Inaugurated by PM Modi, the 2.07-km Pamban Bridge promises enhanced connectivity and engineering excellence.
</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the much-awaited new Pamban Bridge in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, April 6, coinciding with Ram Navami. This engineering marvel is India’s first vertical lift railway sea bridge, built to boost connectivity across the Palk Strait and replace the aging structure built in 1914.

Stretching 2.07 kilometers, the newly constructed bridge connects Rameswaram Island to mainland India and is set to revolutionize rail and maritime transport in the region. The older Pamban Bridge, a cantilever structure with a Scherzer Rolling Lift span, had become outdated due to increasing traffic and environmental wear.

Sanctioned in 2019, the new bridge was developed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) under the Ministry of Railways. Designed to withstand the harsh marine environment, it incorporates advanced construction techniques and materials including stainless steel reinforcements and high-grade protective paints.

Key Features & Innovations

One of the standout aspects of the bridge is its 72.5-meter navigational span, which can be raised by 17 meters to allow larger vessels to pass. The structure is also 3 meters taller than its predecessor, improving sea and rail connectivity simultaneously.

Another notable advancement is its future-ready substructure, designed to accommodate two railway tracks, although currently, it supports a single line. The bridge’s Auto Launching Method and hydraulic jacking system were pivotal in placing the lift span across the piers with precision, especially given the environmental challenges like cyclones and turbulent waters.

Modern Engineering Meets Tradition

“This bridge symbolizes the union of tradition and innovation,” officials stated, noting how the project not only boosts infrastructure but also preserves the cultural and spiritual importance of the area. Tourists and pilgrims heading to Rameswaram will now enjoy faster, safer, and more efficient travel.

A Symbol of Infrastructure Progress

Built to last over 100 years, the new Pamban Bridge is being hailed as a symbol of India’s growing engineering capabilities, drawing comparisons to global landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge and Tower Bridge. It reflects the country’s commitment to overcoming logistical, geographical, and environmental hurdles through innovation and determination.

With the inauguration just around the corner, the Pamban Bridge stands ready to usher in a new era of connectivity, technology, and national pride.

</excerpt>

On Ram Navami, the city of Lord Ram, Ayodha, witnessed the confluence between science, technology, and faith. The first Surya Tilak was performed on April 17, 2024, marking a historic day in Ayodhya and across the country. The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), an autonomous body under the Department of Science & Technology, was the main stakeholder in the Surya Tilak Project, a wonderful event, i.e., the sun’s blessings on Ram Lalla’s forehead on this auspicious day.

The IIA’s engagement in this initiative exemplified how scientific knowledge may be used to protect and enhance our cultural heritage. As the Ram Mandir rises, the Surya Tilak will stand as a symbol of the eternal connection between the earthly and the heavenly, a tribute to Lord Ram’s timeless heritage.

The position of the sun shifts each year as the English calendar date of the Ram Navami changes according to the lunar calendar. For this unique problem, the expertise of the IIA was required. The IIA team methodically computed the calendar days of Ram Navami over a 19-year cycle, keeping note of the sun’s changing location in the sky. The detailed grasp of celestial movements laid the blueprint for the Surya Tilak Project. They built an optomechanical system to direct sunlight from the temple’s top to the forehead of Lord Ram Lalla’s idol. This system requires the placement of the lens and mirrors, carefully calibrated to ensure that sunlight falls on the idol.

As the temple is still in the construction phase, IIA experts make their design in a way that can fit the existing structure and the Surya to be implemented. But the team’s work did not end there. They precisely built an opto-mechanical system to direct sunlight from the temple’s top to the forehead of Sri Ram Lalla’s idol. This sophisticated system required the perfect placement of mirrors and lenses, and after that, the Idol was lit up for 3 minutes, around 12.

</excerpt>

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday for the clashes that occurred during Ram Navami celebrations in Murshidabad. He held the TMC responsible for the attack on Ram Navami processions, alleging a disregard for the ‘Sanatan’ faith.

Adityanath highlighted the peaceful conduct of Ram Navami celebrations and processions in all BJP-ruled states, contrasting them with the violence witnessed in West Bengal under the TMC government. He emphasized the importance of the rule of law in ensuring good governance and credited the BJP, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, for enhancing security both nationally and within BJP-governed states.

Regarding Mamata Banerjee’s accusation that the BJP orchestrated the clashes in Murshidabad, Adityanath responded, “Ram Navami celebrations and processions were conducted safely in all the states ruled by the BJP, but due to the TMC government of West Bengal, Ram Navami processions were attacked there and efforts were made to hurt ‘Sanatan’ faith.”

Adityanath also expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects in Rajasthan, stating, “Rajasthan will contribute to the victory of BJP with a huge majority by accepting Modi ji’s model of nationalism, development, security and good governance.” He anticipated a significant victory for the BJP in Rajasthan’s Lok Sabha elections, similar to its performance in the past.

In response to Mamata Banerjee’s claim about the BJP’s role in the clashes, Adityanath countered, “I am challenging and saying that BJP orchestrated the incident that happened the other day… If I ask the BJP commission why they removed their DIG one day before Ram Navami? Was it to plan this?”

He encouraged voters to contemplate the advancements made over the past decade and reiterated the BJP’s dedication to continually improving the quality of life for all segments of society.

“This election is an opportunity to connect our present with a bright future. Every vote that the BJP gets will go towards forming a stable government and impart momentum in our journey to become a developed nation by 2047,” the letter read.

“At this crucial time, I also urge you and all other workers to make full use of the last few hours of the election campaign. At the same time, I also request you to take care of your health and that of other people around you,” the letter added.

As a result, various police stations in the state are keeping a strict eye to prevent communal tension before Ram Navami.

Citing Indian Express report, RSS affiliated group Hindu Jagran Manch has reportedly planned approximately 5,000 large processions in the state. Especially in places like Barasat, Siliguri and Kolkata’s Burrabazar.

As a result, for further prevention measures, the administration of Hooghly, Howrah, Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur, Asansol and Barrackpore are on high alert owing to its recent instances of communal tensions during Ram Navami.

Further, the police has declared anyone undermining the law & order, will be dealt with strictly.

“No public display of weapons during processions on the festive occasion will be allowed,” said a police officer to The Indian Express. He further announced that processions too will be videographed.

</excerpt>

During his busy election schedule, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a break between his rallies in Assam to watch the ‘Surya Tilak’ ritual of Ram Lalla at Ayodhya Temple on the occasion of Ram Navami. The Prime Minister shared pictures on social media from inside his aircraft, showing him watching a recording of the moment when the rays of the sun lit up the forehead of Ram Lalla on his handheld device. PM Modi noted that like millions of Indians, this was a deeply emotional moment for him.

“After my Nalbari rally, I watched the Surya Tilak on Ram Lalla. Like crores of Indians, this is a very emotional moment for me. The grand Ram Navami in Ayodhya is historic. May this Surya Tilak bring energy to our lives and may it inspire our nation to scale new heights of glory,” PM Modi shared on social media.

Before the rally, the PM had shared the live link of the Ram Lalla idol at the Ayodhya Temple. The unique event at the Ram Temple involved anointing the forehead of the Ram Lalla idol with a ray of sunlight, known as ‘Surya Tilak,’ which was done through an elaborate system connected with mirrors and lenses. The temple trust had commissioned a team of scientists to make this occasion possible. Devotees across Ayodhya and in temples across the country celebrated the moment with chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram,’ with many expressing joy through song and dance.

This Ram Navami marks the first celebration after the Pran Pratishtha of the idol of Lord Ram by PM Modi on January 22 in Ayodhya. The darshan at the temple began at 3:30 am and was broadcast on about 100 LED screens throughout Ayodhya, as well as on the trust’s social media accounts.

</excerpt>

Devotees of Maa Durga and her nine incarnations are preparing for Day 5 of the nine-day festival, which begins on April 13, after celebrating Day 4 of the festival. Those who worship Maa Skandamata hope to receive her blessings on this day. This year, the celebration of Ram Navami on April 17 will bring an end to Chaitra Navratri, which began on April 9.

Maa Skandamata is the fifth incarnation of the Hindu Goddess Durga and is venerated on the fifth day of Chaitra Navratri. The name “Skandamata” signifies the mother of Lord Kartikeya or Skanda, the son of Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati, and the brother of Lord Ganesha. Associated with the heart chakra, Maa Skandamata embodies love, compassion, and maternal affection. She is revered for her protective and prosperous blessings, symbolizing fearlessness.

Traditionally, devotees seek the blessings of Maa Skandamata for protection, prosperity, and success in their endeavors. She is also believed to impart knowledge, wisdom, and enlightenment to her devotees. In Hindu religion, it is believed that the planet Buddha is governed by Goddess Skandamata.

Fruits and cardamoms are offered to the deity, along with Gandham, Pushpam, Deepam, and Sugandham. Worshipping Maa Skandamata in the morning during the auspicious Brahma Muhurta is seen to be especially beneficial.

The transition to lightweight and breathable fabrics demonstrates a considerate approach to ensuring the deity’s comfort in the upcoming hot months. Ram Lalla, a venerated idol standing 51 inches tall and representing the young Lord Rama, also known as “Balak Ram,” is crafted from a unique three-billion-year-old black stone by the talented artisan Arun Yogiraj from Mysuru.

The Pran Pratishtha ceremony for the divine idol was conducted on January 22, 2024. In preparation for the forthcoming Ram Navami celebrations, the administration of the Hanumangarhi temple convened on Friday to plan for the accommodation of devotees, according to temple officials.

The district administration and the police of Ayodhya were present at the meeting as well. they said. “The officials discussed provisions for drinking water and arrangements with special attention to the provision of toilets to ensure that devotees’ feet do not burn in the summer heat.”

The Hanumangarhi temple administration convened a meeting following incidents where several devotees fainted due to the heat and insufficient water supply.

The meeting was attended by the esteemed saints of Hanumangarh, National President of Sankat Mochan Sena Sanjay Das, Ayodhya Mayor Girishpati Tripathi, the Circle Officer of Ayodhya, senior police officers, and officials from the Municipal Corporation. The police administration and the Mayor of Ayodhya have guaranteed that visitors will encounter no difficulties and that comprehensive arrangements will be made to facilitate the devotees during Ram Navami.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of devotees continue to flock to Ayodhya following the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of Lord Ram Lalla. The daily visitation to the Hanumangarhi Ram Temple is on the rise, with an ever-increasing number of pilgrims.

</excerpt>

The six-member fact-finding committee on alleged violations of human rights in West Bengal, led by former Patna High Court Chief Justice Narsimha Reddy, said in its interim report on Monday that the riots during the Ram Navami procession were “pre-planned, orchestrated, and instigated”.

The fact-finding panel sought a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the violence. The fact-finding team was on a three-day tour of West Bengal to assess alleged human rights violations in the state during Ram Navami processions in Howrah and Hooghly districts.

The Committee consists of former Patna High Court Chief Justice L Narsimha Reddy, former IPS Raj Pal Singh, former member of the National Commission for Women advocate Charu Wali Khanna, former Joint Registrar (Law) of the National Human Rights Commission of India advocate OP Vyas, senior journalist Sanjeev Nayak, and former consultant to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights advocate Bhavna Bajaj.

“The Committee is of the view that the riots that erupted on the auspicious occasion of Rain Navami on 30 March and continued in its aftermath were pre-planned, orchestrated, and instigated. The trigger was the grossly inflammatory speech of the West Bengal Chief Minister. The Committee has come across several user-generated videos and media reports also reporting multiple videos, which confirm that the peaceful Ram Navami procession was targeted and the rioters were exhorted to stop and target the procession,” the report stated.

The Committee said in its report that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, just before the processions on Ram Navami, while sitting on dharna, made a call through a communal speech that any procession passing through ‘muslim areas’ (as spoken verbatim) will be seriously acted upon.

The committee said it appeared that communally charged mob violence broke out against people taking part in the peaceful Ram Navami processions, and at the same time, the state police were found completely missing in action to control rioters. The committee sought appropriate police action in the matter by filing FIRs against the culprits behind the riots to achieve justice for the victims.

The transition comes after the Delhi Police on Monday turned down requests to hold the Shree Ram Bhagwan Pratima Yatra and to give permission for Ramzan prayers in the same area.

An official order signed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, HQ, Northwest district, was issued and said: “I am directed to inform you that your request for Shree Ram Bhagwan Pratima Yatra on the occasion of Ram Navami Mahotsav on Thursday has been considered by the competent authority but could not be acceded to from the law and order point of view.”

Keeping in mind the earlier conflict that erupted on April 16, 2022, in the Jahangirpuri region during a procession scheduled to celebrate Hanuman Jayanti between two groups from different communities, the authority took a decision. The ensuing violence resulted in the injuries of at least eight police officers and one civilian.
