Security forces uncover and destroy explosives in Pulwama plum orchards

In a significant operation on Sunday, security forces discovered and safely destroyed explosives hidden underground in plum orchards in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Acting on specific intelligence, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Kakapora, renowned for its anti-militancy operations, along with personnel from the 183 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), conducted a search in the orchards of Nihama village. The joint team swiftly located the explosives and took immediate action to neutralize the threat, ensuring the safety of the local populace.

Waheed Ur Rehman Para, the PDP’s Srinagar Lok Sabha candidate, deviated from the official party line and claimed that there had been a significant decline in violence in the former state during the last five years.

After casting a ballot at a Pulwama polling station, Para spoke to reporters and appeared to support the Center’s claim that the Valley had made progress: “Incidents of violence have significantly reduced over the last five years, with the government and administration playing a crucial role in restoring confidence among people to exercise their right to vote.”

Encouraging high voter turnout across the Union Territory (UT), Para emphasized the importance of participation, saying, “It has been five years since the 2019 general elections. Therefore, I urge people to come out in large numbers and choose their representative in the Lok Sabha.”

He further urged the people, media, and the Election Commission to ensure transparent and fair proceedings, stressing the positive engagement of first-time voters and calling on the administration to support democratic processes.

While not explicitly naming the UT administration, Para alleged attempts to disrupt and hinder democratic processes, noting the arrest of some party workers and polling agents during ongoing polling for the 18th Lok Sabha.

Polling is currently underway for the Srinagar parliamentary constituency, marking the first elections in the former state since the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special constitutional privileges to Jammu and Kashmir. Notably, neither the BJP nor the Congress has fielded a candidate for the seat.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP and the National Conference (NC) each secured three seats. Despite being allies in the Opposition bloc–INDIA, the PDP and NC opted to contest the Lok Sabha elections independently in Jammu and Kashmir.

Vote counting for the Lok Sabha in Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere is scheduled for June 4.

Security Forces Neutralize Terrorist in Encounter Operation in Pulwama, Kashmir

Security forces neutralized a terrorist during an operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday, according to police reports. The operation, involving a cordon and search, was initiated in the Fressipora village of the Rajpora area in the district’s southern part, following intelligence about terrorist activity in the vicinity.

The search operation escalated into an encounter when the terrorists opened fire on the forces, who retaliated. The clash resulted in the death of a terrorist, according to the police. Efforts are underway to determine the identity and group affiliation of the deceased, the police further stated.

“Body of one #terrorist retrieved. Identification being ascertained,” the Kashmir Zone Police stated in a post on X.

The police reported that arms, ammunition, and incriminating materials were recovered from the encounter site.

J&K: Dense Fog Hits Srinagar, Minimum Temperature Dips to Minus 3°C

The Kashmir Valley is still experiencing extreme cold and thick fog; on Monday night, Srinagar recorded a low of minus three degrees Celsius. The severe winter weather continues to cause a great deal of suffering and difficulty, especially in the morning.

The freezing temperatures have disrupted normal life, making it challenging for residents and visitors alike. The fog has led to poor visibility on the roads, affecting daily activities. Tourists, like Saurabh Mitra from Kolkata, expressed their difficulties, stating that thick clouds of smoke filled the sky during sightseeing, limiting their movements.

Mitra shared, “Yesterday when we went out sightseeing, a thick cloud of smoke filled the sky everywhere. As soon as we climbed up the Shankar Achraya Temple (Srinagar), the visibility began to drop. We had planned a Shikara ride at Dal Lake, but its visibility was very low.” Despite the excitement of the visit, tourists are eagerly awaiting improved visibility to make the most of their time.

Locals, such as scooter rider Javed Ahmad, emphasized the hazards of navigating amid dense fog. He explained the need to use flashlights on his scooter to see the road and manage traffic with limited visibility, highlighting the challenges faced by commuters.

The Meteorological Centre Kashmir forecasts that dry weather, coupled with moderate to dense fog, will persist over Central Kashmir, Pulwama, and Baramulla until December 31. However, a shift is expected with light rain and snow in scattered places, accompanied by cloudy skies during January 1–2.

As the region enters the forty-day period known as ‘Chillai Kalan,’ characterized by intense and harsh winter lasting from December 21 to January 29, residents and authorities brace for continued weather challenges.

J-K: Three suspects detained along with war-like stores in Pulwama

During a coordinated cordon and search operation by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, three suspected people have been arrested, the Army said on Tuesday. Additionally, two pistols and other war-like stores have been recovered.

In a post on X, the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said that a joint cordon and search operation was launched following “specific intelligence inputs” by the Indian army and Jammu and Kashmir police on December 25 at Panzu and Gamiraj in Pulwama.

“Three suspected individuals have been apprehended with recovery of 02xPistol and other war-like stores,” the Chinar Corps added in the post.
Joint interrogation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police is in progress, it added.

UBT Sena’s Sanjay Raut Calls Poonch Terror Attack a ‘Repeat of Pulwama,’ Opposition Criticizes

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut drew parallels with the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, expressing concern over the government’s response. Raut questioned the motives of the central government and accused them of potential political exploitation. He said, “The government is sleeping. Do you (BJP) again want to do politics on the sacrifice by our jawans? If we ask questions about the Poonch incident, then they will throw us out of Delhi or the country.”

Raut further highlighted the intrusion into Parliament, criticizing the government’s lack of awareness. He raised serious concerns about the recent escalation in soldier casualties and emphasized the need for accountability.

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, echoed the sentiment that terrorism persists in the Union Territory. Following the terrorist attack in Rajouri, Abdullah stated, “…Even today there is terrorism in J&K, there has just been an incident. The attack on two military vehicles in the Thanamandi area of Rajouri resulted in the tragic loss of four Army personnel and injuries to three others. Security has been heightened along the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway in response to the incident.

Having completed her secondary school education, Asiya says her aspirations extended far beyond her own success.
Her vision encompassed the upliftment of her village women, a collective empowerment that would change lives and traditions. It was this visionary spirit that led her to venture into the world of beekeeping, a novel concept in her locality, she said.
Undaunted by the lack of precedent, she said that she sought guidance from the experts of the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM).
Armed with newfound knowledge and an unyielding determination, she embarked on her beekeeping journey.

As with any pioneering endeavor, difficulties arose; however, Asiya’s commitment and tenacity proved unwavering. She diligently studied the art and science of bee farming, turning her fledgling idea into a successful enterprise that produced not only organic honey but also high-quality bee wax. A group of villagers from her village said, “Her honey was not just a product; it was a testament to her dedication and a symbol of purity.”

J&K police foil tragedy, Recover IED from terror suspect

In a recent development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully prevented a major tragedy in Pulwama by arresting a suspected terrorist associate and recovering an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing around 5-6 kg. The police have registered a case into the matter.

“Pulwama Police averted a major tragedy by apprehending a #terror associate Ishfaq Ahmed Wani R/O Arigam #Pulwama and recovering a #IED (approx 5-6Kgs) on his disclosure. Case registered,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

The suspect has been identified as Ishfaq Ahmed Wani, who hails from Arigam in Pulwama. The police have registered a case in the matter. The incident has been hailed as a significant victory for the security forces in the region, as they continue to battle terrorism and maintain law and order.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.

Earlier a massive search operation which began on Friday to hunt down terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri continued on Sunday. “Search operation to track down terrorists underway in the Kandi area of Rajouri,” officials said.

A total of five soldiers lost their lives in the anti-terror operation in the Kandi area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri on May 5.

The five soldiers were killed during the anti-terror ‘Operation Trinetra’ of the Indian Army with Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF.

Kashmiri Pandit killed in Pulwama by Terrorists

A kashmiri Pandit, who was working as a security guard at a bank was shot dead by terrorists in Achan area, Pulwama district, on Sunday morning, a police officer said.

The deceased was identified as Sanjay Sharma, son of Kashinath Sharma. He was working as a security guard, the officer revealed. As per the statement given by officers, security of the area has been tightened and the entire area has been cordoned off to arrest the attackers involved in the case.

While explaining the incident, the Kashmir police stated that the terrorists opened fire on Shrama, while he was on his way to a local market in Achan. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital with the help of locals for treatment, wherein he succumbed to his injuries. The Police are still investigating the matter and further details are awaited.

J&K: Suspicious polythene bag found in Ramban

“A suspicious polythene bag has been found on a bus near Nashri Naka in Ramban,” police said.

Earlier on Thursday in connection with the journalist’s threat case, Srinagar Police conducted raids at seven locations in Srinagar, Budgam, and Pulwama.

“Apropos to our earlier press note dated 19/11/2022 regarding searches conducted by Srinagar Police in the valley in connection with a case pertaining to online threats to scribes, police today again carried out raids at 7 locations in Srinagar, Budgam, and Pulwama,” Jammu and Kashmir press release stated.

Moreover, the special team conducted raids on vital leads obtained from earlier searches.

Asim Munir, mastermind of Pulwama attack, to lead Pakistan’s army

Pakistan’s information and broadcasting minister announced that Lieutenant General Asim Munir would succeed General Qamar Javed Bajwa as head of the Pakistan Army.

Tilak Devasher, a former Special Secretary for the Cabinet Secretariat and a member of the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), claims that Munir was one of the individuals in Pakistan who oversaw the 2019 Pulwama terrorist assault. “The Pulwama incident occurred while he (Lt Gen Munir) was DG of the ISI in November, and it took place in February 2019. He also worked in the central areas that had a view of or dealt with Kashmir, an Indian region. “He is, therefore, well-versed in this field,” Devasher stated in an interview.

Following the suicide attack that claimed the lives of 40 members of the CRPF when their convoy was ambushed on the Jammu Srinagar highway on February 14, 2019, tensions between India and Pakistan grew.

Lt Gen Munir is anticipated to succeed 61-year-old Bajwa as Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), as Bajwa is set to retire on November 29.

General Munir’s appointment as the new head of Pakistan’s armed forces will have an impact, according to Devasher, “No army chief of Pakistan has been friendly towards India. So, Asim Munir is not going to break the mould. He will continue to have a hardline stance towards India.”
Devasher said, “If problems in Pakistan escalate and he has the experience. It’s quite likely, India should have to be prepared that he is going to be… and he has this thing on Pulwama. So, we need to be very careful on this particular score.”

India has been keenly monitoring the situation because it is anticipated that the new Pakistani Army chief will have an impact on the government’s position on relations between Islamabad and New Delhi as well as Pakistan’s policy toward its “all-weather friend” China and the United States.

Devasher claims that four or five army chiefs were appointed during the PML-N government’s rule in Pakistan without regard to seniority in the armed forces.

J&K: Migrant laborer shot by terrorists in Pulwama

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday said a migrant laborer was shot by terrorists in Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The victim has been identified as Muneerul Islam who hails from West Bengal. Islam was rushed to the hospital and his condition is currently stable.

Meanwhile, for safety purposes police have cordoned off the area.

However, more details about the incident are awaited.

Earlier in August a Bihar migrant laborer was killed and two others were injured when terrorists hurled a grenade in the Gadoora village of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir.

Moreover, on Wednesday night in the Sopore area of Baramulla district where security forces killed two terrorists.

According to the police, the slain belonged to the banned terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Police said that both the slain terrorists were associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed. They were planning to attack civilians in Sopore.
