Congress ‘Misusing Power’ Says BJP’s Pralhad Joshi After CT Ravi’s Interim Bail

Bharatiya Janata Party CT Ravi who is said to have used a ‘derogatory’ word about Karnataka Women & Child Development minister Laxmi Hebbalkar was let out on bail on Sunday.

The minister apparently called Hebbalkar a prostitute and made lewd gestures at her, Horatti told the Legilative Council.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi accused the Congress government in Karnataka of “misusing” power days after interim bail was granted to the BJP MLC CT Ravi in an alleged derogatory remark case.

CT Ravi was arrested by the Bengaluru police on Thursday based on a complaint by state minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar for allegedly using derogatory remarks against her in the Legislative Council. He was subsequently released after an interim order passed by the Karnataka High Court on Friday.

“It is a misuse of power. They do not believe in Democracy and the Constitution,” Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said taking a swipe at the Congress government in Karnataka.

“They are trying to misuse not only the power, they are also trying to curb political activities of their political opponents,” Joshi alleged.

After his release, Ravi questioned his arrest, claiming that he was shifted around four districts arbitrarily. “Why was I arrested? Why was I continuously shifted to four districts? CM says that due to security reasons they did this…Giving security in PS is difficult for them, but giving security at an isolated place is easy for them,” the BJP leader said.

Minister Hebbalkar on Friday replied to the alleged derogatory remarks made at the Karnataka legislative assembly, while speaking to reporters at her residence in Belagavi, Karnataka.

Expressing her distress over the alleged remarks, she said that when the BJP leader called Rahul Gandhi a “drug addict,” she asked whether his being in accidents made him a murderer.”

After completing the protest (against remarks of Amit Shah), we were seated. I, too, was sitting quietly in my seat. At that time, CT Ravi called Rahul Gandhi a drug addict. In response, I said, Even you have been in accidents does that make you a murderer..??,” she told reporters.

While narrating the incident, she said, “Following this, CT Ravi used derogatory words against me. I am also a mother…People look up to me and believe that thousands should enter politics inspired by me.”

Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday condemned the alleged derogatory remarks of CT Ravi, calling it “a criminal offence.”

“The word used by CT Ravi on Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar was condemnable. It is a criminal offence. Ravi, who was the national general secretary of BJP, said such a thing which is shameful,” Siddaramaiah said.

“Other Vidhan Parishad members have heard Ravi use that word,” he added.

A day after Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat raised concerns over the lack of control on content in OTT platforms, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi expressed support for the statement, emphasizing that the government shares similar concerns.

Speaking to ANI on Sunday, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi assured that the government is already examining the issue of inappropriate content on OTT platforms. “We completely agree with that. This is a worldwide problem. The government will always think about that, and the concerned ministry will take action,” Joshi stated. He added that the authorities are working on the matter based on feedback received from various quarters.

RSS Chief Raises Alarm Over OTT Impact on Youth

In his annual Vijayadashami speech on Saturday in Nagpur, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat voiced apprehension over the negative influence that certain content on OTT platforms is having on children and youth. Bhagwat pointed out that mobile phones have become widely accessible to children, and there is little control over what they watch. He warned that the propagation of poor values through these platforms is damaging the minds of Bharat’s younger generation.

Call for Legal Monitoring and Regulations

Bhagwat highlighted the need for stricter regulations and legal monitoring to curb the “disgusting” content reaching homes through OTT platforms, especially content viewed by children. He urged for laws to be implemented to prevent the spread of perverted visual content and advertisements, stressing that the protection of societal values is a priority.

The RSS chief also noted that while there is a growing sense of self-pride in society, particularly among the youth, there is a pressing need to address the negative effects of unregulated content online.

As the government examines the issue further, the public awaits actions that may potentially regulate and control OTT content to ensure it aligns with decency and cultural values. Further announcements from the concerned ministry are expected in the coming weeks.

PM Modi Calls for Global Collaboration on Green Hydrogen

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen, urging the global scientific community to collaborate and provide suggestions to shape policies in the green hydrogen sector. He emphasized India’s ambition to become a global hub for the production, utilization, and export of green hydrogen.

“I urge the global scientific community to come together to explore various aspects. Scientists and innovators can suggest changes in public policy to help the green hydrogen sector. We want to make India a global hub for the production, utilization and export of Green Hydrogen,” said PM Modi.

India’s Commitment to Energy Transition and Sustainability

PM Modi highlighted that the world is undergoing a significant transformation and that a strong commitment to energy transition and sustainability is crucial. He praised India’s leadership, noting that the country was the first among G-20 nations to meet the Paris Agreement’s green energy targets, achieving this nine years ahead of the 2030 deadline.

“India’s non-financial fossil fuel capacity has increased by nearly 300 percent over the past decade, while solar energy capacity surged by over 3,000 percent in the same period. But we are not resting on these acts. We remain focused on strengthening existing solutions,” the Prime Minister added.

Green Hydrogen as a Solution to Decarbonize Industries

The Prime Minister stressed the potential of green hydrogen to decarbonize industries that are challenging to electrify, such as refineries, fertilizers, steel, and heavy-duty transportation. He mentioned that the National Green Hydrogen Mission is driving innovation, infrastructure, and investment in the sector.

“India has already launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission which is giving an impetus to innovation, infrastructure, and investments. We are investing in cutting-edge, research and development. Part between industry and academia are being formed,” Modi remarked.

India’s Advantage in Producing Green Hydrogen

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, pointed out that India has a natural advantage in producing green hydrogen due to its abundant solar energy and advancements in the power grid. He shared that India’s installed solar capacity has increased 32 times, from 2.6 GW in 2014 to 85.5 GW, and the country boasts one of the largest synchronous grids globally.

Launching a scathing attack against the opposition parties over opposing the Bill to amend the Waqf Act, 1995, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Thursday said that they(opposition) want to misguide some people in the community and are trying to tarnish the image of India.

“We are not targeting anyone. They (Opposition) want to only create an atmosphere. Our minister will explain in detail when he introduces the bill. They want to misguide some people in the community. They are trying to tarnish the image of India. We are one of the best democracies in the world…” said Union Minister Pralhad Joshi.

Meanwhile, RJD MP Misa Bharti stated that INDIA alliance parties and RJD will oppose this bill. Adding to that, she emphasised, “The government is not talking on issues of unemployment, inflation…”

Calling the motives of the government “sinister”, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram said, “As I’ve said, the motives of the government are always sinister and I think we will be opposing this bill and there’s been no wider consultation with stakeholders and we think it should be referred to the Standing Committee before it’s brought to passing in the House.

Showcasing opposition against the Waqf amendment, TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said, “This amendment bill should come through the Standing Committee. We (the opposition) will oppose this bill unitedly…”

Notably, apart from introducing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, Kiren Rijiju will also introduce The Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2024 which seeks to repeal the Mussalman Wakf Act, 1923. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, Waqf Act provides for the renaming of the Waqf Act, 1995, as the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995It seeks to clearly define “waqf” as waqf by any person practising Islam for at least five years and having ownership of such property and ensure that the creation of Waqf-alal-aulad does not lead to the denial of inheritance rights to women.

The bill aims to define “waqf” as property held by individuals practicing Islam for at least five years and who have ownership of the property. It also seeks to ensure that establishing Waqf-alal-aulad does not exclude women from inheritance rights. Additionally, the bill proposes eliminating provisions related to “waqf by user,” transferring the responsibilities of the Survey Commissioner to the Collector or a designated officer of Deputy Collector rank for surveying waqf properties. It also calls for a more inclusive composition of the Central Waqf Council and State Waqf Boards, ensuring representation of both, Muslim women and non-Muslims.

The bill, as outlined in the statement of objects and reasons, aims to establish separate Boards of Auqaf for Boharas and Aghakhanis. It also seeks to ensure representation for Shia, Sunni, Bohra, Agakhani, and other marginalised groups within the Muslim communities. Additionally, the bill proposes streamlining waqf registration through a central portal and database and introduces a detailed process for property mutation according to revenue laws, including giving proper notice to all relevant parties before officially designating any property as waqf.

The bill aims to remove Section 40, which grants the Board the authority to determine whether a property is classified as waqf. It also proposes that mutawallis file waqf accounts with the Board via a central portal to enhance oversight of their activities. The bill includes plans to reform the Tribunal by reducing its membership to two members and allows for appeals against Tribunal decisions to be taken to the High Court within ninety days. According to sources, the Business Advisory Committee has decided that the Waqf Amendment Bill will be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. Opposition parties are advocating for the bill to be reviewed by the standing committee.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar reach at Jantar Mantar to attend tax devolution protest

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar have reached at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, initiating a protest named Chalo Delhi against the Central government’s tax devolution policies towards the southern state. The demonstration is witnessing the participation of several cabinet ministers from the Congress government.

Siddaramaiah has accused the Central government of perpetuating economic disparities, asserting that his government opposes the unjust treatment in tax devolution and grants for the people of Karnataka. In a pre-protest statement, DK Shivakumar emphasized their demand for rightful entitlements, stating, “We are asking for our rights, we are getting only 13 per cent of what we are supposed to get. I do not mind if other states benefit. The policies and schemes that they (Centre) have given to Gujarat, they should extend the same to us.”

State minister Priyank Kharge highlighted various demands, including tax devolution and the release of drought relief funds. He emphasized that Karnataka, as an economic powerhouse, deserves fair consideration from the central government.

Simultaneously, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka MPs are staging protests in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament, focusing on the alleged misappropriation of funds by the Siddaramaiah government. BJP MP Lehar Singh accused the Congress of corruption and mismanagement, attributing their protest to internal disputes.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi dismissed Siddaramaiah’s accusations of reduced tax devolution share by the Centre, labeling it as baseless and asserting that the Karnataka Chief Minister is engaging in dirty politics. Pralhad Joshi accuses Opposition of Hypocrisy in MP Suspension

A day after the Winter Session of Parliament was adjourned sine die; Union Minister Pralhad Joshi launched a scathing attack on opposition leaders for the suspension of MPs from both Houses, asserting that they themselves requested the suspension.

Addressing a press briefing in the national capital, Joshi highlighted the passage of 19 bills on Thursday, including the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.

“Under the leadership of PM Modi, three bills—Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023; Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023—were passed in Parliament yesterday. A total of 19 bills were passed in Parliament during the winter session,” stated the Union Minister.
Joshi criticized the opposition for the suspension of MPs, stating, “They themselves came and said to suspend them.

Parliament Winter Session: Lok Sabha suspends five congress MPs till end of winter session

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved a motion on Thursday to suspend five Congress members from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the winter session due to their “unruly behavior.” He introduced the motion after informing the House of the actions taken following the security breach that occurred yesterday, when two men leaped from the visitor’s gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber. The House adjourned earlier in the day, and the motion was made shortly after it reconvened at 2:00 PM.

Joshi moved the motion to suspend Congress MPs – TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, S Jothimani, Ramya Haridas and Dean Kuriakose – for the remainder of the winter session, which will conclude on December 22.
BJD’s Bhartruhari Mahtab was on the chair when the motion was moved and adopted amid sloganeering by opposition members.
Joshi said that Speaker Om Birla has written to the Home Secretary for a high-level inquiry into yesterday’s incident and the probe has begun.
He cited instances from the past, including when papers were thrown from the visitors gallery, and such unfortunate incidents had occurred earlier too. He called upon opposition members not to “politicise” the issue.

Parliament’s Winter Session to Encompass 21 Bills, Including Crucial Financial Items

The upcoming Winter Session of Parliament is poised to address a significant legislative agenda with 21 items on the docket, including two vital financial bills, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi disclosed after an all-party meeting held ahead of the session’s commencement.

Minister Joshi outlined, “We are introducing 19 bills along with two financial items, totaling 21 items for discussion. Key among these are bills related to central universities, constitutional orders, and several crucial amendments.”

The legislative list encompasses significant proposals such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, Repealing and Amending Bill, and the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, among others.

Scheduled to commence on December 4 and conclude on December 22, this session will witness 15 sittings over a span of 19 days. Joshi, speaking about the all-party meeting, highlighted the attendance of 30 leaders from 23 political parties, which resulted in a host of valuable suggestions.

Key bills, including amendments related to Jammu and Kashmir’s Scheduled Castes and Tribes Order, Jammu and Kashmir Reservation, and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation, will also feature in the session’s agenda.

Moreover, proposals such as the Post Office Bill, the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners Bill, the Central Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, and others are set to be discussed.

The financial business scheduled includes the discussion and voting on Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2023–24 and Excess Grants for 2020–21, alongside related Appropriation Bills. These proceedings reflect the significant legislative spectrum awaiting deliberation and action during the Winter Session.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi requests opposition parties to attend Special Parliament Session today

Pralhad Joshi, the minister of union parliamentary affairs, invited the opposition parties to the special parliamentary session starting today on Monday. He claimed that during the all-party meeting on Sunday, the government had already made clear the Special Parliament Session’s agenda.

“Their (Opposition) request for clarification (of agenda) has been made clear in the all-party meeting yesterday. We have already announced our agenda… I request them to attend the Parliament’s journey of 75 years that will be discussed today as PM Modi has taken the oath to make India a developed country before 2047…”

The Parliament will meet in special session from September 18 to September 22. On September 19, parliamentary business will move from the old building to the nearby new cutting-edge structure during the session. Joshi announced on Sunday that the session would consist of five sittings spread over five days and that eight legislative items would probably be discussed.

“Parliamentary journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha – achievements, experiences, memories and learnings” will also be discussed, he said.
On Sunday, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar hoisted the national flag atop “Gaja Dwar” of the new Parliament building. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was also present on the occasion.

Prior to the start of the Special Session of Parliament tomorrow, an all-party meeting got underway in the Parliament Library building. Earlier on Wednesday, Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, announced that the floor leaders of all parties would meet on September 17, the day before the five-day Special Session of Parliament is scheduled to begin. It will be held from September 18 to September 22. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced on social media platform X that “an all-party floor leaders meeting has been convened on the 17th at 4.30 PM, ahead of the parliament session from the 18th of this month.”

‘One Nation, One Election’: Parliamentary affair minister propose to discuss in parliament

Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, announced on Friday that there will be a debate in Parliament about “One Nation, One Election.” Inquiring as to why the Opposition was afraid of the plan, he described it as a development of Indian democracy.

He continued, “There will be a debate in Parliament (on ‘One Nation, One Election’). Why does the opposition seem to be afraid of it? Democracy is an evolving system, and India is where it all began. This is a natural element of evolution.

The minister for parliamentary affairs, however, made no mention of what would be discussed during this special session of Parliament.

In response to a question from a reporter, he replied, “I will discuss the agenda with you later as it relates to the special session.”
A committee led by former president Ram Nath Kovind has been established by the Union government to investigate the viability of “One Nation, One Election,” which calls for holding both the national election and state assembly elections simultaneously.

One Nation, One Election is a concept that has been rejected by the opposition INDIA alliance, which is convening in Mumbai.

Rajya Sabha approves Bill to provide fixed 50-year production lease for offshore minerals

The Offshore Areas Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2023, which establishes a fixed 50-year production lease for offshore minerals, was approved by the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The Offshore Areas Mineral (Development and Regulation) Act, 2002, is being modified by the bill, which was passed by voice vote with the opposition leaving the chamber and not taking part in the discussion.

Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi responded to the discussion of the Bill by stating that its goal is to establish a transparent auction process for the distribution of mines. Additionally, the bill aims to limit the method of granting production leases to the private sector to auctions with open bidding. Additionally, it permits the central government to reserve certain mineral-bearing areas and grant operating rights to the government, a government company, or a corporation without conducting a competitive bidding process.

The Bill, which the Lok Sabha approved on August 1, introduces a composite license for allocating rights for both production and exploration. The exploration must be finished within three years according to the terms of the composite license. Upon request by the licensee, this may be extended for an additional two years. The licensee will be given one or more production leases for the explored area if mineral resources have been confirmed.
