Historical Significance of Sanatan Dharma

In his address, Adityanath recalled the history of Sanatan Dharma, noting that despite numerous challenges, it has survived and thrived thanks to the divine tradition of avatars, seers, and sages. He referred to the revival of Sanatan Dharma by Adi Shankaracharya, who through his Vijay Yatra and debates established the four mathas that continue to protect and nurture the tradition.

Honoring Jagadguru Shankaracharya

During the ceremony, Adityanath welcomed Jagadguru Shankaracharya Vidushekhara Bharati Sannidhanam of the Sringeri Sharada Peeth with ceremonial gifts. He spoke about the Gorakshpeeth’s historical connection to Sringeri Peeth and its role in promoting spiritual and cultural unity.

A Vision for Unity: The Maha Kumbh and Beyond

The Chief Minister also discussed the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, describing it as a global message of unity. With millions of devotees attending, Adityanath emphasized that this event exemplifies the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,” resonating with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for national unity.

Yogi Adityanath Calls Sanatan Dharma India’s ‘National Religion’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has described “Sanatan Dharma” as the “national religion” of India, emphasizing its universal appeal and connection to humanity. Speaking at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on Sunday, Adityanath said, “Sanatan Dharma is the national religion of India. It is the religion of humanity. While the process of worship may differ, the core religion remains the same.”

He added, “The Maha Kumbh symbolizes Sanatan Dharma’s essence, representing unity and inclusivity beyond caste or religion.”

Massive Participation in Maha Kumbh 2025

Highlighting the massive turnout, Adityanath said that nearly six crore devotees have taken a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the now-extinct Saraswati rivers meet. According to an ANI report, over 11 crore devotees have participated in the sacred event during its first 14 days.

Akhilesh Yadav Takes Holy Dip at Maha Kumbh

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav also visited Prayagraj and took a holy dip at the Maha Kumbh on Sunday. Speaking to reporters, he said, “People come here with faith. I took 11 holy dips and feel blessed. Events like these are about unity, not divisive politics.”

A significant political controversy has erupted in Jaipur following a purification ceremony conducted by BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya at the Jaipur Municipal Corporation Heritage (JMCH). The ritual, involving Gangajal (holy water from the Ganges) and gomutra (cow urine), was aimed at symbolically cleansing Congress councillors who had defected to the BJP. These councillors supported the appointment of Kusum Yadav as the new mayor, following the ousting of former Congress mayor Munesh Gurjar amid corruption allegations.

Acharya, who is also a temple priest, led the purification ceremony with Vedic chants, asserting that the ritual was essential to rid the corporation of the “corruption” allegedly tied to its previous leadership. The Congress councillors who shifted allegiances were made to symbolically consume Gangajal and gomutra, signifying their conversion to Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism). Acharya boldly claimed that the ceremony had made the JMCH “corruption-free” and pure.

This incident has triggered sharp criticism from opposition leaders. Congress member Pratap Singh Khachariyawas questioned Acharya’s authority to perform such a ceremony, criticizing the BJP for accepting the very same councillors they were purportedly “purifying” from corruption. He pointed out the irony in the BJP’s reliance on these defectors to secure political control while simultaneously subjecting them to this ritual.

Vedas Amplify Love, Service And Sacrifice For Our Country

In India, spirituality and devotion (or Deva Bhakti) have never been separate from nationalism (or Rashtra Bhakti), says the global spiritual master, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

Sanatan Dharma is the only culture that inspires us to love the nation, make sacrifices, and become a revolutionary when needed. This inspiration and need to take pride in and protect our cultural identity led so many freedom fighters to sacrifice their lives fighting against the British that got us our independence.

The Vedas are filled with verses that fill us with a profound sense of Nationalism. Rig Ved 10.191.2 mentions:-
“सं गछवं सं वदवं सं वो मनांिस जानताम्। देवा भागं यथा पूर्वे संजानाना उपासते ।। “
Meaning – “O Supreme Divine! Please give us wisdom that we all walk together in harmony, speak in one sweet language, have one heart, and enjoy the wealth and property produced in our own country by sharing it equally with each other. May every tendency in us be to seek freedom from attachment, and hatred and increase our love for each other.”

In yet another verse found in the Rig Ved’s ‘Indra-Sukta’ (10.47.2), “वायुधं ववसं सुनीथं चतुः समुद्रं धरुणं रयीणाम्। चकृयं शंयं भूिरवारममयं िचं वृषणं रियं दाः ॥”

Here one prays for a wealthy, prosperous, well-armed and infallible child capable of protecting his nation and one who leads his people with justice, mercy, generosity, and good conduct and considers the welfare of all.

Many such verses can be found in our Vedic literature to inspire the protection of one’s country and emphasize its importance. For example, this verse from Rig Veda-
उप सर्प मातरं भूिमम् । (Rig Ved 10.18.19) means- “I bow down praying- May I serve the motherland.”

In yet another verse,
“नमो मात्रे पृिथव्यै नमो मात्रे पृिथव्या।” (Yajur Ved 9.23), we pay obeisance to mother earth or the homeland, while another verse form Yajur Veda inspires us to lead the nation with awareness. (वयः राट्र जागृयाम पुरोहिताः ॥ (Yajur Ved 9.23))

The real meaning of freedom
“For generations, our people aspired for freedom,” shares Gurudev, “But can you call a person free and independent when they are not mentally and emotionally free? Freedom should indicate fearlessness and awareness. Freedom means to be happy and confident in any situation. Independence cannot be achieved unless you start moving from within.”
To serve the country happily and dedicatedly, our youth must be free of stress, negative emotions and limiting beliefs. This is where Indian spirituality plays a truly empowering role. There are special yogic techniques like pranayamas or powerful breathing techniques like Sudarshan Kriya (taught by Gurudev), spiritual texts like Upanishads and Dhyana or meditation- all these tools rooted in ancient knowledge systems can help our youth be truly free from their stresses, worries and emotional upheavals.
It is with this inner strength alone that one can be established in oneself and serve his/her country, just as it is mentioned in this verse from Atharva Ved,
मे मातर्िन धेिह मा भद्रया सुप्रतिष्ठितम्। (Atharva Ved 12.1.63)
Meaning- O Motherland, Keep me well-established.
हृदयं सांमनस्यमिवद्वेषं कृणोिम वः। अन्यो अन्यमिभ हर्यंत वत्सं जातिमवाध्या ।। (Atharva Ved 3.30.1)
Meaning – Open your hearts to each other and remain single-mindedly engaged in action. Just as a cow turns into a lioness and rushes to its newly-born calf when disturbed, you all should be prepared to protect kind-hearted people in times of trouble.

Vedas are an ocean of knowledge, an invaluable treasure of world literature and the basic foundation of Indian nationalism. They contain within it the noble feeling of nationalism in full measure and have formed the basis of our collective pride of belonging to this nation.

Over the past few months, the Ambanis have captured global attention with the pre-wedding and wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, now Radhika Ambani. Hailed as the wedding of the century, the festivities were grand, opulent, and extravagant, featuring stars like Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian and showcasing the most luxurious couture. 1. The Vishwambhari Stuti

During the pre-wedding festivities, Anant’s mother, Nita Ambani, performed a beautiful dance on the Vishwambhari Stuti, a devotional hymn dedicated to Goddess Amba, the Mother of the Universe. Dressed elegantly, Nita’s movements and gestures reflected grace, pure devotion, and love.

As devout followers of Shri Nath ji, an avatar of Shri Krishna, the Ambanis incorporated his tilak symbol in every wedding card and invite. Floral decorations and various rituals also featured his tilak. Radhika Merchant even wore a dress with Shri Nath ji’s motif.

4. Sanskrit Shlokas on Dresses

During the Shiv Shakti puja, Isha Ambani Piramal wore a golden lehenga adorned with Sanskrit shlokas from the Bhagavad Gita, including “Karmanye Vadhikaraste, Ma phaleshu kada chana.” Nita Ambani also wore a red lehenga with the Gayatri mantra during a mass wedding organized by the family.

5. Pashu-Seva

Service to animals, or pashu-seva, is another significant aspect of Sanatan Dharma. Anant Ambani, a passionate animal lover, runs ‘Vantara,’ an initiative for the betterment and rehabilitation of animals. Through various forms of pashu-seva, the Ambanis emphasize compassion and care for all living beings.

6. The First Invitation to Banke Bihari

For Anant and Radhika’s wedding, the first invitation was reportedly sent to the Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan. Representatives from the Ambani family placed the invitation at the feet of Shri Krishna, and another invite was sent to Kedarnath.

7. Nita Ambani’s Trip to Kashi

A few days before the wedding, Nita Ambani visited Kashi (Varanasi) to seek blessings from Baba Vishwanath at the Kashi Vishwanath temple, one of the most sacred temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. She shared with the media that her visit was to ask for blessings for Anant and Radhika’s union.

‘Modi ka Parivaar’: BJP leaders launch campaign by changing social media profile names showing support to PM Modi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda, and various other party leaders have expressed solidarity with Prime Minister Narendra Modi by incorporating ‘Modi ka Parivar’ into their social media profile names. This gesture is a response to RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav’s comments regarding PM Modi’s religious identity.

A day after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Yadav launched a personal attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several prominent BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda, incorporated “Modi ka parivar” (Modi’s family) into their social media profiles.

Responding to the Prime Minister’s accusation of dynasty politics within Opposition parties, including RJD, Lalu Yadav, during a rally of the INDIA Opposition bloc in Patna, remarked, “What can we do if Narendra Modi does not have a family of his own?” He also criticized Modi’s mention of the Ram temple and raised questions about his adherence to Hindu traditions.

As a display of unity, key BJP figures like Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Nitin Gadkari, Anurag Thakur, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan added “Modi ka parivar” to their social media handles. This initiative is reminiscent of the “Main bhi chowkidar” campaign before the 2019 general election, where BJP leaders appended “Main bhi chowkidar (I am a watchman too)” to their profiles in response to Rahul Gandhi’s “Chowkidaar chor hai” remark.

Lalu Yadav’s remarks elicited a strong reaction from BJP leaders in Bihar. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha criticized the comments as offensive and disrespectful, highlighting that such language reflects a mindset against Sanatan Dharma (eternal religion) and seeks to undermine longstanding traditions. Amid UP Rajya Sabha elections, SP MLA Manoj Kumar Pandey resigns as chief whip

In the midst of the ongoing voting for the 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, Samajwadi Party MLA and leader Manoj Kumar Pandey stepped down from the role of party chief whip. This move comes after his non-participation in the meeting called by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav regarding the Rajya Sabha elections, held a day earlier.

Pandey expressed his decision, stating, “I have requested the party chief to accept my resignation from the post of Chief Whip.” This development is closely monitored as voting dynamics for the Rajya Sabha seats unfold.

Following a meeting with Pandey, Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh revealed that Pandey, a supporter of Sanatan Dharma, voiced his discontent and advocated for the participation of everyone in the darshan of Ram ji. Singh noted, “Many public representatives are joining the BJP due to being influenced by PM Modi’s policies and the development happening in the country.”

Adding to the uncertainty surrounding party allegiance, another Samajwadi Party MLA, Rakesh Pratap Singh, hinted at voting against the party, emphasizing, “I’m not angry with anyone; I will vote according to the voice of the inner soul.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, after casting his vote for the Rajya Sabha elections in Lucknow, displayed a victory sign. Simultaneously, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav participated in the election by casting his vote.

Predicting cross-voting, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar stated, “The 8 candidates from the BJP are going to win. Raja Bhaiya and all our allies are in support of BJP.” Rajbhar claimed that Samajwadi Party leaders are openly agreeing to vote for BJP, anticipating a scenario of cross-voting.

Amidst the dynamic electoral landscape, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed optimism about winning three seats in the Rajya Sabha election. However, he acknowledged the potential for BJP to employ various tactics and suggested that some leaders within his party might pursue personal gains by aligning with the BJP.

In Uttar Pradesh, where 10 Rajya Sabha seats are at stake, the BJP has fielded eight candidates, and the Samajwadi Party has nominated three candidates. Hindu Sena moves SC seeking action for hate speeches against Sanatan Dharma

The Hindu Sena has taken legal action by approaching the Supreme Court regarding alleged hate speeches delivered at various events across India, targeting the Hindu community and Sanatan Dharma. Vishnu Gupta, the National President of Hindu Sena, filed a plea seeking the court’s intervention in enforcing its directions on hate speeches, as laid out in the Tehseen Poonawalla case.

Gupta’s plea highlights hate speeches made at events throughout India, which he claims advocate for war against a significant section of Indian citizens and openly call for the genocide of Hindus for ethnic cleansing. He specifically mentioned speeches by Udhayanidhi Stalin, Asaduddin Owaisi, Maharashtra leader Awhad, Bihar MLA Fateh Bahadur Singh, and Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya.

According to Gupta, these speeches not only incite hate but also pose a serious threat to the unity and integrity of India, endangering the lives of millions of Hindu citizens. He asserts that the respondents have ignored the Supreme Court’s directives in the Tehseen Poonawalla case, and he seeks urgent and effective compliance with these directives.

Gupta’s plea requests that the Supreme Court ensure compliance with the punitive measures outlined in the Tehseen Poonawalla case for those guilty of hate speech.

Prisoner’s dilemma between DMK & I.N.D.I.A bloc members

DMK’s egregious outbursts that belittle Sanatan Dharma, Hindi, people of Hindi-speaking states, Hindu gods and beliefs, changing the rules of worship procedure in the temples of TN with its Hindu Religious Endowment Department, delimitation exercise expected in 2026, and similar issues that harbour fissiparous tendencies (such as calling the central government ONRIYA ARASU in Tamil, indirectly indicating that India is not a Union of India but the United States of India) continue unabatedly.

Although these outlandish outbursts have been there since the 1930s with the DravidarKazhakam of E. V. Ramasamy Naicker, followed by Annadurai and Karunanidhi of the DMK, they virtually disappeared during the participation of the DMK in the central government dispensation between 1999 and 2013 (1999–2004 with the BJP and 2004–2013 with Congress).

It resurfaced more aggressively in 2021 once DMK came to power in TN, with the disappointment that with the BJP becoming a party in pole position, the chances of becoming part of the central dispensation have been dim. Apart from the outbursts of Udayanidhi, son and minister in the TN government, Sanatana Dharma is like dengue, and it must be eradicated with no traces or “2G” A Raja calling Hinduism is like HIV and leprosy, DMK MP Senthil Kumar’s speech in Lok Sabha that disparaged MP, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan voters as the people who belonged to the cow-mutra states to the latest outburst of “BSNL resources swindling” Dayanidhi, who stated that UP and Bihar people have been cleaning the toilets in TN.

Calling North Indians “beda-biters” is another disparaging remark from the recent past. The above instances are only the tip of the iceberg.
DMK is not naïve enough to understand that its outbursts not only dents the chances of Congress in the states of MP, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, HP, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Karnataka but also dents the chances of Samajwadi Party in UP, JDU and RJD in Bihar, TMC in West Bengal, AAP in Delhi and Punjab, and Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra.

Congress is an insignificant partner in TN in the DMK alliance, and even if the INDI alliance breaks the alliance with DMK in TN, except for a couple of percentage points of vote share owned by Congress, DMK’s alliance’s core support base along with other small alliance partners may remain intact.

The core support base of the DMK’s alliance is made up of Abrahamic voters. Although Muslims and Christians constitute 5.9% and 6.1% of the total population in TN as per the 2011 census, the actual population of Christians may be about 14% as sizable Scheduled Caste members practice Christianity but have been mentioning their religion as Hinduism in records to enjoy reservation benefits and hence accounted as Hindus in the census.

Although SC Christians form the single largest caste block in Christianity, the intermediate castes (who enjoy backward class status) have never allowed them in various Christian forums and clergy positions. Despite this, SC Christians support DMK along with intermediate-caste Christians.

With this 20% vote share as the basis, DMK’s core supporters of 10% and the vote share of alliance partners of about 3% from CPI, CPM, VCK, and other small parties, about 50% of the TN government employees and their families supporting DMK, which forms about 4% of the vote share in TN (Earlier, about 80%–90% of the TN government employees supported DMK; with the TN government failing to implement the poll promise of introducing the old pension scheme, DMK lost a significant vote base of the TN government employees), the alliance would get about 35% of the votes, even without Congress.

The vote-cutters take away about 15% of the total votes in TN. With no alliance between AIADMK and BJP, DMK is extremely confident that it could get most of the seats in the first-past-the-post system by securing 35% of the total votes in TN. Either AIADMK or BJP should get more than 35% of the vote to push DMK to the second position. Even though 65% of the total voters may not vote for the DMK alliance, there may be no consolidation of votes against the DMK in the absence of a bipolar contest.

All these outbursts by DMK have been aimed at consolidating their established vote bank and not acquiring additional votes. The moot question is: if the INDI alliance fare poorly in the 2024 general elections, it will not have enough numbers to form a government.
Does the DMK not know that in such a scenario, the DMK has no chance of being a part of the ruling dispensation at the center? Even before the December 2023 elections for five state assembly elections, DMK knew that there were fewer prospects for the INDI alliance to get a majority in the 2024 general elections. It got confirmed with the results of the MP, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh state elections.

What DMK has been adopting is a prisoner’s dilemma, a game theory in economics. When the two members of a criminal gang are arrested, police know that they don’t have evidence to convict the pair of their criminal activities. However, they knew that the pair had committed the crime and wanted to sentence them.

Both the prisoners are in different cells and have no communication with each other, and hence they are not aware of the Faustian bargain the police planned. As per the Faustian bargain, if the first prisoner gives testimony against the second one and the second one does not give testimony against the first prisoner, the first prisoner will get a sentence, and vice versa.
If both do not give testimony against each other, both will be released. If both give testimony against each other, both will be sentenced.

Unlike the Faustian bargain of the two prisoners, there is no disconnect in communication between DMK and other INDI parties. DMK has been resorting to Faustian bargaining by resorting to outbursts (equivalent to giving testimony against other alliance parties of the INDI alliance) that will affect the prospects of others in the alliance, including Congress.
This has been done in the hope that Congress will not resort to outbursts against DMK, as Congress believes till now that the benefit in terms of seats that it can win from TN in alliance with DMK outweighs the seats it would gain in the direct contest against the BJP in other states, even when it kicks out DMK from the alliance.

However, this is not a two-prisoner’s dilemma; rather, it is a multi-prisoner’s dilemma. Congress may not resort to testimony against DMK, but other parties, which are at the receiving end, may give testimony against DMK and save their face. The recent retort of Tejaswi Yadav of RJD is an example. It is to be seen whether the INDI alliance may remain as the alliance of 26 parties or become an alliance between Congress and DMK, with others parting ways citing one or another excuse in the months leading to the 2024 general elections.

Kavitha says Congress anti-Hindu, questions silence on DMK’s comment on Sanatana Dharma

In a recent statement, BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has accused the Congress party of harboring an “anti-Hindu tendency in its DNA.” The allegations stem from the party’s perceived silence on derogatory remarks about Sanatana Dharma made by leaders of its ally, the DMK, within the India alliance. Kavitha questions why Rahul Gandhi, a prominent figure in the Congress, has not taken a stance on these inflammatory comments and demands clarity on the party’s position regarding the hijab controversy in Karnataka.

The accusations against Congress extend beyond religious sentiments to include allegations of fraud, conspiracy, and deception. Kavitha criticizes the party for making promises during elections, only to allegedly ignore them once in power. Stalin accused pro-BJP forces of creating a “false narrative” against Udhayanidhi, who serves as the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs in the Tamil Nadu government. In a speech, Udhayanidhi Maran allegedly made statements that were provocative, inflammatory, derogatory, and inciting against Sanatan Dharam, according to the complainant Vineet Jindal, a practicing attorney.

Being a Hindu and Sanatan dharma follower, my religious sentiments are hurt by statements made by Udhayanidhi Stalin called for eradicating Sanatan dharma and further comparing Sanatan with Mosquitoes, dengue, corona, and malaria, stated Complainant Lawyer Vineet Jindal.

Udhayanidhi Maran’s words, according to the complainant, demonstrate his hatred for Sanatan Dharma. He is an MLA and Minister in the Karnataka Government, and he has taken an oath to serve in accordance with the country’s constitution and to respect all regions. The BJP’s Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai ripped into DMK leader and minister Udhayanidhi Stalin over his comment equating Sanatan Dharma with “mosquitoes, dengue, malaria, and corona,” accusing him of peddling a “bought-out idea from Christian missionaries.” The Tamil Nadu government’s minister for sports and youth affairs spoke out against Sanatan Dharma on Saturday, declaring that “few things cannot be opposed, they should only be abolished.” We must eradicate Dengue, mosquitoes, malaria, and Corona because we cannot fight them. In a similar manner, we must destroy Sanatana (Satanic Dharma). Sanatana should be eliminated rather than merely opposed.

In a scathing retort to the DMK leader over his remarks, Annamalai took to his official handle on X to post, “The only resolve that the Gopalapuram Family has is to accumulate wealth beyond the State GDP. Echoing his sentiments, the BJP’s IT cell head, Amit Malviya, said, the DMK minister was calling for “genocide of 80 per cent of the population of Bharat”.
