</excerpt>

A heartwarming moment from Chhattisgarh woods went viral in which forest officials freed a baby elephant stuck in a muddy pit, and the calf’s act of gratitude won hearts on the web.

The accident took place in Raigarh district’s Lailunga-Gharghoda forest range, where a group of elephants had assembled to drink and bathe. In the commotion, one calf fell into a deep, muddy slush pit and could not climb out. Its cries woke up local villagers, who immediately alerted the forest department.

After the possible threat of the nearby herd of elephants, forest officials arrived early and initiated the rescue.Ironing out the edges of the pit using the support of a JCB machine and spades provided a gradient that allowed the trapped calf to walk out safely.

The most emotional moment was after the rescue. After being freed, the elephant calf walked towards the JCB and lovingly ran its trunk on it, looking to be doing so as an expression of gratitude. The moment, recorded by ANI in a video, was posted online with the description: “An elephant calf shows gratitude after it was rescued from a mud pit in the forest area by the personnel of the Forest Department in Gharghoda, Raigarh.”

A High-Stakes Rescue in Harsh Terrain

The rescue operation took place in an undisclosed snow-covered region, showcasing the soldiers’ determination and resourcefulness. The young bear was spotted in visible distress, wandering with its head trapped in a tin box. Recognising the urgency of the situation, the soldiers swiftly formulated a strategy to approach and free the animal without causing harm.

Navigating the rugged and icy terrain, the troops carefully assessed the situation upon reaching the cub. Initially, they attempted to remove the canister by hand but soon realised that this approach could inadvertently injure the bear. Demonstrating quick thinking, they employed tools to carefully cut through the metal, eventually freeing Bahadur with precision and care.

Compassionate Care and a Grateful Farewell

Following the rescue, the soldiers provided food to the Bear Cub to help it recover from its ordeal. Bahadur appeared to trust his saviours, staying close to them for several hours after the operation. Eventually, the cub wandered back into the wilderness, leaving behind a poignant moment of connection between humans and wildlife.

Widespread Praise for Soldiers’ Compassion

The viral video of the rescue has earned the soldiers immense praise for their bravery and empathy. Social media users lauded the Indian Army for showcasing a commitment not only to protecting the nation but also to preserving the wildlife in the region.

This touching rescue serves as a reminder of the extraordinary bond between humans and nature and the importance of safeguarding every life, no matter how small.

The Abduction: A Case of Mistaken Wealth

Anuj, a resident of Jaipur’s Brahmpuri area, was abducted on August 18 while walking near Nahargarh hill with his friend, Soni. The kidnappers, believing Anuj to be wealthy due to his appearance, forcibly taped his mouth shut, bound his limbs, and pushed him into a car, leaving Soni injured on the road. When Anuj failed to return home, his family grew worried and filed a missing person report with the police.

Ransom Demand and Police Intervention

The situation escalated when Anuj’s parents received a ransom demand of Rs 20 lakh. Jaipur Police immediately began tracing the ransom caller. The breakthrough came when the kidnappers instructed Anuj’s family to drop the ransom money near Dharampur railway station. Police staked out the location and successfully apprehended an accomplice sent to collect the money.

The Mastermind Behind the Kidnapping

During interrogation, the accomplice revealed Anuj’s location in Solan, leading the police to his rescue. Further investigation identified Virendra Singh, a software engineer, as the mastermind behind the kidnapping plot. Singh had orchestrated the abduction, mistakenly assuming Anuj’s wealth based on his attire.

The successful rescue operation and the viral video have drawn widespread praise for Jaipur Police, highlighting their promptness and efficiency in handling the case. The incident also serves as a reminder of the importance of swift police action in kidnapping cases.

Qaid Farhan Alkadi, a 52-year-old Bedouin Arab from Israel, was rescued by Israeli forces after 326 days in captivity, marking a significant moment in Israel’s ongoing efforts to recover hostages taken by Hamas. Alkadi was found alone in a tunnel in southern Gaza, the first hostage to be recovered alive from underground during the conflict. His rescue has provided a rare moment of relief in Israel, although the plight of many others still in captivity remains a pressing concern.

Recounting the Ordeal

Alkadi, who had been abducted during the brutal Hamas attack on October 7, described the overwhelming emotion he felt when he heard Hebrew outside the door of his underground cell. Speaking from an Israeli hospital where he was reunited with his large family, Alkadi expressed his gratitude and urged Israeli Forces and leaders to continue their efforts to rescue the remaining hostages. His plea underscored the ongoing suffering of those still in captivity and their families.

Military Strategy and Challenges

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant praised the rescue as a result of the army’s “daring and courageous activities” deep within Gaza. The Israeli Forces military operation that led to Alkadi’s recovery was informed by lessons from previous missions, including instances where hostages were tragically mistaken for militants. This operation marked a significant achievement in a conflict where hostage rescue missions have been fraught with danger.

A Family Reunited

Alkadi, a father of 11 and a guard at a factory in Kibbutz Magen, was one of eight Bedouin Arabs abducted by Hamas. His reunion with his family at a hospital in Beersheba was an emotional moment, particularly as he met his infant son for the first time. The joyous occasion was tempered by the knowledge that many families are still waiting for their loved ones to be freed.

Ongoing Hostage Crisis

Israel believes that 108 hostages remain in Gaza, with about one-third feared dead. While many hostages were released during a brief cease-fire in November, the fate of those still held by Hamas remains uncertain. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated the government’s commitment to bringing all hostages home, emphasizing the need for continued military pressure on Hamas alongside diplomatic efforts.

Global and Domestic Reactions

The rescue operation has drawn attention to the broader humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where Israeli airstrikes have resulted in significant casualties and widespread displacement. The ongoing conflict has sparked international efforts, led by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, to negotiate a lasting cease-fire and secure the release of the remaining hostages. However, these talks have yet to yield a breakthrough, leaving the families of those still in captivity in a state of anxious anticipation.

Alkadi’s rescue has provided a moment of hope in a conflict marked by tragedy and loss. As Israel continues its military and diplomatic efforts to recover the remaining hostages, the nation remains united in its determination to bring every captive home, while the international community watches closely, hoping for a resolution to this long and painful crisis.

According to Indo-Tibetan Border Police ITBP Inspector Nanak Chad Sharma, the road caved in due to heavy rain, blocking the rescue team from reaching their destination.

“The point where we have to go is 1-2 km away but since it is raining heavily due to heavy rain, the road has caved in, and it is very difficult for the vehicles to move,” Inspector Nanak Chand Sharma said.

Rescue and relief operations have been going on in flood-affected Samej village near Rampur since the catastrophic cloudburst that took the lives of at least six people on August 1.

According to Himachal Pradesh minister Vikramaditya Singh, the government announced Rs 50,000 as an immediate relief to the affected families.

Speaking about the incident, Vikramaditya Singh said, “A cloudburst occurred 2-3 days back over the Shrikhand mountaintop. Due to this, areas in Rampur and Kullu have faced massive destruction.”

CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also visited the area. He took stock of the situation and briefed the officials. We have started setting up Bailey bridges at various locations.

Earlier, the Indian Army launched extensive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations to aid the affected communities in Himachal Pradesh’s Samej village.

According to the Indian Army, the road to the incident site was blocked due to a land shift approximately 2.5 kilometers from the site, after which troops moved on foot beyond the blockade.

The Turkey-Syria earthquake death toll stands at 9,487 as rescue operations continue in the disaster-hit countries. According to aid organisations and rescuers, the number of fatalities is expected to rise, as many people are still buried beneath the wreckage.

At least 6,957 people have died and more than 38,000 people have been injured in Turkey, according to the country’s environment minister Murat Kurum, who said at a televised briefing on Wednesday. According to CNN, in Syria, at least 2,530 people have died.

Many people attempted to evacuate the destroyed city of Gaziantep, which is situated around 33 kilometres (20 miles) from the epicentre, after a series of earthquakes and aftershocks in Turkey and Syria. Those who could not leave the city on Tuesday sought sanctuary in malls, stadiums, mosques, and community centres because the airport and numerous roads outside the city were blocked.

The search for survivors of the terrible earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria on Monday continues on Wednesday. Foreign aid from multiple countries has started arriving in the region. Rescuers are racing to pull survivors from earthquake rubble before they succumb to cold weather in southern Turkey and war-ravaged northern Syria. As the death toll climbed, despair and anger were growing over the pace of rescue efforts, reported Khaleej Times.
The quake, one of the strongest to hit the region in more than 100 years, struck 23 kilometers (14.2 miles) east of Nurdagi, in Turkey’s Gaziantep province, at a depth of 24.1 kilometers (14.9 miles), the US Geological Survey said.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared a three-month-long state of emergency in 10 provinces as rescuers race against time in Turkey and Syria following Monday’s devastating earthquake.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed grief over the damage to property and loss of lives from the earthquake that jolted the Indonesian island of Java.
PM Modi tweeted, “Saddened by the loss of lives and damage to property from the earthquake in Indonesia. Deepest condolences to the victims and their families. Wish a speedy recovery to the injured. India stands with Indonesia in this hour of grief.” At least 162 people lost their lives in a life taking earthquake that rattled Indonesia’s main island of Java on Monday. According to the reports, the rescuers are searching for survivors trapped under the rubble amid a series of aftershocks.
The 5.6-magnitude earthquake’s epicentre was close to the town of Cianjur in West Java’s mountainous region, roughly 75 kilometres (45 miles) southeast of the nation’s capital, Jakarta. There are about 2.5 million people living in the area.
The tremors, which were detected in Cianjur in West Java at a depth of 10 km, caused several buildings to be demolished. Numerous structures, including a hospital, an Islamic boarding school, and other public buildings, suffered damage.

Although no estimates can be made, but the toll is expected to rise further. According to the reports, the residents of Cianjur live mostly in towns of single and two storey-buildings and in smaller homes in the surrounding countryside.
Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil revealed the latest death toll in the remote region, saying that many of the victims were public school students who had finished their day’s classes and were attending after-hours classes at several Islamic schools when they collapsed.
More than 13,000 individuals, whose homes had suffered severe damage, were brought to evacuation centres, according to Kamil. According to reports, he claimed on his Instagram page that 326 additional people had been hurt.
According to Kamil, “there were so many shattered and collapsed buildings.” “There are locals trapped in remote locations, so we are assuming that the number of injuries and fatalities will increase over time.”
