Election Timeline

Delhi is due for assembly elections in February next year, but Mr. Kejriwal has urged for elections to be held earlier, in November, along with the Maharashtra polls. Mr. Sisodia, a former Deputy Chief Minister, has also indicated that he will seek a fresh mandate from the people before returning to the top office, signaling that both leaders are unlikely to be in the running for the position of interim Chief Minister.

Atishi

One of the top contenders is Atishi, a Delhi Minister who oversees significant departments like education and public works. Atishi, a Rhodes scholar and Oxford graduate, has played a vital role in AAP’s reforms in Delhi’s education sector. As an MLA from Kalkaji, she became a minister after Sisodia’s arrest over corruption allegations related to the liquor policy. Raghav Chadha

Another prominent name is Raghav Chadha, a Rajya Sabha MP and one of the youngest faces of the AAP. Sanjay Singh: Kejriwal Orders Strict Action After Assault On Swati Maliwal At CM Residence

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh spoke out against an alleged attack on their Rajya Sabha MP, Swati Maliwal. He stated that Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has acknowledged the incident and ordered a strong response. Singh explained that Maliwal was reportedly mistreated by Arvind Kejriwal’s personal assistant, Vibhav Kumar, at the CM’s residence. Maliwal has notified the Delhi Police about the incident, but they haven’t received a formal complaint yet. Singh assured their support to Maliwal in this matter.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Municipal Corporation House meeting faced disruptions as BJP councillors protested against Maliwal’s alleged assault and demanded a Dalit mayor appointment. They held banners and chanted slogans against Arvind Kejriwal. After the chaos, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi criticized the BJP councillors for hindering discussions and committees’ formation in the MCD.

‘Arvind Kejriwal will remain Delhi’s CM’: AAP Leader Sanjay Singh

Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh affirmed that Arvind Kejriwal will continue to serve as the Chief Minister of Delhi, following the Delhi High Court’s statement regarding the incommunicado status of a chief minister in the MCD textbook case. Singh attributed the disruption in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) work to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena over the standing committee issue.

The LG secretariat declined to comment on AAP’s accusations, while the BJP deemed the court’s decision as a sign for the chief minister to resign in the public’s interest, labeling it a “black day in Delhi’s history.”

In response to the court’s order, a senior MCD official disclosed that preparations are underway to provide notebooks, stationery, school bags, and uniforms to approximately 650,000 students, with an estimated expenditure of around ₹70 crore. Each student is expected to receive a subsidy of about Rs. 1,100, and measures are being taken to enroll students without bank accounts for direct subsidy transfers.

Regarding the distribution of NCERT textbooks, the official stated that while textbooks for classes 1 to 3 have been updated, those for classes 4 and 5 remain unchanged. The textbooks are procured through the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, with distribution set to begin upon receiving the next batch of books.

Regarding other pending works due to the non-formation of the standing committee, the official mentioned that the corporation’s law department will review the court’s order.

In a press conference, Sanjay Singh asserted, “It is the decision of the people of Delhi and its MLAs that Arvind Kejriwal is, was, and will remain the chief minister.” He highlighted a previous survey conducted in Delhi that showed unanimous support for Kejriwal as the Chief Minister.

Singh emphasized Kejriwal’s democratic rights and criticized what he described as the central government and BJP’s dictatorship. He mentioned that a proposal was passed in the assembly, reaffirming support for Kejriwal’s leadership even if he were jailed, ensuring the government would continue to function.

Lok Sabha polls: AAP Launches ‘Aapka Ram Rajya’ Website Highlighting the Party’s Work

In celebration of Ram Navami and as part of the Lok Sabha election preparations, the Aam Aadmi Party unveiled a website on Wednesday called “Aap ka Ram Rajya.” This platform highlights the party’s work being done in Delhi and Punjab, inspired by the principles of Ram Rajya.

Today, senior leaders of the party, including Sanjay Singh, Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Jasmine Shah, held a press conference and launched the website. MP Sanjay Singh stated that the Aam Aadmi Party’s administrations in Delhi and Punjab have undertaken work that is being cited as an example by countries globally.

“In these 10 years, we not only formed the government thrice in Delhi but also formed the government in Punjab with an overwhelming majority. The Kejriwal government in Delhi and the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab have done such work, whose examples are being given by the countries of the world today. Delhi is the only state that has a profitable budget despite doing so much work. We are determined to fulfil our vision of Ram Rajya on the ground,” Sanjay Singh stated.

“Those who want to see our imagination of Ram Rajya must visit our website. What work have we done in Delhi and Punjab? You can see all that and then join us,” he added.

Additionally, AAP minister Atishi remarked that just as Lord Ram endured many hardships for Ram Rajya, Arvind Kejriwal has similarly faced challenges to deliver on the commitments made to the citizens of Delhi and Punjab.

“Being inspired by Ram Charit Manas, Kejriwal ji has said that he has been working for the last 9 years to fulfil the promises made by him to the people of Delhi and Punjab. Lord Ram had to face a struggle to fulfil Ram Rajya. He went into exile for 14 years but did not break his promise. Kejriwal also had to go through a similar struggle,” she stated.

Atishi also highlighted that the party’s launch of the Ram Rajya-based website was to demonstrate to the nation’s people the potential outcomes of casting their votes wisely.

“He (Kejriwal) sends a message from jail, asking if the water, electricity, and health arrangements in Delhi are fine or not. Kejriwal considers the two crore people of Delhi as his family. The work we have done in Delhi and Punjab is being shown to the entire country through the website ‘Aapka Ram Rajya’. We are doing this so that the people of the country can be told how their lives can change if they cast their vote at the right place,” she further added.

Punjab CM Mann and Sanjay Singh unable to meet Delhi CM Kejriwal in Tihar Jail today

Bhagwant Mann and Sanjay Singh, the Chief Minister of Punjab and an Aam Aadmi Party MP respectively, won’t be able to visit Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar Jail on Wednesday, citing security concerns as per the Tihar Jail administration. The meeting appointment for Bhagwant Mann and Sanjay Singh with Arvind Kejriwal was initially set for Tuesday, but now the Tihar Jail administration will reschedule it for a later time.

Earlier, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging the trial court’s decision to arrest and detain him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was dismissed by the Delhi High Court on Tuesday. Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma acknowledged the ED’s argument that there was sufficient evidence to justify Kejriwal’s arrest.

Sanjay Singh: BJP cannot win in Delhi, till the time Kejrival is there

Accusing that Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has been incarcerated based on “fabricated accusations,” Sanjay Singh, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, asserted on Sunday that as long as Kejriwal remains in power, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not come to power in the national capital.

Singh criticized the BJP, alleging that the party has embraced “corrupt individuals” and questioned if the Prime Minister himself could be subjected to questioning under similar circumstances. He emphasized that the arrest of an elected chief minister like Kejriwal on unsubstantiated grounds reflects a conspiracy. Singh vowed that the people will respond strongly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.

Despite challenges, Singh affirmed the resilience of the Aam Aadmi Party and its workers. Regarding the Lok Sabha campaign in other states, Singh expressed readiness pending court approval. Reacting to Narendra Modi’s remarks about political shifts in Bihar, Singh highlighted the socialist ethos of the state and criticized Nitish Kumar’s decision to leave the alliance.

Singh also questioned why the Chief Minister of Manipur hasn’t resigned despite ongoing turmoil in the state. He stressed the importance of a unified manifesto and strategy for the opposition bloc and highlighted the need to communicate this effectively to the public.

Recently granted bail, Sanjay Singh spent six months in jail following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam. Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia are also in judicial custody related to the same case, with Kejriwal’s custody extended until April 15.

“Blow to politics of vendetta”: D Raja on Sanjay Singh’s bail

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh in a money laundering case related to the excise policy, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja remarked that it serves as a fitting response to the Central government and expressed optimism that others may also receive bail. He stated, “It is a blow to the politics of vendetta being pursued by the Union Government. This will give hope that others will also get bail and will be released. Truth will triumph and justice will prevail.”

During a hearing on Singh’s plea challenging his arrest and remand in the money laundering case, the top court issued the ruling. A bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna directed the release of Sanjay Singh on bail pending trial in the excise policy irregularities case.

Responding to the court’s inquiry about the need for further custody of AAP leader Sanjay Singh in the excise policy case, the Enforcement Directorate informed the apex court that it had no objection to Singh being granted bail. The court noted that Sanjay Singh had already spent six months in jail.

The Supreme Court was hearing AAP leader Sanjay Singh’s plea against the Delhi High Court’s refusal to grant him bail in the excise policy irregularities case. Sanjay Singh had approached the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court’s order dated February 7, 2024. He had moved the High Court when his bail plea was dismissed by the trial court on December 22, 2023.

Sanjay Singh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on October 4, 2023, in connection with the case. According to the ED, Sanjay Singh was accused of involvement in creating a special purpose vehicle to launder the proceeds of crime generated from business arising out of the policy changes, as allegedly conspired by him and his co-conspirators.

Arvind Kejriwal’s morning begins with tea, breakfast in Tihar jail

As per reports, Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, who was remanded to 15-day judicial custody on April 1 due to his involvement in the now-defunct liquor policy case, commenced his morning in Tihar Jail, adhering to the prison’s regulations. He began his day with tea and breakfast.

A Delhi court had ordered Kejriwal’s 15-day judicial custody in the excise policy case, directing his stay in Tihar Jail until April 15. He has been granted permission to have home-cooked meals and carry prescribed medications for his diabetes.

Kejriwal is currently housed in Jail Number 2 of Tihar Jail, provided with an isolation room equipped with a table and chair for three books, as per the court’s directive. Despite the limited space, he slept on a separate bed from the regular ones provided by the authorities, reportedly without any complaints.

Officials noted that Kejriwal kept his medical devices, including a sugar sensor and glucometer, along with isabgol, glucose, and toffees on his table, following the court’s instructions to manage sudden fluctuations in his blood sugar levels.

On Tuesday, Kejriwal rose early and received breakfast and tea at 6:40 am. After an early lunch, he was required to return to his cell by noon and stay there until 3 pm.

Kejriwal was transferred to jail on Monday afternoon following the conclusion of his Enforcement Directorate custodial remand. The ED depicted him as the main figure in the alleged scam, accusing him of providing evasive responses and withholding relevant information during the investigation.

This isn’t Kejriwal’s first time in Tihar jail; he was previously incarcerated in 2014 after refusing to post bail of Rs 10,000 in a defamation case filed against him by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.

Other AAP leaders currently detained in Tihar include Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, and Sanjay Singh. Additionally, K Kavitha, a leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, is also housed in Tihar jail.

Court acknowledges ED’s second complaint, issues fresh summons to Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi liquor case

The Rouse Avenue Court, on Thursday, acknowledged the Enforcement Directorate’s second complaint and issued fresh summons to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his physical appearance before the court on March 16. The ED moved the court with a second complaint alleging non-compliance with summons in the Delhi liquor policy money laundering case.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra passed the order, stating, “The Enforcement Directorate has moved a second complaint against Arvind Kejriwal under Section 190 (1)(a) CrPC r/w section 200 CrPC 1973 r/w section 174 IPC, 1860 r/w section 63 (4) of PMLA, 2002 for non-attendance in compliance with Section 50, PMLA, 2002.”

Earlier, the ED had filed a complaint against Kejriwal, and the court had issued summons. Kejriwal appeared virtually and expressed his intent to join the court proceedings physically. The court granted an exemption for the day and set March 16 for his physical appearance.

On the first ED complaint, the Rouse Avenue Court had taken cognizance on February 7 this year. Kejriwal had agreed to appear virtually after March 12, calling the ED summons “illegal.” The ED aims to record Kejriwal’s statement on policy formulation, meetings, and bribery allegations.

In the Delhi liquor policy money laundering case, the AAP has been accused of using kickbacks for its Goa assembly elections campaign. The policy was scrapped after an alleged probe into irregularities. AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are already in judicial custody in the case. Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26, while Singh, a Rajya Sabha member, was arrested by the ED on October 5.

“Delhi Court Acknowledges ED’s Complaint, Summons Kejriwal in Excise Case”

On Wednesday, the Rouse Avenue Court heard the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) latest charge against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for failing to comply with the central probe agency’s summons in the Delhi liquor policy money laundering case.
Divya Malhotra, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, took cognizance of the case and summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to appear in court on February 17.

The ED filed a new complaint case on Saturday under sections 190 (1)(a) and 200 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 63 (4) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) for non-compliance with Section 50 of the PMLA.
On February 2, Kejriwal ignored the Enforcement Directorate’s summons for the seventh time in connection with the money laundering investigation into irregularities in the Delhi excise policy 2021-22 case. The new summons to the Delhi Chief Minister follows the fourth summons, which he ignored on January 18.

The party claimed that omitting the fifth summons was “unlawful.”
Kejriwal has so far ignored four earlier summons issued by the ED on January 18, January 3, November 2, and December 22, claiming they were “illegal and politically motivated.”
According to the ED, the agency wants to record Kejriwal’s statement in the case about policy formation, discussions held before it was completed, and charges of bribery.
The ED alleged in its sixth charge sheet filed in the case on December 2, 2023, citing AAP leader Sanjay Singh and his aide Sarvesh Mishra, that the AAP used kickbacks worth Rs 45 crore generated under the scheme as part of their Goa assembly election campaign in 2022.

The excise policy was designed to revitalize the city’s struggling liquor industry by substituting a sales-volume-based system with a license charge for merchants. It promised swankier stores and an improved shopping experience. For the first time in Delhi, the policy included discounts and special offers on booze purchases.
The initiative was scrapped after Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena ordered a review into alleged regime irregularities. The AAP accuses Saxena’s predecessor, Anil Baijal, of sabotaging the move with a few last-minute tweaks that resulted in lower-than-expected income.
Two prominent AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are already in judicial detention in the case.

The CBI arrested Sisodia, the then Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister, on February 26 after multiple rounds of questioning. On October 5, the ED arrested Singh, a Rajya Sabha member.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to miss ED summons for fifth time

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to miss the Enforcement Directorate’s summons for the fifth time, relating to the money laundering probe linked to irregularities in the Delhi excise policy 2021-22. This new summons comes after Kejriwal skipped the fourth one on January 18. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) labeled the fifth summons as “unlawful” and emphasized their intention to comply with lawful ones, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of attempting to arrest Kejriwal and destabilize the Delhi government.

Having already avoided four previous summons, Kejriwal, on January 18, January 3, November 2, and December 22, deemed them “illegal and politically motivated.” The ED seeks to record Kejriwal’s statement on aspects like policy formulation, pre-finalization meetings, and bribery allegations. Kejriwal, while skipping the fourth summons, asserted his readiness to cooperate but claimed the agency’s intention was to arrest him and hinder his election campaigning.

Kejriwal stated, “All four notices sent to me (by the ED) are illegal and invalid in the eyes of the law. These notices are being sent as part of a political conspiracy.” The case revolves around irregularities in the Delhi excise policy (2021-22), withdrawn after corruption allegations. In its sixth charge sheet filed on December 2, 2023, the ED alleges that the AAP used kickbacks worth Rs 45 crore from the policy in its campaign for the Goa assembly elections in 2022.

The excise policy aimed at revitalizing Delhi’s liquor business, introducing a license fee system, and providing discounts on liquor purchases. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena’s probe into alleged irregularities led to the policy’s cancellation. Two senior AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are already under judicial custody in the case, with Sisodia arrested by the CBI on February 26 and Singh arrested by the ED on October 5.

Aam Aadmi Party nominates DCW chief Swati Maliwal for Rajya Sabha

AAP’s Political Affairs Committee on Friday nominated senior party member and head of the Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal, for the January 19 Rajya Sabha elections in Delhi. The election of new Rajya Sabha MPs from Delhi will take place on January 19, as the terms of three current members are coming to an end this month. Sanjay Singh, Sushil Kumar Gupta, and Narain Dass Gupta are the three members who will be retiring on January 27. But Sushil Kumar Gupta has stated his intention to shift his focus to Haryana’s electoral politics, and both ND Gupta and imprisoned senior leader Sanjay Singh will be re-nominated, the party said.

ND Gupta is the party treasurer and Sushil Gupta is the AAP President of the Haryana unit. The state is expected to go to polls later this year.
“Chaired by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, the committee decided to endorse two existing members for re-nomination, whereas Sushil Kumar Gupta expressed his intent to redirect his focus towards the electoral politics of Haryana,” the party said.
Swati Maliwal is a women’s rights activist and the current Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW). Before joining DCW, Maliwal worked as the advisor to the Chief Minister of Delhi on public grievances. Maliwal was a core member of the Indian Against Corruption movement.

Maliwal has been linked to a number of campaigns and movements that support gender equality, call for tougher legislation, and fight violence against women. Meanwhile, party leader Sanjay Singh was permitted to sign re-nomination paperwork from jail on Thursday by a Delhi court. Leading Aam Aadmi Party figure Sanjay Singh was detained by the Enforcement Directorate on October 4, 2023, on suspicion of money laundering in connection with the Excise policy case.

After the Union Sports Ministry decided to suspend the country’s premier sports governing body, the newly elected Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), along with all of its office-bearers on Sunday, BJP MP and former WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh declared that he has “retired” from the sport and has “nothing to do with it.” The announcement by Sanjay Singh, the recently elected president of WFI, that Nandini Nagar in the Gond district of Uttar Pradesh will host the U-15 and U-20 national teams by the end of the year closely followed the Sports Ministry’s decision.

After the Union Sports Ministry suspended the newly elected body of WFI, former chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh gave his first reaction to the verdict and said, “The elections were held in a democratic way on the direction of the Supreme Court and the body was formed. Now it’s their (federation members) decision if they wish to talk to the government or take the legal course of action. I have nothing to do with this.”

Delhi Court rejects bail plea of AAP leader Sanjay

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Friday rejected the bail application of AAP leader Sanjay Singh in connection with a money laundering case related to the purported Delhi excise policy scam.
Special Judge M K Nagpal dismissed the bail plea of Sanjay Singh.The court had previously adjourned proceedings on Thursday and said that the verdict on Singh’s bail application would be delivered on December 22, 2023.

During the arguments on Singh’s bail application, his counsel contended that there were inconsistencies in the statements of accused-turned-approver Dinesh Arora and other witnesses regarding payments of bribes to Singh.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed Singh’s application, emphasizing that the investigation was still ongoing and that if granted bail, he could potentially impede the investigation, tamper with evidence, and influence witnesses.

Sanjay Singh was arrested by the anti-money laundering agency on October 4, 2023. The ED alleges that Sanjay Singh played a pivotal role in formulating and executing the now-abandoned 2021-2022 excise policy, which purportedly favored certain liquor manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers in exchange for financial considerations.
Sanjay Singh has consistently refuted these allegations and asserted his innocence.

Delhi Excise policy case: Rouse Avenue court reserves its order on bail plea of AAP’s Sanjay Singh

Regarding AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s bail request in the Delhi Excise policy money laundering case, the Rouse Avenue court postponed making a decision on Tuesday. Since October 4, he has been in the care of the ED. Following the hearing of rebuttal arguments regarding Sanjay Singh’s bail plea, Special Judge M K Nagpal reserved the order. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) was given two working days by the court to submit any written submissions. Additionally, the accused has been asked to submit a rejoinder within the next day.

The court will pronounce the order on December 21 at 4 pm.
Senior advocate Mohit Mathur appeared for Sanjay Singh.
He submitted that Sanjay Singh was not called even once for questioning before October 4, 2023.
He further argued, “My (Singh’s) legal notice sparked problems for them. Then they started noticing me.”
“I am not asking for discharge. I am asking for bail. My personal liberty is sacrosanct in the Constitution,” the Senior advocate submitted.
He also raised contradictions in the statement of accused turn approver Dinesh Arora, Chandan Reddy and other witnesses.
He submitted that Dinesh Arora’s statement is hearsay. Now he has a pseudo-name Alpha. How can one assume that Dinesh Arora is telling the truth?
It is a business deal and can’t see corruption in every business deal. Alpha said he got money from Nitin Kapoor who denied this fact, he added.

Excise PMLA case: AAP leader Sanjay Singh’s judicial custody extended by Delhi court until Dec 11

Sanjay Singh, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, had his judicial custody extended by the Rouse Avenue Court on Monday until December 11, 2023, in connection with a money laundering case involving the excise policy case. In the meantime, the court stated that the bail arguments will take place on December 6, 2023, and directed that Sanjay Singh’s attorney receive a copy of the supplemental chargesheet in advance. The Enforcement Directorate filed an application earlier in the arguments, claiming that one protected witness’s name had been accidentally mentioned and that, as a result, it would not become public knowledge because of their protection.

The court has reserved the order for the interim court and directed the court staff to keep the file in secrecy.
However, the court, while ordering to serve the advance copy to Sanjay Singh’s lawyer, allowed ED to remove or hide such a portion mentioning the protected witness name.
Special Justice MK Nagpal extended the judicial custody of Sanjay Singh until December 11, 2023.

ED Takes Action: Charge Sheet Filed Against AAP’s Sanjay Singh in Delhi Excise Policy Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a supplementary prosecution complaint on Saturday against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh in the ongoing money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy. This development adds a new dimension to Singh’s legal woes.

Singh, who was taken into custody by the ED on October 4 in connection with the alleged irregularities in the excise policy, remains in judicial custody at Tihar Jail.

The Rouse Avenue Court’s Special Judge, MK Nagpal, has summoned a response from the ED by December 6 regarding Singh’s bail application. The court extended Singh’s judicial custody until December 4.

Special Public Prosecutor Naveen Kumar Matta, representing the ED, assured the court that the chargesheet (Supplementary Prosecution Complaint) will be submitted within the stipulated timeframe.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court dismissed Singh’s appeal contesting his arrest, highlighting his purported involvement in the decision to grant licenses to alcohol shops and merchants in 2020, allegedly causing financial losses and violating anti-corruption laws.

The case, centered on the Delhi government’s 2021–22 excise policy, revolves around allegations of favoritism and cartelization. The AAP has vehemently denied these accusations.

ED’s relentless investigation has included multiple searches at the residences and offices of Singh’s associates and beneficiaries of the policy. The agency considers Singh a significant conspirator in the case.

The inquiry stems from findings in the Delhi Chief Secretary’s report, which disclosed prima facie violations of various statutes, including the GNCTD Act 1991, Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR) 1993, Delhi Excise Act 2009, and Delhi Excise Rules 2010, leading to the subsequent CBI case registration.

On Monday, the AAP leader Sanjay Singh’s appeal against the Delhi High Court’s decision to deny his request to be placed under arrest and placed on remand in connection with the alleged liquor irregularities case was received notice from the Supreme Court to the Enforcement Directorate. The case was postponed until the second week of December by a bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti, who asked the ED to respond to Sanjay Singh’s petition. The court also made it clear that the petitioner would be able to file for regular bail if advised to do so, and that it would be evaluated independently of the contested judgment and in compliance with the law.

In relation to the alleged liquor scam case, the Rouse Avenue Court on Friday extended Sanjay Singh, the MP and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party,’sjudicialcustody until November 10 of the following month. In this case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently placed him under arrest. Singh had filed a request with the jail administration asking for guidelines to guarantee proper medical care and to permit him to keep receiving treatment on a regular basis from his private physician. Taking note of the arguments, the court ruled that Singh should be allowed to see his eye doctor since he needs proper care, which may not be available while he is incarcerated. The court stated that it did not see any justification for refusing Singh’s request to receive private medical care.

The court further directed that no supporter of the accused be allowed near him in order to prevent any unnecessary trouble to patients of eye centres.
The court also allowed Sanjay Singh to sign two cheques for the purpose of meeting family expenses and also permitted him to sign two letters addressed to the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in connection with the release of the transfer of funds.
On the last date of the hearing, the same court had warned Singh not to give a political speech here in the courtroom and said, “If such speeches are made the court will direct his production through video conferencing”.

Delhi HC dismisses AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s plea against his arrest

Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh filed a plea on Friday, but the Delhi High Court denied it. The plea was against Singh’s arrest and remand in connection with the alleged liquor “scam.” Sanjay Singh had declared in his plea that he is neither a suspect nor an accused and that the petitioner has not been involved in any way up to this point, even though two supplementary charge sheets and one main charge sheet have been filed over the course of more than a year. The order was issued by Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma’s bench, which also declared that there was no justification for the court to tamper with the arrest or remand order.

The petition is premature at this stage and the investigation is still to take place, stated the Court.
On the last date of the hearing, appearing for ED, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju submitted that Singh had been arrested in the interest of investigation after following the due process of law. “During the investigation, it is revealed that Sanjay Singh is also a part of a conspiracy of the Delhi Liquor Scam and is closely related to Dinesh Arora and Amit Arora. He has been part of collecting kickback and has received proceeds of crime to the tune of 2 crore,” the ED’s counsel submitted.
“The trial court which passed the order has perused the case paper that reasons have been recorded in writing and thus it is in compliance with section 19. Facts stated nowhere show that his arrest is unwarranted or unreasonable. Even his contention regarding remand application mechanically without considering is wrong and misleading. General submissions are made off the cuff. The remand is not mechanical and there is total application of mind,” he said.

Delhi Liquor scam case: Sanjay Singh of the AAP moves Delhi HC challenging his arrest, ED remand

Sanjay Singh, an Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP, moved the Delhi High Court on Friday to appeal his arrest in the Delhi Liquor Scam case, as well as the trial court’s remand.
After Sanjay Singh’s lawyer brought the case before the bench led by the Chief Justice of Delhi, the court consented to hear it today.
On October 10, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court extended the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) remand by three days until October 13. After five days in ED custody in the Delhi Excise policy money laundering case, he was later brought in court.

Earlier, the ED’s counsel said that a bribe was demanded to clear the liquor licenses. The ED’s Special Counsel further stated that a businessman’s statement was recorded throughout the investigation. In Chandigarh, several searches have been done.
During the hearing, the ED stated that it had taped a businessman’s statement but could not reveal the content of the statement. The ED further stated that a bribe was demanded in order to clear the liquor licenses.
The ED also stated that Sarvesh Mishra, a suspected associate of Sanjay Singh, was not cooperating in the inquiry and had been summoned for interrogation a second time.

ED conducts raid at AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s residence

Sanjay Singh, a Rajya Sabha member for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is the subject of an ED raid at his home in relation to an excise policy case. MP Sanjay Singh claimed in a letter to the Finance Secretary T V Somanathan earlier this month that the ED Director and Assistant Director purposefully and without justification connected his name to the alleged liquor scam, tarnishing his reputation and defaming him. Singh stated that statements made by Dinesh Arora led to the addition of his name.

Singh also claimed that the officers’ abuse of their authority damaged his reputation and called for their prosecution. He claimed to have already given the officers legal notice that they must publicly and openly apologize. In the ED charge sheet, the name of the AAP leader appears four times, four of which, according to ED sources, were typed incorrectly. Sanjay Singh’s name was occasionally used in place of Rahul Singh, the then-excise commissioner.

ED is reportedly searching the residence of Sanjay Singh, further details are awaited.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh took to Twitter and posted a video where he made allegations against the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He claimed that he had exposed the alleged dictatorship and misuse of power by the ED in the excise policy case. Sanjay Singh stated that after the ED failed to find anything incriminating against him, they began conducting raids at the homes of his colleagues.

He criticized these raids as acts of dictatorship and accused the ED of acting on the orders of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sanjay Singh expressed his determination to continue his fight against what he perceives as the misuse of the ED’s authority. He mentioned that his colleagues Ajit Tyagi and Sarvesh Mishra had their houses raided.

Sanjay Singh announced his intention to approach the High Court and Supreme Court if necessary, to challenge the actions of the ED. He vowed not to back down and promised to expose what he believes to be the wrongful practices of the ED in front of the entire country. Additionally, he highlighted the plight of Sarvesh’s father, who is reportedly suffering from cancer, as he criticized the ED’s actions.

After releasing from detention, AAP MLA, Sanjay Singh along with hsi fellow party leaders on Monday, stated that the BJP is trying to taint the images of Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal. Furthermore he claimed that he would have PM Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah and billionaire Gautam Adani “arrested within two hours,” if the ED and CBI are with him.

Notably, Singh along with other AAP leaders was detained on Sunday for staging a demonstration outside the CBI officer, in support of Deputy Chief Minister’s arrest in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

Speaking to ANI, after his release, Singh alleged that the BJP was trying to “defame” Delhi CM, claiming tha all attempts to bring a bad name to Kejriwal to make his party fail.

“There will soon be an end to PM Modi’s dictatorship. He arrested the most popular Education minister (Manish Sisodia) of the country. He is trying to defame Arvind Kejriwal but such acts won’t affect his image. It was a cowardly act by the Centre to have Sisodia arrested by the agencies,” the AAP MP said.

“Give me ED and CBI, I will arrest Modi, Amit Shah and Adani within two hours. You can do anything when you have the power to misuse probe agencies,” Singh added.
