Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Friday responded to the Donald Trump administration’s move to withdraw Harvard University’s eligibility to admit foreign students, terming it as challenging the hopes and futures of international students.

“President Trump’s recent move threatens the dreams and futures of international students at Harvard and beyond. As a proud member of the Harvard community, I wear my colours to show support for inclusion and academic freedom,” Raghav Chadha wrote on X.

“I stand with Harvard and all international students whose dreams and futures are under threat. We must defend academic freedom and global collaboration,” he added.

Last month in March, Raghav Chadha had announced that he was chosen by Harvard University for its session on Global Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st Century from March 5-13.

The administration of US President Donald Trump on Friday withdrew Harvard University’s privilege to accept foreign nationals, casting a shadow over the futures of thousands of students and the valuable revenue stream they generate.

The US Department of Homeland Security’s also accused Harvard University of letting “anti-American, pro-terrorist agitators” attack Jewish students, making its campus unsafe.

The action by Trump’s administration meant Harvard can no longer accept international students, and current foreign students have to leave or forfeit their legal status, it said.

Harvard University sued the Trump administration’s move and contested the decision in court. A judge later suspended Trump’s administration order temporarily, terming the move to be unconstitutional.

Harvard presently admits close to 6,800 foreign students to its Cambridge, Massachusetts campus. Most of these students are for graduate school and come from more than 100 nations.

Delhi is due for assembly elections in February next year, but Mr. Kejriwal has urged for elections to be held earlier, in November, along with the Maharashtra polls. Another prominent name is Raghav Chadha, a Rajya Sabha MP and one of the youngest faces of the AAP. AAP MP Raghav Chadha recently voiced strong criticism against the central government’s decision to remove the indexation benefit for long-term capital gains on the sale of old properties. During a Rajya Sabha session, Chadha described this move as a ‘grave mistake’ and outlined several potential negative consequences.

Indexation benefits, which adjust the cost of assets for inflation, previously allowed investors to reduce their tax liabilities. By removing this benefit, the Union Budget 2024, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, imposes higher taxes on the sale of immovable properties, gold, and other unlisted assets. Chadha argued that this change will lead to a series of adverse effects.

Firstly, Raghav Chadha warned that the removal of indexation will likely decrease investment in the real estate sector. Without this tax relief, potential investors might be deterred, making it harder for people to purchase their ‘dream homes.’ He emphasized that the increased tax burden could disincentivize investment and stifle growth in the real estate market.

Additionally, Chadha expressed concern about the rise in corruption and undervaluation of property transactions. AAP to attend opposition meeting in Bengaluru, says Raghav Chaddha

Following the Congress’ decision to reject the Centre’s law governing the management of administrative services in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stated on Sunday that it will attend the second opposition party gathering, which will be held in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on July 17-18.

AAP MP Raghav Chaddha, while speaking to the media after the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting confirmed the same and said, “As Congress has also made its stand clear on the black ordinance, it is decided that the party under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal will take part in the meeting of like-minded parties in Bengaluru on July 17-18.” The AAP called a PAC meeting of the party on Sunday.

The opposition meeting in Bengaluru is planned to unite the opposition in order to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party in the forthcoming general assembly elections in 2024.
Top leaders from at least 24 political parties are expected to attend Congress’s second Opposition unity meeting in Bengaluru.

Following the first Opposition meeting, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stated that it would be “very difficult” for it to join any alliance that included the grand old party unless the Congress formally condemned the law.
