Pant returned to cricket after a near-fatal accident and scored twin centuries in a historic Test.
</excerpt>

Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the world-famous Mumbai orthopaedic surgeon who conducted surgery on Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant after his life-threatening car crash in December 2022, has spoken candidly about Pant’s recuperation and recent on-field flashy celebrations.

Pant suffered serious injuries when his luxury vehicle crashed into a divider near Roorkee. Doctors first treated him in Dehradun before flying him to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. There, he underwent a crucial ligament reconstruction surgery on his right knee by Dr. Pardiwala.

Long Road to Recovery and Return to Cricket of Rishabh Pant

The 27-year-old spent over a year out of competitive cricket while undergoing extensive rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He made a much-awaited comeback to professional cricket in IPL 2024 with Delhi Capitals, and ever since, he has surprised fans and critics alike with his show.

Most notably, Rishabh Pant wrote history in a Test match against England at Headingley, becoming the first Indian wicketkeeper to have two centuries in the same game. He highlighted the moment with a dramatic somersault celebration, which he had also performed during an IPL 2025 game for the Lucknow Super Giants.

Surgeon Praises Agility but Criticizes Risky Celebrations

Telling The Telegraph, Dr. Pardiwala referred to the gymnast background of Pant and his excellent flexibility, but highlighted the avoidable risk factor in doing so.

“Rishabh was trained as a gymnast – and so while he appears big, he is very flexible, and he has a lot of flexibility,” Pardiwala commented.
“And that’s why he’s been performing those somersaults recently. It’s a well-practiced and perfected trick – unnecessary though!”

He also spoke of Pant’s change and maturity after the accident, declaring his survival “extremely lucky” and crediting the near-death experience for his new outlook.

“He realises he was extremely lucky to be alive. He’s so driven as a cricketer. He’s a more mature human being.”

He further added that “Hemore appreciative of life and everything surrounding it,” Pardiwala said.”

Rishabh Pant Form Sparks Debate Over Test Legacy

Although rusty in initial matches upon his comeback in IPL 2024, Pant soon found his rhythm again. His consecutive Test centuries have once again sparked discussions regarding his standing among India’s all-time greatest Test wicketkeepers.

Team India and the fans now expect him to keep turning his form into frequent match-winning performances in the coming months.

</excerpt>

Rishabh Pant’s doctor Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, who operated on him after his life-threatening car crash in 2022, labeled the somersault celebration as ‘unnecessary’. After his century against England in the initial Test match, Pant executed an amazing summersault that left fans and pundits aghast.

But in an interview with The Telegraph, Dr Pardiwala stated that while Pant has trained as a gynmast and has the training and agility to execute it, the somersault celebration is perhaps not needed.

“It’s a perfectly executed and rehearsed move unnecessary though!” he added.

Rishabhi Pant’s First Concern After Accident

When Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai with serious injuries sustained during a road accident in December 2022, his first question to the on-duty doctor was “will I be able to play again?” related Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, eminent orthopaedic surgeon, who operated upon the cricketing superstar after the gruesome accident.

The Accident That Nearly Ended Rishabh Pant’s Career

Rishabh Pant, who was driving from Delhi to his hometown Roorkee on December 30, 2022, lost control of his vehicle which skidded into a divider and inflicted critical injuries upon him. The car immediately caught fire, and it was only due to the timely intervention of bystanders that Pant was pulled out in time.

Severe Injuries and Miraculous Survival

He was extracted from the wreckage, and Pardiwala stated, “Rishabh Pant was miraculously alive – enormously lucky.” “When he first arrived, he had his right knee dislocated. He had a fracture in his right ankle too, loads of other minor injuries everywhere. He had a lot of skin loss as well, so all his skin at the back of the neck down to his knees was scrapped off in the process of that accident,” Pardiwala explained to The Telegraph, describing the vicious effect of the crash on Pant’s body.

</excerpt>

Rishabh Pant created history at Headingley on Monday, becoming just the second wicketkeeper-batter in Test history to score centuries in both innings of a match. The 27-year-old Indian achieved the rare feat during the first Test against England, following in the footsteps of Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower, who scored 142 and 199* against South Africa in Harare back in 2001.

Highest Match Aggregate by an Indian Wicketkeeper-Batter

Pant’s scores of 134 in the first innings and 118 in the second gave him a match aggregate of 252 runs the highest by an Indian wicketkeeper in a single Test. He broke a 61-year-old record held by Budhi Kunderan, who had amassed 230 runs against England in Chennai in 1964.

Surpasses Dhoni’s Record for Most Test Centuries by an Indian Wicketkeeper

In the first innings, Pant also overtook M.S. Dhoni’s record for the most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper. His 134-run knock was his seventh in Test cricket, moving past Dhoni’s tally of six. The innings was a trademark Pant effort aggressive and fearless featuring 12 boundaries and six towering sixes off just 178 deliveries.

Pant continued his outstanding performance in the second innings with a fluent 118 before being out. His counterattacking cricket kept the scoreboard moving as India established a powerful lead. Although he couldn’t remain unbeaten, his 118-run innings kept India in a strong position for most of the match.

Rishabh Pant Becomes Seventh Indian with Twin Test Tons

Pant has now joined just seven Indian players in a lifetime’s work who have achieved twin centuries in a single Test, and he is in exalted company alongside Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Hazare, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahane. He is also only the second wicketkeeper in the history of the game to achieve the distinction, emphasizing its rarity and value.

Rishabh Pant Joins Hall of Test Greats with Twin-Ton Milestone

Having achieved twin centuries at Headingley, Pant is now part of an elite club of cricketers around the world who have hit hundreds in both innings of a Test match a list that includes greats such as Don Bradman, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, and Jacques Kallis. It speaks volumes about Pant’s exceptional consistency, flexibility, and match-winning ability in the longest game.

</excerpt>

Rishabh Pant officially stepped out of MS Dhoni’s towering shadow on Saturday as he slammed his seventh Test century, becoming the Indian wicketkeeper with the most hundreds in Test cricket. The landmark knock came in the opening Test of the five-match series against England at Headingley, and marked a new era in India’s long tradition of wicketkeeper-batters.

Pant’s latest ton took him past MS Dhoni’s tally of six Test centuries, a record that had remained untouched since the former India skipper retired from the longest format. Dhoni, known for his grit and leadership, had long set the benchmark for Indian wicketkeepers. But with this century, Pant now leads the charts, underlining his place among India’s finest red-ball cricketers.

Pant’s Century Marks a Shift in Wicketkeeping Legacy

While Dhoni’s six centuries came over a long and celebrated career, Pant has notched up seven in just a few years, all while batting with flair, confidence, and maturity beyond his age. His latest hundred was also his third in England, making him the only visiting wicketkeeper in Test history to achieve that feat in the country.

The updated list of Indian wicketkeepers with most Test centuries now reads:

Rishabh Pant – 7

MS Dhoni – 6

Wriddhiman Saha – 3

Pant’s emergence is a reminder of the way Indian cricketing priorities have changed. From Kiran More and Nayan Mongia, glovesmen almost by definition, to Dhoni, who provided balance and leadership, and now to Pant an attacking batter who can turn matches around on his own the keeper’s role has changed immensely.

Domination in England Contributes to Pant’s aura

This century was also Pant’s third in England, after previous ones in 2018 and 2022. No other foreign visiting wicketkeeper has hit more than a century in England. The only two others to have hit three Test hundreds outside their homeland are Les Ames (in the West Indies) and Andy Flower (in India).

Pant’s dominance in England is particularly impressive considering the conditions of seaming and swing-friendly pitches. His aggressive strokeplay, particularly against pace and spin both, has enabled him to thrive in conditions where most overseas batsmen find it challenging.

Rishabh Pant Among the Game’s Elite

Globally, Pant is gradually ascending the list of all-time great wicketkeeper-batters. The top wicketkeepers with the most Test centuries are headed by:

Adam Gilchrist (Australia) – 17

Andy Flower (Zimbabwe) – 12

Les Ames (England) – 8

Rishabh Pant / AB de Villiers (South Africa) – 7

To be mentioned alongside the likes of AB de Villiers and Les Ames is a testament to Pant’s influence, particularly in light of his age and the fact that his prime years are still likely to come.

</excerpt>

Former India cricketer Hemang Badani believes Rishabh Pant should not let his new vice-captaincy role affect the way he plays in the upcoming Test series against England.

According to Badani, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir should keep the message simple. He said, “Rishabh, tu apna game khel, forget that you are the vice captain of Team India.”

Pant to Lead India’s New Test Era

Rishabh Pant has officially become part of India’s Test leadership group for the first time. He steps into this position at a crucial moment, as Shubman Gill begins his captaincy stint.

India lost a massive amount of experience recently, with R Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli retiring from Test cricket. In total, nearly 300 Tests worth of experience disappeared overnight.

Even so, Pant’s presence gives Indian fans hope. His fearless batting has often rescued India, especially in overseas conditions.

Pant’s Test Credentials Remain Solid

Though he didn’t shine during India’s last tour to Australia, and even had a tough IPL 2025 season with Lucknow Super Giants, Pant remains one of India’s best red-ball batters.

His record speaks for itself — 1681 runs in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) at an average of 37.81, with centuries everywhere except New Zealand.

Badani pointed out that even in just five years, Pant has already played “some of the best knocks by an Indian in overseas conditions.”

Memorable Knock in England

During India’s last Test in England, Pant smashed 146 runs off 111 balls after the team was struggling at 98 for 5. It was his second Test hundred in England, showing his consistency there.

Pant made his international debut in Nottingham seven years ago and hit a six on just his second ball. That aggressive mindset is what makes him special.

Practice Shows Pant is in Rhythm

Leading up to the England series starting June 20, Pant looked sharp in training. At Lord’s, he reportedly dented the stadium roof. In Beckenham, his powerful sixes forced nearby residents to duck for cover.

This form suggests Pant is ready to go full throttle again.

Badani Warns Against Burdening Pant

Badani, who now coaches Delhi Capitals, said he wants to see Pant play freely, without the burden of vice-captaincy slowing him down.

He stated, “I genuinely hope it doesn’t change one bit… I don’t see any reason why you should try and change that.”

Let Pant Stay Pant

Badani believes Gambhir and the Indian team management must remind Pant to stay true to his style. He stressed that Pant became vice-captain not because he played safe, but because his bold and positive approach delivered results.

He added, “It’s important that someone like Gautam Gambhir, the head coach, has a chat with him and speaks to him and says, ‘Rishabh tu apna game khel.’ Don’t think too hard about captaincy, vice captaincy… none of that.”

Pant Likely to Bat at No.5

With senior players gone, changes in India’s batting line-up are certain. But Pant’s position at No.5 seems fixed. Badani feels this spot gives him the chance to put pressure back on bowlers.

He said, “You want to keep the bowling on the mat… rather than keep leaving balls and let them settle down into a good line and length.”

Freedom is Key to Pant’s Success

Badani believes the team management must let Pant play freely. He warned that if Pant is held back, his balance could be disrupted.

However, he added confidently, “He does have the right balance.” So the focus should be on letting him attack when needed and trusting his instincts.

On Tuesday, Nicholas Pooran officially ended his international career.
Pooran described his decision as a “difficult” one. He had recently requested West Indies selectors not to consider him for the England white-ball tour.

Impact on West Indies Cricket

Pooran’s retirement has come as a major blow to the West Indies team, especially with the T20 World Cup 2026 still months away.
As the most capped and highest-scoring T20I player for the West Indies, his absence will be deeply felt.

Career Filled with Highs and Challenges

Pooran’s international career began in 2016. Despite facing a ban in 2019 for ball tampering, he managed to make a strong comeback.
He even led the West Indies to a 4-1 series victory over Australia in Kieron Pollard’s absence. His final appearance for the team came against Bangladesh, where West Indies suffered an 80-run defeat in Kingstown.

A Look at the Numbers

Since his debut, Pooran played 106 T20 Internationals and 61 One-Day Internationals.
In T20Is, he scored 2,275 runs with an average of 26.14 and a strike rate of 136.39.
In ODIs, he tallied 1,983 runs at an average of 39.66, striking at 99.15. His record includes three centuries and eleven half-centuries.

Farewell Message to Fans

In his retirement note on Instagram, Pooran shared his emotions about representing the Caribbean side, “Wearing that maroon, standing for the anthem, and giving everything I had each time I stepped on the field… it’s hard to put into words what that truly means to me. To have led the team as captain is a privilege I will always hold close to my heart.”

</excerpt>

Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant smashed a dazzling hundred in the team’s last match of the Indian Premier League 2025. Pant shredded Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Ekana Stadium on May 27, finishing his second century of the competition.

IPL 2025 Struggles and Record Price Tag of Rishabh Pant

Acquired by LSG for a record amount of Rs 27 crore in the super-auction prior to IPL 2025, Pant had a disastrous season. Low on confidence throughout the tournament, on Tuesday, he brought back memories of his class with a special 54-ball century against RCB, who were looking to finish in the top-two this season.

Pant hit 10 fours and 6 sixes on his way to his century just his second 50+ score of the season. It was arguably Pant’s best performance in recent IPL seasons. His previous century in the competition was way back in the 2018 season, where he scored an unbeaten 128 against SunRisers Hyderabad, a performance which is still the highest individual score by a Delhi Capitals batsman.

Iconic Backflip Celebration of Rishabh Pant

On Tuesday, Rishabh Pant marked his milestone with a commemorative backflip a first by him in any cricketing ground. The celebration with that backflip appeared to indicate that he was still on top and just experiencing a temporary dip in his career.

What a comeback — not just a return, but a somersault of confidence. 💥🔥 #RishabhPant

Pant’s Final Numbers for IPL 2025

Rishabh Pant concluded with 118 runs not out off a mere 61 balls. The batter concluded his innings with 11 fours and 8 sixes. The LSG captain concluded his IPL 2025 with 269 runs in 14 games, for an average of 24.45. He struck at a rate of 133.17, a number that was hugely supported by his last innings against RCB.

Pant’s century drained RCB’s hopes from their bid for the top 2 positions this year. RCB were eager to qualify in the top 2 positions since this would have provided them with a buffer of an extra match on their way to the final of the tournament.

</excerpt>

Rishabh Pant’s stunning century in Lucknow in the last league match of IPL 2025 created outrage but none bigger than the response from LSG owner Dr. Sanjiv Goenka. In a one-word retweet filled with emotion, Goenka tweeted “‘Pant’astic!”, encapsulating the joy that the team and its supporters experienced following their captain’s emphatic return to touch.

A Knock to Remember by Rishabh Pant

Entering the battle against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Pant’s season had been one to forget. With only 151 runs from 11 innings at a modest average of 13.73 and a sub-par strike rate of 107.09, the pressure was overwhelming. But on the evening when it mattered the most, Pant stepped up, hitting a 54-ball hundred in the 18th over (17.5) his second IPL century and his first in seven years.

This scorching century not only muted the sceptics but also became the fastest Lucknow Super Giants batter century in the IPL history. The record came in a do-or-die game for RCB, who are jostling for a top-two spot on the points table.

Partnership That Set the Stage Ablaze between Rishabh Pant, Marsh

Pant’s innings formed the bedrock of LSG’s pummeling 227/3 score after being asked to bat. The left-handed southpaw paired up with Mitchell Marsh in a ferocious 152-run stand. Marsh was also in unplayable touch, hammering 67 runs from only 37 deliveries. The duo dismantled the RCB bowling together and ensured LSG had a near-impossible score posted.

High Stakes, Timely Redemption

For RCB, the match was of vital importance win would have ensured a top-two spot and entry into Qualifier 1 against Punjab Kings. But Pant’s timely re-emergence cast a spanner in their works. His innings was not merely about scoring runs it was about revival, captaincy, and silencing critics with the bat.

Pant’s performance in this pressure game has reignited debates about his match-winning potential and reminded the world why he remains highly rated within the Indian cricketing circuit. With the playoffs around the corner, Pant’s comeback could not have been more opportune for himself, for LSG, and for the fans who never lost faith.

The 25-year-old batter now leads India into a crucial five-Test series vs England.
</excerpt>

India has ushered in a new era in red-ball cricket, appointing 25-year-old Shubman Gill as the 20th Test captain. The Punjab-born batter will lead the side in the upcoming five-match Test series against England, starting June 20, 2025. The leadership transition follows the retirement of stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket earlier this May.

Major Setback Prompts Leadership Change

The announcement comes on the heels of a difficult phase for Indian cricket. Earlier in 2025, India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 to Australia, marking Australia’s first Test series win on Indian soil in 14 years. This came after India’s stunning 3-0 home series whitewash against New Zealand in late 2024, snapping a 12-year unbeaten home streak. With the team in need of revival, Gill now shoulders the responsibility of rebuilding India’s dominance in the longest format.

Gill’s Leadership Journey So Far

Despite his young age, Gill brings valuable leadership experience. He is currently the vice-captain of India’s ODI side and has led Gujarat Titans in 25 IPL matches, registering 14 wins. He also captained India in five T20Is, winning four of them. While his experience in Test leadership is limited, both teammates and coaching staff have acknowledged his cricketing intelligence and calm leadership style.

Rohit Sharma Bids Goodbye to Test Cricket

Rohit Sharma, aged 38, announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7, 2025, through an Instagram story. Expressing his gratitude, he wrote: “It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format.”

Virat Kohli’s Emotional Exit

Just five days later, on May 12, Virat Kohli also called time on his Test career. In a heartfelt Instagram post, he said: “It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life.”

Shubman Gill’s Record-Breaking Achievements

Gill’s rise has been powered by consistent performances across formats:

Fastest Indian to 1,000 ODI runs: Achieved in just 19 innings.

</excerpt>

Star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has finally spoken about swirling rumors hinting at his departure from the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) following a lackluster IPL 2025 season. A social media message had reported that LSG officials were keen to release Pant before IPL 2026, mentioning his ₹27 crore price and lackluster performance. Pant struck back at the reports with force, denouncing the generation of misinformation on social media.

Pant Slams Viral Post Hinting His LSG Exit

Pant, acquired by LSG for a record ₹27 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, had a forgettable season. He scored just 135 runs in 12 games, averaging 12.27 – the worst in his IPL career. With LSG failing to make the playoffs, a journalist posted on X

(formerly Twitter)

In response, Pant took to social media and wrote:

“I get fake News provides more traction To content but let’s not built everything around it. Little sense and credible news will do more harm rather creating fake news with agenda. Thanks have a good day. Let’s be responsible and sensible what we post on social media.”

LSG’s High Hopes Dashed Despite Star-Studded Lineup

The Sanjiv Goenka-owned team went into the IPL 2025 season with a lot of hopes, particularly following the signing of a marquee player like Pant. The batting unit of LSG featured heavies such as Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and David Miller. The team was unable to qualify for the top four despite the star power.

Their aspirations for a knockout spot were undone following a decisive loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad last week. The defeat mathematically ruled them out of playoff contention, which led to sharp criticism of the team’s tactics and performances of the players.

Owner Sanjiv Goenka Reflects on Disappointing Campaign

In the aftermath of the exit talk, team owner Sanjiv Goenka posted his thoughts on social media, with an emphasis on the takeaways of the season. “It’s been a tough second half of the season, but there is lots to take heart from. The passion, the work rate, and the flashes of brilliance give us a lot to work on. Two more games to go. Let’s play with pride and finish on a high note. #LSGvsSRH,” he posted on X.

Goenka’s tweet indicates the team is still united in its determination to get together and work towards the long term instead of acting in haste over one bad season.

Social Media and Misinformation in the Limelight

The controversy has now brought into the limelight the effect of social media gossip on players and franchises. Pant’s vehement reaction is a sign of increasing concern over reputation and team image being affected by false news.

As LSG winds up the IPL 2025 season, attention will turn to how the franchise approaches its next moves — and whether Pant will remain the face of the team long-term.

</excerpt>

The brief IPL suspension didn’t aid Rishabh Pant in getting back into form as the Lucknow Super Giants captain failed once again against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. The wicketkeeper batter was knocked over for a mere 7 in the crucial do-or-die encounter in Lucknow. He peered somewhat in a hurry and remained in the center for merely six balls before playing it straight to Eshan Malinga, who clung to a difficult catch to see the left-hander return to the pavilion. It was yet another bat failure for Pant, who was signed for a record INR 27 crore.

Pant’s Disappointing Season

Pant has accounted for 128 runs in 12 games at a disappointing strike rate of 99.22, as the wicketkeeper batter has been under the scanner. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka also showed his frustration at Pant’s cheap dismissal on Monday and stormed out of the stadium’s balcony in anger. His reaction quickly went viral on social media, and fans heavily trolled Pant for his disappointing performance this season.

Sanjiv Goenka’s reaction to Rishab Pant’s early dismissal is understandable. Despite buying in ₹27 crores, Pant couldn’t score 27 runs in the last 5 IPL innings. #LSGvsSRH pic.twitter.com/DIVSNK7bDO

The costliest IPL player has not made even a single half-century this year, and his team is facing relegation.

IPL Match Details: SRH vs LSG Amidst Strong Start for Sunrisers

Earlier, Sunriser skipper Pat Cummins had won the toss and decided to bowl first at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. SRH have replaced two players, including Harsh Dubey and Atharva Taide for Travis Head and Jaydev Unadkat. LSG has handed a debut to New Zealand pacer Will O’Rourke in the place of David Miller.

After losing the toss, Pant stated that team doesn’t wish to pressure themselves unduly.

“We don’t mind, we have got to do well. We are looking at one match at a time and not putting undue pressure on ourselves. I feel that as a team, we have regrouped well, and we are in a good space as a team. We have only one change, Will O’Rourke is making his debut,” Pant said at the toss.

Batting first, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram stitched a solid 115-run stand for the opening wicket. Their partnership laid the groundwork for a big total. Marsh smashed 65 off just 39 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes. Markram, at the other end, contributed a fluent 61 from 38 deliveries. The Proteas batsman hit four sixes and an equal number of fours.

Rishabh Pant’s disappointing form in IPL 2025 persisted on Sunday. He was dismissed for just 18 runs off 17 balls in Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) match against Punjab Kings. The game took place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. LSG lost by 37 runs, significantly hurting their chances of making the playoffs.

Pant batted at No. 4, but his luck didn’t improve. In the eighth over of the chase, he attempted a lofted shot against Azmatullah Omarzai. However, he lost his grip on the bat, sending it flying towards the square-leg region. Meanwhile, the ball went straight to Shashank Singh at sweeper cover, who took an easy catch.

Frustration on Display

Pant walked off the field, looking up at the sky, clearly frustrated with his dismissal. His disappointment was evident. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, who was present during the match, also appeared resigned. Earlier, he had shown frustration after Nicholas Pooran’s early dismissal in the powerplay.

Pant’s poor performance triggered harsh reactions from fans on social media. Many even called for his removal from the team. The wicketkeeper-batter was bought for a record INR 27 crore at the auction last November. This made him the most expensive player in IPL history. However, he has struggled to live up to expectations.

Below-Par Performance in IPL 2025

In 11 matches so far, Pant has only scored 128 runs at a strike rate of 99.22. He has managed just one half-century. This season has been his worst in IPL history since debuting in 2016. Fans and the franchise are both disappointed with his ongoing struggles.

Saturday evening’s IPL 2025 clash between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants began with a light-hearted moment as the toss had to be redone due to an amusing slip-up by LSG skipper Rishabh Pant.

Under pressure to revive their season, interim Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag flipped the coin, but Pant forgot to make his call. As the coin landed, a brief silence followed, leaving everyone — including the match referee — puzzled. Broadcaster Simon Doull then requested a second toss.

While the toss mix-up brought smiles, the stakes of the match remained serious. LSG entered the contest fifth on the points table with four wins from seven games. In contrast, the Royals were struggling at eighth, having won only two matches.

The Royals’ regular captain, Sanju Samson, missed the match due to injury, pushing Riyan Parag to take the reins.

“We were looking to bowl,” Parag said at the toss. “It is a little bit warm under lights, should be better than the last time. Vaibhav the youngster comes in.”

</excerpt>

Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant has been fined for his team’s slow over-rate during Match 16 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday, April 4.

Rishabh Pant The Third Captain To Be Penalised This Season

Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant is the third skipper to be fined for slow over-rate in the IPL 2025 season. Pant joins the list comprissing of Mumbai Indians’ Hardik Pandya and Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag. Pandya and Parag had also received similar fines for their respective teams’ slow over-rates earlier in the season.

Since this was his team’s inaugural offence of the season as per Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 12 Lakh.

Digvesh Rathi Fined for Independent Code of Conduct Offence

LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi has been fined 50 percent of his match fees in an independent offence. Rathi faced a was charge against him for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. This was his second Level 1 offence against Article 2.5 of the season and thus, he has gained Two more Demerit Points.

Rathi also gained a Demerit Point which he gained in LSG’s game against Punjab Kings. The decision of the Match Referee is final and binding in cases of Level 1 infractions of the Code of Conduct.

LSG Clinch 12-Run Win Over Mumbai Indians

While this, Lucknow Super Giants came back into winning ways with their bowlers’ spirited display leaving the visitors 12 runs behind the target. Mitchell Marsh (60 off 31) and Aiden Markram (53 off 38) set up the platform for a 200-plus score. This searing start was used to great advantage by Ayush Badoni and David Miller

The cameo-quickfire by Badoni (19-ball 30) and Miller (14-ball 27) made sure that the initial momentum was not wasted. With the ball, all Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan and Digvesh came back with a wicket to their name. While Digvesh winning the Player of the Match award for his frugal spell of 1 for 21 in four overs.

LSG will travel to Kolkata for their upcoming match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 8 while Mumbai Indians will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru a day earlier, on April 7.

Despite Pant’s struggles, LSG secured a dominant five-wicket win over SRH, thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 70 and Shardul Thakur’s 4-34. Pant’s slow strike rate and underwhelming captaincy remain major concerns for LSG.
</excerpt>

When you’re Rishabh Pant, expectations are always sky-high. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spent a record ₹27 crore in the IPL mega auction, only for their captain to deliver underwhelming performances. While Pant is renowned for bringing the thrill of T20-style batting to Test cricket, his inconsistency in the shortest format continues to puzzle fans. With a career T20 strike rate of 127, his sluggish start to IPL 2025 has only intensified criticism.

His own performance has been forgettable so far, scoring a six-ball duck in LSG’s first match against his previous team, Delhi Capitals (DC), and a sluggish 15 off 15 balls in the subsequent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Although his batting didn’t influence the result of the match—thanks to blistering knocks by Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh—his failure on batting-friendly surfaces has annoyed fans. Of all the batters who reached double figures in SRH vs LSG, Pant’s strike rate was the lowest. In 21 deliveries that he has faced this season, he has only managed to score six runs and hasn’t even hit a boundary yet. And to add insult to injury, his captaincy and wicketkeeping were cited as the reason for LSG’s humiliating defeat to DC even though they controlled the game for most of it.

TV Anchor’s On-Air Meltdown

Pant’s disastrous beginning created a drastic response from a sports anchor on a top Indian YouTube sports channel. In a live show, the anchor was so infuriated that he threw objects at a television screen and almost knocked a glass table over in anger at Pant’s poor performances.

“IPL is underway. He (Rishabh Pant) got his opportunity but let me tell you, he is predictable now. You cannot rely on him. What kind of a captain is he? We don’t require such a captain,” the angry presenter shouted before brutally assaulting the studio equipment.

In spite of Pant’s travails, LSG registered a good comeback against SRH, winning comfortably by five wickets with 23 balls remaining.

Pooran, Shardul Shine in LSG’s Triumph

Nicholas Pooran stole the show with a 26-ball 70, which consisted of six fours and six sixes, helping LSG hunt down 191 in 16.1 overs. His rampage tore the opposing team apart on a flat Hyderabad surface.

LSG, captained by the costliest IPL player Rishabh Pant, lost Aiden Markram early but gained steadiness through a scintillating 116-run association between Pooran and Mitchell Marsh (52) in more than seven overs. Pooran was then dismissed lbw by Pat Cummins, with LSG standing at 120-2 in the ninth over.

Pant came in when LSG were well in the ascendancy but could not get going, making a run-a-ball 15 before mis-hitting a full toss from Harshal Patel. His wicket came after Marsh’s, who got out to his Australian teammate Cummins earlier. Ayush Badoni got out cheaply though, but Abdul Samad’s 22 off eight balls at a brisk rate helped LSG romp to victory.

Earlier in the game, LSG had held SRH to 190-9 after a win in the toss. Travis Head provided SRH with a good beginning with a quick 47, but Shardul Thakur stole the show with an all-time career-best IPL show. Though he went unsold in the auction, Thakur was subsequently picked as an injury replacement and stamped his authority immediately, taking 4-34. He gave a vital double strike in the third over when he sent Abhishek Sharma (6) and Ishan Kishan (0) off back-to-back deliveries.

While she succumbed, he remains critical as police investigate the case.

While Rajat, 25, is in a critical state, his girlfriend Monu Kashyap, 21, died from poisoning in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district.

Sources said that Rajat and Monu had been dating for the last five years. However, their families opposed them because they belonged to different communities.

“Both would talk to each other for hours on the phone, but their families were displeased with their relationship. The girl was meant to be wed somewhere else,” sources added.

The girl’s family excluded her from seeing Rajat, and his family, too, decided to get her married to another boy. Though Monu and Rajat repeatedly tried to convince their families, but did not succeed. Ultimately, the families put stringent restrictions on them so that they were compelled to discontinue their meetings.

Tragic Suicide Pact

Heartbroken and frustrated, the couple decided to end their lives. On Tuesday, they took poison in Buchcha Basti village, which comes under the Purkaji police station jurisdiction. A resident of the village noticed them rolling on the ground and alerted people. By the time their relatives reached there, the effect of the poison had already set in.

They both were taken to the hospital by ambulance in serious condition. Monu’s family later moved her to another facility, but she died before dawn on Tuesday. Nevertheless, Rajat is still receiving treatment and seems to be getting better.

Police Investigation Underway

Soon after Monu’s cremation, her mother filed a case against Rajat, accusing him of poisoning her daughter. Muzaffarnagar SP Satyanarayan Prajapat confirmed that no police case was registered until Monu’s mother stepped in.

‘Want at least 5 IPL titles. People will say Mahi and Rohit…’: LSG owner on Rishabh Pant’s 14-15 year career plan

<excerpt>LSG’s Rishabh Pant, priced at ₹27 crore, is set to redefine IPL history as Sanjiv Goenka envisions five titles in 15 years.
</excerpt>

Former Australian coach Justin Langer made no secret of his admiration for Rishabh Pant during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, frequently applauding Pant’s bold strokeplay. To him, Pant wasn’t just a dynamic wicketkeeper-batter for India but also Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) biggest hope for clinching the IPL title. After an intense bidding war in last year’s mega auction, Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history, securing a staggering ₹27 crore price tag. LSG, seeking a fresh leader following three underwhelming seasons under KL Rahul, saw Pant as the perfect opportunity.

While appointing Pant as captain was a mere formality, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka’s comments about the young cricketer carried weight. Goenka expressed confidence in Pant’s longevity and success with the franchise. “Surely Rishabh Pant will play for at least 14-15 years for us; we hope at least five IPL titles in these years,” Goenka stated.

Goenka didn’t shy away from comparisons to IPL legends. “People say that MI and CSK are more successful. Mahi and Rohit are undeniably brilliant. Mark my words, after 10 years, people will say, Mahi, Rohit, and Rishabh,” he remarked. Dhoni and Rohit each have five IPL titles to their names with CSK and MI, respectively. With a new IPL season approaching, Goenka is backing Pant to emerge as one of the league’s greatest leaders.

Goenka further praised Pant’s passion and hunger to win. “In my belief, time will prove that he is not only the most successful player of the IPL, but he is going to be the best player of the IPL. I haven’t seen players with that kind of passion and hunger to win,” he said.

Pant, no stranger to captaincy, previously led Delhi Capitals for three seasons, guiding them in 43 matches, with 24 wins and a 56% success rate. However, his appointment as Delhi’s captain in 2021 was initially due to Shreyas Iyer’s injury. With LSG, Pant now takes on the role by design, not by chance.

The weight of a ₹27 crore price tag can often pressure players, but Goenka dismissed such concerns. “The price tag ended when the auction concluded. Every team has spent 120 crores. It is not relevant how much you spend on a single player or the rest,” he said.

Goenka also emphasized Pant’s unconventional thinking as a key factor in his leadership potential. “His thought process is a little different. If you go with a conventional thought process, then it isn’t unique. I see an in-born leader in him. According to me, he will be the best captain that IPL has ever seen,” he added.

Pant’s move to LSG wasn’t without competition; teams like Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore were also vying for his signature. However, LSG’s determination ensured they landed their top target. “I was clear that I wanted him, and I would take it,” Goenka concluded.

</excerpt>

Rishabh Pant, the swashbuckling Indian wicketkeeper-batter, achieved a significant milestone by completing 5,000 runs in international cricket during his quickfire 61 runs against Australia in Sydney. The 27-year-old reached this feat in the ongoing fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Saturday.

Pant‘s knock came after a steady 40 in 98 balls in the first innings, with three fours and a six. In the second innings, he unleashed his aggressive style, hitting a six off the first ball against Scott Boland and finishing with 61 off just 33 balls, which included six fours and four sixes, at an impressive strike rate of 184.85.

Throughout the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Pant has not been at his best but still managed to score 255 runs in five matches across nine innings, with an average of 28.33. He ranks as the sixth-highest run-scorer in the series. In total, Pant has made 5,028 international runs in 150 matches, averaging 33.97 with seven centuries and 23 fifties in 168 innings. His best score is 159*.

In Test cricket, Pant has scored 2,948 runs in 43 matches at an average of 42.11, including six centuries and 15 fifties. His ODI record includes 871 runs from 31 matches, with a century and five fifties. In T20Is, Pant has made 1,209 runs at a strike rate of 127.26, with four half-centuries.

In the ongoing match, India faced a tough start as the top order struggled. Virat Kohli (17) continued his issues with deliveries outside off-stump, but Pant (40) and Ravindra Jadeja (26) held their ground, pushing India to a total of 185/10 in 72.2 overs. Scott Boland was the standout bowler for Australia, taking 4/31, with Mitchell Starc (3/49) and Pat Cummins (2/37) contributing as well.

Australia’s first innings saw India dominate, dismissing them for 181 runs and taking a narrow four-run lead. Beau Webster (57) and Steve Smith (33) stood out for Australia. Prasidh Krishna (3/42) and Mohammed Siraj (3/51) were India’s key bowlers.

In their second innings, India struggled, with only Yashasvi Jaiswal (22) and KL Rahul (13) making any impact. Boland continued to be a thorn for the Indian batters, claiming 4/42. At the end of the day, India was 141/6, with Jadeja (8*) and Sundar (6*) at the crease.Rishabh Pant Achieves Milestone of 5,000 International Runs for India

The decision surprised fans and analysts alike.

Delhi Capitals’ new head coach Hemang Badani, who succeeded Ricky Ponting earlier this year, recently revealed why Pant was not retained. According to Badani, the franchise was eager to keep Pant, but the 27-year-old opted to enter the auction instead, aiming to gauge his market value.

“I think it’s the other way around. He wanted not to be retained. He said he wanted to go in the auction and test the market,” Badani told Subramaniam Badrinath during an interview on the latter’s YouTube channel.

The coach explained that while Delhi’s management made extensive efforts to retain Pant, including numerous discussions and exchanges, the wicketkeeper was firm in his decision. “He said he had a feeling that there were chances he would get more money than the highest cap for a retained player, which is ₹18 crore. And, at the end of the day, he felt he was worth more,” Badani said.

Pant’s intuition proved correct, as he was signed for a record ₹27 crore by the Lucknow Super Giants during the auction held in Jeddah on November 24 and 25. Reflecting on the move, Badani added, “Good for him. He is a very good player. We will obviously miss him. But life goes on.”

Pant remains Delhi Capitals’ most capped player and the leading run-scorer in their IPL history.

</excerpt>

India started their Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 with a full throttle win as they defeated Australia by 295 runs in the first Test. The game saw the glitter of Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli. Bumrah had been declared the Player of the Match, with eight wickets, while claiming five wickets in the initial innings. Kohli for the first time in such long time proved himself for which he was signed into his team, as the play provided a strong base to lead the team towards the success with his 30th Test century.

Allan Border praises Rishabh Pant.

As the series enters its second Test, former Australia captain Allan Border said which player he feared the most was Rishabh Pant talking to Cricblog.net about why he fears that the Batman can alter the game in lower down the order.

Looking at the way Rishabh Pant performed in Australia, Border was on his head saying, “Well, (Rishabh) Pant is one player that worries me…Because we have seen a bit of it like at the SCG in the last series. I mean, he can just take the game away from you. Batting at 7, he bats so quickly and scores his runs so quickly all past the ground.”

Border also expressed admiration for Pant’s wicketkeeping skills and was pleased to see him back on the field after recovering from a severe car accident in December 2022. “It’s just good to see him back playing, after his accident. So he’s one player I’ll be looking (forward to),” Border added.

Bumrah: Serious Bowler

Allan Border believes that India’s performance will also depend on the performance of Jasprit Bumrah. A “serious bowler” Bumrah has been, says Border: “He’s done well against Australia and in Australia in the past so if he’s in the lineup and is bowling well, I think you know then India have that psychological thing over a few of the Australian batsmen because he is a serious bowler.”

Border felt Bumrah’s performance could win the series’s balance in terms of confidence. “But if he doesn’t play well then the confidence obviously swings the other way. I think he’s the key,” Border stated. India would head into the second Test, and both Pant and Bumrah would surely play important roles in maintaining the momentum and testing the Australians.

Despite being bowled out for just 150 in their first innings, the Indian team, led by Jasprit Bumrah, staged a remarkable comeback. Stellar centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli helped India set a daunting target of 534. The bowlers then stepped up, dismissing Australia for 238, with exceptional performances from Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, giving India a 1-0 series lead.

Amidst the series, Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela shared a heartfelt message for wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. In a conversation with Filmygyan, when asked to give a hashtag for Pant, she said, “All the best for Australia.” This comes two years after her statement in an interview about someone named “RP” waiting to meet her at a hotel lobby stirred controversy. She later accused the media of overhyping the issue.

</excerpt>

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal finally spoke up on Tuesday, revealing why Rishabh Pant chose to leave the franchise. Even though Pant chose to leave, Delhi used their Right-To-Match card during the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah on Sunday but failed to match Lucknow Super Giants’ bid of INR 27 crore.

Speaking to RevSportz, Jindal shared that after last IPL season, the management gave Pant “honest feedback” regarding his performances and told him that they did not expect him to do that. However Pant didn’t take it properly and made the “emotional call” to the franchise to leave.

“Not retaining Pant was not about ownership. It was a very collective decision. We had a lot of discussions with Rishabh. There were things that were expected of Rishabh, which we did not get in the last or in the previous seasons. We gave him an honest feedback. But the feedback was not taken as the way we expected it to be taken. He then took an emotional call,” Jindal explained.

Jindal also revealed that he and co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi had tried to convince Pant to stay with the team but the India batter had made up his mind.

According to the managing director of JSW Cement, although he had told Pant that they would not pursue him in the auction, emotions led him to try and pick him up. But the price was too high.

“He has also grown in this franchise, but what happened is not what I’m going to get into. It was a very prolonged long discussion and after that Pant decided not to stay. Me and Kiran tried made all efforts to keep him, but he decided to go in a different direction. I told Pant that we won’t go after him in the auction, but my heart took over and we tried picking him up. But the price was too high,” Jindal said.

Pant was eventually auctioned at INR 27 crores to Lucknow Super Giants. Initially, earlier in the day, Shreyas Iyer has been sold for INR 26.75 crore to Punjab Kings, setting a new highest record surpassing Mitchell Starc of INR 24.75 crore from last season. LSG also roped in 19 other players for this mega-auction that comes to an INR 68.90 crore.

This three-season contract will see Pant earning ₹9 crore a year. After taxes, however, his earning potential has shrunk drastically. The Indian government will cut down ₹8.1 crore for taxes from ₹27 crore in total, and leave Pant with only ₹18.9 crore across three years.

Injury and Payment Policies

If Pant does suffer an injury during the IPL, he will be paid the total contracted amount. However, in case of injuries before the tournament, the franchise is free to replace him without any payment liabilities except if the injury was suffered while playing for Team India. In such cases, BCCI’s insurance policy covers full compensation.

Players who are hired for the IPL are paid fully, regardless of whether they have played a single match. The payment is calculated if the player voluntarily pulls out or suffers an injury during the tournament.

Pant’s journey now becomes richly enchanting following his accident in 2022 as this sets him up to lead Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025.

The crash left him with severe injuries, including a ligament tear in his right knee and deep cuts on his forehead. The incident forced Pant out of competitive cricket for over a year. However, thanks to the heroic efforts of two individuals, Rajat Kumar and Nishu Kumar, the outcome could have been much worse.

The Heroes Who Saved Pant’s Life

Rajat and Nishu, workers at a nearby factory, became Pant’s saviors on that fateful day. Although they had no idea who he was at the time, their quick actions ensured his survival. They pulled Pant out of his mangled car and rushed him to a nearby hospital. As a token of his gratitude, Pant later gifted scooters to both Rajat and Nishu, acknowledging their life-saving efforts.

Coach’s Heart-Wrenching Account

Pant’s childhood coach, Devender Sharma, shared harrowing details about the cricketer’s condition after the accident. “The muscles were hanging out of his body. From the back neck to the lower waist, you could see his bone. It took five hours to put on the bandage. He was given anesthesia twice in the process. His body looked like a piece of wood, peeled completely,” Sharma recalled in an interview.

Pant’s Remarkable Comeback

Despite the severity of his injuries, Pant made a triumphant return to cricket. He first appeared in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, leading the Delhi Capitals. Subsequently, he returned to first-class cricket through the Duleep Trophy and secured a spot in India’s Test squad for home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Currently, he is playing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, showcasing his resilience and skill.

The Role of Family and Friends

Pant’s mother sought help from Umesh Kumar, an independent MLA from Uttarakhand, on the morning of the accident. His recovery journey also received immense support from family and friends, who played a vital role in his rehabilitation.

Ravi Shastri on Pant’s Miraculous Recovery

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri expressed amazement at Pant’s recovery. “Those two boys were godsent. They saved Rishabh’s life. The decision to take him to Dehradun also saved his life,” Shastri stated. He further added, “If you had seen him, you wouldn’t have given him a chance in hell to play cricket again. He was in terrible shape—battered, bruised, and scarred all over. To recover, play cricket again, and even represent a World Cup-winning team is nothing short of a miracle.”

A Story of Courage and Gratitude

Rishabh Pant’s journey from near-death to reclaiming his place in cricket serves as a powerful story of human resilience, courage, and gratitude.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is preparing for its much anticipated big auction, which will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 to 25. This marks only the second time the IPL auction is being held outside India, following the 2024 event in Dubai.

Player Pool and Expectations for IPL 2025

Star players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Jos Buttler, and Shreyas Iyer are expected to be at the center of intense bidding wars as teams aim to secure top talent.

Evolution of IPL Auction Spending (2008–2024)

In the initial years, IPL auctions were conducted in US dollars. During the inaugural season in 2008, total spending by teams reached $36.43 million. Over the next five editions, expenditures ranged from $3.65 million in 2010 to $62.775 million in 2011. From 2014 onwards, the currency shifted to Indian Rupees. The spending during this period showcased the league’s growing extravagance, with ₹262.6 crore spent in 2014 and peaking at ₹431 crore in 2018. Despite disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic, expenditures continued to rise, reaching ₹551.7 crore in 2022 and ₹230.45 crore in 2024.

IPL 2025 Auction Schedule and Format

The auction will begin at 3:30 PM IST, starting with the Marquee Sets, and will proceed until 5 PM IST. After a 45-minute break, the session will resume at 5:45 PM IST and conclude by 10:30 PM IST.

Rishabh Pant is set to fetch a massive price in the IPL 2025 auction. A mock auction conducted by Star Sports and JioCinema reveals that experts share this view. Pant was purchased for INR 33 crore by Punjab Kings (PBKS), represented by Eoin Morgan. Meanwhile, KL Rahul also saw an impressive bid of INR 29.5 crore, being bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), represented by Mike Hesson.

Pant’s High Value

Pant left Delhi Capitals (DC) before the auction, stating that money wasn’t the reason behind his decision. Still, his value remains incredibly high. PBKS, with the largest purse of INR 110.5 crore, is expected to target Pant aggressively. Morgan commented, “I anticipated his price to soar between Rs 26 and Rs 29 crore, but his eventual price was a record-shattering Rs 33 crore—deservedly so.”

PBKS Focuses on Pant

PBKS is well-equipped to pursue Pant, with their substantial budget. The team sees him as a long-term investment. With Ricky Ponting, former DC coach, now at PBKS, Pant could play a key role in their future plans. Morgan further explained, “Rishabh is not just a top-order left-handed batsman but also one of the most explosive players in modern cricket.”

KL Rahul’s Impressive Stock

KL Rahul’s stock has also risen, especially after his strong performance in the ongoing India-Australia Test series. Rahul decided to enter the auction pool, opting not to stay with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Hesson shared, “RCB would ideally prioritize Rishabh Pant to ensure continuity after Virat Kohli, especially for long-term stability. I personally bid up to ₹32.5 crore for Pant but wouldn’t have stretched as much for KL Rahul.”

KKR Re-Signs Shreyas Iyer

Reigning IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) also made a strong move, buying back captain Shreyas Iyer for INR 21 crore. Sanjay Bangar, representing KKR in the mock auction, highlighted the importance of leadership. “Shreyas is a proven winning captain, and in a dynamic format like T20, such leadership is invaluable,” he explained.

Other Notable Purchases

The mock auction also saw several other significant purchases:

Mitchell Starc: INR 18 crore – Mumbai Indians (MI)

Arshdeep Singh: INR 16.5 crore – Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Yuzvendra Chahal: INR 15 crore – Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Ishan Kishan: INR 15.5 crore – Delhi Capitals (DC)

Acknowledging Inflated Prices

Aakash Chopra, who represented DC in the mock auction, admitted that the prices were slightly inflated. He stated, “We’ll all agree that the prices discussed here are a little inflated, but the names I’m taking will fit the team’s strategy.”

The IPL 2025 auction is shaping up to be highly competitive. With top players like Pant and Rahul likely to bring in substantial bids, the results will influence each team’s strategy for the upcoming season.

</excerpt>

Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who has entered the IPL 2025 mega auction after parting with Delhi Capitals (DC), responded strongly to recent comments made by cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar. Gavaskar had suggested that Pant’s exit from DC might have stemmed from some sort of a disagreement over retention fees. Pant, associated with the franchise since 2016, was released ahead of the auction that will take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25.

He said, showing a video shared by Star Sports: “Players leave their teams to find out their real market value in the auction. Delhi would surely want Rishabh Pant back. There is negotiation over the fees expected during retention discussions, which has been seen with other players as some of the retained ones get more than the No. 1 retention fee. Maybe there was a disagreement there. My feeling is Delhi would want Pant back since they need a captain,” he said.

Reacting to these remarks, Pant clarified, saying, “My retention wasn’t about the money, for sure that I can say.”

Pant, injured from a car accident in IPL 2023, returned for IPL 202 for DC and was their top scorer as they finished sixth, failing to qualify for the playoffs for the third year in a row.

So much so, that many think Pant will fetch lucrative bids for himself when the IPL 2025 auction comes around. In all likelihood, his figure might even surpass Mitchell Starc’s when the latter was sold for ₹24.75 crore to KKR in the IPL 2024 auction. Experts feel that Pant is likely to draw above ₹25 crore.

</excerpt>

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma disclosed that wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant experienced swelling on his previously operated knee after taking a hit during the first Test against New Zealand. The incident occurred when Pant missed a sharply spinning delivery from Ravindra Jadeja in the 37th over of New Zealand’s innings, resulting in the ball striking his left knee—the same leg where he underwent multiple surgeries following his serious car accident in late 2022.

Pant was seen limping off the field soon after, and Dhruv Jurel stepped in as his replacement behind the stumps.

Concerns About Pant’s Health

Rohit Sharma explained the seriousness of the situation due to Pant’s previous surgeries but assured that the injury was being managed cautiously. “Unfortunately, the ball hit straight on his knee cap, the same leg which he has done a surgery. So, he has got a little bit of swelling on it and the muscles are quite tender at this point of time,” Rohit mentioned during the post-day press conference.

Precautionary Measures Taken

The Indian captain eased concerns over Pant’s fitness, clarifying that his exit from the field was a precautionary step. “It is a precautionary measure. We do not want to take a risk. Rishabh does not want to take a risk because he has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg,” Rohit added. He expressed hope that Pant would recover by the next day, saying, “Hopefully, tonight he can recover and we will see him back on the field tomorrow.”

Pant’s Contribution with the Bat

Earlier in the game, Pant was the top-scorer for India, contributing 20 runs in their low total of 46, continuing his efforts despite the injury scare.
