Acknowledging Algeria’s Reforms

President Murmu praised the Algerian government’s reform efforts under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. She noted the positive changes taking place in the country and commended Tebboune for his commitment to inclusive growth and democratic progress. “I commend the transformative reforms that have been introduced by the Algerian Government under his able leadership,” she remarked.

Historical Ties and Shared Values

Highlighting the historical connection between India and Algeria, President Murmu recalled India’s support for Algeria during its fight for independence. She stressed the shared values of both nations and their common goals for peace and prosperity. “India had extended strong support to the Algerian struggle for freedom, and today, India and Algeria are committed to embark on the path of peace and prosperity,” she said.

India-Africa Relations and Algeria’s Growth

Murmu pointed to India’s growing relationship with Africa, stating that India is the fourth-largest trading partner of the continent, with bilateral trade amounting to USD 84 billion and investments over USD 75 billion. She also highlighted Algeria’s economic progress, with a 4% GDP growth and 9,000 new investment projects in the last two years. Encouraging Indian businesses to engage with Algeria, she said, “I encourage our companies to remain engaged and invested in the opportunities that the Algerian economy offers.”

Untapped Trade Potential

India-Algeria trade currently stands at USD 1.7 billion, but President Murmu emphasized the potential for further growth in key sectors like energy, construction, automobiles, fertilizers, and pharmaceuticals. She urged both countries to explore new areas for collaboration and investment, indicating untapped potential that could be harnessed.

India’s Economic Progress and Opportunities

Murmu also highlighted India’s transformation into a USD 4 trillion economy, attributing it to political stability, policy predictability, and a reform-oriented approach. She cited initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, the India Semiconductor Mission, and the establishment of smart industrial cities as examples of recent reforms that have improved the business environment in India. “In today’s uncertain global environment, India’s rapid rise stands out… This has made it easy for businesses to establish and grow in India,” she explained.

Inviting Algerian Participation in India’s Growth

President Murmu extended an invitation to Algerian businesses to participate in India’s “Make in India” and “Make for World” initiatives. She mentioned India’s accomplishments in areas such as science, technology, fintech, pharma, space, startups, and renewable energy, offering to share these experiences with Algeria. “I invite Algerian companies to join our Make in India and Make for World initiatives,” she said, emphasizing the mutual benefits of collaboration.

LS Polls 2024: President Draupadi Murmu Casts Vote In Delhi

As the sixth phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections unfolds, President Droupadi Murmu cast her vote at a polling booth in the national capital. After voting, President Murmu proudly displayed her inked finger.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, accompanied by his wife Sudesh Dhankhar, also arrived at a polling booth in Delhi to cast their votes. Both Vice President Dhankhar and his wife showed their inked fingers after voting. Following his vote, Vice President Dhankhar remarked, “Voting is both a responsibility and a power. India is the world’s most vibrant, active and effective democracy.”

All seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi are undergoing elections today. These constituencies include New Delhi, North East Delhi, East Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, North West Delhi, and Chandni Chowk.

The sixth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections began on Saturday morning across 58 parliamentary constituencies spread over six states and two Union Territories (UTs), amidst tight security and arrangements. Voting commenced at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm, with those in line by the closing time still permitted to vote.

This election phase will determine the electoral fate of leaders from high-profile constituencies, including Anantnag, Rajouri, Puri, and North East Delhi. Of the 58 Lok Sabha seats, 14 are from Uttar Pradesh, 10 from Haryana, eight each from West Bengal and Bihar, seven from Delhi, six from Odisha, four from Jharkhand, and one from Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), over 11.13 crore voters, including 5.84 crore males, 5.29 crore females, and 5,120 third-gender electors, will decide the fate of 889 candidates today. The ECI also noted that there are over 8.93 lakh registered voters aged 85 and above, 23,659 voters aged over 100, and 9.58 lakh PwD (Persons with Disabilities) voters for phase 6, who have been given the option to vote from home. Approximately 11.4 lakh polling officials will welcome over 11.13 crore voters across 1.14 lakh polling stations.

On Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu remarked that the long-standing aspirations for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya have become a reality, addressing a joint sitting of Parliament at the commencement of the Budget Session. Representing the Central government, she highlighted the completion of several works in the last decade that were eagerly awaited by the people of India. Specifically, she emphasized the fulfillment of the centuries-old aspiration for the construction of the Ram Temple, officially inaugurated in Uttar Pradesh on January 22.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his media interaction before the Budget Session, began and concluded his address with the salutation ‘Ram Ram.’ The President acknowledged the historic significance of 2023, citing it as a year when India maintained the status of the fastest-growing major economy, achieving a growth of about 7.5 percent for two consecutive quarters.

Budget 2024 session: President Murmu arrives in Parliament in traditional buggy

President Droupadi Murmu made a grand entrance at the new Parliament building for the Budget Session on Wednesday, choosing a traditional horse-drawn carriage reminiscent of its recent appearance during the 75th Republic Day celebrations. The President, accompanied by guards, headed to the Parliament in the buggy for her address to a joint sitting of both Houses ahead of the Budget Session commencement.

Welcoming her arrival were Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Before her address, traditional rituals of ‘Sengol’ were conducted in the House, with the sacred item being brought into the Parliament along with the President and installed in her presence.

Earlier this year, on May 28, PM Modi had placed the golden spectre in the Lok Sabha chamber, next to the Speaker’s chair in the new Parliament building, following a puja. The historic ‘Sengol’ was handed over to PM Modi by Adheenams and adopted as a national symbol of the Amrit Kaal.

This is the same ‘Sengol’ that was accepted by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, at his residence on the night of August 14, in the presence of several leaders. The Republic Day Parade saw President Droupadi Murmu and French President Emmanuel Macron arriving at the ceremonial boulevard Kartavya Path in the traditional buggy after a hiatus of 40 years.

The ongoing Parliament session, the last before the Lok Sabha polls expected in April-May, is slated to have a total of eight sittings spread over 10 days. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the interim budget on Thursday, February 1.

According to the list of business by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, proceedings in both Houses will commence half an hour after the President’s address. The Secretary Generals of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha are set to present a copy of the President’s address on their respective tables.

A meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh with floor leaders of political parties was held on Tuesday ahead of the Interim Budget Session. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, announced that the session may conclude on February 9, with a focus on financial matters related to the Interim Union Budget for the year 2024-25 and discussions on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. Legislative and other essential business will also be addressed during this session. Furthermore, presentations and discussions on the Interim Budget of Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir for 2024-25, along with Supplementary Demands for Grants of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the financial year 2023-24, are expected to be taken up and voted on.

The official statement also indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage with the recipients of the PM Rashtriya Bal Puraskar on January 23. Women and Child Development Minister, Smriti Zubin Irani, and Minister of State Munjpara Mahendrabhai will join the ceremony to interact with the children, commending their remarkable accomplishments across various categories.

The PM Rashtriya Bal Puraskar-2024 will be presented to 19 children hailing from different regions of the country, recognized for their outstanding achievements in Art and Culture (7), Bravery (1), Innovation (1), Science & Technology (1), Social Service (4), and Sports (5), as outlined in the press release.
