BBC Drops Sidhu Moose Wala Documentary on YouTube Despite Father’s Appeal for Ban

The BBC World Service released a two-part investigative documentary on late Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moose Wala, on June 11, the day marking his birth anniversary. The release came even as Moose Wala’s father, Balkaur Singh Sidhu, had moved a Mansa court in Punjab seeking a stay on the screening. The court is scheduled to hear the petition on June 12.

Family Appeals Against BBC’s Unauthorised Release

Despite the family’s efforts to block the release and promote their own tribute — an extended play (EP) of unreleased tracks — the BBC went ahead and dropped the film on YouTube. The documentary includes interviews with Moose Wala’s childhood friends, journalists, and senior police officials, along with a chilling audio call with gangster Goldy Brar, the accused mastermind behind the May 29, 2022 assassination in Jawahar Ke village, Mansa.

Originally, the BBC had planned a public screening at a Mumbai cinema on the evening of June 11. However, following public backlash and the family’s objections, the broadcaster shifted the release to YouTube.

Inside the Two-Part Documentary

Titled The Killing Call, the first episode of the documentary traces Moose Wala’s rise from a rural Punjabi village to international stardom, highlighting the controversies that followed him. The second episode investigates the circumstances around his murder, the alleged involvement of criminal syndicates, and the state of the investigation.

In the YouTube description, the BBC wrote,

“On 29 May 2022, Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was murdered by hired gunmen who tracked his car, shot him through the windshield, and left him to die. Afterward, gangster Goldy Brar publicly claimed responsibility for the killing. But nearly three years later, no one has been convicted, the motives remain unclear, and Brar is still at large…”

The broadcaster further claimed the film is:

“A story that spans rural Indian villages, Canada’s hip-hop scene, the complex history of Punjab, and the evolving political climate in India.”

It also includes unseen archival material and exclusive interviews with Moose Wala’s friends and collaborators.

Father’s Legal Action and Objection

Speaking to India Today, Balkaur Singh confirmed the family’s opposition to the release:

“We objected over the documentary and the release is without our consent. We have taken the matter to the Mansa court but will soon move the High Court on this.”

Earlier, Singh had also filed a complaint with the Maharashtra Director General of Police and Mumbai’s Juhu Police Station. He noted that the BBC had planned a screening on June 11 at 3 PM and had sent out invites claiming it featured unreleased and exclusive facts.

He further alleged that the documentary might tarnish his son’s image and legacy.

Over the last few years, Bishnoi’s name has been associated with several high-profile murders, most notably the assassinations of singer Sidhu Moose Wala and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique.

The transformation of this police constable’s son into a notorious gangster is intriguing. Known as Lawrence Bishnoi alias Balkaran Barar, he fell in love while in school. Tensions escalated after the college election in 2011, resulting in violent confrontations between Lawrence’s group and their opponents. Tragically, the rival faction targeted Lawrence’s girlfriend, reportedly setting her on fire during a brutal attack. Following her death, Lawrence sought revenge against several student leaders.

Lawrence was only five years old when the infamous blackbuck poaching case involving Bollywood star Salman Khan occurred in 1998 during the filming of Hum Saath-Saath Hain in Rajasthan. This incident angered the Bishnoi community, which reveres the animal.

Fast forward twenty-six years, and Lawrence Bishnoi’s deep-seated resentment towards Salman Khan persists even while he is behind bars. Mumbai Police suspect that Siddique’s murder was orchestrated at Lawrence Bishnoi’s behest after a purported Facebook post surfaced, stating, “Jo Salman Khan aur Dawood gang ki help karega apna hisab-kitab laga ke rakhna (whoever helps Salman Khan and the Dawood gang, keep your accounts in order).”

In a light-hearted exchange with reporters on Sunday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi referred to Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s track “295” when asked about the number of seats the INDIA bloc would secure in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Gandhi quipped, “Sidhu Moose Wala ka song suna hai aapne?” (Have you heard Sidhu Moose Wala’s song?), before answering “295 seats.”

Commenting on the exit polls, Gandhi dismissed them as “Modi media polls” and described them as Prime Minister Modi’s “fantasy poll.” The Congress party held a strategy meeting on Sunday with its Lok Sabha candidates to prepare for the counting day on June 4. After the meeting, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal expressed confidence, stating, “This exit poll is a bogus poll for the government. The INDIA alliance will get 295 seats and certainly form the government.”

The INDIA bloc delegation is scheduled to meet the Election Commission today at 4:30 pm at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi. Earlier in the day, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also dismissed the exit poll projections, labelling them as a “psychological game.”

“The outgoing PM has conspired to manage the exit polls. There will be a huge difference between the exit polls and the results on June 4. The INDIA alliance had a detailed discussion yesterday, and it is impossible that we will get anything below 295 seats,” Ramesh asserted.

According to the India Today-Axis My India exit polls, the NDA is projected to win between 361-401 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, while the INDIA bloc is expected to secure 131-166 seats. The Republic PMarq exit poll predicts 359 out of 543 seats for the NDA, 154 for the INDIA bloc, and 30 for others. Similarly, the Republic Matrize poll forecasts 353-368 seats for the NDA, 118-133 for the INDIA bloc and 43-48 for other parties. The NewsX Dynamics poll gives 371 seats to the NDA, 125 to the INDIA bloc, and 47 to others.

Notice issued to State Health Secretary by Punjab Govt over IVF treatment of Moosewala’s mother

The Punjab government has sent a notice to State Principal Health Secretary Ajoy Sharma, seeking his explanation for obtaining information on Sidhu Moosewala’s family’s IVF treatment without informing CM Bhagwant Mann or the state Health Minister beforehand.

The notice cited the Rules of Business, 1992, and emphasized the need to inform the Minister-in-charge and the Chief Minister before taking action. Sharma has been given two weeks to respond, with potential disciplinary action under consideration.

Earlier, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had requested a report from the Punjab government regarding the IVF treatment of Sidhu Moosewala’s mother, Charan Kaur, citing the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021. Moosewala’s father expressed frustration over the inquiry on Facebook, stating he possessed all legal documents.

The AAP Punjab unit blamed the central government for requesting the IVF treatment documents, emphasizing CM Bhagwant Mann’s respect for Punjabi sentiments. Two Arrested in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj Linked to Lawrence Bishnoi Gang

Following a brief exchange of gunfire in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj neighbourhood on Friday night, two individuals associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate were apprehended. Anish and a 15-year-old juvenile were apprehended while on their way to carry out an extortion-related incident near a prominent 5-star hotel in South Delhi.

The arrest was made based on specific intelligence inputs, and as the accused approached the target location on a motorcycle, police intervened, resulting in a brief exchange of gunfire. Even though the accused fired five rounds, the police responded with two rounds in self-defence, resulting in no injuries.

Two sophisticated pistols, along with four live cartridges, and the motorcycle used in the intended crime were seized by the police. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act at the Special Cell police station, including charges of obstruction, assault, and attempt to murder.

Investigations revealed Anish’s prior involvement in six criminal cases, including armed robbery, violating the Arms Act, and assault, all within the Rohtak district. The juvenile suspect was also found to have been engaged in a previous armed robbery case in Rohtak. Further investigations are underway to gather more information about their criminal activities and connections within the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate.

Delhi Crime Branch Makes Big Arrests, Nabs 2 Shooters Linked to Goldy Brar-Lawrence Bishnoi

The Delhi Police crime branch has successfully apprehended two shooters associated with the Goldy Brar-Lawrence Bishnoi gang, shedding light on a recent shooting incident at the residence of former Punjab MLA Deep Malhotra in Punjabi Bagh on December 3.

Both shooters, identified as Akash from Sonipat and Akhil from Charkhi Dadri, played critical roles in the targeted shooting at the ex-MLA’s residence. The assailants were allegedly acting on the orders of Goldie Brar, who allegedly threatened the former MLA via voice notes and demanded his release.

Goldie Brar’s criminal activities extended beyond the shooting, as liquor vends linked to the ex-MLA were set ablaze in Punjab, further escalating tensions.

Simultaneously, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated searches at nearly a dozen locations in Haryana and Rajasthan, focusing on individuals with connections to the incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Bishnoi, who is currently in jail and implicated in the murder case of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, is a notorious figure with a history of involvement in criminal activities.

The ED raids, conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), targeted the residences of suspects associated with Bishnoi, aiming to uncover financial links and illicit transactions within the gang. The Punjab Police had previously indicated that the killing of Moosewala was the result of inter-gang rivalry, with the Bishnoi gang being implicated.

Punjab: Police conducts raids in several districts to nab aides of gangster Goldy Brar

Punjab Police are conducting searches to apprehend the associates of gangster Goldie Brar, who is rumored to have a base in Canada, amidst the diplomatic spat between India and Canada. Siddhu Moosewala, a Punjabi singer, was killed, and Brar is accused of it.
The mission was launched by Punjab Police on Thursday at seven in the morning and will last all day. In the rural districts of Moga, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, and Amritsar, police are conducting the operations.

The Report of the operation is to be submitted to ADGP today at 5 PM.
Goldy Brar, alias Satinderjeet Singh, is said to be a member of Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang. He left India for Canada, on a student visa, in 2017. Goldy Brar was also the prime accused in the murder of cult rapper and Congress leader Sidhu Moose Wala on May 29, 2022.

According to the allegations, Brar planned Moose Wala’s murder with criminal Lawrence Bishnoi.
Brar was listed as one of Canada’s top 25 most wanted criminals in May of this year. Brar is the subject of a Red Notice from Interpol that charges him with murder, criminal conspiracy, and the supply of illegal firearms in addition to an attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, and the supply of illegal firearms.
On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) released information about 43 people connected to a terrorist-gang network with ties to Canada.

Balkaur Singh, the parents of murdered Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, urged people not to support the Aam Aadmi Party on Monday and asked them to put “justice for Moose Wala” images as their profile pictures on social media.

Balkaur Singh also alleged the AAP government of suppressing the Sidhu Moose Wala case and denying justice to him. “Whoever raises his voice for his rights is being suppressed by the government and cases are being registered against them. Maybe now the government can come up with a new drama by making a new video viral. I would like to urge people who love Sidhu Moosewala should not vote Aam Aadmi Party because they should know how they have worked in Punjab”, said Singh. Moosewala’s mother Charan Kaur also urged people associated with Moose wala to put Moosewala’s pictures as their profile picture on social media accounts and make the candidates realize how many people are associated with Moosewala.

“Whoever is associated with Moose Wala put ‘justice for Moosewala’ pictures as their profile picture on social media and question candidates and make them realize that how many people are associated with Moose Wala. My son’s name is being attached to everyone from Karan Aujla to others,” said Kaur.

According to the police, a case has been registered against unknown people for threatening Moose wala’s father. On March 7, Singh held a protest outside the Punjab Assembly and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the murder of his son.

Speaking to media persons outside the Punjab Assembly, Singh said no investigation is happening in his favour. “In the last 10 months, I went to Police and Administration several times. I was assured. But what’s happening here is being done to brush under the carpet the murder of my child. Nothing is going in my favour. So, I had to come to Assembly,” said the father of the late singer.

Punjab: Two gangsters accused in Moosewala’s murder died in Goindwala Jail

In a clash between the gangster groups in Goindwala Jail, Punjab, two inmates who were accused of singer Siddhu Moosewala’s murder died on Sunday, sources said. The deceased have been identified as Mandeep Singh alias Tufan and Manmohan Singh alias Mohna.

Another inmate, who is identified as Keshaw of Bathinda, has received severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Notably, all three of them have been arrested in connection with Moosewala’s murder.

In a statement, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jaspal Singh Dhillon, revealed, “There was a fight between miscreants in Goindwal Sahib jail, in which Duran Mandeep Singh Toofan, resident of Rayya was killed. Manmohan Singh Mohana who was admitted to Civil Hospital Tarn Taran.”

Tufan, who was accused of providing vehicles to the shooters, was arrested by the anti-gangster task force in September, 2022. Earlier, he was wanted in the killing of another notorious gangaster, Ranbir Singh alias Rana Kandowalia.

Speaking about Moosewala, he was shot dead on May 29, 2022, a day after the State government curtailed his security cover. Moosewala was shot at point-blank range. He was declared dead by the doctors after arriving at the Mansa civil hospital.

Vaar, the second posthumous song by Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, has been released

Five months after his death, slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s song Vaar, which lauds the bravery of Sikh general Hari Singh Nalwa, is trending on YouTube with over 1.4 million views in just 37 minutes.

Under Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Nalwa (1791-1837) commanded the Sikh empire’s army and was known for his role in the conquests of Kasur, Sialkot, Attock, Multan, Kashmir, Peshwar, and Jamrud. He extended the Sikh empire’s borders beyond the Indus River all the way to the mouth of the Khyber Pass.

The song, which was released on the birth anniversary of Sikhism’s founder, Guru Nanak Dev, begins with the line: “Nalwa is a lion heart son of Dashmesh (Guru Gobind Singh ji) and pride of Punjab.”

The second posthumous song by Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu was trending on YouTube, where it was released at 10 a.m. on Tuesday from Moose Wala’s official account. On YouTube, the video received 3.62 lakh likes. The song has received a lot of attention on Instagram, where the singer has 11.4 million followers.

The song’s Instagram caption by Moose Wala read: “Until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will always glorify the hunter. Vaar Playing Now..!”

SYL, a contentious first posthumous song

SYL, the first song released following Moose Wala’s murder, focused on the more than four-decade-old political dispute between Punjab and Haryana over the construction of the Sutlej Yamuna Link Canal (SYL). Aside from SYL, the singer touched on the post-independence undivided Punjab, sovereignty, the 1984 riots, the release of Sikh prisoners, and the incident of hoisting the Khalsa flag at Red Fort during the farmer agitation on Delhi’s border.

Following a legal complaint from the Union government, YouTube removed the SYL song from its platform in India. The song, which was released on June 23 evening, received 27 million views and 3.3 million likes on the singer’s YouTube page in less than three days before it was removed.

36 people have been charged in the Moose Wala murder case.

Moose Wala was killed on May 29 in Jawahar Ke village in Punjab’s Mansa district, a day after the Punjab government reduced his security cover. He was driving in a jeep with his cousin and a friend to Jawahar Ke, about 10 kilometres from his home village of Moosa, when he was ambushed and killed.

The Punjab Police SIT has named 36 people as suspects in the case and filed a 1,850-page chargesheet against 24 of them.

Deepak Tinu, a key suspect in the murder of Punjabi musician and Congressman Sidhu Moosewala, escaped from custody in the Mansa district on Sunday, according to police. Tinu is an associate of jailed mobster Lawrence Bishnoi.

When Tinu was being transported in a private vehicle from Kapurthala Jail to Mansa on remand on Saturday night, they claimed he was able to elude Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) agents. “When Tinu escaped from detention, he was being transported to Mansa’s CIA staff headquarters from Kapurthala Jail. Investigations into the suspects were necessary in relation to the Moosewala murder case “Police in Mansa claimed.

The police have teams searching for Tinu, according to M S Chinna, IG of Bhatinda, and no police officers will be spared if they are discovered to have assisted in his escape.

Shehzad Poonawalla, a BJP lawmaker, criticised Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his administration on Sunday for allegedly being too soft on crime.

“AAP’s VVIP netas were protected by a 42-car convoy for proxy CM Bhagwant Mann, but Deepak Tinu, a key figure in the Moosewala murder plot, escaped from Punjab police custody! AAP is assisting gangs rather than enforcing a crackdown on them! Do we require further evidence?” Tweeted Poonawalla.

Moosewala, 28, was shot dead on May 29 by unidentified assailants in Mansa, a day after the state government curtailed his security cover. The Punjabi singer was shot at point-blank range and was declared brought dead on arrival at the Mansa civil hospital.
The killers fired over 30 rounds at Moosewala, who was found slumped in the driver’s seat by locals.
The investigation suggested Lawrence Bishnoi was the mastermind of the daylight killing. His close aide Goldy Brar, who is said to be based in Canada, is also under investigation in this case. Police have issued a Red Corner Notice against Brar through Interpol.
Moosewala had fought an election from Mansa in the last assembly election on a Congress ticket but was defeated by AAP’s Vijay Singla.

Cop arrests two killers of Sidhu Moose Wala

During an intelligence-based operation in Kukranwala village and Jandiala Guru town in Amritsar district on Friday, Punjab Police arrested two gangsters linked to the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.

Mandeep Singh, alias Tufan, and Manpreet Singh, alias Money Rayya, are associates of notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and prime suspects in the murder of gangster Rana Kandowalia.

“In an intelligence-led operation, #AGTF (anti-gangster task force) arrested two main absconding members: Mandeep@Tufan & Manpreet@Mani Raiya of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria Gang from #Amritsar. Both wanted for several cases of killings, dacoity and links with #SidhuMooseWala murder case,” Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav tweeted.

According to sources, arms and ammunition were also recovered from the accused, who had been on the run for a year.

Jagroop Singh, alias Roopa, and Manpreet Singh, alias Manu, two accomplices of Bhagwanpuria, who faces more than 40 criminal cases, were killed in a heavy exchange of fire with Punjab Police in a border village of Amritsar district in July. Both of the slain suspects were among the shooters who killed Moose Wala on May 29 in Mansa district.

According to Amritsar police, both of the accused are suspected of providing logistical support to the slain gangsters.

Ranbir Singh, alias Rana Kandowalia, a gangster considered Bhagwanpuria’s rival, was shot dead in a private hospital in August of last year. Both defendants were prime suspects. They are accused of a dozen crimes, including murder, dacoity, and robbery.

Sidhu Moose Wala Murder Case: Sachin Bishnoi detained from Azerbaijan

Sachin Bishnoi, the main accused in the Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala murder case, has been arrested in Azerbaijan.

After the information of the arrest, the Punjab Police and the central investigative agencies are in touch with the Azerbaijan government. Efforts are on to extradite him.

According to police sources, Sachin Bishnoi is the brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, the kingpin of the main gang who conspired to kill Moose Wala.

Meanwhile, the location of gangster Lawrence’s brother Anmol has been found in Kenya. Both of them had gone out of India based on fake passports before the murder of Moose Wala.
