She highlighted national unity, condemned religiously motivated violence, and urged global recognition of India’s efforts to combat terror and promote peace.
</excerpt>

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, who is present in London as part of an all-party delegation after the Pahalgam terror attack, made a caustic remark on Pakistan’s performance on terror, juxtaposing it with India’s success on the world diplomatic stage.

Pointing out the contrasting priorities of the two countries, she said, “We had a very successful presidency of G20. While we host the G20, Pakistan hosts the T20, the top 20 terrorists of the world.” She added further, “The highest terrorists will be seen being hosted by the Pakistani state government. It’s their avowed policy.”

Chaturvedi pointed out that India remains concerned about progress and economic growth, while Pakistan continues to facilitate terror networks. India is focusing on trade, we are focusing on economy, we are focusing on commerce, but they (Pakistan) are focusing on free terrorist arrangement throughout the world. That is what we have to unveil,” she claimed.

She also mentioned the 2011 American raid that killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan, citing it as an instance of Islamabad’s hypocrisy. “You need to return home and watch the documentary on how Osama bin Laden was removed from Pakistan. He was concealed, actively funded, assisted, trained, and enabled, concealed from their so-called friend, the US. They greet you with a handshake, but bite your back,” she said.

Chaturvedi Praises Indian Military

Extolling India’s recent counter-terrorism successes, Chaturvedi hailed Operation Sindoor, in which Indian troops struck nine terror launchpads inside Pakistan on May 7. “You can picture these terrorists were capable of conducting 100 terror operations, not only in India, but worldwide,” she told. “The Indian armed forces could have saved the world from possible threats,” she added. “The world should thank the Indian armed forces for what they did,” she asserted.

She also attacked the internal rhetoric of Pakistan, citing a recent address by then-Army Chief General Asim Munir, given just days before the Pahalgam attack, in which he spoke of differences based on religion. Chaturvedi sharply retorted against this rhetoric of division, “Over 200 million Indian Muslims stood with the Indian government,” she said, reiterating the need for national integration against terrorism.

Remembering the April 22 terror strike where 26 civilians were brutally murdered after they were questioned about their religion, she stated that the attackers had sought to instill division among India.
“They did it in the hope that they would divide this country. India does not stand divided. India stands united, and it’s our diversity that we celebrate, the diversity that brings this unity,” she asserted.

</excerpt>

A controversial clip from a reality show streamed on OTT platform ‘ULLU’ has triggered massive backlash on social media, drawing sharp responses from both ruling and opposition leaders. The viral video, taken from the web series House Arrest hosted by former Bigg Boss contestant Ajaz Khan, shows contestants being asked to discuss and demonstrate Kama Sutra sex positions on camera.

The footage, which quickly circulated online, led Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi to question why the government had not yet banned such platforms. In a post on X, she wrote, “I have raised this in the standing committee that apps such as this, namely, Ullu App and Alt Balaji have managed to escape the ban by I&B ministry on apps for obscene content. I am still awaiting their reply.”

Chaturvedi also reminded that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) had previously banned 18 OTT platforms in March 2024 for streaming “obscene, vulgar, and, in some instances, pornographic content.” She added, “Surprisingly 2 of the biggest apps were kept out—Ullu and Alt Balaji. Will I&B tell the country why were they left out from this ban?”

The uproar comes just days after the Supreme Court, on April 28, issued notices to the Centre, major OTT platforms, and social media companies over a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking regulations on obscene content. A bench comprising Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih called it an “important concern” and sought responses from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Alt Balaji, ULLU, Meta, Google, Apple, and others.

— Dr Nishikant Dubey (@nishikant_dubey) May 1, 2025

BJP MPs Join the Chorus

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey also addressed the issue on X, saying, “This will not work @MIB_India, our committee will take action on this.”

Barun Raj Singh, BJP Yuva Morcha’s Bihar chief, demanded that such shows be removed immediately. “They talk about on camera sex position (sic)… The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting sleeps with its eyes closed. Such shows should be stopped immediately,” he wrote, tagging I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and urging him to “save our children.”

Netizens React Strongly

Social media erupted in criticism over the vulgarity of the show. One user commented, “Damn, how low the TV shows have stopped (sic) to.” Another wrote, “What… is this? It’s neither funny, nor entertaining and not even porn. Something is weirdly wrong with producers and directors nowadays where crass is seen as desirable.”

Not the First Time OTT Has Sparked Controversy

This controversy follows a similar uproar earlier this year involving influencer and podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia. He faced police complaints and legal trouble after making a remark on sex and parents during a now-deleted comedy show, India’s Got Latent. The Supreme Court granted him interim relief but criticised his statement, calling it “vulgar” and saying he had a “dirty mind”.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is yet to respond officially to the demands for a ban on the ULLU platform and a broader regulatory framework for OTT content.

</excerpt>

Following Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh’s release on bail by the Supreme Court, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized the BJP, alleging misuse of central agencies to suppress opposition leaders. She further stated that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been transformed into the Extortion Department of the BJP.

Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “I welcome the decision of the Supreme Court. This shows that the BJP is misusing the central agencies to suppress and politically arrest opposition leaders. Sanjay Singh has got bail and he can get involved in his party affairs also. Enforcement Directorate has knelt down before BJP. ED has been reduced to the Extortion Department and an Extended Department of the BJP.”

Additionally, she mentioned that once he is released, he will express his perspective to the public.

“The BJP is afraid that it won’t cross 200 seats so it is using ED to arrest opposition leaders. CM Arvind Kejriwal has been elected by the people twice by a huge mandate. In Punjab the AAP is running a government. He is running the party since last 10 years and won two important states and still he is being treated in this way. Constitution does not stop him from performing his duties as CM,” she further said.

Earlier in the day, a bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna instructed the release of Sanjay Singh on bail while the trial in the money laundering case concerning irregularities in the excise policy is ongoing.

ED notified the apex court that it had no opposition to Singh being granted bail. The court noted that Sanjay Singh had spent six months in custody. He was detained by the Enforcement Directorate on October 4, 2023, in connection with the case. According to the ED, Sanjay Singh was accused of establishing a special purpose vehicle to launder the proceeds of crime linked to business resulting from the policy alterations, as allegedly plotted by him and his co-conspirators.

</excerpt>

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said on Friday that the arrests in the nearly three-month-old video of two women being paraded naked by a mob in Manipur are only a “face-saver to show that there exists a law and order.”

She further stated that the police are only acting because the video became viral, not because a FIR was filed in the case on May 18. “On May 18, a FIR was filed, and it was a zero FIR.” I’m sure the cops had this video, but we’ve been sitting on it since May 18 and haven’t done anything about it.

“They have now taken action because the video has gone viral,” Shiv Sena (UBT) leader remarked.

She said, “Biren Singh himself stated yesterday that around 100 FIRs similar to this have been registered so far… what about the other 100 women and their FIRs?”

“Now the arrest, in this case, is just a face-saver to show that there exists a law and order,” Chaturvedi said.

While addressing the media ahead of the start of parliament’s monsoon session on Thursday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took note of the heartbreaking footage.

He expressed his sorrow over the occurrence, calling it “shameful for any civil society.”

“No accused will be spared, and we will never forgive those who are behind this,” Prime Minister David Cameron stated.

The incident also shook the first day of Parliament’s Monsoon session, disrupting proceedings in both Houses.

Priyanka Chaturvedi, a Shiv Sena member of Parliament (MP), asked that records of documented history be declassified in a letter to the Union Culture Ministry on Monday. She argued that failing to update such material would encourage people to use an “imagined history,” which she called “disastrous.”

The MP said her letter, addressing Union culture and tourism minister G Kishan Reddy, was in reference to a recent observation made by director-general of the National Archives of India (NAI) wherein it was said that no records of the wars of 1962, 1965, 1971 as well as Green Revolution are maintained with the NAI.

“This highlights the need for enhancing transparency and accessibility of records to the general public, academicians, and researchers by declassifying information of historical importance under the Public Records Act, 1993 and liberal application of the colonial legislations such as Official Secrets Act, 1923,” the MP said.

Chaturvedi while hailing the defence ministry’s decision to declassify important war records older than 25 years suggested, “The Committee formed for the review and study of such documents may be kept free of bureaucratic control depending on the sensitivity of the subject matter concerned.”

A number of governmental ministries and departments are required to transfer records that are more than 25 years old to the NAI in accordance with the Public Records Act of 1993, unless they relate to classified material. However, determining what material is classified is left to the different ministries and departments.

Underlining that records management in government is an essential aspect of good governance, Sinha said there are several ministries that have not shared their records with the NAI since independence and that the NAI has only records of 64 agencies, including 36 ministries and departments.

The records of enduring importance belonging to the Indian government are kept by the National Archives of India. The Imperial Record Department was founded on March 11, 1891 in Calcutta (now Kolkata), and today it is the largest archival repository in South Asia.

</excerpt>

In response to the government’s plea to the court about the collapse of the Morbi bridge, which claimed the lives of 135 people, Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi questioned whether it was the will of God or willful fraud. She referenced a report in which Deepak Parekh, a manager for the Oreva company in charge of maintaining the bridge, was quoted as claiming that the terrible tragedy was “God’s will.”

The prosecution on Tuesday told the court that the contractors who carried out repairs of the bridge were not qualified for such a job. It also submitted in the court that while the floor of the bridge was replaced, the cable was not repaired and it could not take the weight of the heavier flooring of four-layers aluminium sheets.

Two managers from the Oreva company and two subcontractors who had rebuilt the bridge made up four of the nine people detained and were placed in police custody. The other five, which included ticket salesmen and security guards, have been placed in judicial custody.

Since it was discovered that the Oreva Group manufactures wall clocks and e-bikes, the responsibilities of the Oreva Group and the local authorities have come under scrutiny. The maintenance of the bridge was committed to this corporation, nonetheless, by the local authorities.

On October 26, the bridge was opened to the public, and the Oreva organisation stated they had hired professionals to fix the bridge. The main officer of the Morbi municipality, Sandipsinh Zala, alleged that the corporate house had not obtained a clearance certificate from the local government before opening the bridge.

Jaysukh Patel is the managing director of Oreva.

“So it was the Will of God the contractor did not repair/replace the rusted cable, the contractors were not qualified engineers, one of the managers overseeing the bridge contract was not an engineer but a media manager in the company. This is wilful fraud, not will of god,” Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote.

The Shiv Sena MP and former Congress leader, Priyanka Chaturvedi, gave a taunting remark at the BJP for its criticism of Rahul Gandhi’s Rs 41,000 Burberry t-shirt and said only if the BJP could have calculated so fast the cost of ‘electing the suit-book sarkar’.

Congress leader, Pawan Khera, who is with Rahul Gandhi in his 150-day Bharat Jodo Yatra, took a swipe at the RSS and tweeted, “Nikkarwale will only see the t-shirt.” “One t-shirt has brought up coat, shawl, watch, pen, glasses, car, ship and bungalow.”

The BJP started the debate on Friday by tweeting Rahul Gandhi’s photo and a photo of the t-shirt with the price written on it and wrote “Bharat dekho”. The Congress retorted and said if the debate is now over the price of clothes, then PM Modi’s suit worth Rs 10 lakh and glasses worth Rs 1.5 lakh will also be dragged.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “Today they are raising questions on our containers, on our leader’s t-shirt, tomorrow they will raise questions on my branded canvas shoes or on my socks, on baniyan and underwear. Is this the level of political debate that Mr. Narendra Modi wants in our country? We are talking about price rises, unemployment, hum do hamare do, polarisation. This is nothing but the BJP’s agenda of diversion. They just want to divert attention from this hugely positive Bharat Jodo Yatra that has evoked so much enthusiasm not only among Congress workers but among people across the country.”

The containers arranged for the night stay of the yatris have also come in for criticism because of their “luxury,” though the party said the amenities available in the containers are minimum.

Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has urged PM Narendra Modi to bring back the ashes of Netaji Subhas Chandra to India. Sena MP wrote a letter to PM Modi in view of the leader’s death anniversary on 18 August.

“As we celebrate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and pledge to take pride in our heritage as a part of the ‘Panchpran’, I am writing the letter to you in support of the request of Ms. Anita Bose Pfaff, daughter of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, to bring his last remains back to India,” Chaturvedi wrote in letter.

Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi on August 16 and urged him and MEA on the solemn occasion of Subhash Chandra Bose's death anniversary to bring Netaji’s ashes back home pic.twitter.com/ipovzj4gHJ
— ANI (@ANI) August 18, 2022

Chaturvedi further said marking EAM S Jaishankar, “It shall be our greatest honour to commemorate Netaji’s sacrifice and dedication towards independence of India by fulfilling his last wish of returning to the Indian soil.”

“I request you to make a note of the request of Ms. Anita Bose Pfaff and expeditiously take all such diplomatic and other measures to bring Netaji home and duly acknowledge his insurmountable contributions in India’s freedom struggle. This shall indeed be a true tribute to our forefathers who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom,” Chaturvedi wrote.

“On the solemn occasion of Subhas Chandra Boseji’s death anniversary, I urge the Prime Minister of India & MEA to bring Netaji’s ashes back home. Even his daughter has appealed that it should be done, as that was what the great freedom fighter desired,” Chaturvedi added in the letter.

However, in 1945 Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose died in a plane crash in Taiwan.
