Ravindra Jadeja Shares Light Moment with Umpire Gaffaney During Tense Test Match

July 6, 2025, 11:58 am

India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja added a bit of humour to a tense day of Test cricket at Edgbaston during the fourth day of the ongoing India vs England match. Known for his lively presence on the field, Jadeja was caught on camera having a fun exchange with on-field umpire Chris Gaffaney.

As the New Zealand umpire bent down to adjust the bails, Jadeja walked up to him and said something that made them both laugh. In a playful gesture, Jadeja gently poked Gaffaney, and both could be seen smiling. Their light-hearted chat brought a brief moment of joy in the otherwise intense game.

Stump microphones picked up Jadeja saying, “Huh! I’m cheating?” Though the exact context wasn’t clear, it was obvious that he said it jokingly. Gaffaney appeared to be in on the fun too.

Jadeja and Gaffaney Share Another Fun Memory

This isn’t the first time Jadeja and Gaffaney shared a humorous moment in the series. During the Headingley Test earlier, India had requested a ball change when the old one went out of shape. Once the umpires agreed, Jadeja walked over to Gaffaney to celebrate the decision with a smile, which the umpire returned in good spirit.

India Gains Upper Hand After Early Wickets

The fun moment between Jadeja and Gaffaney happened just after Akash Deep bowled out Ben Duckett, leaving England struggling at 30/2 in their fourth innings. This early breakthrough gave India a solid advantage as they aim to level the series.

Jadeja Responds to Stokes’ Accusations

Besides light-hearted moments, Jadeja was also at the centre of a minor controversy earlier in the match. England captain Ben Stokes accused him of running on the pitch’s danger area while batting—something that can damage the surface for bowlers. Stokes took the issue to the umpires multiple times.

Jadeja addressed the issue after play. He said, “He feels that I am making it rough for myself. In fact, he was making it rougher by using fast bowlers. I didn’t have to make it rough.” He also added, “He was repeatedly telling the umpire that I was running on the wicket. But that was not my intention. I ran here and there a few times. But that was in his mind.”

Final Day Set for a Thrilling Finish

As the match moves into day five, India finds itself in a strong position. England is chasing a massive target of 608 and is already three wickets down for just 72 runs. Although England has shown resilience before, India will aim to stay sharp and finish the job to level the series in Birmingham.

MS Dhoni Recreates Jadeja’s Sword Celebration, Fans Go Wild

April 19, 2025, 2:57 pm

MS Dhoni made the internet glow once again this time, but not with his bat, rather with a light-hearted move that captured the hearts of the people. At a recent public function, Dhoni was spotted mimicking Ravindra Jadeja’s signature sword celebration, a gesture that has become identified with the flashy all-rounder over the years.

Photos from the incident went viral on all social media sites soon, with MS Dhoni spinning an imaginary bat in Jadeja’s signature fashion. The moment, whilst lighthearted, brought forth an avalanche of nostalgia and respect from fans who still hold dear the unbreakable connection between the two CSK sensations.

A Tribute from ‘Thala’

Known for his stoic presence and understated demeanor, MS Dhoni rarely indulges in animated antics off the field. This display, therefore, was a surprise to many and one that carried a deeper emotional undertone. Ravindra Jadeja has been one of Dhoni’s closest allies on the field, playing several crucial roles in CSK’s IPL campaigns, including delivering a memorable last-ball win in the IPL 2023 final.

The sword dance traditionally done by Jadeja on crossing a milestone or for a game-changing performance has been a fan favorite for years. Dhoni emulated the same as a light-hearted tribute to his teammate and a reflection of the esprit de corps that has defined the CSK dressing room for years.

Internet Melts in Response to Word Celebration by MS Dhoni

Within hours of the photos going public, fan reactions poured onto platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. Many fans referred to it as “the most wholesome cricket moment of the year,” and others welcomed the “Thala-Thalapathy” bonding a play on the affectionate Tamil names for MS Dhoni and filmstar Vijay, representing leadership and charm.

Memes, montages, and fan edits followed swiftly, many combining Dhoni’s sword twirl with iconic Jadeja moments, while others called for a special celebration between the two in one of the upcoming IPL games.

CSK Brotherhood on Display Between MS Dhoni and Jadeja

MS Dhoni and Jadeja’s camaraderie has been the most discussed pair in Indian cricket over the last few years. Although there were fleeting rumors of discord earlier during CSK’s captaincy overhaul, the pair have repeatedly put critics to rest with gestures of mutual respect.

As the season of IPL 2025 goes on, fans will be expecting more such endearing moments both on and off the pitch from a team that has never been merely about cricket, but also about legacy, loyalty, and passion for the game.

Virat Kohli Drops Hint About 2027 World Cup, Fans Await Confirmation

April 1, 2025, 3:18 pm

Virat Kohli 2027 World Cup is making headlines as the cricket icon dropped a big hint regarding his next move. With India’s record Champions Trophy victory, rumors of his inclusion in the 2027 ODI World Cup have been increasing. The event is scheduled to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in a period of two and a half years.

Kohli, who is 36 years old, was instrumental in India’s recent ICC victory yet again, and he showed how valuable he can be in tough situations. Nevertheless, his retirement from T20Is following the victory at the 2024 World Cup left fans pondering his fate in ODIs as well. It is rumored by many whether he will carry on playing until the Virat Kohli 2027 World Cup campaign.

Veteran Players Like Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja Face Similar Questions

Veteran players like Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja are also facing similar questions as India begins planning for the next big ICC event. Kohli remains the only active player from India’s 2011 World Cup-winning squad. If he continues, he could make history as the first Indian cricketer to win two ODI World Cups.

‘Next Big Step’ Hint by Virat Kohli

At a recent event, Virat Kohli was asked about his future in international cricket. His response nearly gave away that he is not thinking of retiring from ODIs anytime soon.

Question: Seeing In The Present, Any Hints About The Next Big Step?

— virat_kohli_18_club (@KohliSensation) April 1, 2025

“The next big step? Maybe try to win the next World Cup,” Kohli said, which prompted huge applause from the audience. His statement was taken as a clear sign that he is planning for the future Virat Kohli 2027 World Cup challenge.

After moving away from T20Is, Virat Kohli will not feature in the 2026 T20 World Cup, which India and Sri Lanka will co-host. Nevertheless, he is an integral part of India’s ODI and Test teams. His next big ICC tournament may be the 2027 World Cup if he stays in good form and condition. He may also feature in the 2027 WTC final if India makes it there.

Unmatched Legacy of Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is universally accepted as the best ODI batsman of all time. He is the leading century-maker (51) in ODI cricket. The Indian legend is the third highest run-scorer in the format with 14,181 runs. He has won several ICC awards, including two Champions Trophies, throughout his glorious career.

During the RCB Innovation Lab conclave, Virat Kohli dispelled his future uncertainties and assured supporters of his game passion.

“Don’t get nervous. I’m not making any announcements. Everything is fine. I still love playing the game,” he said.

“It’s about joy, competition, and love for cricket. As long as I enjoy it, I will continue. I’m not chasing achievements,” Kohli added.

With Virat Kohli 2027 World Cup talk intensifying, his dedication to ODI cricket does not seem to waver. Fans have been waiting with bated breath for his ultimate word on whether he will captain India’s quest for the 2027 World Cup.

Once Banned, Now a Star: Ravindra Jadeja Joins CSK in Iconic ‘Pushpa’ Style

March 11, 2025, 3:19 pm

India’s talismanic all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja returned to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, which is scheduled to start on March 22. Ravindra Jadeja, who was one of the heroes of India’s Champions Trophy 2025 title win, came back in style, replicating the memorable ‘Pushpa’ film gesture in a video posted by CSK on X (formerly Twitter).

Glamorous Entry of Ravindra Jadeja in ‘Pushpa’ Manner

In the popular video, Ravindra Jadeja replicated the hit gesture of Allu Arjun’s role in Pushpa: The Rise, sliding his hand along his chin from right to left before hitting his back with the same hand in a slanted shoulder stance. The gesture delighted fans and added to CSK’s pre-season excitement.

Ravindra Jadeja was also the key to India’s Champions Trophy 2025 victory, hitting the winning four in the final against New Zealand on March 9. During the tournament, he grabbed five wickets in five games, with the best of 2/40 and an economy rate of 4.35. With the bat, Jadeja scored 27 runs in three innings, going unbeaten in two of them.

Legacy of Ravindra Jadeja with CSK

Known as ‘Rockstar’ by then Australian spin icon Shane Warne in the first season of the IPL in 2008, Ravindra Jadeja has been a fulcrum performer for CSK since his joining the side in 2012. His all-round skills have been the cornerstones of the team’s victory in all these years.

Inspirational IPL Career Statistics

Jadeja has played 240 IPL games, scoring 2,959 runs at a batting average of 27 and a strike rate of nearly 130. He has three half-centuries in his name, with a top score of 62*. A gun fielder, Jadeja has taken 103 catches in the league. As a bowler, he has taken 160 wickets, with best figures of 5/16.

Although the IPL banned Jadeja in 2010 for violating trade rules, he has emerged as one of India’s top all-rounders. His comeback to CSK for IPL 2025 has generated feverish enthusiasm among supporters, with hopes running high for yet another phenomenal season.

Is Ravindra Jadeja Bidding Farewell to ODIs? Kohli’s Emotional Hug Sparks Rumors

March 9, 2025, 8:06 pm

Speculation is growing about if the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final was the last ODI outing for some of India’s largest cricketing stars, most notably Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja.

Although there has been no formal announcement, supporters think Ravindra Jadeja could have played his last ODI after Virat Kohli was spotted hugging his longtime friend after Jadeja’s scintillating 10-over spell in the final against New Zealand on Sunday in Dubai.

Jadeja’s Pivotal Spell in the Last

Ravindra Jadeja pitched in an economic and accurate spell, giving away only 30 runs in his share of 10 overs. He also had a vital contribution to end a crucial partnership by sending Tom Latham back.

Fans linked Kohli’s hug with Ravindra Jadeja to previous instances where he bid farewell to players stepping away from ODI cricket. He had shared an embrace with Steven Smith after Australia’s semifinal exit, following Smith’s departure from the format. Similarly, Kohli was seen embracing R Ashwin before the latter announced his retirement from international cricket during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

— Ravi Ranjan?? (@RaviRanjanIn) March 9, 2025

India Poised for Champions Trophy Glory

If this last ODI does signal Jadeja’s ODI farewell, he will finish his legendary career with 231 wickets from 204 matches. Already having retired from T20I cricket following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup a year ago, Jadeja seems to be taking it slow from the international stage after over 15 years of tireless commitment.

Attention also remains on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s future in ODIs. With the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching, it remains to be seen whether these stalwarts will continue in the format or pave the way for the next generation.

Indian Spinners Shine as New Zealand Post 251

In the decider, Jadeja supported impressive efforts by India’s spinners duo of Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav, who both took two wickets apiece. Their efforts did a good job in strangulating New Zealand’s run rate. But Michael Bracewell’s unbeaten half-century with a lot of dash helped the BlackCaps put up a fighting score of 251.

With India well-placed to win the Champions Trophy title, Jadeja’s potential ODI farewell could turn out to be one of the competition’s standout moments.

Ravindra Jadeja’s Sword Celebration Steals Spotlight After Gabba Test Fifty

December 17, 2024, 2:24 pm

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja once again rescued India from a tricky situation, scoring a resilient fifty on Day 4 of the third Test against Australia in Brisbane. Jadeja appeared calm and composed against Australia’s top-tier bowling attack, securing his third half-century in Test cricket on Australian soil.

After reaching his fifty in the second session on December 17, Jadeja celebrated with his signature sword gesture. He appeared to be thrilled at having repaid the team’s trust, for this was his first big innings of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Former head coach Ravi Shastri, speaking on air, advised Jadeja to take care of his left wrist jokingly, as the all-rounder was expected to play a key role with the ball in the remaining matches of the series.

Jadeja had been left out of India’s XI for the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with Washington Sundar and R Ashwin selected as the primary spinners in Perth and Adelaide.

However, Jadeja stepped up at 74 for 5 in Brisbane after Rohit Sharma had been dismissed early for 10. He added a crucial 67 runs to the board with KL Rahul who top-scored with 84 before being dismissed by a beautiful slip catch from Steve Smith.

Cheteshwar Pujara, speaking to Star Sports, said Jadeja improved considerably, especially his sweep shots. “That’s something that he has worked on.”. Look at that sweep shot. He doesn’t normally play sweeps that much. His batting has improved a lot in the last 3-5 years. He has been batting well across formats. Probably, he is one of the best batters of spin bowling. The way he has negotiated Nathan Lyon. He has got his bat in front of his pad. He has been decisive with his footwork,” Pujara said.

“You can bank on him as a batsman,” he said.

Jadeja added to his reputation as the dependable batting all-rounder who had scored 984 runs at an average of 30 in 22 Tests across the SENA countries (South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and England).

Siraj’s Aggression and Jadeja’s Frustration Steal the Spotlight

December 15, 2024, 12:01 pm

Mohammed Siraj’s aggression became the center of attention due to his on-field actions on Day 2 of the third Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. While one moment contributed to India securing a wicket, another incident created tension with Ravindra Jadeja.

Siraj’s Throw Sparks Conflict with Jadeja

After lunch, a dramatic incident unfolded. Travis Head pushed a ball toward the offside and went for a quick single. In response, Siraj quickly charged, collected the ball, and threw it forcefully toward the non-striker’s end. Unfortunately, the throw missed its mark and flew over the batter. Jadeja, trying to save the situation, leaped to stop the ball but hurt his fingers in the process.

As a result, Jadeja expressed his frustration and scolded Siraj while shaking his injured hand. Although Jadeja avoided a serious injury, his irritation was clear.

Commentator Mark Nicholas humorously captured the moment. He remarked, “There is a bit of civil war on the field as Siraj’s enthusiasm gets the better of him. He flung the ball so hard that it could have gone for four byes, but Jadeja gave him a right look. He must have said, ‘You almost broke my finger, pal. Take it easy.’”

Travis Head Dominates Indian Bowlers

Meanwhile, Travis Head continued his impressive form and dominated the Indian attack. This century was his third in four Tests against India. His aggressive batting firmly shifted momentum in Australia’s favor.

Earlier in the day, India started strong. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed both Australian openers, and Nitish Reddy took another wicket to pile on the pressure. However, in the afternoon session, Head and Steve Smith turned the game around.

Head reached his ninth career Test century in just 115 balls, showcasing his dominance with 13 boundaries. At the same time, Smith played a solid supporting role, scoring a composed half-century. Together, they built an unbeaten 159-run partnership for the fourth wicket, frustrating the Indian bowlers.

India Struggles

Despite their early success, the Indian bowlers seemed to run out of ideas as the session progressed. Head’s aggressive play and Smith’s steady approach left them with little room to regain control.

Overall, the day showcased both Head’s brilliance with the bat and the tension within the Indian camp. With Australia taking a commanding position, the remainder of the match promises even more drama and excitement.

June 5, 2024, 5:02 pm

The strength and conditioning coach of Team India Soham Desai said the players have eased their routines after reaching New York.

“We came in the day before yesterday and we just eased into our routines here, the players are just getting used to the time zone. Today we are having our first ground session…,” Soham said.

Meanwhile, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah said, “We have not yet played cricket, came here for a team activity today. Hopefully, it will be good. The weather is really good, so we are looking forward to it.”

The much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for June 9. Subsequently, India will face tournament co-hosts USA on June 12, followed by Canada on June 15, concluding their Group A fixtures.

IPL 2024: Jadeja’s ‘Obstructing the Field’ Dismissal Explained

May 12, 2024, 11:26 pm

IPL 2024: Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja faced an unusual dismissal during the IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals at MA Chidambaram Stadium. He was ruled out by the third umpire for ‘obstructing the field.’ Despite this, CSK comfortably won the match with 10 balls to spare, thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s crucial innings.

What Happened in Detail?

Jadeja, struggling to score, dabbed a delivery down to the third man and attempted a quick double. However, he was left stranded halfway down the pitch as Gaikwad declined the run. In the ensuing chaos, Jadeja obstructed the throw to the wicketkeeper, resulting in his dismissal.

What is ‘Obstructing the Field’ Dismissal in Cricket?

The ‘obstructing the field’ dismissal occurs when a batter deliberately hinders the fielding team’s attempt without their consent. In Jadeja’s case, he impeded a potential run-out by blocking the throw. Intent is crucial in this type of dismissal, as seen in the 2019 World Cup final incident involving Ben Stokes.

What Does the Law State?

According to Law 37.1 of the MCC, a batter is out obstructing the field if they willfully obstruct or distract the fielding side by word or action while the ball is in play. This rule applies even on a no ball. Additionally, a batter can be dismissed under this law if they use the bat or any part of their person to return the ball to a fielder without the fielder’s consent.

IPL 2024: CSK’s Ravindra Jadeja Achieves Rare All-Round Record Against PBKS

May 5, 2024, 11:07 pm

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and India’s versatile player Ravindra Jadeja equaled the record held by Australian cricket legend Shane Watson and India’s World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh for achieving a combination of scoring 40-plus runs and taking three wickets in Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. This impressive feat was accomplished by Jadeja during CSK’s recent match against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

In this game, Jadeja showcased his all-around prowess by scoring 43 runs off 26 balls, including three fours and two sixes, at a striking rate of 165.38. Additionally, he excelled with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets for 20 runs, dismissing Prabhsimran Singh, Sam Curran, and Ashutosh Sharma.

Jadeja initially achieved this milestone against Deccan Chargers in IPL 2012 with figures of 48 runs and 5/16, and later against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2021 with an unbeaten 62 runs and 3/13.

Similarly, Watson and Yuvraj have also achieved this feat three times each.

Regarding the match itself, PBKS won the toss and chose to field. Despite CSK losing wickets at regular intervals, notable contributions from Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Daryl Mitchell propelled them to a competitive total of 167/9 in 20 overs. PBKS bowlers Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel impressed with three wickets each.

During the chase, PBKS encountered early setbacks but recovered with a partnership between Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh. However, a strong bowling performance from Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, and Simarjeet Singh led to a remarkable comeback by CSK, restricting PBKS to 139/9 in their allotted overs.

Jadeja’s outstanding performance earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his three-wicket haul and valuable contribution with the bat.

With this victory, CSK climbed to the third position in the points table with six wins and five losses, accumulating 12 points. Meanwhile, PBKS languished in the eighth position with four wins, seven losses, and eight points to their name.

Resuming the day at 302 for 7, Ollie Robinson went on to register his first Test half-century in 81 balls. Robinson and Joe Root’s partnership surpassed 100 runs for the seventh wicket.

India desperately required a breakthrough, as England appeared to be on course for a big first innings total. Ravindra Jadeja struck for the hosts, breaking a 102-run stand by removing Robinson for 58 after being caught behind by wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.

Jadeja struck again in the same over, dismissing Shoaib Bashir for a duck after being caught by Rajat Patidar. England went on to score 350 runs in their first innings.

The left-arm spinner then wrapped up the English team, dismissing James Anderson leg before wicket for no score and finishing with four wickets. England scored 353 in the first innings.

Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma stepped out to bat but failed to get off to a good start, as Anderson removed the Indian skipper for two.

Shubman Gill walked out to bat at 4/1 and, along with Jaiswal, ensured that there were no additional blows, with India adding 34 runs with the loss of one wicket in 10 overs at lunch on day two, behind England by 319.

Brief score: England 353/10. (Joe Root 122*, Ollie Robinson 58; Ravindra Jadeja 4/67, Akash Deep 3/83) vs India 34/1 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 27, Shubman Gill 4; James Anderson 1/15).

Ravindra Jadeja beats KL Rahul to win ‘Fielder of the Match’ award

October 20, 2023, 1:18 pm

India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja beat wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav to win the fielder of the match award for his amazing diving catch at backward point against Bangladesh during the ICC World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released a fun behind-the-scenes video in which Team India is seen having fun in the dressing room while the fielding coach is announcing the medal winner.

The teammates surrounded Jadeja. Rahul, who won the award in the previous match, did the honours and handed the medal over to Jadeja, who placed it around the neck of India’s fielding coach.
So far in the event, the winners of the medal have been proclaimed on television screens inside the dressing room. But Dilip took it a step further on Thursday when the best fielder of the match was declared on the stadium’s large screen, shocking the entire Indian squad.
While giving the medal, the Indian fielding coach praised Rahul and Jadeja’s excellent dives while fielding. Dilip later added that the team focuses on saving runs and not just one catch but overall performance, for which he chose Jadeja for the best fielding award.

Star India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced his comeback from injury with a bang after he scalped seven wickets in the 2nd innings of the ongoing Ranji Trophy fixture against Tamil Nadu on Thursday.

The left-arm spinner ran through the Tamil Nadu batting order in their 2nd innings, scalping 7 wickets while conceding just 53 runs in the 17.1 overs that he bowled. Jadeja only took one wicket in the first innings and was under pressure to do well to be considered for the playing eleven in the upcoming BorderGavaskar series against Australia. Jadeja claimed the wickets of Sai Sudharsan, Narayan Jagadeesan, M Shahrukh Khan, Baba Aparajith, Baba Indrajith, Pradosh Ranjan Paul, Vijay Shankar, Ajith Ram and Manimaran Siddharth.

The star all-rounder, through his spell, demonstrated that he was more than ready and in the groove to be picked in the playing eleven against the Baggy Greens in the BorderGavaskar Trophy.

The national selectors had made his selection to the playing eleven subject to his fitness and physical condition in domestic cricket.

Jadeja had to leave Asia Cup last September to undergo surgery on his right knee. The injury caused him to miss the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, where India bowed out in the semis after a humiliating ten-wicket loss to England.

The selectors named him in the 17-man Test squad for the first half of the fourmatch Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which starts in Nagpur on 9 February.

While the all-rounder has been named in the 17-member Test squad for the home series against Australia that begins next month, his inclusion is subject to his fitness ahead of the series.

MELBOURNE: In a series of tweets, Sachin Tendulkar, 47, praised Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy and the efforts of the bowlers and debutant Shubman Gill. “Two good days for India in the 2nd Test. @Jaspritbumrah93, @ashwinravi99 & Mohammed Siraj bowled really well and continued to keep the pressure on to restrict Australia to a low total. Well done by the stand-in captain Ajinkya, who made some real smart bowling changes coupled…with good field placements,” Tendulkar tweeted. “@RealShubmanGill got off to a good start on debut with some good shots and looked comfortable at the crease. @ajinkyarahane88 and @imjadeja have stitched a very crucial partnership which may just take the game away from Australia. Last but not least, fantastic knock by @ajinkyarahane88 who not only looked solid in his defence but was also looking to play attacking shots. He kept the momentum going really well,” said Tendulkar.
