</excerpt>

India and France have come to an agreement to create the “Yuga Yugeen Bharat National Museum,” which Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has referred to as “a project of great national importance. ” This noteworthy museum aims to become the largest in the world, and its story will encompass 5,000 years of history. This grand project will be located on Raisina Hill near the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Covering an area of 1. 17 lakh square meters and featuring 950 rooms in a basement and three levels, the museum will be built within the historic North and South Block buildings that are home to various ministries, including foreign, home, defense, and finance.

Jaishankar underscored the global collaboration driving the project, asserting that “what is being seen today is a very important expression of international cooperation, one that is built on exchanges of best practices, on sharing of experiences. ” He added, “When the South Block and North Block become the kind of museum that is envisaged, I think we will veritably be seeing an inspiration for the remaking of Bharat. ”

Constructed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker from 1911 to 1931, the North and South Block buildings possess historical significance comparable to that of France’s Louvre. Similar to the Louvre, which once belonged to a magnificent palace and housed the French finance ministry, the Indian museum initiative highlights the adaptive reuse of historic structures.

Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced that the mapping and blueprinting for the North Block has already been finalized and is currently underway for the South Block. The Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum is poised to bring India’s vibrant heritage to life, merging it with modern storytelling as envisioned.

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has showcased the features of the project through an illustrative video on YouTube. The precise timeline for its completion and inauguration has yet to be revealed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to preside over the 9th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog on Saturday, which will take place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, as announced by the government think tank on Friday.

The theme for this year’s meeting is ‘Viksit Bharat@2047,’ with the primary objective of transforming India into a developed nation.

During the session, participants will review the Approach Paper for the Vision Document related to Viksit Bharat @2047. The discussions will emphasize promoting collaborative governance and enhancing cooperation between the central and state governments. This collaboration aims to improve the quality of life for both rural and urban communities by refining the delivery mechanisms for government services.

The meeting will also focus on the states’ contributions towards realizing the Viksit Bharat @2047 goal. India is progressing towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, with its GDP projected to exceed USD 5 trillion, and with aspirations to reach a USD 30 trillion economy by 2047. Achieving this vision will necessitate joint efforts from both central and state governments, and the 9th Governing Council Meeting is designed to establish a strategic plan for this goal.

The governing council will also address the recommendations from the 3rd National Conference of Chief Secretaries, which took place from December 27-29, 2023. The conference included special sessions on critical topics such as cybersecurity, the aspirational districts and blocks program, the role of states, and the application of AI in governance.

The Chief Secretaries Conference, which preceded the 9th Governing Council Meeting, involved comprehensive discussions on these key themes to prepare for the upcoming session. The Prime Minister, as the Chairperson of NITI Aayog, will be joined by Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors of States and Union Territories, Union Ministers as ex-officio members and special invitees, and the Vice Chairman and Members of NITI Aayog.

</excerpt>

President Droupadi Murmu has renamed two significant halls at Rashtrapati Bhavan: ‘Durbar Hall’ is now ‘Ganatantra Mandap,’ and ‘Ashok Hall’ is now ‘Ashok Mandap.’ This change aims to better reflect Indian cultural values and ethos within the historic building.

According to a release from Rashtrapati Bhavan, “Rashtrapati Bhavan, the office and the residence of the President of India, is a symbol of the nation, and an invaluable heritage of the people. Continuous efforts are being made to make it more accessible to people. There has been a consistent endeavour to make the ambience of the Rashtrapati Bhavan reflective of Indian cultural values and ethos.”

The release continued, “Accordingly, President Droupadi Murmu is pleased to rename two of the important halls of Rashtrapati Bhavan – namely, ‘Durbar Hall’ and ‘Ashok Hall’ – as ‘Ganatantra Mandap’ and ‘Ashok Mandap’ respectively.”

This renaming aligns with the BJP government’s broader initiative to eliminate colonial influences from the country’s public spaces.

The statement explained that the term ‘Durbar’ pertains to the courts of Indian rulers and the British Raj, and has become obsolete since India became a republic. “‘Durbar Hall’ is the venue of important ceremonies and celebrations such as the presentation of National Awards. The term ‘Durbar’ refers to courts and assemblies of Indian rulers and the British. It lost relevance after India became a Republic, that is, ‘Ganatantra’. The concept of ‘Ganatantra’ is deeply rooted in Indian society since ancient times, making ‘Ganatantra Mandap’ an apt name for the venue,” it said.

Regarding ‘Ashok Hall,’ which was formerly a ballroom, the statement highlighted that the name change removes colonial influences and aligns with Indian cultural values. “‘Ashok Hall’ was originally a ballroom. The word ‘Ashok’ connotes someone who is “free from all sufferings” or is “bereft of any sorrow”. Also, ‘Ashoka’ refers to Emperor Ashok, a symbol of unity and peaceful co-existence. The National Emblem of the Republic of India is the lion capital of Ashok from Sarnath. The word also refers to the Ashok tree which has deep significance in Indian religious traditions as well as arts and culture. Renaming ‘Ashok Hall’ as ‘Ashok Mandap’ brings uniformity in language and removes the traces of anglicisation while upholding the key values associated with the word ‘Ashok’,” the statement added.

Addressing the speculation, a senior official from the Delhi forest and wildlife department clarified to TOI, “The animal in the video is not a leopard. The animal looks like a dog or cat,” putting an end to the mystery surrounding the creature’s identity.

Interestingly, the President’s Estate, spanning 330 acres, is renowned for its rich biodiversity, boasting diverse flora and fauna. The estate features open spaces, forests, parks, gardens, fruit trees, and water bodies, creating a thriving ecosystem within its boundaries.

A notable highlight is the 75-acre nature trail aimed at promoting nature conservation awareness. This trail showcases both managed and natural ecosystems, connecting Rashtrapati Bhavan’s gardens through well-laid paths. Among its attractions are a pond ecosystem, butterfly corner, mango orchard, peacock point, and a forest area. Remarkably, the trail is home to 136 plant species and 84 animal species, including frogs, lizards, and snakes, highlighting the estate’s vibrant wildlife.

While the viral video sparked curiosity and speculation, it also shed light on the ecological richness of the President’s Estate, serving as a reminder of the importance of preserving India’s natural heritage.

Just hours before the swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a crucial meeting with NDA leaders, many of whom are anticipated to be appointed as ministers in the new government. Seated in the front row were BJP veterans and leaders from NDA allies.

Key Attendees: The meeting saw the attendance of prominent figures from Modi’s previous cabinet, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, Dr S. Jaishankar, Dharmendra Pradhan, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Piyush Goyal. Other notable leaders present included Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Jyotiraditya Scindia, JDU’s Rajiv Ranjan Singh, HAM’s Jitan Ram Manjhi, RLD’s Jayant Chaudhary, JDS’s HD Kumaraswamy, LJP’s Chirag Paswan, and Jitin Prasada.

Cabinet Composition: The BJP, having fallen below the majority mark in the Lok Sabha, now relies on its NDA allies for a stable majority. As a result, the new cabinet is expected to accommodate several allies. Sources indicate that N. Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP and Nitish Kumar’s JDU are likely to secure at least one cabinet berth and one Minister of State post each.

Portfolios and Key Figures: Outgoing Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Roads and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari are expected to retain their portfolios. Nirmala Sitharaman and Dr. S. Jaishankar are also likely to continue in their respective roles as Finance Minister and External Affairs Minister.

Potential New Ministers: Among the allies, Chirag Paswan, HD Kumaraswamy, Anupriya Patel, Jayant Chaudhary, and Jitan Ram Manjhi are likely candidates for ministerial positions. Buldhana MP Prataprao Jadhav from Shiv Sena and Rajya Sabha MP Ramdas Athawale are also expected to join the cabinet. BJP leaders Pralhad Joshi, Manohar Lal Khattar, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Jyotiraditya Scindia may also secure ministerial roles. Additionally, Sarbananda Sonowal, Kiren Rijiju, G. Kishan Reddy, Shobha Karandlaje, BL Verma, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Nityanand Rai, and Giriraj Singh are in consideration.

NDA Dynamics: With the BJP’s tally at 240 seats, 32 short of the majority mark, leaders like Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar have gained significant influence. BJP sources have indicated that they will retain the four key portfolios—Home, Defence, Finance, and External Affairs.

TDP and JDU Demands: TDP, with 16 seats, and JDU, with 12 seats, are reportedly seeking prominent central roles. Former JDU chief Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Ram Nath Thakur are potential ministerial candidates. TDP leaders Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani and Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu are also expected to receive ministerial posts, as announced by party leader Jay Galla on X.

Prime Minister Modi is set to take the oath of office at 7:15 pm today, marking the commencement of his third term. The final announcement of his new team will reveal how the demands of the allies have been addressed and the overall composition of the new cabinet.
