When Shikhar Dhawan Chose Love Over Cricket—& Rohit Sharma Lost Sleep

June 27, 2025, 11:55 am

Shikhar Dhawan has shared a personal chapter from his early cricketing journey in his newly released autobiography. The former Indian opener detailed a romantic escapade that unfolded during the 2006 India A tour to Australia—a story involving secrecy, distraction, and a young Rohit Sharma as his roommate.

Shikhar Dhawan Sharing Tour Anecdote

While on tour, Dhawan fell for a woman he refers to as Ellen (a pseudonym), and their connection quickly intensified. “She was very beautiful, and suddenly I was in love again! I thought to myself, ‘She is the one for me, and I am going to marry her,'” he wrote. What followed was a risky decision; sneaking her into the hotel room he was sharing with teammate Rohit Sharma.

Despite a promising start to the tour, Dhawan admitted that his attention started drifting from cricket. “I started with a half-century in a practice game, and my tour was progressing well. After every game, I would go over to meet up with Ellen… and I soon started smuggling her into my hotel room which I was sharing with Rohit Sharma,” he recalled.

Naturally, Sharma grew irritated. “Now and then, he would complain in Hindi. ‘Will you let me sleep?’”

Their secret didn’t stay under wraps for long. One night, Dhawan and Ellen were seen walking hand-in-hand through the hotel lobby. “A senior national selector, who was on tour with us, spotted us… It didn’t even occur to me that I should let go of her hand, because to me, we were committing no crime.”

But the romance had unintended consequences. “There was a good chance that if I had performed consistently on that Australia tour, I would have made it to the senior Indian side, but my performance kept dipping.”

Stellar Career

Despite the distractions on that tour, Dhawan went on to build a stellar career for India. He represented the country in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is. In ODIs, he scored 6793 runs at an average of 44.11, including 17 centuries. His Test record boasts 2315 runs with 7 centuries to his name.

The anecdote adds a humorous, human touch to Dhawan’s career and offers fans a glimpse into the early days of two modern Indian cricket greats.

Shikhar Dhawan Slams Pakistan Over Ceasefire Breach After Peace Talks

May 11, 2025, 8:01 am

Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan strongly reacted on Saturday. Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement just hours after U.S.-led talks aimed to calm tensions between India and Pakistan.

Shikhar Dhawan expressed his anger. He wrote on X, “Ghatiya desh ne fir apna ghatiyapan poori duniya ke aage dikha diya.”

Sehwag’s Sharp Reaction on Social Media

Earlier, Sehwag took to X (formerly Twitter). He posted a picture with a popular Hindi phrase, “Kutte ki dum tedi ki tedi hi rehti hai,” which means some things never change, no matter how much effort is made.

Likewise, Indian cricketers Yuzvendra Chahal and Rahul Tewatia shared the same image on their Instagram stories. Meanwhile,

Ceasefire Deal Followed Deadly Attack in Kashmir

Earlier, the ceasefire agreement was seen as a hopeful step. It came after a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, South Kashmir, last month. That attack killed 26 tourists and raised tensions between the two nations.

However, just hours after the agreement, explosions were heard in Srinagar and Jammu. After that, blackouts hit both cities. So far, there have been no reports of injuries or deaths.

India Blames Pakistan for Breaking the Deal

Later that evening, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a press conference. He said Pakistan violated the understanding reached earlier that day.

Misri stated, “We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility.” He added that the Indian Army was “retaliating” in response to a “border intrusion.”

Pakistan Denies Blame and Points to India

On the other hand, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry claimed that it still respected the ceasefire. Moreover, it accused India of starting the violation.

The ministry said, “We believe that any issues in the smooth implementation of the ceasefire should be addressed through communication at appropriate levels.”

She is a Marketing and Management graduate of the Limerick Institute of Technology and was once a student at Castleroy College in Ireland.

Personal Struggles and Divorce of Shikhar Dhawan

Dhawan virtually confirmed his romance with Sophie at the media conclave, going on to say that he had moved on from his former relationship.

In a telling revelation, The former Indian opener opened up about his own struggles after his divorce in February 2025, sharing that it had been two years since he had last seen his son, Zoravar, and more than an year since they last communicated.

Dhawan and his estranged wife, Aesha Mukherjee, parted ways in October 2023 after 11 years of marriage. Dhawan wed Aesha, who has two daughters from her first marriage, in 2011, but the couple broke up after going through some tough years.

Court Ruling and Custody Issues

A Delhi court which issued Dhawan’s divorce commented that he suffered mental distress because of his ex-wife, who had kept him away from his sole son for years. The court ruled that Aesha either did not object to these claims or did not defend herself.

Nevertheless, Dhawan was not able to obtain permanent custody of Zoravar. The court gave him visitation rights and allowed video calls for a ‘reasonable period’ in both India and Australia, where his estranged wife lives. But Dhawan has alleged he was blocked from all virtual contact with his son.

Shikhar Dhawan Slams Shahid Afridi with Brutal Reply Amid Pahalgam Attack Fallout

April 28, 2025, 11:11 pm

Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has hit back with a powerful response to Shahid Afridi’s comments regarding the Pahalgam attack, in what has become a fresh chapter in the ongoing tensions between the two cricketing nations. On April 28, 2025, Dhawan took to Twitter to deliver a strong rebuttal to Afridi, who had made controversial remarks in connection with the attack, invoking strong nationalistic sentiments.

Afridi’s Remarks and Reply of Shikhar Dhawan

Shahid Afridi, known for his blunt opinions, recently made a statement about the Pahalgam attack, a tragic incident that took place in Jammu and Kashmir. Afridi’s remarks, which many considered disrespectful and politically charged, seemed to imply criticism of India’s response to the situation. His statement sparked outrage among Indian fans and public figures, with many questioning the basis of his comments.

In a tweet that quickly gained traction, Shikhar Dhawan fired back at Afridi, asserting that his time would be better spent focusing on the progress of his own country rather than making unwarranted comments about India. Dhawan’s tweet read, “Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge, bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao @SAfridiOfficial. Humein hamari Indian Army par bohot garv hai. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind!”

The Significance of Response by Shikhar Dhawan

Dhawan’s response was both direct and measured, emphasizing the pride and respect that India holds for its armed forces. The message clearly conveyed his frustration with Afridi’s comments while also reinforcing the national pride surrounding the Indian Army’s efforts and sacrifices. By bringing up the Kargil conflict, Dhawan subtly reminded Afridi of India’s military victories and resilience.

The tweet quickly became a talking point across social media platforms, with many Indians expressing support for Dhawan’s stand. The response resonated with those who felt that Afridi’s remarks were out of line, further igniting the debate between the two nations on issues far beyond cricket.

The Aftermath and Public Reaction

The exchange between the two former cricketers has sparked widespread attention. While some have backed Afridi’s right to voice his opinion, many have rallied behind Dhawan, applauding him for standing up for his country and its values. Cricket fans from both India and Pakistan are closely monitoring the developments, with this fresh dispute adding fuel to the already heated rivalry between the two nations.

As the story continues to unfold, all eyes will be on Afridi’s next move. Will he respond to Dhawan’s sharp retort, or will he choose to let the matter rest? One thing is certain this latest episode is sure to fuel the passion of cricket fans on both sides of the border.

‘Semi-Final Mar Gaya!’: Dhawan Roasts Rayudu’s U19 Ban While MI Crushes CSK

April 21, 2025, 10:07 am

IPL 2025 has brought not just cricketing action but also a fair share of off-field entertainment, thanks to new additions in the commentary box.

This season, broadcasters have introduced several fresh faces as experts and commentators, including Shikhar Dhawan and Ambati Rayudu. While Rayudu retired after playing in the IPL 2023 final for Chennai Super Kings, Dhawan featured in his last match during the same season.

The duo, former teammates at both junior and senior levels, recently reunited on Star Sports’ IPL coverage. Their shared past came alive when Dhawan recounted a hilarious incident from their U19 World Cup days, leaving the studio in laughter.

Dhawan’s Hilarious Jab At Rayudu’s U19 Suspension

In a segment hosted by Aakash Chopra, Dhawan narrated how Rayudu, the captain of India’s 2004 U19 World Cup team, ended up missing the crucial semi-final against Pakistan due to a suspension. “Ambati Rayudu ka bahut bada naam tha U19 mai. Humare captain the U19 World Cup mei aur waha pe bhi ban hogaye the, humara semi-final mar gaya,” Dhawan said with a chuckle.

The incident he referred to was Rayudu’s one-match ban for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct, specifically for time-wasting and on-field misconduct. His absence was a massive blow for India, who eventually lost the semi-final to arch-rivals Pakistan.

Rayudu’s Troubled History with Bans

Dhawan’s cheeky remark not only revived memories from 2004 but also drew indirect parallels to Rayudu’s BCCI ban in 2007, when he joined the unsanctioned Indian Cricket League (ICL). During that period, he represented Hyderabad Heroes, which led to a temporary ban by BCCI.

Although the BCCI later offered amnesty in 2009 and Rayudu returned to domestic cricket, his career continued to be marked by high-profile controversies, including his snub from India’s 2019 World Cup squad.

From Snubs to Sarcasm: Rayudu’s Rollercoaster Ride

When Rayudu was overlooked in favor of Vijay Shankar for the 2019 World Cup, he famously tweeted about ordering a “3D” pair of glasses—mocking the selectors’ reasoning that Shankar offered a “three-dimensional” skill set.

Even the Iceland Cricket Board cheekily offered him a spot in their national team.

Rayudu eventually retired from international cricket in 2019 and hung up his IPL boots in 2023. Post-retirement, he joined Texas Super Kings for the inaugural Major League Cricket (MLC) season.

Old Teammates, New Banter

Rayudu’s reaction to Dhawan’s roast was a mix of surprise and amusement. Initially appearing annoyed, he eventually joined the laughter along with Chopra. The moment showcased the light-hearted chemistry and camaraderie between the former teammates—adding a dash of humor to IPL 2025’s expert panel.

“Stay cheerful and blessed,” former India captain Virat Kohli said in an Instagram story.

Shikhar Dhawan’s alluring strokeplay and exceptional capacity for scoring runs perfectly filled that void. Additionally, Dhawan displays flamboyance in both his on-field play and demeanour.

Dhawan, who goes by the name Gabbar, has won the hearts of innumerable individuals with his endearing personality. On the field, he frequently shows his happiness by slapping his thighs in the kabaddi style and twirling his moustache.

Perhaps Dhawan’s upbringing in Delhi gave him a son of the soil machismo.

But Dhawan’s outstanding Test debut in 2013 solidified his position on the Indian team. Dhawan has demonstrated consistency throughout a ten-year period in both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and international cricket.

The opener, one of India’s most beloved cricketers, is known for his incredible ability to score runs. Dhawan scored the most significant runs for India in the 2013 Champions Trophy, the 2015 World Cup, and the 2017 Champions Trophy. He is also the first player to score two consecutive centuries in the Indian Premier League.

After players at a state-level tournament were reportedly handed food from a toilet in Saharanpur, veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan asked the Uttar Pradesh government to take strict action.

Dhawan came to know disturbing news about the disrespectful treatment of young Kabaddi players at the state-level competition. The renowned Indian cricketer expressed his opinions on Twitter on Wednesday in the wake of the tragic incident.

The star of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and veteran Indian batter has requested the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate the issue.

The prominent batter posted the viral video of the incident and tweeted “This is very disheartening to see Kabaddi players at State level tournament having food in toilet. Would request @myogiadityanath & @UPGovtSports to look into the same and take necessary action”.

According to recent developments, Saharanpur’s regional sports officer has been suspended by the Uttar Pradesh government due to the incident. Saharanpur District Magistrate Akhilesh Singh commanded an investigation. The UP sports department has been ordered to take strong action against the contractors and officers by Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.

The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) and the state neither sanctioned the kabaddi competition, according to a report published by PTI citing UP State Kabaddi Association secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. Singh added that the occasion was not listed on the calendar for the year.

“The state’s department of sports organised the competition. Our responsibility was to just offer technical help. We only dispatched few representatives to run the event and the selection committee “Said Singh.
