Anupam Kher announced his collaboration with Prabhas for his 544th film, widely referred to as the ‘Bahubali of Indian cinema’ for a new movie. The film will be directed by Hanu Raghavapudi and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The as-yet-to-titled film will have Hanu Raghavapudi at the helm, the acclaimed director of Sita Ramam. The production is being financed by Mythri Movie Makers, further fueling expectations.

This, however, is easier said than done as one needs one million units to be part of the complex. Bhairava eventually gets an opportunity to fulfill his dream when Manas (Saswata), the ruthless antagonist, asks him to track down a pregnant woman (Deepika Padukone). Storylines in commercial cinema often tend to be a tad too one dimensional. The “hero” is usually projected as a virtuous individual with no flaws while the “villain” comes across as a ruthless individual with no redeeming qualities. ‘Baahubali’, ‘Legend’, and ‘Veera Simha Reddy’ are just a few films that illustrate this aspect.

‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is an exception on this front as it features layered characters. Bhairava is a selfish daydreamer with no loyalty towards anyone. Similarly ,Ashwathama too carries a curse because of a sin he committed in the past. This complex characterisation alone makes ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ a step in the right direction.

The promising storyline reaches its potential because of the stellar screenplay. Nag Ashwin relies on the tried and tested ‘show don’t tell’ technique of storytelling to build the film’s world. This results in a slow yet compelling first half. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ begins with a gripping sequence featuring Ashwathama, which sets the stage for what is to follow. The action then shifts to 2898 AD where people long for a saviour and find themselves at the mercy of the Supreme Yaskin and his men. In a moving sequence, Manas kills a character and her unborn child. These scenes establish the kind of suppression faced by the people of Kashi.

The focus eventually shifts to Prabhas, who gets an unusual yet amusing entry sequence. ‘Darling’ impresses with his comic timing. His witty exchanges with Bujji, his robot companion, are a treat to watch and cater to those fond of Marvel movies.They also showcase a side of Prabhas that fans have hardly seen before. Nag Ashwin then proceeds to humanise yet elevate the character beautifully through his fight scene with Ashwathama . These intense sequences are a treat to watch on the big screen and establish Bhairava as a braveheart while setting the stage for the second half.

The post-interval portions prove to be a feast for the eyes courtesy the stellar visual effects. The last 40 minutes, however, prove to be the film’s biggest strength. The sequence in which Prabhas undergoes a transformation is an example of cinema at its finest. Everything about it, right from the background score to its impact on the narrative, is perfect.

‘Kalki 2898 AD’ exceeds even ‘Baahubali’ and ‘RRR’ when it comes to hero elevation in this scene.The climax also sets the stage for the sequel.

Coming to the performances, Big B is the scene-stealer in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’.The ‘Shahenshah’ adds depth to one of the finest characters of his stellar career. He is equally good in the action scenes with Prabhas. His rich and powerful voice adds new life to powerful dialogues such as “bhagwan mein srishti…” and “”Main bacha loonga..”.

Prabhas shines bright in the action sequences and springs a surprise with his comic timing. His striking screen presence elevates the impact of the twist towards the end. Deepika Padukone delivers a watchable performance but ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ does not do justice to her abilities the way ‘Padmaavat’ had. Disha Patani fails to impress in an inconsequential role. The subplot with her and Prabhas also feels out of place. Saswata makes an impact every time he appears on the screen,. This is a much better outing for him than ‘Crew’.

Kamal Haasan looks menacing in the two scenes he appears in but doesn’t get enough scope to showcase his brilliance. The rest of the cast serves its purpose.

The editing is decent but the Disha Patani track could have been shortened. The background music does justice to the film’s larger-than-life scale.

To conclude, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is a stellar example of meticulous storytelling and proves to be a huge leap forward for Indian cinema.

Salaar box office collection day 5; approaches Rs 500 crore

Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire, a pure Prabhas movie, has been a huge success at the box office since its December 22 premiere. But the action-thriller’s earnings has also been steadily declining. The movie’s box office haul on Saturday decreased to Rs 56.35 crore from its opening weekend gross of an astounding Rs 90.7 crore in India. On Sunday, it increased marginally to Rs 62.05 crore. However, the movie made Rs 46.3 crore on Monday, the Christmas holiday, despite a 25.38% decline in box office receipts.

Prashanth Neel’s movie has already earned Rs 23.50 crore on its fifth day, which is also its first working weekday. Although this is fewer than the Tuesday box office receipts for Jawan, the biggest film of the year, which grossed Rs 39.1 crore on its fifth day of release. Even on its sixth day, Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, earned Rs 37.47 crore, more than Salaar. On the other hand, Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol, earned Rs 55.4 crore on the fifth day.

At present, Salaar has collected a total of Rs 278.90 crore through net sales. The movie is very close to earning Rs 500 crore worldwide. Salaar is on track to become the sixth Indian film of the year, following Pathaan, Jawan, Jailer, Animal, and Leo, to cross the Rs 500 crore global milestone.

Salaar box office collection day 2: Prabhas’ film records massive drop, but will surpass Rs 250 crore globally today

Part 1 of The Prabhas starrer Salaar With a box office debut that broke records, Ceasefire created history. Director Prashanth Neel’s film saw a decline of more than 60% on the second day of its release, despite earning Rs 90 crore on the first day of its release. Industry tracker Sacnilk reports that Salaar made an estimated Rs 55 crore in revenue on Saturday. At present, the movie has earned a total of Rs 145.70 crores in India.

The action-thriller outperformed Jawan and Pathan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Leo, starring Vijay, and Jailer, starring Rajinikanth, to earn the largest opening for an Indian movie this year. Salaar’s opening day worldwide gross of Rs 179 crore was also substantially more than the global total of Rs 140 crore earned by Prabhas’s notorious flop, Adipurush, on its first day. Jawan and Animal reported openings of Rs 75 crore and Rs 63 crore, respectively, while Pathaan earned Rs 57 crore on its first day of release in India.

Dunki advance box office collection: Prabhas’ Salaar and Shah Rukh Khan’s movie compete for viewers’ attention

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for the release of his third movie this year, following the success of Jawan and Pathaan. The film, titled Dunki, will be released in theaters on December 21. It is the first joint venture between actor and director Rajkumar Hirani. The SRK movie’s advance ticket sales started on Saturday, and in just one day, they brought in Rs 1.36 crore. Nearly 38,000 tickets for 2836 shows in Hindi were sold on the first day of advance booking, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

Sumit Kadel, a film trade analyst, stated on X that a clear picture of Dunki’s box office performance will be revealed over the next three days. “Dunki Initial pre-sale starts on a remarkable note,” the author wrote. At national chain multiplexes, the film has sold over 10,000 tickets. Non-national chains are also moving well. Dunki could pose a threat to the best films of 2023 in terms of final advance booking if the current trend continues. The next three days will provide a clear image.

‘Dunki’ To Compete With Prabhas’ Salaar This Christmas

On Friday, the makers of the upcoming Pan-India action thriller film ‘Salaar’ starring Prabhas announced the new release date of their film.

‘Salaar’ will now be hitting the theatres on December 22, 2023, and will be facing a big box office clash with superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film ‘Dunki’.

Taking to Instagram, production house Hombale Films shared a new poster of ‘Salaar’ which they captioned, “Coming bloody soon! #SalaarCeaseFire Worldwide Release On Dec 22, 2023.”

In the intriguing poster, the ‘Baahubali’ actor can be seen with blood on his body.

Helmed by Prashant Neel, the film also stars Shruti Haasan and Prithviraj Sukumarn in the lead roles.

Earlier, the makers of ‘Salaar’ unveiled the teaser of their film which received massive responses from the fans.

Now the film will be facing a big clash with SRK’s ‘Dunki’.

SRK recently confirmed the release date of ‘Dunki’ at the success event of ‘Jawan’. He said, “We started on January 26, Republic Day (with Pathaan), then on Janmashtami we released ‘Jawan’, now New Year and Christmas are round the corner, we will release ‘Dunki’. I keep National integration. Anyway, when my film is released, it is Eid.”

Helmed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film also stars Taapsee Pannu in the lead role. ‘Dunki’ marks the first collaboration of the ‘Chak De India’ actor with ‘3 Idiots’ fame director Hirani and ‘Pink’ actor Taapsee.

Prabhas-Prashanth Neel’s Film Salaar Part 1 Ceasefire will not be releasing on September 28. The makers apologised for the dealy of release and said that the new release date will be announced soon. The makers took to Twitter and shared an official statement. The note reads: “We deeply appreciate your unwavering support for #Salaar. With consideration, we must delay the original September 28 release due to unforeseen circumstances. Please understand this decision is made with care, as we’re committed to delivering an exceptional cinematic experience. Our team is working tirelessly to meet the highest standards. The new release date will be revealed in due course. Stay with us as we make the final touches on #SalaarCeaseFire and thank you for being a part of this incredible journey.”

While the makers have not yet announced a new release date, Salaar is eyeing a release coinciding with the biggest festivals like Diwali or Sankranti. If reports are to be believed, the makers decided to push the release date because of impending post-production work.

The film also features Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, and Jagapathi Babu. The music score is given by Ravi Basrur, whereas the cinematography is done by Bhuvan Gowda. The film is produced by Vijay Kiragandur.
