Japan Builds World’s First 3D-Printed Train Station Within 6 Hours

A first in the world, a railway station in Japan has been constructed using 3D-printed parts in less than six hours. The Hatsushima railway station was constructed by construction company Serendix to replace an ageing wooden one between the last train of the night and the first of the morning, reported a New York Times article.

A Small but Essential Station in a Coastal Town

The station, serving about 530 passengers who travel on a single line with trains operating one to three times an hour, is located in a peaceful coastal town, within Arida, a 25,000-population city in Wakayama Prefecture.

The new building takes up just over 100 square feet and is much smaller than the former wooden station. According to the West Japan Railway Company (JR West), construction of the station traditionally would have taken more than two months and cost double.

3D Printing and Pre-Fab Efficiency in Japan

To accelerate the project, JR West engaged the services of Serendix where the station parts were printed within a factory located in Kumamoto prefecture, roughly 500 miles southwest of Hatsushima. The printing and reinforcement of the concrete took seven days. The parts were road-hauled and arrived at the station site during the morning of March 24.

“Normally, construction takes place over several months while the trains are not running every night,” said Kunihiro Handa, a co-founder of Serendix.

Fewer Workers, Faster Results in Japan

After the last train left the station at 11:57 pm, workers began assembling the 3-D printed pieces. A crane was used to lift each 3D block and place it into position near the old station. The new structure was ready before the first train arrived at 5:45 am.

“We believe that the significance of this project lies in the fact that the total number of people required will be reduced greatly,” said Ryo Kawamoto, president of JR West Innovations.

While the building has been put in place, it still needs interior work as well as equipment such as ticket machines and transportation card readers. As per JR West, the new railway station building is expected to be opened to the public in July.

Terrifying Message From Driver Before Scheduled Ride

She had booked a priority cab via Uber around 4 in the morning for her train journey. While bringing her luggage downstairs, she decided to check her Uber app to find the OTP of the ride, when she noticed a disconcerting message from the driver.

In the chat, she had told the driver about her destination, saying, “I am here. Anand Vihar Terminal drop. Please come.” To her shock, the driver replied, “Go to Anand Vihar. I want to go to kidnap you happily.”

She became alarmed, canceled the ride, and rushed back into her house. “I don‘t know what impulse kicked into me, but I thought to cancel the cab. When I began to cancel, he canceled himself,” she said in a post on Reddit, adding that she was able to capture a screenshot of the conversation just before it disappeared.

Miscommunication Theories

While some Redditors in the comment section mentioned that the word might be a mistranslation, the woman added that she had tried most of the language translation platforms and nothing matched the freakish answer. “I have checked over eight native language queries to English, and nothing translates to ‘kidnap‘ except the word ‘apaharan,'” she explained.

Action Plan by Uber

The woman filed a complaint against the driver, and also shared all his details with Uber. Uber‘s response team ensured her that he would be blocked permanently from her account and that they would contact him to understand the situation.

The cab service, Uber, responded saying that disciplinary action would not only be given, but they could even train the driver to the effect of his words and terminate his account entirely. “We will take steps to prevent such bizarre incidents from happening in the future,” the woman quoted Uber‘s response.

Netizens React With Concern

The disturbing report has caused a huge outcry among passengers over the safety of taxi rides. Many people advocated for strict screening and training of taxi drivers, while others asked fellow passengers to be onthe lookout and report any suspicious behavior right away.

This incident is a reminder of the need for ride-hailing services to givepriority to their users‘ security.

A video of a girl’s weird dance at a railway station has gone viral on social media, after which there has been extensive criticising and demanding of action. Seema Kanojia, better known by her Instagram handle @seemakanojiya87, is seen in the video dancing near a lady sitting on the bench at the station. In the video, Seema touches the woman from behind in an unusual manner, seemingly as part of her dance, as the latter stands up to leave.

She was visibly very displeased and protested, but Seema continued to harass her. She signaled her intent to hit Seema and turned to leave. Seema would not stop, following her and catching her around the neck from behind. This made the woman turn around and pull Seema’s hair. After this hair-pulling incident, the video ends abruptly.

Seema posted the video on her Instagram account, which has upwards of 746,000 followers. The video received in excess of 323 million views, was shared more than 75,000 times, liked by more than 200,000 users, and received over 5,300 comments. She captioned the video and explained that the content in the video was staged and done for entertainment purposes, engaging one of her friends.

She reasons out, “dancing like this on a railway platform was very risky.” A user mentions that a petition should be filed for strict action to be taken against such people; she would be “very angry if someone touched her without consent,” says Nikita.

Priya further commented that this incident proved the saying, “Money is not everything; there should also be brains.” Another user, Aarti Gaikwad, requested the Mumbai Railway Police to take necessary action if people were getting troubled because of this woman. Another user observed that true talent is not being recognized as people are watching and making everything viral.

Earlier, popularity was achieved through a lot of hardships like singing, dancing, talent, academics, and acting. However, now people are pushed to the extent that they use extreme steps to achieve quick and cheap popularity. The concept has been taken from the web series ‘Escape Live’ where the characters harass for popularity.

This viral video saga demonstrates more and more the extremes that people are willing to go to in order to become online famous, and the limits of what society will accept as appropriate behavior in public places. 23 Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested At Agartala Railway Station: GRP

The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested 23 Bangladeshi nationals at Agartala Railway Station, including one individual identified as a tout. The arrests took place on Saturday and involved individuals primarily from the Chapai Nawabganj district in Bangladesh.

The arrested individuals include Ram Saha (24), Md Asmaul Hoque (20), Jakir Hossain (40), Md Sahin Ali (26), Ibrahim Khalil (23), Sahin Alam (28), Nayan Ali (19), Md Ilahi Hossain (21), Md Taib Hossain (19), Md Dalim alias Iman (19), Md Abdul Ajij, Md Saiful Islam (25), Sahabuddin Shek (33), Md Shahidul Islam (20), Md Suman (26), Md Amirul Islam (24), Hajikul Babu (26), Ramjan Shek (19), Md Mijanur (24), Ali Akbar (36), Sakil Shek (19), and Md Rehan Sk (19). The individual identified as the tout is Md Selim Reja (27).

The GRP is currently investigating the detained individuals to ascertain the nature of their activities and the purpose behind their presence in the area. Authorities are also probing for any potential broader connections or networks that may be involved in this incident.

Fog Disrupts Train Schedules in Delhi: 20 Trains Delayed, Travellers Face Hassle

The national capital, New Delhi, is grappling with travel disruptions as dense fog blankets several parts of the country, affecting train schedules. Railway officials have reported delays for as many as 20 trains expected to arrive late on Monday due to the prevailing foggy conditions.

According to Northern Railways, four trains are significantly impacted, running behind schedule by approximately 6 hours. These include the Katihar-Amritsar Express, the Khajuarao-Kurukshetra Express, the Jammutawi-Ajmer Express, and the Ajmer-Katra Pooja Express. Another three trains, namely the Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, Ambedkarnagar-Katra Express, and Chennai-New Delhi GT, are anticipated to be delayed by around 2 hours. Additionally, the Manikpur-Nizamuddin Express is expected to arrive almost 4 hours late.

Twelve other trains are running behind by approximately 1-1.30 hours, including Kanpur-New Delhi Shramshakti, Saharsa-New Delhi Vaishali Express, Banglore-Nizamuddin, Bhubneshwar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Prayagraj-New Delhi Express, Rajendranagar-New Delhi Express, Muzaffarpur-Anand Vihar Express, Amritsar-Mumbai Express, Hyderabad-New Delhi Express, and Chennai-New Delhi GT.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that shallow to moderate fog has been experienced in isolated pockets over Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Visibility below 500 meters has been recorded in several parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Very dense fog conditions have been observed over isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar. Dense fog is expected in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh.

The weather conditions have led to significant measures, with the state education department in Chandigarh announcing a temporary suspension of physical classes up to the 8th grade in all government, government-aided, and recognized private schools for the next six days, from January 8 to January 13, 2024. Online classes have been recommended during this period.

In Delhi, thin fog has been witnessed, intensifying cold weather conditions. Parts of the city, including AIIMS and the Barapullah Flyover areas, experienced a layer of fog. The Central Pollution Control Board reports that the air quality in the national capital remains in the very poor category, with the overall Air Quality Index recorded above 300.

The prevailing weather conditions extend beyond Delhi, with dense fog reported in Bihar’s Patna and a thin layer observed on Dal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir. As the fog persists, travelers are advised to check for updates and plan accordingly, while authorities continue to monitor and manage the impact on transportation and daily activities.

Train Delays Due to Heavy Dense Fog in Delhi

Railway officials in Delhi have reported that a total of 23 trains are experiencing delays due to dense fog, resulting in low visibility in the region, said on Sunday. The Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express is facing a delay of approximately 7 hours, while the Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express and Azamgarh-Delhi Kaifiyat Express are delayed by 5 hours.

Additionally, five trains, including the Saharsa-New Delhi Vaishali Express, Allahabad-New Delhi Prayagraj Express, and Rajendranagar-New Delhi Sampoorn Kranti, are delayed by 4 hours. The Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani is running late by 1.45 hours, and the Padmavat Express is delayed by nearly 3 hours.

The Pune-Nizamudin Duronto is running 2 hours behind schedule, while the Bhopal-Nizamuddin Express is delayed by 6 hours, and the Durg-Nizamuddin S Kranti is running late by 3.50 hours.

Furthermore, the Chennai-New Delhi GT express is experiencing a delay of almost 6 hours. The India Meteorological Department has forecasted dense to very dense fog in various regions, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, as well as parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh. The department has also predicted a further drop in temperatures during the first week of January 2024, with temperatures ranging between 10 and 7 degrees Celsius at the Safdarjung Observatory in the national capital.

Ayodhya Railway station reflects our culture: Vaishnaw

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday inspected the revamped Ayodhya Railway station ahead of its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. He said that the station has been built according to the culture and tradition of the nation.
“According to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, railway station and other infrastructure in Ayodhya are being developed. Ayodhya Dham station has been built according to the culture and tradition of our country. This is the vision of our Prime Minister,” Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters here.

He said that many things in the revamping the railway station are new. The Minister said the holding area of the station is very spacious, and 100 foot of roof plaza has been built there.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Ayodhya Dham Junction Railway Station on December 30.

Ashwini Vaishnaw said that in PM Modi’s railway station redevelopment vision, roof plaza is a key component.
“Big roof plaza has been built here so that passengers can sit, local products can be sold, children can play…this will be standard feature in all the railway stations that are being redeveloped,” he said.

The Ayodhya Dham Junction Railway Station, developed at a cost exceeding Rs 240 crore, boasts a modern three-storey building equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as lifts, escalators, food plazas and child care rooms. Notably, the station is ‘accessible for all’ and has been certified as a green station building by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
It is pertinent to note that the Prime Minister’s vision for Ayodhya extends beyond the railway station. At approximately 11:15 AM, he will flag off the Amrit Bharat trains, introducing a new category of superfast passenger trains in the country.

The Amrit Bharat Express, an LHB push-pull train with non-air-conditioned coaches, promises an enhanced passenger experience with improved amenities including attractive seat designs, better luggage racks, mobile charging points, LED lights, CCTV and a public information system.

PM will inaugurate two Amrit Bharat trains, which are Darbhanga-Ayodhya-Anand Vihar Terminal Amrit Bharat Express and Malda Town-Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminus (Bengaluru) Amrit Bharat Express.

Additionally, six new Vande Bharat Trains will be flagged off, contributing to the nation’s rail network. The Vande Bharat Express trains include routes such as Ayodhya-Anand Vihar Terminal, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi, Amritsar-Delhi, Coimbatore-Bangalore Cantt, Mangalore-Madgaon and Jalna-Mumbai.

Liquor was seized from the Amrapali Express passing through Muzaffarpur railway station

Two trolley bags, a backpack and a satchel were recovered from near the toilet of bogie number b1 of train number 15708 Amrapali Express, which arrived at Muzaffarpur railway station platform number two. GRP station in-charge Dinesh Sahu said that the GRP team reached Muzaffarpur station, checked in B1 bogie of Amrapali Express and recovered several trolley bags in unclaimed condition. Out of all the trolley bags recovered on the train, 86 bottles of foreign liquor were seized. The total recovered liquor is 22.140 litres. A case has been registered against the unknown and further action is being taken.

Several trains delayed; severe cold spell headed this week

There is bad news for people of the national capital as North India will see a drop in temperatures to a minimum of -4 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 2 degrees Celsius in the plains.

Taking to Twitter the weather expert tweeted, “Don’t know how to put this up but the upcoming spell of #Coldwave in #India look really extreme during 14-19th January 2023 with a peak on 16-18th, Never seen temperature ensemble going this low in a prediction model so far in my career. Freezing -4°c to +2°c in plains, Wow!”

Meanwhile, in Punjab, Haryana, New Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Norther Madhya Pradesh there will be a grip of a severe cold wave with a minimum temperature between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius.

Moreover, due to dense fog from the New Delhi Railway station, several trains were delayed on Thursday but no trains diversion took place.

Talking about temperature recorded in Delhi’s Safdarjung was 9.3°C while 9.6°C was recorded at 8.30 am in Palam.

“Due to the current Western Disturbances and consequent stronger surface winds, Fog conditions have significantly improved over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and West UP. Although Dense to Very Dense Fog cover continues over East UP and Bihar,” India Meteorological Department tweeted.

On January 12, IMD has predicted rainfall and snowfall and from 14 January a fresh cold spell has been predicted.

RK Jenamani, a weather scientist at IMD, said, “For a cold spell, the number of such days experienced should be in the range of 5 to 6 days. A similar situation was experienced in 2006 when the lowest temperature was recorded at 1.9 degrees Celsius. In 2013, there was a similar cold spell.”

However, on Thursday Delhi saw a slight improvement in the air quality with the overall air quality index (AQI) in the ‘very poor’ category at 312.

Furthermore, till 12 January a temporary ban has been imposed on Monday by the AAP government on the plying of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers.
