Tabu Reunites with Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan for ‘Bhooth Bangla’ After ‘Dune: Prophecy’

Tabu is now scheduled to appear in Bhooth Bangla. That follows a well-received performance in Dune: Prophecy, a sci-fi prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s iconic film franchise. The news was released through her Instagram, where she published a shot of a clapboard with candles in the foreground, captioning it, “Hum yahan bandh hain (we are trapped here).“She tagged director Priyadarshan, Balaji Motion Pictures, and co-stars Akshay Kumar, Jisshu Sengupta, Wamiqa Gabbi, and music composer Pritam.

With Bhooth Bangla, she revisits this horror-comedy genre in which she did superlatively work as the twins witches, Manjulika and Anjulika of Anees Bazmee 2022, blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Along with this comedy, she does well in 2017s hit film for Rohit Shetty’s, Golmaal Again.

Interestingly, Bhooth Bangla reunites Tabu with collaborators Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar, both of whom have been instrumental in some of her past successes. Priyadarshan directed her in Virasat (1997), the cult classic Hera Pheri (2000), and other regional hits like Snegithiye (Tamil) and Raakilipattu (Malayalam). Meanwhile, Akshay and Tabu have shared the screen in films like Hera Pheri and Tu Chor Main Sipahi (1996).

Excited by the prospect, fans reacted as one of the Instagram users noted, “Manjulika meeting Dr Aditya Shrivastava (bow down emoji),” referring to the characters that Tabu and Akshay were portraying from the Bhool Bhulaiyaa series.

The Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures will also be presenting Bhooth Bangla. Wamiqa Gabbi, who starred recently with Tabu in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Khufiya (2023), will feature in the movie as well. Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, who gave several super hits in the past with films such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Khatta Meetha, and De Dana Dan, are back for this high-profile project as well.

The movie is set to release on April 2, 2026, and will promise a reunion of talents with the right mix of humor and horror that fans have been waiting for.

After offering a brief glimpse of various characters in the teaser for Dune: Prophecy, the creators have now unveiled the first official look at Tabu in the series. Tabu will portray Sister Francesca, a character central to the story.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the role, Tabu shared, “Playing Sister Francesca in Dune: Prophecy has been an extraordinary experience. From the moment I was approached, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. It’s a joy to be entrusted with such a complex, intriguing, and emotionally powerful character.” She continued, “Diving into her depth has been immersive and exciting. Set 10,000 years before the events depicted in the recent Dune films, Dune: Prophecy is based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert (the son of original Dune author Frank Herbert) and Kevin J. Anderson. The series will follow two Harkonnen sisters as they face threats to humanity’s future and lay the groundwork for the Bene Gesserit, a key sect in the Dune universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Originally developed as an exclusive for HBO’s streaming service Max, the series will now premiere under the HBO brand, airing on the cable network and streaming on Max as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s rebranding strategy.

Tabu will share the screen with a stellar cast that includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Johdi May, Travis Fimmel, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Mark Strong, Chloe Lea, Josh Heuston, and Jade Anouka. Ajay Devgn’s ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ had the potential to be a heartbreaking tale about love and separation. It, however, ends up being one of the weakest films of the actor’s storeyed career.

‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ centres on Krishna (Ajay/Shantanu Maheshwari), a simpleton with big dreams who hits a sweet spot in life after facing several hardships. He earns the opportunity to visit Germany for a work-related assignment. Moreover. He is in a steady relationship with Vasudha (Tabu/Saiee Manjrekar), His life, however, is turned upside down following a shocking incident. Many years later, after completing a prison sentence, he returns to the “outside world” to reunite with Vasudha. The rest of the story revolves around their past and their attempts to move on.

‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ has pretty much everything that one expects from a romantic-thriller right from a top-notch cast to an intriguing premise. It, however, fails to make any impact because of the bland screenplay. Neeraj Pandey, who has previously written well-received flicks such as ‘Baby’ and ‘MS Dhoni’, fails to deliver with his latest offering. ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ begins with a sequence set in a prison through which the director tries to build an aura around Ajay’s character. Sadly, the scene lacks the organic intensity needed to enthrall the audience.

As a result, it feels forced and staged. ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ goes further downhill from here as the makers struggle to flesh out the characters. The flashback sequences feel rushed and generic. Saiee and Shantanu’s underwhelming chemistry further dilutes the impact of these scenes, making it virtually impossible for one to take an interest in the characters and their journeys.

‘ Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ picks up once Jimmy Sheirgill, who plays Vasudha’s husband Abhijeet, enters the scene. However, this too eventually counts for nothing as the makers are unable to explore his backstory. As a result, the character comes across as one-dimensional.

His scenes with Ajay are mildly engaging but would have worked better had the world-building been upto the mark.

Tabu and Ajay’s scenes too have potential but fall flat as, unlike in the yesteryear classic ‘Aandhi’, their silences do not talk.

Coming to the performances, Ajay Devgn tries to rise about the poor script but the director doesn’t really really give him a chance to internalise the character, which is a real shame given his abilities. The same applies to Tabu’s performance as well. Saiee and Shantanu put their best foot forward but clearly deserved better.

It is, however, Jimmy who gets the weakest and most forgettable character of the lot. He tries his level best to channelise his character’s insecurities but the writing just doesn’t let him do tha.

The music, composed by MM Kreem, is one of the film’s biggest highlights. However, none of the songs have a long shelf-life. There are a few action scenes but they pale in comparison to what Ajay has done in his previous films.

To conclude, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is a forgettable attempt at storytelling with no redeeming qualities.

Diljit is ‘Spiritual’, Constantly Chants ‘Om Namah Shivay’: ‘Crew’ actor Trupti Khamkar

Trupti Khamkar, portraying a police officer in the movie, recently discussed her shooting experience, expressing that it was a significant opportunity to work alongside numerous stars. She had many scenes with Diljit and commended the actor, describing him as “spiritual.”

Trupti described Diljit as a devout follower of Lord Shiva, often reciting ‘Om Namah Shivay.’ Speaking to The Free Press Journal, she expressed, “I would definitely like to work with Diljit again. In the same interview, Trupti mentioned that during filming, director Rajesh A Krishnan assured her that her role was “even bigger” than Diljit Dosanjh’s, although she initially took it as a joke. “During the shoot, the director (Rajesh A Krishnan) told me that my role is very important, even bigger than Diljit Dosanjh. I thought he was just fooling me and wanted to make me happy. But when I saw the film, I was surprised and that is when I understood that he was not lying,” she shared. ‘Crew’, which hit screens on March 29, has emerged as a commercial success. The film follows three flight attendants who get trapped in an unexpected situation of never-ending struggle. The movie features Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon in the lead along with Diljit Dosanjh and Kapil Sharma.

The three leading actresses have made their mark in Indian cinema. Tabu began her acting career as a teenager in Dev Anand’s ‘Hum Naujawan’ in 1985. However, she played her first leading role in the Telugu film ‘Coolie No.1’ (1991) for which she received the ‘Filmfare award for Best Female Debut.’ Kareena Kapoor Khan began her career with ‘Refugee’ (2000). Meanwhile, Kriti made her Bollywood debut with ‘Heropanti’ in 2014.

Interestingly, there are some striking similarities between the three ladies in terms of their selection of roles and career graphs.

No stranger to Female-Centric Roles

Tabu impressed critics with ‘Chandni Bar’ where she played the role of a bar dancer in Mumbai’s red-light district. The film explored the themes of poverty, exploitation and violence.

Similarly, Kareena’s role as a sex worker in ‘Chameli’ (2003) elevated her career. She later picked many bold characters such as Rosi’ in ‘Talaash; The Answer Lies Within’ and ‘Mahi Arora in ‘Heroine’.

Likewise, Kriti raised the bar with her performance in ‘Mimi’ where she played the role of a surrogate mother. The film was widely acclaimed and helped her win the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and the National Film Award for Best Actress.

Conveying a message through their work

Some of the films chosen by these ladies were ahead of their time. One such film that Tabu did was ‘Aamdani Athanni Kharcha Rupaiya’. This was long before female-centric films became a thing in modern Indian cinema. She played Meena, a helpless housewife-turned-independent woman who chooses to stand tall in the face of domestic violence. She conveyed this message well on the big screen.

On the other hand, Bebo in ‘Jab We Met’ played the evergreen character of Geet, a charming and bubbly girl who was also fiercely independent. The film is one of the most emotionally rich romantic comedies of Indian cinema. Kriti’s ‘Dilwale’, apart from being a box office hit was also a bold choice. For Kriti, ‘Teri Baton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ featured her as Sifra, a robot that again is a difficult character to pull off. Kriti, to her credit, did justice to it and experimented within the commercial space

Crew, which hit screens on March 29, received a favorable response during the first weekend of its release. According to Trade Analyst Joginder Tuteja, the film has turned out to be a big hit at the box office. He feels it will touch the Rs 33 crore mark* by the end of its first Sunday (March 31)

“It has been two days since Crew released. Including today it will go on to hit 33 crores,” he told The Daily Guardian.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh posted the breakdown of the first two days on X.

Crew, which hit screens on March 29, has received a favorable response upon its domestic box office debut. Akshaye Rathi, an exhibitor, feels that the film’s day 1 collection is likely to be between Rs 5 crore* and Rs 6 crore.

“I am highly optimistic about the film’s first-day box office collection due to its compelling storyline and the stellar performances by all three actresses, Tabu, Kareena, and Kriti. We anticipate that it will garner a substantial revenue ranging between Rs 5 crore to Rs 6 crore on its opening day,” he told The Daily Guardian.

Rathi added that Crew has the potential to attract viewers from all demographics to the theatres.

“’Crew’ has generated significant buzz even before its release. The film delivers an exciting experience that promises plenty of drama, humor, and jauntiness in equal proportion. It has the capacity to enthrall viewers in theaters, irrespective of their age or geographic region. Vidya Balan Files FIR Against Imposter Behind Fake Insta Profile

Actor Vidya Balan filed an FIR with Mumbai Police against an unknown person for creating a fake Instagram account in her name and soliciting money from others.
According to Mumbai police, an unknown person created an identical Instagram ID and approached people for money while promising them work.
Khar Police has filed an FIR under Section 66(C) of the IT.

Vidya Balan has a large internet following, and she continues to create films and reels that her fans enjoy. This has created a big dilemma for her because someone is using her name and requesting money from others.

According to a police official, an unknown person created an identical Instagram ID of Vidya Balan as well as a Gmail account and then used those identities to contact people involved with Bollywood.

Police said he was asking people for money while promising them jobs.
When Vidya Balan learned of this, she filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police. Based on Balan’s accusation, Khar Police have filed an FIR against an unknown person under Section 66 (C) of the IT, and an inquiry is currently underway.

She had previously revealed in her Instagram stories that someone was running an account under her name.

Meanwhile, Vidya plans to return to the ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ franchise.
The talented actor is most recognized for her portrayal of Manjulika in the 2007 psychological horror-comedy film ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’.

On Monday, actor Kartik Aaryan, who played the lead in the second chapter and will reprise his role in the third, welcomed Vidya onboard.

9 Years Of ‘Haider’

Shahid Kapoor and Tabu-starrer ‘Haider’ clocked nine years today.

Marking the film’s ninth anniversary, Tabu took to Instagram and shared a throwback picture with director Vishal Bhardwaj from the sets of ‘Haider’.

“Haider. Kashmir 2013 @vishalrbhardwaj. Love and only ❤️,” she captioned the post.

Shahid took to Instagram Story and dropped a famous monologue of him from the film.

‘Haider’ is considered as one of the best performances of Shahid. He also believes the same.

On the film’s seventh anniversary, he penned a note, saying he will be ‘indebted’ to the movie for helping him find himself as an actor.

Ajay Shares First Motion Look Poster of Tabu in “Bholaa”

Actor Ajay Devgn, on Tuesday, disclosed the principal look motion poster of actress Tabu from their upcoming activity thrill ride film ‘Bholaa’.
Taking to Instagram, Ajay shared the poster which he inscribed, “Ek khaaki. Sau shaitaan. #TabuInBholaa.”

In the poster, Tabu should have been visible wearing a cop outfit and oozing boss-woman vibes.
Not long after Ajay shared the banner, fans overflowed the remark segment with red hearts and fire emojis.
“Tabu ji fir se ek baar Box office pe bawal machane ko taiyar hai,” a fan commented.

Producers as of late wrapped up the shooting of the film. ‘Bholaa’ is the official Hindi remake of the Tamil hit ‘Kaithi’ and Ajay has directed it.
