DJ Fatally Shot in Ranchi Bar; Suspect Apprehended in Gaya

A shocking incident has surfaced from Jharkhand, where a DJ was fatally shot over a minor issue in Ranchi. A video of the horrifying incident has circulated widely on social media.

In the viral clip, a man with a gun shot the DJ, later identified as Sandeep, also known as Sandy, during a small argument at a bar in Ranchi. The video shows DJ Sandy taking a few steps before falling to the ground after being shot.

On the night of May 26, a 30-year-old disc jockey (DJ) was shot dead at a bar in Ranchi, Jharkhand, by a man carrying what appeared to be a sophisticated rifle.

The police arrested the accused, identified as Abhishek Singh, from Gaya in Bihar on Monday. The victim, Sandip Pramanik, a resident of West Bengal, worked at the bar. CCTV footage of the incident shows a man, with his face covered, shooting the DJ with a rifle from point-blank range.

According to Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Chandan Kumar Sinha, “The accused has been arrested within 15 hours of the incident. The suspect, Abhishek Singh alias Vicky, a resident of Ranchi, has been apprehended. We have also formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the case. The police are currently questioning three individuals in connection with the incident.”

Sinha mentioned that following the incident, the police launched an investigation. During the investigation, it was discovered that Singh had fled to Gaya, leading to his arrest by the Bihar police in the Alipur area.

Sinha explained that the accused was intoxicated at the time of the crime. “He appears alone in the video footage. It remains to be determined whether he acted alone or if others were involved,” added the SSP.

Further explaining, Sinha said, “The incident occurred around midnight. When the police arrived at the scene, there were no witnesses, making it a challenging case. However, we formed seven teams, and with technical assistance and initial inquiries, we began to unravel the details of the incident.”

According to a statement from the Gaya police, “Following a request from the Ranchi SSP for assistance in apprehending the suspect, Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashish Bharti instructed all sub-divisional police officers and station heads to conduct special vehicle checks throughout the district. Consequently, a special team was formed to arrest the accused.”

Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandan Kumar Sinha said, “A clash happened between customers and bouncers at the bar. It might be possible that one of those customers carried out this incident. We are searching for the culprits. The investigation is underway.”

Providing further details on the incident, Hatia Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pramod Mishra noted that the accused has been identified and has a previous criminal record.

“We are searching for him. He has been to jail earlier as well. We are investigating the matter. He is a suspicious person. The deceased is a resident of Chhapra,” Mishra said.

Bar operator Vishal Singh recounted the events leading up to the incident.

“Yesterday at around 10:30 pm, a scuffle broke out between two groups. We immediately informed the police and one person was arrested. After shutting the bar, we went back home but one of our staff, DJ Sandeep, stayed behind. Later, I received a call that he had been shot. We hope that the accused will be arrested soon,” Singh explained.

Police officials, including the SSP, SP, City DSP, and officers in charge of Chutia and Kotwali police stations, have launched an extensive investigation. They are conducting CCTV surveillance and questioning other employees of the bar to gather more information about the incident.

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren’s wife, Kalpana Soren, cast her vote in Ranchi during the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections on Saturday. She voted at the designated polling booth at St. Francis School in Ranchi, Jharkhand’s capital city.

After casting her vote, she urged voters to come out and exercise their franchise to protect democracy and the Constitution. “Today, I exercised my right to vote by participating in this great festival of elections for the massive victory of justice over injustice. An appeal to all of you is to reach your polling booth in large numbers and exercise your right to vote to protect democracy and the Constitution. If Hemant is there then there is courage. Jharkhand will not bow down, INDIA will not stop,” she said.

In a previous appeal to voters, Kalpana Soren mentioned the winds of change sweeping the country. “The winds of change that are blowing in the country have not happened due to the hard work of any leader or political party but due to the people. The people who are troubled by injustice, lies, exploitation and oppression are voting for their inclusive, bright and secure future. Today is the sixth phase of the total 7 phases of elections being held in the country. Today in Jharkhand too, the people of Giridih, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and Ranchi Lok Sabha constituencies will vote for the massive victory of justice over injustice and to protect their rights,” she said.

Notably, the JMM is part of the INDIA bloc and is contesting elections in alliance with the Congress in Jharkhand and Odisha. From the Ranchi Lok Sabha constituency, the JMM-Congress-led bloc has fielded Yashaswini Sahay, while the BJP-led NDA has fielded Sanjay Seth, who is seeking a second term.

Voting for the sixth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections began on Saturday morning across 58 parliamentary constituencies spread over six states and two Union Territories (UTs), amid tight security and arrangements. The voting started at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm, with those in line by the closing time still allowed to vote.

The sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls includes eight seats in Bihar, all 10 seats in Haryana, one seat in Jammu and Kashmir, four in Jharkhand, all seven seats in Delhi, six in Odisha, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, and eight in West Bengal. A total of 889 candidates are in the fray.

According to Election Commission data, Jharkhand recorded a 27.80 percent voter turnout by 11 am. The four seats in Jharkhand undergoing elections in the sixth phase are Ranchi, Dhanbad, Giridih, and Jamshedpur. In 2019, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 12 seats in Jharkhand, with the BJP alone winning 11. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress secured one seat each.

The general elections are being held in seven phases, with the counting scheduled for June 4.

Bird Flu Outbreak: Two doctors, six others quarantined in Ranchi

In Ranchi, amid an outbreak of bird flu, two doctors and six staff members from the Regional Poultry Farm in Hotwar have been placed in quarantine at the JSIA building in Ranchi, officials have stated.

The JSIA government building has been repurposed into a bird flu ward, with a team of medical experts from Ranchi collecting samples from the infected individuals.

Following the confirmation of the bird flu outbreak, the Ministry of Animal Husbandry has implemented a series of measures, including a complete ban on the sale and purchase of all birds, as well as conducting surveys around the epicentre.

Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Sinha stated, “Bird Flu has been confirmed in Ranchi. As soon as bird flu was confirmed, a series of actions take place under the guidelines mentioned in the Ministry of Animal Husbandry. The first action is a total ban on the sale and purchase of all birds in one kilometre radius of the epicentre.”

Furthermore, he added, “A survey of all the birds is also conducted in the region. A machinery of the district has also been deployed for the containment of the bird flu. The District Animal Husbandry Office, Municipal Corporation, Police and Magistrate have formed a rapid response team.”

In addition to advisories issued in newspapers, the administration will ensure the application of all kinds of precautionary measures in the region for the containment of Bird Flu,” Sinha said.

The Animal Husbandry Directorate, Ranchi, has formed a Rapid Response Team (RRT) for the culling of poultry and cleaning and disinfection of infected areas after H5N1 Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) was detected in the poultry area, Hotwa. The RRT team will work to disinfect the area within one kilometre of the epicentre in the poultry area, Hotwa.

Dr. Santosh Kumar, a meat technologist at the Regional Poultry Farm, stated, “In the one km radius, all chickens and eggs will be disposed of. We will tell all farmers and shopkeepers not to bring any outside poultry. Until we do not receive a negative report, we will ask them not to farm chicken.”

On the orders of the District Collector, about 1745 chickens, 450 ducks and 1697 eggs have been disposed off.

H5N1 stands for Highly Pathogenic Asian Avian Influenza (H5N1) Virus. Avian influenza is a strain of the influenza virus that primarily infects birds, but can also infect humans. This type of flu is most often contracted by contact with sick birds. It can also be passed from person to person. Almost all cases of H5N1 infection in people have been associated with close contact with infected live or dead birds or H5N1-contaminated environments.

School bus overturns in Ranchi, several students injured

Resuming the day at 302 for 7, Ollie Robinson went on to register his first Test half-century in 81 balls. Robinson and Joe Root’s partnership surpassed 100 runs for the seventh wicket.

India desperately required a breakthrough, as England appeared to be on course for a big first innings total. Ravindra Jadeja struck for the hosts, breaking a 102-run stand by removing Robinson for 58 after being caught behind by wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.

Jadeja struck again in the same over, dismissing Shoaib Bashir for a duck after being caught by Rajat Patidar. England went on to score 350 runs in their first innings.

‘What is there to say?’ CM Champai Soren remarks

A day after winning the floor test, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren arrived to Ranchi’s State Assembly for the final day of the special session.
“What is there to say?” “What can I say about those who have no issue (to raise)?” the Chief Minister said to reporters as he approached the Assembly.
Chief Minister Champai Soren won the Trust Vote on Monday with a 47:29 margin.
In the 81-member assembly, the midway point for a majority is 41. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, with 29 seats, and its ally Congress, with 17, were optimistic of comfortably passing the trust vote.

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who was arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement in connection with the alleged land scam, was also present in the Assembly for the floor test. On February 2, the court remanded Soren to ED custody for five days.
A special court in Ranchi granted Soren permission to vote in the Trust Vote. Participating in the debate, Hemant Soren stated that his arrest is just one example of the various forms of persecution that tribals and Dalits experience in society.

The Chief Minister launched the debate on the trust resolution in the 81-member Assembly, claiming that the Centre is exploiting the agencies.
“The central government’s leader abused agencies. In 2019, Hemant received the mandate. “Such a Chief Minister is arrested in a land scam case,” the Chief Minister stated, defending his predecessor.
He stated that throughout Jharkhand’s history, anytime tribals try to expand their ability, attempts are made to restrict their leadership.

“Today the whole country is seeing how injustice is being done to Hemant Soren. If you go to any village, you will find Hemant Soren’s schemes in every house,” he added.

IndiGo flight to Ranchi diverted to Nagpur after medical emergency on board

An onboard medical emergency caused an Indigo flight from Mumbai to Ranchi to be diverted to Nagpur, according to officials. Officials claim that a sick passenger on the flight caused the crew to divert the plane.

The IndiGo flight — 6E 5093 — touched down at Nagpur.

Officials said that the passenger was offloaded and taken to a nearby hospital for additional medical care; they also said that he did not survive.

“Unfortunately, the passenger did not survive. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones,” the carrier said in a statement.

Jharkhand :Opposition BJP holds protest against Soren govt

On Tuesday in Ranchi, the opposition BJP organised a demonstration against the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government.

In an apparent demonstration against the administration, more than 100 BJP members were seen walking to the state secretariat. When the protesting employees attempted to “gherao” (around) the secretariat, police used water cannons to disperse them.When some protesters attempted to scale police barricades while others began throwing rocks at the police, the police also used a lathi-charge.

“The Soren government has failed on every front. Promises made before the elections have not fulfilled. The law and order situation is worsening day by day. This government is only resorting to appeasement. Hence, this protest march and gherao of the secretariat was called to protest the ways of functioning this government,” one of the protestors said.
Over 20 protestors were detained during the protests, informed the police.

Ranchi: ED attaches properties worth Rs 82 crore of suspended IAS officer

The immovable properties worth Rs 82.77 crore of Pooja Singhal, a suspended IAS officer have been provisionally attached by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi.

The IAS officer was arrested in connection with some other dubious financial transactions and a suspected theft of MGNREGA funding in the Khunti region. Between February 16, 2009, and July 19, 2010, Singhal served as the deputy commissioner (DC) of Khunti.

The ED said the properties include one super speciality hospital ‘Pulse Super Speciality Hospital’, a diagnostics centre ‘Pulse Diagnostic and Imagining Centre’ and two land parcels situated in Ranchi.

The ED had initiated a money-laundering investigation against Singhal on the basis of multiple FIRs registered by the Jharkhand Police and Vigilance Bureau Jharkhand, the probe agency said.

“Investigation revealed that Proceeds of Crime generated from the MNREGA Scam in form of commission was deposited in different bank accounts belonging to Pooja Singhal & her relatives. The said POC was mixed and layered with the other unaccounted money generated by Pooja Singhal, by misusing her official position.,” the ED said in a statement.

“Initially POC was generated from MNREGA scam only, which was subsequently intermixed with other unaccounted fund generated from the corrupt practices of Pooja Singhal and these funds were deployed as capital/investment & further funds were generated from these funds, both as legitimate profit as well as by further infusion of POC. By this modus-operandai, Pooja Singhal amassed huge wealth disproportionate to her known source of income and source of funds invested in these immovable properties were primarily from the unaccounted cash profits generated from these POC and therefore termed as Proceeds of Crime,” the agency added.

Singhal and the other two arrested individuals in this case are all currently being held in judicial custody. The special PMLA Court has taken note of all three prosecution complaints that have been filed in this case.

Three women killed in Ranchi over suspicions of witchcraft

Three women were killed in the most recent instance in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, on suspicion of participating in black magic rituals. The incident was reported on Sunday from Ranadih village in the Ranchi district’s Sonahatu police station.

“We have recovered two bodies, while the search is going on for the third one. The police are yet to establish the identity of the deceased person. We have not received any complaints so far,” Sonahatu police station in-charge Mukesh Kumar Hembram said.

Hembram added that, at first glance, it appeared that members of the community were responsible for the murder. However, it is currently unknown who the attackers are.

On Monday night, a woman was killed on suspicion of practising witchcraft in another incident that was reported from the Andhra Pradesh district. The murder happened in the district of Alluri Sitharama Raju. The deceased was identified as Kundla Somalamma, 56.

The accused, Srinivasa Reddy, killed the woman because he believed the deceased had committed witchcraft that caused his mother’s death.

However, the mother of the accused passed away from illness after falling from a tree and injuring her back.

“The mother of the accused Srinivasa suffered injuries when she fell from a tree. Her backbone was severely injured in the accident,” said police.

Dumka Killing: Deceased Ankita cremated; Section 144 imposed

Ankita Singh, who succumbed to injuries after being set ablaze by a boy for rejecting his proposal was cremated on Monday.

Earlier on August 23, the accused Shahrukh was arrested. People of Dumka protested after the Class 12 girl was set ablaze and died on 28 August. Section 144 has been imposed in Dumka.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren said, “Such people should not be forgiven, they should be given the strictest of punishments. Laws should be brought in to further strengthen the existing laws for such incidents.”

“A lot of evil acts are being seen in society. This incident is heart-wrenching and the law is taking its course. The accused has been arrested. It is our effort to see that he is punished at the earliest,” Soren added.

Former Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das said, “It is very shameful for Jahrakhand the way that boy entered the girl’s house, poured petrol, and set her ablaze. There have been thousands of crimes against women in Jharkhand after Hemant Soren became Chief Minister. There are love jihad cases also among the tribal population. The people from Bangladesh are entering and marrying innocent tribal girls and usurping their land.”

Questioning the state administration for the death of the girl union minister Arjun Munda said, “Who is responsible for such incidents? Were appropriate measures taken to save the victim or not? If the victim dies, how will the guilty be punished? The state government should answer on all these subjects and to maintain the confidence of the public, the government should give a statement that what is the law and order situation for these incidents which are happening in Jharkhand.”

Dumka’s SP Ambar Lakda said, “The accused Shahrukh has been arrested. We’ll apply at fast track court for a fast trial. People are cooperating with us. We appeal to people to maintain peace. The situation is under control and Sec 144 has been imposed.”

Reacting to the matter, Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta said, “The state government is serious regarding the murder of a girl in Dumka. Stringent action will be taken against perpetrators. We will ensure a fast trial. We have talked to DC in this regard,” Gupta said.

Moreover, on the Dumka incident, NCW takes cognizance and said, “Since arrest already made we asked Jharkhand DGP for action taken report. There’s a mindset that you forcefully ask a woman to marry you&if she refuses, set her ablaze-it’s pathetic. There should be conversation on this,” said the NCW chief on the death of a girl after being set ablaze in Dumka.

However, on 23 August accused Shahrukh poured petrol on Ankita and set her ablaze when she was asleep. Ankita Kumari was a student of class 12 and allegedly turned down his proposal. Kumari was first admitted to Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital in Dumka in critical condition and later she was referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Ranchi.

Birsa Munda Airport receives hoax bomb threat

Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi received a call from an unknown person regarding a bomb threat on Thursday.

After receiving the hoax bomb threat the airport officials swung into action and conducted a thorough security check and nothing was found.

“A call from an unknown caller regarding a bomb threat received at Ranchi airport. A thorough security check was done and nothing suspicious was found. The call is declared a hoax,” KL Agarwal, Director, Ranchi Airport said to ANI.

However, in the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) survey Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport (BMA) along with Udaipur airport was adjudged as the best by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
