Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik’s latest statement of Dinesh Vijan drawing parallels between the laughter of Shraddha Kapoor and of a “chudail (witch)” was not liked by followers. Interviewing Komal Nahta on his podcast Game Changers, Amar spoke about the process of Shraddha being cast in Stree franchise.

What Amar Kaushik revealed regarding Shraddha Kapoor’s laughter

Amar said, “Shraddha ki casting puri ki puri Dinesh Vijan ko jaati hai…Toh Shraddha ke saath kisi flight mein aa rahe the, flight mein unko mili thi. Unki kuch hasi thi toh unhone bola, ‘Amar, woh jab hasti hai na toh ekdum Stree ki tarah, ekdum chudail ki tarah hasti hai’ (The credit for Shraddha’s casting goes to Dinesh Vijan…He was travelling with Shraddha on a flight; they met there. She had a laugh, he said, ‘Amar when she laugh. it’s similar to Stree, just like a witch’).”

“Sorry, Shraddha. Aisa kuch bola tha unhone, chudail bola tha kya bola tha, I’m not sure…Jab main unko mila toh sabse pehle hasee maine puchi, haso. But woh use nahi kari obviously she wasn’t a character jo hasegi (He said something, witch or something else, I’m not sure…When I met her I asked her to laugh. But she didn’t use that laugh obviously because she wasn’t a character),” the Stree director added.

One such clip from the interview was posted on X (formerly Twitter). In response, someone commented,”Hey @AmarKaushik, seems like you’ve forgotten who made #Stree2 a hit! “The exciting conversations among members of the audience, the interesting ideas they are coming up with, speculating what’s next, have reached me and I’m really excited for everyone to see the film,” Kaushik shared.

Reflecting on the origins of the sequel, Kaushik acknowledged that the idea was always in the back of his mind while creating the first film in 2018. “Somewhere it [the sequel] was on my mind while making the first part,” he admitted. However, he emphasized that he did not want to pursue a sequel just for the sake of it.

“Ours was a small film, and we thought that we had a lot more to tell in terms of a story. There were a lot of questions that were left unanswered in the first part, and we had answers to all of them. But, we weren’t certain that we wanted to make a sequel. It was when we took Stree to the audiences, they loved it, there was a lot of speculation [about the next part], and the audiences demanded a sequel that we decided to make one,” Kaushik explained.

Kaushik, who has also directed Bala (2019) and Bhediya (2022), addressed the possibility of more sequels, saying, “There is a possibility of Stree 3, 4, and 5. But we first have to see how much the audiences accept the upcoming film.” He added, “As for me, if there is a demand, if I’m asked, I will make [Stree 3]. But, I won’t make it just for the sake of it. There should be demand [from the audience]. Story mere paas hain, demand ayegi toh main bana dunga.”

As the release date of Stree 2 approaches, Kaushik admits to feeling a bit nervous due to high expectations. “There’s a lot of expectation from the film, and that makes me nervous. But we’ve made a good film, with full honesty. So, we’re hoping the people will like it,” he shared.

When asked about the potential box office clash with Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedhaa, Kaushik remained optimistic. “It is a big date, and since it is a long weekend, there’s a chance for everyone. All the films are good, and each one has its own audience. People will definitely watch all of them. I have no apprehension,” he said, adding, “Having said that, all I can say is that I’m not this film’s producer. It’s not my call. I’m a filmmaker [for this movie], and all I’ve tried to do is make a good film.”

The second half of 2024 brings many changes to Bollywood movie release dates. Some popular sequels, like Singham Again and Stree 2, have new dates. These changes affect big holidays like Independence Day and Diwali.

Independence Day Clash

Three big movies were set to release on August 15:

‘Vedaa’- An action drama by Nikkhil Advani, starring John Abraham.
‘Pushpa: The Rule’ – A Telugu action drama by Sukumar, featuring Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil.
‘Singham Again’ – A cop drama by Rohit Shetty, with Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, and others.

Recently, another movie joined the Independence Day list:
4. “Khel Khel Mein” – A buddy comedy by Mudassar Aziz, starring Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, and Fardeen Khan.

There are rumors that “Pushpa: The Rule” might be delayed, but there is no official confirmation yet. Ajay Devgn confirmed that “Singham Again” needs more time and will not be ready for August 15. Rohit Shetty later announced that “Singham Again” will now release on Diwali instead.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 – A horror comedy by Anees Bazmee, starring Kartik Aaryan and Vidya Balan. Triptii Dimri will replace Kiara Advani as the leading lady. Madhuri Dixit is rumored to join, possibly having a dance-off with Vidya’s character. Rajpal Yadav will return in his role from the previous movies.

Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor’s horror-comedy Stree 2 release date out

Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor’s horror-comedy Stree 2 has got a release date now. Ayushmann Khurrana’s younger brother Aparshakti Khurana is also returning in the film. Amar Kaushik’s directorial was one of the super successful films of 2018. At Jio Studios’s Infinite Together event, the producer of the film Dinesh Vijan took the stage to announce that the film is coming on screens next year. The film brings back the star cast of Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee. Stree is ready to release on August 31, 2024.

Interestingly, Varun Dhawan-Kriti Sanon’s Bhediya 2 was also announced at the event.
Varun and Kriti’s Bhediya received a positive response at the box office. In the first part of the film, Kriti’s character died in the end, but her presence at the event makes us wonder if she would be a part of the sequel.

Dinesh Vijan also revealed that Maddock Films is working on a vampire-themed film as part of the horror-comedy universe. Adding more details, the plot of Stree is based on the urban legend Nale Ba of Karnataka. The film is based on the Indian folk legend about a witch who abducts men at night when they are alone and only leaves their clothes behind.
