CWI CEO Chris Dehring called the series more than just a tournament. Dehring noted the importance of helping Nepal during this crucial period in its cricketing development.

England Skipper Jos Buttler Reflects on T20I Series Loss to India

February 2, 2025, 11:49 pm

England captain Jos Buttler shared his thoughts on his team’s defeat to India in the fifth and final match of the series, expressing disappointment over the result.

India secured a commanding 4-1 series victory with a historic win at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s outstanding all-round performance. The hosts had already sealed the series before this match.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Buttler acknowledged both the positives and areas for improvement for England while praising the Indian team.

“We’re disappointed to lose the series, but we’ve done some things well and some things we want to improve on. We want to keep committing to this style of cricket and execute better. India are a fantastic side, especially at home, and we’re better for the experience, the experience of great crowds like this at the Wankhede. Positives: Some of the guys’ bowling performances – even today, Brydon Carse and Mark Wood were outstanding. I’ve seen a lot of cricket, and I thought Abhishek’s innings today was one of the best,” Buttler was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying.

Match Recap

England won the toss and chose to bowl first, but Abhishek Sharma put on a spectacular show with the bat. He smashed 135 runs off just 54 balls, hitting seven fours and 13 sixes, powering India to a total of 247/9.

For England, Brydon Carse led the bowling attack with three wickets, while Mark Wood picked up two.

Chasing 248, England struggled against India’s bowlers. Opener Philip Salt (55 off 23 balls, 7 fours and 3 sixes) was the only batter to put up a fight. The rest of the batting lineup faltered, and England was bowled out for just 97, with nine overs still to spare.

India’s bowlers dominated, with Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube, and Varun Chakravarthy each taking three wickets.

Abhishek Sharma was named ‘Player of the Match’, while Varun Chakravarthy earned the ‘Player of the Series’ award.

India Clinches T20I Series With Dominant Win Over Bangladesh

October 9, 2024, 11:57 pm

Young Nitish Kumar Reddy’s all-round brilliance propelled India to their largest T20I victory against Bangladesh in the second match held in Delhi, clinching the three-match series with an unbeatable 2-0 lead on Wednesday. The world champions, resting several key players, set a daunting target of 221/9, subsequently restricting Bangladesh to a mere 135/9, resulting in an 86-run win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

IND vs BAN 2nd T20I: HIGHLIGHTS FROM DELHI

Despite a strong start from Bangladesh, with opener Parvez Hossain Emon hitting three boundaries in the first over, India’s bowlers quickly regained control. After conceding early runs, Arshdeep Singh dismissed Emon in his next over, marking a turning point. The introduction of spinners, led by Washington Sundar and Varun Chakaravarthy, effectively derailed Bangladesh’s chase. They lost three wickets for just six runs within 14 balls.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das struggled to build momentum, while veteran Mahmudullah’s effort of 41 runs off 39 balls proved insufficient as the required run rate escalated. Ultimately, Bangladesh managed only 135/9 in their allotted overs.

India’s bowling unit, particularly the spinners, delivered exceptional performances throughout the innings. Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Abhishek Sharma took key wickets, while Nitish Rana ensured Bangladesh could not recover by taking two late wickets. Reddy’s contributions with both bat and ball (2/23), combined with impressive fielding, secured the series victory with one match remaining.

NITISH, RINKU POWER INDIA TO 221

Earlier, Nitish Reddy played a sensational innings, complemented by Rinku Singh’s explosive half-century, helping India set a formidable target of 221/9 against Bangladesh. Reddy scored 74 runs off just 34 balls, featuring seven towering sixes and four boundaries, making it the highlight of the Indian innings. The 21-year-old and Rinku Singh (53 off 29) formed a crucial 108-run partnership for the fourth wicket, rescuing India from a shaky start following an early collapse.

Choosing to bat first, India’s top order was put under pressure by Bangladesh’s strong pace attack, led by Tanzim Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, and Taskin Ahmed. Their effective variations kept the Indian batsmen in check. Sanju Samson began well, scoring 15 runs off the first over from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, but was soon dismissed by Taskin Ahmed.

Abhishek Sharma showed flashes of brilliance with consecutive boundaries until a rapid delivery from Tanzim Hasan bowled him out. Suryakumar Yadav fell shortly after, misreading a slower ball from Mustafizur and giving a straightforward catch to Shanto, leaving India reeling with three wickets down during the powerplay.

However, Reddy, in just his second T20I, steadied the innings with impressive power-hitting, reaching his maiden fifty off 27 balls with an exceptional shot to long-on. His partner, Rinku Singh, added to the scoreboard with a brisk 53, hitting five boundaries and three sixes, including a massive strike off leg-spinner Rishad Hossain.

The duo shifted gears during the middle overs, with Reddy launching an aggressive assault on Hossain, hammering three sixes in the 10th over to push India past the 100-run milestone. His clean hitting thrilled the crowd, sending balls soaring over long-on and mid-wicket effortlessly.

Reddy’s commendable innings came to a close when Mustafizur, utilizing his trademark slower ball, deceived him for a crucial wicket. Nonetheless, Reddy’s performance earned him a well-deserved standing ovation.

“Players like Riyan Parag and Harshit Rana have shown tremendous promise. They’ve been training hard at the National Cricket Academy and are strong contenders for the Zimbabwe series,” shared a BCCI source anonymously.

Meanwhile, people are wondering about what will happen with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in T20Is after the World Cup. Reports say they might start playing more ODIs and Tests instead. This could show a change in India’s cricket plan.

While stars like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya may sit out due to their packed schedules, a blend of fresh faces and familiar names like Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill are expected to represent India in Zimbabwe. Hardik Pandya likely to miss Afghanistan T20I series, will be fit before IPL

December 27, 2023, 2:47 pm

Famous Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya will probably miss the Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan, but an ankle injury will likely heal in time for the Indian Premier League (IPL), a source told ANI. Pandya was a member of India’s World Cup team for ICC Cricket. Prior to being ruled out of the tournament due to an ankle injury sustained during a league stage match against Bangladesh on October 19, he played four matches, taking five wickets with the best bowling figures of 2/34 and scoring 11* against Australia in his only innings.

Pandya has not played any international cricket since then, having missed the five-match T20I series against Australia and the three-match T20I and ODI series during the tour to South Africa as well. Suryakumar Yadav led India in all the T20I matches while KL Rahul led the team in ODIs in the absence of Pandya and regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who requested some time off from white-ball cricket after the World Cup final against Australia.
The three-match T20I series against Afghanistan will be India’s final international assignment, taking place from January 11-17, before the ICC T20 World Cup, which will take place in June at West Indies/USA.
In November this year, Pandya moved from Gujarat Titans (GT) to his former franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) after a trade between both franchises. The all-rounder spent two momentous years with GT, spearheading their campaign with aplomb. In GT’s debut season in 2022, Hardik ensured a fairytale start, with the team lifting the coveted trophy, while they finished runners-up in their second season after a last-ball defeat in a thrilling final earlier this year.
