In a shocking incident, a massive python weighing 80 kilograms and measuring over five meters in length crashed through the roof of a family’s house in Kampung Dew, Kamunting, Malaysia. The moment captured on video has been widely circulated online, leaving viewers stunned.

The New Straits Times reports that the python was probably straying in from an oil palm plantation next door. The incident occurred about 8 PM on November 22, and the family immediately called the Taiping District Civil Defence Force, a component of Malaysia’s civil defense agency, Angkatan Pertahanan Awam or APM.

In a desperate bid to catch the giant snake, rescue officers had to partially demolish the living room ceiling. The viral video starts with a snake catcher using a rod to remove the python. Moments later, the massive reptile falls through the ceiling onto the sofa, leaving viewers petrified as it slithers across the living room.

The python was eventually caught and handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks for proper care.

In a recent study, researchers explored the limits of a Burmese python’s capacity to swallow large prey. Published in the journal ‘Reptiles and Amphibians’ on August 22, the study focused on a female python that weighs approximately 52 kg and measures 14.8 feet in length. Remarkably, the python consumed a white-tailed deer, specifically from the ‘Odocoileus virginianus’ species, which weighed about 35 kg. A striking aspect of this event was how the deer managed to fit into the python’s mouth; the reptile had to stretch its jaws to 93 percent of their capacity.

Ian Barteszek, a wildlife biologist and science coordinator for the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and one of the study’s authors, shared with ‘Live Science’ that witnessing this event felt akin to observing a serial killer at work. He described it as a very strange experience to watch unfold in real-time.

The wild areas of Florida are already known for their large Burmese pythons. For this research, a male python named Ronin was equipped with a tracking device. Barteszek remarked that the scene was the most brutal and heart-stopping sight he had encountered in his twelve years of tracking pythons in Southwest Florida.

According to Barteszek, this python preys on both deer and crocodiles. He emphasized that the observed behavior was exceptionally savage, indicating that such occurrences have been common for millions of years in habitats inhabited by large snakes. He noted that the forests of Florida have not developed top predators capable of threatening various animal species.

Burmese pythons first appeared in the Everglades in the mid-20th century and are considered a threat to Florida’s forest ecosystem. The species was initially sighted in 1979, became fully established during the 1990s, and began preying on local species. With no natural predators to control their population, Burmese pythons have rapidly proliferated, with experts estimating millions now exist in the area, causing significant harm to the local ecosystem and endangering numerous animal species.

The study revealed that it was previously thought a Burmese python could open its mouth to a maximum of about 22 cm. However, by examining three pythons, including the female that preyed on the deer, researchers determined that the actual limit is closer to 26 cm.

Thanat Thangtewanon experienced a chilling ordeal on Tuesday when he felt a sharp pain in his testicles after sitting on the toilet seat. Thangtewanon shared his terrifying experience on Facebook, explaining that he initially felt a painful bite and, in disbelief, reached into the toilet to find a snake attached to his scrotum. Despite his efforts to shake it off, the snake refused to release its grip. In a desperate attempt to free himself, Thangtewanon grabbed a toilet brush and began striking the snake’s head. In a tragic incident in central Indonesia, a woman named Farida, aged 45, was discovered dead inside the belly of a reticulated python on Friday. Farida, a mother-of-four from Kalempang village in South Sulawesi province, had gone missing on Thursday night. Her husband, along with residents of the village, found her inside the five-meter-long snake after a search effort. The villagers became suspicious after finding Farida’s belongings, leading to the discovery of the python with a visibly large belly. Upon cutting open the snake’s stomach, Farida’s fully clothed body was found. While such incidents are rare, they have occurred in Indonesia before.

Last year, an eight-meter python was killed in Southeast Sulawesi after strangling and consuming a farmer. Assam: 100kg Python Rescued and Safely Released in Barnadi Forest

In a joint effort, Assam forest staff, assisted by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans, successfully rescued a 100-kg python in Udalguri district on Wednesday. The reptile was found in the Bogamati Deuchunga area near Bhergaon and later released in the Barnadi forest area.

A Udalguri district forest staff member reported that the python’s safe rescue was accomplished with the support of SSB jawans. “We released it in the Barnadi forest area,” the forest staff mentioned. The python, a significant specimen weighing around 100kg, was handled with care during the rescue operation.

The Assam Forest Department, highlighting its mission, stated, “The Department of Environment and Forests, Assam, is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the environment, safeguarding the state’s forests and wildlife, preserving our rich cultural heritage, and fostering compassion for all living creatures.”
