</excerpt>

At an outdoor rally in Asheboro, North Carolina, Donald Trump appeared in a bulletproof glass enclosure for his first public event since being injured in a shooting at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month. The shooting, which resulted in Trump having a bloodied ear, injured two attendees and killed one person, led the Secret Service to recommend that Trump hold only indoor events temporarily. Recently, the agency decided to use bulletproof glass to ensure his safety at outdoor rallies.

Trump’s North Carolina event was a strategic counter to the Democratic National Convention’s star-studded week in Chicago. The rally began with brief remarks from JD Vance, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, and included appearances by North Carolina Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson, whom Trump noted had “lost a lot of weight.”

Trump’s speech centered on national security, repeating familiar MAGA talking points about NATO, Afghanistan, and Russia, and attacking his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, whom he referred to as “Comrade Kamala.” He reiterated his long-standing claim that NATO allies have not paid their fair share, despite there being no legal obligation to meet the 2% GDP defence target outlined by the alliance.

He also claimed, without evidence, that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would not have occurred under his presidency and cited Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán’s supposed endorsement of his return to office. Trump continued to propagate unfounded election fraud claims and expressed frustration with the media and Democratic criticism.

On the topic of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2022, Trump promised to “fire” responsible military officials and described the ordeal in graphic terms. Despite campaign efforts to focus on policy issues, Trump frequently deviated into personal grievances, particularly in response to Barack Obama’s remarks at the convention. Trump’s speech ultimately included a tangent about whether Hillary Clinton should be imprisoned, reflecting his difficulty sticking to his campaign’s message.

</excerpt>

In a recent post on the social media platform X, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee highlighted the significant turnout at the Baloch Solidarity Committee’s rally in Nushki. The event, which saw a considerable number of women attending, brought together thousands of participants to express their unity in opposition to state oppression.

Baloch Yakjehti Committee stated, “At the Baloch Solidarity Committee’s rally in Nushki, thousands of people, including women, participated. The attendees took an oath to stand in solidarity against the state’s oppression and tyranny. The rally paid tribute to all the martyrs, including Shaheed Hamdan Badini. In this successful rally, thousands of people from Nushki, Rakhshan, and other areas expressed their support”.

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee emphasised that the Baloch Solidarity Committee’s rally in Nushki was a major event in the ongoing fight for Baloch rights and autonomy. This rally is part of a broader trend of activism in Balochistan, where demands for increased autonomy, cultural preservation, and resistance against state marginalisation and violence are widespread. The large turnout and unified opposition to state oppression highlight the enduring discontent and the Baloch community’s resolve to confront their issues, with strong support from areas like Nushki and Rakhshan.

Human rights violations in Balochistan have been a pressing issue for years, affecting various aspects of the region’s population. Reports frequently document cases where activists, political leaders, and students have been forcibly disappeared by state security forces, leaving families without information about their loved ones’ locations or well-being. This practice fosters fear and instability within communities and damages trust in state institutions. There are also allegations of extrajudicial killings, where individuals are reportedly executed by security forces without trial or legal process, often in connection with accusations of insurgency or activism. These actions contribute to an atmosphere of fear and repression and undermine the rule of law.

Activists, journalists, and civilians have experienced arbitrary arrests and extended detentions without formal charges, particularly those who criticize government policies or advocate for Baloch rights. Extensive military operations in Balochistan have triggered violent confrontations between security forces and insurgent groups, leading to civilian casualties and significant displacement. These operations worsen humanitarian crises by displacing communities and damaging infrastructure.

</excerpt>

During a eulogy for the late Democratic Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, Vice President Kamala Harris inadvertently referred to herself as “the president,” causing a notable stir among the attendees. The slip-up quickly became a focal point, with reactions from the crowd and the incident itself gaining widespread attention on social media.

On August 1, Kamala Harris delivered a tribute at a Houston church, where she was joined by prominent Democratic figures including Bill and Hillary Clinton. In her address, Harris highlighted Jackson Lee’s significant contributions, such as her efforts in establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday, reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, and advocating for LGBTQ rights.

WATCH THE VIDEO:

“Then, as president — as vice president — it was my honor, with the president. With the president!”

AWKWARD: Kamala Harris “accidentally” blurts out she is the president while at the eulogy for Sheila Jackson Lee.

The crowd’s reaction is ridiculous. pic.twitter.com/tVAFUdqUTk

— Kyle Becker (@kylenabecker) August 2, 2024

Kamala Harris spoke warmly of Jackson Lee’s legacy, noting, “It was Sheila Jackson Lee whose bill made Juneteenth a federal holiday.” She recounted moments spent alongside Lee and President Biden during the signing of the landmark legislation. However, in the midst of her speech, Harris accidentally referred to herself as “presi—” before catching the mistake and correcting herself.

“To clarify, as vice president, it was my honor – with the president! With the president!” she corrected, prompting cheers and applause from the audience. She continued, “It was my honor – it was my honor, with our president Joe Biden to stand beside Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee as our president signed her bill into law.”

The video of the incident quickly went viral, sparking a range of reactions online. Some critics accused Democratic members of politicizing the funeral, while others speculated whether the slip might have been deliberate. Supporters, however, seized on the moment, with some social media users playfully referring to Harris as the president.

Comments on social media varied widely: “Why is she turning a funeral into a rally? That’s just wrong!!!” one user wrote. Another commented, “Yes, she is the president.” Some questioned if the slip was intentional, with one user suggesting, “Not an accident – Biden is gone and even he calls Kamala President. She was installed by Obama.”

Sheila Jackson Lee, who passed away from pancreatic cancer on July 19 at the age of 74, was remembered for her nearly three decades of service since her first term in 1995. As President Biden prepares to step down to run for re-election in 2024, Harris is poised to succeed him, with the White House affirming that Biden will complete his current term before the election.

</excerpt>

The multi-party opposition alliance, Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan, has requested permission to hold a public gathering in Islamabad, according to ARY News.

This alliance, known as Tehreek Tahafuz Aayeen-i-Pakistan, which is a coalition of opposition parties, has decided to launch a campaign across the country for the “restoration” of the Constitution, with power shows planned in Karachi and Faisalabad, as reported by Dawn.

This request follows approaches by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Amir Mughal and the alliance’s focal person Akhunzada Yousafzai to the Islamabad administration seeking permission to hold a public gathering on June 8th at F-9 Park, as per ARY News. The alliance mentioned that Islamabad High Court (IHC) had already granted permission for the gathering.

The applicants stated that the public gathering, initially planned for March, was postponed due to the last days of Ramadan, according to ARY News.

Earlier, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted permission for a public gathering following a petition by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The PTI approached the IHC through its counsel and PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat, naming the Secretary of Interior, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad as respondents. The PTI also requested the court to order the authorities to refrain from using force against anyone attending the public meeting.

On May 16, Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan also moved the courts to seek permission to hold a rally in Faisalabad on May 17 as part of its movement to ‘save’ Pakistan’s constitution, Dawn reported.

As part of its movement, the Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan decided to hold power shows in Faisalabad and Karachi.

Addressing a lawyer’s convention in Faisalabad, Sunni Ittehad Council head Hamid Raza said they had decided to go ahead with the rally even if the government did not give permission. However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was not in favor of the idea, saying PTI workers would bear the brunt. He added that Imran Khan asked his legal team to move the courts for permission.

The alliance head, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, said he called on Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to order the Punjab police chief to permit the public gathering in the city, as he also supported her father Nawaz Sharif’s narrative for civilian supremacy.

In April, the six-party alliance decided to begin a nationwide movement for the rule of law and selected Mahmood Khan Achakzai as its president. The opposition’s decision to launch the campaign was aimed at protecting the Constitution.

</excerpt>

In a show of support for the 11th Panchen Lama, currently held by Chinese authorities, the Norwegian Tibet Committee organized a protest on April 25 outside the Chinese Embassy in Oslo. During the demonstration, participants urged for the release of Gedun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama, who remains in detention even as he marked his 35th birthday.

Protesters displayed Tibetan symbols and highlighted the situation of the imprisoned spiritual leader.

Tibetan flags waved alongside a portrait of the 11th Panchen Lama, serving as poignant symbols of the ongoing fight for religious freedom and human rights in Tibet. The demonstrators also engaged in a symbolic gesture of advocacy by placing a letter into the embassy’s mailbox, calling on Chinese officials to reevaluate the prolonged detention of the Panchen Lama and to release him promptly.

However, the protest faced disruption as Chinese officials from the embassy swiftly intervened, requesting Norwegian police personnel to intervene and cease what they labeled as “anti-China activity” outside the embassy grounds.

Despite the intervention, the demonstrators remained steadfast in their cause, peacefully advocating for the rights of the 11th Panchen Lama and the Tibetan community. Their actions mirrored the feelings of numerous individuals globally who stand united with Tibetans, demanding justice, freedom, and the preservation of fundamental human rights.

</excerpt>

With just two weeks remaining until the initial phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold a public gathering in Bihar’s Nawada on Sunday to appeal to the voters of the region. A significant turnout is anticipated at the rally.

This marks the PM’s second visit within a week.

In the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19, voting for Nawada will occur, with the BJP nominating Vivek Thakur for the seat. Vivek Thakur, the son of former union minister CP Thakur, will face off against RJD candidate Shrawan Kushwaha. Chirag Paswan, National President of Lok Janshakti Party and a part of the BJP-led NDA, expressed confidence in the alliance’s ability to secure victory across all 40 parliamentary seats in the state.

“It’s not just Bihar, but the whole country and even the world have full faith in PM Modi’s guarantee…On one side, we have PM’s guarantee and on the other side, we have a strong alliance (NDA), which assure that we are going to win 40/40 seats in Bihar…” Paswan said.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary stated, “We welcome PM Modi to the land of Bihar.”

Previously, PM Modi visited Jamui on April 4th and delivered a speech at the rally. He urged the voters to support Arun Bharti, the candidate of NDA’s ally in the state, Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas).

The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), the opposition coalition in Bihar comprising Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left parties, recently revealed that the RJD, its principal component, will contest 26 out of the state’s 40 Lok Sabha seats, including Purnia, in the forthcoming elections.

The Congress will compete for nine seats, while the CPI (ML) will contest on three seats, with the CPI and CPI (M) each vying for one seat.

Bihar will undergo polling across seven phases. The first phase will occur on April 19, followed by the second phase on April 26, the third phase on May 7, the fourth phase on May 13, the fifth phase on May 20, the sixth phase on May 25, and finally, the seventh phase on June 1.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA, comprising BJP, JDU (Janata Dal-United), and LJP (Lok Janshakti Party), clinched victory by leading on 39 out of 40 seats. In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal), INC (Indian National Congress), and RLSP (Rashtriya Lok Samta Party), secured only one seat.

The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 are scheduled to take place in seven phases beginning on April 19, with vote counting slated for June 4.

</excerpt>

During a public meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing them of pursuing a policy that “misguides and deprives” the poor. He highlighted the nine years of the BJP-led government, emphasizing their commitment to serving citizens and promoting good governance.

PM Modi further asserted that India’s achievements today are being recognized worldwide, contrasting it with the suffering people endured under the Congress-led government before 2014. He accused the Congress of betraying ex-servicemen by misusing the concept of ‘One Rank, One Pension’, while the BJP not only implemented the policy but also provided arrears to the veterans.

The Prime Minister went on to recall the grievances prevalent before 2014, including corruption protests, terrorist attacks, reluctance to build border roads, and a remote-controlled government. However, he credited the transformative change to the people’s vote in 2014, and highlighted the global discussions surrounding India’s development. PM Modi alleged that the Congress party has consistently misled and subjected the poor to suffering through their policies.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) working president Mahesh Kumar Goud informed about the visit of Priyanka Gandhi to Hyderabad on Thursday.TPCC leader said, “People are waiting for Priyanka Gandhi’s visit. She resembles the late Indira Gandhi. Priyanka Gandhi’s visit is the first of its kind. She is going to address a public meeting in Saroornagar, Hyderabad for the first time.”

“She is busy in the Karnataka elections now. After completing the schedule in Karnataka, she will come to Hyderabad and address a massive public meeting in connection with the Telangana Public Service Commission (TSPSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) paper leak case,” he added.

Hitting out at the Telangana government, the TPCC working president said that the government is least bothered about the TSPSC paper leak case and the future of 30 lakh educated unemployed youth.

“Nearly 30 lakh educated unemployed have registered in TSPSC. The government is least bothered about them. We will teach a lesson to the government and make the people aware of the TSPSC and SSC paper leak cases,” said the TPCC leader.
“There are also farmers’ issues in the state. Priyanka Gandhi will participate in a massive rally and public meeting in Hyderabad to address all these issues. The rally will start at the statue of Srikanth Chari, who sacrificed his life for Telangana and go for about two kilometres at the Saroornagar playground where the public meeting will take place,” he added.

Goud also reacted to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s call reciting Hanuman Chalisa across Karnataka on Thursday and alleged that since the Karnataka BJP government has failed in governance, they were seeking votes in the name of caste and community.
He said, “Karnataka BJP government has miserably failed in governance. There is a lot of corruption. There is a 40 per cent commission in every developmental activity. BJP is asking for votes in the name of caste and community. We are all Hindus. We also perform pooja of Shiva, Ram and Hanuman. But who has given them(BJP) the right to ask for votes in the name of Hinduism?”

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party government ended “injustice” done to the villages by the previous administrations which “ignored and avoided spending money in the rural areas”.

The Prime Minister alleged that the political parties in the past indulged in “dividing the people of the village”. Addressing the Panchayati Raj Diwas celebrations in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa, PM Modi said, “Earlier governments used to avoid spending money for the village… so they were ignored. Many political parties were running their shops by dividing the people of the village. BJP has also ended this injustice being done to the villages. Our government has opened the coffers for the development of villages.”

“The system which existed hundreds of years, thousands of years ago, the same Panchayati Raj system was not trusted after independence. I always think, those people of Chhindwara whom you trusted for so long, why were they never serious about your development?…. The party that run the govt the most after independence broke the trust of those villages…”he said.

Reflecting on the years before 2014, PM Modi said that only 6,000 panchayat buildings were built, while during the BJP rule in these eight years, more than 30,000 new panchayat buildings were constructed.

“In the 10 years before 2014, around 6,000 panchayat buildings were built with the help of the central government. Only about 6,000 panchayat houses were built in the whole country. Within 8 years, our government has got more than 30,000 new panchayat buildings have been constructed,” he said.

Lauding the work done by the BJP, the Prime Minister said that more than 2 lakh panchayats of the country have been connected to optical fibre.
“The previous government had connected optical fibre to less than 70-gram panchayats. It is our government, which has taken optical fibre to more than 2 lakh panchayats in the country,” he said.He said that the panchayats of India are emerging as the lifeblood of the development of villages.

“Since 2014, the country has taken up the cause of empowerment of its panchayats and the results are visible today. After 2014, the budget allocated for panchayats, which was earlier less than Rs 70,000 crores, has been increased to Rs 2 lakh crores. Today, panchayats of India are emerging as the lifeblood of the development of villages,” PM Modi said.
