Rahul Dravid Reacts to Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Historic Century in IPL 2025 | Watch

April 29, 2025, 3:41 am

Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Rahul Dravid, himself recuperating from an injury and on crutches in a wheelchair, stood up to salute Vaibhav Suryavanshi as the young batter illuminated the Sawai Mansingh Stadium with a resplendent century.

In the IPL 2025 match against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday, April 28, 14-year-old left-hander Vaibhav hit a breathtaking 35-ball century as RR pursued a tough target of 210. Vaibhav sprinted to his fifty off only 17 balls before stepping up to get to his century with a huge six over deep mid-wicket off Rashid Khan in the 10th over.

After his milestone, Vaibhav’s teammates, Dravid, and the Royals’ support staff gave him a standing ovation. Dravid, who hurt himself recently while playing cricket in Bengaluru, has been accompanying the Royals on the road during his recovery.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Breaks New Records

Vaibhav broke a number of records in his incredible innings. He became the youngest player to make a T20 fifty, breaking the record held earlier by Hassan Eisakhil, and then went on to become the youngest T20 centurion, beating Vijay Zol’s record.

His 35-ball century also stood as the quickest by an Indian in IPL history, eclipsing Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball hundred for the Royals against Mumbai Indians in 2009. In all IPL seasons, only Chris Gayle has achieved a quicker hundred, reaching the mark in 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013.

Suryavanshi then scored 101 runs off 38 balls, with seven fours and 11 sixes. He also added a 166-run stand for the first wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal in 11.5 overs. His unbelievable knock finally came to an end when he was bowled by Prasidh Krishna.

The Royals later went on to win the game by eight wickets after chasing the target with 25 balls to spare. Jaiswal also remained not out on 70 off 40 balls, giving Vaibhav support in RR’s run-chase.

Rahul Dravid Reacts to Rumoured Rift with Sanju Samson: Calls It “Baseless”

April 19, 2025, 10:59 am

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Rajasthan Royals, totally dismissed news of any feud between the franchise and captain Sanju Samson. During the press conference before the IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants, Dravid termed all the reports as “baseless.” He asserted that the team is still united in their quest for the playoffs.

The Story of rumoured Rift Between Rahul Dravid and Sanju Samson

The scandal originated from a video clip in which Sanju Samson failed to participate in a team huddle when Dravid was observed in discussion with support staff and a few of his players. It prompted news of a potential rift and even a threat to Sanju’s RR captaincy.

“I don’t know where these reports are coming from. Sanju and I are on the same page,” Rahul Dravid said.

“He’s a very integral part of our team. He’s involved in each and every decision and discussion. Sometimes, when you lose games and things don’t go right, you face criticism and we can take it on our performances, but we can’t do anything about this baseless stuff. The spirit of the team is really good, I’m impressed with how hard these guys work. One of the things people don’t understand is how hurt the players feel when they don’t perform,” the Rajasthan Royals head coach explained.

Sanju Samson’s Injury Update Ahead of LSG Clash

Samson’s availability is in question for the match against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday. The franchise is waiting on scan reports of a side injury.

Samson retired injured after hitting 31 off 19 balls due to a possible side strain in RR’s recent game against the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday.

The RR skipper seemed to be in pain after attempting a cut shot off Vipraj Nigam. The physio checked the left side of his ribcage. He walked off the field shortly after facing the next delivery. The match was tied, and RR ultimately lost the Super Over.

“Sanju experienced a bit of pain in the abdominal area. So we have gone for scans. He has done some scans today so we are waiting the results of those scans. And then once we get a bit more clarity around the scans and the severity of (the injury) we’ll take a decision going forward and we’ll see what happens,” head coach Rahul Dravid said in the pre-match press conference on Friday.

April 18, 2025, 8:55 am

The exciting match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday (April 16, 2025), which was finally won through Super Over, is still the hot topic of discussion on social media, with all the post-game video footage being discussed and analyzed. But the viral one has created fear among social media users about a divide within the Rajasthan Royals team between head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Sanju Samson.

In the video, Dravid can be observed talking to Rajasthan Royals team members, including his support staff, shortly before the Super Over begins, with the commentator wondering who the team would choose to bat against Mitchell Starc. The player was next observed waving Sanju Samson over to the conversation as the captain was strolling in the vicinity of the dugout, but he immediately shook his head with his hand to reject the invitation.

Sanju Samson’s body language tells a 1000 word’s of his painful situation in this RR team.

How Did DC Defeat RR?

Batting first in their second home match in Delhi in the current IPL 2025, Delhi depended on a late flourish by captain Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs to post a target of 189. KL Rahul and opening batsman Abhishek Porel contributed a 63-run partnership off 57 balls, but the slow nature of the wicket did not enable them to gain pace against spin or pace. But Axar counterattacked against Wanindu Hasaranga and slammed 34 off 14 deliveries while Stubbs, dropped on 18 off the spinner, took 18 balls for his unbeaten 34 as the last three overs yielded Delhi 42 runs.

In response, Nitish Rana and Yashasvi Jaiswal made their respective fifties to place Rajasthan in the touching distance of victory, but Mitchell Starc defended nine runs in the last over with his flawless yorkers to compel a tie-breaker.

Super Over Drama

Two run-outs in Starc’s Super Over reduced Rajasthan to 11-2 before KL Rahul and Stubbs hammered Sandeep Sharma’s first four balls for 13 runs and moved Delhi to the top of the points table with five victories from six matches.

Rahul Dravid in Wheelchair After RR’s Loss – Internet Calls It a “Painful Sight”

March 27, 2025, 11:12 am

Rajasthan Royals (RR), guided by cricketing legend Rahul Dravid, have not had a smooth beginning to IPL 2025. Having lost two games – and now occupying the lowest rung in the points table with a negative net run rate of -1.882 – things cannot get worse for RR. To add to their misfortune, their head coach Rahul Dravid too is struggling with the leg injury and was spotted on a wheelchair after their recent – and second – loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Dravid’s Injury and Viral Images

Before the season, Dravid had a leg injury while playing cricket in Bengaluru. The India great arrived at the RR camp with a cast on his left leg and has been using crutches to get around. Following RR’s loss to KKR, a video of Dravid moving around the field in a wheelchair went viral, evoking an emotional reaction from fans on social media. Fans were sad, viewing the cricket legend in such a condition.

Rajasthan Royals had previously posted an update regarding Dravid’s situation, saying, “Head Coach Rahul Dravid, who picked up an injury while playing Cricket in Bangalore, is recovering well and will join us today in Jaipur.”

The

Former RR captain Dravid spent five years playing for the franchise between 2011 and 2015. He initially started coaching at RR in 2014 as a player, transitioning to a mentor role before landing bigger coaching roles, such as with the Indian national team.

Rajasthan Royals’ Struggles Continue

RR’s on-field performance has been of concern. They lost their most recent match to Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets. They chose to bat first, but KKR’s tight bowling, spearheaded by spinners Varun Chakravarthy (2/17) and Moeen Ali (2/23), limited Rajasthan to a subpar 151/9 in 20 overs.

As a response, KKR’s Quinton de Kock played a batting masterclass, scoring an outstanding unbeaten 97 from 61 deliveries. His innings, which contained eight boundaries and six sixes, took KKR to an easy win within 17.3 overs.

Despite initial hiccups with the dismissals of Moeen Ali (5) and captain Ajinkya Rahane (18), De Kock was well-supported by young Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who chipped in 22 runs from 17 deliveries. The two added an 83-run partnership in 44 balls, making the chase comfortable for the reigning champions.

What’s Next for RR?

With the head coach in physical trouble and the team performing poorly on the field, the Rajasthan Royals require a good comeback to remain in the running this season. Their batting and bowling departments have to rise to the occasion and reverse the fortunes in their next matches.

Supporters hope that the team, now coached by Dravid, can recover and regain their form in IPL 2025.

A Surprise Return to the Cricket Field

In a surprise comeback to competitive cricket before his injury, Dravid played with his younger son, Anvay, for the Vijaya Cricket Club (Malur) in the KSCA Group I, Division III league game. Playing at No. 6, the Indian cricket icon scored 10 runs off eight balls against the Young Lions Club at the SLS Kreedangana cricket ground in Bengaluru before getting dismissed by spinner AR Ullas. The father-and-son partnership lasted a short 17-run stand for the fifth wicket.

During the semifinal match against Jayanagar Cricketers, Dravid came in at the crease alongside Anvay when Vijaya Cricket Club was in trouble at 12/3 in the seventh over. Two overs into his stay, the 52-year-old was seen in pain but remained on the field, sharing a key 66-ball 43-run stand with his son. The injury ultimately got the better of him, and his team couldn’t manage a win.

IPL 2025: Rajasthan Royals’ Campaign Kick-Off

Despite the injury, Dravid’s show of face in Rajasthan Royals’ training sessions testifies to his unflinching commitment to the team. The Royals, who won the IPL title in 2008 and returned to the final in 2022, are ready for the next season. They will start their IPL 2025 journey against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 23.

March 13, 2025, 6:17 pm

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 starts on March 22, and the teams are well into their preparations. Rajasthan Royals, also, have opened their training camp, but there was a shocking sight on Wednesday—head coach Rahul Dravid showed up at the camp on crutches. This was only a week after he injured his left leg in a club game in Bengaluru.

In spite of the unfortunate incident, Dravid made his way to Jaipur, personally interacting with the players. Rajasthan Royals posted his photo on social media, with his left leg in a medical walking boot. The post read:

Dravid, being a tough guy, did not allow the injury to come in the way. He welcomed players, chatted with young prospects such as Riyan Parag, and watched intently as Yashasvi Jaiswal practiced shadow shots while taking tips. Though he was on crutches, Dravid sat close to the field, studying the whole session.

In another social media update, Rajasthan Royals uploaded a video of Dravid arriving at the practice ground, garnering widespread admiration from fans for his dedication to the team.

During the semifinal game, Dravid came in with Anvay to the crease when his team was struggling at 12/3. He played on despite the pain, and he formed a 43-run partnership. His injury, however, became worse, and he was assisted off the field.

Dravid, who was earlier in Guwahati with Rajasthan Royals for their pre-season camp, will now lead the team from the dugout as they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first match on March 23 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

The Royals, who won the IPL in 2008 and were runners-up in 2022, had finished third in the 2024 season. With Dravid’s guidance, they are looking to make it to the top in IPL 2025.

Dravid became the head coach of Rajasthan Royals prior to the IPL 2025 auction after his successful tenure with Team India, as he led them to the win in T20 World Cup 2024.

Rajasthan Royals’ Youngest Signing Makes Headlines

In the meantime, RR skipper Sanju Samson showered accolades on 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the youngest player to be signed in IPL history. Suryavanshi made news during the IPL 2025 mega-auction when Rajasthan Royals picked him up for Rs 1.1 crore. Born on March 27, 2011, in Bihar, he emerged as the youngest player on the list.

Suryavanshi had already made a mark in domestic cricket. He made his first-class debut for Bihar in January 2024 at just 12 years and 284 days old. His performances for India U19, including a blistering 58-ball century against Australia, and his 176 runs in five matches during the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup 2024-25, showcased his immense potential.

Samson Praises Suryavanshi’s Talent

Talking to JioHotstar during the ‘SuperStar’ show, Samson complimented Suryavanshi on his confidence and six-hitting. He emphasized the need to watch promising talents before offering advice.

“For me, instead of advice, first I like to observe—how a young boy wants to play his cricket, what he is comfortable with, and what sort of guidance he requires from me. Then I act accordingly. Vaibhav seems to be very confident; he was hitting sixes out of the ground at the academy. People were already discussing his power-hitting. What more can you expect? It’s all about knowing his strengths, supporting him, and standing by him like an elder brother,” Samson said.

While Rajasthan Royals gear up for IPL 2025, everyone is waiting with bated breath for Dravid’s comeback and anticipating the young sensation Suryavanshi to take the field.

Rahul Dravid’s ‘Jealous’ Remark: Sanju Samson’s Father Makes Shocking Claim

January 24, 2025, 6:12 pm

Sanju Samson has been making waves recently amid his ongoing dispute with the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA). After being left out of the Champions Trophy 2025 squad, the KCA accused Samson of skipping a preparatory camp for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, further alleging he “lacked discipline.” Samson’s father, Viswanath, has now accused the KCA of attempting to derail his son’s career, revealing how Rahul Dravid stepped in to prevent it years ago.

Speaking on Sports Today, Viswanath shared that Dravid played a crucial role in Sanju’s journey when he was just 11 years old. He stated that Dravid helped shield his son from adversity and inspired him to persevere.

“I will tell you one incident about Rahul Dravid. When KCA had tried to disregard Sanju and destroy his career, Dravid ji had interfered in the matter. Wherever Sanju is at today, he owes it to Rahul Dravid. I have not forgotten anyone who has given us warmth and generosity. When action was being taken against Samson, they had given up his kit and everything else. Then, one day, we were all sad and sitting at home when Sanju got a call from Rahul sir. Sanju was overjoyed. He picked up the phone crying. The mood in the house was sombre,” Samson Viswanath revealed. He added, “After keeping down the phone, he told me ‘it was Rahul sir’. He said ‘Sanju, I understand all that is happening with you. They are all jealous of you. Tu chinta mat kar (Don’t worry). Don’t get your morale down. I have taken care of it. You keep training and get ready for NCA’. He operated at a level higher than the KCA and took Sanju under his wings.”

The first match of the ongoing T20I series between India and England saw India show all their might, winning the toss and electing to field. Indian bowlers had a stellar outing, restricting England to just 132 runs in 20 overs. Skipper Jos Buttler was the sole standout for England, scoring a gritty 68 off 44 balls with eight boundaries and two sixes.

India got Varun Chakravarthy to head the bowling department with 3/23, as Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel claimed two wickets apiece.

India comfortably chased down the target with seven wickets in hand and 43 balls to spare. Sanju Samson added some quickfire runs for 26 off 20 balls, with four boundaries and a six. But it was Abhishek Sharma who took away the show with 79 off just 34 deliveries, five fours, and eight sixes.

Varun Chakravarthy was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding bowling performance.

Dravid Sleeps in Economy, Rohit Jokes: Inside India’s 16-Hour Barbados-Delhi Flight

July 30, 2024, 9:08 am

It’s been exactly one month and a day since the cricket-loving nation of India erupted in celebration as the team defeated South Africa by seven wickets to clinch the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados. The journey to this triumph was long and fraught with disappointments: 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2023 all saw near-misses. For 11 years after their 2011 and 2013 victories, India had been unable to secure an ICC title. In that time, MS Dhoni retired, careers began and ended, and the wait for another ICC trophy grew more agonizing.

This long wait finally ended on June 29, 2024, bringing relief to years of anticipation. The victory also marked the end of T20 international careers for two of India’s greatest players, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The emotional farewell was evident as tears flowed, symbolizing the highs and lows they had experienced together, from their first World Cup win to this final triumph.

Following the victory, the entire nation awaited the return of their heroes. Originally scheduled to arrive on July 1, their return was delayed by Hurricane Beryl, which caused flight cancellations and stranded the team, support staff, and media in Bridgetown, Barbados. The city shut down for two days due to the Category 5 hurricane. Eventually, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah arranged a chartered flight for the team after the airports reopened.

The flight, AIC24WC, became one of the most tracked in history as it carried the Indian contingent and the World Cup trophy back home. After a 16-hour journey, the flight landed in Delhi around 6 AM on July 4, greeted by a sea of fans eager to see their favorite cricketers. The team had a busy schedule ahead, meeting the Prime Minister before heading to Mumbai for a roadshow and a ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium. Despite the long flight, there was no sign of jetlag among the players.

The details of what happened inside the flight have fascinated many. According to a Star Sports producer on board, the atmosphere was lively and hardly anyone slept for more than six hours. Players mingled, spoke with the press off the record, and interacted with others on the flight. Notably, Rohit Sharma was seen jokingly scolding someone, and Rahul Dravid sought a place to sleep in the economy section.

The flight took off from Barbados at 4:00 AM local time. Upon landing, the magnitude of their victory became clear as airport staff greeted the team with applause and fans gathered outside the airport, some chasing after the bus as it departed.

Such a victory is a rare and celebrated event, and the memories of this win will be cherished for years to come.

Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant recently shared insights into the pivotal figures who have greatly impacted their careers. In a Star Sports video, they talked about the significant roles MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid have played in their development as cricketers and individuals.

Rohit, who has just retired from T20 Internationals after leading India to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, expressed profound respect for Dravid. He attributed much of his success to Dravid’s mentorship, especially during the recent T20 World Cup in the Americas, where Dravid was the head coach.

Meanwhile, the dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant praised Dhoni’s invaluable guidance. Pant emphasized how Dhoni’s experience and wisdom have been essential to his growth as a player.

“Look, my relationship with him goes back a long way, starting from when he was my first international captain in Ireland,” Rohit said.

“He’s been a tremendous role model for us all. We’ve seen what he’s achieved both personally and for the team, often pulling us out of tough situations. His determination throughout his career was something I wanted to learn from when he came in as a coach. It has been incredibly beneficial, and besides the World Cup, we’ve won several major tournaments and series under his guidance,” Rohit added.

Pant shared similar thoughts about Dhoni, saying, “Not just on the field, but off the field as well, MS Dhoni is always there to support and guide me. He’s my go-to person whenever I’m unsure, and he encourages me to develop my own thought process.”

Rahul Dravid Shows Fairness and Leadership in Cricket

July 10, 2024, 10:34 am

Rahul Dravid, the former coach of India’s cricket team, has shown his good sportsmanship once again. After India won the T20 World Cup in 2024, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to give a big reward of INR 125 crores to the team and support staff. They planned to give Dravid INR 5 crores and his coaches INR 2.5 crores each. However, Dravid didn’t want the extra INR 2.5 crores meant for him. Instead, he asked the BCCI to split it equally among all his coaches, like bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip, and batting coach Vikram Rathore.

A source from the BCCI told the sources, “Rahul wanted the same bonus money ($2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff. We respect his feelings.” This wasn’t the first time Dravid did this. When he coached the Under-19 team in 2018, he also asked for equal rewards for everyone on his staff.

Dravid’s decision shows his humility and belief in fairness. He believes in giving credit to everyone who contributes to success, not just himself. This makes him a role model in cricket. Even though he has left his coaching role after the T20 World Cup win, Dravid’s actions continue to inspire respect and teamwork in cricket.

Gautam Gambhir has now taken over as India’s coach, with the BCCI expressing confidence in his abilities. They believe Gambhir’s experience and vision will help Indian cricket move forward.

Rahul Dravid‘s legacy is not just about his cricket skills but also about his fairness and leadership. His actions teach us important lessons in sportsmanship and respect, leaving a lasting impact on Indian cricket and inspiring athletes and coaches worldwide.

The team’s return to India was delayed due to a hurricane in the Caribbean, but they finally made it home with the trophy after an Air India charter flight was diverted.

The meeting with PM Modi not only celebrated the team’s success but also underscored their resilience and strategic brilliance on the field, making the entire nation proud.

Indian Captain Rohit Sharma cuts a cake at ITC Maurya in Delhi to celebrate the ICC T20 World Cup victory. Now Rohit Sharma and the rest of the Indian team have left the ITC Maurya, where they set up camp from the Delhi airport, and are making their way to the Prime Minister’s residence. It takes about 15 odd minutes to go from the ITC Maurya to the PM’s residence. Considering the fact that the roads have been cordoned off and there is going to be no traffic for this bus to navigate through, the team should cover this distance in about 10 minutes.

Rahul Dravid’s Simple But Powerful Message Drives India’s T20 World Cup Victory

July 3, 2024, 2:50 pm

Rahul Dravid is known for his clear communication skills, making him an excellent man manager. However, he can also convey his message without words when necessary. Before the T20 World Cup final, the India head coach used a simple yet impactful two-slide presentation to motivate his players. After India’s thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa, which ended a 13-year World Cup drought, Suryakumar Yadav shared how Dravid’s presentation inspired the team to rise to the occasion.

Suryakumar, who made a crucial catch of David Miller in the last over, explained that Dravid showed a graph of the total T20I matches played by the Indian team members, including captain Rohit Sharma, veteran Virat Kohli, and the youngest player, Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The following slide displayed the number of T20I games played by India’s coaching staff—Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T Dilip. Notably, Dravid is the only one among them who has played T20Is at the highest level, with his first and only T20I against England marking his retirement from white-ball cricket.

“He showed a graph of the number of T20I games the entire Indian team had played — from Virat bhai to Yashasvi Jaiswal (the most junior member). That number was 800-plus,” Suryakumar told The Indian Express. “And then he showed a second slide that had the number of games that the entire coaching staff, including Rahul bhai, had played — that number was 1.”

The extensive experience in T20 cricket, thanks to the IPL and Syed Mushtaq Ali T20s, was highlighted by Dravid. Even the youngest team member, Jaiswal, has played 98 T20s, including 17 T20Is, while Rohit and Virat have a combined total of 284 T20I matches.

Dravid’s point was clear: the players were best equipped to make the right decisions on the field. “He (Dravid) said to us, ‘You are the best judge here to make the right call at the right time. So leave every other thing to us, go out there and enjoy your game’,” Suryakumar recounted.

India’s flawless performance in the T20 World Cup, where they didn’t lose a single match, underscored their dominance. In the final phase of Dravid’s tenure, India reached the finals of all three ICC events within 13 months, losing only one out of 20 matches in the last two World Cups.

The team’s guiding principle was to focus on the present and not worry about the future. “Before the start, we decided that we won’t talk about what lies ahead in the tournament. Nobody thought about Super 8 and the same was true for the finals in Barbados. Our mind has to be where our feet are — that was our motto,” Suryakumar said.

‘Thank You For Everything’: Arshdeep Singh’s Heartfelt ‘Thank You’ Post For Rahul Dravid Goes Viral

July 3, 2024, 1:19 pm

India pacer Arshdeep Singh’s heartfelt tribute to outgoing India head coach Rahul Dravid has gained widespread attention on social media. His significant contribution helped India secure victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final on Saturday, June 29 in Barbados. Arshdeep shared a photograph showing him with the 2018 U-19 World Cup trophy alongside then-coach Dravid on the left, marking a full circle moment in their journey together.

Under Prithvi Shaw’s captaincy and Dravid’s guidance, India had previously clinched the 2018 U-19 World Cup by defeating Australia in the final. Arshdeep played a crucial role in that tournament, taking three wickets across two matches with an impressive economy rate of two.

“2018➡️2024. Thank you for everything coach saab??❤️,” Arshdeep captioned his post.

During the T20 World Cup finals, Arshdeep delivered an outstanding performance, claiming two key wickets including a well-set Quinton de Kock. He followed up with a remarkable 19th over, conceding only four runs, which was crucial after India’s spinners leaked 106 runs in their nine overs.

Arshdeep’s childhood coach Jaswant Rai credited Dravid for helping Arshdeep secure a County Championship deal with Kent. Rai highlighted how Arshdeep’s stint in Kent enhanced his bowling skills, emphasizing variations over length.

Arshdeep emerged as one of the top performers in the T20 World Cup, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker alongside Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz with 17 scalps and an economy rate of 7.16. He is set to feature next when India faces Sri Lanka in a limited-overs series starting from July 27.

BCCI President Reveals Major Update As Rahul Dravid’s Coaching Era Concludes

June 30, 2024, 11:50 am

The Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, has won the T20 World Cup for the second time. They beat South Africa in a thrilling final by just seven runs. This victory marks the end of Rahul Dravid’s time as head coach of the Indian team.

BCCI President Praises the Team

Roger Binny, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), congratulated the team on their fantastic win. He praised their hard work and dedication, which led to this incredible achievement.

Gautam Gambhir as the Next Head Coach?

With Dravid’s stint as head coach coming to an end, there is much speculation about who will take over. Roger Binny the president of BCCI has suggested that former opener Gautam Gambhir could be a great choice for the role. Gambhir, a hero of the 2011 World Cup, has said he would love to coach the Indian team and considers it an honor if given the opportunity.

Experience Matters

Binny believes that India needs a coach who has played all formats of cricket. He thinks Gambhir’s extensive experience makes him a perfect fit. “Gautam Gambhir has a lot of experience and if he takes the job, it will be a good thing for Indian cricket. He has played in all three formats of the game, which is what India needs,” said Binny.

Farewell to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

After the World Cup victory, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20 internationals. Binny acknowledged their significant contributions to the team and admitted that replacing them will be tough. “They have been outstanding… it is going to be very difficult to replace them immediately. It’s a great loss at the moment. Hopefully, we can find some young talent from the IPL to fill their shoes,” he added.

Dravid’s Impact on Indian Cricket

Under Rahul Dravid’s leadership, the Indian team made it to the finals of the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship in 2023. Though they lost to Australia in both events, Dravid’s guidance was instrumental in the team’s growth. India’s 11-year wait for an ICC title ended with their T20 World Cup win in 2024, a testament to Dravid’s efforts. “Rahul as a cricketer has been fantastic. His contribution to the team has been tremendous because of the experience he brought to the table. It’s just unfortunate that he lost a few games,” Binny said.

As India celebrates this monumental win, all eyes are now on who will take up the mantle of head coach. Will Gautam Gambhir step in to lead the Men in Blue to further glory? Only time will tell.

Virat Kohli played a pivotal innings, scoring 76, with late support from Shivam Dube, who added 27 runs.

South Africa’s chase started poorly as Jasprit Bumrah bowled Reeza Hendricks in the second over, followed by Arshdeep Singh dismissing Aiden Markram in the third, leaving them struggling with two quick wickets. Earlier, India’s top order faltered against Keshav Maharaj, who took the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, and Kagiso Rabada, who dismissed Suryakumar Yadav, putting India in a precarious position during the powerplay. Axar Patel then stabilized the innings with a well-played 47 before being run out by Quinton de Kock.

India’s bowlers held their nerve to secure a memorable victory and the coveted T20 World Cup trophy, bringing immense joy to Indian cricket fans worldwide.

Earlier in the match, England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to field first against the unbeaten Indian team. The toss was delayed by 80 minutes due to heavy morning rain that left the outfield wet. Rain interrupted play again after eight overs, with India at 65 for two, courtesy of a solid partnership between Rohit Sharma (37*) and Suryakumar Yadav (13*). Besides Kohli, India also lost Rishabh Pant, who fell for just 4 runs.

India’s playing XI included Rohit Sharma (captain), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah. “God, Man I’m Not…” India Coach Rahul Dravid Loses Cool at a Reporter During Press Conference

June 20, 2024, 6:00 pm

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, recently found himself on the defence during a press conference ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 match against Afghanistan. A reporter’s question about his past performance in Barbados, particularly in the 1997 Test match against West Indies, seemed to strike a nerve with Dravid, prompting a visibly irked response.

The exchange went as follows:

Reporter: “Rahul, you as a player, you have played here. Not the best memories of the 97 Test?”

Dravid: “Geez, thanks a lot buddy! I have had some other decent memories here as well.”

Reporter: “That is actually my question. A chance for you to probably make new and much better memories tomorrow?”

Dravid: “God man! I am not trying to make new anything man!”

Dravid’s reaction reflected his annoyance with being reminded of his performance from over 25 years ago, where he scored 78 and 2 in a Test match India lost by 38 runs in Bridgetown, Barbados. He emphasized that he focuses on the present and his role as a coach, rather than dwelling on past playing experiences.

“I move on from things very quickly. That’s one of my things. I don’t look back on things. I try and look at what I am doing now, at the moment. I am not concerned about what happened in ’97 or some other year,” Dravid clarified.

He emphasized his current role and mindset, stating, “I don’t think of myself much as a player anymore. Yeah, just move on. Focus on tomorrow, and try and get a good result tomorrow.”

Dravid’s remarks underscore his commitment to focusing on coaching and the upcoming challenges with the Indian team, rather than revisiting past sporting disappointments. His reaction, while terse, reflects his determination to stay focused on the task at hand and maintain a forward-looking perspective in his coaching career.

“Preparing for This in the Same Way We Do Against Pakistan…”: Indian Coach Dravid Ahead of T20 WC Opener Against Ireland

June 4, 2024, 5:12 am

India head coach Rahul Dravid emphasized the importance of not underestimating any opponent ahead of their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 opener against Ireland. Dravid stated that the team is preparing for the match with the same intensity as they would for encounters against cricket powerhouses like Pakistan or Australia.

Acknowledging Ireland’s recent victory over Pakistan and their experience in T20 cricket, Dravid stressed the need for thorough preparation and respect for their opponents. He emphasized that in the T20 format, every team poses a challenge, and complacency is not an option.

Regarding the logistical challenges of the tournament, including extensive travel from the USA to the Caribbean after the group stage, Dravid maintained a pragmatic stance, stating that all teams face similar schedules. Despite the tight calendar and demanding travel itinerary, Dravid expressed the team’s readiness to face the challenges head-on and focus on delivering their best cricket.

Dravid also addressed the team’s high rating by experts and former players, acknowledging India’s strength but highlighting the competitiveness of other teams in the tournament. He recognized that while India is a formidable side, there are several other strong contenders, making the competition tough.

As India gears up to commence their T20 World Cup campaign, Dravid’s words underline the team’s commitment to approaching every match with utmost seriousness and determination, with the ultimate goal of ending their ICC trophy drought. Ricky Ponting, CSK Coach Among Top Contenders for India Head Coach

May 16, 2024, 3:57 pm

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is on the lookout for a new head coach for the men’s cricket team as Rahul Dravid’s tenure will conclude after the T20 World Cup 2024. Dravid, reportedly, has been reluctant to reapply for the position, indicating a desire to spend more time with family. Despite speculations, the BCCI remains opposed to adopting a system like South Africa, Pakistan, and England, which segregate coaching duties between red-ball and white-ball cricket due to India’s unified player group across formats.

While initial rumors pointed to VVS Laxman as a potential successor, he has shown no inclination to apply, intending to continue with the India ‘A’ team. The race for the head coach position includes former Australian cricketer Justin Langer, along with other prominent names like Stephen Fleming, Gautam Gambhir, and Ashish Nehra. BCCI has also been engaging with IPL coaches and mentors in their pursuit of finding a new head coach.

Among the contenders, Ricky Ponting emerges as a frontrunner, although his involvement with the Washington Freedom in the USA’s Major League Cricket presents scheduling challenges. With India’s upcoming series in Zimbabwe and Ponting’s commitments in the MLC, finalizing a decision poses a significant hurdle for the BCCI and Ponting.

Other potential options include Stephen Fleming, renowned for his coaching stint with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. As Dravid’s contract approaches its end after the T20 World Cup, the BCCI has initiated the application process for the head coach role, with a deadline set for May 27.

BCCI Opens Application: Justin Langer Interested In Replacing Rahul Dravid As India’s Head Coach

May 14, 2024, 12:20 pm

As BCCI opens accepting candidates application for India’s Head Couch on Rahul Dravid’s position, Langer voiced his “curiosity.”

Langer is the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024 and a former opener for Australia.

The BCCI invited applications for the same on Monday night.as Rahul Dravid’s Tenure comes to an end ahead T20 World Cup 2024.

‘Well, I am curious,’ Langer told TOI when asked whether he would apply for the post.

“I’ve never ever thought about it. I have deep respect for any international coach because I understand the pressure, but coaching the Indian team would be an extraordinary role. From what I’ve seen with the amount of talent I’ve seen in this country, it would be fascinating,” he added.

Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, had previously stated that Dravid would need to apply and go through the selection process like any other candidate if he wanted to stay on as the Indian team’s head coach. But that doesn’t seem likely. When Dravid’s contract expired following the ODI World Cup last year, he was already in no mood to continue. Given that the T20 World Cup was only seven or eight months away, he and his entire support team were granted an extension.

Shah also hinted at the possibilty of roping in a foreign coach. The last foreign coach to grace Indian cricket was Duncan Fletcher. Since he stepped down in 2014, India have had three full-time head coaches (all former India cricketers and big names) – Anil Kumble, Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid.

Langer, A Strong Candidate For India Head Coach’s Position

Langer comes with a legacy of 105 Tests, scoring 7696 runs at an average of 45. Moreover, he has successfully coached the Australian team for close to four years and was the protagonist in the revival of Australian cricket after the Sandpapergate in 2018. Under his tenure, Australia also won their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2021.

Langer also has the experience of coaching LSG, an IPL franchise. In his maiden stint as the head coach of an IPL franchise, had a mixed bag. LSG are still in the race of to qualify for the playoffs but questions have been asked about the team’s approach.

“When you’re a player, you have control. You take absolute responsibility for your performance. The only thing that’s out of your control is selection, or what the media writes or what people think of you. You focus only on watching the ball. If you make runs, the only currency of value is runs. If you make runs, you get selected. If you get selected, you get a contract,” Langer said about his debut season as LSG’s head coach.

BCCI To Look for New Indian Coach Ahead of T20 World Cup

May 10, 2024, 5:13 pm

The secretary of BCCI Jay Shah is soon going to start calling for applications, for a new Team India’s coach. As the tenure of Rahul Dravid is coming to an end this June.

Further, the secretary also announced, that the tenure of New Coach is going to be three years.

Later, talking about Rahul Dravid’s continuation as a coach, shah said that the current coach has to reapply if he wants to continue.

“We will call for applications in the next few days. Rahul Dravid’s tenure is coming to an end. He has to reapply if he has to continue. We are looking for a long-term coach, for three years.” said Jay shah.

Speaking more about the coach, BCCI secretary also revealed, that there is no bar on nationality, as a foreign coach too can be considered if it is recommended by the Cricket Committee Advisory.

Thus, ruling out the precedent of appointing different coaches for different formats.

With Shah further disclosing that there has been no history for different coaches in different formats. But he also revealed that ultimately, the decision is taken by cricket advisory committee. It’s his responsibility to implement their decision.

This decision coincides with a time, when an upcoming T20 world cup is already on the cards. The Tournament is going to held between June 2 and 29 under the joint venue of USA and West Indies.

Under west Indies, the matches will be played in Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, St Lucia, St Vincent, the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago. While In USA, Florida, New York and Texas will be a main venue for the match.

But the secretary also clarified that the existing contract of Rahul Dravid will extend until T20 world cup’s conclusion.

Which got extended with the conclusion of ICC ODI world cup 2023 final.

Rahul Dravid said: “India gave themselves a little bit of challenge for World Cup”

November 14, 2023, 1:44 pm

India head coach Rahul Dravid described a very specific goal that the Men in Blue had set for themselves while evaluating his team’s performance in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023.
India is the only team remaining unbeaten in the 2023 World Cup after winning all nine of their group stage matches. In the inaugural World Cup semifinal on Wednesday, Men in Blue will play New Zealand at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
India has been a strong force in the event, save for a few minor hiccups, including being 2/3 against Australia in Chennai and being reduced to 229/9 against England in Lucknow.

Dravid attributed the team’s accomplishments to a particular objective that served as inspiration.
“We presented a small test to ourselves before the World Cup. The fervor of our followers and thousands of supporters in nine distinct places. We genuinely wanted to give it our all and put on a fantastic show. And I believe the boys have done extremely well in responding to that,” Dravid said to Star Sports, as cited by ICC.
India was the only team participating in the World Cup to play its group matches at nine different locations. After their most recent performance in Bengaluru, where they crushed the Netherlands, Dravid was ecstatic.

Rahul Dravid commented, “We had six days off, so it was really nice to get a game before the semi-finals,” as he considered India’s triumphant journey through nine cities. We were fortunate enough to have what we needed, if only to clear the cobwebs. Our five batters are getting in there and getting their first hits. A few youngsters continuing and achieving some quite impressive hundreds.”
He also thought the team benefitted from the ball experimentation.
Additionally, having the ball allowed us to switch things up a bit and consider some other options that, ideally, we won’t need to look at after we scored that large. But we could need it,” the India coach remarked.
Our middle-order has performed admirably, in my opinion. Naturally, our top-order gets to bat frequently and has been very successful in scoring runs for the team. It makes sense that you would see the Sharmas and the Kohlis when you look at the leaderboard on the numbers.

They have been hitting incredibly well and magnificently. However, because you’re constantly playing under pressure, the middle order is essential,” he continue”They don’t always play every single game, sometimes they get to bat after 30 overs when the ball is soft, when the ball is older. The wicket is getting slower as well, and for them to bat the way they are, whether it is Shreyas [Iyer], whether it is KL [Rahul], you know even Jaddu [Ravindra Jadeja] or even Surya [Suryakumar Yadav] in the knock he got. It just gives us the confidence that we’ve got that experience, we’ve got the ability and we’ve also got them in form and playing really well getting into the semi-finals,” Dravid saidd.
