Sharing a message on X (formerly Twitter), Tej Pratap wrote, “By the infinite grace and blessings of Shri Banke Bihari Ji, I have been blessed with the joy of becoming a Bade Papa (paternal uncle) upon the arrival of a newborn (a baby boy) in our family.”

Bihar Lightning Strikes Claim 25 Lives; Delhi Braces for Thunderstorms

In a welcome break from the heatwave that struck Delhi a few days back, the national capital’s sky became cloudy on Thursday with light drizzle in certain areas of the city. While the weather became erratic in many areas of Bihar on Thursday, which resulted in as many as 25 deaths statewide because of lightning and hail storms, PTI reported.

In Delhi’s Safdarjung weather observatory recorded a high of 39.6 degrees Celsius, 4.5 notches above normal.

The lowest temperature in the national capital on Thursday was 25.9 degrees Celsius, six notches above normal. It is also the highest night temperature of April in the past six months, as per the IMD.

Thunderstorm Likely on Friday, Saturday in Delhi

After Thursday, the IMD has forecasted the same kind of weather for Delhi on Friday and Saturday. The national capital is expected to have a cloudy sky, accompanied by thunderstorms and light drizzle on April 11 and 12, as per the weather department.

For Friday, the weather may result in trees or branches falling, causing small traffic disturbances. Drivers are asked to exercise caution on the roads. The weather may also cause interruption in electricity supply in Delhi NCR.

Individuals are warned to avoid traffic congestion on their way before they set off and keep a distance from power lines or electric wires. They are also warned to avoid water bodies and all objects that carry electricity.

April 13 will have cloudy sky with the possibility of a light rain but without any thunderstorm, after which two clear sky days on April 14 and 15.

Weather conditions can take a turn from April 16 since the IMD has forecasted gusty surface winds during daytime for two days in Delhi.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of more than 50 people in various incidents of storm, rain, lightning, tree and wall collapse in Bihar. I express my deepest condolences. May God provide strength to the families affected by the disaster in this hour of grief,” he said in the post.

The Thursday tragedy followed 13 fatalities in the state on Wednesday because of lightning strikes.

The weather office has forecast heavy showers in some Bihar districts on Saturday and Friday. The districts are – Madhubani, Darbhanga, East Champaran, Gopalganj, West Champaran, Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Gaya, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Nalanda, Nawada, Patna.

Bihar BJP Chief Dilip Jaiswal Slams Tejashwi Yadav Over Reservation with ‘Cannibal’ Remark

Bihar Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Dilip Jaiswal launched a sharp critique of Tejashwi Yadav and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), questioning their stance on reservations.

Speaking to ANI, Jaiswal challenged the RJD’s track record, asking, “Did anyone get reservation during their (RJD’s) tenure?… They did not give reservations; on the other hand, when Nitish Kumar made reservation provisions, he (Tejashwi Yadav) opposed it?”

Further attacking Yadav, Jaiswal accused him of hypocrisy and remarked, “Who can be a bigger ‘cannibal’ than a leader who has been convicted in the fodder scam?” His remarks were intended to highlight what he perceives as the RJD’s failure to support reservation policies while criticizing Yadav’s role in Bihar’s political scenario.

In response, Tejashwi Yadav accused the BJP of undermining reservations in Bihar. In a post on X, he alleged that the 65% reservation provided by the previous government, in which the RJD was a part, was not included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution by the BJP-led central government.

Yadav stated, “Just like there is a cannibal, similarly BJP is a reservation eater and a reservation thief. In a short tenure of 17 months the 65% reservation increased by us for Dalits-Adivasis and backward-most backward classes after caste census was not included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution by the BJP-NDA Central Government and got it entangled in a case.”

He further claimed, “Due to non-implementation of 65% reservation in more than 350000 jobs under process in Bihar, the candidates from SC/ST, OBC and most backward classes are suffering the direct loss of 16 % reservation, due to which more than 50000 youth from these classes have lost their jobs. Everyone has to unite and teach a lesson to the reservation thieves BJP-NDA.”

The RJD also criticized the central government for allegedly neglecting Bihar by denying it special state status. It accused the BJP-led government of failing to address key issues such as employment, healthcare, industrial development, migration, and disaster management.

The party stated in a post on X, “Bihar, which needed the most financial help and special state status, was once again ignored by the BJP-NDA government in the Union Budget. No special state status, no discussion on employment, no expenditure on improving health facilities, no arrangement for factories and industries, no detailed plan to stop migration, no trains and no major investment projects and no special financial assistance for permanent solutions to disasters like floods and droughts. Will the BJP and its allies continue to ignore the voice of Bihar? The NDA government of 20 years in the state and 11 years in the Centre will have to answer. Courts grants bail to RJD’s Lalu Prasad, sons in land-for-jobs case

The Rouse Avenue Court on Monday granted bail to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and eight other accused, including his sons Tej Pratap and Tejashwi Yadav, in connection with the land-for-job scam. The court noted that all nine individuals were chargesheeted without being arrested.

Bail Granted on Personal Bond

Special Judge Vishal Gogne provided bail to the accused, requiring each to submit a personal bond of Rs one lakh. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for October 25.

Summons Issued

The accused appeared in court in response to earlier summons issued by the judge. These summons were based on the court’s cognisance of a supplementary chargesheet filed against them.

Case Background

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had filed the final report before the court on August 6, following an investigation initiated from a CBI FIR. The case revolves around Group-D appointments in the West Central Zone of the railways, based in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as railway minister from 2004 to 2009. It is alleged that individuals were given jobs in exchange for land parcels that were gifted or transferred to Lalu Yadav’s family or associates.

NEET UG 2024 Controversy: Bihar Deputy CM Alleges Tejashwi Yadav’s Aide Connected To Leak Scandal

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha alleged on Thursday that an aide of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav was connected to the alleged paper leaks and malpractices in the NEET-UG 2024 examination. Sinha claimed that Tejashwi Yadav’s aide, Preetam Kumar, had called an employee of the Bihar Road Construction Department (RCD) to arrange a room for Sikandar Prasad Yadavendu, an engineer who had previously disclosed the alleged involvement of a ‘Mantri Ji’ in the exam row.

According to Sinha, Sikandar Prasad Yadavendu had recommended accommodation for his nephew Anurag Yadav, a NEET aspirant, his mother, and others at a government bungalow in Patna. Anurag Yadav is currently in custody in connection with the exam irregularities.

Sinha stated that he conducted a departmental inquiry and discovered that Preetam Kumar had called RCD staffer Pradeep to book a room at the guest house of Bihar NHAI on May 1, four days before the examination.

“I demand a high-level inquiry into this matter. They are out of power, but want to play with the future of lakhs of candidates,” Sinha said.

He added that he had suspended three RCD employees, including Pradeep, regarding the room booking.

However, the Bihar NHAI denied the reports of the accused staying at their guest house, stating that they “do not have any guest house facility in Patna.”

“Some sections of the press have reported that the accused related to the NEET paper leak case stayed at NHAI guest house in Patna. NHAI would like to clarify that NHAI does not have any guest house facility in Patna,” the statement read.

In his confession letter, Sikandar Prasad Yadavendu mentioned that his nephew informed him about achieving the desired results “as promised earlier.” He also stated that he was in contact with a racket that specialized in leaking question papers for NEET, UPSC, and other exams.

Yadavendu admitted to making logistical arrangements for other candidates, including Ayush Raj, Shivanandan Kumar, Abhishek Kumar, Anurag Yadav, and Anurag’s mother Reena.

Anurag Yadav also confessed in his letter that the leaked question paper provided to him matched the actual exam question paper.

While the incumbent BJP-led NDA maintained its supremacy in Bihar in the Lok Sabha polls by winning 30 seats out of 40, compared to the INDIA bloc’s 9 seats, it was beaten by the Opposition alliance in Uttar Pradesh, the most crucial heartland state.

Here’s what Akhilesh Yadav did:

Confident in retaining its core Muslim-Yadav (M-Y) vote base and aiming to gain support from non-Yadav OBCs, who had largely favored the BJP, the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) nominated only five candidates from the Yadav community, all from the family of party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav. In the 2019 elections, the SP had fielded 10 Yadav candidates out of 37. This time, the SP also nominated just four Muslim candidates. Yadav introduced a new slogan to broaden his support base from “M-Y” (Muslim-Yadav) to “PDA,” which stands for Pichde (backward classes or OBCs), Dalits, and Alpasankhyak (minorities).

As a result, the lion’s share of SP tickets went to non-Yadav OBCs – 27 candidates – Dalits – 15 candidates in Scheduled Caste (SC)-reserved seats and one in a general constituency – and 11 upper-caste candidates (including four Brahmins, two Thakurs, two Vaishyas, and one Khatri).

While Tejashwi Yadav also tried to extend his party’s support beyond M-Y votes, he clearly could not succeed, as evidenced by the poll results. The RJD and the Congress in Bihar contested 23 and nine seats respectively. While the RJD won four seats, the Congress got three seats, and two seats were bagged by the CPI(ML)L.

Drawing a comparison between Akhilesh and Tejashwi, poll analyst Sheetal P Singh said, “While Akhilesh gave tickets to more non-Yadav and non-Muslim candidates, giving various caste groups good representation, Tejashwi gave tickets to a good number of Kushwahas (non-Yadav OBCs). In comparison, Akhilesh also gave tickets to Kurmi, Nishad, and some EBC (Extremely Backward Classes) faces. Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav arrived in the national capital on Wednesday for the INDIA bloc meeting, urging people to “wait and watch” amidst rising speculations about the formation of the next government. Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has unveiled the ‘Parivartan Patra’ manifesto ahead of the imminent Lok Sabha elections, affirming the party’s commitment to fulfilling the 24 promises delineated in the manifesto. Emphasizing the manifesto’s focus on critical developmental issues and the welfare of Bihar’s populace, Yadav remarked, “Today morning we released the ‘Parivartan Patra.’ We are bringing forward 24 promises in 2024, which are our commitment and our pledge that will be fulfilled responsibly. It has a lot of important issues regarding the development of Bihar and the welfare of its people.”

BJP leader Giriraj Singh criticized Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav following the latter’s social media post of a video showing him consuming fish. The video, which surfaced on social media on the first day of Navratri and depicted Tejashwi Yadav eating fish, prompted Union Minister Giriraj Singh to accuse him of engaging in “politics of appeasement.”

“Tejashwi Yadav is a ‘Seasonal Sanatani’, many people, be it Rohingyas or Bangladeshi infiltrators came here when his father (Lalu Yadav) was in power. They do politics of appeasement wearing the mask of Sanatan,” Singh stated on Wednesday.
In a video uploaded on X on Tuesday, Tejashwi Yadav is shown consuming fish alongside Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) leader Mukesh Sahni in a helicopter, mentioning that he only has 10-15 minutes to eat amidst campaigning.

In the video, Tejashwi mentioned that because of the heat, he has buttermilk, Bel juice, sattu, and watermelon juice on hand. The caption accompanying his video read, “Food in helicopter amidst the hustle and bustle of election! Date- 08/04/2024.”

Labeling RJD as a “private limited company”, Giriraj Singh stated, “It is their company and to whom they want to give the shares become shareholders. In Bihar, be it infiltrators or Rohingyas, a large number of them have their names on the voter list. I demand a mechanism that denies them the voting rights.”

However, Tejashwi Yadav mocked the BJP, stating that the video post was intended as a test for the ruling party, which they ‘failed’. He pointed out that the video in question was dated April 8, a day before Navratri began.

Tejashwi Yadav, former Bihar Deputy CM and RJD leader, voiced criticism against the BJP-led central government during the INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday. He condemned the government’s utilization of central agencies against the opposition, asserting that the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation, and Income Tax are essentially extensions of the BJP.

“The ED, CBI and IT are the cells of the BJP. Lalu Ji has been harassed a lot of times. There have been cases against me. My mother, my sisters, my brother-in-law, all the relatives of my father, there were cases against everyone. Many of our leaders are being raided currently. ED, IT raids are underway. But we are not going to be scared. We will struggle. Only lions are caged. All of us are lions. We are fighting for you,” the RJD leader said at the Maha Rally.

Opposition leaders united at the capital’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday to demonstrate solidarity and protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy case.

TMC MP Derek O’Brien criticized the central government, stating that this battle represents “BJP versus democracy.”

“All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) is very much, was and will be a part of the INDIA allaince. This is the fight of BJP versus democracy. This fight is for Modi ki guarantee which has zero warranty. Land-for-job case: Regular bail is granted to Lalu, Tejashwi, and Rabri Yadav

On Wednesday, the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to several individuals in connection with a new chargesheet in the alleged land-for-jobs scam case, including former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Rabri Devi, and others. While granting bail, Special Judge Geetanjali Goel noted that the CBI had not made any arrests of the accused and had not even objected to their request for bail. The Court also ordered the CBI to serve copies of the updated chargesheet to each and every defendant in the case in the interim.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had earlier filed a chargesheet, and the court had taken notice of it and summoned each defendant. The CBI claims that in a case involving the “Land for Job Scam,” this is the second chargesheet filed in the Designated Court against 17 accused, including the former Union Minister of Railways, his wife, son, the GM of West Central Railways (WCR), two CPOs of WCR, as well as private individuals and a private company.

Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar, and others are named in the chargesheet that the CBI recently filed in the Land for Job alleged scam case against former Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. On May 18, 2022, the CBI filed a case against the then-Union Minister of Railways and several other individuals, including his wife, two daughters, and unidentified public employees and private individuals.

Land for Job Scam: Lalu Yadav and Tejashwi are summoned by the Delhi Court

Lalu Prasad Yadav, the former minister of railways, Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar, and other suspects were served summonses by the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on Friday in connection with a new chargesheet in the alleged Land for Job Scam case. A new chargesheet submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was taken into consideration by the Special Judge Geetanjali Goel, who then summoned each and every defendant.

The CBI claims that in a case involving the “Land for Job Scam,” this is the second chargesheet filed in the designated court against 17 accused, including the former Union Minister of Railways, his wife, son, the former general manager of West Central Railways (WCR), the former two chief operating officers of WCR, as well as private individuals and a private company. In the alleged Land for Job scam case, the CBI has recently filed a chargesheet against Lalu Prasad Yadav, his son Tejashwi Yadav, and others.

CBI had registered a case on May 18, 2022, against Lalu Yadav and others including his wife, two daughters, unknown Public servants and private persons.
It was alleged that the then Union Minister of Railways during the period 2004-2009 had obtained pecuniary advantages in the form of transfer of landed property in the name of his family members etc. in lieu of appointment of Substitutes in Group “D” Post in different Zones of Railways.

Tejashwi Yadav ahead of Mumbai meeting : ‘INDIA’ bloc came together to fight “communal forces”

Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, a member of the grand opposition alliance and the deputy chief minister of Bihar, stated this ahead of the third strategy meeting of the “INDIA” alliance in Mumbai that they joined forces to “fight communal forces in the country.”

Tejashwi Yadav said, “We (Opposition parties) have come together to fight against communal forces. We united to fight those forces who are putting threat to constitution and democracy.”

RJD leader Manoj Jha terms CBI chargesheet against Tejashwi, Rabri and Lalu “political vendetta”

A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a supplementary chargesheet in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam, naming Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as an accused for the first time, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Manoj Jha called the action a “political vendetta.” In a major setback for the RJD, the CBI on monday filed the chargesheet against RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, his parents and former chief ministers Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi along with others in the land-for-jobs scam. “Such actions are taken because the BJP lost its government in Bihar. It is a political vendetta. Such actions by the central agencies … BJP is trying to do something which it cannot achieve,” Manoj Jha said.
“This is no more CBI. It is being directed by the two top leaders of BJP who run the Union government,” the Rajya Sabha MP further alleged.
Speaking on the same issue, senior JD(U) leader KC Tyagi alleged that the CBI’s move has come keeping in mind the unity of opposition parties.
“The timing (to file chargesheet) has been decided keeping in mind the unity of opposition parties. These investigative agencies were never misused like this earlier,” Tyagi said.
According to the CBI, irregular appointments of candidates were made in Central Railway, violating the laid down norms and procedures of Indian Railways for recruitment.
On March 15, the Court granted regular bail to ex-Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, ex-Bihar CM Rabri Devi, their daughter-RJD MP Misa Bharti and other accused in the land for jobs scam case.
According to the CBI, as a quid-pro-quo, the candidates directly or through their immediate relatives or family members sold land to the family members of Lalu Prasad Yadav (then Union Railway Minister) at highly discounted rates up to 1/4th to 1/5th of the prevailing market rates.
CBI further stated that investigation has revealed that Lalu Prasad Yadav during the period 2007-08 when he was Union Minister of Railways with the intent to acquire the land parcels situated in Patna villages- Mahuabagh and Kunjwa, wich were situated adjacent to the land parcels already owned by his family members; entered into a criminal conspiracy with his wife Rabri Devi, daughter Misha Bharati, Officers of Central Railways namely Sowmya Raghvan the then General Manager, Kamal Deep Mainrai, the then Chief Personnel Officer, and residents of Patna villages Mahjabagh, Bindaul and Bihta, and Patna City namely Raj Kumar Singh, Mithlesh Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Dharmendra Kumar, Vikas Kumar, Abhishek Kumar, Ravindra Ray, Kiran Devi, Akhileshwar Singh, Ramashish Singh. According to the CBI, all candidates who were hired as substitutes were later regularised.
In lieu of appointing them to the Railways, Lalu Prasad Yadav transferred the lands owned by the candidates and their family members into the names of his wife Rabri Devi and Misha Bharti for a much lower price than the prevailing circle rates and market rates.

Land-for-job scam: CBI files chargesheet against Tejashwi Yadav, others

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet in a land-for-job scam case at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday.

Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, and several others, including companies, were named as defendants in the chargesheet. The chargesheet was submitted to Special Judge Geetanjali Goel.

According to CBI counsel in Court, it is filed against former Union Minister of Railways Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Chief Minister of Bihar Rabri Devi, and Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, among others, in the case relating to the land-for-job scam.

The CBI, through Special Public Prosecutor Advocate DP Singh, informed the Court that a new chargesheet has been filed in the matter, despite the fact that a chargesheet had previously been filed, because the claimed act was done.

Bihar govt slaps show cause notice on construction firm over bridge collapse

The Bihar Government on Tuesday slapped a show cause notice on construction firm SP Singla Company, after the collapse of the Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge in Bhagalpur on Sunday evening.

“A show cause notice is being issued to the construction company, and action will be taken against the contractors and engineers involved in the project, who have already been removed. The bridge will be constructed in a time-bound manner as it is a dream project of CM,” said Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav. The bridge was constructed to link Bhagalpur and Khagaria districts over the Ganges. It was worth over Rs 1,770 crore and was initially slated for completion by 2019. The foundation stone of the structure was laid in February 2014, by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“When I was in Opposition, I had raised the issue regarding Pier Five of the bridge and at that time, the Minister handed over the investigation to IIT Roorkee and later on the basis of reports from IIT a decision to demolish the pier was taken,” the Deputy CM further said.

Meanwhile, state Minister and elder brother of the Deputy CM, Tej Pratap Yadav, accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of demolishing the bridge.

“BJP has demolished the bridge. We are building the bridge and they are demolishing it,” Tej Pratap told reporters on Monday. On the other hand, a PIL has been filed in the Patna High Court seeking an independent inquiry into the collapse of the Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge that occurred on Sunday.

The writ petition sought an independent probe instead of a departmental inquiry and action against the SP Singla Company, which was involved in the construction of the bridge.

The PIL also sought the recovery of losses worth thousands of crores to the exchequer due to the collapse. Additional Chief Secretary for Bihar Road Construction Department Pratyaya Amrit said on Tuesday, “We will try to complete the investigation at the earliest. We have served a show-cause notice to SP Singla and Company as to why they should not be blacklisted. They have been given a 15-day period to reply. For serious dereliction of duty, the Executive Engineer of Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam posted at Khagaria has been put under suspension and departmental proceedings have started. The Managing Director of Bihar Bridge Construction Corporation has also been given a show cause regarding the delay when the instructions were very clear to demolish Pier Five completely. A new bridge will be constructed. We will try to prioritise it so that the work on this can start after the monsoon.”

‘Afraid of Bihar after Karnataka’: Tejashwi Yadav speaks on Rabri’s quizzing

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Friday looked dejected due to his mother Rabri Devi’s quizzing by the ED in the land-for-job case. He considered it a political vendetta.

“We knew this would happen. The government agencies have been targeting the Opposition because they fear after facing the debacle in the recently concluded Karnataka assembly polls. They may also drag me into the case in the future. However, the innocent people don’t have to fear,” he said.

The ED questioned Rabri Devi for about five hours in the national capital on Thursday in a money laundering case associated with the land-for-jobs scam.

Apart from Rabri, some of her children, including Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav, Misa Bharti, and several other leaders, were questioned by the agency over the last few months.

As per the probe agencies, between 2004 and 2009, many people got jobs in various zones of the Indian Railways, and in return, they had to transfer their land to Yadav’s family members.

The CBI has made it clear in its complaint that no advertisement was issued in any place for the appointment of such jobs, but several people from Patna got appointment letters in different railway zones such as Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur, and Hajipur.

Nitish Kumar has been meeting with leaders of various opposition parties in an effort to form a broad Opposition alliance against the BJP at the Centre ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year.

On 18 May, Nitish Kumar plans a large meeting of all Opposition Leaders in Delhi.
Nitish Kumar met with his Jharkhand counterpart, Hemant Soren, in Ranchi earlier today. Following the meeting, both held a joint press conference at the residence of Jharkhand’s Chief Minister.

Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar told a press conference that he had discussions with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren about a variety of issues.

Tejashwi Yadav welcomes his first child

Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar, and his wife, Rajshri Yadav, welcomed a baby girl on Monday.

Tejashwi Yadav tweeted, “God has been delighted and provided a gift in the form of a daughter.”

Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), congratulated the family.

He wrote on Twitter, “Congratulations to you and your entire family, Tejashwi ji, on receiving Mata Rani’s blessing on Navratri. Many blessings and love to Rani, and may God continue to bless your family.”

Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav said ‘Won’t tolerate alleged attacks on migrants’.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday said that both Bihar and Tamil Nadu governments will not tolerate alleged ‘attacks’ on migrants labourers and urged the Centre to take steps to resolve the matter.
“The Bihar government is serious in this matter. Hence, a team has been sent to Tamil Nadu. Both Bihar and Tamil Nadu governments will not tolerate this,” said Yadav while speaking to media persons. The Deputy Chief Minister further said that the Bihar government has sent a team to find the truth.
“A newspaper has reported that the Bihar BJP chief called the Tamil Nadu BJP chief who told him that no such incident has taken place in Tamil Nadu. Our government has sent a team to find the truth. Some districts in TN have issued helpline numbers for migrant workers,” he said on migrant workers issue.
“Can you see any concern from the Government of India in this matter? GoI should take steps to resolve this matter between the two states,” Yadav added.
Meanwhile,over the issue of alleged attacks on migrants the Police and Tiruppur administration of Tamil Nadu conducted a meeting with representatives of business and industry associations.

KM Subramanian, Tiruppur Exporters’ Association said that there are good relations between local and migrant labourers.

“Today, we have a meeting with a high-level committee on the migrant labourers’ issue. Fake news is being spread on social media by some people. There are good relations between local & migrant labourers,” said Subramanian.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Balamurugan, IAS, Secretary, Rural Development Department, Bihar, said “We are talking to migrant workers, and also in touch with labour contractors here. You should not pay heed to rumours and fake videos. TN & Bihar governments taking all efforts for the safety of migrant workers here,”.

Bihar Association in Tamil Nadu also held a meeting with migrant workers who are working in Chennai, amid rumours of alleged attacks.

“I am living safely here. Videos circulating on social media are fake. My family back home has been concerned about my safety ever since the news started circulating but I have reassured them about my safety,” said Santosh Kumar, a migrant worker from Bihar in Chennai.
A day after Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party chief K Annamalai held the ruling DMK party responsible for the ongoing stir over alleged attacks on migrant labourers in the state, the police have booked him on charges of inciting violence and promoting enmity between groups.

The Cyber Crime Division have booked the BJP state unit chief under sections of inciting violence and promoting enmity between groups among others.
As per officials, a case is also registered against the BJP Bihar Twitter account holder over the incident.

Annamalai yesterday released a statement on the migrant labourers’ issue saying they are safe in Tamil Nadu but the Chief Minister Stalin led-Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and its alliance party leaders are the reason for the hate against them.
He also opposed the spread of false news on the attack on the people from Bihar in the state, saying that Tamils don’t support “separatism” and “vile hatred” against north Indians.

Besides, Annamalai , the Prashant Umrao, an Editor with Dainik Bhaskar, a Patna-based journalist, owner of ‘Tanvir Post’ Twitter handle Mohammad Tanvir, and Shubam Shukla were booked at different police stations on the charges of spreading “false” news regarding attacks on migrant labourers in Tamil Nadu.

A statewide panic was created among migrant workers, working in Tamil Nadu, after several purported videos, showing attacks on migrant workers, circulated on social media.
The panic was triggered after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday, raised concerns and took note of the purported videos of “attacks”.
The panic affected the industries in Tamil Nadu, which rely on migrant workers, badly as many workers stayed off work.

Taking cognizance of the panic, Tamil Nadu’s Director General of Police Sylendra Babu released a statement, saying that the video doing rounds of social media was “false” and “mischievous”.

“Somebody in Bihar posted false and mischievous videos saying that migrant workers were attacked in Tamil Nadu. Two videos were posted. Both are false as these incidents happened at an earlier date in Tiruppur and Coimbatore. One was a clash between two groups of migrant workers from Bihar while another was from a clash between two local residents in Coimbatore, the culprit of spreading fake news won’t be spared” the top cop said.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav departs for Delhi and will attend Sharad Yadav’s funeral. Earlier on Thursday Sharad Yadav passed away in the Fortis Hospital, Gurugram at the age of 75.
