Riyan Parag Hits 6 Sixes in a Row, Matches Yuvraj & Pollard

May 4, 2025, 8:20 pm

Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag hammered six sixes against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, May 4, at the Eden Gardens. Parag’s stellar batting display kept Rajasthan in the match while pursuing a hugely unlikely target of 207 runs.

Having Rajasthan 72/5 in the 8th over, Parag set himself the target to single-handedly get the Royals back in the game and took on Moeen Ali to hit him back-to-back sixes off six consecutive balls in the 13th over of the match.

Riyan Parag Aggression Against Spin

Parag smashed Varun Chakravarthy for a six on the very first ball that he faced from the spinner in the subsequent over, and his strike rate in the match went up to six out of six.

Parag joined the likes of Chris Gayle, Rahul Tewatia, and Rinku Singh, among others, who have achieved the feat of hitting 5 sixes in an over of a match in the IPL.

RR captain was dismissed in the 4th ball of the 17th over, while batting at 95. This was his record-highest score in the IPL, a tournament in which he has played since 2019.

Ball by Ball – Riyan Parag hits 6 Sixes Against KKR

12.2: Moeen Ali to Riyan Parag, SIX! FIFTY FOR PARAG! First of the season and he is keeping RR in this match! Flatter, full and on the pads. Riyan Parag collects it and whips it over the deep square leg fence for a flat six. Doesn’t display any emotions and simply calmly raises his bat in the air as he is aware that the job is far from done. However, a sensational fifty by the RR skipper.

12.3: Moeen Ali to Riyan Parag, SIX MORE! Parag switching gears now! Flighted, full and on off, Riyan Parag edges forward for it a bit and hits it down the ground over long on for another biggie.

12.4: Moeen Ali to Riyan Parag, SIX! Three in succession! Moeen Ali comes around the wicket and dispatches this full and on leg. Piece of cake for Parag as he smashes it over the deep square leg fence once again for six more.

12.5: Moeen Ali to Riyan Parag, SIX! FOUR IN A ROW NOW! Loopy delivery, full and on middle, Parag clears his front leg away and sends it high and handsomely over the long on fence for a biggie. This is precisely the over RR desired!

12.6: Moeen Ali to Riyan Parag, SIX! Five sixes in the over! 32 runs off the over! Quicker, full and outside off, Parag raises his arms to reach out and tonks it over the long off fence for a six. This might be the match-winning over!

13.2: Varun Chakaravarthy to Riyan Parag, SIX! Parag is enjoying himself now! Floated, full and around middle, Parag goes down and hits the reverse sweep over the deep point fence for a biggie. KKR under pressure now!

6 Consecutive Sixes in T20Is

Nobody has ever made 6 sixes in an over in the Indian Premier League’s history. In T20Is, however, three batsmen have struck 6 sixes off consecutive deliveries. Dipendra Singh Airee, Kieron Pollard and Yuvraj Singh have done the magic.

While Nepal’s Airee has accomplished it in two different instances, against Qatar and Mongolia, Pollard did so in 2021, towards the end of his career, while playing against Sri Lanka, and Yuvraj Singh had blown away Stuart Broad during the T20 World Cup 2007.

Riyan Parag Argues With Umpire Over Controversial DRS Call

April 10, 2025, 8:54 am

Riyan Parag showed his unhappiness over the third umpire’s ruling in the IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans on Wednesday. The Rajasthan Royals were going great guns until he was caught behind but he did not appear to be happy with the call and even discussed it with the umpire before departing the field.

Kulwant Khejroliya breaks crucial stand between Sanju and Riyan Parag

It was the first over after powerplay and Gujarat Titans introduced Kulwant Khejroliya into the attack to disrupt the risky stand between Sanju Samson and Parag. The left-arm pacer did the trick on the fourth ball when the umpire sent Parag caught behind. But Parag straightaway opted for the DRS as he was sure about not getting the edge and showed the ball striking the ground, giving a big noise. There was a spike appearing in the replay as the ball went past the bat, and the third umpire did not alter the decision shell-shocked Parag and he even debated with the on-field umpire.

Mohammed Siraj consoles Riyan Parag after dismissal

Gujarat Titans’s veteran pacer Mohammed Siraj had a chat with Parag and patted his back on returning to the pavilion.

Riyan Parag did have some little impact with his stay in the middle and dazzled the crowd with three spectacular sixes; however, the moment turned around for the hosts after his fall.

Rajasthan Royals wobble in tall chase

In pursuit of a 218-run target, RR lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (6) and Nitish Rana (1) within the powerplay, but Parag and Samson stabilized the innings with a 48-run partnership. Post-game, however, they again kept losing wickets at frequent intervals. Simultaneously, the loss of Samson to 41 virtually clinched it for the Titans. The wicket-keeper batsman smashed four fours and two sixes before being bowled out by Prasidh Krishna.

Shimron Hetmyer registered a late fightback with an end-knock of 52, but that did not suffice, as RR were dismissed for 159. Krishna was The Titans’ pick of the bowlers with three wickets to his name.

Sai Sudharsan stars in GT innings

Earlier, Sai Sudharsan played a flamboyant 82 to help Gujarat Titans reach 217 for 6, which proved to be too rich for the Royals.

Sudharsan’s 53-ball knock was filled with eight fours and three sixes, whereas Shahrukh Khan and Jos Buttler scored 36 each after GT were asked to bat. For RR, Maheesh Theekshana and Tushar Deshpande picked two wickets each, whereas Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma picked one each.

IPL 2025: Riyan Parag Fined After Leading RR to First Win

March 31, 2025, 11:16 am

Acting skipper Riyan Parag breathed a sigh of relief on Sunday as Rajasthan Royals secured their first IPL 2025 win in their third attempt. After defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opener and the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, they edged past Chennai Super Kings in a thrilling home encounter in Guwahati. However, the victory came with a setback as Riyan Parag was fined for an IPL rule violation.

IPL 2025: Riyan Parag Fined for Slow Over-Rate Against CSK

The BCCI fined Riyan Parag on Monday due to Rajasthan Royals’ slow over-rate during the match against Chennai. As it was the team’s first offence in the season, Riyan Parag was fined INR 12 lakhs under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which governs minimum over-rate offences.

Riyan Parag Joins Hardik Pandya in Over-Rate Penalty List in IPL 2025

Riyan Parag became the second captain in IPL 2025 to be penalized for a slow over-rate. Mumbai Indians’ Hardik Pandya faced a similar fine after their match against Gujarat Titans, where MI lost by 36 runs.

Hardik had previously served a one-match ban in IPL 2024 after MI breached the IPL Code of Conduct twice. However, ahead of IPL 2025, the BCCI announced that captains would no longer face suspensions for slow over-rates. The BCCI announced that the teams will instead receiving demerit points based on the severity of the offence.

Rajasthan Royals Edge Past CSK in a Thrilling Contest

Sri Lankan wrist-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga exposed Chennai’s struggle against spin, claiming 4/35. Sandeep Sharma held his nerve in the final over, defending 20 runs and dismissing MS Dhoni to seal RR’s victory.

Earlier, Nitish Rana played a crucial knock, scoring a valuable half-century to help Rajasthan Royals set a competitive total. The bowlers then stepped up to defend the score successfully.

Rajasthan Royals will next face Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh as they look to build momentum in IPL 2025.

IPL 2025: Security Breach as Fan Invades Pitch to Meet Riyan Parag – What Happens Next?

March 27, 2025, 10:43 am

The passion for cricket in India was on full display once again during the Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) IPL 2025 clash at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. A fan breached security and invaded the pitch in the 12th over of KKR’s innings to touch feet of Riyan Parag before embracing him.

Local lad Parag of Assam was captainting RR in Sanju Samson’s absence at their home ground in the IPL. The security lapse left everyone shocked, be it players or spectators.

Shocking Pitch Invasion Halts Play

The incident happened right when Riyan Parag was set to bowl to Quinton de Kock. The supporter was able to run onto the field before security officials moved in and took him away. The sudden interruption delayed the match momentarily, raising questions about player safety and stadium security.

This is the second pitch invasion event in IPL 2025. Previously in the season opener of Eden Gardens, a fan had also crossed security to touch the feet of Virat Kohli during the match between KKR and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Potential Penalty for the Fan

The pitch intruder during the KKR vs RCB match was arrested and subsequently released on conditional bail by the Bankshall Court in Kolkata. According to reports, he had to deposit a bail bond of Rs 1,000 and was prohibited from entering Eden Gardens for the duration of the tournament. Police were also ordered not to allow him to buy match tickets.

With this precedent, the Guwahati pitch intruder may also be subject to similar legal action. The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) and local authorities are likely to take stringent measures to avoid such incidents in the future, highlighting the necessity for increased security protocols.

Match Recap: KKR Overpowers RR

For the game, KKR won convincingly by 8 wickets against RR. Winning the toss, KKR decided to field first and held the Rajasthan Royals to 151/9 in 20 overs. The bowling attack, which was headed by Varun Chakravarthy, Moeen Ali, Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, and Spencer Johnson, wreaked havoc on the RR batting order.

Pursuing 152, KKR swept aside the run chase with Quinton de Kock’s untaken 97, ending the game with a six. KKR’s efficient showing secured their comprehensively dominant win over RR and further consolidated their stand in IPL 2025.

“Oh s**t!”: Riyan Parag Reacts to His Viral YouTube Search History Controversy | Watch

February 11, 2025, 1:25 pm

Indian cricketer Riyan Parag recently spoke out about the controversy surrounding his YouTube search history, which went viral after the IPL 2024.

In an interview with City1016 Radio station, Parag recounted the moment he discovered that his search history had been unintentionally exposed during a live stream, triggering a social media uproar.

“I finished the IPL, we were in Chennai, finished the match, got on a Discord call with my streaming team, and it got publicised now, but it happened before the IPL. One of the people in my Discord team tried to set me up before the IPL, but that got taken down very quickly. But then after the IPL, the hype was there, and I had a good season. I came and opened my stream, I didn’t have Spotify or Apple Music. Everything was deleted,” Parag explained.

“So I went on YouTube to put on music, and I searched for music. But I didn’t know what was happening, but once I did the stream ended, I was like Oh s**t! This happened. It just got blown out of proportion. I didn’t think it was good enough a reason for me to go out publicly and clarify everything and no one would understand,” he added.

Riyan Parag faced heavy criticism and online ridicule after fans noticed explicit searches related to Bollywood actresses Ananya Panday and Sara Ali Khan. However, despite the backlash, he chose to take the incident in stride and remained focused on his cricketing career.

Meanwhile, Parag has been making history on the field. Born to former first-class cricketer Parag Das and national record-holding swimmer Mithoo Barooah, he became the first cricketer from Assam—and the entire northeast—to earn an India cap in July 2024. The emotional moment took place at the Harare Sports Club, where his father presented him with the prestigious cap as his mother watched proudly.

Though his debut against Zimbabwe did not go as planned, managing only two runs before being dismissed, Parag remains determined to leave a lasting impact. Since then, the 23-year-old has featured in eight more T20I matches and made one ODI appearance for Team India.

Reflecting on his journey, he shared, “Coming from Assam, I had this dream of playing for India. Really happy. Playing my first match in Zimbabwe will be special.”

Suryakumar Yadav Wanted This Player for Sri Lanka Series Instead of Riyan Parag; BCCI Denied Due to This Reason

July 25, 2024, 4:24 pm

India’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, starting July 27, sees a notable change in leadership with Suryakumar Yadav appointed as the new captain following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the shortest format. The 15-member squad also features Shubman Gill as the vice-captain, and includes players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Riyan Parag, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Mohd. Siraj.

The squad selection has been influenced by injuries and recent performances. Tilak Varma, who was initially considered for the series, has been sidelined due to an injury, leading to Riyan Parag’s inclusion. Parag, who made his T20I debut during the Zimbabwe series, has impressed selectors with his all-round capabilities and recent improvement in game awareness. According to The Times of India, a BCCI source mentioned, “Parag is highly talented and has improved his attitude towards the game by several notches. He’s now looking to stay at the wicket. To add to his value, he can bowl decently and is a terrific fielder to boot. The selectors want to nurture him for the future.”

Despite Tilak Varma’s absence, his promising T20I record—336 runs from 15 innings, including two fifties, at an average of 33.60 and a strike rate of 139.42—suggests he remains a key prospect for the Indian team. Additionally, Mumbai Indians’ IPL star Nuwan Thushara has been ruled out of the T20Is due to injury, further affecting team dynamics. The series under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership marks a new phase for the Indian team as they look to build on recent performances and integrate emerging talent into their setup.

Why T20I Captain Suryakumar Yadav Missed The ODI Squad: Riyan Parag’s Inclusion Explained

July 19, 2024, 5:17 pm

Suryakumar Yadav’s exclusion from India’s ODI squad for the Sri Lanka tour highlights his recent struggles in the format, while Riyan Parag’s consistent domestic performances secure him spots in both T20I and ODI squads, marking significant selection surprises.

Suryakumar Yadav’s ODI Exclusion

Suryakumar Yadav, the T20I captain, did not make the cut for the ODI squad, despite his prominent role in the shorter format. His recent performances in ODIs have been underwhelming, with a notable struggle against pace bowling. Having averaged just 25.76 in 37 ODIs, his form during the recent 50-over World Cup highlighted these issues. With only six ODIs left before the Champions Trophy, the selectors decided to consider alternative players.

Riyan Parag’s Inclusion

In contrast, Riyan Parag has been selected for both the T20I and ODI squads. Known for his consistent performance in domestic cricket, particularly in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Parag’s versatile lower-order batting has earned him a spot in the teams. His adaptability and recent form have made him a valuable asset.

Team Dynamics and Future Plans

The upcoming tour to Sri Lanka, starting July 27, will include three T20Is and three ODIs. The BCCI selection committee has made some surprising choices for the squad, reflecting a strategic shift. Shubman Gill has been named vice-captain for both formats, positioning him as a future leadership candidate. Ravindra Jadeja’s future in ODIs is uncertain as he has already retired from T20Is, while Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are being considered for the all-rounder role.

Overall Strategy

The changes highlight a focus on building a team with fresh dynamics and preparing for future tournaments. With key players like Hardik Pandya also missing from the ODI squad, the selectors are concentrating on developing new talents and adjusting team composition for upcoming challenges.

Watch: Riyan Parag’s Father Lays India Cap on Son’s Head in Historic Moment for Assam in 1st T20I Against ZIM

July 6, 2024, 6:19 pm

Emotions have been running high in Indian cricket since they won the T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa in the final last week. Their new voyage in this style with a youthful Zimbabwean team started on a similar note. However, the grounds behind the emotions were vastly different this time. Riyan Parag was in the center of that.

Parag is one of three cricketers who made their debuts for India on Saturday, with Abhishek Sharma and Dhruv Jurel. It was a watershed event for Parag, who became the first male cricketer from Assam to represent India at the highest level. The 22-year-old’s father, Parag Das, gave him the India cap, making the event even more meaningful.

It was a nice gesture by the Indian team management to offer Parag Das the honor of handing the India cap to his son. Parag Das was a professional cricketer who represented Assam in 43 first-class matches and 32 List A games.

Riyan Parag Misplaced Passport And Phones, Before Travelling For Zimbabwe

July 3, 2024, 4:48 pm

Assam all-rounder Riyan Parag misplaced his passport and two phones just before joining the Indian cricket squad for their tour of Zimbabwe. The young cricketer, who earned his maiden call-up to the national team, managed to recover all his belongings just in time to catch the Harare-bound flight with his teammates. “I was so excited that I forgot my passport and my phones. But I have them now,” Parag said in a video shared by the BCCI.

The Indian team, led by Shubman Gill, gathered in Mumbai on Monday night before departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Gill, who was part of the T20 World Cup squad as a travelling reserve, joined the team from New York after a brief break. The squad, under the guidance of NCA head VVS Laxman, arrived in Harare late Tuesday after a long 20-hour flight and was warmly welcomed by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC). “We welcome T20 World Cup champions India,” ZC posted on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

Riyan Parag, who had an impressive IPL 2024 season with the Rajasthan Royals, scoring 573 runs at an average of 52 and a strike rate of 149.22, expressed his joy and excitement about making his India debut. “Playing for India has always been a dream for me, coming from Assam. The feel of donning the India jersey and traveling with the team is unparalleled. Zimbabwe will always have a special place in my heart when I play my first match,” Parag shared.

Joining Parag on their maiden call-ups are Abhishek Sharma and Tushar Deshpande. Deshpande described the experience as surreal and a dream come true. “Being part of the national setup is slowly sinking in. It’s a very special feeling,” he said. Sharma echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing his lifelong dream of playing for India. “I didn’t expect my debut to come in Zimbabwe, but it’s a huge honor. The support from my family and teammates has been overwhelming,” Sharma noted.

India’s tour of Zimbabwe will kick off with their first match against Sikandar Raza-led Zimbabwe on July 6 at Harare Cricket Ground, with all five games scheduled at the same venue, concluding on July 14.

With an unexpected turn, T20 World Cup travelling reserves Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shivam Dube were delayed in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. The BCCI announced Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana as their replacements for the first two matches. The stranded players are expected to return to India on Thursday morning and will be honored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, travelling reserves Khaleel Ahmed and Rinku Singh remain in Barbados, with no replacements named for the Zimbabwe series. As the young Indian side embarks on this tour, the excitement and anticipation are palpable, especially for the debutants who are ready to make their mark on the international stage.

IPL Stars Set For India Debut: Young Talent Poised For T20I series against Zimbabwe

June 19, 2024, 2:05 pm

In a fresh turn of events, seven budding IPL talents are poised to make their debut for India in the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe. This series, scheduled to kick off on July 5 at Harare Sports Club, marks Gautam Gambhir’s first stint as head coach of the Indian T20I team.

Gambhir is expected to lead a new team after the T20 World Cup. He’s looking at the best players from IPL 2024, like Riyan Parag, who scored the most runs among new players, and Harshit Rana, who took the most wickets.

“Players like Riyan Parag and Harshit Rana have shown tremendous promise. They’ve been training hard at the National Cricket Academy and are strong contenders for the Zimbabwe series,” shared a BCCI source anonymously.

Meanwhile, people are wondering about what will happen with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in T20Is after the World Cup. Reports say they might start playing more ODIs and Tests instead. This could show a change in India’s cricket plan.

While stars like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya may sit out due to their packed schedules, a blend of fresh faces and familiar names like Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill are expected to represent India in Zimbabwe. The series promises to be a stage for new talents to shine under Gambhir’s guidance, marking a crucial phase for Indian cricket’s future.

Shane Bond hails “quality player” Riyan Parag Of Rajasthan Royals

May 16, 2024, 2:08 pm

Rajasthan Royals bowling coach Shane Bond praised youngster Riyan Parag for his breakout season on the bat in ongoing IPL season.

With Parag displaying his full potential with his technically proficient stroke play, an investment from the past is finally beginning to pay off.

Parag’s promotion to number four spot in the batting order has turned his fortune. He turned up for the royals against Punjab Kings during their match in Guwahati. The 22 year old struck 48 runs over 39 deliveries which included six boundaries.

“Riyan has had an amazing season. That promotion to No.4 has really suited Riyan. He has had a number of years batting in a position that was pretty tough down the order. People forget how young he is. It just takes time when you are young. Obviously saw how well he played in domestic cricket. Particularly in the T20s and he has just rolled on. He is a quality player. There is no doubt about that. I am really excited and proud of him the way he has played so far. I think the team is super excited for him, he has borne the brunt of criticism over the last few years in terms of performances,” Bond said in the post-match press conference.

Overall this season, Riyan is the highest run-scorer for the Royals this season with a tally of 531 in 13 matches, scoring at an average of 59.00. He is also the fourth-highest run-getter in the IPL 2024.

Just like Rajasthan, Punjab batters also struggled to adjust to the slow surface of the Barsapara. The hosts adopted the approach of attacking the stumps which was used by Punjab bowlers earlier in the innings. Their efforts reduced the Kings to 48/4.

Sam Curran (63*) and Jitesh Sharma’s (22) 63-run stand took the game away from the Royals and sealed a five-wicket win for the Kings.

“It was a slow wicket. Kings bowled really well on it. Sort of gave us an indication of the way to bowl. They bowled really straight. The only time that we sort of hurt them is when they get offered up some width. The spinner bowled well and they controlled the innings really and that was a goal when we went out to bowl. Bowl straight wicket-to-wicket. Try to make things as hard as we possibly could. At one point we were really in the game. Probably the passage between the two timeouts we just took the foot off the gas a little bit. Obviously, Sam (Curran) played really well he controlled the innings beautifully all the way till the end,” Bond stated.

Rajasthan have qualified for the playoffs and will end their group stage campaign against guaranteed table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday.
