President Trump confirmed the strikes, stating key facilities were “completely obliterated” using bunker-buster bombs and 30 Tomahawk missiles.
</excerpt>

In an unusual and daring military action, the United States conducted airstrikes early Sunday against Iran’s nuclear facilities with precision B-2 stealth bombers and bunker-buster bombs.

President Donald Trump, announcing the operation moments after it came to an end, said that bombers were employed to attack three strategic nuclear sites; Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. “The American jets were safely on their way home,” he added, confirming that a complete load of bombs was dropped on the targets, including Fordow.

In a report by The New York Times quoting US officials, the B-2 bombers took off from a Missouri airbase, flew more than 11,400 miles to cover the distance to Iran, and returned after flying a non-stop 37-hour round trip. The aircraft refueled several times in mid-air for the operation.

The US Air Force employed six bunker-buster bombs on the buried Fordow plant, while 30 Tomahawk missiles hit the Natanz and Esfahan targets. Trump said in a media briefing that “Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities were completely obliterated” and made a warning: further action will be taken if Iran didn’t seek peace.

What Makes the B-2 Stealth Bomber So Critical?

The B-2 Spirit is one of the most technologically advanced and survivable aircraft in the US Air Force inventory. The aircraft, noted for its stealth technology, is engineered to avoid the most advanced enemy air defenses and strike at all altitudes.

The US military, says Fox News, sent six bunker-buster bombs to specifically knock out the Fordow facility. The B-2 is at present the sole aircraft in the American inventory which can deliver the Massive Ordnance Penetrator, a weapon meant to wipe out targets buried deep. With its cutting-edge design and technology, it can serve as a decisive player in missions that demand deep penetration and high accuracy.

President Zelenskyy urged global sanctions, while another attack injured 17 in Kharkiv, escalating pressure on Russia amid stalled peace talks.
</excerpt>

A Russian drone bombing of the northern Ukrainian city of Pryluky in the early hours of Thursday killed at least five individuals, including a one-year-old boy, his mother, and grandmother, Ukrainian authorities reported.

The attack happened during about 5:30 a.m. local time, when six drones attacked a residential area. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the dead child was the grandson of a rescue worker. “One of the rescuers came to respond to the consequences exactly at his own residence,” Zelenskyy posted on Telegram. “It turned out a Shahed drone struck his house.”

Official sources announced six other individuals were hurt in the attack and are undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The crippling attack occurred hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke over the phone to former U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump alleged Putin threatened that Russia would “retaliate strongly” over Ukraine’s recent drone attacks on Russian airbases.

Pryluky, a city approximately 100 kilometers to the east of Kyiv, with around 50,000 inhabitants prior to the conflict, is well away from the front lines and does not have any reported military installations.

In his declaration, Zelenskyy pointed out that 103 drones and one ballistic missile hit different regions of Ukraine during the night, including Donetsk, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Chernihiv, Dnipro, and Kherson. “It is another mass strike,” he mentioned. “It is another reason to impose the strongest possible sanctions and exert pressure collectively.”

Zelenskyy, who recently signed on to a U.S.-supported ceasefire proposal and indicated he was willing to sit down with Putin in an effort to revive stalled talks, has been calling on the international community to ramp up sanctions against Russia. The Kremlin, however, has remained unresponsive to overtures or compromise, with Putin said to be unwilling to sit down with Zelenskyy.

Persistent U.S. diplomatic efforts have only so far produced limited results in bringing the three-year war to a close, with the war raged on as a drawn-out war of attrition.

In the meantime, Germany’s new leader, Friedrich Merz, was set to meet Trump in Washington on Thursday to reaffirm U.S. backing for Ukraine’s military and diplomatic efforts.

As part of Ukraine’s effort to garner more international support, presidential aide Andriy Yermak traveled to Washington on Wednesday and had high-level American officials meet with him. In a statement posted on Ukraine’s presidential site, Yermak demanded stepped-up pressure on Russia, blaming Moscow for delaying peace negotiations and obstructing ceasefires. He also made a plea for Ukraine’s urgent need for more sophisticated air defense systems.

‘Only hours after the Pryluky attack, there was another drone strike on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, in which 17 individuals including children, a pregnant woman, and a 93-year-old woman were injured’, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov reported Telegram.

At approximately 1:05 a.m., Shahed drones hit two apartment complexes in Kharkiv’s Slobidskyi district, resulting in fires and destroying private cars. “By carrying out attacks while citizens sleep in their apartments, the enemy again confirms its tactic of treacherous terror,” Syniehubov wrote.

Moreover, four large glide bombs were released by Russian planes on Kherson in the south, injuring at least three individuals, local authorities confirmed.

Israeli Attack on Gaza’s Jabalia Kills 14, Mostly Women and Children

<excerpt>An Israeli airstrike in Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp killed 14 people, mostly women and children. The strike occurred amid ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, with thousands killed and hostages held, while international condemnation grows over displacement plans in Gaza.
</excerpt>

A residential apartment in Gaza’s Jabaliya refugee camp was hit by an Israeli air raid on Monday and killed 14, mostly women and children, said health officials. Shifa and al-Ahli hospitals confirmed that five women and seven children were among the dead in the heavily populated northern Gaza sector.

The Israeli Defence Forces have yet to comment on the request. Israel insists its attacks are focused only on militants and makes every effort to spare civilians, blaming any casualty of civilians on Hamas for placing themselves in amongst civilian populations.

The Israel-Hamas conflict started on October 7, 2023, when Palestinian militants attacked Israel on a massive scale, killing about 1,200 individuals, who were primarily civilians, and took 251 people hostage. Hamas is holding 58 hostages at present, with roughly one-third of them estimated to be alive, as many others have been released under ceasefire deals or negotiations.

More than 54,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed by Israel’s military campaign since then, Gaza’s Health Ministry says, though it does not break out how many victims were combatants and how many were civilians. The large-scale offensive has ruined much of Gaza and displaced about 90% of its inhabitants.

Hamas has indicated that it will only free the remaining hostages in return for the release of additional Palestinian prisoners, a solid ceasefire, and the Israeli troop withdrawal.

Israel has promised to carry out its military actions until all the hostages are released and Hamas is defeated, disarmed, or displaced. It also wants to keep Gaza under its control forever, in favor of what it calls voluntary emigration by a majority of Gaza’s population.

These plans to resettle have been strongly criticized by the Palestinians and the rest of the international community, who perceive them as forced displacement.

</excerpt>

For nearly a month, workers at the Samsung Electronics manufacturing facility in Chennai have been engaged in a protest demanding better wages and official recognition of their union.The strike, organized by the Samsung India Workers Union in collaboration with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (SIWU-CITU), has significantly impacted the company’s production, reportedly reducing output by 80% ahead of the vital festive season, which typically sees a surge in sales of home appliances.

Workers’ Demands

The Samsung plant in Tamil Nadu employs approximately 1,800 individuals, with more than 1,000 workers participating in the strike since September 9. The SIWU-CITU is advocating for several key demands, including:

Recognition of the Union: The union is seeking formal acknowledgment from Samsung Electronics.

Salary Increase: A three-year salary increment to ₹36,000.

Increased Shift Allowance: A rise in shift allowance from ₹150 to ₹250.

Extended Paternal Leave: An increase in paternal leave from three to seven days.

Equal Pay: The union demands equal pay for workers with similar qualifications and job responsibilities.

For the past 16 years Samsung India Electronics Private Limited has operated without a union. Although the Samsung India Workers Union was formed last year, it is still awaiting official registration and recognition from the company.

Company Response and Strike-Breaking Tactics

In response to the ongoing strike, Samsung Electronics has taken a hardline approach. The company warned workers last month that they would not receive wages if they continued protesting and faced potential termination. However, Samsung has also begun to use more conciliatory tactics. Reports indicate that the management has been sending snack kits containing fruits and chocolates to the homes of striking workers, as well as visiting their families in an attempt to discourage participation in the protests.

A Samsung employee with eight years of service noted, “They’re sending ‘snack kits’ with fruits and chocolates to our homes, calling and visiting family members to discourage strike participation.”

Additionally, S. Kannan, Tamil Nadu CITU’s deputy general secretary, revealed that Samsung is offering one-time bonuses to entice workers away from the union. Despite these efforts, striking employees remain steadfast, rejecting invitations to return to work under the company’s committee.

As the strike continues into its fourth week, the tension between Samsung management and its workers shows no signs of abating. With critical demands for better working conditions and union recognition still unmet, the outcome of this protest may have lasting implications for the workforce at Samsung’s Chennai manufacturing unit.

</excerpt>

Delhi residents are facing difficulties travelling on Friday as the autorickshaw and taxi drivers’ strike entered its second day. Commuters have struggled to find vehicles for last-mile connectivity. While several unions have chosen not to participate in the strike, its impact is still being felt in certain areas.

Auto-taxi unions in Delhi-NCR are protesting against the influence of app-based services like Ola and Uber, which have significantly reduced their earnings and imposed high commissions. The unions argue that both central and state governments have ignored their concerns despite repeated appeals, and they are calling for government intervention to regulate these services and ensure fair compensation for drivers.

Kishan Verma, President of the Delhi Auto Taxi Transport Congress Union, stated that they have repeatedly raised their concerns with the authorities, but their pleas have gone unheard. He accused the government of being involved in a “game of donations” with these companies and demanded an end to this practice. Verma also made serious allegations against Ola and Uber drivers, claiming they are involved in unethical activities, including the trade of alcohol and drugs as well as smuggling.

Kamljeet Kaur, a visitor from Punjab, said she was unable to hire an auto to her relative’s place in Rajouri Garden. “At least two drivers offered a Rs. 300 fare, which is more than double the usual rate. They said autos were scarce due to the strike, but I saw many autos operating when I left the station,” Kaur noted.

Rohan Sharma, a Delhi University student, said, “Caught in the middle of the auto and cab strike, one realises just how crucial mobility is to our daily lives and how quickly our routines can be disrupted.”

Arun Singh told the Daily Guardian that he arrived late to his office due to the strike. “I couldn’t find any cars on the street today because of the strike, which made me late for work,” he said.

Priya Kaur mentioned that her daughter had to wait outside the school for over half an hour because she couldn’t find an auto on time to pick her up.

Gautam from Mayur Vihar Phase I noted that the strike left him without a ride to the office, forcing him to rely on a friend’s assistance due to the scarcity of autos on the streets.

Manoj Pal, who takes an auto daily to travel to the office, said, Stranded by the auto and cab strike, I felt firsthand how essential transportation is to our daily routines, as a sudden lack of it turned an ordinary day into a struggle.

The strike follows the tragic incident on August 9, when a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The medical community has since been holding widespread demonstrations and protests across India.

The nationwide strike reflects the medical fraternity’s deep anger and grief over the incident, calling for swift justice and heightened safety measures for healthcare professionals.

Meanwhile the agitating employees have started the chain hunger strike as their agitation entered the 13th day.

The employees, who have been protesting since the last week of July, have been demanding to freeze NMH bylaws affecting their livelihood. ‘We have dedicated our lives to the service of the people and to with hold our salaries repeatedly while not standing up to the promise of Dearness Allowance for over a year is not what we stand’ says Sunil Swami, one of the protestors.

The protestors have later scheduled a meeting with the NHM MD later today at the National Health Mission office, Sector 2 Panchkula, which would determine the course of their strike’s fate. ‘Many promises were made to us by the then Manohar Lal government but nothing has been done till now. If our demands are not fulfilled, we shall withdraw our votes from the current government and continue striking but with extra force’ says Sunil.

Under the Joint NHM Front, NHM employees across Haryana have actively participated in the protest. Consequently, the referral transport services managed by NHM employees are completely shut down. Additionally, immunization services

She has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding this issue, attributing the crisis to Haryana’s failure to release Delhi’s share of water.

Speaking at a press conference, Atishi highlighted that Delhi is facing a water shortage due to actions taken by Haryana. She stated, “Yesterday, Haryana released 513 MGD of water to Delhi as against 613 MGD. One MGD of water is for 28,500 people. This means that water was not released for over 28 lakh people.” She emphasized that this shortage is adding to the challenges faced by residents dealing with the ongoing heatwave conditions.

Atishi has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and resolve the water crisis. If the situation remains unresolved within two days, she has announced her intention to go on an indefinite strike from June 21. She also mentioned that multiple letters have been sent to the Haryana government in an attempt to resolve the matter.

</excerpt>

On Saturday, after talks with studios broke down, the longest strike in the history of artists in cinema and television entered its hundredth day. Actors are still on strike lines, but screenwriters are actively returning to their jobs, according to Variety.

Furthermore, the time of its conclusion is uncertain. As of this writing, there has been no sign that the parties will be prepared to continue negotiations since the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers called off negotiations on October 11.
The actors union and a coalition of major studios jointly announced that negotiations will resume on Tuesday with the attendance of numerous studio executives.

Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), according to Variety, has expressed dissatisfaction at the absence of negotiations. The union’s main negotiator, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, stated that the 100-day mark serves as a reminder of how little significant negotiation has gone place since the strike began.

“We all will reflect on the fact that it’s been such a long time and so many of those days have been spent out on the picket lines and not in the room negotiating with the companies,” he said.

Laurie Hendler, another captain at Disney, said that membership was reenergized when the AMPTP walked away from the table.
“I think some of us were kind of feeling like we could coast through to the end,” she said. “And the next morning we had hundreds of people out here… I think that the studios are hoping they can divide us. They’re hoping they can break us. And they’re hoping that if they take their time, we will fall apart. And the fact that there are so many of us out here shows that that’s not going to happen”, reported Variety.

Stay tuned for more such stories.

</excerpt>

The impact of the Hollywood writers strike was felt as major television networks began their annual week of sales presentations to advertisers on Monday, with news personalities like Willie Geist and Stephanie Ruhle left to hawk comedies and dramas for NBC Universal.
Fox declined to announce a fall television schedule on Monday, citing uncertainties created by the strike.
Some 11,500 members of the Writers Guild for America, saying the rise of streaming has hurt their earning power, walked off the job two weeks after talks on a new contract broke down, and haven’t returned to the negotiating table since.
Network late-night shows immediately shut down. Picketing writers targeting some of the few shows shooting episodes forced the shutdown, at least temporarily, of programs including Showtime’s “Billions”, “Severance” on Apple TV+ and the new Marvel show, “Daredevil: Born Again” on Disney+.
The network sales presentations, known as upfronts because TV executives use them to convince advertisers to lock in commercial spending months in advance, are major events on the television schedule.They opened with turmoil; writers picketed in front of Radio City Music Hall where NBC previewed programming it hoped viewers would be able to see.
Mark Lazarus, NBC Universal president of television and streaming, quickly acknowledged the uncertainties in speaking to the ad representatives.
Lazarus came to the stage following a song-and-dance routine by an animated bear, Ted, voiced by creator Seth MacFarlane. Following two movies, the “Ted” character is set to begin a series on the Peacock streaming network. The upfront presentations are generally known for star power attempting to woo advertisers, but entertainers were notably missing from NBC Universal’s presentation.

When the state government agreed to exempt unaided private hospitals from the scope of the Right to Health Bill.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed his happiness with the negotiations’. He stated that nobody should suffer due to a lack of treatment, and with this idea in mind, the state government brought about the “Right to Health” (RTH).

It is a happy development that the state government has accepted the Right to Health Bill proposal put forth by the medical community. With this, Rajasthan would be the first state in the country to implement RTH, he said.

Rajasthan CM went on to say that the people of the state came forward in support of the bill and welcomed this people-friendly bill. It is a pleasing time that doctors have agreed on this crucial bill as well, he added.

It was a difficult phase for the doctors and patients. Doctors had to keep their hospitals shut for the last 17 days, and patients had to move from one place to another for the treatment, he said.

Dr Sanjeev Gupta, IMA media incharge, said a majority of private hospitals supported the agreement, and about 2,000 private hospitals would reopen in the state.

</excerpt>

Defying all appeals and even strict action by the government, the 72-hour strike by Uttar Pradesh power employees continued for the second day on Saturday, almost paralyzing power supply in the state, especially in rural areas. State Energy Minister AK Sharma, after meeting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has given an ultimatum to the employees to report for duty by 6 p.m. on Saturday. But the agitated power workers sit on the dharna till their demands were met.

An FIR has been lodged against 22 leaders of the Vidyut Karmachari Sangharsh Samiti, and action will be taken under ESMA. Six of these are being suspended. The Energy Minister said that action has also been taken against the contract workers, and so far the services of 1332 contract workers have been terminated.

The minister has instructed all the contract workers to report to duty by 6 p.m. today; otherwise, they will be sacked. Recruiting agencies have been asked to replace sacked personnel with ITI and engineering students.

Meanwhile, the Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukta Sangharsh Samiti has warned the government that if the agitating power workers are arrested or sacked, all employees, including junior engineers, engineers, and even contract workers, will go on an indefinite strike and go to mass jails. The movement will start all over the state.

The chairman of the committee, Shailendra Dubey, said here that due to the effect of the strike, the power supply in the state has collapsed even on the second day of the strike. Another unit of 500 MW capacity at Anpara Power House had to be shut down due to the non-availability of employees. Apart from this, five units of the total 1000 MW capacity of the Obra Thermal Power Station have stopped working completely.

Yesterday, on the first day of the strike, three units of 210 MW each remained closed in Anpara. A unit of 210 MW capacity at Parichha Thermal Power Station had to be shut down yesterday. Thus far, 12 thermal power units of 2950 MW capacity have been shut down in the Production Corporation.

He further said that many lines of transmission have been shut down and the power distribution system is crumbling due to the non-availability of electrical personnel at 33/11 KV distribution sub-stations.

This had an impact on services particularly those provided by state-run hospitals.
Teachers, sanitation workers, and paramedics employees have also joined the strike.
Workers displayed signs with messages like “Only one mission, restore old pension” outside of government buildings and hospitals.

Vishwas Katkar, the convenor of a committee of roughly 35 unions that represent teachers, semi-government employees and state government employees said that their members in all 36 districts of Maharashtra were participating in the stir.
Hospitals, schools, government buildings, tax offices and even district collector offices were fully closed, according to Katkar.

Employees who come under the New Pension Plan (NPS) provide a portion of their salary contributions to the pension fund based on which they are eligible for a one-time lump sum payment upon superannuation.
The New Pension Plan went into effect on April 1, 2004, and the Old Pension System ended in December 2003.

The rail services in London will be crippled for a third day in a row. Train drivers strike on Thursday too with a warning to escalate industrial action unless a pay dispute is resolved. Members of the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) will be on strike leaving London and other major parts of the country with no trains all day.

The biggest disruption is caused to the two busiest airport routes being shut, that is Gatwick Express and Heathrow Express. ASLEF general secretary Mick Whelan stated that further strikes are “inevitable” unless there is some solution to the prolonged issue of pay dispute. He further added, saying union members are demanding to go “harder and faster” after many years of not receiving any pay rise.

On Wednesday, the National Highways traffic officer service workers and Rural Payments Agency staff members maintained their walkouts as the DVSA driving examiners strike began in London. The ASLEF strike is a continuation of the week-long industrial action that has plagued the capital. The first in a series of actions planned by the organization for the month of January was a two-day walkout by London bus employees at Abellio.

The second day of a 48-hour strike by members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) over salary, jobs, and conditions caused more delays for train passengers on Wednesday. After a week of rail travel mayhem, another 48-hour RMT strike will begin on Friday. As tens of thousands of RMT members at Network Rail and 14 train operators went on strike on Wednesday, about half of Britain’s railway lines were shut down, and just a fifth of services were offered.

Paul Nowak the new Trade Union Congress (TUC) leader in a letter to Prime Minister has demanded for an urgent meeting to discuss the wave of industrial disputes. He wrote in his letter: “We can’t solve these problems without a fair deal for the people on the frontline.” Mr. Nowak also wrote, “Unions have already made clear their willingness to sit down with the Government and talk about boosting pay. But while your ministers continue to refuse point blank to discuss improving wages, there can be no resolution.”

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday called for a “reasonable dialogue” with striking unions in a speech in east London.

Medical faculty members from 13 medical schools, including Government Gandhi Medical College, went on strike in opposition to the state government’s plan to transfer management of medical colleges to administrative authorities in Bhopal.

State President of the Medical Teacher Doctors Association, Dr. Sunil Agarwal, said, “The administrative officials do not understand the profession of doctors. So why will the administrative officers take the decisions related to the medical college? If arrangements have to be made, then only a doctor should be appointed.”

The government will be accountable if the patients are in difficulty. Additionally, Dr. Agrawal warned, emergency services will be halted if the plan is approved by the cabinet.

The state government will forward a proposal at today’s cabinet meeting that would give administrative officers control over all aspects of the operations at medical institutions. The doctors opposed the proposal as a result.

The medical educators have also received the backing of the junior doctors. The protesters issued a warning that the emergency services would also be shut down if the proposal was approved by the cabinet.
