</excerpt>

Pregnancy is one of the most life-changing events a woman will experience, marked by profound emotional, physical, and psychological shifts. These changes not only help a woman prepare for the arrival of her baby but also influence how she will respond to the challenges of motherhood. The process is complex and involves much more than just hormonal fluctuations or physical transformations. A recent study published in Nature Communications has uncovered an intriguing aspect of pregnancy: how it reshapes the mother’s brain. The research reveals that pregnancy can cause significant reductions in gray matter—key areas of the brain that are involved in cognition, decision-making, and emotional regulation. More remarkably, this reduction is followed by a partial recovery after childbirth. These changes appear to be a crucial part of the emotional, psychological, and behavioral preparations that equip mothers for the intense demands of caring for a newborn.

The Complex Interplay of Brain Changes and Hormonal Shifts

Pregnancy is marked by a cascade of hormonal changes, and one of the most influential hormones is estrogen. The role of estrogen in pregnancy is multifaceted: it helps regulate the maternal immune system, contributes to the development of fetal organs, and influences emotional and cognitive processes. However, the changes in estrogen levels are not only central to the mother’s physiology but also significantly impact the brain. As estrogen levels surge, they promote structural changes in the brain’s gray matter. These changes may seem paradoxical, as the reduction in gray matter could be interpreted as a form of cognitive impairment, but research suggests otherwise. In fact, this reduction may actually serve a functional purpose.

The brain is highly adaptive, and its neuroplasticity allows it to reorganize and adjust to new challenges. During pregnancy, particularly in the later stages, the brain undergoes structural reconfigurations that are thought to be related to the heightened demands of motherhood. These changes include a reduction in gray matter volume in specific brain regions. The gray matter reduction is most pronounced in areas related to social cognition, emotional processing, and decision-making, all of which are critical for developing strong maternal behaviors such as bonding, empathy, and caregiving. This reshaping of the brain serves to optimize the mother’s ability to respond to her infant’s needs and foster a strong emotional connection with her child.

The Study: A Closer Look at the Brain During Pregnancy

The study that explored these brain changes involved 127 mothers and tracked their brain structures from pre-conception to six months postpartum. Using advanced neuroimaging techniques like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the researchers were able to observe changes in gray matter over the course of pregnancy and after childbirth. The results were striking: during pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, there was a significant reduction in gray matter volume in several brain regions associated with social cognition, emotional regulation, and decision-making.

Interestingly, the study revealed a “U-shaped” pattern of brain changes. The most substantial gray matter reduction occurred in late pregnancy, followed by a partial recovery postpartum. This recovery process began six months after childbirth, but it was not a full return to pre-pregnancy brain structure. The changes observed in the brain regions involved in social cognition and emotion processing are believed to be directly related to the brain’s adaptation to motherhood. These areas of the brain play a crucial role in helping mothers bond with their babies, develop a nurturing instinct, and make the decisions necessary to provide care and protection.

In addition to the structural changes in gray matter, the study also noted fluctuations in certain estrogens, such as estriol sulfate and estrone sulfate, during pregnancy. These hormonal changes correlate with the brain’s structural shifts and may further enhance the mother’s capacity for emotional regulation and bonding. Estriol sulfate, for example, has been linked to mood regulation and cognitive function, both of which are crucial for new mothers as they navigate the emotional and psychological challenges of postpartum life.

Why Does the Brain Change During Pregnancy?

While it might seem alarming that pregnancy leads to a reduction in gray matter, the changes are far from detrimental. In fact, these changes likely reflect the brain’s extraordinary ability to adapt to the demands of motherhood. One of the most notable functions of the brain during pregnancy is the development of maternal behaviors that are essential for caring for the newborn. The reduction in gray matter might be part of a process that tunes the brain to be more attuned to the emotional and physical needs of the baby.

The brain undergoes changes in areas responsible for empathy, social cognition, and decision-making, all of which are important for mother-child bonding. These changes likely help the mother become more sensitive to her infant’s cues, whether it’s recognizing the baby’s needs or responding to emotional signals. The process is thought to enhance the mother’s capacity for caregiving, helping her form a deep emotional attachment to the baby.

From an evolutionary perspective, the brain’s adaptation to motherhood is crucial for the survival of the offspring. A mother who is more attuned to the needs of her child and who feels a deep emotional connection is more likely to invest time, energy, and care into her child’s well-being, thus increasing the likelihood of the child’s survival and healthy development. This aligns with the concept of maternal instinct, a natural drive to nurture and protect the child.

The Hormonal Role in Pregnancy-Induced Brain Changes

Hormones play a crucial role in shaping the brain during pregnancy. Estrogen, in particular, is known to influence the growth and maintenance of neurons. During pregnancy, the body produces higher levels of estrogen, and this surge likely contributes to the changes observed in the brain. Estrogen is also involved in regulating mood, and its fluctuations throughout pregnancy can impact emotional regulation. In addition to estrogen, the hormone oxytocin, known as the “bonding hormone,” also increases during pregnancy and childbirth. Oxytocin enhances maternal behavior and plays a vital role in fostering the emotional connection between mother and child.

Oxytocin has a powerful effect on emotional bonding and social interactions. It promotes trust, emotional openness, and empathy, all of which are essential for forming a secure and nurturing relationship with the baby. The heightened levels of oxytocin during pregnancy may contribute to the changes in the brain that are seen in areas responsible for emotional processing, allowing the mother to bond more easily with her newborn.

The Postpartum Period and Brain Recovery

One of the most fascinating aspects of the study is the finding that the changes in the brain during pregnancy are not permanent. After childbirth, there is a partial recovery of gray matter volume, although the brain does not fully return to its pre-pregnancy state. This recovery process begins within the first six months postpartum, and while it may not result in a complete restoration of brain structure, it signifies that the brain is capable of adapting to the new realities of motherhood. This partial recovery could be due to the brain’s continued neuroplasticity, where it reorganizes itself to handle the new demands of raising a child.

Despite the changes in brain structure, the emotional and cognitive abilities of mothers do not seem to be significantly impaired. The study suggests that while gray matter volume may decrease, it is likely that the brain is compensating by improving the efficiency of certain neural networks involved in maternal behaviors. This means that even with a reduction in gray matter, the mother’s ability to care for and bond with her child remains intact.

Implications of Pregnancy-Related Brain Changes

The implications of these findings are significant. The structural changes in the brain during pregnancy highlight the incredible adaptability of the human brain. These changes not only help the mother prepare for the emotional and physical challenges of raising a child but also emphasize the importance of maternal care in a child’s development. The brain’s ability to reorganize itself in response to pregnancy underscores the importance of supporting new mothers, especially during the postpartum period, when brain recovery is ongoing.

It also helps explain the phenomenon of “mom brain” or “pregnancy brain,” which refers to the memory lapses and cognitive fog that many women experience during and after pregnancy. While this condition is often dismissed as a trivial issue, the research suggests that it is likely linked to the brain’s structural changes during pregnancy. Understanding that these cognitive shifts are a normal part of the brain’s adaptation to motherhood can help reduce the stigma surrounding “mom brain” and encourage more support for new mothers as they adjust to their new roles.

Pregnancy is a transformative experience that reshapes a woman’s body in many ways, but it also transforms her brain. The reduction in gray matter during pregnancy, particularly in areas related to social cognition, emotional regulation, and decision-making, is a key adaptation that helps a mother bond with her child and meet the demands of motherhood. While these changes may seem concerning, they are a natural part of the brain’s remarkable capacity for neuroplasticity, which allows it to reorganize and adapt to new challenges. The partial recovery of gray matter postpartum further underscores the brain’s ability to heal and adjust over time.

These findings provide new insights into the maternal brain and offer a deeper understanding of the profound transformations that occur during pregnancy. They emphasize the importance of supporting mothers throughout their pregnancy and postpartum journey, ensuring they have the resources and care needed to thrive in their new roles. Ultimately, the reshaping of the brain during pregnancy is a testament to the incredible adaptability and resilience of the human mind, preparing mothers for the lifelong journey of nurturing and loving their children.

Hours later, she underwent an emergency C-section, delivering a healthy baby boy. Her unique case highlights challenges heavier women face in detecting pregnancy.
</excerpt>

A 36-year-old woman from Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China, said she had her life-changing moment when she gave birth just four hours after knowing she was pregnant. The amazing incident has gained much attention on Chinese social media.

The South China Morning Post reports a woman, Gong, who presented herself at the emergency room of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital with hypertension. An eight-month pregnancy was unexpectedly discovered in her.It is reported that Gong had abnormal menstruation periods, and that was the reason for the doctor to conduct the ultrasound.

Doctors realized that her condition was an emergency, so they conducted an emergency caesarean section and delivered a healthy baby boy weighing 2 kg. Gong exclaimed in amazement, “There were only four hours from finding out I was pregnant to the birth of my baby.

Gong had previously been diagnosed with a womb syndrome, and she had resigned herself to the fact that she would never have children. The condition had seen her and her husband consider IVF, but doctors advised her to lose some weight before proceeding. According to the report, Gong was tall and obese and loved desserts; however, the report did not disclose her weight.

The surprise pregnancy and delivery highlight a very interesting twist of events, bringing to light other similar cases in the same hospital. Obstetrician Dr. Yang Liwei said that women who are heavier may not even feel the symptoms of pregnancy because they do not gain much weight and the fetus does not move much. “Women not knowing they are pregnant will not take a prenatal examination, which makes it hard to ensure the safety of both the mother and the baby,” Dr. Yang explained.

In another instance, years prior, a 100-kg woman admitted for surgery was found to be 23 weeks pregnant. These cases highlight the challenges of diagnosing pregnancies in women with obesity, further emphasizing the importance of regular medical evaluations.

Hailie’s pregnancy journey had been a topic of discussion months earlier when she and her podcast co-host, Brittany Ednie, revealed that the couple had kept the pregnancy a secret prior to their wedding in May. By exchanging drinks to give the impression that Hailie was still drinking, the pair was able to conceal the pregnancy during their wedding party.

Hailie called the nursery “the most special project yet” as she and Evan started working on it in October in anticipation of the arrival of their child. In a November Just A Little Shady podcast episode, the couple subsequently announced they were expecting a boy.

</excerpt>

Pregnancy is a unique and transformative journey, filled with excitement, anticipation, and physical changes. However, it is also a time when many women experience a whirlwind of emotions and mood swings. These emotional fluctuations are often influenced by hormonal changes, physical discomfort, and the psychological impact of impending parenthood.

One of the most significant contributors to emotional changes during pregnancy is the surge of hormones. These hormones, crucial for maintaining pregnancy, can also impact neurotransmitters in the brain, which regulate mood. As a result, pregnant women may feel irritable, anxious, or overly emotional without any apparent cause. Recognizing that these mood swings are a normal part of the process can help reduce the frustration and guilt that may arise when emotions feel difficult to control.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is another key strategy for managing pregnancy-related emotions. Regular exercise, walking or prenatal yoga, can release endorphins, the body’s natural mood elevators. Physical activity not only helps in alleviating stress but also improves sleep quality, during pregnancy. Adequate rest is essential for emotional well-being, as fatigue can exacerbate irritability and mood swings.

Nutrition also plays a vital role in emotional health during pregnancy. Eating a balanced diet rich in nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, folic acid, and iron can have a positive effect on mood regulation. Moreover, regular meals and snacks can help stabilize blood sugar levels, preventing the mood dips that often accompany hunger or low energy.

Emotional support from loved ones is invaluable during pregnancy. Open communication with a partner, family members, or close friends can help ease feelings of loneliness or anxiety. Talking about fears, joys, and concerns provides a sense of relief and allows others to offer support. Some women may benefit from joining prenatal support groups where they can share their experiences with others going through similar emotions.

Pregnancy can trigger conditions like anxiety or depression, and in such cases, seeking guidance from a therapist or counselor can be immensely beneficial. Cognitive-behavioral therapy,, for instance, has been shown to be effective in managing anxiety and depression during pregnancy by helping individuals reframe negative thoughts and develop coping strategies.

Mindfulness practices are also highly effective in managing pregnancy-related emotions. Techniques such as meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, and visualization can help reduce stress and enhance emotional regulation. Practicing mindfulness during pregnancy not only benefits emotional health but also fosters a deeper connection with the growing baby.

Managing pregnancy-related emotions and mood swings requires a combination of self-awareness, healthy lifestyle choices, and emotional support. By recognizing that mood fluctuations are a normal part of pregnancy, women can take proactive steps to care for their mental and emotional well-being. Simple strategies such as regular exercise, balanced nutrition, open communication, and mindfulness can make a significant difference in navigating the emotional landscape of pregnancy.

</excerpt>

Did you know the primary factor which determines “when” to get married for most women in India. An insight shared by founder of one of India’s leading matrimonial website- Shaadi.com’s Anupam Mittal is very revealing- “When to get married in the west is decided by when you find a compatible partner (as in the west there is a predominant dating concept). But when to get married is decided when you are of a certain age in India.”

The age is a pronounced factor especially in the case of women on whom lays the responsibility of producing babies. But the question arises- just to have babies, is it ok to gamble your entire life’s happiness. As they say, 99 percent of your life’s happiness comes from the right or wrong partner.

Today technology allows you to not marry in a haste just because your biological clock is ticking away. “You can freeze your eggs if you know you are not getting married anytime soon and you are already in your late twenties,” says Dr Manika Khanna, a leading gynaecologist and pioneer in assisted reproduction in humans (I.V.F) in India. She says she is in the profession that gives women “reproductive freedom. So just marrying early that you might outgrow your reproductive age may land you in a situation where you end up marrying the wrong person simply because you didn’t have enough time to meet the right person. I think both these things can be prevented with the help of technology.”

There is a biological clock for sure which is a fact of life that women have to negotiate with. So what exactly is it? Manika, who is hailed as ‘Mother of Miracles’, explains that biologically, the quality and quantity of eggs decreases with increasing age. Say, a woman is born with a fixed deposit, a bank of 2 lakh eggs at birth. But she will lose a few eggs every menstrual cycle ever since puberty sets in until the age of 45-46, when the ovarian reserve dries down and a woman transitions to menopause. In the case of a man, the sperm gets produced every three months in his body, till the time he is possibly alive. That is why women have menopause and men don’t.

When do women take that call to freeze their eggs? The first tipping point is 30 but age 34 is when a serious dip starts happening. But as soon as the woman clocks 38 years, it becomes very difficult to conceive. So, as Manika puts it- “After 38, we count not in years but months. So ideally if you have crossed your 30 mark, and you know that you are not marrying in the near future, the earlier you do it, the better the number and quality of eggs we might be able to retrieve for you.”

Also what is the meaning of quality, I inquire. Quality simply means two things- the fertilization ability of the egg you know how good it will fertilize and congenital defects in the baby. If a graph is plotted, with increasing age, the risk of congenital defects increases while quality and quantity of eggs decreases.

Is it going against nature? Wasn’t the green/white revolution all about interfering with nature? In the name of “being in sync with nature”, we cannot curb women’s dreams and desires of choosing their partner and right to marry at their own pace. This technology, like any other, comes as an empowering choice for many. As someone said- “It’s like I’m 30 again and been given an additional seven years to find the right person.”

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Gupta shared her approach to self-care during pregnancy, highlighting how she finds comfort in Vikram Seth’s translation of the 100 Mandalas and the Hanuman Chalisa. These practices help her stay grounded after long workdays.

Gupta revealed that self-care has become a significant focus for her. She emphasizes taking care of her skin and belly with intention and has carefully adjusted her diet. Additionally, she has distanced herself from people who do not uplift her, opting instead to spend time with those who offer positive reinforcement. Gupta has also developed a system that allows her to step away from work when necessary without feeling guilty.

She addressed the common negative perceptions surrounding pregnancy and motherhood, expressing her desire to challenge these views. Gupta commented, “People often say, ‘Oh my God, your life is gonna change after a baby comes along,’ but they say it negatively. The whole point of having a baby is to embrace change.”

In June, Gupta shared her experience with body acne on Instagram, referring to the breakouts as ‘baby kisses.’ She described how the acne, which leaves marks every few weeks, troubled her initially but has now become a reminder of the newness of creation. She offered support to others going through similar experiences, acknowledging that hormonal changes can be challenging.

Gupta made her acting debut with the Netflix show ‘Masaba Masaba’ and also appeared in Prime Video’s anthology series ‘Modern Love: Mumbai’.

</excerpt>

Fibroids, also known as uterine leiomyomas or myomas, are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus. These benign tumors vary in size and number, and they are quite common, affecting up to 70% of women by the age of 50. When it comes to pregnancy, the presence of fibroids can introduce a range of challenges and concerns for both the mother and the developing fetus. Understanding the implications of fibroids during pregnancy is crucial for expectant mothers and healthcare providers to manage potential risks and ensure a healthy pregnancy outcome.

Firstly, it is important to recognize that most women with fibroids have uncomplicated pregnancies and deliver healthy babies. However, the size, location, and number of fibroids can influence pregnancy outcomes. Fibroids can grow in different parts of the uterus—submucosal (beneath the lining), intramural (within the muscular wall), and subserosal (on the outer surface). The size of fibroids can range from as small as a pea to as large as a melon. Larger fibroids, particularly those that distort the uterine cavity, can pose a higher risk for complications.

One of the primary concerns with fibroids during pregnancy is the potential for pain and discomfort. As the uterus expands to accommodate the growing fetus, fibroids may also increase in size due to elevated levels of estrogen and progesterone. This can lead to symptoms such as pelvic pain, pressure, and a feeling of fullness. In some cases, fibroids can undergo a process called degeneration, where they outgrow their blood supply and begin to break down, causing severe pain. While this pain is usually manageable with medication and rest, it can be distressing for the expectant mother.

Another significant issue is the potential impact of fibroids on the pregnancy itself. Fibroids can increase the risk of miscarriage, particularly in the first and second trimesters. They can also lead to preterm labor, where contractions begin before the pregnancy reaches full term, posing risks to the baby’s health. Additionally, fibroids that are located near the cervix can obstruct the birth canal, making a cesarean section necessary for delivery. In some cases, fibroids can interfere with the position of the baby, leading to breech presentation (where the baby is positioned feet-first instead of head-first) or transverse lie (where the baby is lying sideways).

During labor, fibroids can cause complications such as abnormal labor patterns, prolonged labor, and postpartum hemorrhage (excessive bleeding after delivery). These complications may necessitate medical interventions such as the use of forceps, vacuum extraction, or a cesarean section. Postpartum, the presence of fibroids can affect the uterus’s ability to contract properly, leading to increased bleeding and a longer recovery period.
Despite these potential complications, many women with fibroids successfully carry their pregnancies to term and deliver healthy babies. Ultrasound examinations can help assess the size and location of fibroids and their impact on the pregnancy. It is important for expectant mothers with fibroids to communicate openly with their healthcare providers about any symptoms or concerns they may have.
Management of fibroids during pregnancy typically focuses on symptom relief and monitoring. Pain management strategies may include the use of acetaminophen, bed rest, and hydration. In rare cases, surgical intervention may be considered, but this is usually avoided due to the risks associated with surgery during pregnancy. Myomectomy, the surgical removal of fibroids, is generally performed before pregnancy or after delivery if necessary.

Final Thoughts
While fibroids can present challenges during pregnancy, they do not necessarily preclude a healthy and successful pregnancy outcome. With proper medical care, monitoring, and management, most women with fibroids can navigate their pregnancies with minimal complications. It is important for expectant mothers to be well-informed about the potential risks and to work closely with their healthcare providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for themselves and their babies.

</excerpt>

For couples on the path to parenthood, understanding how to optimize fertility can significantly improve the chances of conception and a healthy pregnancy. Both partners play an integral role in the process, and there are various strategies that can enhance sperm health and egg quality, ultimately supporting a successful pregnancy.

Focus on a Fertility-Enhancing Diet

A balanced diet rich in essential nutrients is one of the cornerstones of reproductive health.

For Men: Sperm health can be improved by incorporating foods high in antioxidants, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, and selenium. These nutrients help protect sperm from oxidative stress, which can damage sperm DNA and impair fertility. Foods like citrus fruits, nuts, seeds, leafy greens, and seafood are excellent sources.

For Women: Egg quality benefits from a diet that includes folic acid, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids. Folic acid is crucial for DNA synthesis and repair, which is essential for cell division in early pregnancy. Iron supports healthy blood flow to the reproductive organs, and omega-3s help regulate hormones. Foods such as leafy greens, beans, eggs, and fatty fish like salmon should be included in the diet.

Maintain a Healthy Weight

Maintaining a healthy weight is essential for fertility.

Body Mass Index (BMI): Women with a BMI in the range of 18.5-24.9 are more likely to experience regular ovulation, while men within this range typically have healthier sperm. Being underweight or overweight can disrupt hormonal balance, which is critical for reproductive health.

Engage in Regular Physical Activity

Moderate exercise plays a key role in maintaining a healthy weight and reducing stress, both of which are beneficial for fertility.

Exercise for Fertility: Activities like brisk walking, swimming, and yoga are excellent options. However, excessive or intense exercise can lead to hormonal imbalances that may negatively impact ovulation and sperm production, so it’s important to find a balance.

Minimize Exposure to Toxins

Environmental toxins can have a detrimental effect on fertility.

Avoid Harmful Substances: Limiting exposure to pesticides, heavy metals, and chemicals found in plastics can protect sperm and egg quality. Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and recreational drug use should also be avoided, as they are known to impair reproductive health.

Heat Exposure: Men should be cautious about exposure to excessive heat, which can negatively affect sperm production. This includes avoiding hot tubs, saunas, and placing laptops directly on the lap.

Manage Stress Levels

Chronic stress can lead to hormonal imbalances, which can hinder fertility in both men and women.

Stress Reduction Techniques: Incorporating relaxation techniques like meditation, deep breathing, and yoga can help manage stress. Engaging in activities that bring joy and relaxation, such as hobbies or spending time with loved ones, can also improve overall well-being and fertility.

Consider Nutritional Supplements

Certain supplements can provide additional support for fertility.

Prenatal Vitamins: Women should start taking prenatal vitamins that include folic acid before conception to improve egg quality and reduce the risk of neural tube defects.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10): This powerful antioxidant is beneficial for both egg and sperm quality, as it helps reduce oxidative damage.

L-Carnitine and Vitamin D: L-Carnitine supports sperm motility, while Vitamin D plays a role in both male and female fertility. Ensuring adequate levels of these nutrients, either through diet or supplements, is important for reproductive health.

Schedule Regular Medical Check-Ups

Regular medical check-ups can help identify any potential issues early on.

Preconception Check-Up: Both partners should consider scheduling a preconception check-up to assess overall health and address any potential concerns that might affect fertility. A healthcare provider can offer personalized advice and recommend any necessary lifestyle changes or treatments.

Ovulation Monitoring: Women can track their ovulation cycle using methods such as basal body temperature monitoring, ovulation predictor kits, or observing changes in cervical mucus. Identifying the most fertile days can increase the chances of conception.

Fertility is a complex interplay of various factors, and both partners need to be proactive in adopting healthy lifestyle choices. By focusing on a balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight, engaging in regular exercise, managing stress, and avoiding harmful substances, couples can significantly improve their chances of conception. Regular medical guidance is also essential to ensure that any underlying issues are addressed promptly. With these strategies, couples can enhance their fertility and increase the likelihood of a successful and healthy pregnancy.

</excerpt>

Pregnancy is a special experience in a woman’s life that marks a significant transformation. During pregnancy , a woman goes through many physical, emotional, and lifestyle changes. This period is often surrounded by myths and misconceptions, particularly for those who are in their 30s. One of the reasons for the existence of these myths is the change in society and the timing of major life events. Advancements in medical technology and a better understanding of health and fertility have shown that many of these fears are unfounded. Here are five common myths about pregnancy after 30:

Myth 1: Fertility drops after 30
One of the most common myths is that women’s fertility drops immediately after they turn 30. Fertility indeed declines with age, but it is not as sudden as people believe. Around the age of 35, the decline in fertility is not noticeable; even then, many women can and do conceive naturally. Advances in technology like IVF are available for those who face challenges in conceiving.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can increase your chances of getting pregnant. You can plan a preconception visit to your Doctor.

Myth 2: Higher Risk of Birth Defects
Another common myth is that pregnancies after 30 have a higher risk of defects at birth. While the risk of chromosomal abnormalities increases with maternal age, like Down syndrome, the risk remains low. Birth defects can occur even at a lower maternal age. Many diagnostic tests are available by which birth defects can be diagnosed early.

Myth 3: Pregnancy After 30 is Complicated
Many believe that pregnancy after 30 is often filled with complications; however, this is not necessarily the case. With the right medical care and a healthy lifestyle, many women in their 30s experience healthy and uncomplicated pregnancies. Factors that contribute to a healthy pregnancy include regular prenatal checkups, a nutrition-rich diet, regular exercise , avoiding harmful substances and reducing stress. It is important to monitor your pregnancy and ensure that you get the best prenatal care possible.Women over 30 are more financially stable and emotionally prepared, which has a positive influence on pregnancy.

Myth 4: It’s Harder to Bounce Back Physically
It is believed that women who conceive after 30 will find it more difficult to recover physically from postpartum. While age affects recovery time, many women are still fit, active, and able to recover after childbirth in their 30s. The ability to heal is influenced by factors like genes, health, and pre-pregnancy fitness. To have a smoother postpartum experience, it is important to stay active during pregnancy, follow medical advice, and allow adequate time for recovery.

Myth 5: It’s Too Late to Start a Family
The most discouraging myth after the 30s is that it’s too late to start a family. This myth ignores the reality that women successfully start their families in their 30s and 40s when they are financially stable. In modern times, women ideally focus on their career and personal growth during their 20s, which makes the 30s an ideal time to plan a family. Moreover, maturity and life experience gained at this age provide a strong foundation for parenting.

The decision to have children is a personal choice, and this decision must be based on the correct information. Women in their 30s have different options and resources available to support their health and pregnancy. The myths that surround pregnancy after 30 are exaggerated and do not inform women about the reality. With the right care, support, and information, women can experience a healthy pregnancy and the joy of motherhood. While there are risks associated with pregnancy after 30 years, by being aware of all the available options and the medical advancements, women can approach pregnancy with confidence and peace of mind. Your ObGyn doctor is there to help you have the healthiest pregnancy possible, no matter your age.

</excerpt>

On Saturday, Richa posted a series of pictures on her Instagram account, expressing how she never feels alone because of the constant reminders from her unborn baby.

Constant Reminders

In her post, Richa wrote, “The discomfort is lonely, but it’s because I’m not alone. I have constant reminders in the form of tiny waves of movement, a knee, a sudden kick, a feeling of someone listening in… Waiting for a bud to blossom. Aaja yaar.”

Sharing the Good News

Richa and Ali Fazal are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their first child. The couple announced the pregnancy news in February, sharing an image on Instagram that read “1 + 1 = 3” with the caption, “A tiny heartbeat is the loudest sound in our world.”

Their Love Story

Richa and Ali met on the sets of the movie “Fukrey” in 2012 and soon fell in love. They have been legally married since 2020, but celebrated their union with grand festivities in 2022 across Delhi, Mumbai, and Lucknow.

Richa’s Current Projects

</excerpt>

In celebration of Mother’s Day, Dr Nitika Sobti and Sister BK Shivani hosted an impactful event titled, “Create Your Child’s Personality Within the Womb.” The event highlighted how pregnancy is more than a physical journey; it is also a transformative emotional and spiritual experience, influencing the future personality of the unborn child.

Pregnancy is a time of immense change, affecting the body, mind, and soul. For many women, it’s also an opportunity for deep spiritual reflection and connection. Dr Nitika Sobti, Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, and Founder of Virtue Baby, emphasized that pregnancy is a powerful period to connect with something greater than ourselves, shaping the mental and emotional well-being of both mother and child.

The event was attended by over 400 parents and dignitaries from various sectors. The central theme was educating expecting parents on how to nurture their baby’s personality before birth, drawing from the ancient wisdom of Garbh Sanskar. This traditional practice, modernized by Dr Sobti, involves prenatal development techniques, fetal psychology, and spiritual bonding.

Sister BK Shivani, Teacher & Spiritual Guide, shared insights on the importance of how expectant parents can influence their child’s emotional resilience with a positive mindset and high-vibrational speech. “The Parenting Mantra is straightforward: ‘Just BE what you want your child to be.’ Consuming spiritual content, practicing meditation, and adhering to holistic lifestyle can empower mothers to instill the right Sanskaras in their children,” she said.

During the session, Dr Sobti stressed on the importance of nurturing the soul during pregnancy, highlighting how the mental well-being of parents can impact the lifelong health of their children. “This soul is not just a potential being; it is a living, growing entity that absorbs everything from the mother. The thoughts she thinks, the emotions she feels, and the spiritual practices she engages in all contribute to the foundational health and personality of her child,” she explained.

Highlighting how the mental well-being of parents, particularly during the transformative period of pregnancy, can have a profound impact on their child’s lifelong health, Dr Sobti explained that positive mental health practices can lead to lower risks of high blood pressure, diabetes, and other metabolic syndromes in their children, underscoring the crucial nature of this formative time. “The foundation for a healthy life, including reduced risks of chronic illnesses, is laid during these precious months,” she explained.

Dr Sobti also shared testimonies from her own practice, recounting experiences where mindful and spiritually-aware pregnancies led to remarkable outcomes for both mother and child. She spoke of mothers who—through meditation, positive affirmations, and a supportive environment—gave birth to healthy, emotionally-resilient and spiritually-attuned children.

Dr Sobti and Sister Shivani provided valuable advice on prenatal bonding and the significance of ancient practices in modern times. It included practical sessions on meditation, visualization, and other spiritual techniques that expecting parents can use to positively influence their unborn child’s personality.

Dr Sobti concluded, “It is essential to understand that the mindset you cultivate during these months of pregnancy is not just about preparing for the birth of a child, but about shaping the very essence of who they will become. Your thoughts, emotions, and actions are powerful tools that can positively influence your child’s physical health, emotional resilience, and spiritual growth.”

The girl’s mother hurried to the Supreme Court following the Bombay High Court’s refusal on April 4 to grant permission for a medical termination of the pregnancy.

On Monday, the Supreme Court granted permission for a 14-year-old rape survivor to have an abortion despite being over 29 weeks pregnant, emphasizing that continuing the pregnancy could pose risks to the girl’s physical and mental well-being. “These are very, very exceptional cases where we have to protect the children…every passing hour is very crucial for her,” said a bench chaired by Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, ordering the minor’s safe abortion.

During an extended Friday night session beyond the regular court hours, the bench, which included Justice JB Pardiwala, instructed Mumbai’s Sion Hospital to investigate right away if the girl’s or the fetus’s physical or mental health could be in danger if the pregnancy is carried out, and they asked for a report by Monday, April 22.

After the Bombay High Court on April 4 rejected the girl’s mother’s appeal for a medical termination of the pregnancy, the girl’s mother hurried to the Supreme Court.

Aishwarya Bhati, the Centre’s additional solicitor general, sought the bench to use its exceptional powers under Article 142 on Monday to bring the case to a full conclusion. She did this by citing a medical assessment that indicated the minor’s well-being may be affected by the continuation of the pregnancy.

After accepting her plea, the court used its authority under Article 142 to order the minor’s pregnancy to be immediately terminated, mentioning the minor’s age and the alleged sexual assault. “Bearing in mind the exigency of the situation and well-being of the minor, we set aside the order of the Bombay High Court,” stated the court, ordering a group of medical professionals from Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital in Sion to perform the pregnancy termination.

The attorney representing the Maharashtra government agreed to pay for the procedure’s medical costs.

The high court made its decision on April 4 based on an evaluation conducted by a medical board comprised of doctors from Mumbai’s JJ Hospital. However, the petition contended that the girl had not had a sufficient examination and called for the Supreme Court to get involved.

The bench on Friday emphasized the need for such consideration in light of the girl’s stressful pregnancy circumstances and underlined the lack of a thorough evaluation of her physical and mental state in the medical reports.

On that day, the court gave instructions for a medical board of doctors at Sion Hospital to assess the minor’s health on Saturday, April 20, in light of the sexual assault she had experienced.

Abortions beyond 24 weeks are normally illegal under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, unless the woman’s life is in grave danger or there are significant fetal abnormalities.

</excerpt>

Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli, who took an extended break from the sport during the national team’s 5-match Test series against England, has returned to cricketing obligations. Kohli abstained from cricketing commitments to support his wife Anushka Sharma during the latter stages of her pregnancy. He revealed that the couple welcomed a baby boy named Akaay. After Akaay’s arrival, Kohli continued to prioritize family time but has now resumed his cricketing duties in preparation for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

Virat was seen at the airport upon his return to India to rejoin his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. Earlier reports suggested that the top-order batsman would likely link up with his teammates in Bengaluru before the RCB ‘Unbox’ event. This event is set to take place in Bengaluru on March 19.

Royal Challengers Bangalore commenced their pre-tournament camp without their top player Virat Kohli, who is expected to join in a few days before the team kicks off its IPL campaign against reigning champions Chennai Super Kings on March 22.

The majority of domestic players assembled at the camp under the supervision of new head coach Andy Flower and Director of Cricket Mo Bobat. They engaged in training sessions on the camp’s inaugural day on Wednesday. While skipper Faf du Plessis and West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph were present, Virat Kohli, undoubtedly the biggest draw in Indian cricket, is still finding his rhythm after taking a break for paternity reasons, which kept him out of the high-profile five-Test series against England.

“Kohli is expected to join in the next few days,” a BCCI source, who is monitoring developments within IPL teams, informed PTI.

Kohli could potentially debut for the franchise at ‘RCB Unbox’, a prestigious yearly event held in the Garden City where fans catch a glimpse of their beloved stars.

</excerpt>

The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) on Monday informed the Delhi High Court that the medical examination of a woman seeking termination of a 27-week abnormal pregnancy is underway. The High Court listed the matter tomorrow at 4 PM.
Justice Prathiba M Singh was informed by the AIIMS through an interim report that the petitioner was examined and further examination is underway. Justice Singh noted the submission and directed for a final report to be filed. The matter will be heard at 4 PM tomorrow.

The High court on Friday directed the AIIMS to constitute a medical board to examine the woman who has sought permission to terminate 27 weeks of pregnancy. The woman has said that the foetus is suffering from cardiac abnormality.
“Considering the nature of abnormality let the AIIMS constitute a medical board,” the bench had said.

The woman has approached the court through advocate Anwesh Madhukar seeking permission to terminate the pregnancy, as court found abnormality in the foetus. The subsquent fault of cardiac abnormality was found, thereafter the case was referred to a foetal medicine expert.

It is stated that no abnormality was found in the ultrasound done on 5 January, 2023.
The Petitioner is a 32-year-old married woman who is currently at a 27 weeks gestational age and by way of the instant petition, she has sought the intervention of the High Court in passing directions to conduct medical termination of her pregnancy under Section 3(2B), Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 (as amended by the MTP Amendment Act, 2021).
Given the fact that time is of the essence in the present case and also owing to the substantial foetal abnormalities, the Petitioner has approached this Court for enforcement of her ‘Right to life under Article 21, Constitution of India, and has sought directions against the Respondents qua medical termination of her pregnancy under Section 3(2B), Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act,1970, the petition stated.

The Centre on Wednesday informed Delhi High Court that a 14-year-old has admitted to AIIMS for terminating pregnancy at about four months following consensual sex between teens.

The matter will be heard on 23 January. Judge Prathiba M Singh was enlightened by the counsel for the central government that according to the medical board, the minor admitted at the All India Institue of Medical Sciences was regulated the medication. The advice additionally positioned the report of the medical Board before the seat.

The youngster had moved toward the high court through her mom looking for clinical abortion as she is minor and unmarried.
The pregnancy being referred to emerged out of consensual sexual activity between the minor girl and a minor kid.
The mother of the young lady moved a request through advocate Amit Mishra looking for the end of the pregnancy without informing the neighborhood police.

It is presented that the young lady is a minor and the kid is in close connection with the family. However reporting the matter is required to the nearby police under the POCSO Act, this would bring social disgrace, segregation, and harassment to the minor as well as to the whole family.
The plea said that the young girl is not ready to proceed with the pregnancy as she isn’t arranged physically and mentally to bring up a kid.

It is also said that continuing with the pregnancy would make colossal injury to her physical and psychological well-being. It is implored to grant the candidate to abort the pregnancy at any Administration Medical clinic and explicitly at AIIMS.

It is submitted that the MTP Act permits for termination of pregnancy of up to 20 weeks if the registered medical practitioner believes that the continuation of the pregnancy would cause risk to the woman’s life or grave injury to her physical and mental health. As per the ultrasound report of 6 January , 2023, the gestation, in this case, is of 15 weeks and 4 days, the petition stated.

“The right of a pregnant woman to terminate her pregnancy or abort her foetus has been the subject matter of debate across the world. This right gives the woman the ultimate choice as to whether she wants to give birth to the child she has conceived. India is among the countries which recognize this choice of a woman in its law,” the court said.

However, after the order of the Delhi High Court, the committee of doctors of Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan Hospital said that the removal of the foetus is not right.

After this, the High Court talked to some doctors and ordered the removal of the foetus.

The woman had sought permission to remove her 33-week-old fetus. It was stated in the petition that since the conception, the petitioner had undergone several ultrasounds.

The court allowed to undergo medical termination of pregnancy immediately at LNJP, GTB, or any other.

Moreover, the court said weighing all factors the petitioner was taking an informed decision to terminate her pregnancy.

However, the court also talked about the ‘severe dilemma’ that women undergo while deciding to terminate a pregnancy.

“The emergence of modern technology to detect abnormalities in an unborn child, the issues surrounding termination and abortion are bound to become more and more complex. Such technology coupled with the unpredictability of the degree of an abnormality even by medical practitioners throw challenges to the manner in which a society may grow in the future,” the court said.

Earlier on 12 November, an ultrasound examination revealed that the fetus in the woman’s womb had a cerebral disorder. The petitioner woman underwent a private ultrasound examination on 14 November to confirm the ultrasound test. In that too, a cerebral disorder was detected in the fetus.

Furthermore, The counsel appearing for the petitioner cited a judgment of the Bombay High Court and the Calcutta High Court that allowed the removal of the fetus under Sections 3(2)(b) and 3(2)(d) of the MTP Act.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday allowed a 33-week pregnant woman to terminate a 33-week-old foetus due to serious brain abnormalities discovered in the foetus’s MRI.

The Delhi High Court said while doing so, “The Court comes to the conclusion that the mother’s choice is ultimate. Considering this, the Court holds that the medical termination be allowed. The petitioner is permitted to undergo termination immediately at the LNJP Hospital or any other hospital of her choice.”

“There exists considerable doubt and risk regarding the unborn child’s chances of leading a dignified and self-sustaining life based upon the medical evidence and report,” the court said while allowing a woman’s prayer for termination of pregnancy, which is in an advanced stage.

“In such cases, the medical board’s opinion in cases of pregnancy termination is critical for court assistance.Such opinions cannot be sketchy and fragmented. They ought to be comprehensive in nature,” the court said.

The Delhi High Court on Monday reserved its order on a petition by a 26-year-old woman seeking to terminate her 33-week pregnancy on account of the foetus suffering from certain cerebral abnormalities.

The woman approached the high court last week after the GTB Hospital denied her request for a pregnancy termination on the grounds that the situation required judicial intervention because the petitioner’s current gestational age exceeded the permitted limit, which is 24 weeks as per the amended Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, which came into effect on September 24, 2021.

The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that an unmarried woman, like married women, can have an abortion up to 24 weeks under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act. According to the Supreme Court, sexual assault by husbands can take the form of rape, and the definition of rape under the MTP Act and Rules for the purposes of abortion must include the definition of marital rape.

The rulings came as the Supreme Court was set to rule today on whether an unmarried woman in a consensual relationship can seek abortion of pregnancy of 20-24 weeks term.

According to Justice DY Chandrachud, the interpretation of the MTP act must reflect social realities. As society changes, social mores change and evolve, and laws must not remain static in order to advance the cause.

“Unsafe abortions are preventable. Our understanding of mental health has to be considered in common parlance. Account must be taken of a pregnant woman’s environment,” the Supreme Court said.

“Married women may also form part of survivors of sexual assault or rape. A woman may become pregnant due to a non-consensual act by her husband. Sex and gender-based violence in all its form have been part of families,” Justice Chandrachud said.
