</excerpt>

Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina announced on Sunday that he will not seek reelection in 2026, just a day after voting against a major budget bill central to President Donald Trump’s legislative agenda. Tillis, 64, cited a lack of space for independent thought in Washington as a key reason for stepping away from public office.

Thom Tillis Decries Loss of Bipartisanship in Washington

“Independent thinkers in Washington have become an endangered species,” Tillis said in a statement, expressing pride in his years of public service and “bipartisan victories” since taking office in the Senate in 2015. He acknowledged that his bipartisan efforts sometimes drew criticism from his own party but maintained he had no regrets.

Trump Attacks Thom Tillis After Budget Bill Rejection

His decision comes amid rising tensions within the Republican Party over the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a sweeping budget and tax legislation that narrowly passed the House last month and is headed for a final Senate vote. Tillis was one of two Republican senators who opposed advancing the bill, drawing sharp rebuke from Trump.

On Sunday, President Trump labeled Tillis “a talker and complainer” and reiterated his intent to support primary challengers against GOP lawmakers who do not align with his agenda. “I’ll be meeting with numerous people who’ve stepped up to run,” he said.

Lara Trump Speculated as Possible Challenger

Speculation has intensified that Lara Trump, the former president’s daughter-in-law and a North Carolina native, may be among those considering a run for the seat.

Tillis said his opposition to the bill stemmed from proposed cuts to Medicaid, which he called “devastating” for North Carolinians. The legislation includes provisions to impose work requirements for benefits and reduce taxes states can levy on medical providers a key funding source for Medicaid. “I did my homework on behalf of North Carolinians,” Tillis said. “It would result in tens of billions of dollars in lost funding for North Carolina.”

Budget Office Warns of Coverage Losses

Republicans backing the bill argue the changes are necessary to curb fraud and ensure long-term sustainability. However, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimated the bill would cause nearly 12 million Americans to lose their health coverage.

Trump has also denounced other dissenters, including Senator Rand Paul and Congressman Thomas Massie, with reports emerging that the White House is scouting challengers for Massie as well.

Republicans are lobbying for a fresh 40% tax bracket for American millionaires. The proposed legislation is geared toward financing tax reform before central Trump-era reductions lapse in 2025.

The move contrasts with the more traditional GOP measures that have previously rejected tax hikes. The quest for the fresh tax bracket stokes debate surrounding the party’s changing position regarding taxation.

New tax bracket for high earners

Republicans are drafting a plan to introduce a new 40% tax bracket for people making more than $1 million a year. House aides, Senate members, and even members of the Trump administration are discussing the plan. If it passes, the tax will be on the richest Americans, a high point in deviation from the traditional Republican opposition to tax hikes.

“I’ll believe it when I see it.” Groundwork Collaborative’s Kitty Richards discusses a House that proposal would set the new rate at 40% for taxpayers earning $1 million or more a year, according to people familiar with the matter https://t.co/YvCYqokXOD pic.twitter.com/CqLF3LwiIh

— Bloomberg TV (@BloombergTV) April 15, 2025

This proposal comes as the deadline for President Trump’s initial round of major tax cuts is closing in. With tax provisions scheduled to end in 2025, Republicans must find a means to pay for new tax deals. Increasing taxes on the wealthy is being considered as an option. Some Republicans feel it will bring much-needed balance between paying for tax overhauls and covering fiscal requirements.

Potential issues for business owners

Business owners, particularly those with LLCs or partnerships, might suffer substantially from the increased 40% rate. They pay taxes in accordance with individual rates, so the new tax rate can damage their profitability. Most Republicans worry that it may inflict damage on small businesses and diminish the opportunities for jobs.

GOP’s Changing Tax Stand

Historically, the GOP has been against tax increases, especially on high-income earners. But this new proposal is a departure from that stance. Some interpret it as a practical response to budgetary pressures, while others interpret it as a political move to rally the party. Either way, it is a dramatic departure from the conventional Republican tax orthodoxy.

The proposal to tax American millionaires at a higher rate is a turning point for GOP tax policy. Although it might help pay for necessary reforms, it might offend some party members. As the debate rages on, Republicans have to choose between reconciling fiscal responsibility with their long-standing opposition to raising taxes.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise made it official that there are no plans to amend the Constitution. “There‘s no proposal to change the Constitution right now,” Scalise declared.

Could Trump Run for a Third Term?

Legally, Trump is not allowed to serve a third term unless the Constitution is altered. Two-thirds support from both the House and Senate would be needed to do this, followed by 38 states’ ratification out of a possible 50 states. This is virtually impossible, considering at least 18 states are under Democratic control and Republicans do not have a supermajority in Congress.

Even with these constitutional obstacles, Trump’s history of defying democratic norms has raised alarms. He never conceded the 2020 election and still insists that he won. This has caused some to worry that he may try to override legal boundaries if re-elected in 2024.

Republican leaders currently hold that Trump’s comments are not serious. But with his control over the party, his words still feed political doubt.

</excerpt>

Republican leaders have praised Usha Vance, the Indian-American wife of vice-presidential nominee JD Vance, as a symbol of generational change and the growing diversity within the party. Usha, a corporate lawyer and daughter of Indian immigrants, represents a shift from the party’s traditional figures, offering a contrast to the previous Republican second lady, Karen Pence.

At 38 years old, Usha is a practicing Hindu and was once a registered Democrat. Her background has made her a compelling figure in the Republican Party, where leaders see her as an embodiment of the evolving demographics of America. “With this ticket, with the show of diversity in what would be the second gentleman and second lady of the United States, I’m extremely proud to be a Hispanic male and a Republican,” said Danny Willis, chair of Delaware Young Republicans.

From California to Politics

Born to Krish and Lakshmi Chilukuri from Andhra Pradesh, Usha grew up in a religious household in California. Her father, Krish, is an engineer and university lecturer, while her mother, Lakshmi, is a biologist and college provost. Usha’s upbringing in a tight-knit Indian-American academic community helped shape her strong sense of leadership. As early as age six, she exhibited leadership qualities, as family friend Vikram Rao recalled: “By age five or six, she had assumed a leadership role. She decided which board games we were going to play and what the rules were going to be.”

Usha’s academic journey saw her attending Yale Law School, where she met JD. Together, they organized discussions on “social decline in white America,” which later became a key theme in JD’s memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. JD, in his book, praised Usha for guiding him through his college years: “She instinctively understood the questions I didn’t even know to ask, and she always encouraged me to seek opportunities that I didn’t know existed.”

Achievements and Public Service

Usha’s impressive career includes editing roles at the Yale Law Journal and involvement in classes offering legal advice on Supreme Court and media freedom issues. She also earned an MPhil in early modern history from the University of Cambridge. After graduation, she clerked for Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and John Roberts. At Munger, Tolles & Olson, a firm known for its progressive stance, Usha worked on high-profile cases for clients like Disney and the University of California.

While she was once a registered Democrat, Usha’s political journey took a turn when she voted in the 2022 Republican primary, supporting her husband’s Senate bid. This shift reflects her evolving political alignment, mirroring JD’s own transformation from Democrat to Republican.

Family Life and Support for JD Vance

JD and Usha married in an interfaith ceremony in 2014. Usha has supported JD throughout his political career, including during his 2020 Senate run and now as his potential vice-presidential partner. Usha’s role as a steady anchor in JD’s life was highlighted when he told the Megyn Kelly Show in 2020: “Usha definitely brings me back to earth a little bit, and if I maybe get a little bit too cocky or a little too proud, I just remind myself that she is way more accomplished than I am.”

Together, they have two sons, Ewan and Vivek, and a daughter, Mirabel. Usha recently announced she would be stepping down from her position at Munger to focus on her family and her husband’s campaign.

Valuable Asset for Republican Party

While some Republicans emphasize the importance of character over ethnicity, Usha’s presence on the campaign trail is seen as a strategic asset for the GOP. “America started as a melting pot and we include everybody,” said Virginia Zemel, 66, from Illinois. “President Trump’s leadership, first lady Melania Trump, and his wonderful family, and now JD Vance as vice president and his wife and family will be a message to bring the strength of our country back.”

Political analysts suggest that Usha’s background could be especially valuable in swing states where Indian Americans have rising influence. John Zogby, a pollster, noted, “Second lady candidates hardly ever figure into the mix. However, Indian Americans are rising in influence in the United States. They’re heavily Democratic – or at least they have been – in their voting patterns so if there’s an opportunity to chip away at that and even get a small percentage that could be vital and especially in those swing states that everybody talks about.”

Conclusion: The Vance’s Influence

Usha Vance’s story is one of cultural diversity, academic achievement, and political shift. As she takes on a more prominent role in JD’s vice-presidential campaign, her story will continue to resonate with voters who value both change and tradition in American politics. Her background and leadership qualities could prove instrumental in reshaping the Republican Party’s future, both symbolically and strategically.

</excerpt>

In a fervent display of support, Trump enthusiasts have adopted a new rallying cry for the 2024 elections: “Abki Baar 400 Par.” Inspired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s successful 2014 campaign slogan, this bold ambition aims for a decisive win, securing 400 seats for the Republicans in the House of Representatives.

Trumpists Rally for a Resounding Victory

Trump supporters, often referred to as Trumpists, have set their sights high for the 2024 elections. Drawing inspiration from Narendra Modi’s iconic 2014 campaign slogan, “Abki Baar Modi Sarkar,” they are now chanting “Abki Baar 400 Par,” signaling their goal to win 400 seats in the House of Representatives.

Echoes of Modi’s Campaign

Modi’s 2014 campaign, which led to a landslide victory in India, has become a motivational template for Trumpists. They believe that the slogan’s success can be replicated in the US, galvanizing support and driving a wave of enthusiasm across the Republican base.

Aiming for Republican Dominance

Trumpists are working tirelessly to achieve this ambitious target. They are mobilizing grassroots efforts, organizing rallies, and leveraging social media to spread their message. Their aim is to not only secure a majority but to achieve a level of dominance that will solidify Republican control in the House.

Challenges Ahead

Despite the enthusiasm, the goal of securing 400 seats is a formidable challenge. Political analysts caution that the polarized nature of US politics, along with demographic shifts and regional dynamics, could complicate efforts to achieve such a sweeping victory.

A Message of Unification

Trumpists are framing their campaign as a unification effort, seeking to bring together various factions of the Republican Party and attract independents and undecided voters. They argue that a strong, unified front is essential to counter the Democratic agenda and implement their vision for America.

Conclusion

As the 2024 elections approach, the slogan “Abki Baar 400 Par” encapsulates the determination and optimism of Trump supporters. Whether this ambitious goal will be realized remains to be seen, but the energy and commitment of the Trumpist base are undeniable. They are poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming elections, drawing from international inspiration to shape their political strategy.

</excerpt>

Donald Trump has chosen JD Vance, the junior senator from Ohio and author of the bestselling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy”, as his running mate in the presidential race. This announcement, made on the first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, highlights Vance’s remarkable political transformation over recent years.

Once a vocal critic of Trump, Vance had previously referred to him as “America’s Hitler” and “a total fraud.” However, Vance’s perspective shifted as he pursued a Senate seat in 2022, ultimately gaining Trump’s endorsement in a competitive Republican primary. Trump’s support was pivotal for Vance’s campaign, with Trump acknowledging Vance’s previous criticisms but still endorsing him.

Vance rose to prominence in 2016 with the publication of “Hillbilly Elegy”, which detailed his upbringing in southwestern Ohio and his journey to Yale Law School. The memoir, which was later adapted into a 2020 film starring Glenn Close and Amy Adams, provided insights into the lives of Americans affected by poverty and drug addiction, resonating with many who felt marginalized in the political landscape.

Following Trump’s 2016 victory, Vance became a notable conservative voice, often explaining Trump’s political appeal to puzzled audiences. Initially seen as an anti-Trump Republican, Vance’s stance shifted significantly when he entered the Senate race. He campaigned on hard-right proposals, including completing the US-Mexico border wall, and was accused of endorsing the “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory, which he suggested Democrats were using to change the electorate through immigration.

Vance’s campaign tactics proved successful, and he defeated Democrat Tim Ryan by six points in the 2022 election. Since joining Congress, Vance has been a staunch supporter of Trump. Following an assassination attempt on Trump, Vance accused Joe Biden of inciting the attack, stating that Biden’s rhetoric contributed directly to the incident.

As Trump’s running mate, Vance will have a broader platform to advocate for his and Trump’s political views, further solidifying his role within the Republican Party.

</excerpt>

At the end of May, Donald Trump was convicted in a business fraud/campaign finance violation case, with the judge in New York setting the sentencing date for July 11, just five days before the Republican National Convention. As Trump faced additional legal battles in Washington DC, Florida, and Georgia, his political journey took a significant turn with several key developments.

In late June, Trump had a successful debate against Joe Biden, which added pressure on Biden from his party to consider stepping down from the race. Trump’s fortunes improved further in early July with several legal victories, including a major Supreme Court ruling that expanded presidential immunity to cover all “official acts,” and the judge in New York agreeing to postpone his sentencing. Trials in other cases were also deferred until after the election.

The most dramatic turn of events was the assassination attempt on Trump, which he survived, galvanizing his support base and solidifying his position as the frontrunner for the upcoming elections. This atmosphere of celebration and determination was evident as Trump arrived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for the Republican National Convention, which kicked off at the Fiserv Forum, the home of the Milwaukee Bucks, with over 2,400 delegates and an expected 50,000 attendees.

During the convention, Trump was set to be nominated as the Republican candidate. Key Republican figures, including primary rivals like Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, and Vivek Ramaswamy, were scheduled to speak throughout the week. Trump was also expected to announce his vice presidential pick and attempt to project unity to capitalize on the current national mood.

The convention’s themes for each day reflected Trump’s agenda:

– Monday: “Make America Wealthy Once Again,” focusing on economic issues and attacking the Biden administration’s handling of inflation.

– Tuesday: “Make America Safe Once Again,” highlighting immigration policies and proposing extensive deportation measures.

– Wednesday: “Make America Strong Once Again,” criticizing Biden’s foreign policy and portraying Trump as a strong leader capable of preventing another world war.

– Thursday: “Make America Great Once Again,” where Trump would deliver his acceptance speech, attacking Biden’s presidency and presenting himself as the savior of America.

The assassination attempt provided an opportunity for Trump to reach out to swing voters with a message of unity. In an interview, Trump emphasized the need to bring the country together and hinted at a revised convention speech focused on unity.

The convention was also eagerly awaiting Trump’s vice presidential pick. Contenders included JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Doug Burgum, and Tim Scott, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Regardless of the final choice, the convention underscored Trump’s dominance in reshaping the Republican Party and solidifying his position as the party’s candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

</excerpt>

With just a few months remaining for the much-vaunted US Presidential Elections 2024, speculations are on the rise on who will the Republican candidate Donald Trump choose as a running mate. While the former President is scheduled to reveal his pick at the upcoming Republican National Convention, sources have told CNN who the possible contenders could be. Here are his possible choices.

Doug Burgum

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum has reportedly received vice-presidential vetting materials from the Trump campaign. Despite this, Burgum has downplayed the speculation, stating that the focus should be on the issues rather than who might be the VP. He believes Trump can win the election independently.

Marco Rubio

Florida Senator Marco Rubio is considered a strong contender for Trump’s running mate. Six individuals familiar with the search have highlighted Rubio’s potential, noting that he checks nearly every box despite both being from Florida. A veteran Florida GOP operative confirmed that Rubio is indeed “in play.”

JD Vance

Ohio Senator JD Vance, who secured his congressional seat with Trump’s endorsement in 2022, is a vocal supporter of the former president. Vance’s alignment with Trump’s policies and his outspoken support in Congress make him a significant candidate for the VP slot.

Tim Scott

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, who recently suspended his presidential campaign, has endorsed Trump, stating the need for strong leadership to secure the southern border. Trump has previously mentioned Scott as a potential VP candidate.

Elise Stefanik

House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, once a skeptic of Trump, has become one of his strongest supporters in Congress. Trump has sought opinions from donors and allies about Stefanik as a possible running mate, and she has expressed her willingness to serve in a future Trump administration.

Ben Carson

Former HUD Secretary Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, has a history of defending Trump. Although Carson turned down an offer to be Health and human services secretary, he headed HUD and has been involved in the vice-presidential vetting process. Despite differing views on abortion, Carson remains a candidate.

Byron Donalds

Florida Representative Byron Donalds, a loyal Trump supporter, endorsed Trump over Governor Ron DeSantis in the Republican primary. Donalds has expressed confidence in his ability to assume the presidency if necessary, making him a noteworthy contender.

Nikki Haley

Former South Carolina Governor and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, who stayed in the GOP presidential race longer than other opponents, has been critical of Trump but eventually pledged to vote for him. Trump expressed disappointment in her but hasn’t ruled out considering her as a running mate.

Tom Cotton

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, an Afghanistan and Iraq War veteran, explored a presidential run but opted to stay in the Senate. Cotton has indicated that he would consider serving if offered a role but confirmed no discussions with Trump about the VP position.

Tulsi Gabbard

Former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard, who left the Democratic Party in 2022, has shown appreciation for Trump in recent months. Despite her past as a Democratic presidential candidate, her independent stance and recent support for Trump make her an intriguing potential VP pick.

Speaking outside the courtroom, Trump criticized the proceedings and reiterated his belief that the final judgment would be made in the upcoming election.

Guilty on All Counts

A New York jury found Trump guilty of falsifying documents to conceal a payment to silence a porn star before the 2016 election. Trump faced 34 felony counts, all of which he was found guilty of. He condemned the trial as “disgraceful” and insisted that the public would see through what he described as a politically motivated prosecution.

Campaign Video Release

He pledged to dismantle what he termed the “deep state,” expel war mongers, and drive out globalists, communists, Marxists, and fascists from the government. Trump also vowed to challenge the “fake news media” and liberate America from these perceived threats.

Supporters’ Reactions

Trump supporters across the country expressed shock and anger at the conviction. Outside the New York courtroom, one emotional supporter claimed that Trump had just secured his re-election. Ukrainian-American journalist Oliya Scootercaster reported the man’s remarks, highlighting the deep loyalty Trump inspires among his base.

Biden Campaign’s Response

The Biden campaign swiftly responded to the verdict, emphasizing that “no one is above the law.” Spokesman Michael Tyler called for donations and warned against a second Trump term, predicting it would bring chaos, threaten freedoms, and incite political violence. Tyler stressed that the only way to prevent Trump from returning to the Oval Office was through the ballot box.

Republican Lawmakers Condemn Verdict

Republican lawmakers reacted with fury to Trump’s conviction, questioning the legitimacy of the trial. House Speaker Mike Johnson called it a “shameful day in American history” and described the charges as “purely political.” Ohio Senator J.D. Vance labeled the verdict a “disgrace to the judicial system,” while Louisiana Representative Steve Scalise criticized the decision as a defeat for those who believe in blind justice. Many Republicans echoed Trump’s assertion that the trial was rigged and politically motivated.

Vivek Ramaswamy’s Criticism

Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy took to X (formerly Twitter) to denounce the trial, calling it a “sham” and criticizing the judge, prosecutors, and star witness. He condemned the trial as an example of a biased judicial process and suggested that the jury’s instructions were unfairly lenient towards conviction.

The only thing more 3rd-world than the NY courtroom was the sham trial that played out inside: second-rate judge, third-rate prosecutors, fourth-rate “star” witness. The judge specifically instructed the jury that they *didn’t have to agree on the crime* to convict. Shameful.

— Vivek Ramaswamy (@VivekGRamaswamy) May 31, 2024

Trump’s Next Steps

Trump is expected to appeal the verdict swiftly. As the political and legal battles continue, both his supporters and opponents brace for further developments in this unprecedented case.

</excerpt>

The upcoming November election is expected to be highly competitive, as indicated by the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll showing President Joe Biden slightly leading with 40% support among registered voters. Both Biden and former President Donald Trump will compete in what is shaping up to be a closely contested and divisive U.S. presidential election 2024 on November 5th. Additionally, there are several third-party candidates in the running.

Here Is a List Of Candidates Contesting In The US Presidential Election 2024

Republican Party

Former President Donald Trump, who served from 2017 to 2021, has secured enough delegates to clinch the Republican nomination, setting up the first presidential rematch in nearly 70 years. He has emphasized legal challenges to bolster his base and framed his campaign as a response to perceived political foes. Trump has labeled supporters involved in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack as “hostages” and has employed increasingly dire rhetoric in his campaigning, hinting at potential unrest around the November 5 election.

Facing 88 charges across four criminal cases related to the 2020 election, classified document retention post-office, and a hush money payment to a porn star, Trump denies any wrongdoing. He views these charges as a Democratic ploy to hinder his chances of winning, with some cases potentially going to trial before the election. Trump has shown a willingness to challenge legal decisions, including those involving the U.S. Supreme Court.

Trump’s campaign promises include seeking retribution against opponents if re-elected, though he has tempered such statements with claims of jest. He also aims to reshape the federal workforce and has expressed doubts about accepting election results if unfavorable. Trump’s policies on immigration, abortion, healthcare, and climate change are focal points of his campaign, alongside his foreign policy stance regarding NATO, Russia, Ukraine, and Israel.

Democratic Party

President Joe Biden, seeking re-election, has framed his candidacy as a defense of American values and democracy against perceived threats posed by Trump. With a slight lead in voter support according to recent polls, Biden, at 81, must convince voters of his fitness for office compared to his 77-year-old opponent, Trump.

Biden’s campaign focuses on economic recovery, immigration reform, and international relations, especially in response to conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. While criticized by some for his handling of these issues, Biden aims to garner support through his policies and diplomatic efforts.

Independent Candidates in the 2024 US Presidential Election

1. Marianne Williamson

Marianne Williamson, a best-selling author and self-help guru, reentered the 2024 presidential race with a focus on “justice and love” after initially suspending her campaign. Williamson, aged 71, positions herself against what she perceives as Donald Trump’s “dark and authoritarian vision.” She previously ran as a Democrat in the 2020 primary but withdrew before any votes were cast.

Williamson’s campaign emphasizes progressive values, social justice, and holistic approaches to governance. Her platform includes policies related to healthcare, education, environmental sustainability, and income inequality. While her chances of winning the presidency may be slim, her presence in the race adds diversity to the political discourse and gives voice to certain segments of the electorate seeking alternative perspectives.

2. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., aged 70, is running as an independent after initially challenging Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination. He is known for his activism against vaccines and his environmental advocacy. Kennedy, the son of the late U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, has faced criticism from his own family, who have publicly supported Biden.

Kennedy’s platform includes positions on various issues, such as supporting Israel while questioning certain ceasefire agreements, opposing Trump’s border wall, and advocating for changes in climate policy. He has fluctuated in polls, garnering 8% support among registered voters in a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll. While not considered a front-runner, Kennedy’s candidacy adds complexity to the political landscape, especially concerning issues like healthcare, national security, and environmental protection.

3. Cornel West

Cornel West, a political activist, philosopher, and academic, is running a third-party bid for president, likely to appeal to progressive, Democratic-leaning voters. West, aged 70, initially ran as a Green Party candidate but transitioned to an independent candidacy, prioritizing policy outcomes over partisan politics.

West’s platform centers on ending poverty, ensuring housing for all, and addressing systemic injustices. He advocates for bold social and economic reforms, emphasizing grassroots movements and community empowerment. While West’s chances of winning the presidency may be remote, his candidacy reflects a desire for substantive change and challenges mainstream political narratives.

4. Jill Stein

Jill Stein, a physician who previously ran under the Green Party in 2016, is making another independent bid in 2024. Stein, aged 73, criticizes both Democrats and Republicans for failing to address key issues such as climate change, economic inequality, and healthcare access.

Stein’s campaign focuses on progressive policies, including environmental protection, healthcare reform, and economic justice. She brings attention to issues often overlooked by major parties, advocating for systemic changes and challenging the status quo. While her candidacy may not have significant electoral impact, Stein’s presence highlights alternative viewpoints and encourages discussions on critical policy areas.

</excerpt>

Nikki Haley, an Indian-American Republican presidential candidate, has stated that if elected, her administration will enhance alliances with India, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines, in addition to NATO.
Haley, 52, the former US Ambassador to the United Nations, stated that if former US President Donald Trump is re-elected, a threat to the NATO alliance is one of her main concerns.

“I’m worried about a lot of things if Trump is re-elected. That is one of them,” she told ABC News, adding that NATO is a 75-year success story.

Haley is the sole remaining challenger against Trump in the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential primary race.

According to Haley, a two-term former South Carolina governor, Russia has never invaded a NATO territory because the organization has historically frightened Russia.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is an intergovernmental military alliance comprised of 31 member states, 29 European and two North American.

Even China is terrified by this cooperation. As a result, Haley believes that NATO must remain strong.

Haley was replying to a question on Trump’s words in South Carolina a week earlier, when he said he would welcome Russia to do “whatever the hell they want” to any NATO member countries that fails to fulfill defense expenditure criteria.

It is critical to expand one’s social circle. This is not the moment to end an alliance. This is not the time to stand with a thug while ignoring friends that supported America following the September 11 attacks, Haley said.

“We have to make sure that we stand firm. Because when we stand firm with our friends, our enemies stay on their heels. When we start to show any weakening of those alliances, that’s when our enemies move. That’s why we’re seeing China on the march. That’s why we’re seeing Iran want to build a nuclear bomb. That’s why we’re seeing Russia start to move towards Poland and the Baltics,” she said.

“And that’s what I promise I will do as president, is we not only will strengthen NATO, we will strengthen alliances with India, Australia, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines. We will add to the fold. This is about America having more friends, not less friends,” Haley said in response to a question.

Haley described Trump’s NATO comments as “bone-chilling” and motivating for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“And all he did in that moment was, he sided with a guy who kills his political opponents, he sided with a thug who arrests American journalists and holds them hostage,” she said.

Haley also accused incumbent President Joe Biden, a Democrat, of failing on several fronts.

“That has emboldened our enemies. That’s why you see them moving. It happened after the fall of Afghanistan. It is continuing to happen. Then they go and they see the other opponent running for – for president and they see that he doesn’t worry about Putin invading Ukraine. So, what does Putin do? He goes and now he’s starting to put soldiers around the Baltics. He’s moving in for the next era,” she said.

“Let’s remind the American people that Putin said once he takes Ukraine, Poland and the Baltics are next. Now he is putting soldiers around those countries, just like he did Ukraine. And if that happens, those are NATO countries. That immediately puts America at war. That is what we are trying to avoid. And that’s why this aid package is so important,” she said.

</excerpt>

Chinese hackers, who are suspected of forging Microsoft customer identities to access the emails of State Department employees, have also hacked into the personal and campaign emails of Grand Old Party (GOP) member Don Bacon from Nebraska on the House Armed Services Committee.

On Tuesday, Bacon took to his social media handle and wrote, “I thank the FBI for notifying me that the CCP hacked into my personal and campaign emails from May 15th to June 16th of this year. The CCP hackers utilized a vulnerability in the Microsoft software, and this was not due to user error.”

He added, “Thus, there were other victims in this cyber operation. The Communist government in China are not our friends and are very active in conducting cyber espionage. I’ll work overtime to ensure Taiwan gets every dollar of the USD 19B in weapons backlog they’ve ordered, and more.”

Earlier, the US government told that the Chinese hackers hacked into many accounts including Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, unnamed State Department employees, and a human rights advocate.

After the hacking issue was exposed to the public, several members of Congress demanded the federal agencies to explain how they are planning to handle similar attacks in the future and that Microsoft should make logs more widely available, which it agreed to do earlier.
