His journey inspires many to reconsider small-town living.
</excerpt>

Five years ago, Sumit Agrawal, a career coach, left a high-paying job in Mumbai to return to his hometown, Jamshedpur. What initially seemed like a leap into the unknown has turned out to be a transformative journey, offering a fresh perspective on work-life balance and quality of life.

Overcoming Initial Doubts

Having grown up in Jamshedpur, Sumit found the transition to fast-paced cities like Hyderabad and Mumbai daunting. When he decided to move back, apprehensions filled his mind.

“Thoughts like, ‘Will I have a social life?’, ‘What will weekends look like?’, and ‘Will the work environment be fulfilling?’ kept me up at night,” he revealed. However, the smaller-town lifestyle surprised him with unexpected benefits, reshaping his outlook entirely.

Five Reasons Jamshedpur Became the Perfect Choice

1. Stress-Free Commute
Sumit’s daily commute underwent a remarkable transformation. “I no longer spend 20-25% of my day in traffic. My 14-km office journey takes just 15 minutes, making me more productive and less irritable,” he shared.

2. Lower Living Costs
One of the most significant perks was the financial relief. “My expenses dropped substantially while maintaining a lifestyle comparable to that of a metropolitan city,” Sumit explained.

3. Affordable Convenience
From food delivery to e-commerce services, Jamshedpur offers urban amenities at a fraction of the cost. “Whether it’s cabs, events, or multiplexes, everything is budget-friendly without compromising convenience,” he said.

4. Peaceful Public Spaces
Unlike the crowded streets of Mumbai, Jamshedpur’s serene environment has made outdoor activities more enjoyable. “I no longer hesitate to step out on weekends due to overwhelming crowds,” he noted.

5. Time for Fitness
With fewer distractions and more manageable schedules, Sumit now enjoys ample time for fitness and sports—a luxury he rarely experienced in Mumbai.

Social Media Applauds His Choice

Sumit’s story resonated deeply with netizens, sparking conversations about the advantages of life in smaller towns.

One user commented, “This is so relatable! Smaller towns offer peace that big cities can’t match.” Another wrote, “I’ve been contemplating moving back to my hometown, and this story just solidified my decision.”

While some debated the trade-offs, others praised his choice, calling it “inspiring” and “practical.” Sumit’s journey underscores the possibility of finding success and fulfillment beyond the fast-paced chaos of urban life.

</excerpt>

Canada’s Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland resigns.

Read her letter here:

— Chrystia Freeland (@cafreeland) December 16, 2024

Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland abruptly resigned, citing policy disagreements with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Her departure comes just before the release of a fall economic update, expected to reveal a larger-than-projected deficit. Freeland’s letter suggests a recent offer from Trudeau for a different cabinet position, which she declined.

Canada’s Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland unexpectedly resigned on Monday, saying she was no longer on the same page with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about the best path forward for Canada.

Freeland quit just hours before she was due to present a fall economic update to parliament, a document widely expected to show the Liberal government had run up a much larger 2023/24 budget deficit than planned.

“For the last number of weeks, you and I have found ourselves at odds over the best path forward for Canada,” Freeland said in a letter to Trudeau posted on X.

Freeland, seen as one of Trudeau’s closest allies in cabinet, also served as deputy prime minister.

Domestic media reports said Freeland and Trudeau had clashed over a government proposal for temporary tax breaks and other spending measures.

</excerpt>

A product designer, Shreyas, resigned on his very first day at a new job due to his manager’s toxic behavior and unreasonable demands. Shreyas took to Reddit to share his experience, revealing a screenshot of his resignation email, which has since gone viral. He explained that despite accepting a position below industry standards for the benefit of remote work, the workplace environment quickly became unbearable.

Toxic Work Culture Unveiled on Day One

Shreyas joined the company as a product designer on October 7 but was soon disillusioned when his manager demanded he work 12 to 14-hour days without any additional compensation. Despite a standard 9-hour workday, his manager expected employees to regularly work overtime. When Shreyas raised concerns about maintaining a work-life balance, his manager dismissed it as a “fancy term” associated with “western developed nation behavior.”

HAVE A LOOK AT THE VIRAL POST:

Shreyas also mentioned that his boss ridiculed his desire to have personal time to read and exercise, brushing off these requests as “excuses.” Feeling belittled and attacked for valuing his life outside work, he submitted his resignation on the first day.

The Resignation Letter That Sparked a Discussion

In his resignation email, Shreyas addressed his manager’s unacceptable conduct. He emphasized that his manager’s remarks about his personal time—whether exercising, reading, or spending time with family—were inappropriate and unprofessional. He called out the manager’s demands for overtime without compensation and the “threatening” tone used when insisting on work being submitted within 48 hours.

Shreyas concluded his email by challenging his manager to make their Slack conversations public, inviting others to judge the appropriateness of the demands made.

Praise on Reddit

The post quickly gained traction on Reddit, with users applauding Shreyas for standing up to a toxic work environment. Many encouraged him to name and shame companies that exploit employees, while others expressed admiration for his bold stance against exploitative practices in modern workplaces.

This incident highlights the growing intolerance toward toxic work cultures and the increasing awareness of employee rights.

The protest followed a Facebook post by Asif Mahmud, an adviser to the Youth and Sports Ministry of the Interim government, calling for the chief justice’s unconditional resignation. </excerpt>

Hundreds of protesters surrounded the Bangladesh Supreme Court on Saturday, demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan and the judges of the Appellate Division. The protesters, including students and lawyers, gathered at the Supreme Court premises around 10:30 a.m., giving the chief justice a deadline to resign by 1 p.m. local time.

The demonstration was sparked by a Facebook post from Asif Mahmud, an adviser to the Youth and Sports Ministry of the Interim government, who called for the unconditional resignation of Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan. Mahmud also demanded the cancellation of a full court meeting planned to decide on the continuation of virtual court proceedings.

In response to the escalating protest, Chief Justice Hassan postponed the full court meeting, which was originally convened to address whether the court’s operations would continue virtually. </excerpt>

People resign for various reasons, but it often comes down to job dissatisfaction. This can arise from numerous factors such as limited growth opportunities, poor work-life balance, inadequate pay, toxic work environments, or feeling undervalued. While resignations are initiated by employees, unlike being fired which is initiated by employers, there are claims that some companies create situations that force employees to resign. This topic was highlighted in a LinkedIn post where a man argued that some companies, regardless of size, have adopted this strategy.

LinkedIn user Gagan Makin questioned, “What is forced resignation?” He explained, “When a company doesn’t have any issue with your performance but just can’t afford you and can’t pay enough, they create such circumstances that you end up resigning.”

“Many companies follow this strategy, be they big or small. Numerous employees have suffered from these kinds of policies and politics. Trust me when I say this: It can literally hinder your finances to the core. Companies are not all concerned about you; they will hire and fire in bulk,” he shared.

He concluded his post with, “So far, I have learned that you are easily replaceable, so please stop considering your company a priority and working like nothing is above this.”

LinkedIn users responded to the post with similar experiences. A marketing head wrote, “Yup. Sad reality of our times. Seen this happen a lot.” An entertainment journalist added, “This is what happened to me as well TBH.”

Another user commented, “I have also gone through this. I taught my junior colleague to help me reduce my workload, but the company replaced me and increased his salary. But what was the final result? After a few days, he was unable to handle the workload and resigned from the job.” A fourth user noted, “These companies are still hiring and onboarding new employees but not paying salaries on time.” Several users simply responded to the post with “true”.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Gagan Makin has a BCom from Delhi University and a degree in Digital Marketing from the University of Manchester. He is also the head of brand marketing for the Delhi Institute of Digital Marketing.

The delicacies presented to the Prime Minister included a “peda” from Chirawa in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu, VP Dhankhar’s hometown, and “gud” (jaggery) from Meerut, a prominent agricultural product from the area.

The Lok Sabha election results announced by the Election Commission of India revealed that BJP won 240 seats while Congress secured 99 seats. Compared to previous elections, BJP fell short of the majority mark by 32 seats, necessitating alliances for government formation.

In contrast, Congress showed significant progress, increasing its seats from 52 in 2019 to 99 this time. The Congress-led opposition coalition, INDIA bloc, surpassed expectations by securing over 230 seats.

</excerpt>

Congress leader Sam Pitroda resigned from his position as Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, which the party has accepted. Jairam Ramesh, another Congress leader, made the announcement on X, stating that Sam Pitroda had chosen to step down from the crucial role “of his own accord”.

Mr. Sam Pitroda has decided to step down as Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress of his own accord. The Congress…

— Jairam Ramesh (@Jairam_Ramesh) May 8, 2024

Pitroda faced criticism for his contentious comment suggesting that Indians in the East resemble the Chinese, while those in the South resemble Africans.

“We could hold together a country as diverse as India — where people on East look like Chinese, people on West look like Arab, people on North look like maybe White and people in South look like Africans. It doesn’t matter. We are all brothers and sisters,” Pitroda said during an interview with The Statesman.

The Congress promptly distanced itself from Pitroda’s comments, describing them as “unacceptable.”

“The analogies drawn by Mr Sam Pitroda in a podcast to illustrate India’s diversity are most unfortunate and unacceptable. The Indian National Congress completely dissociates itself from these analogies,” Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X.

The BJP also criticized the Congress for Pitroda’s comments, labeling them as “racist and divisive.”

Prior to this incident, Sam Pitroda stirred controversy when he seemed to endorse the implementation of a US-style Inheritance Tax in India.

During an interview with news agency ANI, Sam Pitroda advocated for a policy aimed at wealth redistribution, citing the concept of inheritance tax in certain American states.

“In America, there is an inheritance tax. If one has 100 million USD worth of wealth and when he dies, he can only transfer probably 45 per cent to his children and 55% goes to the government. That’s an interesting law. It says you, in your generation, made wealth and you are leaving now, you must leave your wealth for the public, not all of it, half of it, which to me sounds fair,” Pitroda had said.

</excerpt>

Leo Varadkar, the Indian-origin prime minister of Ireland, has declared his resignation as the leader of the governing Fine Gael party, as reported by Al Jazeera on Wednesday.

Varadkar made an unexpected announcement on Wednesday, declaring his intention to step down as prime minister once a successor is chosen.

“I am resigning the presidency and leadership of Fine Gael and will resign as taoiseach [prime minister] as soon as my successor is able to take up that office,” Varadkar told reporters in Dublin.

He stated that he had urged the party to choose a new leader by April 6 to enable the election of a new prime minister after the Easter vacation of Parliament.

The 45-year-old Varadkar expressed that it was the right time for him to resign from the position.

“My reasons for stepping down now are personal and political, but mainly political,” he said, according to Al Jazeera.

“I have nothing else lined up I have nothing in mind. I have no definite personal or political plans,” he said.

Varadkar, who took office in 2017, became the youngest prime minister and the first openly gay individual to lead the nation, once known for its staunch Catholicism, as reported by Al Jazeera.

Under a rotational agreement established by Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil, the two largest parties in a three-party coalition with the smaller Green Party, Varadkar resumed office as premier in 2022.

When Varadkar assumed office as Ireland’s Prime Minister in 2022, his Indian counterpart, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also extended his congratulations.

Through his official Twitter account, PM Modi expressed his appreciation for the historical ties, shared constitutional values, and multi-faceted cooperation between India and Ireland.

“Congratulations @LeoVaradkar on assuming office as Taoiseach for the second time. Highly value our historical ties, shared constitutional values & multi-faceted cooperation with Ireland. Look forward to working together to realise the full potential of our vibrant economies,” PM Modi had posted on X.

</excerpt>

The Congress party has called for the Chief Minister N Biren Singh to step down due to the deteriorating law and order situation in Manipur. They have also raised concerns about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s lack of response to the situation in the conflict-ridden state.

Jairam Ramesh, addressing the media on Saturday, voiced the Congress party’s demand for the prompt resignation of the Chief Minister of Manipur. He pointed out that even though Home Minister Amit Shah visited the troubled state, it did not yield any noticeable positive outcomes. “The PM is silent for the last sixty days and we are repeatedly demanding that the Prime Minister should break his silence..”, Ramesh, a senior Congress leader, said.
The CM has come under repeated attack from the opposition, particularly the Congress since violence broke out on 3 May in the BJP-ruled state.

Manipur has witnessed ethnic violence for nearly two months. Congress and some groups in the state have demanded Biren Singh’s resignation. Manipur CM N Biren Singh on Friday said he will not resign from his post “at this crucial juncture” amid the growing calls for his resignation. Amit Shah’s four-day visit to the state was followed by an all-party meeting chaired by him in June to restore peace in the state. Ethnic clashes broke out in the State nearly two months ago on 3 May after clashes erupted during a rally organised by the All Tribal Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand for the inclusion of Meiteis in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs).

</excerpt>

Jayant Patil, the Maharashtra president of NCP, has stated that Sharad Pawar continues to stand by his decision to step down as the party’s chief, days after doing so.

“Pawar Saheb has taken the decision. He still stands by his decision for now. However, people from all over Maharashtra and other places are requesting him to take back his decision,” said Patil while addressing a press conference. Sharad Pawar on Tuesday, while announcing his resignation, said that he has decided to step down as the president of the NCP after helming it for 24 years and stated that he will not contest any more elections.

“After this prolonged period of political career from May 1, 1960, to May 1, 2023, it is necessary to take a step back. Hence, I have decided to step down as President of the Nationalist Congress Party,” Pawar said after the launch of the second edition of his autobiography ‘Lok Maze Sangati’.

The state president further said that all sections of the state have requested Sharad Pawar to take back his decision, at least till the next elections.
“I have conveyed the message of party leaders and workers. All sections of Maharashtra have requested Pawar Saheb to take back his decision, atleast for the next elections,” he said.

Patil said, “Several people have joined NCP because Sharad Pawar was the chief of the party. Not just Maharashtra but from other parts of the country people have joined the party just because of him”.

He further also said that he has explained all this to Sharad Pawar and has requested to withdraw his decision. “We have explained all this to Sharad Pawar. Everyone is requesting Pawar Saheb (Sharad Pawar) to withdraw his decision,” added Patil.
Moments after NCP chief Sharad Pawar announced his resignation from the party president’s post on Tuesday, his nephew Ajit Pawar supported the former’s decision saying that the next party chief will work under Sharad Pawar.
</excerpt>

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai remarked on Sunday that former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar’s resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is unfortunate.

“It is unfortunate that he (Jagadish Shettar) is going to resign today. He was a senior leader, former CM, speaker, party president and minister also. However, when a party has decided that some seniors have to give some way to the younger generation,” CM Bommai said. “We even offered him a good position in Delhi and a ticket to his family. However, he rejected the offer and decided to contest on Hubli-Dharwad Central Assembly constituency,” he added.

There will be a small impact on the party and BJP is capable of overcoming it, he added.
Earlier in the day, BJP leader and Former Karnataka CM Jagadish Shettar reached Sirsi where he will tender his resignation as an MLA.
On Saturday, Union Minister and Karnataka election in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan, Pralhad Joshi and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai held a meeting with former state chief minister Jagadish Shettar amid his ultimatum over the allocation of a ticket for the Hubli-Dharwad Central segment.

Shettar, a six-time MLA from the constituency was reportedly advised by the party to stand down and not seek a fresh term as MLA from the Hubli-Dharwad Central segment, following which his followers expressed their anguish against the party’s high command.After being left out from the BJP’s candidate lists, Shettar had issued an ultimatum to the party, saying he will consider his future political course if denied a ticket from his preferred segment.The Karnataka assembly elections will be held in a single phase on May 10, with the counting of votes scheduled on May 13.
