Communal Tensions Rise in Udaipur After Class 10 Student Stabs Schoolmate; Internet Closed

Communal tensions surged in the Madhuban area of Udaipur, Rajasthan, following the stabbing of a Class 10 student by a fellow student at a government school on Friday. Officials reported that the situation escalated significantly in the evening, leading to the closure of markets in Bapu Bazar, Hathipole, Ghanta Ghar, Chetak Circle, and surrounding areas. To manage the unrest, prohibitory orders under Section 144 were enforced, and the district administration decided to shut down the internet for 24 hours starting at 10 p.m. tonight.

Incident Details and Initial Response

The exact cause of the stabbing at the Government Higher Secondary School in Bhattiyani Chohatta remains unclear. The injured student, now in stable condition in the ICU, was initially rumored to have died from the attack. This misinformation led to widespread arson and vandalism, with several vehicles set on fire. In response to the violence, Section 144 was imposed in Udaipur to maintain public order and safety. Authorities are actively investigating the incident.

Official Statements and Actions

District Collector Arvind Poswal confirmed that the injured student is stable and being treated in the ICU. The accused student and his father have been arrested. Poswal urged residents to refrain from spreading false rumors and assured them that the situation is under control and closely monitored.

The stabbing occurred in the Surajpol police station area, where one student repeatedly stabbed another in the thigh with a knife. A school teacher promptly took the victim to MB Hospital. The District Education Officer and local police arrived at the scene, where panic spread due to false reports of the student’s death.

The false death rumor incited anger among local residents, who gathered at the hospital demanding strict action. This unrest led to the closure of markets and further incidents of violence, including the burning of at least three cars and stone-pelting by members of various Hindu groups.

Police and Administrative Measures

In response to the escalating unrest, additional police forces, including IPS Rajendra Prasad Goyal, were deployed to restore order. The Police Headquarters in Jaipur, including Director General of Police (DGP) UR Sahu and Additional Director General (ADG) Law and Order Vishal Bansal, monitored the situation closely. They instructed Udaipur Range officers to take immediate action against those inciting violence and to maintain public harmony.

Kolkata Police Have Clamped Section 144 To Hamper PM’s Rally, Says WB BJP President

West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar claimed on Saturday that Kolkata Police imposed Section 144 of CrPC in Central Kolkata to disrupt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally scheduled for May 28 and to instill fear in the populace.

Majumdar remarked, “Kolkata police have clamped section 144 and said that it’s routine. I think it has been implemented to hamper the Prime Minister’s rally and to induce fear in the people.”

He emphasized that the PM’s roadshow will be historic, with an estimated attendance of around 2 lakh people. “On May 28, the PM will have a historical roadshow in Kolkata. Bengal’s culture will be presented there. We are getting reports that approx 2 lakh people will attend the rally,” Majumdar said.

The Kolkata Police clarified on Friday that the May 22 order imposing Section 144 of CrPC in a specific area of Central Kolkata was a routine measure, not affecting the entire city. This response came after the BJP accused the police of imposing the section to hinder participation in the PM’s roadshow.

Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur criticized the move, posting on X, “A desperate Mamata Banerjee imposing prohibitory order all across Kolkata to prevent people of West Bengal from attending the meeting of PM Shri Narendra Modi on May 28, is a clear sign of the INDI alliance having conceded defeat and conspiring somehow to disrupt the electoral process. Where are Rahul Gandhi and the pretenders of the ‘Save Constitution’ gang who beat their chest? INDI gang is going to be permanently wiped away. Do you think such antics will stop the Modi wave?”

BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya echoed this sentiment, stating, “A scared Mamata Banerjee has ordered Kolkata Police to impose Section 144 for a period of 60 days starting from 28th May 2024 to 26th July 2024. The greater Kolkata region is to poll on 1st Jun and Prime Minister Modi is to hold a roadshow in the city on 28th May. Aware of her slipping political capital in the Kolkata region, Mamata Banerjee is doing what she does best – hiding behind Kolkata Police.”

In response, Kolkata Police urged against spreading false information, posting on X, “Kolkata Police issues 144 Cr PC order in vicinity of Dalhousie and Victoria house on regular basis. This is nothing new and such orders are renewed every two months. Copies of previous orders attached. So please refrain from spreading misleading information.”

Pakistan: Section 144 implemented in Pishin before the opposition’s gathering

Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been implemented in Pishin before the planned joint opposition gathering on April 13, ARY News reported.

The Deputy Commissioner of Pishin notified saying, “Section 144 has been imposed to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.”

This regulation prohibits gatherings of more than five people within the city and strictly forbids the obstruction of main highways and roads, ARY News said.

This action comes in response to the declaration made by the recently established Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aaeen (Constitution Protection Movement), comprising six opposition parties, to organize a public event in Pishin.

The alliance, chaired by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, named itself “Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aaeen” against the government.

In a meeting hosted by Balochistan National Party (BNP) leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal, and attended by Omar Ayub from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Sahibzada Hamid Raza representing the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Mahmood Khan Achakzai from the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Allama Nasir Abbas of Majlis-e-Wadhat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), and Liaquat Baloch of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), it was agreed that Mahmood Achakzai would head the coordination committee.

Amidst protests by AAP workers over the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi police have increased security measures in the national capital to prevent potential disturbances. Highlighting the heightened security, authorities stressed the importance of maintaining law and order, particularly around the court premises.

“We have implemented strict security measures to prevent any law and order issues. Security concerns around the court have also been addressed,” said DCP Central, M. Harshavardhan.

“We need to ensure law and order. ITO is a busy junction with heavy traffic, so security measures have been put in place to prevent congestion,” he added.

Vigilance has also been increased outside the Rouse Avenue court, a potential gathering spot for large crowds, according to the police official.

“Section 144 has been imposed at the DDU Marg, as it is not a designated protest site and houses many vital installations and important offices,” said DCP Central M. Harshavardhan.
Additionally, the ITO metro station has been temporarily closed, and security has been heightened outside ITO amid protests by AAP leaders.

“On the advice of Delhi Police, ITO Metro station will remain closed from 08:00 AM to 06:00 PM today i.e., 22nd March 2024,” informed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in a post.

Section 144 reimposed around Sandeshkhali village, West Bengal

The West Bengal government has reenforced Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) within a 500-meter radius of seven gram panchayats, including Sandeshkhali, to maintain law and order amidst the BJP’s protests over allegations of sexual harassment in the area. The imposition of Section 144 will remain in effect until February 19.

The decision to reimpose Section 144 comes after the Calcutta High Court had earlier lifted the prohibitory orders imposed under the same section. The BJP’s agitation in Sandeshkhali block regarding the alleged sexual harassment of women sparked a political storm, leading to clashes between police personnel and BJP supporters in Basirhat.

The clashes occurred when BJP workers, led by state chief Sukanta Majumdar, attempted to hold a protest despite the prohibitory orders near the SP’s office in Basirhat. The situation escalated as protesters broke through barricades, prompting the police to resort to lathi-charge to disperse them. Several workers, including Sukanta Majumdar, were detained but later released.

The agitation in Sandeshkhali began due to alleged atrocities committed against women by TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh and his associates. After his release, Sukanta Majumdar accused the police of misbehaving with women party workers and stated, “The police detained us and party workers… The police misbehaved even with the women workers of the party… We will take the police to court… They treated us like thieves or criminals… The police do not obey the Constitution of the CrPC, they only listen to Mamata Banerjee.”

Majumdar had earlier alleged that TMC workers, including Sheikh Shahjahan, Shibu Hajra, and Uttam Sardar, had been raping women in Sandeshkhali for months. He stated, “In Sandeshkhali, TMC workers have been raping women for months now – Sheikh Shahjahan, Shibu Hajra, and Uttam Sardar are raping them. We had come to the SP peacefully with the demand to arrest them. If they do not arrest them in Sandeshkhali, how will the women in Sandeshkhali gain confidence?”

Locals, particularly women, have been protesting in Sandeshkhali, demanding the arrest of TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh in an alleged land ration allotment scam and the alleged rape incidents.

Section 144 imposed, 40 arrested after stone pelting during Eid Milad procession in Shivamogga

Meghalaya aids in safe return of stranded citizens from Manipur

The government of Meghalaya stated that it is evacuating its citizens, including students, due to the ongoing violence in Manipur.

The Meghalaya government is bringing its stranded people out of ongoing violence in Manipur with the use of special flights. It includes 60 students and 25 members of the Lajong football team, among others.

The Meghalaya government took all necessary safety measures in collaboration with various government agencies to ensure the passengers’ safety throughout the journey.

More than 25 citizens were on their way to Meghalaya via Guwahati on different flights. Along with flights, special buses are bringing over 60 students to Meghalaya, as of Friday noon.

Additionally, Meghalaya has also launched a helpline for citizens who may require further assistance. The helpline number is 1800-345-3644, and citizens can call for any kind of assistance they may need.

Section 144 was imposed in all districts of Uttar Pradesh following the deaths of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf

Karnataka: Section 144 of CrPC imposed in Shorapur constituency of Yadgir

After a clash broke out between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress supporters on April 6, section 144 of CrPC on Friday has been imposed in the Shorapur constituency of Yadgir district for two days.

We demand an investigation by the CBI and sitting judges otherwise the truth will remain hidden,” She stated.

Jharkhand: Section 144 imposed after two groups clashed in Palamu

A clash erupted between two groups of people over installation of a “Toran gate” aka entry gate, in a market in Palamu district, Jharkhand on Wednesday. The incident happened in Panki village of the district.

After the incident, Section 144 imposed in Panki and over 100 personnel have been deployed to maintain peace. Apart from them, the police officials from Tarhasi, Pipratand and Lesliganj are also present at the scene.

West Bengal Minister for Women and Child Development, Shashi Panja on Wednesday condemned the Dumka incident and said it is horrifying.

Earlier on 23 August, Shahrukh allegedly poured petrol on a 16-year-old girl Ankita through the window while she was sleeping and set her ablaze. She died on 28 August after fighting for five days in a hospital.

“What happened in Dumka is very shocking and unacceptable. The way she was burnt is horrifying. We want the culprit to be punished and Law should take its own course,” Shashi Panja said.

Meanwhile, a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been ordered by the Jharkhand government to oversee the investigation. After severe protests by locals, the Jharkhand government took this step and the Superintendent of Police will head the investigation.

However, after severe protests in Dumka Section 144 has been enforced. The Dumka police have arrested the accused Shahrukh and one of his accomplices.

“Section 144 will remain enforced. As of now, the situation is under control and peaceful. A decision to remove section 144 will be taken after reviewing the situation. Dumka Killing: Deceased Ankita cremated; Section 144 imposed

Ankita Singh, who succumbed to injuries after being set ablaze by a boy for rejecting his proposal was cremated on Monday.

Earlier on August 23, the accused Shahrukh was arrested. People of Dumka protested after the Class 12 girl was set ablaze and died on 28 August. Section 144 has been imposed in Dumka.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren said, “Such people should not be forgiven, they should be given the strictest of punishments. Laws should be brought in to further strengthen the existing laws for such incidents.”

“A lot of evil acts are being seen in society. This incident is heart-wrenching and the law is taking its course. The accused has been arrested. It is our effort to see that he is punished at the earliest,” Soren added.

Former Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das said, “It is very shameful for Jahrakhand the way that boy entered the girl’s house, poured petrol, and set her ablaze. There have been thousands of crimes against women in Jharkhand after Hemant Soren became Chief Minister. There are love jihad cases also among the tribal population. The people from Bangladesh are entering and marrying innocent tribal girls and usurping their land.”

Questioning the state administration for the death of the girl union minister Arjun Munda said, “Who is responsible for such incidents? Were appropriate measures taken to save the victim or not? If the victim dies, how will the guilty be punished? The state government should answer on all these subjects and to maintain the confidence of the public, the government should give a statement that what is the law and order situation for these incidents which are happening in Jharkhand.”

Dumka’s SP Ambar Lakda said, “The accused Shahrukh has been arrested. We’ll apply at fast track court for a fast trial. People are cooperating with us. We appeal to people to maintain peace. The situation is under control and Sec 144 has been imposed.”

Reacting to the matter, Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta said, “The state government is serious regarding the murder of a girl in Dumka. Stringent action will be taken against perpetrators. We will ensure a fast trial. We have talked to DC in this regard,” Gupta said.

Moreover, on the Dumka incident, NCW takes cognizance and said, “Since arrest already made we asked Jharkhand DGP for action taken report. There’s a mindset that you forcefully ask a woman to marry you&if she refuses, set her ablaze-it’s pathetic. There should be conversation on this,” said the NCW chief on the death of a girl after being set ablaze in Dumka.

However, on 23 August accused Shahrukh poured petrol on Ankita and set her ablaze when she was asleep. Ankita Kumari was a student of class 12 and allegedly turned down his proposal. Kumari was first admitted to Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital in Dumka in critical condition and later she was referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Ranchi.

A 23 year old killed in Karnataka, section 144 imposed

A 23-year-old boy was killed in Mangaluru on Thursday on the outskirts. The attackers are unidentified as reported by the police.

The deceased was attacked with detrimental weapons and have been identified as Fazl. At Surathkal, Mulki, Bajpe, and Panambur, Section 144 has been implemented following the incident.

The Mangaluru Police Commissioner, N Shashi Kumar, reported, “At around 8 pm (on July 28), there was an incident where a 23-year-old boy was brutally attacked by 4-5 people near Krishnapura Katipalla road, Surathkal. The boy was immediately shifted to a hospital and was declared dead.”

Up to July 19, all wineries operating within the Commissionerate’s boundaries have been ordered to close.

In the larger interest of the law and order of every locality, the Mangaluru Commission said, “We have requested all Muslim leaders to perform their prayers at their homes.” Due justice will be done quickly and fairly.”

Ahead of Independence Day, Section-144 has been imposed in Delhi given the possibility of a terrorist attack by a drone or other aerial object on the occasion of August 15. Meanwhile, preparations for Independence Day are in full swing in the capital Delhi.

According to the police, some criminals, anti-social elements, or anti-India terrorists may pose a threat to the security of the general public and dignitaries by using sub-conventional aerial platforms.

Moreover, these orders given by the Commissioner of Police will continue from July 22 to August 16. Under this, any kind of small-sized powered aircraft, quad-copters, and even para-jumping from aircraft have been banned.

However, a team of police will keep an eye on all the activities. If any person is found violating the orders, strict action will be taken against them.
