Dakota Johnson recently voiced her frustration over the state of the film industry. She said it’s currently “a bit of a mess.” The actor, known for her role in Fifty Shades of Grey, is promoting her new film Materialists. It co-stars Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans and is directed by Celine Song.

Johnson was asked why Hollywood seems afraid to take creative risks these days. “I think it’s hard when creative decisions are made by committee and it’s hard when creative decisions are made by people who don’t even really watch movies or know anything about them, and that tends to be what’s occurring a lot,” the 35-year-old actor said.

She criticized the industry’s repetitive nature and lack of originality, noting that while studios are focused on remaking past successes, audiences are actually craving something new.

“When something does well, studios want to keep that going so they remake the same things, but humans don’t want that. They want fresh, they want to feel new things, experience new things, see new things, so I don’t know, I guess it’s all just a bit of a mess right now, isn’t it,” Johnson added.

Studios Prioritize Franchises

Johnson’s comments perfectly summarise Hollywood today. It has become a place where studios and streaming services prefer to invest in established franchises over original content. The industry is constantly revisiting successful titles like Harry Potter and Twilight for remakes or spin-offs.

Franchise expansions have been widespread—House of the Dragon continues the Game of Thrones legacy. Also, shows like Young Sheldon build off popular series such as The Big Bang Theory. Studios see remakes as “safe bets” because of built-in fan bases.

A tourist visiting Verona’s Maffei Palace in Italy caused serious damage to a unique crystal-studded art chair named after Vincent van Gogh. The piece, created by Italian artist Nicola Bolla, was covered in hundreds of Swarovski crystals and displayed prominently in the historic gallery.

Security Footage Captures

The incident unfolded when the tourist, accompanied by a woman, attempted to pose for photos near the fragile chair. At first, he only pretended to sit, but later decided to sit on it fully. As soon as he did, the delicate structure collapsed beneath him. Security footage captured the man losing balance and trying to grab the wall to avoid falling, while the woman rushed to help him up.

Instead of alerting staff, the couple quietly left the room without informing the museum. The gallery later shared the footage online to raise awareness and express their frustration over the careless act.

“Every museum’s nightmare has become reality, even in Palazzo Maffei,” the museum posted on Instagram, adding,
“An irresponsible gesture caused serious damage to Nicola Bolla’s ‘Van Gogh’ chair, a very delicate work, covered entirely with hundreds of Swarovski crystals.”

The museum said it wasn’t just reporting the event, but wanted to start a campaign about respecting art.

“We are sharing this episode not only for the sake of reporting, but to start a real campaign to raise awareness about the value of art and the respect it deserves.”

Social Media Backlash

As the video went viral, social media users didn’t hold back their criticism.

“They even got away. There are no words,” wrote one user.
Another added: “So much ignorance, this is unacceptable! Foolish people.”
A third commented: “Unfortunately, too many people enter museums just for a shot to post on social media and not because they have a real interest in art, which explains the ignorance and total lack of respect for places and works.”

Thankfully, the museum was able to restore the damaged chair.

“For days, we didn’t know if it would be possible to restore it. But we did it. A heartfelt thank you goes to the police, our security department, and the restorers whose valuable work enabled the recovery of the piece,” the museum stated.

It remains unclear whether the couple will be held accountable for the damage or what the restoration cost was.

Assam CM Orders Shoot-at-Sight, Blames Beef Mafia

Tensions have flared in Assam’s Dhubri town after repeated incidents involving cattle heads being placed near a Hanuman temple just after Eid al-Adha. In response, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced night-time shoot-at-sight orders to control the situation, calling it a strong message against communal provocation.

The first incident happened on June 7, a day after Bakrid, when a cow’s head was discovered near the temple. A second head was found the very next day. Despite initial appeals for peace from both Hindu and Muslim communities, unrest escalated after reports of stone-pelting at night.

Assam CM Orders Shoot-at-Sight

“This incident should never have happened. We are adopting a zero-tolerance policy against those who desecrate temples and sacred spaces,” said CM Sarma during his visit to Dhubri, Assam.

Security personnel, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have since been deployed. Although prohibitory orders were imposed and later withdrawn, the district remains tense.

CM Blames ‘Beef Mafia’

CM Sarma blamed a “communal group” for attempting to incite violence and disturb social harmony. He also accused a newly emerged “beef mafia” of bringing thousands of cattle from West Bengal to Dhubri before Eid, calling it part of a larger criminal network. A full investigation has been ordered.

He raised alarm over posters reportedly put up by a group called ‘Nabin Bangla,’ which allegedly promoted the idea of merging Dhubri with Bangladesh. Sarma claimed that extremist elements were using such tactics both online and offline to spark unrest.

“I have issued shoot-at-sight orders at night. If someone throws stones and the police have doubts about their intentions, they will shoot,” said Sarma. He also promised to personally oversee security in Dhubri during future Eid celebrations if needed.

“We cannot allow a section of the community to create such disturbances. Our government will not tolerate this and allow Dhubri to go out of our hands,” he added.

Stanko was convicted of killing a friend in Horry County in 2005 and then stealing money from his bank account. Earlier that same day, he had strangled his live-in girlfriend in Georgetown County while raping her teenage daughter. He also slit the girl’s throat, but she managed to survive.

His execution began after a 3½-minute final statement in which he addressed the families of his victims. “I would like to apologise to the people who were hurt by my actions,” Stanko said. “Please don’t judge me by the worst day of my life.” After his words, prison officials administered the first dose of the sedative pentobarbital.

Witnesses said Stanko’s lips quivered and he appeared to say more words before taking several quick breaths. He stopped breathing within a minute. Thirteen minutes later, officials gave a second dose. He was officially declared dead 28 minutes after the execution began.

Concerns Over Execution Method and Final Decision

Stanko had originally considered choosing South Carolina’s recently introduced firing squad method, which had been used for the state’s two previous executions. However, after it was revealed that the bullets in the last firing squad execution nearly missed the inmate’s heart, he opted for lethal injection instead.

His legal team made a final appeal, arguing that autopsy reports from recent executions showed fluid in the lungs of inmates, raising concerns over the lethal injection method. Nonetheless, federal courts denied the appeal.

Just minutes before the execution, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster rejected clemency in a call to prison officials. “A governor has not spared a death row inmate’s life in the previous 48,” a statement read.

Las Vegas police confirm that married couple Tanisha Finley (43) and Rodney Finley (44) were livestreaming video on their shared YouTube channel when a gunman opened fire near the famous Bellagio fountains. Reports say that this attack happened due to an online feud that was taking place between the victims and the suspect since 2023.

The suspect ended this feud by attacking the married couple, which eventually led to their death. Both were killed instantly from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Clark County coroner’s office. The incident being livestreamed made for credible evidence, and the suspect, Manuel, is being held without bail.

Victims Filmed Final Moments Of Shooting In Las Vegas

Investigators described the shooting, which happened on a bustling Sunday night, as “an isolated incident” between the couple and the suspect, fueled by a long-standing online feud dating back to 2023. The suspect, Manuel D. Ruiz, turned himself in at a Las Vegas-area police station Monday morning.

Manuel D. Ruiz now faces two charges of open murder with a deadly weapon. He is being held without bail, based on jail records.

He told the police that he acted in self-defence, claiming he saw a victim reaching for a weapon, although authorities found no firearms on Tanisha or Rodney.

Livestream Captures Final Seconds

According to the police report, Ruiz pulled a gun from his waistband on camera. It led to him firing “between five and six shots” before Tanisha reached for the cellphone recording their night out. The gunman fired one or two more times as she tried to stop the live stream.

“The phone fell to the ground and remained still for a moment until a police officer appeared in the camera frame and turned off the livestream.” Their son, who called 911, described the terrifying sound of gunshots.

Police captured his words in the dispatch logs: “I heard gunshots around him,” he said. “I think he might have got shot…trying to check…where he’s at.” Ruiz also claimed to have been livestreaming that night on his own YouTube channel.

The shooting took place along a heavily frequented section of the Strip. This is where the Bellagio’s dancing fountains tower up to 460 feet every 15 minutes.

Authorities have not released further details. The investigation continues. However, the chilling livestream and backdrop of the iconic fountains have turned this into one of the most disturbing shootings in Las Vegas nightlife.

The Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had just taken off from Ahmedabad and was bound for London with 242 people on board, 230 passengers and 12 crew, and tragically, 241 lost their lives, and Ramesh is the only one who lived from the crash.

What Caused the Crash?

The crash took place just 33 seconds after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The pilot had issued a ‘Mayday’ distress call, signaling an emergency, but according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), there was no further communication from the aircraft.

Air India stated that among the 230 passengers, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian. The aircraft went down in a densely populated residential area. It struck an intern hostel at BJ Medical College, leading to massive destruction.

A formal investigation is now underway. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has confirmed the creation of a high-level committee to assess the crash and strengthen safety protocols. Also, the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is sending a team to India to assist in the probe.

A music associate mentioned that the turning point came during a kabaddi match organised by gangster Mandeep Dhaliwal, a Bambiha gang member. Sidhu Moosewala was invited to perform at the event in Bhago Majra, a village linked to Bishnoi’s rivals. “The first dispute was the kabaddi game at Bhago Majra… He was promoting our rivals,” said Goldy Brar in the documentary. “That’s when Lawrence and others were upset with Sidhu. They threatened Sidhu and said they wouldn’t spare him.”

Murder of Vicky Middukhera Intensifies Rivalry

In August 2021, the murder of Vicky Middukhera, a close friend of both Lawrence and Goldy, worsened the situation. Though the Bambiha gang allegedly took credit, the incident cast suspicion on Sidhu, due to his links with the gang.

Later, when a chargesheet was filed, Shaganpreet Singh, a close associate of Sidhu, was named as someone who helped the shooters. HGS Dhaliwal of the Delhi Police said, “Shaganpreet hosted the shooters, gave them accommodation.” Shaganpreet fled the country, but rumours tied Sidhu to the murder.

Goldy Brar stated, “Everyone knew Sidhu’s role (in Vicky’s death), the police knew, even the journalists knew. He was using his political power, his money, his resources to help our rivals, those who killed our brother. We wanted him to face punishment for what he’d done. He should have been booked. He should have been jailed, but no one heard our plea. So we took it upon ourselves. When decency falls on deaf ears, it’s the gunshot that gets heard.”

He added, “We had no option but to kill him. He had to face the consequences of his actions. It was either him or us. As simple as that.”

Murder Of Sidhu Moosewala

Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead on May 29, 2022, in Punjab’s Mansa district. He was attacked by a group of assailants while driving his SUV, just a day after the state government reduced his SUV, just a day after he was forced to reduce his security by the state government.

The attackers fired over 30 rounds at close range, leaving Moosewala dead. The killing shocked fans across the world and was later linked to gang rivalry, with gangster Goldy Brar claiming responsibility.

“There are several five-floor buildings that serve as residential quarters. Many people in those apartments were injured as the buildings also caught fire,” said one eyewitness. While official numbers are yet to be confirmed, multiple injuries have been reported.

The tragedy has also shaken India’s judiciary. In an official statement, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and Supreme Court judges, along with Registry officials, expressed sympathy.

“The Chief Justice of India has also expressed his concern for the inmates of the B J Medical College and Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad. During these difficult times, our thoughts and prayers are with them. May they find strength and solace in the support of their loved ones,” the CJI said.

Authorities continue rescue operations and investigations into what caused this rare and tragic event.

The sighting occurred on Christmas Day, when researchers aboard the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s R/V Falkor (too) used the remotely operated vehicle SuBastian to explore the depths near the Powell Basin. Due to poor weather and sea ice, the team diverted from their original location and stumbled upon the squid at a depth of 2,152 meters (about 7,000 feet).

“We were not supposed to be there and not at that precise moment,” said Manuel Novillo, a postdoctoral researcher from Argentina’s Instituto de Diversidad y Ecología Animal, who first spotted the shadowy creature on the live feed. “Voila, it appeared,” he added.

Elusive Species Emerges in Frigid Depths

Previously, scientists only knew of Gonatus antarcticus through dead specimens found in fishing nets or the beaks found in predators’ stomachs. This live sighting marks a milestone in marine biology.

The squid is approximately three feet long, has a red-blue hue. It is distinguished by a central hook on each tentacle. Novillo said the squid released a puff of greenish ink when discovered, likely startled by SuBastian’s approach. “It had scratches on its arms and sucker marks, suggesting a recent predator attack,” he noted.

According to Alex Hayward from the University of Exeter, deep-sea squids are typically hard to spot because they avoid lights. “We want to see them, but they probably don’t want to see us most of the time,” she explained.

The research team also collected sediment, water, and biological samples. They did so while mapping uncharted areas of the Weddell Sea. Weddell Sea is an area crucial for studying climate change and marine conservation.

Scientists have identified a new species of dinosaur that is now believed to be the closest known ancestor of the famous Tyrannosaurus rex. The species, discovered in a Mongolian museum collection, has been named Khankhuuluu mongoliensis, which translates to Dragon Prince of Mongolia.

The partial fossils, first found in the 1970s and initially labeled as another species called Alectrosaurus, were re-examined by Canadian PhD student Jared Voris. Transitional Fossil with T.rex Features

The fossils, dated to be 86 million years old, show that Khankhuuluu was a mid-sized predator weighing about 750kg. In contrast, the adult T.rex could reach weights eight times greater. This makes Khankhuuluu a transitional species between smaller Jurassic hunters and the massive tyrannosaurs that later ruled North America and Asia.

“‘Prince’ refers to this being an early, smaller tyrannosauroid,” explained Prof Zelenitsky. Tyrannosauroids were two-legged carnivores that evolved into the T.rex and its powerful relatives.

“They were these really small, fleet-footed predators that lived in the shadows of other apex predatory dinosaurs,” added Voris.
Khankhuuluu also shows early signs of the powerful bite T.rex became known for.

“We see features in its nasal bone that eventually gave tyrannosaurs those very powerful bite forces,” Voris said. These traits likely helped later tyrannosaurs hunt larger animals and even crush bone.

The findings, published in Nature, help reshape the tyrannosaur family tree.

“It has helped us revise the tyrannosaur family tree and rewrite what we know about the evolution of tyrannosaurs,” said Zelenitsky.

Interestingly, scientists say ancient land bridges between Alaska and Siberia helped tyrannosaurs migrate and evolve across continents.

“That movement back and forth between the continents basically pushed the evolution of different tyrannosaur groups,” Voris explained.

Prof Zelenitsky summed it up: “This discovery shows us that, before tyrannosaurs became the kings, they were princes.”

A heartbreaking case of suspected murder-suicide shook Faridabad on Tuesday after a 36-year-old Faridabad man, Manoj Mahto, and his four sons were killed by a train near Ballabhgarh railway station. Police believe suspicions about his wife’s faithfulness drove Mahto.

From Park Visit to Railway Tracks: A Tragic Turn

According to officials, Mahto, a daily-wage labourer living in Subhash Colony, told his wife that he was taking their four children to a nearby park. Instead, he led them to a hidden railway spot, approximately 1.5 km south of Ballabhgarh station, located under a flyover at Alson Chowk. The location was remote and not visible from the road.

Before the train arrived, Mahto reportedly bought his children, aged 3, 6, 9, and 10, some chips and fizzy drinks. Around 12:30 pm, the Golden Temple Express approached the tracks.

“The area where they were was not visible from the road. They were sitting there, 1.5 km south of the Ballabhgarh railway station. He held on tightly to the children as the Golden Temple Express arrived,” said Raj Pal, Station House Officer of Faridabad Government Railway Police (GRP).

As the train passed, all five were killed. The children’s cries went unheard due to the isolation of the site, police said. The loco pilot raised an alert shortly after the incident, prompting police to rush to the scene.

Wife Identified Bodies, Police Suspect Faridabad Man Was Jealous

Officers found the Aadhaar cards of both Mahto and his wife at the location. They contacted her using the mobile number on the card. She reportedly fainted upon seeing the bodies of her husband and sons.

The remains were taken to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Police say the initial motive appears to be rooted in Mahto’s suspicions over his wife’s interactions with other men.

“Initial questioning revealed that he used to suspect his wife’s marital loyalty. He would see her speaking to other men on the phone and have doubts (of a possible extramarital relationship). So, as of now, the motive seems to be that,” Raj Pal said.

“There has been no FIR or complaint so far. The alleged motive was only mentioned by the wife. We are currently speaking with her,” added Rajesh Kumar Chechi, GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police, Faridabad.
