He blamed TMC’s appeasement politics, while BSF and police were deployed to restore peace. Court seeks detailed reports from both governments.
</excerpt>

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari accused more than 400 Hindus from West Bengal’s Murshidabad district town Dhulian of being ‘driven out’ after violent strife connected to the Waqf (Amendment) Act. Adhikari blamed ‘religiously motivated bigots’ for causing the displacement, accusing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of facilitating such by its ‘appeasement politics’.

On an X post, Adhikari had said, “Over 400 Hindus from Dhulian, Murshidabad fearing religiously motivated bigots were compelled to evacuate en masse across the river & find refuge at Par Lalpur High School, Deonapur-Sovapur GP, Baisnabnagar, Malda.” He also posted photos and videos, although their validity couldn’t be verified independently by TDG.

More than 400 Hindus from Dhulian, Murshidabad driven by fear of religiously driven bigots were forced to flee across the river & take shelter at Par Lalpur High School, Deonapur-Sovapur GP, Baisnabnagar, Malda.

Religious persecution in Bengal is real.

Appeasement politics of… pic.twitter.com/gZFuanOT4N

— Suvendu Adhikari (@SuvenduWB) April 13, 2025

Eyewitness Accounts

A man in the video posted by Adhikari said his home was torched and accused police of running away from the site rather than intervening. Asking for immediate protection, Adhikari asked the BSF, district police, and administration to move in. “I request the Central Paramilitary Forces stationed in the District, the State Police and district administration to facilitate the safe return of these Hindus displaced & safeguard their lives from this jihad terror. Bengal is on fire. The social fabric is disintegrating. Enough is enough,” he tweeted.

Aftermath of the Waqf Protest

Three individuals lost their lives in the violence on Friday evening, according to West Bengal Police. Some cars were set ablaze, and the situation has been reportedly controlled. The trouble was caused by protests against the Waqf Act, which led to tensions within the district.

TMC’s Role Under Scrutiny

Adhikari severely condemned the Mamata Banerjee government, stating, “Religious persecution in Bengal is real. Appeasement politics of TMC has emboldened radical elements. Hindus are being hunted, our people are running for their lives in their own land! Shame on the State Govt for allowing this breakdown of law & order.”

BJP’s Spokesperson Accuses TMC

Echoing Adhikari’s sentiments, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the TMC government of facilitating communal violence. “This is state-sponsored, state-protected, State-encouraged targeted violence against Hindus,” he said. He also claimed that temples were vandalized, idols demolished, and saffron flags removed. “Hindus are being forced to migrate. Hindu houses are being set on fire… Mamata Banerjee should be ashamed that she is still engaged in appeasement,” he added.

Legal Intervention

The Calcutta High Court issued the directive to deploy central forces immediately in response to the unrest. IG South Bengal Frontier Karni Singh Shekhawat has confirmed sending five BSF companies to support state police. “We are here to assist the police, not for independent action,” Shekhawat stated. “We expect peace to return here soon.”

The court also asked the state and central governments to file detailed reports on the condition, and the next hearing was set for April 17.

</excerpt>

The Central intelligence agencies have alerted the West Bengal government of a possible terror attack on the BJP’s leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. Based on the input, the state security apparatus has also circulated an alert to all its constituents. Adhikari is entitled to Z-category security.

According to sources in the state police, the intelligence agencies mentioned the fundamentalist outfits based in Bangladesh planned to attack Adhikari as he has been vocal against the atrocities and violence on the minorities residing in Bangladesh.

Speaking to reporters, Adhikari said the people of West Bengal were his biggest security.

“I am not bothered if anyone has issued any threat on my life. I am in public life and will continue to speak on issues affecting the people, including the attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh,” he said.

“People of West Bengal are my biggest security. They will protect me. If I am with the people, among people, on the side of people, there is no reason I should be concerned about any threat,” he added.

On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party state president and MoS Sukanta Majumdar slammed the State Government after several terrorists were arrested from West Bengal.

Majumdar alleged that the Trinamool Congress Government has turned the State into a safe haven for jihadi elements from Bangladesh’.

Suvendu Adhikari said he was not bothered about any threat to his life from Bangladesh-based terror groups, asserting that people of his state would protect him in case of any eventuality.

Indian agencies received inputs that the BJP leader was being targeted by Jamaat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh and Hizb-ul-Tahrir for his recent statements on atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh.

Adhikari had earlier said that if the alleged atrocities continued he would lead sit-in demonstrations at the India-Bangladesh border and prevent export of goods. Speaking about the terror threat, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said: “I wish for Suvendu Adhikari Ji to stay safe and healthy. He has Z category central security and if someone is coming from across the border, it is the responsibility of the central government. It is the responsibility of the BSF to protect the border, which is under Amit Shah Ji.”

This development comes following the arrest of three terror suspects from various parts of West Bengal recently by the state police’s Special Task Force.

The arrests have also started a fresh war of words between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Opposition BJP.

On December 22, Javed Munshi, a suspected operative of the banned Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen, was apprehended during a coordinated raid by the Jammu and Kashmir police and Bengal STF in Canning, South 24 Parganas. A Kolkata court gave the J&K police his transit remand till December 31.

Munshi’s arrest follows the recent detention of two alleged terror operatives of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), a Bangladeshi militant group, in Murshidabad. The suspects were rounded up during a joint operation with the Assam police. They have been identified as Minarul Sheikh and Muhammad Abbas Ali. Eight alleged ABT operatives were also detained as part of the broader operation. All the accused have since been produced before a court in Assam.
The developments have triggered blame-game between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP over law and order in the State and border infiltration from Bangladesh.

Kolkata mayor and senior Trinamool Congress leader Firhad Hakim emphasised on the proactive efforts of the police under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership and the “zero tolerance” for extremism.

“It is the Union Home Ministry’s responsibility to strengthen the Border Security Force and prevent trespassing,” Hakim stated, shifting accountability to the Central Government.

BJP leader Amit Malviya alleged that the ABT suspects arrested possessed voter ID cards from the Kandi and Hariharpara Assembly constituencies in Murshidabad. “This incident is merely the tip of the iceberg,” Malviya claimed on social media. “Illegal infiltrators securing voting rights have become an integral part of the TMC’s voter base, ensuring their sustained grip on power.”

</excerpt>

West Bengal Assembly Leader of the Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari announced on Tuesday that BJP MLAs would march to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission at 3 pm tomorrow to protest the arrest of ISKCON Bangladesh priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari by Dhaka police.

Speaking to ANI, Adhikari stated, “Tomorrow there will be an agitation in all the areas… 3 pm BJP MLA will march to Deputy High Commission… Day after tomorrow, Hindu Jagran Manch has given a call for a march from Sealdah station to the Deputy High Commission. On next Monday, the Bangladesh border will be sealed by Hindus near Petrapole. I will be present there. Everything will be closed; there is no question of export-import.”

Adhikari made this statement while leading a protest march in Behala against Chinmoy Krishna Das’s arrest. Earlier in the day, he and his party members also staged a demonstration outside the Legislative Assembly demanding the release of the ISKCON leader.

Chinmoy Krishna Das, arrested on Monday, appeared before the Chittagong Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. Judge Kazi Shariful Islam rejected his bail plea, ordering him to be sent to custody.

According to The Dhaka Tribune, Chinmoy Krishna Das was accused of sedition for allegedly raising a flag on a stand bearing Bangladesh’s national flag. Despite the initial charges, the complainant has since expressed unwillingness to proceed with the case, according to a minority leader.

The Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC), the largest minority group in Bangladesh, voiced strong concerns over the arrest and called for Chinmoy Krishna Das’s immediate release.

“We strongly condemn the arrest of Prabhu Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, from the Dhaka airport area on Monday afternoon,” said Manindra Kumar Nath, Acting General Secretary of BHBCUC.

Speaking to ANI, Nath added, “As a result of this arrest, Bangladesh’s international image of freedom of expression and human rights will be tarnished globally.”

</excerpt>

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, denounced the alleged police action against upper primary teacher candidates protesting the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) over delays in the appointment process.

In a post on X, Adhikari stated that the protesting candidates were heading towards the SSC office to demand answers on why the Commission was delaying appointments despite a directive from the Calcutta High Court. “I strongly condemn the atrocious action of the police on the Upper Primary Candidates who were going towards the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) seeking answers, why the SSC is deliberately wasting time regarding the appointment process after Calcutta High Court directed the SSC to complete the appointment process for the candidates as Assistant Teachers in State Govt sponsored and aided Upper Primary Schools within 12 weeks,” Adhikari wrote on X.

He further expressed support for the protesters’ demands, noting, “They have been agitating for a decade. I support their valid demand for immediate counselling and completion of the recruitment process within the stipulated time period.”

Earlier in the day, police detained several upper primary teacher candidates who were demonstrating in Kolkata’s Salt Lake area.

In a related development, the Kolkata High Court directed the release of the appointment list for upper primary teachers, a decision that could benefit around 14,000 candidates. The ruling, issued by a division bench of Justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Parthasarathi Chattopadhyay, instructs the SSC to publish the final list within four weeks, after which counselling will be held.

This court decision is expected to address a nine-year-old issue concerning teacher appointments. According to lawyer Firdaus Shamim, the SSC had previously invalidated the selection of 1,463 candidates due to errors in “updated interview OMR seats.” The court has now ordered these candidates to be reinstated on the merit list, alongside counselling for the 14,052 candidates currently listed. The court also ruled that the Commission’s previous merit list was incorrect.

Nearly two months after the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, new allegations have surfaced. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has accused a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader of pressuring the forensic team to rush the autopsy process on the day of the incident.

Claims of Autopsy Interference by TMC Leader

On Monday, Adhikari shared a video featuring a forensic medicine expert who claimed that a former councillor, identifying himself as a distant relative of the deceased, urged the forensic team to expedite the postmortem and complete it the same day. This forensic expert, who was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its ongoing investigation, made the revelation while leaving the CGO Complex on Sunday.

— Suvendu Adhikari (@SuvenduWB) September 23, 2024

Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, identified the person involved as Sanjib Mukherjee, a former CPIM councillor of Panihati Municipality who later joined TMC. “The individual is Sanjib Mukherjee, now a close associate of Panihati TMC MLA Nirmal Ghosh,” Adhikari wrote in a social media post.

Concerns Over the Hasty Cremation

Adhikari raised concerns over the rushed cremation of the victim. He alleged that Mukherjee, despite not being a family member, signed the cremation certificate. “Everyone knows the victim was cremated in haste. The police were overseeing the process at the crematorium, and there was an unusual urgency to dispose of the body,” he claimed.

Furthermore, Adhikari pointed out the presence of another signatory on the cremation certificate, Somenath Dey, who shares the same name as a former TMC councillor. Adhikari questioned if it was the same individual involved in the cremation process.

The trainee doctor’s father had also voiced his concerns, stating that his daughter’s body was cremated without proper delay. The CBI has alleged that Abhijit Mondol, the former officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, was complicit in rushing the cremation, despite the family’s request for a second autopsy.

Allegations Against TMC MLA Nirmal Ghosh

Adhikari also alleged that Panihati MLA Nirmal Ghosh was involved in hastening the cremation process, reportedly acting “on the instructions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.” Ghosh was interrogated by the CBI in connection with the case on Monday.

A CBI officer stated that Ghosh played a significant role in organizing the quick final rites of the deceased doctor. Ghosh appeared at the CBI’s CGO Complex office in Salt Lake at 10:30 am on Monday, where he was questioned regarding his involvement in the incident at RG Kar hospital.

Case Background: Nationwide Outrage

The body of the postgraduate trainee doctor was found with severe injuries in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, sparking nationwide outrage. The incident led to protests and a cease-work movement by junior doctors across the country. So far, three individuals, including the former principal of the hospital, have been arrested in connection with the case. The CBI continues its investigation into the matter.

</excerpt>

West Bengal Speaker Biman Banerjee on Wednesday ordered an investigation after Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and BJP MLA from Nandigram, alleged that a Trinamool Congress MLA tried to assault him inside the Assembly premises.
According to BJP sources, after a question-answer session in the House, there was an altercation between the Leader of Opposition and the MLA of Purbasthali, Tapan Chatterjee at the Assembly lobby.
In his letter, Adhikari wrote: “Today at about 12.20 p.m. while I was interacting with some reporters at the lower lobby, Trinamool Congress MLA of Purbasthali, Tapan Chatterjee approached me in an aggressive manner. Without any instigation or argument, he kept on using abusive language towards me and his body language indicated that his intention was to assault me. I felt insecure inside the Assembly precincts.”
He further wrote: “This is the second time we were threatened by the ruling partymembers. They are taking advantage because of the absence of personal security allotted to us inside Assembly precincts. You prevented them from entering the Assembly premises.”
“As a custodian of the House, you will be responsible if any untoward incident occurs inside the Assembly precincts. I request you to take appropriate action against the MLA,” the BJP leader stated in his letter to the Speaker.
“The lawlessness across West Bengal seems to have trickled inside the WB Legislative Assembly as well. If the Opposition MLAs are not safe inside the Assembly premises, think about the plight of Opposition political workers in the State of West Bengal,” the BJP leader wrote on X.
In his defence, Tapan Chatterjee said: “During the Lok Sabha election campaign, Suvendu Adhikari lied about my daughter’s school job and said that I have two flats in Kolkata. I asked him why he said so and that I don’t know where my Kolkata flat is. So, he should give me the key to the flat. When I said that, he got angry.”
In another post later on social media platform X , Adhikari wrote: “I have submitted a letter to the Hon’ble Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly citing the incident which compromised my security inside the Assembly precincts. This incident certainly calls for a review of the previous order which bars the entry of Central Security Forces inside the Assembly.
“If the Opposition MLAs are not safe inside the Assembly premises, then think about the plight of Opposition political workers in the State of West Bengal,” the Leader of the Opposition said.

</excerpt>

Senior Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari attributed the party’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha polls to a lack of support from minorities in the state. Addressing the BJP’s state executive committee meeting, Adhikari suggested scrapping the party’s Minority Morcha and moving away from the motto ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’.

New Motto Proposed

Adhikari proposed a new motto for the party: ‘Hum unke saath jo hamare saath’ (we are with those who are with us). He emphasized that the BJP should focus on supporting those who support the party, rather than trying to win over minority communities.

Clarification of Remarks

Following backlash, Adhikari clarified his statement, insisting that his words were taken out of context. He stated that the party should support nationalist individuals who stand for the nation and Bengal. He also mentioned that the party should not divide people into majority and minority groups, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas’.

Minority Electorate in West Bengal

Minorities make up nearly 30% of the electorate in West Bengal. Adhikari’s remarks come in the context of the BJP’s slogan evolution, from ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ in 2014 to ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ in 2019.

Accusations Against TMC

Adhikari claimed that during the recent Lok Sabha polls, Hindus were prevented from voting by “Jihadi goons of the TMC” in many areas. He asserted that free and fair elections are not possible in West Bengal without implementing the Disturbed Areas Act. He emphasized that the BJP does not seek to gain power through the President’s Rule but aims to win elections with a fair mandate.

TMC’s Victory and BJP’s Losses

The remarks from Adhikari come shortly after the BJP lost by-polls in three assembly seats, all of which were won by Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC). In the recent Lok Sabha polls, TMC secured 29 seats, while the BJP won just 12 seats.

TMC’s Response

Reacting to Adhikari’s remarks, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh accused the BJP of making excuses to placate their cadre base following the Lok Sabha defeat. Ghosh suggested that the BJP’s internal strategy and leadership were the primary reasons for their poor performance, rather than external factors.

</excerpt>

Amidst the fervour of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, made his mark by casting his vote at a polling station nestled in the heart of Nandigram, West Bengal, on Saturday. As the nation witnesses the sixth phase of polling unfurl across 58 parliamentary constituencies, spanning six states and two Union Territories, Adhikari’s participation underscored the essence of democratic responsibility and civic duty. Expressing his unwavering support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and vision for a developed India, Adhikari remarked, “I have cast my vote today for Narendra Modi, for Viksit Bharat, for a strong India.”

In addition to endorsing Modi’s leadership, Adhikari vocally supported Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tamluk candidate, Justice Abhijit Ganguly, lauding his relentless pursuit of justice and development. “I have cast my vote for Justice Abhijit Ganguly, the one who has been selected as the candidate from here by Narendra Modi and whose action led to the imprisonment of several thieves,” Adhikari proudly declared. His endorsement of Ganguly’s candidacy emphasized the importance of integrity and accountability in political representation.

Anticipating substantial development under Ganguly’s leadership, Adhikari expressed confidence in the BJP candidate’s ability to spearhead progress in the Tamluk constituency. “I believe that Narendra Modi will be the Prime Minister for the third time winning more than 400 seats and Justice Ganguly will win from here,” Adhikari asserted confidently. He emphasized that while some developmental work had already commenced, there remained ample opportunities for transformative growth initiatives in the region.

As the democratic process unfolded, voters across various constituencies in West Bengal participated enthusiastically. The state witnessed a significant voter turnout, reaching 36.88 percent by mid-morning, as reported by the Election Commission. The sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections encompassed constituencies across Bihar, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Delhi, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, with a total of 889 candidates vying for electoral victory. In the backdrop of heightened political fervor and anticipation, Adhikari’s participation symbolized the essence of democracy, urging citizens to exercise their franchise judiciously for the collective progress and prosperity of the nation.

</excerpt>

Sheikh Shahjahan of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) was placed under 10-day police custody on Thursday by West Bengal’s Basirhat Court.

Lawyer Raja Bhowmick, who represented Shahjahan in court, said, “14-day police custody (of Sheikh Shahjahan) was demanded, but the court allowed 10-day custody.”

“On March 10, he will be produced in court again,” Bhowmick added.

In relation to an alleged assault on ED officers during a raid in January of this year, Shahjahan was taken into custody by West Bengal police on Thursday morning.

Shahjahan’s arrest was described as an “eye-opener” by West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, who also noted that it is just the “beginning.”

“Today in Bengal, we see the beginning of an end. The arrest of the prime accused in the Sandeshkhali incidents is an eye-opener for everyone. This is only the beginning. We have to put an end to violence in Bengal,” Ananda Bose said.

“In many pockets of Bengal, we all realise that gangsters are ruling unchecked by law enforcement agencies. What we see is only the tip of the iceberg. ‘Gundaraj’ is very much there in many pockets of Bengal. Strong action has to be taken. This has to be nipped in the bud,” he added.

He went on to say that thoughtful measures have to be taken to stop similar occurrences in the future.

“We have to wait. In democratic governance, we have to wait for justice to be done. If any lapses have taken place from the government or any other authority, we still have time to look into that,” the governor said.

“Now, what is required is a considerate action to see that these kinds of things do not happen in future. Action has to be taken against a particular culprit who has been apprehended. My suggestion for all the gangsters is – treat this as an occasion to surrender, otherwise, preventive action has to be taken,” he added.

For more than a month, Shahjahan has been evading arrest by both state and central agencies.

Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition, claimed that the arrest was ‘a mutual adjustment’.

“This is not an arrest, this is a mutual adjustment. Unless the central agencies take him into their custody, the people there won’t get justice. He will get five-star facilities in jail. He will use his mobile phone inside and control the area from there,” the LoP said while speaking to reporters while on the way to Sandeshkhali on Thursday.

Sandeshkhali, in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, saw widespread protests against TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh this month as a section of women were seeking justice against alleged atrocities committed by the TMC leader.

Shajahan Sheikh and his close associates were accused by a significant number of women in Sandeshkhali of “land-grab and sexual assault” under coercion.

</excerpt>

The West Bengal Police reported that BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari directed a ‘Khalistani’ slur at a Sikh police officer. The West Bengal Police condemned this comment, deeming it malicious, racially inflammatory, and a criminal act. The police fraternity expressed outrage, stating, “We unequivocally condemn the unprovoked, unacceptable attack on an individual’s religious identity and beliefs aimed to incite people to take to violence and break the law.” Stern legal action is being initiated in response.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly criticized the incident, accusing the BJP of divisive politics overstepping constitutional boundaries. She vehemently condemned the attempt to undermine the reputation of Sikh individuals and pledged to protect Bengal’s social harmony.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also condemned the incident, stating that BJP’s hatred has blinded them to the extent that they can neither see a farmer, a soldier, nor respect an officer in khaki. He asserted, “The nation stands with IPS Jaspreet Singh,” the targeted police officer.

The incident occurred during the deployment of a police force to enforce Section 144 in Dhamakhali. Subhendu Adhikari, West Bengal Opposition Leader, allegedly referred to IPS Jaspreet Singh as a Khalistani during an altercation. The West Bengal Police plans to take legal action against Adhikari for this serious comment.

The Sandeshkhali area has been witnessing unrest, with women protestors seeking justice against alleged atrocities committed by TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his aides. The arrest of a journalist associated with Republic TV in Sandeshkhali has raised concerns, leading to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issuing a notice to the West Bengal Director General of Police.

Shajahan Sheikh, accused of land-grab and sexual assault, has been absconding since a mob, allegedly affiliated with him, attacked Enforcement Directorate officials. Two TMC leaders, Shiba Prasad Hazra and Uttam Sardar, have been arrested on charges of gangrape and attempt to murder.

LoP Adhikari, after the suspension, asserted, “BJP will continue to raise its voice for the respect of women.” The suspension motion was moved by Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs of West Bengal, and passed by the House Speaker.

The Sandeshkhali region of West Bengal recently witnessed an incident where agitated villagers set fire to the poultry farm owned by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shivprasad Hazra. The villagers, especially women, protested against TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh, alleging his involvement in a land ration allotment scam. The locals claimed that Hazra took over their land against their will, leading to their agitation. Despite a significant police presence, the villagers set fire to Shivprasad Hazra’s poultry farm.

West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that, as a woman, she had failed to protect ST women in the Sandeshkhali violence. Majumdar stated, “The reports of violence and rape cases in Sandeshkhali show that TMC leaders Shahjahan Sheikh and Shiv Prasad Hazra have established their aristocratic rule and inflicted pain on women from the ST caste. Being a woman, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has failed to protect women in Sandeshkhali.”

Earlier Adhikari said, Abhishek Banerjee’s son’s birthday party was organized at a five-star hotel in Kolkata in which huge security forces had been deployed. Abhishek Banerjee is Trinamool Congress, national general secretary.

“He is blatantly lying about Abhishek’s child’s birthday. There was not any birthday party at the venue, but Abhishek Banerjee being the Chief Patron of Diamond Harbor Football Club met and interacted with DHFC football players at Taj Hotel for the unique achievement in the Premier Division of the Calcutta Football League in its very first season,” Ghosh said.

“We will send him ‘get well soon’ from tomorrow,’ Ghosh stated.

In another tweet, Adhikari said, for such arrangements, no formal order was issued.

“Formal order hasn’t been issued for such Security Movement. ‘Mamata Police’ Officer; Jamal has been tasked to make the Security foolproof. Lady Kim’s family is following the footsteps of the Real Kim Jong-un of North Korea, at times beating him when it comes to grandeur & luxury,” Adhikari tweeted.

At a recent event, Trinamool Congress politician Akhil Giri made disparaging statements about President Droupadi Murmu, according to a complaint lodged by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Locket Chatterjee at the North Avenue police station on Sunday.

Under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) Act, Chatterjee has asked for prompt action and a FIR against Giri. She claimed that Mamata Banerjee ought to sack Giri and personally express her regret to President Murmu.

After filing FIR, Chattarjee said speaking to reports, “Mamata Banerjee should give a statement. Akhil Giri is a minister in her government, she should sack him immediately. She should come to Delhi and apologize. They may say a lot about the SC-ST community in public but this is the actual sentiment of their ministers.”

The objectionable remarks were allegedly made by Akhil Giri against the President of India on Friday while talking about West Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari. This happened after an incident of unrest in the BJP leader’s Nandigram constituency over the martyr’s day event.

However, West Bengal Minister and TMC politician Akhil Giri on Saturday apologised for his statement against the President of India Droupadi Murmu after receiving harsh condemnation from both the opposition and his own party the day before.

“He (Suvendu Adhikari) says I am not good-looking. How beautiful you are! We don’t judge anyone by their appearance, we respect the office of the President of India. But how does our President look?” Giri had said while hitting out at Suvendu Adhikari.

Giri apologised on Saturday, saying he was sorry and regretted what he had said and that he still respected the Indian Constitution and the office of President.

“I said, President. Didn’t take anyone’s name. If the President of India feels insulted about it, then I am sorry and regret what I said,” the TMC leader said in a statement.
Giri said that he does not regret BJP’s reaction to his remarks.
“I don’t regret how BJP will react to this. I am not concerned about BJP. My reaction was for Suvendu Adhikari,” he claimed.

“I am also part of the Constitution. I have taken an oath and become a minister. He (Suvendu Adhikari) insulted me and said that I look like a crow. He called me a half-pant minister. This is also an insult to me. Calling me half-pant minister is insulting the whole minister panel,” he said.

A number of BJP and TMC officials attacked Akhil Giri for his statements. Leaders of the BJP’s West Bengal branch said that the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC administration was “anti-tribal.”

On Saturday, the tribal affairs minister for the BJP also denounced Giri’s comments and demanded that Mamata Banerjee fire the minister for disrespecting the Indian president.

“They (TMC) find it difficult to accept that an Indian tribal woman is now the country’s president. BJP condemns this vehemently. We’ll see to it that he’s caught (TMC leader Akhil Giri), “said the Union Minister.

Bhartiya Janta Party MLA from West Bengal Suvendu Adhikari wrote a letter to the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal, saying that West Bengal Mamata Banerjee “befooling people by renaming the schemes ‘already’ launched by Central Government”.

On the Mamata Banerjee’s Festive Schemes Suvendu slammed CM Banerjee and wrote, “I would like to draw your kind attention towards a specific publicity material published and displayed by the Department of Food & Supplies: West Bengal Government. This poster, a copy of which has duly been annexed herewith. provides information about a ‘Festive Scheme’ made available to the AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana) & SPHH (State Priority Ration Card) Ration Card holders for a limited time period starting from 23rd September 2022 till 30th October 2022.”

“The message which is being circulated by the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Department of Food & Supplies; West Bengal Government on the occasion of Sharod-Utsav (Durga Pooja), Kaali Puja, Deepawali, and Chhath Puja is being promoted as a part of the now defunct ‘Duare Ration’ scheme & so-called (non-existent) ‘Khadya Sethi’ scheme”, the letter stated.

Meanwhile, Suvendu added, “The Duare Ration (doorstep delivery of ration) scheme has always been in trouble since a was launched A vast majority of the Ration Dealers (distributors) objected to it and labeled it as impractical.”

Moreover, concluding the letter Suvendu wrote, “On the other hand, the Khadya Sathi scheme is lust another infamous ‘Sticker Scheme’ of the Mamata Banerjee Government. You (Piyush Goyal) must be aware that the West Bengal Government has been engaging in renaming the Central Government schemes to befool the general public into believing that the schemes are being provided by the State Government in order to claim credit for the benefits which are being provided by the Central Government. So. Khadya Sathi, is nothing but a label placed on the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.”

However, the poster claims the food items that are being offered are being provided by the Central Government and not by the state government.

Furthermore, Suvendu Adhikari in his letter also urged to take note of this ‘unscrupulous’ act and seek answers from the West Bengal Government.

NEW DELHI: Once a trusted lieutenant of TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Suvendu Adhikari is likely to join the BJP on Saturday. If sources within the BJP and close to Adhikari are to be believed, the road for Adhikari’s formal induction into the party has been cleared and he is all set to join the BJP in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Amit Shah would be visiting the East Midnapore district on Saturday. It is believed that Shah, who was earlier scheduled to visit Bongaon during his two days visit to West Bengal on the 19 and 20 December, has re-scheduled to visit East Midnapore to formally induct Adhikari into the party.

He resigned as the MLA from the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Thursday. Adhikari had earlier resigned as the Minister from the Mamata Banerjee government. He is likely to bring a dozen MLAs along with him to the BJP. But sources close to Adhikari and the BJP say that the joining of the MLAs, that are likely to come with Adhikari, might not happen on Saturday itself but many would follow suit subsequently.

Sources aware of the development also say that Adhikari’s father Shishir Adhikari who is a TMC MP and president of TMC’s Midnapore district is also likely to quit the party soon. While Adhikari’s younger brother, who is also a TMC MP, could also follow the footsteps of his brother.

In the meantime, multiple TMC leaders have openly expressed their support for Adhikari in West Bengal and have put the TMC in a tough spot.

Political observers from West Bengal say that his exit from the TMC at the eleventh hour, just before the elections, could in a way cost the TMC heavily in the upcoming State Assembly polls.

Adhikari, considered as the architect of the Nandigram movement in West Bengal which eventually led to the fall of the 34-year Left rule in the state in 2011, is currently at loggerheads with Mamata Banerjee.

Ever since then, he is believed to have a strong influence in the Midnapore area of West Bengal, and according to locals from the East and West Midnapore, which has four Lok Sabha seats and 30 Assembly seats combined, Adhikari’s influence rules the roost. He is believed to be managing the elections for the TMC in these two districts ever since the party’s inception.

Adhikari is also believed to have a strong influence in the neighbouring districts of Jhargram, Purulia and Bankura where he enjoys strong support from the local electorates. These three districts combined have over 19 Assembly seats.
