Hinchcliffe’s Disparaging Comments

The controversy began when comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, speaking at a Trump rally, referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.” He also made derogatory comments about various groups, including Black Americans and Latinos. In response, Biden addressed these remarks during a Zoom call with Voto Latino. He stated, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters’ — his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and it’s un-American.”

AAP To Hold Press Conference Amid Alleged Assault On MP Swati Maliwal

Amid the ongoing controversy over the alleged assault of AAP MP Swati Maliwal at the residence of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, the party has announced a press conference to “bring out the reality” of the situation. AAP minister Atishi posted on X, “Will be doing a press conference today at 6 pm to bring out the reality of the Swati Maliwal issue.”

In the meantime, the Delhi Police’s forensic unit arrived at the Chief Minister’s residence to collect evidence related to the alleged assault on Swati Maliwal. Earlier in the day, AAP criticized Maliwal over a purported video from the CM’s residence, supposedly filmed on the day of the alleged incident. The party shared the video, which was posted by a news channel, with the caption “Swati Maliwal ka sach (Swati Maliwal’s truth).” The video allegedly shows Maliwal arguing with security personnel at the CM’s residence.

This marks the first instance of AAP opposing Maliwal’s account, contradicting AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s earlier statement that Arvind Kejriwal had acknowledged the incident and called for “strict action,” emphasizing that the party supports Swati Maliwal.

In response to the same video, Swati Maliwal criticized an anonymous individual, calling him a “political hitman” and accusing him of trying to protect himself. She stated that the ‘truth’ will be revealed once the CCTV footage of the house and the room is examined. Maliwal wrote on X, “Like every time, this time also this political hitman has started efforts to save himself. By getting his people to tweet and play videos without any context, he thinks he can save himself by committing this crime.” She added, “Who makes a video of someone being beaten up? The truth will be revealed to everyone as soon as the CCTV footage of the house and the room is checked. Fall to whatever level you can, God is watching everything. One day everyone’s truth will come out in front of the world.”

The Delhi Police filed an FIR in the case based on Swati Maliwal’s complaint, which revealed shocking details. According to the FIR, Maliwal alleged that Kejriwal’s personal secretary, Bibhav Kumar, “slapped” her “at least seven to eight times” while she “continued screaming” and “brutally dragged” her while “kicking” her in her “chest, stomach and pelvis area.”

Maliwal recounted the events of May 13 when she visited the Civil Lines residence of Chief Minister Kejriwal. According to the FIR, she stated, “I went inside the camp office and called CM’s PS Bibhav Kumar but I could not go in. I then sent a message to his mobile number (through WhatsApp). However, there was no response. I then went inside the residential area through the main door, as I have always done in the past year. Since Bibhav Kumar was not present, I entered the residence area and informed the staff present there to tell the CM here to meet him.”

Maliwal continued in her complaint, “I was informed that he was present in the house and I was told to wait in the drawing room. I went into the drawing room and sat on the sofa and waited for him to meet me.” She described the assault, stating, “He then abused me and asked, who are you to not listen to what I say. While saying these words, he came and stood right in front of me. Without any provocation whatsoever on my side, he started slapping me with full force. He slapped me seven to eight times, at least while I continued screaming. I felt absolutely shocked and was screaming for help over and over again. In order to protect myself, I pushed him away with my legs.”

Maliwal added, “I repeatedly told him that he should please let go of me as I was in unbearable pain. However, he attacked me with full force again and again. I somehow managed to get free. I then sat on the sofa of the drawing room and gathered my spectacles that had fallen on the ground during the assault. I was in a terrible state of shock at this attack. I was deeply traumatised and called the 112 number and reported the crime against me.”

The FIR was filed under IPC Sections 308 (Attempt to commit culpable homicide), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 354B (Assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

Ex-HC Judge to probe Manipur violence; Amit shah warns of strict action

During his four-day visit to Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Central government has established a probe committee, to be headed by a retired judge, to investigate the incidents of violence in the state. Additionally, Shah stated that a special team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will be assigned to investigate the cases of violence, which have resulted in loss of lives and damage to properties in Manipur. Shah made these remarks during a press conference held at the conclusion of his visit.

The Union Minister said, “Central Government has constituted a committee to probe into these incidents headed by a retired judge of the rank of the chief justice of a high court. The Governor of Manipur will head a peace committee with members of civil society.”

“A probe panel will be set up to look into the reasons for the violence and to identify who was responsible for it,” he said.The Union Minister assured the people of Manipur that the investigations will be carried out without any bias and discrimination and the guilty will be punished.

Madurai: AIADMK to hold state conference this August

On 20 August, the AIADMK has decided to hold its state conference in Madurai. The first one after Edappadi K. Palaniswami, popularly known as EPS, became the general secretary of the party.

On Sunday, the decision was taken after a resolution was passed at the executive committee of the party held in Chennai. This will also be the first meeting of the AIADMK after EPS became the general secretary of AIADMK, triumphing over the internal battle with O Panneerselvam or OPS.

In the decision of the executive committee, it was said that M G Ramachandran and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had “charted history by holding mega conferences in places like Tirunelveli and Trichy,” and that the Madurai conference will likewise be a “turning point for AIADMK.”

Detractors said that the AIADMK had suffered in Tamil Nadu’s southern districts as a result of the removal of OPS, a southern Tamil native. According to an AIADMK insider, they hope to refute this narrative by having a state convention in Madurai.

Another resolution approved by the executive committee made a passing allusion to OPS and his group. “The party under the leadership of EPS should teach a lesson to traitors who have a clandestine link with DMK,” the resolution reads.

Some resolutions passed in the executive committee criticise DMK and its state government. Those resolutions alleged among other things law and order breakdown in Tamil Nadu under the DMK government, registering false cases against AIADMK workers, DMK not implementing election promises and DMK undermining state assembly conventions.
The State conference also called upon the DMK government to “impress upon the Centre to implement Cauvery – Godavari river link project and Nadanthai Vazhi Cauvery project.”
AIADMK state conference also decided to set up booth committees quickly across the state for strengthening the party at grass root ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In connection with this Union Minister Smriti Irani made a strong attack on Rahul Gandhi and opposition and held a press conference.

During the press conference, Smriti Irani said, “Rahul is defaming the country in anger.” She added “This is not the first time Rahul Gandhi did something like that- we saw it in England. His hatred for Modi has now gone far leading to affect the country.”

Talking about the attempt of Rahul Gandhi to insult PM Modi the minister said that Rahul Gandhi has insulted the entire OBC community to insult PM Modi. When a woman from tribal family became the president, even then Droupadi Murmu was insulted by a congress member on the instructions of the Gandhi family, said Smriti Irani.

Smriti Irani knocked congress while reminding about the past. She added, “If we look at the history of UPA the Gandhi family tried their best to challenge their arrogance to stop the deliverance of Modi, but PM Modi did not stop.”

Shraddha’s father demands death penalty for Aaftab; seeks restrictions on dating apps

Vikas Walker, father of Shraddha Walkar who was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner, demanded the death penalty for accused Aaftab Poonawalla while also alleging that he faced “many problems” because of the Vasai Police.

Vikas alleged that if the Vasai Police had helped him, “Shraddha would have been alive”.

However, he added that Delhi Police has assured his family that they will get justice.
Addressing a joint press conference with BJP leader Kirit Somaiya in Mumbai, Vikas said, “My daughter was brutally murdered. I faced many problems because of the Vasai police, if they had helped me, my daughter would have been alive.” “Delhi Police assured us that we will get justice. Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis also assured us of the same,” he added.

Seeking a probe against the family members and relatives of the accused, Shraddha’s father also demanded Aaftab be hanged till death.
“I expect a similar lesson for Aaftab Poonwala in the way he murdered my daughter. He should be hanged. A probe should be conducted against Aftab’s family members, relatives and all others included in the incident,” he said.

Pointing out the drawbacks and misuse of some mobile applications (dating apps), he also sought “restrictions” on them.
“There should also be restrictions on some mobile apps. Children older than 18 yrs of age should be somewhat controlled and they should be given counselling. What happened to me shouldn’t happen to anyone else. I tried to talk with my daughter but she didn’t respond to me in the last two years. I was never told what was happening with my daughter,” he said.
