In response, the Delhi government ordered a magisterial probe on Friday to investigate these lapses. Delhi Minister Atishi has demanded a report within 48 hours and requested measures to prevent future incidents.

Asha Kiran, established in 1989 and run by the Delhi government’s social welfare department, has a capacity of 350 people and has faced several controversies over the years due to inmate deaths.

In her order to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, Atishi highlighted reports of the 14 deaths since January, citing health issues and malnutrition, which suggest a lack of necessary facilities for the inmates.

“The government cannot tolerate such lapses if found true,” Atishi stated, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to improve conditions in such homes. She directed the Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue, to start an immediate magisterial inquiry and submit a report within 48 hours, recommending actions against those responsible and preventive measures for the future.

</excerpt>

China’s Chang’e 6 spacecraft has achieved a historic milestone by bringing back rock and soil samples from the far side of the moon. Launched on May 3, the Chang’e 6 probe traveled for 53 days to reach the moon, where it drilled into the lunar surface and collected core samples. The spacecraft landed in northern China’s Inner Mongolian region on Tuesday and was hailed as a complete success by Zhang Kejian, Director of the China National Space Administration, during a televised news conference.

The samples collected by Chang’e 6 are expected to include volcanic rock that is around 2.5 million years old, among other materials. These samples could help scientists understand the geological differences between the moon’s near side, which faces the Earth and has flat plains, and the far side, known for its mountains and craters.

Unlike previous missions by the US and Soviet Union that gathered samples from the near side of the moon, Chang’e 6 is the first to successfully bring back samples from the more difficult far side. This accomplishment demonstrates China’s increasing capabilities in space exploration, amid competition primarily led by the US, and involving countries like Japan and India.

Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the Chang’e team, emphasizing how the mission enhances China’s reputation as a leader in space technology. According to Zongyu Yue, a geologist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the samples are expected to help answer important questions in lunar science, especially about how the moon’s surface formed differently in various areas.

China has been actively exploring the moon in recent years. The Chang’e 5 mission, for example, collected samples from the moon’s near side. With Chang’e 6, scientists also aim to discover evidence of meteorite impacts that could provide insights into the moon’s history.

Now that the spacecraft has safely returned to Earth, scientists will start examining the samples to understand their geological and chemical makeup. This mission marks a major step for China’s space goals and adds important data to global lunar research.

China’s Chang’e 6 mission has made history by retrieving samples from the far side of the moon, advancing our knowledge of lunar geology and boosting China’s standing in the worldwide space community.

</excerpt>

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has instructed a comprehensive investigation into the recruitment processes for state employees over the past five years, following allegations of fraudulent activities related to obtaining government jobs.

In an official statement, the government revealed that certain individuals have allegedly secured positions by submitting counterfeit educational documents and employing proxy candidates to take exams on their behalf. This has prompted the state to launch a thorough review of all recruitments conducted during this period.

“The state government has been informed that in the recruitments made across various departments over the past five years, some candidates have obtained government jobs by presenting fake educational qualification documents and using dummy candidates to sit for the exams,” the order states.

It further states, “Given the seriousness of the issue, each department is required to establish an internal committee to determine whether the individual who took the exam and the person employed as a public servant are the same individuals for employees recruited in the past five years.”

Furthermore, a meticulous examination of the recruited employees’ educational qualification documents, application forms submitted during the application process, as well as their photos and signatures, will also be conducted.

“After the investigation, information regarding employees whose recruitments appear suspicious should be forwarded to the SOG,” the order specifies.

</excerpt>

A day after Delhi Police received a call about a ‘blast’ being heard near the Israel Embassy, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been roped in to investigate the incident.
A team of NIA officials, along with the Delhi Special Cell and Dog Squad, reached the Israeli Embassy on Wednesday morning and initiated a probe into the alleged ‘blast’ call incident.
Meanwhile, Delhi police have zeroed in on two ‘suspects’ after examining the CCTV footage of the area.

Officials have, however, not confirmed the duo’s involvement in the same, sources said on Wednesday.
According to sources, two persons roaming near the Israel embassy on Tuesday evening have emerged as suspects in the alleged ‘blast’ incident.
“Two persons are seen roaming in the area in CCTV footage. Their role in the ‘blast’ call incident is not yet clear. We are trying to ascertain their identity and what were they doing in the area at the time of the call. Things will become clear only after their questioning,” they said.

Now the police are examining CCTVs of nearby areas to find out as to how the two suspects reached there and which route they took. They are also trying to ascertain the identity of the two suspects.
Delhi police found a letter addressed to the Israeli ambassador near the Israel Embassy on Tuesday evening in connection with the ‘blast’ call.
“A letter has been written in English to the Israeli Embassy in which threatening words are used. The group whose name is written on the letter is Sir Allah Resistance,” said sources.
Police are currently examining the letter and are yet to reveal details.

Delhi Police on Tuesday received a call that a ‘blast’ was heard near the Israel Embassy in the Chanakyapuri area, but officials said that nothing as such was found at the spot of the incident.
The call was received by the Delhi Fire Services at around 6 pm.
Soon, the Delhi police crime unit along with fire services and bomb disposal squad reached the spot. Experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team also reached the spot.”The sound of a blast was heard by a security guard standing there,” FSL sources had said.

A security guard standing near the embassy said, “I heard a loud noise at around 5 pm. The noise was similar to a tyre burst. I also saw smoke going up near a tree.” Sources in the special cell however said that no such blast occurred there.
Meanwhile, security in the area has been increased in the area, and police are monitoring through CCTV cameras.

</excerpt>

The West Bengal government has filed a petition with the Supreme Court, challenging the order of the Calcutta High Court. The High Court had declined to grant a stay on the investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding an alleged municipality recruitment scam. The government’s lawyer, Advocate Sunil Fernandes, requested an urgent listing of the plea before a bench comprising justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and KV Viswanathan. Fernandes argued that the accused individuals require protection, as the investigative agencies continue their proceedings.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta objected to the state government’s plea, questioning how a state could file a petition against an order related to a CBI or ED probe. He suggested that such a plea would be more understandable if it were filed by an accused party. The court decided to hear the matter after the vacation period, setting the date for July 3, and instructed the lawyer to mention it again at that time.

In its petition, the West Bengal government challenged the interim order issued on May 22, 2023, by the Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court. The bench had refused to grant interim relief to stay the order passed on April 21 by Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, which was subsequently modified by the judgment dated May 12 issued by Justice Amrita Sinha.

“The Impugned Order while failing to grant stay on the investigation conducted by the CBI and ED relating to the alleged ‘Municipality recruitment scam’, has also proceeded to ignore the law laid down by this Court in a catena of cases,” the plea stated.

In a bizarre incident, a doctor in the Bans Kheri village of Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha allegedly left a towel inside the stomach of a woman. She was admitted to his hospital post labour pain. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Rajeev Singhal has ordered a thorough probe into the case.

The CMO claims that after operating on Nazrana at the Saifee Nursing Home, which he used to manage without authorization in the vicinity of the Naugawana Sadat police station in Amroha, the doctor, Matloob, allegedly left the towel in Nazrana’s stomach. According to the information, Nazrana’s stomach contained a towel due to suspected incompetence on the part of the medical staff. When the patient complained of stomach pain, he kept her in the hospital for an additional five days while claiming that the cold weather was to blame for her discomfort.

After returning home, her husband Shamsher Ali took her to another private hospital in Amroha when her condition did not improve. There, they learned the true cause of Narana’s stomach ache and, following another operation, had the towel removed.

“I came to know about the incident through media reports and have asked nodal officer Dr Sharad to look into the matter. We can give further details only after the investigation is completed,” CMO Singhal said on Tuesday.

However, Shamsher Ali has not lodged any written complaint in the matter, the CMO assured that the investigation will take place.
It is pertinent to mention that the police will start its probe once the report of the CMO investigation comes.

Narottam Mishra, Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday took note of girls who shot an Instagram reel in the Mahakal temple, Ujjain.

Some reels got viral on Instagram in which girls combined Bollywood songs and shot reels on the temple premises and the sanctum sanctorum of Mahakal temple in Ujjain.

“I have instructed the Collector and the SP to investigate the matter. Messing with religious beliefs in any way would not be tolerated,” said Mishra.

It can be seen in the video that a girl shot it while she was performing Jalabhishek in the sanctum sanctorum of the Mahakal temple. While wandering around the temple grounds, the other female recorded the video. A strict actio has been demanded against the girls by the priest of Mahakal temple, Mahesh Guru. After the video went viral , he said “This type of video destroyed the sanctity of the temple. The employees of Mahakal temple were also not fulfilling their responsibility,” citing the videos as derogatory and contrary to the Sanatan tradition.

Mahakal temple in Ujjain is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Clicking pictures is not allowed inside the temple premises as it is against the Sanatani traditon.
