Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that Rajkummar Rao, a noted Bollywood actor, will play the biopic’s titular character. Speaking at a news conference in Bardhaman, West Bengal, on Thursday, Ganguly said: “From what I’ve heard, Rajkummar Rao will play the titular role… yet there are issues with dates, so it will take more than a year to reach screens.”

The life of this great cricketer, from a tender talent in Kolkata to becoming one of India’s most famous captains, will be covered in the film. Ganguly played 113 Test matches and 311 ODIs for India, scoring 18,575 runs in all formats.

Ganguly led the Indian team to 21 Test wins, the highlight of which was an appearance in the World Cup final 2003. Even after his 2008 retirement, Saurav continued to be a star in Indian cricket by serving on the sports technical committee and the Cricket Advisory Committee with well-known VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar.

The film benefited from the fact that the tickets were priced at Rs 99 on its opening day. The sports drama then collected a decent Rs 4.65 crore on June 1. Mr and Mrs Mahi remained the top choice of moviegoers in metros on its first Sunday, going by early trends. According to Ramesh Bala, a trade tracker, the film is expected to rake in around Rs 5 crore on June 2.

“The word of mouth is good but not extraordinary. The film has found an audience in the Northern markets and of course Mumbai/Maharastra. Its strength is in the metro markets. As far as collections are concerned, it should do around Rs 5 on the third day. These are good figures for a film of this genre,” he told The Daily Guardian.

If this estimate holds,’ Mr and Mahi’ will collect nearly 18 crore during the first weekend.

As expected, ‘Mr and Mrs Mahi’ faced limited competition from ‘SAVI’ as both films cater to different audiences.

“They are selling tickets at Rs 99 a piece on Friday (May 31) so even if they sell two to three lakh tickets, the collection will be on the lower side. The sales may get a boost but not the actual collection. So, I am expecting it to do between Rs 2 crore and Rs 3 crore on the first day,”he told The Daily Guardian.

If this is the case, the film will open in the same range as Rajkummar’s previous release Srikanth. The biographical drama netted Rs 2.41 crore at the box office on the first day.

According to Sacnilk.com, ‘Srikanth’ had an overall occupancy of around 12 per cent on Monday.

Meanwhile, the actor was last seen in Bheed with Bhumi Pednekar. He will soon start shooting for Stree 2. Apart from this, Rajkummar has Raj & DK’s Guns & Gulabs in his kitty. On the other hand, Janhvi Kapoor was last seen in Mili produced by her father Boney Kapoor, which is a remake of the Malayalam film Helen. The film also starred Sunny Kaushal. The actress has quite an interesting line-up of projects in her kitty. Janhvi will feature in Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal alongside Varun Dhawan and Parth Siddhpura. Also, she will share the screen with Zarina Wahab, Kumud Mishra, and Rajesh Sharma.

Rajkummar Rao Celebrates 9 Years Of Citylights

Actors Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa starrer drama film ‘Citylights’ turned 9 on Tuesday.

To mark the occasion, RajKummar took to his Instagram account and shared a picture on his stories which he captioned, “Celebrating 9 years of #Citylights, a film that holds a special place in my heart. It was a profound emotional journey made possible by the love of the visionary @hansalmehta sir and my incredible co-star and partner, @patralekhaa Grateful.”

Helmed by acclaimed director Hansal Mehta, the film was released in the year 2014 and received positive responses from the audience. The film marked Patralekhaa’s Bollywood debut.

‘Citylights’ was an official remake of the British film ‘Metro Manila’. Apart from this, the actor-director duo, Rajkummar, and Hansal Mehta also collaborated for ‘Shahid’, ‘Aligarh’, ‘Omerta’, and ‘Chhalaang’.

Meanwhile, Rajkummar will be next seen in an upcoming sports drama film ‘Mr and Mrs Mahi’ opposite Janhvi Kapoor. Apart from that, he also has director Amar Kaushik’s upcoming horror comedy film ‘Stree 2’ alongside Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee. The film is all set to hit the theatres in August 2024.

Talking about Hansal’s work front, his next is a web series ‘Scoop’ which stars Karishma Tanna, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Harman Baweja, and Dhiren Bhojani in pivotal roles. The series is all set to stream on the OTT platform Netflix from June 2.

Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao took to their respective Instagram handles on Sunday and informed their fans and followers about their upcoming film, Mr and Mrs Mahi. The duo wrapped up the shooting of the film. The film will mark their second collaboration.

The gorgeous Janhvi shared a sunset picture on her Instagram story and wrote, “It’s a wrap. #MrandMrsMahi.”

Apart from Janhvi and Rajkummar Rao, the official handle of Dharma Movies also shared a picture of the film’s clapboard on Instagram. In the caption, they wrote, “AND IT’S A WRAP FOR MR. & MRS. MAHI! Ready for the final innings, we’ll see you soon in cinemas near you!” The makers are yet to announce the release date of Mr and Mrs Mahi.

Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor’s horror-comedy Stree 2 has got a release date now. Ayushmann Khurrana’s younger brother Aparshakti Khurana is also returning in the film. Amar Kaushik’s directorial was one of the super successful films of 2018. At Jio Studios’s Infinite Together event, the producer of the film Dinesh Vijan took the stage to announce that the film is coming on screens next year. The film brings back the star cast of Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee. Stree is ready to release on August 31, 2024.

Interestingly, Varun Dhawan-Kriti Sanon’s Bhediya 2 was also announced at the event.
Varun and Kriti’s Bhediya received a positive response at the box office. In the first part of the film, Kriti’s character died in the end, but her presence at the event makes us wonder if she would be a part of the sequel.

Dinesh Vijan also revealed that Maddock Films is working on a vampire-themed film as part of the horror-comedy universe. Adding more details, the plot of Stree is based on the urban legend Nale Ba of Karnataka. The film is based on the Indian folk legend about a witch who abducts men at night when they are alone and only leaves their clothes behind.
