Karnataka HC Adjourns Hearing On MLA HD Revanna’s Petition

The Karnataka High Court has adjourned HD Revanna’s petition, filed on Friday, until June 3. The petition concerns the request to dismiss the FIR related to the kidnapping case involving Prajwal Revanna.

The case, filed at the KR Nagara police station, accuses HD Revanna and others of kidnapping a sexual assault victim by Prajwal Revanna.

Earlier, HD Revanna was arrested regarding kidnapping case on April 29. Later, he was given conditional bail by special court for people representatives.

Meanwhile, JD(S) MP suspended Prajwal Revanna was arrested by SIT on Thursday Night at Bengaluru airport.

After being arrested in obscene video case, he was brought to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital for medical examination.

He arrived at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda Airport on May 31, where Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials were waiting for him. Upon arrival, the Hassan MP was immediately arrested and taken in for questioning regarding the sexual harassment case he is accused of.

Revanna’s return marks a significant development in the case, as the SIT will now interrogate him about the allegations made by multiple women, claiming that he and his father, HD Revanna, sexually abused them over an extended period.

This case has garnered political attention, particularly during the 2024 Lok Sabha election season. The Opposition has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is allied with the Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka, for allegedly protecting Revanna within its party.

In a video released, Prajwal expressed his desire to return home and refuted all allegations against him, asserting they were false. He also conveyed his apology to his family.

Prajwal, aged 33 and the NDA’s candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, is the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former PM H D Deve Gowda. He faces multiple charges of sexual abuse.

Prajwal reportedly left for Germany on April 27, the day after polls in Hassan, and is currently evading authorities.

The Interpol has issued a ‘Blue Corner Notice’ to trace him, following a request from the SIT via the CBI.

An arrest warrant was issued against Prajwal Revanna by a special court for elected representatives on May 18, following an application by the SIT.

In a startling disclosure, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently announced that the request to confiscate Prajwal Revanna’s passport was received only on May 21.

While giving an exclusive interview to ANI, Jaishankar has recently made clarifications on certain existing procedural aspects, saying

“To impound a passport is governed by an act called the Passport Act. We need a judicial court or a police request to do so. The MEA got this request from Karnataka only on May 21.”

Also throwing light on legal procedures adherence, Jaishankar said, that ministry promptly acted, upon receiving the request.

“We immediately acted on it. On 23rd of May… we have to follow a certain procedure and the procedure is initiated.” added External minister.

Later, talking about Congress’s accusation of BJP’s alleged shielding of Prajwal Revanna, Jaishankar added, “They did not take the first step… I mean, he’s not the first case where impounding a passport is taking place.”

This revelation come amidst the time, when Karnataka’s CM Siddaramaiah had recently written to PM Narendra Modi, to urge the latter to cancel Diplomatic Passport, of JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna.

JD(S) head and former prime minister, HD Deve Gowda warns his grandson Prajwal Revanna to come back to India and face the legal proceedings.

Posting the letter on social media platform X, JD(S) patriarch said,

“I spoke to the media about Prajwal Revanna on 18 May when I was headed to the temple to offer pooja. It took me some time to recover from the shock and pain he has inflicted on me, my entire family, my colleagues, friends and party workers…I have already said that he should be given the harshest punishment under the law if found guilty.”

In a major development in Prajwal Revanna’s obscene video scene, the Karnataka government sources have recently disclosed, that the Ministry of External Affairs is processing the cancellation of JD(S)MP, Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport.

Further, the ministry has also confirmed, it has indeed received a letter from Karnataka’s government for diplomatic passport cancellation. Currently, the request is being processed.

What Happens If MEA Cancels Diplomatic Passport

Moreover, if ministry of External affairs indeed cancels Prajwal’s diplomatic Passport, it will be practically impossible for revanna to stay in a foreign country and would be forced to return.

HD Kumaraswamy Appeals Prajwal Revanna To Come Back

In an update to Prajwal Revanna case, JD(S)leader HD Kumaraswamy has recently appealed Hassan’s MP Prajwal Revanna to come back to Karnataka and face the probe.

Talking to a reporter, he said “…I would appeal to him (Prajwal Revanna) to come back to Karnataka and face this investigation… If you have not done anything then why are you afraid, why did you run away?

Further, he also accused Karnataka’s congress government of misusing this issue. And later, he also responded to the allegation of 400 rapes committed made by Rahul Gandhi.

Saying “Where is the small piece of document with Rahul Gandhi? His government is running here. Even Priyanka Gandhi, she also in a public meeting, more than 2000, 3000 incidents took place. That is her charge. They wanted to destroy the strength of the NDA. They are misusing the issue.”

HD Deve Gowda’s Statement

Earlier on May 18, JDS patriarch HD Deve Gowda declared, that all legal avenues should be pursued against Prajwal, however his son HD Revanna was framed in this case.

”HD Kumaraswamy has already spoken on behalf of our family and party regarding the allegations against Prajwal Revanna and HD Revanna. The government must pursue all possible legal avenues against Prajwal Revanna. However, it is evident that the cases against HD Revanna were orchestrated to target him.”said Deve Gowda.

These statements were made around the time when Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah urged the central government, on May 6th, to assist the Karnataka SIT team in their investigation by facilitating the return of Revanna to India.

Talking about central government, Karnataka CM said

“The success of the SIT investigation is now entirely dependent on the cooperation of the Central Government. The central government should cooperate in bringing the accused Prajwal Revanna, who is said to be abroad, to India.”

He further announced, that SIT will conduct fair and an impartial investigation, without any interference from the state government.

BJP Functionary Devarajegowda Detained in Sexual Harassment Case

BJP functionary and advocate G Devarajegowda was apprehended on Friday, a day after he sought anticipatory bail due to fears of being arrested in connection with a sexual harassment case filed against him on April 1.

Sources reported that Devarajegowda was detained near Chitradurga and is currently being transported to Hassan. The allegations against him include sexual harassment, voyeurism, and violation of privacy under the IT Act, with three others also named in the FIR.

The complainant accused Devarajegowda of sexually harassing her, stating that he abused her after she approached him to sell a site 10 months ago.

His detention occurred after he applied for pre-arrest bail before the II Additional District and Sessions Court on May 9. Following the initial hearing on Thursday, the court had scheduled the next hearing for May 15.

Devarajegowda, known for exposing issues, previously raised concerns about obscene videos from Hassan allegedly involving MP Prajwal Revanna in 2023. He also advised the party leadership against forming an alliance with JD(S) for the Lok Sabha election, citing potential backlash from the opposition.

Furthermore, Devarajegowda accused Congress leadership, particularly Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, of orchestrating the release of the sleaze videos. He also claimed that SIT officials coerced him to omit the minister’s name from his statement.

HD Revanna Becomes First Member Of Deve Gowda Family To Face Jail Time

HD Revanna, a JD(S) MLA from Holenarsipur and the son of former PM HD Deve Gowda, was remanded in judicial custody for a week by a special court for elected representatives on Wednesday. This decision came in light of abduction charges filed against him by the KR Nagar police in Mysuru.

As he left the courtroom, Revanna, who is the first member of the Deve Gowda family to be arrested in a criminal case, was visibly emotional and in tears. He was then taken directly to the Central Jail on the southeastern outskirts of the city, where he was assigned the under trial prisoner (UTP) number 4567.

The additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Ravindra Kumar B Kattimani, ordered that Revanna remain in judicial custody until May 14. He will be housed in the VIP block of the prison in Parappana Agrahara, and due to safety concerns, he has been given a single barrack with a dedicated bathroom and other basic facilities not available to other under-trial prisoners.

According to prison officials, Revanna will initially be kept in the admissions room at the jail for a few days to ensure he is free from infectious diseases, after which he will be moved to the relevant barrack.

The decision to remand Revanna in judicial custody came after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) produced him in court following the end of his four-day police custody. The SIT had requested judicial custody, citing non-cooperation from Revanna during interrogation.

During the proceedings, the special public prosecutor BN Jagadeesh stated that Revanna had only given negative answers to all questions during his police custody. Jagadeesh also expressed concerns that if released on bail, Revanna might tamper with prosecution witnesses.

Revanna’s counsel, however, argued against judicial custody, stating that his client’s lack of admission of guilt should not be considered non-cooperation. Revanna himself claimed innocence, stating that he had answered the SIT’s questions over the three days of interrogation, despite suffering from stomach pain. He also described his arrest as a political conspiracy and insisted that he was arrested without a warrant. Additionally, he denied holding any press conference, clarifying that he had only responded to media queries while being taken into SIT custody.

The state government has appointed senior advocates Ashok N Naik and Jayna Kothari as special public prosecutors to represent the SIT in this case.

JD(S) leader HD Revanna, son of former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, has been remanded to judicial custody until May 14. He was arrested on May 4 by officials of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with a kidnapping case filed against him at the KR Nagar police station.

The Case

Prajwal Revanna, a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Janata Dal (Secular), is facing controversy following allegations of involvement in obscene videos. Karnataka police have registered a case against him after a woman, who worked as a house help at his residence, accused him of sexual harassment.

The 47-year-old woman has also implicated HD Revanna, the MLA of Holenarasipur and Prajwal’s father, as a suspect. The case has been filed at the Holenarasipur police station in Karnataka’s Hassan district.

Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, and whose father, HD Revanna, is a former minister, is vying for reelection to the Lok Sabha from the Hassan constituency. Prajwal Revanna ‘Obscene Video Case’: HD Kumaraswamy Alleges 25,000 Pen Drives Involved

JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy alleged on Tuesday that 25,000 pen drives containing sexually explicit videos, purportedly recorded by his nephew Prajwal Revanna, were distributed across Karnataka before the Lok Sabha elections last month. Kumaraswamy accused Congress leader DK Shivakumar of orchestrating this “conspiracy.”

Prajwal Revanna allegedly flew abroad on April 27, following the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls. HD Kumaraswamy claimed that the pen drives were initially circulated in Bengaluru Rural, the constituency of DK Shivakumar’s brother, DK Suresh.

Prajwal Revanna, who is the MP and JD(S) candidate in Karnataka’s Hassan, along with his father MLA H D Revanna, faces allegations of molesting their cook, with an additional case of rape registered against him. Earlier this month, Revanna’s father was arrested in a kidnapping case related to alleged sexual assault. In response to these allegations, the Karnataka government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the charges.

Hinting at DK Shivakumar’s involvement, Kumaraswamy criticized the SIT, dubbing it the “Siddaramaiah Investigation Team” and “Shivakumar Investigation Team.” He questioned why action wasn’t taken against individuals named in complaints related to the distribution of the pen drives, despite his party’s polling agent filing a complaint.

‘Obscene video’ case: Second lookout Notice Issued Against HD Revanna And His son Prajwal

In the midst of investigations into the alleged ‘obscene video’ case, Karnataka Home Minister Gangadharaiah Parameshwara stated on Saturday that a second lookout notice has been issued against both JD(S) MLA HD Revanna and his son, Prajwal Revanna.

“We have issued lookout notices against both HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna. We had issued a lookout notice to HD Revanna as he may plan to go abroad. But the second notice was given yesterday. They have time until this evening to reply to the notices…” Karnataka Home Minister said while speaking to the media on Saturday.

“Revanna has also applied for bail for the Mysore kidnapping case as well. One person has been arrested in the case,” he added.

The first lookout notice was issued against HD Revanna and his son Prajwal Revanna after they sought time to appear before the investigation team.

The Karnataka Home Minister had on Thursday told the media about the lookout notice issued against the father-son duo in the case.

Meanwhile, HD Revanna has been booked on charges of kidnapping in connection with the ‘obscene video’ case. The action was taken based on a complaint lodged by the son of a woman who was allegedly “abducted and sexually abused.”

In his complaint filed to KR Nagar police in Mysuru, the man said his mother worked as a housemaid at HD Revanna’s home for six years before returning to her village, where she worked as a daily wage laborer.

The man later discovered a video allegedly depicting sexual abuse of his mother by incumbent MP and Hassan Lok Sabha candidate Prajwal Revanna. He said that soon after the video was revealed, his mother went missing.

He then filed a kidnapping complaint against HD Revanna and Babanna on Thursday night.

The Holenarsipura MLA and his associate were booked under Sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 365 (kidnapping with intent to cause harm), and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. The FIR, registered by KR Nagar police, also lists HD Revanna as accused number one and another man, identified as Babanna, as accused number two.

The FIR was registered hours before the anticipatory bail plea of HD Revanna came up for hearing in the Special Court for People’s Representatives in Bengaluru on Friday. He skipped the summons to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 2 for questioning.

HD Revanna and his son, Prajwal Revanna, who is the sitting MP and candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, are facing a probe by a Special Investigative Team (SIT), constituted by the Karnataka government, over allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation following a complaint by a woman who worked in their household.

Revanna was booked in an alleged sexual harassment case on April 28 based on a complaint lodged with Holenarasipura Town police. Addressing a media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the Ministry did not issue any visa note for Prajwal to visit any other country.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the Union government to cancel the diplomatic passport of Prajwal and ensure his return by making use of diplomatic and police channels.

On April 23, a man named Sathish Babanna took her away. She returned on April 26. Then, on April 29, Babanna took her again. This time, citing an old legal issue. The son believes her disappearance is linked to a video. It allegedly shows sexual abuse involving Prajwal Revanna.

He confronted Babanna, suspecting foul play. As a result, he filed a kidnapping complaint. HD Revanna and Babanna are accused. They’re charged under relevant sections of the IPC. The FIR was filed just before HD Revanna’s bail hearing. He previously skipped a summons by the SIT.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Hassan district and meet the victims of the alleged obscene video case during Shah’s ongoing election campaign in the state. Shivakumar said, “I appeal to Amit Shah to visit Hassan and meet the victims. Your party only has given a letter, identify them and please meet them.”

Amit Shah, who is in Karnataka for BJP’s election campaigning, recently met the parents of Neha Hiremath, who was stabbed to death, in Hubbali and criticized the Congress party over the alleged obscene video case during a rally in Haveri. He accused the Congress government in Karnataka of allowing suspended JD-S leader Prajwal Revanna to flee despite knowing about the allegations against him, to conclude voting for Lok Sabha polls in Vokkaliga-dominated areas.

Shivakumar responded by targeting JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy and BJP leaders, urging them to visit the victims if they have any respect for women. He said, “Kumaraswamy and BJP leaders talk a lot about women empowerment. If JD(S) and BJP have any respect for women, they must express solidarity with the victims by paying them a visit.”

Kumaraswamy, on the other hand, accused Shivakumar of being involved in circulating the videos and setting up the SIT to probe the matter. He warned, “Those 420 brothers who are making statements against me… must think before speaking. Both 420 brothers cannot hit me and run away. I know how to react and teach.”

Janata Dal (Secular) MP and candidate from Hassan, Prajwal Revanna, who is under scrutiny in connection with an alleged sexual abuse case involving multiple women, has expressed his inability to join the investigation. The Karnataka government formed an SIT to probe videos allegedly implicating Prajwal Revanna in acts of sexual abuse. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah initiated the investigation after receiving a letter from the State Commission for Women (SCW) alleging that “influential politicians sought sexual favours” and “raped some of them.” However, the police have confirmed that Revanna is currently out of the country.

Prajwal, the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and son of former minister and JD(S) leader H D Revanna, contested the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency as the BJP-JD(S) candidate against Congress’s Shreyas M Patel on April 26.

Amidst the scandal involving numerous videos allegedly showing him abusing multiple women, Prajwal is reported to be in Germany. He left just a day after the polling for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat and days before the allegations surfaced.

Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna has been suspended from the Janata Dal (Secular) or JD(S) amid a controversy over explicit videos allegedly showing him sexually assaulting multiple women. The sitting MP from Karnataka’s Hassan constituency has also been issued a show cause notice by the party.

The scandal erupted when video clips, allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna, surfaced on social media shortly after his constituency went to polls. The videos, reportedly numbering in the hundreds, were said to have been shot by Revanna and widely circulated in the Hassan constituency.

A woman filed a police case against Prajwal Revanna, accusing him of sexual assault and stating that she had been abused multiple times between 2019 and 2022. She also alleged that Revanna’s father, HD Revanna, had also sexually assaulted her when his wife was not at home.

Prajwal Revanna has denied the allegations, claiming that the videos being circulated are doctored. He left for Germany on Saturday morning after the videos emerged online.

HD Revanna, also accused in the case, dismissed the allegations as a conspiracy by political rivals, describing the videos as old.

The Karnataka government has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to look into the case, following a recommendation by the state women’s commission.

Regarding reports of Prajwal leaving the country pending a probe, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara stated that Prajwal would be asked to return to India by the SIT.

Nagalakshmi Choudhary, chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women, confirmed receiving a pen drive containing hundreds of explicit videos, some allegedly showing Prajwal Revanna.

BJP Leader Devaraje Gowda claimed to have written to the state president in December last year, flagging “grave allegations” against the HD Deve Gowda family, including Prajwal Revanna. He stated that he had received a pen drive containing 2,976 explicit videos of women, purportedly being used for blackmailing them into continuing sexual activities.

Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy accused the Congress party of distorting facts to tarnish his family’s reputation amid the controversy surrounding his nephew and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna in an ‘obscene’ video case.

When asked if Revanna would be expelled from the JD(S), Kumaraswamy stated, “We are not going to protect him, we will take severe action, but the government’s responsibility is greater.” He added that further information would be provided after a Core Committee meeting of the JD(S).

Kumaraswamy emphasized that neither his party nor his family was responsible for Revanna’s actions. He described the situation as an individual issue concerning Prajwal Revanna and stressed that it was the government’s duty to bring him to justice.

“We are not seeking any protection. We will take severe action, but the government’s responsibility is greater. This is a shameful issue. I am not protecting any person. We have fought against these kinds of illegal things. This is a serious issue. The government has to expose the real picture and the ground reality,” Kumaraswamy stated.
