</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Trinidad and Tobago on Friday for a two-day official visit. This marked the second leg of his ongoing foreign tour.

Kamla Persad-Bissessar Called “Bihar ki Beti”

While addressing the Indian community in Port of Spain, Modi referred to Trinidad’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar as “Bihar ki Beti.” He noted her ancestral roots trace back to Buxar, Bihar. Currently, around 45% of Trinidad and Tobago’s population has Indian ancestry.

Encouraging connection, Modi told the diaspora, “Visit the villages of your ancestors… Bring your children and neighbors… We will welcome all of you with open arms, warm hearts and Jalebi.”

Traditional Welcome for PM Modi

Upon arrival, Modi received a warm and colorful welcome. PM Kamla and her ministers, dressed in traditional Indian outfits, greeted him at the airport. Moreover, the Guard of Honour played Bhojpuri Chautaal music. Later, Modi shared a video online, writing, “Bhojpuri Chautaal echoes in Trinidad & Tobago!”

#WATCH | Port of Spain: Prime Minister Narendra Modi presents holy water of Sangam and Saryu River from Maha Kumbh and a replica of Ram Mandir to the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

Celebrating Cultural Bonds

To deepen cultural ties, Modi gifted a replica of the Ram Mandir and sacred water from Ayodhya’s Sarayu River and the Mahakumbh Sangam. While speaking at a community event in Couva, he said, “The Indian diaspora is our pride… Each one of you is a Rashtradoot — an Ambassador of India’s values, culture and heritage.”

In addition, he announced that sixth-generation families of Indian origin would now be eligible for OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) cards. He emphasized, “We aren’t just connected by blood or surname. You are connected by belonging.”

Notably, this visit marked Modi’s first trip to Trinidad and Tobago as Prime Minister and the first visit by an Indian PM since 1999.

Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s Bihar Roots

Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Trinidad and Tobago’s first female Prime Minister, has deep ancestral ties to India. Her great-grandfather migrated from Bhelupur in Bihar during British rule as a Girmitiya laborer. In fact, Kamla visited her ancestral village in 2012, where locals gave her a heartfelt welcome.

Modi recalled this connection in his speech and said, “Kamla ji’s ancestors lived in Buxar, Bihar. She herself has visited there. People proudly call her Bihar ki Beti.”

Her Journey from Teacher to Prime Minister

Kamla began her career as a teacher at Lakshmi Girls’ Hindu College. Later, she studied law in England and entered politics in 1987. By 1995, she became an MP. She held key roles like Education Minister, Attorney General, and finally, Prime Minister in 2010.

Deep Indian Presence in Trinidad and Tobago

The India-Trinidad link goes back over 175 years. Between 1845 and 1917, the British brought around 143,000 Indians to work on sugar plantations. Most came from today’s Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, traveling from Calcutta and Madras ports.

Although these workers faced hardship, poverty, and isolation, they gradually found their place in society. By the early 20th century, Indians became active in business, politics, and culture.

Today, Indians form 40–45% of the population. Celebrated figures like Nobel laureate VS Naipaul came from this community. Dr Eric Williams, Trinidad’s first PM, had personal ties with Nehru. They met in Oxford and reunited in Delhi in 1961.

Cultural Traditions Live On

Despite being far from India, Indo-Trinidadians have kept their culture alive. Festivals like Diwali, Holi, Ram Navami, and Navratri remain important.

Modi summed up their legacy, saying, “They left Ganga and Yamuna behind, but carried the Ramayana in their hearts… They were not just migrants. They were messengers of a timeless civilisation.”

Later, the Indian diaspora greeted Modi at his hotel. They raised slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Modi, Modi.” An orchestra played, and a group performed bhajans (devotional songs).

Celebrating Shared Culture

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke over the phone for 35 minutes with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, during which he made it clear that India’s counter-terror operation, Operation Sindoor, continues unabated.

Informing the press following the high-level conversation, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated, “President Trump and Prime Minister Modi spoke for about 35 minutes today. During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi told President Trump that India would respond to Pakistan’s bullets with shells. He emphasised that Operation Sindoor is still underway.”

No Trade Talks While Terror Looms: Modi

During the call, Prime Minister Modi firmly asserted that India will not participate in trade negotiations while counter-terror operations are ongoing.

“Prime Minister Modi made it clear to President Trump that India would not engage in any trade negotiations amid ongoing terrorist threats, and that India’s fight against terrorism would continue,” Misri said.

Modi also recalled President Trump of his previous talk with US Vice President JD Vance on May 9, where Vance had cautioned India about a possible attack by Pakistan. In response, India moved quickly on the evening of May 9–10, conducting a counterattack that reportedly destroyed Pakistani military installations.

The Prime Minister disclosed that Pakistan subsequently asked for a ceasefire via direct military links, admitting the success of India’s response.

India Dismisses Third-Party Mediation on Pakistan Matters

Modi firmly rejected any proposal of third-party mediation in the telephone conversation with Trump.

He said that India never accepted, and will never accept, foreign intervention in issues related to Pakistan. “There was no talk or role of the United States in any mediation,” he informed Trump, reiterating India’s established diplomatic policy.

Subsequently, at the G7 Outreach Summit in Canada, PM Modi asked world leaders to come together against terrorism, as he criticized nations that employ selective methods to fight it.

“There should be no place for double standards on terrorism. The terrorist attack that happened on 22nd April was not only an attack on Pahalgam, but also on the soul, identity, and dignity of every Indian. It was an attack on the entire humanity,” Modi asserted.

Despite headlines calling her the “woman behind the mission,” she humbly credits thousands of engineers, labourers, and officials for achieving the feat.
</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Chenab Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, last Friday. As the nation celebrated the feat, Professor G Madhavi Latha, a long-time contributor, credited thousands of “unsung heroes” and urged people not to make her “unnecessarily famous.”

“I salute the millions of unsung heroes,” said Dr Latha, who was a geotechnical consultant to Afcons, the engineering firm that constructed the bridge. “My role was to help in developing slope stabilisation schemes and design of foundations on slope,” she added in a message on LinkedIn shared after the inauguration.

Rejects Media Claims of Being the ‘Woman Behind the Mission’ of Chenab Bridge

Dr Latha, who has been involved with the Chenab Bridge for 17 years, spoke about the headlines that described her as the “woman behind the mission” and one who performed “miracles to build the bridge.” She called them “baseless.”

“Please don’t make me unnecessarily famous,” she said. “I am one of the thousands who deserve appreciation for the Chenab Bridge.”

Inspiration to Young Girls and Civil Engineers Across India

Currently attending a conference in Spain, the professor from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, thanked those who sent congratulatory messages. “Many fathers have written to me saying that they want their daughters to become like me. Many young kids have written to me that they now want to take up Civil Engineering as their career choice,” she said.

“All glory belongs to Indian Railways,” she added, and appreciated the Indian Railways and Afcons for their execution of what many called an impossible task.

Design-as-You-Go Approach Helped Tackle Geological Challenges

A leading geotechnical engineer, Dr G Madhavi Latha is a Higher Administrative Grade (HAG) professor at the IISc, Bengaluru. Construction of the Chenab Bridge, part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL), faced significant challenges due to difficult terrain, seismic risks, and unpredictable geology. Dr Latha and her team helped the project navigate these complexities with a “design-as-you-go” approach.

This meant adapting to real-time findings like fractured rocks and hidden cavities, factors that earlier surveys had missed. Additionally, Dr Latha provided guidance on rock anchor design and slope stability, which are elements crucial for a structure of this scale.

Academic Contribution Documented in Prestigious Journal

She also detailed her technical journey in a paper titled ‘Design as You Go: The Case Study of Chenab Railway Bridge’, published in the Indian Geotechnical Journal’s special women’s issue.

Standing 359 metres above the Chenab River, the bridge rises 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower. Moreover, Indian Railways built it for ₹1,486 crore, making it the tallest railway arch bridge in the world. In fact, the government calls it the biggest civil-engineering challenge Indian Railways has ever tackled. Engineers expect the bridge to significantly boost connectivity in the Kashmir Valley, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime project.

Vande Bharat Express begins June 7, offering fast and weather-resistant travel.
</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the first passenger train to Srinagar, a historic achievement for the railway connectivity of Jammu and Kashmir. The Vande Bharat Express from Katra to Srinagar is set to start full operation on June 7 (Saturday) and put an end to the region’s long history of depending on road transport.

This marks PM Modi’s first visit to the union territory since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. During the visit, he will also inaugurate the iconic Chenab Bridge — the world’s highest railway arch bridge — further boosting connectivity in the Himalayan region.

Four Daily Trips Between Katra and Srinagar

Indian Railways has scheduled four round trips from Katra to Srinagar on two Vande Bharat Express trains. Train number 26401 will leave Katra at 8:10 AM and arrive in Srinagar by 11:08 AM. It will leave Srinagar at 2:00 PM and arrive at Katra by 4:58 PM.

Earlier, tourists depended completely on highway connections between Srinagar and Jammu, frequently affected by monsoons and landslides. The new railway facility reduces journey time to almost three hours and gives travelers a more reliable means of transport.

Designed for Harsh Terrain and Weather

The Vande Bharat Express trains plying on this route have advanced anti-freezing features so that the operations can go on smoothly even under harsh winter conditions. Railway authorities have furnished the coaches with heating facilities, bio-toilets that withstand freezing temperatures, and upgraded passenger services such as 360-degree rotating seats and charging stations.

Developed specially for the harsh weather of Kashmir, the train provides safe and unhindered journeys even under snowfall or below-zero temperatures.

Vande Bharat: Affordable Travel with Modern Comfort

Authorities have competitively fixed the fares in the Vande Bharat Express on this corridor. Chair car tickets will be Rs 715, while executive class seats cost Rs 1,320. The initiative will help locals and tourists alike, boosting regional tourism and activity.

This latest infrastructure milestone symbolizes the central government’s ongoing thrust to enhance Jammu and Kashmir’s connectivity and development.

These included railway works and other schemes by the Gujarat government.

He also flagged off two trains — the Vande Bharat Express between Veraval and Ahmedabad and another express train between Valsad and Dahod.

PM greets Vadodara in morning roadshow

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister held a roadshow in Vadodara. Crowds gathered with Indian flags and shouted slogans as Modi waved at them. Many people showered flower petals while patriotic songs played in the background.

Expressing his gratitude on social media, Modi wrote on X, “Thank you, Vadodara! </excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed a firm message to the United States that India will respond decisively to any action taken by Pakistan. According to sources, Modi made it clear that India does not feel obligated to offer any off-ramp or de-escalation option in case of aggression from Pakistan.

The message came during a conversation between US Vice President JD Vance and PM Modi, amid rising tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that claimed 26 civilian lives. Sources confirmed that while Pakistan sought an “acceptable offer,” there was no mention of nuclear weapons during the discussion.

Operation Sindoor and India’s military posture

India has been carrying out Operation Sindoor since May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation includes precision strikes aimed at eliminating leaders of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) with minimal civilian damage.

Indian airstrikes on May 9 and 10 were part of this mission, striking critical military sites including airbases in Rafiqui, Murid, Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Chunian, as well as radar stations in Pasrur and Sialkot.

Indian response to Pakistan’s drone attacks

The situation escalated when Pakistan launched drone attacks targeting Indian territory. In swift retaliation, India responded with airstrikes on Pakistani military infrastructure. Indian forces successfully neutralized incoming missile and drone threats, showcasing high-level preparedness.

India rejects third-party mediation

After the Indian strikes, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio contacted Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Rubio relayed Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir’s willingness to negotiate. However, India made it clear that any talks must happen directly between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries, not through third-party channels.

Sources highlighted India’s stance: “We don’t want anyone to mediate. Only our DGMO should speak to their DGMO — not Americans, not back channels.”

India’s firm stand on Kashmir

Sources reaffirmed that India’s position on Kashmir remains unchanged. The only point of discussion is the return of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Any talks, India stated, must be focused on handing over wanted terrorists.

Operation Sindoor is now seen as establishing a “new normal” in India’s counter-terror strategy — one that involves precise, proactive, and uncompromising military action.

Although precipitate, this move seems influenced by mounting anxieties at home and shifting tides in world affairs.

Although there has been no official announcement spelling out the exact reasons, sources in the government indicate that the decision is in response to increased regional security threats and the aftermath of the latest Pahalgam terror strike.

The Prime Minister Modi will likely give priority to internal security analysis and strategic military coordination in the weeks ahead.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi arrived in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, after concluding his visit. Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake saw him off at the Colombo airport.

After landing in India, PM Modi inaugurated the New Pamban Bridge in Rameswaram. It is the country’s first vertical lift sea bridge. The structure stretches 2.07 kilometres across the Palk Strait. It connects the Indian mainland with Rameswaram island.

According to the Ministry of Railways, this bridge stands as a symbol of India’s engineering strength and visionary planning.

Meanwhile, in Ayodhya’s Ram Janmabhoomi temple, devotees celebrated Ram Navami with a rare celestial event. At exactly noon, a beam of sunlight lit up the forehead of Ram Lalla’s idol. This formed the Surya Tilak, a symbolic mark made by the sun’s rays.

Visuals from the temple showed priests offering prayers during the moment.

Ram Setu, also called Adam’s Bridge, is a 48-kilometre chain of limestone shoals. It connects Rameswaram island in India to Mannar island in Sri Lanka.

According to Hindu cultural, Lord Ram built this bridge to reach Lanka and rescue his wife Sita, as described in the Ramayana. It remains a sacred site for many and holds cultural and spiritual importance.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s podcast with MIT researcher, geopolitical and tech expert Lex Fridman has gone viral. The podcast lasted three hours and 17 minutes and touched topics as diverse as geopolitical, spiritual, personal and political. Fridman called it ‘one of the most powerful and moving conversations of my life.’
Recent guests on Fridman’s show – which has 4.6 million subscribers – have included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Argentinian President Javier Milei. This conversation is in keeping with the sort of freewheeling candid interactions the Prime Minister has indulged in recently, the latest being the podcast with Nikhil Kamath.

However what was interesting about the Fridman podcast was that nothing was off the table, not even the 2002 post Godhra riots in Gujarat. It is interesting to see the way the Prime Minister conducted himself throughout the interview because the message is often in the medium. Before answering the question on the riots (which took place when Modi was the Chief Minister) he first brought in the geopolitical context of global terrorism as well as the fact that as many as 250 riots had already taken place in Gujarat prior to 2002, and none took place after that. That being said he moved on to other topics, from Trump to China and clearly that is what the interview was all about, the positioning of India (and himself) as the elder statesman of the world. He spoke about our cultural legacy, spiritual heritage and India’s place in the world. Here again the context becomes important, this is the Prime Minister’s third term and he has made no bones of the fact that he is aiming for a fourth. But his focus now has shifted from the domestic to the international. Of course he is on the lookout for a legacy – and this is a good time to pitch for one at a time when the world is redefining itself.
However given the variety of subjects covered – and this included his relations with the RSS – it was clear the PM was using the global platform to send out a message, not just globally but also inwards within India. And judging by the positive feedback, from Trump to China, it does seem as if the three hours were not spent in vaim. Again , no surprises there for there is a reason why the PM is called the Master of the Message.

</excerpt>

In India, a visiting head of state is generally received by either a Cabinet Minister or Secretary to the Government of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally receiving the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, by breaking protocols reflects the significance of Qatar for India. Mr Al Thani’s visit to India takes place at a time when the geopolitics around the world are rapidly experiencing Trumpification.
Qatar has more than 25% or 8 lakh Indians, which is approximately more than 31% of the total non-Qataris population (85%). Such a large number of the Indian diaspora living in Qatar plays a significant role in bridging a decade-long bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Context
In the wake of Modi’s recent visit to the USA and Trump’s announcement to increase the export of LNG to India, the shifting market dynamics may have forced Mr Al Thani to schedule a state visit to India. Qatar is very much aware of the fact that India, to avoid US tariffs, might be shifting its interest from the Gulf(Qatar) to the US. Mr Al Thani also knows it very well that the Indian Foreign policy is largely guided by the interest of the Indian people, and hence, the Indian foreign policy is there to serve the Indian people first. As Qatar’s total revenue is mostly dependent on its hydrocarbon, Donald Trump’s recent announcement surfaces at a time when Qatar is already the number one import destination of LNG for India
Therefore, keeping the already declining bilateral trade volume with India ($18.7 billion in 2022-23 to $14 billion in 2023-24), Qatar has signed many agreements with India during this visit to double the bilateral Trade volume to $28 billion in the next five years.
As both countries have signed to expedite negotiations on the Bilateral Investment Treaty, Qatar’s commerce ministry has officially announced that Qatar and India are going to be the third largest trading partner soon. However, it is now going to be very interesting to see how India will be playing smart to double its bilateral trade simultaneously with the USA($500 billion) and Qatar($28 billion) in the next five years.
Qatar’s assurance of investing $10 billion in India in the next few years through Qatar Investment Authority (worth over $526 billion) is a significant mark towards promoting the Make in India initiative. In order to double the bilateral trade by 2030, both countries have agreed to enter into the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). When the world is completely embroiled in tariff wars, this initiative has given a clear message to the Trump administration that India and Qatar are against the tariff war and are rather committed to encouraging trade through the elimination of tariffs.
As per the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), India and Qatar have agreed to aggressively focus on intellectual property rights that will possibly promote the innovation of culture between the two countries in the future. Under CEPA, this bilateral agreement has additionally the potential to mobilise labour mobility from India to Qatar.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also said during the meeting, “We are now looking at a new future where we will transition from energy being the hallmark of our trade to new age technologies, whether it is Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Quantum Computing, or semiconductors.” This is a clear message to even Qatar that India is not only going to import hydrocarbon from Qatar, but India would also be exporting what it is good at. Rather than just emptying its treasury in the purchase of oil and gas from Qatar, India is also planning to showcase and export its tech strength to Qatar. Doing so would not just promote the expansion of Indian goods and services in Qatar but also help India trade off a significant amount of import values with Qatar. As India is approaching Vision 2047, its objective is not only to fulfil its energy needs but also to project its Vision of Vikshit Bharat. For that matter, India needs to work more on reducing its overall Current Account Deficit(CAD) by becoming an export-oriented country as soon as possible. In this scenario, it would not be wrong to assume that the FTA under CEPA will strategically and largely go in favour of India, as India is an emerging nation in the field of tech industries.

While PM Modi welcomed the Qatar National Bank’s expansion in India with the establishment of an office in GIFT City, Mr Al Thani has also ensured the nationwide implementation of UPI services in Qatar soon. When the UPI services are fully under process in Kuwait after UAE, the recent bilateral talk between Emir Al Thani and PM Modi has ensured that Qatar will be the next destination of India’s digital payment system, UPI, in the Gulf.
Both countries aim to double their trade to $28 billion by 2030. Once India’s proposed UPI services are fully implemented in Qatar, both countries will have the option to switch to smoothly trade in local currencies. This step will certainly help India and Qatar to reduce their reliance on the dollar in the future.

India’s strengthening relationship with Qatar may provide an added advantage to India to keep track of the unfolding geopolitical dynamic in the region. Furthermore, as India, in recent times, continues to deepen its bilateral relations with Kuwait, Iran and the Taliban, Qatar, sitting on one of the most important choke points in the Persian Gulf, will exponentially boost India’s geopolitical significance in the region, as both the countries have also signed an intelligence-sharing framework during this visit.
In contemporary times, many refer to Qatar as a deal country where several deals can frequently be seen taking place. Qatar, being one of the most important players in the Middle East, shares strong relations with not just the USA but almost all other countries located in that region. Engaging with Qatar will not just help India fulfil its energy needs but also provide an opportunity to diplomatically connect with many countries around the globe, primarily the Middle Eastern countries. Therefore, the deepening ties with Qatar is a win-win situation for India in every dimension.

Geopolitics of Hydrocarbon
As Israel is gaining momentum in post-Assad West Asia, gradually creating an image of a net security provider in the region, Donald Trump’s venture into the hydrocarbon market can also be seen as a step towards weakening the anti-Israeli countries in the region. As the Middle East’s economy significantly depends on the oil and gas market, the resource-rich USA’s venture into this market will bring a significant geopolitical shift in the region. This step seems to be paving the way for Israel to further strengthen its geopolitical stronghold in the region.

The meeting took place at the North Block and included J-K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Focus on New Criminal Laws

The discussion focused on the status of several new provisions related to police, jails, courts, prosecution, and forensics. These provisions are part of three new criminal laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023; Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023; and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023. These laws have replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act.

Key Talks on Trade and Technology

During his visit, the Emir will focus on strengthening ties in trade, energy, technology, and defense. Upon his arrival, he held discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Additionally, the Emir is scheduled to meet PM Modi, with the aim of exploring new areas of cooperation, such as renewable energy and fintech.

Boost in Trade and Energy Cooperation

The relations between India and Qatar have grown significantly in recent years. Qatar is now India’s largest supplier of LNG and LPG, both of which are critical for India’s energy needs. On the other hand, India exports a variety of goods to Qatar, including textiles, machinery, and chemicals. Furthermore, both nations are eager to expand their trade and explore new sectors for collaboration.

Cultural and Defense Connections

In addition to trade, India and Qatar share strong cultural and defense ties. More than 8.4 lakh Indians live and work in Qatar. In terms of defense, India offers training to Qatar, and both countries have regular exchanges. These connections continue to strengthen their bilateral relationship.

Regional Security and Diplomatic Role

Qatar plays an essential role in regional security, acting as a mediator in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Moreover, India values Qatar’s involvement in facilitating engagement with the Taliban, which is vital for addressing ongoing regional issues.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again demonstrated his strategic acumen and diplomatic brilliance by securing significant agreements with the United States, despite the complexities of global geopolitics. His recent visit to Washington, hailed as a diplomatic masterstroke, has not only reinforced Indo-US ties but also cemented Bharat’s position as a rising global power with the potential to shape international affairs.
Foreign policy experts, including renowned Ashley J. Tellis and Lisa Curtis, have unanimously acknowledged that PM Modi’s visit to the US has been a resounding success, strengthening defence cooperation, expanding trade, and positioning Bharat as an indispensable strategic partner for America. This meeting signified a deeper alignment between the two largest democracies, ensuring that their economic, military, and geopolitical collaboration continues to flourish in the years to come.

BHARAT’S DIPLOMATIC BRILLIANCE: OUTMANOEUVRING GLOBAL CHALLENGES
Despite President Trump’s fixation on reciprocal tariffs, PM Modi successfully maneuvered the negotiations, ensuring Bharat’s interests were safeguarded while reinforcing a long-term strategic partnership with the US. Tellis, a former special assistant to President George Bush, called the visit a “Modi Makes Magic” moment, stating that it is extremely rare to see a leader disarm a personality like Trump and secure commitments that align with his own nation’s interests. This speaks volumes about Modi’s ability to forge strong diplomatic relations while prioritizing Bharat’s national interests.

Even with Trump’s reciprocal tariff rhetoric, Modi ensured that Indo-US cooperation remained on an upward trajectory, with key agreements on defence, energy trade, and economic collaboration. The two leaders set a historic trade target of $500 billion by 2030, a testament to Bharat’s rising economic clout under Modi’s leadership. The resilience displayed by Bharat in navigating these economic policies demonstrates that the nation is no longer a passive recipient of foreign policy decisions but an active participant shaping the global economic order.

Mega Partnership: MAGA + MIGA = MEGA
PM Modi’s visionary articulation of Indo-US ties captured the essence of this renewed partnership. He redefined Trump’s MAGA (Make America Great Again) slogan with MIGA (Make India Great Again), calling the Indo-US alliance a “MEGA” partnership for prosperity. This underscores Modi’s dynamic leadership and commitment to Bharat’s economic transformation, which resonates with global stakeholders.

Lisa Curtis, a key figure in Trump’s first administration, highlighted that the meeting not only reaffirmed Bharat’s strategic importance to the US but also set the foundation for long-term collaboration. She pointed out that the timing of this meeting in Trump’s second term signified that Bharat remains a top priority for the US. As India’s economic and technological capabilities expand, this alignment with the United States enhances Bharat’s role in global decision-making processes, further validating Modi’s proactive foreign policy approach.

Defence Cooperation: US Offers Cutting-Edge F-35 Fighter Jets
One of the most remarkable outcomes of this visit was the US offer to provide Bharat with its state-of-the-art F-35 fighter jets, signaling a major shift in America’s defence technology cooperation with Bharat. As Tellis noted, this was a clear message that the US is ready to offer Bharat its best defence technology, ensuring that our armed forces remain ahead in the region’s power dynamics. This offer, if materialized, would significantly elevate Bharat’s air combat capabilities and further strengthen its security architecture.

While Bharat is rightfully cautious about past delays in US defence deliveries—such as the prolonged timeline for the GE F404 engines for Tejas—this offer symbolizes growing trust between the two democracies. Lisa Curtis acknowledged that bureaucratic hurdles exist on both sides but emphasized that Modi’s leadership is accelerating Bharat’s defence modernization like never before. If implemented effectively, this defence collaboration will not only modernize Bharat’s military capabilities but also deepen strategic coordination in areas such as cybersecurity, space research, and intelligence-sharing.

Energy, Trade, and Economic Gains: Bharat Sets the Terms
PM Modi’s diplomatic negotiations were not limited to defence; he also secured increased US oil and gas exports to Bharat, reducing Bharat’s trade deficit while ensuring energy security. This strategic move enhances Bharat’s self-reliance (Aatmanirbhar Bharat) in energy security while fostering economic collaboration with the US. Modi’s ability to secure such deals highlights his pragmatic approach to economic diplomacy, ensuring Bharat’s access to critical resources while maintaining a balanced relationship with global superpowers.
Ashley Tellis emphasized that Trump operates on a transactional level, but Modi turned this approach into an advantage by offering mutually beneficial trade deals, ensuring that Bharat’s interests were well protected. Bharat is no longer a passive participant in global negotiations but an assertive player dictating the terms of engagement. This approach not only enhances Bharat’s negotiating position but also reinforces its economic credibility on the world stage, showcasing its ability to emerge as a strong competitor in the international market.

The Modi Doctrine: Strengthening Bharat’s Global Footprint
This visit once again demonstrated Modi’s ability to navigate complex diplomatic landscapes with strategic clarity. Under his leadership, Bharat is no longer just a regional power but a decisive global force that commands the world’s attention. His engagements are not merely symbolic but yield tangible results, reinforcing Bharat’s position as an indispensable stakeholder in global affairs.
Unlike past regimes that compromised on Bharat’s interests, Modi has positioned Bharat as an equal partner to the world’s superpowers. His ability to outmaneuver adversities and secure national interests has solidified Bharat’s standing on the world stage. As the world pivots towards a multipolar global order, Modi’s diplomatic strategies ensure that Bharat secures its rightful place at the center of international geopolitics.

Conclusion: Modi’s Masterstroke Secures Bharat’s Global Future
PM Modi’s visit to the US was not just about trade or defence; it was a reassertion of Bharat’s growing stature in global affairs. From strategic defence partnerships to trade expansions, his diplomacy ensured that Bharat emerged stronger, more influential, and better prepared for the future.

Foreign policy experts agree—Modi has worked his magic in the US, and Bharat is the ultimate winner. As Trump himself acknowledged, Bharat is now a key partner in shaping global geopolitics, and this is a direct result of Modi’s visionary leadership. This visit underscores the increasing recognition of Bharat as a power that commands respect, influences policy, and shapes global narratives.
With the MAGA + MIGA = MEGA partnership, Bharat is on an unstoppable trajectory toward global leadership, and the world is taking notice.

</excerpt>

With the changing landscape of world diplomacy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has established himself as a strategic architect, skillfully integrating technological partnerships into the fabric of India’s foreign policy. During his recent visits to the United States, he made sure to harness the transformational force of technology for India’s developmental imperatives and global standing. This approach is based on a strong belief that technical innovation is not only a byproduct of development but rather its driving force.

This conviction is not a recent phenomenon. Even as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Modi exhibited an appetite for creative ideas, most notably the use of satellite technology for water conservation. This early embrace of technology foreshadowed a broader vision for India’s technological ascendancy. PM Modi expressed his vision for using artificial intelligence to move the country ahead during the India-France summit in Paris, which he co-chaired with President Emmanuel Macron, referring to AI as the ‘code for mankind’. This was more than just rhetoric; it demonstrated a commitment to responsible AI governance and equal access, particularly for the Global South. As Modi has noted, to democratize AI, we must increase computing power, expand local talent, use more diverse data, and increase available financial resources.
He further underlined the importance of global collaboration in developing governance and standards that retain common values, manage risks, and create trust in AI during his remarks at the AI Action Summit in Paris. He emphasised AI’s potential to change millions of people’s lives by boosting health, education, and agriculture while also speeding progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Addressing concerns about employment losses due to AI, Modi stated that technology has traditionally changed the nature of labour, producing new forms of occupations. He emphasised the need to invest in training and retraining individuals for an AI-driven future and also mentioned the environmental impact of AI development, highlighting the high energy consumption of AI systems. He proposed leveraging initiatives like the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to fuel AI’s future with green energy and advocated for long-term AI models that are small in size, have low data demands, and require few resources.
His recently concluded state visit to the United States also resulted in several technological collaborations that promise to reshape India’s future. The announcement of the US-India TRUST (“Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technology”) program marks a watershed moment, boosting collaboration in fields such as AI, semiconductors, and quantum technologies while protecting sensitive technology.

Furthermore, as part of the TRUST initiative, there are ongoing attempts to develop trustworthy and robust supply chains, which are critical for pharmaceutical and semiconductor production. The INDUS-X initiative, designed to foster partnerships between U.S. and Indian defence companies, investors, and universities, seeks to produce critical capabilities for both militaries. The two leaders also launched the U.S.-India COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) for the 21st Century. Borrowing from across the Atlantic, Modi aims to “Make India Great Again” (MIGA).

India and the US are working towards increasing their cooperation in R&D and recycling technologies in recognition of the strategic significance of vital minerals. The launch of the Strategic Mineral Recovery initiative aims to recover and process critical minerals from heavy industries like aluminium, coal mining, and oil and gas. PM Modi’s goal extends beyond acquiring technology. It shows a dedication to reducing any socioeconomic upheavals and preparing India’s workforce for an AI-driven future. A dedication to transparency and accessibility is shown in the emphasis on digital public infrastructure. India laid the foundation for other developing nations to follow by democratising access to digital services for more than 1.4 billion inhabitants throughout his reign.

PM Modi’s technological diplomacy is a guide and a source of inspiration as we work to achieve a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. His technological and diplomatic skills are demonstrated by his ability to foster local innovation and form strategic relationships. The leader who sees technology as a tool for a technologically empowered Bharat that addresses internal challenges and advances global progress is becoming a reality, as seen by PM Modi’s recent diplomatic engagements. His objective is to use technology to solve societal issues, foster economic growth, and improve India’s standing internationally—it goes beyond merely advancing science.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to Delhi on Friday, arriving at Palam airport after completing his two-nation tour of France and the United States.

During his visit, PM Modi co-chaired the AI summit in France, and in the US, he met with President Donald Trump—marking their first meeting since Trump took office as the 47th US President on January 20, 2025.

On Thursday, PM Modi met with Trump at the White House, where the two leaders shared a hug as Trump welcomed him. Trump emphasized the strong bond between the two nations, stating that he, PM Modi, and their respective countries share “great unity and great friendship.” He also highlighted the importance of maintaining strong ties, expressing confidence that the relationship between the two nations will continue to grow.

PM Modi conveyed his delight at seeing Trump back in the White House for a second term and expressed optimism about further strengthening the India-US strategic partnership with the “same bond, trust and excitement.”

He also mentioned that the people of India had given him the opportunity to serve a third consecutive term as Prime Minister, an occurrence that has happened after 60 years in India’s history.

This visit marked PM Modi’s first trip to the US since Trump’s inauguration for a second term. He was among the first world leaders to visit the US under the new administration and had been invited within just three weeks of Trump’s swearing-in.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri provided insights into PM Modi’s visit, noting that the Prime Minister engaged in discussions with key figures, including the newly appointed Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Misri highlighted that the extensive four-hour discussions at the White House covered various issues such as strategic and security cooperation, defense, trade, economic collaboration, technology, energy security, and regional and global matters.

During a press briefing on Thursday, Misri described the visit as “very substantive and productive,” underscoring the priority both leaders place on the India-US partnership. He reiterated that the discussions encompassed “the entire gamut of the relationship, ranging from strategic and security cooperation, defence, trade and economic engagement, technology, energy security and people-to-people linkages, regional and global issues of concern.”

Before visiting the US, PM Modi spent three days in France from February 10-12, participating in events focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI), commerce, energy, and cultural exchanges. He co-chaired the AI Action Summit, which brought together world leaders and top global tech executives.

While in France, PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron visited Marseille, where they toured the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project, a collaborative initiative in which India is a member. PM Modi also paid homage to Indian soldiers who lost their lives during World Wars I and II at the Mazargues War Cemetery.

Additionally, PM Modi and Macron visited the control room of CMA-CGM, a major global shipping and logistics company. The two leaders jointly inaugurated the Indian Consulate in Marseille, and Macron personally came to the airport to bid farewell to PM Modi as he departed for the US for the second leg of his tour.

Trump, once again, expressed his appreciation for Modi.

Seven Key Remarks Trump Made About PM Modi

1. ‘We missed you a lot’
To begin with, Trump welcomed Modi with a hug and said, “We missed you, we missed you a lot.” In response, Modi smiled and said, “It’s great to see you again.”

2. ‘A special man’
Moreover, Trump described Modi as “a special man.” He expressed excitement at the opportunity to welcome his “friend” to the US. He went on to emphasize that the relationship between the two countries had never been stronger under Modi’s leadership.

3. ‘A great friend for a long time’
Trump further highlighted their longstanding friendship, stating, “It has been a great honour to host PM Modi.” He continued, “We’ve had a wonderful relationship and just started up again,” reinforcing the closeness between the two.

He said, “He is a much tougher negotiator than me… There is not even a contest.” This remark followed Trump’s earlier mention of India’s high tariffs on American goods.

5. ‘Everybody talks about him’
In addition, Trump praised Modi’s leadership in India, noting that he is doing “a really great job.” He added, “Everybody talks about him,” signaling widespread recognition of Modi’s work.

In the book, Trump wrote, “Mr. Prime Minister, You Are Great,” a personal gesture that further underscored his admiration for the Indian leader.

</excerpt>

One of the signals of the importance being accorded by the US to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States to meet the newly elected President Donald Trump is the fact that he will be staying at the Blair House, which is also known as the President’s Guest House. Located just across the White House, this 1824-built Blair House has hosted world leaders such as Charles de Gaulle, Queen Elizabeth II, Emperor of Japan, Boris Yeltsin and Tony Blair among others. So if symbolism is anything to go by, the Prime Minister of India is being given the respect the leader of the world’s most populous democracy, and the most consequential partner of the US in the 21st century, deserves.

The conversation should start from this point and not from the bucket loads of tariff that Trump is supposed to be imposing on India, if the detractors of India-US relations are to be believed. President Trump may have spoken of 100% tariffs on BRICS countries if they go for a BRICS currency, or may have made off the cuff remarks on reciprocal tariffs, but the fact is that these are edges—particularly the reciprocal tariffs bit—that can be smoothened, with a bit of give and take and some intelligent handling. President Trump’s grouse against a BRICS currency is anyway a non-issue, for there is no BRICS currency on the horizon. In fact, India in particular is completely against a BRICS currency as that would mean allowing the BRICS to slide into China’s sphere of influence completely. So whatever the economists at Morgan Stanley and Nomura Holdings might be saying, that India will be one of the two biggest victims of tariffs by Trump—the other one is Thailand—the fact is that the 47th President of the United States needs to be given some sweeteners in the shape of deals and investments by Indian companies that can help him to take his “America First” policy forward—and why not? That is the platform on which he has come to power—Make America Great Again. At the same time, India too has an “India First” policy and it is here that the meeting point has to be found between the two countries, without compromising each other’s interests. Take the example of defence. President Trump wants India to buy more American defence materiel. But for that he has to ensure that first, all sorts of critical technology are shared with India and after that there is no delay in delivery. India has another ask, technology sharing so that the US and India can jointly manufacture some of these defence materiel in India. Earlier there was talk of the possibility of the F-16 being manufactured in India and to be sold across the world. This would have also ensured the induction of multiple F-16s in India’s Air Force. It is hoped that the proposal will be picked up again in Trump 2.0.

President Trump also may want India to buy oil from the US, and reduce its dependency on Russia. But for that the US will have to ensure comparable prices, because on this issue it is India’s interest that will matter first.
If President Trump is looking at investments from India—which many Indian companies are already doing—it’s a two-way street. India too expects investments from American companies.

Seen from a broader perspective, the US cannot have an Indo-Pacific policy without India being at the centre of it—not just as a security provider for the broader region, but also as the voice of the Global South, bringing to the table the issues of the poorer countries of the region, be they in the Pacific or in the Indian Ocean Region, and thus acting as a bridge builder. In terms of defence and security, India and the US have come a long way and Prime Minister Modi’s meeting with President Trump is expected to give a boost in that direction, expanding cooperation. After all, but for India, who is standing up to China not only in Asia, but in the whole world? So if there has to be a free and open Indo-Pacific, there is no option but for deeper cooperation between India and the US. As we have seen even during Trump 1.0, India-US relations were on a growth trajectory. There is no reason why that will not be repeated and taken further during Trump 2.0 as well.

Hence, this latest meeting between the two leaders are very important and is expected to open new doors of cooperation. All eyes are now on the 13 February meeting in Washington, DC, to see what the two leaders unveil for the two countries they respectively head.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday for using technology to enhance democracy in India. He shared his thoughts during the monthly “Mann ki Baat” broadcast, which coincided with the upcoming EC Foundation Day on January 25, also observed as National Voters’ Day. This comes in the context of continuous opposition criticism about the EC’s alleged bias towards the BJP.

Using Technology to Strengthen Democracy

Modi emphasized how the EC has modernized and strengthened the election process over time. “It has used the power of technology to strengthen people’s power,” he stated. He urged citizens to actively participate in the electoral process, thereby contributing to the empowerment of democracy.

Supporting Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)

In addition, Modi’s remarks seemed to indirectly defend the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which have faced increasing scrutiny from opposition parties. By emphasizing the EC’s commitment to fair elections, his statement appears to endorse the reliability of EVMs in ensuring a transparent election process.

Reflecting on India’s Democracy

Modi also reflected on India’s journey as a democracy, recalling the doubts cast after independence. However, he affirmed, “India is the mother of democracy,” emphasizing that the country has proven its critics wrong and continued to thrive as a democratic nation.

Marking the 75th Anniversary of the Constitution

Looking ahead to Republic Day, Modi highlighted the significance of the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s implementation. He played audio clips from India’s founding leaders, including Rajendra Prasad, Bhim Rao Ambedkar, and Syama Prasad Mookerjee. These clips underscored the values these leaders promoted, and Modi encouraged the nation to draw inspiration from their vision to build a stronger India.

Unity and Participation at the Maha Kumbh

Shifting focus, Modi also spoke about the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, where people from different castes and regions have come together. He noted that there was no discrimination present, reinforcing the spirit of unity. Furthermore, he highlighted the significant involvement of youth in the event, believing it would strengthen India’s civilizational roots and secure a brighter future.

Pride in Global Recognition of the Mahakumbh

Lastly, Modi expressed pride in the global recognition of the Mahakumbh. He emphasized that its immense popularity is a matter of pride for every Indian, showcasing the cultural significance of the event on the world stage.

</excerpt>

The security lapse involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Punjab three years ago has come back into the spotlight. A Ferozepur court has issued arrest warrants against 25 farmers, adding charges of attempted murder under Section 307 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The development came to light when summons were issued to the farmers, revealing that police had recently added Sections 307, 353, 341, 186, 149, and Section 8-B of the National Highways Act to the original FIR. The case, initially registered under Section 283 (obstruction of a public road), has now taken a more serious turn.

On the day of the incident, PM Modi was scheduled to address a rally in Ferozepur and pay homage at the Hussainiwala Memorial. Due to inclement weather, his helicopter journey was canceled, and he traveled by road. However, farmers blocked the route, causing the PM’s convoy to halt on Pyareyana Flyover for nearly 20 minutes before returning to Delhi. Upon reaching Bathinda airport, Modi reportedly remarked, “Thank your Chief Minister that I could reach Bathinda alive.”

According to police sources, the farmers had repeatedly failed to appear in court, prompting the issuance of arrest warrants. The court has directed police to arrest the accused and present them by January 22. SP (Detective) Randhir Kumar confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

Initially filed as a bailable offense, the FIR now includes graver charges like attempted murder (Section 307), assault on a public servant (Section 353), wrongful restraint (Section 341), obstruction of duty (Section 186), unlawful assembly (Section 149), and provisions under the National Highways Act. The FIR names 26 individuals, including BKU (Revolutionary) General Secretary Baldev Singh Jeera. One accused, Major Singh, has passed away, while action has intensified against the remaining 25.

Following the incident, the Supreme Court formed a committee led by retired Justice Indu Malhotra to investigate the security breach. The committee recommended strict action against then-DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay, DIG Inderbir Singh, and SSP Harman Hans, among others. It also questioned the roles of then-Home Secretary Anirudh Tiwari and other officials.

After the AAP government replaced the Congress in Punjab, disciplinary action was taken against seven police officers. This included suspensions of SP Gurbinder Singh, DSPs Prasoon Singh and Jagdish Kumar, and other officers who were on duty in Ferozepur during the PM’s visit.

BKU (Revolutionary) President Surjit Singh Phool accused the Punjab government of acting under pressure from the central government. He claimed that police are raiding farmers’ homes for arrests and described the charges, including attempted murder, as baseless.

“Our protests were peaceful, and these allegations are part of a conspiracy to intimidate farmers and their leaders,” Phool told the media. He also alleged that Punjab Police had previously detained farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal in November but later released him. Phool warned the government against targeting farmers, accusing the center of attempting to weaken their movement.

</excerpt>

BJP formed a third successive government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since the inception of the third government, we have witnessed a significant development in policy to boost digital aged governance reforms. As announced by IMF, the Indian economy has become the fifth largest in the world and is currently the fastest-growing large economy globally. Over this decade, the government’s Budget has tripled from RS 16 lakh crore to RS 48 lakh crore. Among many milestones, one stands out for symbolising India’s qualitative transformation—the leadership of the Narendra Modi government.

For decades, Indian governance model was characterised by dysfunctionality and corruption. This was famously quoted by Rajiv Gandhi, then Prime Minister in the late 1980s when he noted that out of every RS 100 allocated, only RS 15 reached its intended recipient, he quoted in his election rallies. This leakage, corruption, and inefficiency defined India’s governance for six and a half decades after Independence and got curtail after recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed his office, bringing with his vision of ‘Maximum Governance’.

In the era of technological dominating society, we are observing remarkable technological transformation. This paradigm shift and tech driven institutional arrangement is no longer about potential—digital age is now a reality that is reshaping economies, improving and empowering lives. India has also recently seen first-hand how technology can empower countries that were once marginalised, enabling them to leap into a new era of opportunities.
The Indian government is stepping towards advancement in technologies like AI and regulate the domain with significant caution and ensuring security and data sovereignty. Broadly, Indian government supports innovation driven governance and AI regulation. To unlock this dead lock government brings the blueprint of a New Digital India act. The government commitment also reflected in the G20 Ministerial Declaration made during India’s presidency, as well as a statement in Parliament in April 2023 that “[the Indian government] is not considering bringing a law or regulating the growth of AI in the country.

AI ecosystem will enhance the capacity, scope to work for governance meanwhile AI-enabled harms and security concern exist at various levels. Therefore, while the governance of the tech stack is a priority, governance of the organisations developing AI solutions, or the people behind the technology, could also be productive.
Even as democratisation has made AI more accessible, assigning responsibility and defining accountability for the operation of AI systems have become more difficult. There are ongoing debates about who is responsible for the harms emanating from AI.

India is completing its 100 years in 2047, and present dispensation is observing it as Amrit Kal and taking policy steps to bring in line of reforms to strengthen, empowering and making more effective governance. It will be focused on priorities NextGen reforms and quote “In this decade of Amrit Kaal, we will give priority to Next Generation Reforms. We will ensure that all facilities like service delivery should reach citizens up to the last mile; it should reach the last person seamlessly, without hesitation or any kind of difficulty. For the overall development of the country, unnecessary interference by the Government and Government processes in the lives of the people has to be ended” – Prime Minister Narendra Modi

The government attempted to improve the ecosystem’s transparency and speed by simplifying procedures and processes at every level. Various citizen-centric initiatives, including redressing public grievances and disposing of service delivery applications, have been undertaken by the government to expand the outreach of service delivery mechanisms and make them more effective. The emphasis was on projecting the immense potential of technology to bring citizens and government closer, as a powerful tool to empower citizens as well as a medium to optimize transparency and accountability in day-to-day functioning.

In the era of technological advancement, Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming societies, industry ecosystem across the board as leaders recognize the technology’s potential to improve productivity, enhance creativity, boost quality, and generate new solutions. Opening new domain will be game-changer while many leaders also acknowledge that mitigating risks associated with AI can lead to a competitive advantage and fundamentally contribute to their success. Therefore, adopting the technology ethically and responsibly has become a key consideration, leading to the rapid emergence and adoption of AI governance.
AI is changing work culture ecosystem and enabling the way of working and lives, providing unprecedented advantage to organisations, individuals and society. Its developing a new technological culture, which is self-adaptive, sensitive and self-reliant.

Future holds even greater promise as it converges with other advancements such as quantum, bio-technologies and other nature inspired technological developments. It has become necessarily for governments to adopt new technologies with preventive measure to meet with NextGen aspirations and societal advancements. Recently, Prime Minister Modi had quoted AI as Aspirational India, which roll the opening the boundaries of Government and its commitment.
“Thinking about the future allows us to imagine what kind of future we want to live and how we can get there.”

Satyendra Tripathi is Chairman, LokNeeti India; Secertary General, East Africa Foundation & a social political activist. Visiting Fellow, India Foundation.

Importantly, it replaces a dangerous Z-shaped road that was frequently blocked by avalanches. Additionally, the tunnel offers all-weather connectivity and reduces travel time from hours to just 15 minutes.

Significantly, the tunnel is expected to boost the local economy by ensuring year-round access. Furthermore, it will facilitate travel to Ladakh and the Amarnath Yatra. The project also creates new jobs and positions Sonamarg as a premier winter sports destination, complementing the nearby Gulmarg ski resort.

Extensive Security Arrangements in Place

To ensure safety during PM Modi’s visit, authorities have implemented tight security measures. The SPG, J&K Police, security forces, and the army have secured the area. Moreover, the Prime Minister will address a public gathering during the event.
