July 16, 2024, 2:56 am

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya received a warm reception in his home city of Vadodara for the first time since becoming a T20 World Champion. A roadshow was organized on Monday to celebrate India’s T20 World Cup triumph, where Hardik and his brother, fellow cricketer Krunal Pandya, waved to the cheering crowds from an open-top bus. The banner “Hardik Pandya – Pride of Vadodara” adorned the bus as it navigated through streets filled with fans, many of whom held up posters in admiration.

Hardik, who served as the vice-captain during the T20 World Cup, had a stellar campaign, scoring 144 runs at an average of 48.00 and a strike rate of 151.57 in six innings. His contributions with the ball were equally significant, claiming 11 wickets in eight games at an average of 17.36 and an economy rate of 7.64. In the final, he played a crucial role by taking the wickets of Heinrich Klassen, David Miller, and Kagiso Rabada, helping India lift an ICC trophy after 11 years.

This victory marked a redemption for Pandya, who faced widespread criticism and online trolling during the IPL 2024 after replacing Rohit Sharma as captain of Mumbai Indians. Despite recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the 50-over World Cup, Pandya endured boos at every stadium. His team’s poor performance only intensified the backlash. However, Pandya’s World Cup success turned the tide, silencing his critics.

In an emotional interview with Star Sports post-victory, Pandya reflected on the past six months, expressing his determination to not let his detractors see him in pain. He shared, “I just wanted those six months to return. I controlled myself a lot. I wanted to cry. But to all those people who were happy seeing me in pain during those difficult few months, I didn’t want to give them more reasons to be happy. And I will never give them that moment. Look at the opportunity that I got today, probably by God’s grace, I bowled the last over. I could not even imagine that. I’m speechless.”

Former Pakistan Captain Ramiz Raja Speaks on Arshdeep Singh’s Performance in T20 World Cup

July 11, 2024, 3:17 pm

India’s left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh finished the T20 World Cup 2024 as the joint highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets, sharing the honor with Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi. His impressive performance, highlighted by a crucial spell of 2 for 20 in the final against South Africa at Bridgetown, Barbados, helped India clinch the trophy. Arshdeep’s ability to learn and stay calm under pressure has garnered praise from cricket experts and former players.

India’s journey to victory was marked by an unbeaten run in the tournament, culminating in a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final on June 29. Arshdeep played a pivotal role in the comeback, especially with his tight penultimate over, conceding just four runs. Jasprit Bumrah, who was named the ‘Player of the Tournament’ with 15 wickets, was a key figure, but Arshdeep’s development alongside Bumrah has been noteworthy.

Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja highlighted Arshdeep’s growth and learning from Bumrah, emphasizing his ability to perform without being overshadowed. Raja praised Arshdeep’s clever bowling in high-pressure situations, noting his effective use of slower balls and bouncers. He further said, “Bumrah ke hote hue, ye craft seekh bhi rahe hain, par unse dab nahi rahe hain”. He also remarked on Arshdeep’s confidence and self-belief, which are crucial for his development and contribution to the team.

Raja also lauded the overall improvement in India’s pace-bowling unit over the past decade, attributing it to the continuous enhancement of skills in the domestic circuit. He believes that Arshdeep embodies this progress with his willingness to learn and improve consistently, which is evident in his performances on the international stage.

Following his century, Abhishek also connected with his mentor and former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, as seen in a video where Yuvraj congratulated him on his achievement and offered words of encouragement for his future in cricket.

Abhishek’s batting prowess was on full display in the match, where he bounced back from a duck in his T20I debut to score his century in just 47 balls. Reflecting on his performance, Abhishek credited his father’s advice for his aggressive batting style, saying, “Special thanks to my dad who always encouraged me to play lofted shots even when I was a kid. Usually, coaches don’t allow you to play lofted shots much. My dad used to tell me ‘if you want to play a lofted shot, it should go out of the ground.'”

India’s victory, powered by Abhishek’s century and solid contributions from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rinku Singh, helped them level the series 1-1 as they posted a formidable total of 234 runs.

India is currently revelling in the success of their T20 World Cup 2024 victory, which they clinched by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final, ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought. After arriving in Delhi on the morning of July 4, the team proceeded to Mumbai for a grand victory parade towards Wankhede Stadium.

Interestingly, the Vistara flight from Delhi to Mumbai that carried Team India had the code ‘UK1845’, which combined the jersey numbers of Virat Kohli (18) and Rohit Sharma (45). This special touch was a tribute to the two cricketing legends who retired from T20Is after the World Cup win. The team was welcomed on the flight with a cake-cutting ceremony, personalized handwritten cards, special baggage tags, and themed meals to honour their achievement.

How India Won the T20 World Cup 2024 Final

India won the toss in the final and opted to bat first. The start was shaky as Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant were dismissed early by Keshav Maharaj. Suryakumar Yadav also fell cheaply, leaving India in trouble. However, Axar Patel and Virat Kohli stabilized the innings with a crucial 72-run partnership. Axar scored a quick 47 off 31 balls before being dismissed. Kohli then took charge, scoring 76 off 51 balls, with Shivam Dube adding a valuable 27 off 16 balls. India posted a total of 176/7 in their 20 overs.

In response, India got off to a strong start, taking early wickets of Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram. However, Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs brought South Africa back into the game. Heinrich Klaasen’s rapid half-century off 22 balls swung the momentum towards South Africa. But Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya turned the tide back in India’s favor, with Pandya taking 3 wickets and Bumrah 2, ultimately leading India to victory.

Celebration and Recognition

The victory parade in Mumbai saw massive crowds gathering to celebrate with the team. Fans lined the route to Wankhede Stadium, chanting and cheering for their heroes. The gesture of using the flight code ‘UK1845’ and the onboard celebrations highlighted the respect and admiration for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s contributions to Indian cricket. This historic win has reignited India’s passion for cricket and brought immense joy to fans across the nation.

T20 Cricket: Revival of Cricket in the 21st Century

July 3, 2024, 1:58 pm

From humble beginnings as a marketing ploy to revive dwindling county cricket crowds, Twenty20 has transformed into a global phenomenon, injecting new life into the sport and captivating audiences worldwide.

The format, introduced by Stuart Robertson, an England and Wales Cricket Board executive, has brought a vibrant, fast-paced, and highly entertaining style of cricket that appeals to new and younger fans, particularly in cricket-mad India where the Indian Premier League (IPL) has become a cultural phenomenon. Since its inception in 2003, Twenty20 (T20) cricket has rapidly evolved into the most popular and lucrative format of the game, captivating audiences worldwide.

Early Adoption and Global Spread The first official T20 tournament, played by English county teams, showcased the format’s potential. The ECB’s initiative was quickly adopted by other cricketing nations. In 2005, Australia and New Zealand played the first international T20 match in Auckland, featuring retro uniforms and light-hearted play. Despite its initial novelty, T20 cricket soon proved to be more than just a marketing gimmick, as its popularity soared.

A Game-Changer in Cricket The introduction of T20 cricket in 2003 marked a significant shift in the sport. Developed to counter declining attendances at county matches, T20 cricket condensed the game into a 20-over per side contest, designed to be completed in approximately three hours. This shorter format was intended to make cricket more accessible and appealing to a broader audience, including those who found traditional formats too lengthy and slow.

The Inaugural T20 World Cup The 2007 ICC T20 World Cup in South Africa was a watershed moment. With India emerging victorious in a thrilling final against Pakistan, the tournament highlighted T20’s appeal. The victory not only galvanized cricket fans in India but also laid the groundwork for the launch of the IPL in 2008, which has since become one of the richest and most watched cricket leagues globally.

Twenty20 (T20) cricket has been instrumental in attracting new viewers, especially the younger generation, by offering a vibrant, fast-paced, and highly entertaining style of cricket. The format’s shorter duration, with matches typically lasting around three hours, fits the fast-paced lifestyle of modern audiences who seek quick and engaging entertainment.

Rise of Domestic T20 Leagues Following the success of the IPL, other countries established their own T20 leagues. The Big Bash League (Australia), Pakistan Super League, and Caribbean Premier League are just a few examples. These leagues have provided platforms for both local and international players to showcase their skills, further popularizing the format.

Impact on Players and Gameplay T20 cricket has revolutionized how the game is played. It demands innovative batting, aggressive fielding, and strategic acumen from players and teams. The fast-paced nature of T20 matches has led to the development of specialized skills, such as power hitting and death-over bowling, which are less prominent in longer formats.

Controversy and Traditionalists’ Concerns Despite its popularity, T20 cricket has faced criticism from purists who argue that it undermines the traditional formats of Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket. Critics worry that the commercial success of T20 might overshadow the more intricate and historic forms of the game, potentially diminishing their significance.

“I couldn’t possibly imagine what would have happened with it,” Robertson admitted years later. “All it was then was a way to get new audiences interested in county cricket.”

From its humble origins as a marketing stunt, Twenty20 cricket has transformed the sport, captivating audiences worldwide with its fast-paced action and entertainment value. As the format continues to evolve, one thing is certain: cricket’s Twenty20 revolution has forever changed the game, ushering in a new era of excitement and inclusivity.

“Twenty20 cricket, with its cheerleaders, loud music, and quick-fire entertainment, was credited with reviving cricket in the 21st century,” cricket historian Gideon Haigh observed.

Rohit Sharma Reveals Why He Took ‘A Bite’ of the Barbados Pitch

July 2, 2024, 10:25 am

Indian cricket team’s captain Rohit Sharma recently explained his unique celebration after leading his team to victory in the T20 World Cup on July 29. India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final to win their second T20 World Cup title, with Rohit playing a pivotal role. A viral video showed Rohit taking a bite of the Barbados pitch at the Kensington Oval, sparking curiosity among fans.

In a candid interview following the captain’s photoshoot, Rohit revealed the reason behind his gesture. He said that the pitch had played a crucial role in their win, and he wanted to keep a piece of it as a lasting memory. “See, those things are actually, I don’t think I can describe that because nothing was scripted. It was all, you know, whatever was coming instinctively, I was feeling the moment when I went to the pitch because that pitch gave us this. We played on that particular pitch, and we won the game. That particular ground as well. I will remember that ground forever in my life and that pitch as well. So I wanted to have a piece of it with me. Yeah, those moments are very, very special. And the place where all our dreams came true. I wanted something of it. So that was the feeling behind it,” said Rohit.

Reflecting on the victory, Rohit said the feeling of winning the World Cup still hasn’t fully sunk in. “Yeah, the feeling actually is surreal. Uh, it’s still I would still say it hasn’t sunk in. Totally. It’s been a great moment. You know, right from when the game got over till now, you know, it feels like a dream. We still feel that it hasn’t happened, although it has happened, but it feels like it hasn’t happened.”

Rohit described the sense of relief and joy that comes with achieving a long-held dream. “That’s the emotion. That’s the feeling that you have. We’ve dreamt about this for such a long period of time. We worked hard as a unit for such a long period of time, and to see this now with us feels quite relieved as well because when you work hard for something and you eventually get it at the end, it feels really, really nice,” said Rohit.

The Indian team is set to depart from Barbados and arrive in New Delhi by Wednesday evening, despite concerns about a potential hurricane in the region.

Indian Team Stranded in Barbados Due to Hurricane Beryl: Report

July 1, 2024, 12:37 am

Following their triumphant T20 World Cup victory, the Rohit Sharma-led Team India finds themselves in a precarious situation in Barbados due to the impending Hurricane Beryl. The team is currently stranded at their Hotel Hilton in Barbados, as the hurricane threatens to hit the island with significant risks of flight cancellations.

The team was originally scheduled to depart Barbados on Monday at 11 AM local time (8:30 PM IST), heading to New York, followed by a connecting flight to Dubai and then back to India. However, the approaching hurricane, expected to make landfall around midnight on Sunday or early Monday morning, has forced the Barbadian authorities to take precautionary measures. Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced that Grantley Adams International Airport would close by nighttime on Sunday, preventing any flights from landing or taking off.

The team’s hotel, Hilton Barbados Resort, is located close to the coast and is likely to be impacted by the Category 3 hurricane. This could potentially leave the team stranded in Barbados for 36 to 48 hours if they are unable to board their scheduled flight.

According to a report by news agency PTI, the current plan is to arrange a charter flight directly from Barbados to Delhi. This would circumvent the need for the original route through New York and Dubai, ensuring the team’s safe return to India. Additionally, a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being considered once the team is back in the country.

The team and their management are closely monitoring the situation, and further updates will depend on the developments regarding Hurricane Beryl and the reopening of the airport.

Team India Players Might Meet PM Modi on Arrival from West Indies After World Cup Glory: Report

July 1, 2024, 12:21 am

Team India players are likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon their return to the country after their triumphant T20 World Cup campaign in the West Indies. According to sources, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials are planning a meet-up with PM Modi, with most of the players expected to attend, except for Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shivam Dube. These three players are part of India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe, set to begin on July 6 in Harare.

Following India’s seven-run victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final, PM Modi spoke to head coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, and veteran batter Virat Kohli to congratulate them on their win. This victory marks India’s first T20 World Cup title since 2007 and their first ICC trophy since the Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

India’s final against South Africa saw them opting to bat first after winning the toss. Despite a shaky start at 35/3, Virat Kohli’s 76 and Axar Patel’s 47 helped stabilize the innings with a 72-run partnership, leading India to a total of 176/7. In response, South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen (52), Quinton de Kock (39), and Tristan Stubbs (31) fought valiantly, but India’s fine death bowling by Hardik Pandya (3/20), Jasprit Bumrah (2/20), and Arshdeep Singh (2/18) secured the win.

A highlight of the final was Suryakumar Yadav’s spectacular catch to dismiss David Miller off Hardik Pandya’s bowling in the final over. This catch shifted the momentum in India’s favor, and Hardik Pandya successfully defended 16 runs, allowing just eight runs in the over to clinch the title for India.

June 29, 2024, 11:40 pm

India pulled off a stunning victory to end their 11-year ICC trophy drought, winning the T20 World Cup for the second time in their history. In a thrilling final against South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, India set a formidable total of 176/7, the highest ever team total in the history of the T20 World Cup final. Virat Kohli played a crucial innings, scoring 76, with support from Shivam Dube, who added 27 runs towards the end.

South Africa’s chase began disastrously as Jasprit Bumrah cleaned up Reeza Hendricks in the second over, followed by Arshdeep Singh dismissing Aiden Markram in the third, leaving them reeling with two quick wickets down. Earlier, India’s top order had struggled against Keshav Maharaj, who took the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, and Kagiso Rabada, who dismissed Suryakumar Yadav, leaving India at a precarious position inside the powerplay. Axar Patel provided stability with a well-played 47 before being run out by a brilliant throw from Quinton de Kock.

IND vs SA, T20 World Cup 2024: Virat Kohli Equals Babar Azam’s Massive Record After a Crucial Fifty

June 29, 2024, 10:47 pm

In the T20 World Cup final, Virat Kohli, as highlighted by captain Rohit Sharma, saved his best for last. Facing South Africa, Kohli stepped up when the top-order crumbled, hitting his first fifty of the tournament. Reaching his half-century in 48 balls at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, Kohli’s steady presence helped India post a competitive total by holding one end and preventing South Africa from gaining complete control.

Despite managing only 75 runs in the first seven matches of the T20 World Cup, Kohli’s place in the side was questioned. However, the team management, including Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid, backed his experience to deliver at this crucial stage.

In the final, Kohli adopted a more classical approach, contrasting with his aggressive style seen in earlier matches. His innings began with three boundaries in the first over – a cover drive, a straight drive, and a flick to deep fine-leg. Kohli’s adaptability shone through, especially after being criticized for playing out of his natural style in the semi-final against England, where he fell attempting an ambitious shot off Reece Topley.

Kohli equaled Babar Azam’s record for the most fifty-plus scores in men’s T20I cricket, achieving his 39th in 126 matches. He accelerated after reaching his fifty, finishing with 76 off 59 balls, scoring his last 26 runs in just 11 balls, after going 37 balls without a boundary.

India posted a total of 176 for 7 in their 20 overs, bolstered by a late cameo from Shivam Dube and a significant contribution from Axar Patel, who shifted the momentum with a brave 47 off 31 deliveries.

WATCH: Axar Patel’s Brain Fade Moment Leading to His Run Out, Rohit’s Reaction Tells It All

June 29, 2024, 10:32 pm

Axar Patel missed out on a half-century in the 2024 T20 World Cup Final against South Africa, getting run out on 47 due to a misjudgment. Axar, who was at the non-striker’s end, believed a run was possible when the ball deflected off Virat Kohli’s thigh pad towards the leg-side. However, he was slow to return to his crease, and a direct hit by South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock caught him short. This moment was notable, with India captain Rohit Sharma visibly unimpressed by the nature of Axar’s dismissal.

Axar had been sent in to bat at a precarious 34/3 after early dismissals of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav. He played a crucial role in stabilizing India’s innings, scoring 47 off 31 balls with four sixes and one boundary, helping to relieve pressure from Virat Kohli. Axar’s departure left India at 106/4 after 13.3 overs, with Shivam Dube coming in to replace him.

Despite this setback, Kohli continued to anchor the innings, reaching his fifty in 48 balls by the 17th over and accelerating thereafter. India aims for their second T20 World Cup title, having first won in 2007, while South Africa, playing in their first T20 World Cup Final, seeks their inaugural title.

“Cannot Write Off a Player Like Virat Kohli”: Chris Gayle Backs India Star Ahead of T20 WC Final

June 29, 2024, 3:58 am

Former West Indies opener and captain Chris Gayle has expressed confidence in Virat Kohli’s ability to overcome his current struggles in the T20 World Cup, emphasizing that Kohli’s talent and experience make him a player who cannot be discounted. Despite Kohli’s challenging run in the tournament, Gayle, who played alongside Kohli for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), believes in Kohli’s potential to shine in the final against South Africa.

Reflecting on Kohli’s form, Gayle acknowledged the ups and downs that even top players like Kohli experience, citing his previous dominant performances in World Cups. Gayle highlighted that while every player faces rough patches, being in the final presents an opportunity for Kohli to showcase his match-winning capabilities once again.

Kohli’s recent struggles in the T20 World Cup stand in stark contrast to his outstanding performance in IPL 2024, where he topped the batting charts with 741 runs at an average of 61.75 and a remarkable strike rate. However, in the ongoing World Cup, Kohli has managed only 75 runs in seven matches at an average of 10.71, raising concerns about his current form.

India is scheduled to face South Africa in the T20 World Cup final at the Kensington Oval on Saturday. Contingency plans are in place for a reserve day in case rain disrupts the scheduled match.

“Cricket Is a Game of Ups and Downs”: Markram on Kohli’s Form in ICC T20 WC 2024

June 29, 2024, 3:24 am

Ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final against India at Kensington Oval, South Africa’s captain Aiden Markram addressed concerns over Virat Kohli’s recent struggles in the tournament. Markram acknowledged Kohli’s greatness but stressed that cricket involves fluctuations in form, stating, “I don’t think it worries me. He’s a great player, as we all know.” He highlighted the depth in India’s batting lineup beyond Kohli and emphasized his team’s focus on planning and preparation to counter India’s strengths.

Kohli, who had a stellar IPL 2024 with RCB, scoring 741 runs including a century and five half-centuries, has found the T20 World Cup challenging. In seven matches, he has managed only 75 runs at an average of 10.71, struggling to replicate his IPL form. Despite moments of promise, such as a powerful shot off Reece Topley, Kohli has faced difficulties, culminating in dismissals that have thwarted his efforts.

With both India and South Africa entering the final unbeaten, the stage is set for a compelling clash. Rohit Sharma’s India, boasting a formidable lineup including Kohli, faces Aiden Markram’s South Africa, known for their resilience and strategic play. The final promises to be a showdown of contrasting fortunes and tactical acumen, as both teams vie for the prestigious T20 World Cup title.

Unbeaten India Look to End on a Fairytale Ending, With South Africa Looking to Spoil the Party

June 29, 2024, 2:12 am

India and South Africa are set for a historic showdown at the Kensington Oval in the T20 World Cup final. This match marks the third ICC tournament final in a year for the duo of head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma, following heartbreaks in the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship finals at the hands of Australia. This time, however, Australia will not be there to spoil the party. Instead, it will be Aiden Markram-led South Africa looking to challenge India’s dominance and ensure they do not leave with the trophy.

India has had an impressive run in the tournament, showcasing dominance against formidable opponents like Australia, Pakistan, and England. On the other hand, South Africa has had a more challenging path to the final, narrowly escaping defeat on several occasions. They faced tough competition from Bangladesh and Nepal in the group stage and almost exited the tournament in their final Super 8 game against co-hosts, the West Indies. However, they managed to break their semi-final jinx by defeating Afghanistan comprehensively in the semi-final at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago.

Throughout the tournament, spinners have played a crucial role in the Caribbean conditions, but the Kensington Oval has been more favorable to pacers. Fast bowlers have taken 59 wickets at an average of 20.22 and an economy rate of 7.88 on this pitch, suggesting that pace might play a significant role in the final.

The threat of rain looms over the final, but a reserve day is in place to ensure the match reaches its conclusion. Regardless of which team wins, history will be made, as the T20 World Cup has never seen an undefeated champion. Both India and South Africa have the chance to create history by becoming the first team to go unbeaten throughout the tournament.

As the two unbeaten teams prepare for this ultimate clash, cricket fans around the world eagerly anticipate a thrilling and memorable finale to the T20 World Cup.

India vs South Africa: What If Rain Plays Spoilsport? What Will Happen?

June 29, 2024, 12:55 am

India is set to face South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday, 29 June, at Kensington Oval, Barbados. However, much like the semi-finals against England in Guyana, the final is expected to be heavily affected by rain. The International Cricket Council (ICC) had allocated 250 minutes of extra time for the semi-final due to the lack of a reserve day. For the final, the added time remains the same, meaning a full game can be played even after a 4-hour and 10-minute delay from the scheduled start time of 10:30 AM local time. In Indian Standard Time (IST), this implies that a full 20-over per side game can commence as late as 12:10 AM.

The ICC guidelines for the match emphasize finishing the game on Saturday itself, even if it is not a full 20-over match. The guidelines state: “If play is interrupted on the scheduled day, the umpires shall use the available extra time and, if necessary, reduce the number of overs to try to achieve a result on that day. The aim is to maximize play on the scheduled day of the match to achieve a result, as if there was no Reserve Day available.”

A minimum of 10 overs per side is required for a result. If the rain prevents play entirely, the match will be moved to Sunday, 30 June. According to ICC rules: “Each team must have had the opportunity to bat for a minimum of ten (10) overs for a result to be achieved. If play has not resumed by the cut-off time required to allow the minimum number of overs to be bowled, play shall be abandoned for the day, and the Reserve Day shall be used to either complete or replay the match.”

If the final is interrupted midway, the ICC can extend the match to the next day. A full game of 20 overs will occur if the match is stopped before the first ball of the second innings is bowled. If the second innings has started, DRS rules will apply. The ICC states: “If the Reserve Day is used to continue an incomplete match, play shall recommence under the assumption that the last ball was bowled on the scheduled day. The match starts when the coin toss takes place, and teams are exchanged. If the toss occurs on the scheduled day and there is no play thereafter, the result of the toss and the named teams shall be carried through to the Reserve Day.”

To illustrate, if a match starts at 20 overs per side and is interrupted at 9 overs, then overs are reduced to 17 overs per side. If play resumes but rains again before another ball is bowled, the match should continue the next day at the original 20 overs per side, reduced as necessary. If play resumes for an over and is then abandoned, the match continues the next day at 17 overs per side, reduced further if needed.

In conclusion, the ICC aims to complete the final on Saturday, even if rain curtails the match. However, if the weather does not cooperate, the match may shift to Sunday, 30 June, to ensure a fair and complete result.

“Rohit Sharma Ko Humein Batane Ki Zarurat Nahi…”: Ex Pakistan Captain Strikes Back at Rohit Sharma

June 28, 2024, 10:36 pm

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has sparked controversy by accusing Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh of “ball tampering” during the T20 World Cup 2024. Inzamam claimed that Arshdeep’s reverse swing, which was instrumental in India’s victory over Australia in the Super 8 stage, was a result of some “serious work on the ball”. In response, Indian captain Rohit Sharma dismissed these allegations, urging critics to “open their minds” and understand the playing conditions in sunny weather.

Inzamam hit back at Rohit’s remarks, asserting that Pakistan, which pioneered the art of reverse swing, does not need to be taught about it. He stated, “First thing is that he (Rohit) has admitted that it’s happening. So it means what we observed is correct. Second thing, Rohit Sharma ko humein batane ki zarurat nahi padni chahiye ke reverse swing kis tarah hota hai, kitni dhoop mei hota hai, kis pitch pe hota hai. Jo sikhane wale hain unko nahi yeh cheez sikhaya karte (there is no need for Rohit to tell us how reverse swing happens, under how much sun, on what pitch; you don’t teach something to someone who actually taught it to the world). Tell him it’s not right to talk these things,” said Inzamam on 24 News.

Rohit Sharma had previously addressed Inzamam’s accusations with a straightforward response, emphasizing the dry and sunny conditions in which the matches were being played. He explained that all teams were experiencing reverse swing and that it was crucial to understand the impact of local conditions, rather than jumping to conclusions. “Abhi kya jawab du iska mein bhai (what answer should I give, brother). Wickets are so dry (here) as you are playing in a sunny weather. All teams are getting reverse (swing). Sometimes dimaag ko kholna zaroori hai (Need to open your mind). You need to understand what the conditions are. This is not Australia or England. That’s what I will say,” Rohit remarked.

Despite the controversy, India advanced to the T20 World Cup 2024 final after a decisive victory over England, setting up a highly anticipated clash in the final.

T20 World Cup 2024: Virat Kohli to Score a Century in the Final? Ex England Star Predicts This…

June 28, 2024, 10:24 pm

Former England spinner Monty Panesar has backed the Indian team to end their ICC World Cup trophy drought and win the coveted T20 World Cup title. Panesar also made a bold prediction regarding Virat Kohli’s performance, stating that Kohli will score a century against South Africa in the final. “India will win the T20 World Cup final, and Virat Kohli will score 100,” Panesar told ANI.

Despite enjoying an impressive run with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2024, where he secured the Orange Cap by amassing 741 runs at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69, Kohli has struggled for form in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Opening alongside skipper Rohit Sharma, Kohli has managed just 75 runs at an average of 10.71 in seven matches.

Kohli momentarily showed signs of returning to form with a powerful six over mid-wicket off Reece Topley, but was soon dismissed by the English pacer. Despite his recent struggles, both Panesar and Rohit Sharma have expressed confidence in Kohli’s ability to shine in the final.

Rohit Sharma, speaking after India’s 68-run win over England in the semi-final, emphasized Kohli’s quality and importance in big games. “He (Kohli) is a quality player. Any player can go through that. We do understand his class, and we do understand his importance in all these big games. Form is never a problem. When you’ve played cricket for 15 years, form is never a problem. He’s looking good, the intent is there, and he’s probably saving for the final. Absolutely (backing Kohli for the final),” said Rohit.

As India prepares to face South Africa in the final, fans and experts alike are eager to see if Kohli can deliver a match-winning performance and help India lift the T20 World Cup trophy.

IND vs ENG: Key Factors Behind India’s T20 World Cup Final Berth After 10 Years

June 28, 2024, 6:09 am

New Delhi: India who won their first and only T20 World Cup title in 2007 have a chance of winning their second if they manage to beat South Africa in the final. But how did they surpass England? The key factors involve:

The Spin Twins: Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav

Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav ended up being the deciding factor of the match as they spun a web around the England batting lineup in the chase. They conceded 42 runs off their 8 overs and claimed 6 wickets which proved pivotal in India’s victory.

The Hit-Man Rohit Sharma

The captain led from the front and scored a scintillating half-century to propel India to an above-par total which ended up being too much for the English men.

The SKY Factor

The second-ranked batsman in the T20I rankings played a brilliant innings to provide much-needed support to the captain. With his, 47 off 36 India reached a score the bowlers could defend.

The Cameos

Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja played innings of 23 and 17 respectively with a skyrocketing strike rate which led to be the runs over the par score.

Match Review

The much anticipated India vs England Semi Final ended in India’s favour after several interruptions by England and Rain. After England won the toss and elected to bowl first, Rohit Sharma started his attack on a slow pitch which consumed Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant soon.

However, Rohit Sharma’s intent was clear, as he had his eyes set on the final against South Africa. He went on to dominate England’s attack with his gun shot-making in the powerplay along with some necessary precautions. Suryakumar Yadav provided support to Rohit with some exquisite shots and held the fort.

Soon after, he was dismissed by Jofra Archer which was followed by the arrival of Hardik Pandya. Hardik played a crucial cameo to help India’s momentum but eventually fell prey to Chris Jordan after two consecutive sixes. Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel provided the final touch to the innings, propelling India to 171-7.

In the innings break, Liam Livingstone in the interview said, “We have the firepower to chase this total.” However, as England’s innings started, Arshdeep and Bumrah bowled a couple of tight overs. As soon as Rohit introduced Axar Patel into the attack, he claimed the wicket of England captain Jos Buttler.

Jasprit Bumrah foxed Phil Salt, England’s top batter in recent T20 matches. After this, India spun a web with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav which led India to a dominant win over the current T20 World Cup champions in emphatic fashion.

What does this mean?

Now with South Africa looming in the final, who have never won the T20 World Cup are awaiting India. India will have to play their ‘A’ game to clinch the title after 2007. South Africa will be eager to win an ICC trophy for the first time. It means we are in for an exciting clash between the two powerhouses in the final.

India vs England Semi Final, T20 World Cup: England Captain Won the Toss and Elected to Bowl First

June 27, 2024, 9:06 pm

In the highly anticipated match, England’s Captain Jos Buttler called it right at the toss and has decided to bowl first.

The toss for the T20 World Cup semi-final match between India and England at the Providence Stadium in Guyana was delayed by 1 hour and 20 minutes due to rain. To accommodate potential further rain delays, an additional 250 minutes of playing time has been allotted to ensure the match can be completed.

There is no reserve day scheduled for this semi-final. If the match ends up being abandoned due to persistent rain, India will advance to the final based on their superior finish in the Super Eight stage.

The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, entered the World Cup semi-final with a convincing victory over Australia. This victory was pivotal as it led India to a rematch of the previous T20 World Cup Semi-Final against England.

India vs England Semi Final, T20 World Cup: Can ‘Kuldeep Yadav Factor’ Propel India to the Final?

June 27, 2024, 8:51 pm

Veteran India leg-spinner Piyush Chawla believes that left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav is in prime form and poised to make a significant impact in India’s T20 World Cup semifinal clash against England at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday night. After missing the Group A matches due to pace-friendly conditions in New York, Kuldeep has emerged as a key player in the Super Eights, claiming seven wickets at an average of 10.71 and an economy rate of just 6.25 in the Caribbean.

With Guyana’s pitch expected to assist spinners, Kuldeep’s ability to vary his pace, use the crease effectively, and bamboozle batters with his subtle variations makes him a crucial asset for India. Chawla highlighted Kuldeep’s resurgence as one of the greatest comebacks in Indian cricket, noting his unorthodox left-arm wrist spin and deceptive variations as potential game-changers in the middle overs.

Kuldeep has a solid track record against England, including memorable performances like his six-wicket haul in the Nottingham ODI and a five-wicket haul in the Manchester T20I in 2018. More recently, he took a five-fer in the final Test at Dharamshala during a series win against England. He also has a good record against England captain Jos Buttler, having dismissed him three times in T20s, including during the IPL 2024 when he trapped Buttler lbw on a reverse-sweep.

Chawla emphasized Kuldeep’s importance in disrupting England’s aggressive batting approach in the semi-final, predicting that his current form and confidence make him a significant threat capable of making the middle overs challenging for England’s batsmen.

On the other side, England’s leg-spinner Adil Rashid is expected to play a pivotal role in controlling the middle overs. In the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against India, Rashid’s spell of 1-20 in four overs, including dismissing an in-form Suryakumar Yadav, was instrumental in England’s ten-wicket victory. Rashid has continued to be effective in the ongoing tournament, picking up nine wickets with his precise control over pace and variations.

Chawla noted that Rashid’s ability to maintain discipline, apply pressure, and break partnerships in the middle overs will be crucial for England. His knack for delivering impactful spells that control the run flow and provide timely breakthroughs could be key to England’s success against India.

As the two teams prepare for this highly anticipated semi-final clash, the performances of Kuldeep Yadav and Adil Rashid in the middle overs could be decisive in determining the outcome of the match.
