Dussehra, a widely celebrated festival across India, represents the triumph of good over evil. According to Hindu devotional belief, this day commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over the demon king Ravana of Lanka, a story central to the epic Ramayana. This tale has been brought to life numerous times on screen, with many actors becoming legendary for their portrayals of both Lord Rama and Ravana. However, there is only one actor who has portrayed both these iconic characters, and in such an unforgettable way that temples were built in his honor.

The Only Actor to Play Both Lord Rama and Ravana

For today’s younger generation, the name “NTR” may refer to Jr. NTR, but for true Telugu cinema enthusiasts, the initials will always signify the original NT Rama Rao, a colossal figure in Indian cinema. Sr. NTR is the only actor who has played both Lord Rama and Ravana on the big screen. Additionally, he portrayed Lord Krishna in a record 17 films. NTR first appeared as Lord Rama in the 1963 film Lava Kusa, a role he continued to portray in subsequent films. However, before this, he had already played Ravana in the 1958 film Bhookailas. Although Bhookailas did not succeed at the box office, NTR’s defining portrayal of Ravana came in the 1961 classic Seetharama Kalyanam. His expertise in mythological dramas made him a revered figure for Telugu audiences throughout the 1960s and 70s. Eventually, he transitioned to playing heroic, Robin Hood-like characters, which bolstered his popularity and helped pave the way for his entry into politics later in life.

Temples Built in NTR’s Honor

By the mid-1960s, NTR had achieved unparalleled stardom in Telugu cinema. Through his portrayals of divine figures such as Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, Lord Shiva, and Lord Vishnu, he was revered almost like a deity. His home in Hyderabad became a pilgrimage site for his fans, who would visit to pay their respects before going to actual temples. During the 1970s, several temples were built in his name across Andhra Pradesh, showcasing him in his Rama and Krishna avatars. However, reports suggest that NTR was not entirely pleased with this practice.

NTR’s Later Years and Enduring Legacy

In 1982, NTR took a step back from acting and founded the Telugu Desam Party. The following year, his party won the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, and NTR became the state’s Chief Minister, a position he held for three terms until 1995. NTR passed away in January 1996 at the age of 72, leaving behind an enduring legacy not only in Indian cinema but also in politics.

His influence extended beyond his own career. NTR was the patriarch of the Nandamuri family, a prominent name in Telugu cinema. His sons Chaitanya Krishna and Saikrishna are producers, while his fifth son, Nandamuri Balakrishna, is one of the most celebrated actors of his time. His fourth son, Harikrishna, was also an actor but passed away at a young age. Jr. NTR, a major star in his own right, is the son of Harikrishna, further cementing NTR’s enduring influence in the industry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and various other leaders, graced the swearing-in ceremony.

The oath-taking ceremony took place around 11:27 am near Gannavaram Airport in Kesarapalli, on the outskirts of Vijayawada. Besides Naidu, Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan, Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh, and 22 others also took their oaths.

Pawan Kalyan is reportedly being considered for the position of deputy chief minister, with Janasena offered three cabinet positions and the Bharatiya Janata Party one.

In the 175-member Andhra Pradesh assembly, the cabinet can accommodate up to 26 ministers, including the chief minister.

In separate gatherings on Tuesday, June 11, the Telugu Desam Legislature Party and NDA allies elected Naidu as their leader.

Naidu emphasized his commitment to developing Amaravati as the sole capital of the state while addressing the legislators. He expressed gratitude for their cooperation and mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attendance at the swearing-in ceremony, stating that he had sought the Union government’s support for Andhra Pradesh’s progress, which was assured.

Several South Indian celebrities, including Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, and actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna, were present at the event held in Gannavaram Mandal, Kesarapalli IT Park.

Naidu initially assumed office as chief minister in 1995 and served two consecutive terms until 2004, during the tenure of united Andhra Pradesh. His third term commenced after the state’s bifurcation.

After winning the 2014 elections, Naidu served as the first chief minister of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh until 2019. He then served as the opposition leader until 2024, following which he secured a resounding victory in the 2024 elections, reclaiming the position of CM for a fourth term, displacing the YSRCP.

The NDA achieved a sweeping victory in the recent simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the state, securing 164 of the 175 assembly seats and 21 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats.

Chandrababu Naidu, positioned as one of the kingmakers following the recent elections, has reiterated that his Telugu Desam Party (TDP) remains a steadfast member of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Amid speculations of opposition attempts to sway him towards the INDIA bloc, Naidu’s assertion comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s anticipated government formation on Saturday.

Participating in a crucial meeting at Prime Minister Modi’s residence, Chandrababu Naidu expressed optimism, describing the discussions as fruitful. Addressing queries about TDP’s alliance status, he emphasized the collective effort in contesting elections, dismissing any doubts about the party’s allegiance to the NDA.

The Lok Sabha elections saw the BJP falling short of a majority, securing 240 seats in the 543-member Parliament. However, with the support of its allies, the NDA surpassed the 272 mark, clinching 293 seats compared to the INDIA bloc’s 234.

Chandrababu Naidu and Janata Dal United leader Nitish Kumar, both seasoned coalition politicians, have emerged as pivotal figures in the current political landscape. Their participation in the NDA meeting signals solidarity with the BJP ahead of Saturday’s oath ceremony.

Reports suggest that Naidu and Kumar have provided written support to PM Modi, amidst speculations of opposition attempts to engage them in forming an alternative government.

In addition to Naidu and Kumar, other NDA partners including Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde, JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy, Janasena’s Pawan Kalyan, LJP’s Chirag Paswan, and NCP’s Praful Patel attended the meeting. They collectively endorsed PM Modi as the leader of the alliance, further solidifying the NDA’s unity.

</excerpt>

Amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, attention is drawn to Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, the Telugu Desam Party’s nominee for the Guntur Lok Sabha constituency in Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Pemmasani’s candidacy is notable not just for his political ambitions but also for his immense wealth, making him the wealthiest candidate in the fourth phase of elections, with assets valued at Rs 5,705 crore.

As per his declaration, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, representing the Telugu Desham Party in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur constituency, possesses movable assets worth Rs 55,98,64,80,786, immovable assets worth Rs 1,06,82,46,752, resulting in a total asset value of 57,05,47,27,538.

Early Life and Background

Dr. Pemmasani’s trajectory is defined by academic prowess and career accomplishments. He attained his MBBS degree from Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences in 1999 and later pursued an MD in internal medicine from the Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania, USA, graduating in 2005. Despite establishing himself abroad, Dr. Pemmasani remains closely connected to his roots in Andhra Pradesh.

Political Foray

Dr. Pemmasani’s foray into politics is not recent, as he has been actively engaged in the Telugu Desam Party’s affairs, notably within the non-resident Indian cell. His choice to run in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections underscores a profound dedication to serving his constituency and enriching the political environment of Andhra Pradesh.

Professional Success

In addition to his medical and political commitments, Dr. Pemmasani is celebrated for his entrepreneurial endeavors. He serves as the founder and CEO of UWorld, an online learning platform that has played a pivotal role in assisting students in their preparation for diverse competitive examinations. Dr. Pemmasani’s business acumen was honored with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2020.

Wealth and Assets

Dr. Pemmasani’s wealth is remarkable, with investments spanning across more than 100 companies and properties in both India and the US. His movable assets comprise two Mercedes cars, one Tesla, and a Rolls Royce.

However, alongside his financial accomplishments, Dr. Pemmasani confronts substantial liabilities totaling Rs 1,038 crore. Furthermore, an ongoing FIR against him for IPC offenses concerning illicit payments linked to an election and bribery casts doubts on his integrity and capacity to fulfill the role of a conscientious political figure.

“Unfortunately, these days, politics has become an expensive process,” he said in an interview with NDTV.

“Not that is that is the change. Actually, we all need to discuss about it, right? Not common people cannot contest in any of these elections,” he added.

Political Contest

Dr. Pemmasani encounters formidable competition in the Guntur Lok Sabha constituency from the YSRCP’s Kilari Venkata Rosaiah, who currently serves as the MLA from Ponnur. In the preceding elections, the TDP’s Galla Jaydev secured a narrow victory over the YSRCP’s M Venugopal Reddy by a margin of 4,205 votes.

Wealthiest Candidate in West Bengal

In West Bengal, the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections features 21 candidates across eight constituencies, each possessing assets exceeding Rs 1 crore. Notably, BJP’s Amitra Roy emerges as the wealthiest contender in Krishnanagar, boasting total assets valued at Rs 554 crore. Following closely behind are TMC’s Asansol candidate Shatrughan Sinha and Baharampur candidate Yusuf Pathan, with assets worth Rs 210 crore and Rs 45 crore respectively.

This transformative list of 118 nominees signifies a paradigm shift in the state’s political landscape, characterized by the infusion of fresh faces, youth candidates, representation from the BC community, and a notable presence of women candidates.

Leading the charge with 94 contenders, the TDP showcases a bold departure from conventional political strategies by entrusting 23 newcomers with the responsibility to contest. Moreover, the dynamic list boasts 28 candidates with post-graduate degrees, 50 candidates with graduate degrees, 3 doctors, 2 Ph.D. holders, and 1 IAS Officer, reflecting a diverse pool of talent poised to serve the people of Andhra Pradesh.

What sets this candidate selection process apart is its unprecedented embrace of crowdsourcing, reflecting the coalition’s commitment to decentralize power and prioritize the aspirations and voices of the people. With input from over 1 crore 3 lakh 33 thousand individuals, this historic initiative marks a turning point in Indian politics, where the electorate plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of governance.

Addressing the press conference at Undavalli, TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu affirmed, “TDP-JSP is ready for the election war. This alliance is not just for the state’s future but also for the brighter future of Andhra Pradesh.” Such resolute determination underscores the coalition’s vision for a progressive and inclusive governance model.

The Jana Sena Party, announcing candidates for 5 seats initially, reinforces the coalition’s commitment to diverse representation. With candidates like Lokam Madhavi, Konathala Ramakrishna, Battula Balaramakrishna, Pantham Nanaji, and Nadendla Manohar, the JSP brings a fresh perspective and renewed vigor to the electoral arena.

Notably, the TDP-JSP alliance’s emphasis on empowering marginalized communities, particularly the Scheduled Castes, has garnered significant acclaim. Senior TDP leader Varla Ramaiah commended TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu for allocating a substantial share of seats to SC candidates, highlighting Chandrababu Naidu’s consistent efforts to empower the community.

In contrast, the incumbent ruling YSRCP’s inability to finalize candidates even after multiple phases reflects a sense of unease within the party. TDP national spokesperson Kommareddy Pattabhi Ram attributed this uncertainty to the YSRCP’s reliance on vested interests, contrasting it with the TDP-JSP coalition’s focus on candidates with diverse educational backgrounds and a commitment to societal upliftment.

Echoing this sentiment, TDP national spokesperson Prof. Jyothsna Tirunagari emphasized the inclusivity and competence of the TDP-JSP alliance, noting that the diverse candidate list underscores their readiness to challenge the status quo and emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.

As the political landscape of Andhra Pradesh undergoes a seismic shift, the TDP-JSP coalition stands poised to usher in a new era of governance characterized by inclusivity, innovation, and people-centric policies. With a revolutionary candidate list and a resolute determination to champion the aspirations of the masses, the coalition embarks on a transformative journey towards a brighter future for Andhra Pradesh.

</excerpt>

As the political landscape in Andhra Pradesh continues to evolve, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janasena have made a significant announcement that is poised to shake the foundations of the state’s governance.

With the unveiling of an enthralling teaser for their joint political meeting on February 28th in Tadepalligudem, the two parties have signaled their intent to challenge what they perceive as undemocratic rule under the YCP government.

This gathering is being touted as one of its kind, promising to be a watershed moment in the state’s political history. The sentiment echoed by Deepak Reddy, National Spokesperson for TDP in Andhra Pradesh, encapsulates the collective frustration of the people who have endured what they consider to be tyranny under the current administration.

Reddy’s assertion that the people of Andhra Pradesh will unite against what they see as anarchic rule underscores the gravity of the situation. The upcoming event is not merely a political rally but a statement of defiance against perceived injustices and a call for accountability.

The release of the teaser on social media platforms has ignited anticipation and fervor among the populace. The video’s message, calling for the ousting of the YCP government and the restoration of democracy, resonates with many who feel marginalized by the current regime.

With the promise of a massive public meeting in Tadepalligudem, both TDP and Janasena aim to galvanize support and mobilize the masses in a show of strength against what they perceive as a dictatorship stifling democracy.

The announcement by TDP AP State President Kinjarapu Atchannaidu further solidifies the commitment of both parties to this joint endeavor. Atchannaidu’s revelation of a meticulously planned event, overseen by a committee comprising equal representation from TDP and Janasena, underscores the strategic collaboration between the two entities.

With preparations underway, the stage is set for a spectacle that Andhra Pradesh has never witnessed before, promising to be a pivotal moment in the state’s political landscape. As February 28th approaches, all eyes are on Tadepalligudem, where history is set to unfold.

The joint public meeting represents not only a convergence of political forces but also a beacon of hope for those yearning for change. In the face of adversity, TDP and Janasena stand united, ready to confront the challenges ahead and usher in a new era of governance in Andhra Pradesh.

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu made a dramatic visit to Amravati’s cyclone-ravaged areas, unleashing scathing criticism on the state government for allegedly failing to provide adequate assistance to farmers.

Naidu, known for his fiery rhetoric, declared that “90 per cent of crops have been submerged in floodwater.” The state government failed to protect the crops and even failed to provide adequate assistance to farmers.” The TDP president accused the government of failing to build proper drainage systems, which resulted in persistent waterlogging in paddy fields even after Cyclone Michaung made landfall.

In a bold warning, Naidu compared the fate of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government to that of the recently defeated KCR government in neighbouring Telangana, predicting dire consequences in the upcoming days. “We have seen the Telangana poll result, and in the upcoming days, Andhra Pradesh will also face the consequences,” he asserted.

As part of his visit, Naidu plans to inspect the devastated crop fields in Parchur and Prattipadu constituencies on Saturday. Cyclone Michaung, which made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast earlier this week, brought intense rain and wind speeds of up to 100 mph, causing widespread devastation and affecting over two crore people. The cyclone has claimed over a dozen lives, with thousands of homes and vehicles submerged.

The TDP president’s fiery remarks amplify the challenges faced by the state government in the aftermath of the cyclone, turning the spotlight on the urgency for effective relief measures and agricultural rehabilitation. The political fallout of this crisis remains uncertain, but Naidu’s confrontational approach signals a brewing storm on the political horizon.

The Andra Pradesh Government on Saturday appointed a judicial committee to find the reasons behind the Kandukuru and Gunturu stampede that took place at separate public meetings of Leader of Opposition (LOP) in the state assembly N Chandrababu Naidu.

The state government appointed retired Andhra Pradesh High Court judge Justice B. Seshasayana Reddy as the Commission of Inquiry to inquire into the stampede that killed as many as eight workers of Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

N Chandrababu Naidu, the president of the Telugu Desam Party and a former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, has declared that if his party is not elected to power in the 2024 elections, he will step down. At a roadshow in this district late on Wednesday night, Naidu recalled his promise to hold off on entering the Assembly until the TDP regained power. He spoke in an emotional tone.

“If I have to go (back) to the Assembly, if I have to stay in politics and if justice is to be done to Andhra Pradesh…unless you ensure our victory in the next election…that could well be my last election,” Naidu said. “Will you bless me? Do you trust me,” he asked the people, who responded rapturously.

The 175-member AP Assembly is made up of 23 MLAs for the TDP.

The Leader of Opposition had pledged on November 19, 2021 to enter the Andhra Pradesh Assembly once more only after regaining power. He did this after alleging that the ruling YSR Congress had insulted his wife on the floor of the House. At the roadshow, Naidu reminded attendees of his vow, saying that if he were not re-elected, the following elections would be his last.

“I will only set things right and put the state back on the track of progress and hand over the future to others,” he added. This should become a point of debate in each household. “My fight is for the future of children, future of the state. It’s not a tall talk. I had done it before and there is a model (to prove it),” the TDP chief noted. “Think about it. Weigh the pros and cons. If what I am saying is right, cooperate with me,” he urged the people. Naidu observed that he was “physically very fit.”

“Some people are mocking at my age. I and (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi are of the same age. (Biden) became American President at the age of 79,” the 72-year old TDP leader said.

“I will develop (the state) and create wealth. That will increase the revenue and with that we will implement the welfare schemes. In fact, we will do better but, unlike (Chief Minister) Jagan Mohan Reddy, we will not borrow heavily for that,” the former Chief Minister said.

He emphasised how the governing system had forced the nation into a debt trap by making arbitrary borrowing decisions. Naidu continued, “They even mortgaged the state’s assets to raise loans significantly.”
