Swara Bhasker Accuses X of Censoring Her Account Over Republic Day Wish

Actor Swara Bhasker took to Instagram to express her irritation against X after the social media site permanently suspended her account, claiming copyright violation. She alleged that, in particular, two of her tweets, including a Republic Day greeting, were reported for copyright infringement, which ultimately led to her account’s permanent suspension.

Swara Bhasker shared some screenshots on Instagram of X sending her two notices on the account stating that two of her posts were violating the copyright. “(You can’t make this stuff up!!!!) Dear X, Two images from two tweets have been marked as ‘copyright infringements.’ Basis which my X account is locked / disabled, I can’t access it and permanent suspension has been approved by your teams,” Bhasker wrote.

Swara Questions Copyright Infringement on Posts

The actor elaborated on posts that were to lead to suspension, starting with the post containing one of the common slogans in Hindi, “Gandhi Hum Sharmindaa hain, Tere qaatil zinda hain,” most commonly understood to be an expression of the progressive movement in India. Bhasker strongly defended the tweet, saying “There is no copyright violation. It is akin to urban modern folk idiom.”

The second post, which featured an image of her daughter who had a blurred face also reported copyright issues. In this post, Bhasker pointed out the common sense behind that violation, remarking, “The second photo marked as being in violation is a photo of MY child with her face blurred waving the Indian flag with writing ‘HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY India’. How is this possibly some kind of copyright infringement??? Who has a copyright on my child’s likeness????”

Swara concluded that these actions were part of a larger effort to suppress her freedom of expression. “If these tweets have been mass reported they are aimed to harass the user I.e. myself and are aimed at suppressing my freedom of speech and expression,” she wrote. “Kindly review and reverse your decision. Swara Bhaskar starrer ‘Jahaan Chaar Yaar’ to release on 16 September

The makers of ‘Jahaan Chaar Yaar’ on Thursday unveiled the first look of the Swara Bhaskar, Shikha Talsania, Meher Vij, and Pooja Chopra. Swara Bhaskar starrer movie will release on 16 September.

The movie ‘Jahaan Chaar Yaar; narrates the journey of four married friends who set off to Goa. To solace from their ordinary lives and find themselves in “an extraordinary adventure” they go to Goa.

Taking to Twitter Swara Bhaskar shared the film poster. “Why should guys have all the fun? The most fun and adventurous trip this year with my girl gang,” Bhaskar wrote.

MUMBAI: Actress Swara Bhasker is grateful for the emergence of OTT platforms, and says she cannot imagine how one would have survived the pandemic without the digital platforms.

This year, Swara delivered back-to-back releases in the OTT space, portraying a sensuous teacher in Rasbhari, a police officer in Flesh, and a runaway bride-turned stand-up comic in Bhaag Beanie Bhaag.

“This year has been a creatively exciting and fulfilling period workwise, having seen the back-to-back release of three series on streaming platforms. The overwhelming reception in this format has been wonderful,” Swara said.

“It’s been a strangely blessed year where despite the pandemic I’ve seen such success and warmth from the audiences… I’m grateful for the emergence of OTT platforms—I cannot imagine how we would have survived the pandemic without the Internet and digital platforms,” she added.
