Vishal Bhardwaj, the director who teamed up with Mangeshkar for the all-time hit “Paani Paani Re” for the 1996 film Maachis, took to Instagram Stories to pay a tribute, posting the song’s audio.

Singer Jaspinder Narula, who received Padma Shri recently, made a heartfelt video singing one of Mangeshkar’s great tracks, Betaab Dil Ki Tamanna, in Hanste Zakhm from 1973.

Actor Jackie Shroff paid tributes to the veteran singer as he posted an excerpt of Lag Ja Gale from an old Hindi movie on his handle X and added, “Forever in our hearts.”

National Tributes

As homage, the Indian Prime Minister paid an obituary on her demise along with the cultural institutions in India. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting wrote that “Her Voice in time is still sounding into the hearts of millions.”

The National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) referred to her as the “Voice of the Millennium.” Doordarshan wrote her song melodies as “weaving magic, keeping her music legacy alive in every note and heart.

“It’s Mudda’ vs ‘Modi:” TMC’s Shatrughan Sinha On LS Elections 2024

Amid the ongoing last phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024 Veteran actor and TMC candidate from Asansol Lok Sabha seat, Shatrughan Sinha on Saturday showed confidence in the impending victory of the ‘INDIA bloc’.

Sinha rejected the assertions that the ruling party had won a landslide, claiming that the BJP’s alleged 400 seats were only a front.
Sinha presented the election as a fight between “Mudda” (issues) and “Modi,” emphasizing the crucial decision between “issues” and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s record.

“I have complete confidence that the INDIA bloc will win. No matter what the ‘Godi’ media or ‘Modi’ media says, their talk of 400 seats is just a show-off. It’s Mudda’ vs ‘Modi (issues versus PM Modi). On one side are the issues, and on the other is Modi’s failed promises,” Sinha said.

Citing unfulfilled promises, Sinha criticized PM Modi’s tenure, alleging a lack of credibility due to the failure to deliver on commitments made to the electorate.
“My friend, the Prime Minister, hasn’t fulfilled a single guarantee he made. He gave many promises but did not fulfil any. People are asking if he has fulfilled any of his previous guarantees. PM Modi has lost his credibility,” Sinha said.

Drawing from his political experience, Sinha expressed confidence in the electoral success of the ‘INDIA bloc’, predicting a comfortable majority for the coalition.

“I can say that this time the INDIA bloc will have a comfortable majority. It looks like the BJP might not even cross 200 or 150 seats,” Sinha said.

The race in the Asansol constituency is between SS Ahluwalia of the BJP and Shatrughan Sinha of the TMC.

With 34 seats, the TMC won the most electoral spoils in the state during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, while the BJP was only able to secure 2 seats. Two and four seats were won by the CPI(M) and the Congress, respectively.

But in a vote shock that few anticipated, the BJP upset the ruling TMC in the 2019 elections, taking 18 seats. The state’s ruling party now only has 22 members. With just two seats, the Congress came in a pitiful third place, while the Left Front only had one member left.

As per the ECI, Himachal Pradesh recorded a high voter turnout at 48.63 per cent till 1 pm.
Other states where polling is underway in the sixth phase are Bihar- 35.65 per cent, Chandigarh–40.14 per cent, Jharkhand–46.80 per cent, Odisha–37.64 per cent, Punjab–37.80 per cent, Uttar Pradesh–39.31 and West Bengal–45.07 per cent.
The seventh and final phase of polling in the largest festival of democracy started on Saturday at 7 am in the last 57 parliamentary constituencies across seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

According to the Election Commission of India, over 10.06 crore electors including approximately 5.24 crore male, 4.82 crore female and 3574 third gender electors are expected to exercise their franchise.

The Odisha State Legislative Assembly’s 42 remaining assembly constituencies are currently holding polls.
Exit poll results will be shown on multiple TV stations following the polls.
Exit polls are prohibited by the Election Commission from 7 a.m. on April 19 to 6:30 p.m. on June 1 till the end of polling. On Thursday, the intense campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections concluded.
In the course of the protracted campaign for the seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi conducted over 200 campaign events in 75 days, including roadshows and rallies. He conducted multiple interviews as well.
More than a hundred demonstrations and public engagement events, including Nyay Sammelans and Nyay Manch’ in Lok Sabha Elections.

Polling for the earlier six phases of Lok Sabha elections was held on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20 and May 25. Assembly polls have also been held in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Odisha is also seeing simultaneous polls to Lok Sabha and assembly in the last four phases.

SS Ahluwalia set to take on Shatrughan Sinha in Asansol Lok Sabha seat

On Wednesday, Surendrajeet Singh Ahluwalia, a former Union Minister, put forth his nomination as the BJP’s contender for the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal.

Ahluwalia’s name was among the nine in the tenth Lok Sabha candidates list announced by the BJP.

Initially, the party nominated Pawan Singh for Asansol, but later he withdrew his candidacy without providing a reason and is now considering running independently from Karakat in Bihar.

Ahluwalia, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Burdwan-Durgapur, will be challenged by prominent Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Satrughan Sinha. In the 2019 election, Ahluwalia secured victory with a margin of 2,439 votes, garnering 598,376 votes to defeat TMC candidate Mamtaz Sanghamita.

From September 15, 1995, to May 16, 1996, Ahluwalia held the position of Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Affairs and Employment (Department of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation) in the P V Narasimha Rao ministry. Additionally, from June 2010 to May 2012, he served as the deputy opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha.

Ahluwalia was a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Bihar and Jharkhand from 1986 to 2012. He became a member of the BJP in 1999, and with strong support from the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, he won the 2014 Lok Sabha election from the Darjeeling constituency.

The Bhojpuri artist Pawan Singh was previously nominated by the party for the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency; however, the TMC severely criticized Singh’s candidacy. Following accusations from the ruling party that some of his songs were disparaging of women, Pawan Singh declared his intention to withdraw from the election.

Polling in West Bengal’s 42 parliamentary constituencies will occur over seven phases: April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. Asansol will participate in the polls on May 13, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.

As Sonakshi Sinha turned 36, the proud father and veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha showered his love and shared a special social media post for her on Friday.

Taking to Twitter, Shatrughan who shares a great bond with his daughter dropped a string of pictures and also gave a shoutout to her new web series, ‘Dahaad’. Sharing the pictures, he wrote, “How beautiful. times have gone by. On this great & auspicious day loads of love for the apple of our eye, for another wonderful year of fun, entertainment & great achievements. We are all so very proud of your strength & everything.”

Sharing her birthday plans this year, Sonakshi had recently told News Agency, “For the last 5-6 years I have been travelling on my birthday… I like to take a break and like to spend time with a few close friends of mine. I have been following this ritual for the past several years. I am currently in the middle of a shoot…so this birthday I can go only close by. I might go to Alibaug or Lonavala. However, I have not decided yet.”

The Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra ended in Jammu and Kashmir last week. Praising Bihar Deputy Chief Minister, he said, “Tejashwi Yadav is doing good, he has gained much experience. He is seen as the future of Bihar. To become Chief Minister or Prime Minister, qualification is not needed, one only needs support. I don’t believe PM was selling tea, this is only for creating propaganda.”

Union Budget 2023: Opposition criticises the new budget

While the salaried class is happy with the new tax slab that are introduced in the budget 2023, the opposition is not much liking the simplified budget. One of the firsts to react was Bihar Deputy Chief Minister, Tejashwi Yadav. He said, “Bihar is a backward state. The PM and the centre had made commitments to grant Bihar a special package and status several times before. I do not think anything of this sort will be done. They have only fooled us. Let us see what is being done for Bihar in the budget.”

The deputy chief minister also compared the previous budgets with the ones presented by the BJP-led government now. Comparing this budget with the previous ones, he added, “There is a lot of difference between previous budgets and the budget now. During UPA’s time, there was a separate railway budget. The present government has totally removed the railway budget. Now the common budget is small without any detailing. The people should be clearly told about the revenue and the expenditure. People should be told where the money is coming from and where is it going.”

Actor and Politician Shatrughan Sinha targeted the government and said, “The budget was presented keeping in mind the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and there was nothing special mention for the middle-class people. Looking at the budget, it seems as if it has been created to specially care about the ‘Hum Do Humare Do’ as it is evident from the significantly reduced highest slab for Income Tax payers. People understand it well whom have they done it for.” Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during the Budget session today, announced an increase in the income tax rebate limit from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh stating that the new tax regime will now be the default tax regime.

Further, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee slammed the government over its changed income tax slab and said, “Changes in income tax slabs will not help anyone.”

Reacting to the Budget 2023, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh tweeted, “Last year’s Budget drew applause for allocation towards agriculture, health, education, MGNREGA & welfare of SCs. Today the reality is evident. Actual expenditure is substantially lower than budgeted. This is Modi’s OPUD strategy of headline management—Over Promise, Under Deliver.”

LUV SINHA DREAMS OF BEING A PART OF THE REMAKE OF HIS FATHER’S ‘VISHWANATH’

As the year draws to a close, actors all over the industry are sharing their thoughts about this tumultuous year as well as their aspirations for the year that is about to begin. Luv Sinha also took to social media to share his thoughts about what his hopes and dreams for 2021 are.

The young actor who believes in doing something different hopes to play a “supervillain” in the next year. Movie heroes are always memorable, but it takes a true artist to leave an impression on the audience when they play the role of a villain. Gabbar from Sholay, a character of Dawood Ibrahim from the Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai movies, Alauddin Khilji from Padmaavat, were all incredibly impactful and strong villains, who left a lasting impact on viewers. And this is exactly what Luv hopes to achieve.

In the caption of the post he shared on Instagram he mentioned, “I have written this before but my dream role is to play supervillain or anti-hero putting this out there I would love to play the negative lead in Krrish 4 or play the lead role in the remake of Vishwanath #2021 goals”.

Junior Shotgun also plans on working on the remake of Vishwanath, a film extremely close to his heart as his father Shatrughan Sinha starred in it.
