</excerpt>

Deputy police commissioner Eliud Lagat in Kenya has recused himself until the investigations into the death of blogger Albert Ojwang while in custody are concluded.

Calls for Resignation After Blogger’s Death in Kenya

Mr Lagat was being pushed to resign by the opposition and human rights activists after Mr Ojwang was detained following a complaint, alleging defamation by the blogger on social media.

Police initially reported that Mr Ojwang had died of self-inflicted injuries, but were compelled to withdraw the assertion after an autopsy revealed that he was probably killed by assault wounds.

Lagat Denies Wrongdoing, Offers Cooperation

Mr Lagat refused all wrongdoing, but issued a statement that he was resigning in the “good and conscious thought” of his duties as deputy police chief.

“I undertake to provide any support that may be required of me during the investigations of the unfortunate incident,” Mr Lagat said.

“I offer immense condolences to the family of Mr Albert Ojwang for their great loss,” he added.

Suspension of Duties and Rising Public Pressure in Kenya

Until the probe is complete, Mr Lagat will not be allowed access to his office, and his responsibilities will be carried out by his deputy.

This follows with growing pressure, more protests are scheduled this week by activists calling for an open investigation into the death of the 31-year-old blogger.

Mr Ojwang was arrested in his village of Kakoth, close to the western town of Homa Bay, on 7 June. He was subsequently taken to the main police station in Nairobi, and was said to have died a few days later.

Conflicting Reports and Evidence Tampering Allegations

In an initial report, police indicated that Mr Ojwang was discovered unconscious in his cell and taken to a city hospital, where he died from head injuries which were allegedly suffered when he struck his head against the wall.

However, an autopsy report and a probe by the police watchdog, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), eliminated the chance that Mr Ojwang may have taken his own life.

As investigations go on, the station head has been arrested, as well as another police officer and a technician said to have switched off the CCTV at the station.

Police boss Douglas Kanja has apologized for the earlier police assertion that the blogger succumbed to self-inflicted injuries, attributing it to “misinformation” from his subordinates.

</excerpt>

A major corruption scandal has surfaced during an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation, revealing entrenched bribery within the system. The probe found that ASP Surendra Sharma of the ACB allegedly collected a hefty monthly bribe of Rs 6 to Rs 8 lakh from various police stations across the district, along with a similar amount from the district’s transport department. Further inquiries revealed that Sharma was also regularly receiving kickbacks from officials allegedly supporting the illegal gravel mining mafia. Officials from the Forest and Mining Departments have been implicated, and the ACB plans to summon them for questioning. Earlier, the ACB issued notices to 12 police station officers and transport officials in Sawai Madhopur. Arrest preparations are underway, marking a significant crackdown on institutional corruption.

Preparations are underway to arrest the SHOs of eight police stations in Sawai Madhopur, along with four officers from the Transport Department, in the ongoing bribery case. The ACB headquarters has submitted a preliminary report to the Police Headquarters, based on information obtained during the interrogation of the arrested ASP, an inspector, and their two brokers. Acting on this report, the Police Headquarters has initiated strict action against the accused SHOs involved in the monthly bribery racket. This marks a significant step in the crackdown on corruption within the police and transport departments.

Police Stations Under Investigation

In the ongoing monthly bond case, the ACB is investigating police stations including Chauth ka Barwara, Barwara Kalan, Khandar, Rawanjna Dungar, Soorwal, Kotwali, Marlan Dungar, Mantown, and Kandara in Sawai Madhopur. The probe revealed that the arrested ASP Surendra Sharma and ACB inspector Soni were extorting a monthly bond of Rs 2 lakh from each police station officer in collusion with the gravel mafia. Sharma allegedly threatened officers who refused to pay, warning them of being caught red-handed taking bribes from the mafia. Using this fear of entrapment, the accused officers collected between Rs 6 to 8 lakh every month through this illegal racket.

Bribe Collection Network Spanned Multiple Departments

The ACB investigation also revealed that the arrested ASP and Inspector had activated agents to collect monthly bribes from the District Transport Department, Forest Department, and Mining Department offices in Sawai Madhopur. Besides private agents, the accused officers involved employees and officials from these departments in the bribery network. As part of the probe, the ACB arrested two private agents, Pradeep and Ramraj, along with District Transport Officer Punyaram Meena. Meena was responsible for delivering the monthly bribes from the Transport Department to the two ACB officers. Following his arrest, the ACB is now preparing to apprehend officials from the Forest and Mining Departments implicated in the bribery racket.

Ongoing Probe And Call Record Analysis

ACB Director General Dr Ravi Prakash Meharda stated that the information obtained from the interrogation of the five accused arrested in the Monthly Bond case is currently being verified. Additionally, the investigation is ongoing to gather evidence against other suspects based on call records from the arrested individuals’ mobile phones. As part of this process, notices have been issued summoning 12 other accused to the ACB headquarters for questioning.

The Moore Police Department later surprised him with a box of doughnuts, making the adorable moment go viral.
</excerpt>

A toddler from Oklahoma, USA, has won hearts online after dialing 911 to report an “emergency need for doughnuts.” The Moore Police Department shared the adorable exchange between the child, Bennett, and the dispatcher, which quickly went viral.

Toddler’s Unexpected 911 Call

Bennett first dialed 911 and spoke gibberish before hanging up. However, he soon called back and made a very specific request:

? “911, it is an emergency,” Bennett said.

? “An emergency?” the dispatcher asked.

? “Emergency doughnuts,” the child responded.

The lighthearted conversation continued, with the dispatcher jokingly asking if Bennett would share his doughnuts. The toddler then cheerfully ended the call, saying, “Bye! Have a good day. Boop!”

Police Surprise the Toddler

Instead of dismissing the call, the Moore Police Department decided to make Bennett’s wish come true. The next day, officers visited his home and delivered a box of Dunkin’ doughnuts, bringing a huge smile to his face.

They shared the moment on social media, captioning it:

? “Emergency Donuts: The Sequel! Bennett requested a doughnut emergency, and #MPD delivered! His smile and laughter said it all!”

Social Media Reactions

The heartwarming incident drew positive reactions online, with users appreciating the officers’ kind gesture:

“I think we can all admit we’ve needed emergency doughnuts at some point!”

“As a former police call handler, this would have been our monthly morale boost.”

“This is adorable! A break from all the negative news.”

Parents and Police Respond

According to the Moore Police Department, Bennett used an old cellphone that still allows emergency calls but has no other functions. Officers reassured that while 911 should be used for real emergencies, they were happy to make an exception for this innocent and adorable request.

This story is a perfect reminder that sometimes, even in serious jobs, a little laughter and kindness can go a long way!

Despite arrest resistance, Vivek Bisht was detained. The incident’s video went viral, prompting social media reactions.
</excerpt>

New Year celebrations in Uttarakhand took a disturbing turn in Kotdwar when an inebriated biker went on a rampage, causing chaos on the streets. A viral video shared by the official X handle of the Uttarakhand Pauri Garhwal police captures the incident. The biker, later identified as Vivek Bisht from Gharat, was seen ramming his bike into several vehicles and injuring pedestrians along Patel Marg.

Local authorities received numerous complaints and soon reached the site. However, Bisht offered resistance to being taken into custody and hurled abuses at not only the crowd but also police personnel. Bisht broke the rear glass of a police van in a bid to challenge the arrests. Kotdwar Station Officer Ramesh Tanwar stated that Bisht was arrested, and a case was filed against him under different sections, including causing damage to public property.

The video of the incident has gone viral, and reactions on social media are very sharp. One of the users wrote, “The police should definitely give him the kind of ‘special treatment’ that ensures his next drink is a lifetime supply of regret.” Another comment was, “The cops must be thinking, Just get him to the Police station, that’s it!

Han Dong Hoon, the leader of South Korea’s People Power Party, resigned following the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol by the National Assembly. This occurred just a week after Yoon’s failed attempt to declare martial law, which led to his suspension.

Han Explains His Resignation

Han explained that his decision to support Yoon’s impeachment made his position untenable. During a press conference, he said, “Martial law in the advanced nation that is South Korea, in 2024. How angry and disappointed must you all have been?” His resignation came shortly after the Constitutional Court began reviewing Yoon’s impeachment.

Investigation and Impeachment Process

Additionally, investigators are preparing to question President Yoon this week. Han, once a close ally of Yoon, had previously served as the Justice Minister. Han further explained that he broke ties with Yoon because of the martial law issue. He stated, “Even though [the martial law] was done by a president our party produced, being misunderstood as defending illegal martial law that mobilised the military is a betrayal of this great country.” Han expressed his fear of potential violence between citizens and soldiers if the martial law had continued.

Han Apologizes for Political Crisis

Furthermore, Han apologized for the ongoing political turmoil. He admitted he tried every possible solution to avoid impeachment but was unable to find one. “I tried in every possible way to find a better path for this country other than impeachment, but in the end, I could not. It’s all because of my shortcomings. I’m sorry,” Han said.

End of Han and Yoon’s Alliance

The resignation marked the end of the alliance between Han and Yoon. Initially, they had worked together as prosecutors before Yoon entered politics. However, tensions arose when Han suggested that Yoon and his wife should apologize for a controversy involving a luxury Dior bag. This divide deepened when it was revealed that Yoon had ordered the arrest of Han and others during the brief martial law. As a result, Han called for Yoon’s impeachment, declaring him “a great danger to democracy.”

Constitutional Court Begins Hearing

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court began hearing Yoon’s impeachment case on Monday. All six current justices attended the first meeting. The court now has 180 days to decide whether Yoon should be removed from office. If Yoon is ousted, a national election will be held within 60 days to choose his successor. In the meantime, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will assume the role of acting president.

Possible Charges for Yoon and Officials

In addition, Yoon and several senior officials could face charges of insurrection, abuse of authority, and obstructing citizens’ rights due to the martial law incident. Investigators from various agencies, including the police, defense ministry, and anti-corruption agency, are planning to question Yoon on Wednesday. It’s worth noting that the martial law lasted only six hours, as the National Assembly overturned it despite opposition from the South Korean military.

A senior police official mentioned, “We have planned a significant deployment at the Singhu border on Delhi-Chandigarh highway ahead of farmers’ march towards the national capital. We are analysing the situation and if we get any intelligence input or information about the movement of farmers, the decision will be taken accordingly.”

They are also seeking “justice” for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence and compensation for families of those who died during the 2020-21 protests.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher revealed that a group of farmers had met with the Ambala superintendent of police to inform them about their march towards Delhi. He assured that traffic would not be obstructed and that the protest would remain peaceful.

</excerpt>

Brandon Durham, a 43-year-old Black man, tragically lost his life after calling 911 to report a break-in at his Las Vegas home. Durham, who was with his 15-year-old daughter, informed the operator that multiple individuals were shooting at their house and attempting to break in. He locked himself in the bathroom and waited for police to arrive.

Shocking bodycam footage from the scene shows a Las Vegas police officer firing at Durham. Officers, including Officer Bookman, arrived to find shattered cars and heard screaming from inside the house. They discovered Durham wrestling with 31-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux over a knife. Preliminary reports indicate that Officer Bookman fired a shot at Durham and then shot him five more times as he lay on the ground. Despite efforts to revive him, Durham was declared dead at the scene.

Durham’s daughter, Isabella Durham, expressed her outrage, stating, “I’m disgusted with the Metropolitan Police…the fact that they wrongfully shot my dad and then tried to spin the narrative to cover them, saying that there were gunshots there, that he had a knife, none of that is true.” She also criticized the police for treating her father like the criminal, saying, “They told him to ‘stay down’ as if he were the criminal, not the victim.”

Rachael Gore, Durham’s domestic partner, remarked, “What are you looking at? Not the colours of the clothes, you’re looking at the colour of the skin and that’s why he’s dead.”

Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren confirmed that Durham had instructed his daughter to go to her room and lock the door while he awaited help. Officer Bookman was the first to enter the house, kicking in the door.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the operation on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the state’s “zero-tolerance policy toward illegal infiltration.”

On September 19, Assam Police also identified and sent back four more Bangladeshi nationals—Romida Begum, Abdul Elahi, Marijna Begum, and Abdul Sukkur—near the Karimganj border as part of ongoing efforts to maintain a strict vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Earlier, on September 17, a joint operation by Assam Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) led to the apprehension of five Bangladeshi nationals in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district. According to the Assam Chief Minister, the group, along with an auto driver, was intercepted in Mankachar. The arrested individuals—Akash Ali, Safikul Mandal, Sabina Akter, Pinki Akter, Santa, and the driver, Akhirul Islam—revealed that they had crossed the border from Sherpur with the help of an Indian national named Pappan. Investigations are underway to dismantle the infiltration network.

In previous incidents, Assam Police successfully pushed back three Bangladeshi nationals on September 12 and another, Toyu Shaikh, on September 11 during nighttime border patrols. These efforts are part of a larger strategy to prevent illegal border crossings and infiltration from Bangladesh.

Inspector General Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, directed Additional Inspector General Karachi, Zonal Deputy Inspector Generals, and Senior Superintendents of Police to take immediate action against officers who record and post videos on TikTok while on duty.
Earlier, Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho had already suspended six officers, including two women, for posting TikTok videos while in uniform. These suspensions were a result of officers being caught recording and uploading videos during their shifts.

The incident occurred on May 19, when a 17-year-old driving a luxury Porsche crashed into a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two young riders in Kalyaninagar.
MLA Tingre has denied these allegations.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently mentioned in a public speech that Tingre was questioned by the police for three to four hours. Pawar asserted that Tingre had clarified his lack of involvement in the case and criticized those attempting to implicate him unfairly.

Following the attack on Monday, senior police officials, including the District Police Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police, quickly arrived with additional forces to secure the area, as reported by Geo News.

This incident comes on the heels of another severe attack last month in Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan district, where bandits targeted police vans with rockets, killing 12 policemen and injuring six. The attack occurred in the Machka area, a riverine region of Rahim Yar Khan. At the time, two police vans with over 20 officers were trapped in rainwater when bandits launched the rockets. The assault led to the death of a dozen officers, with seven others injured, and five reported missing.

</excerpt>

A daring robbery in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, led to the theft of approximately 1,500 iPhones valued at ₹11 crore from a container truck. The incident occurred on August 15 when the truck was transporting the phones from Gurugram, Haryana, to Chennai. The truck was reportedly targeted in Narsinghpur district, where the driver was allegedly drugged and gagged by the robbers.

Police Investigation Underway

Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Uikey confirmed the incident and stated that the claims made by the transporters are currently under verification. “Apple, which manufactures these phones, has not yet contacted the police. I am at the scene, approximately 35 kilometers from the district headquarters, and the videography of the truck is ongoing,” Uikey said.

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the robbery, with a case expected to be registered once the initial probe is completed. The looting of such a large consignment has raised concerns, especially considering the scale of the operation and the possible involvement of multiple individuals.

Action Taken Against Police Personnel

In response to the incident, the Sagar zone’s Inspector General of Police, Pramod Verma, took disciplinary action against three police officers for negligence. The officers were accused of failing to register a complaint when the truck driver approached them after the robbery.

The Bandari police station-in-charge, Inspector Bhagchand Uikey, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajendra Pandey were “line attached,” a term used to describe being removed from field duties. Additionally, Head Constable Rajesh Pandey was suspended for his role in the negligence. These actions were taken after it was revealed that the officers did not act promptly when the truck driver sought their help.

Ongoing Concerns and Investigation

The robbery has sparked concerns over the safety and security of high-value goods being transported across the state. The police are now under pressure to recover the stolen iPhones and apprehend those responsible for the heist. Meanwhile, the actions taken against the negligent officers highlight the accountability measures being enforced within the police force.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to gather more information about the robbery and the individuals involved. The theft of such a significant number of iPhones is expected to have far-reaching implications, and the police are treating the case with the utmost seriousness.

The local police suspect suicide, but investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding their deaths.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Alok Priyadarshi, the girls were reportedly close friends and used a single dupatta to hang themselves. “Upon receiving information, we immediately reached the site to investigate. The girls appeared to have climbed the tree together and tied the dupatta to a branch,” SP Priyadarshi said. He added that the initial findings suggest suicide, but the postmortem report will provide more clarity.

Pappu, the father of one of the deceased girls, shared his account of the incident. He mentioned that after returning from a temple visit, the girls had told him they were going back for a late-night program. “I was tired from working on the farm and went to sleep. When the program ended around midnight, I couldn’t find them. I searched everywhere but found no trace of them,” he said.

It was only the next morning that a villager discovered the bodies hanging from a tree in a nearby field. Pappu suspects foul play, claiming that someone may have murdered the girls before staging the scene. “I believe someone killed them and then hanged them. However, I don’t have enmity with anyone,” he added.

The police recovered a mobile phone and SIM card at the scene, which are currently under investigation. The family has filed a case, seeking to uncover the truth behind the incident.

Further investigations are ongoing, with the police looking into all possible angles, including the possibility of foul play or coercion. The postmortem results are awaited for a more definitive conclusion.

According to local media reports, the woman alleged that she had been raped over a period of five days, leading to the arrest of a suspect.

Samaa TV reported that the Belgian Woman was found abandoned by nearby residents who alerted the police. Authorities quickly responded, rescuing her and taking her to a hospital for a medical examination to assess her injuries.

The woman told the police that she had been assaulted by multiple men. Preliminary investigations appear to support her claims. A suspect named Tameezuddin has been arrested based on her statement. Pakistan Today revealed that Tameezuddin was taken into custody at his residence by Aabpara police officers. During questioning, Tameezuddin claimed that the woman was mentally unstable and lacked personal identification and travel documents.

Authorities are conducting further searches at Tameezuddin’s home to recover any items belonging to the Belgian Woman. Additionally, Tameezuddin is undergoing a medical examination at the same hospital where the victim is being treated.

Dawn reported that police were alerted to a woman abandoned on the roadside in Sector G-6/1-3. When they arrived, they found a young woman in her mid-20s who identified herself as a Belgian citizen. She stated that she had been living in Islamabad for about six months and accused a man she had been living with of repeatedly raping her.

The Belgian embassy in Islamabad had no record of the woman traveling to Pakistan. The case has been referred to the Netherlands mission due to her indicated residence near the border between the two countries. Assistance has also been sought from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), but they also lack records of the woman’s travel.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to verify the details of this Rape case and piece together the events leading up to the woman’s discovery.

Upon launching Google Maps, it not only provided him with directions but also reminded him to wear a helmet due to upcoming police checkpoints. Sharing this quirky alert on X, his post quickly went viral, amusing many netizens.

Google Maps identified a police checkpoint near Phoenix Mall, alerting motorists about the law enforcement presence in the area. The location tag, written in Tamil, translates to “Police are there, wear a helmet.”

One user commented, “Good initiative.” Another X user remarked, “In the US, FM radio stations actually announce the locations of highway patrol officers. This practice isn’t seen as problematic because officers are typically stationed in accident-prone areas. By alerting drivers, it helps to reduce accidents and keep roads safer.”

Another user responded, “Someone making the right use of technology.” Additionally, one more user shared, “A true social service.”

</excerpt>

Police in Bangladesh have been granted “shoot-on-sight” orders and a nationwide curfew has been imposed as student-led protests continue to escalate, resulting in over 100 fatalities. The curfew, which began at midnight on Friday, aims to control the deteriorating security situation, with military personnel patrolling the streets of Dhaka. This curfew was briefly lifted on Saturday afternoon for essential errands, but otherwise, residents have been ordered to stay indoors, and all gatherings and demonstrations are banned. A communications blackout, blocking all internet and social media access, has been in place since Thursday night.

Local media reports indicate that thousands have been injured and that the death toll has reached 115, though the government has not released official figures. Police officers have been given the authority to open fire on those violating the curfew, as confirmed by Obaidul Quader, the general secretary of the ruling Awami League party.

The protests, among the most severe in Bangladesh in over a decade, began on university campuses earlier this month. Students were protesting against the reintroduction of civil service job quotas, which they argue are discriminatory and favor the Awami League, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The protests have since expanded beyond campuses, evolving into a broader movement against Hasina’s government, which has been in power since 2009 and is accused of authoritarianism, police brutality, and corruption. The economic downturn since the Covid-19 outbreak has exacerbated the situation, with millions facing unemployment and record inflation.

Shafkat Mahmud, a 28-year-old student protester from Uttara, Dhaka, described the unrest as akin to a “civil war,” highlighting the shift from rubber bullets to live ammunition by police after the internet shutdown. Mahmud also reported attacks by pro-government supporters armed with machetes and guns, and buses transporting the deceased. He emphasized that the movement has grown beyond the initial quota issue to a demand for governmental change.

Earlier this week, pro-government student groups attacked protesters, and police have been accused of inciting violence with teargas, rubber bullets, and stun grenades. Demonstrators retaliated by setting the state-run broadcaster ablaze and breaking into a central Bangladesh prison on Friday, freeing hundreds of prisoners. Friday was marked as the deadliest day of the protests, with reports of police using live ammunition resulting in at least 40 deaths.

Representatives from both sides met late on Friday to negotiate, with student leaders demanding a complete reform of the quota system and the reopening of universities. Law and justice minister Anisul Huq indicated that the government was open to discussing their demands.

The incident, which took place on Saturday at a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM in Beed’s Dharur, was captured on CCTV footage that has since gone viral. The footage shows two men wearing raincoats and covering their faces as they tie a thick rope around the cash machine. </excerpt>

Two Pune Police officers were suspended on Friday for neglecting to report the Porsche accident involving a teenager to the wireless control room, resulting in the deaths of two software engineers.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that Police Inspector Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Police Inspector Vishwanath Todkari, stationed at Yerwada police station, were suspended.

Earlier, the police commissioner raised concerns about potential evidence tampering to suggest that the Porsche involved in the accident was driven by the family driver, not the 17-year-old son of realtor Vishal Agarwal, who was allegedly behind the wheel.

“We have CCTV footage of him (the juvenile) drinking liquor in the pub. Our case doesn’t solely rely on the blood report; we have other evidence too. He was fully aware that his actions could lead to such an accident,” Kumar emphasized.

Addressing allegations of preferential treatment towards the juvenile, the Pune Police commissioner clarified, “We’ve stated that there wasn’t a pizza party at the police station. However, there was an incident that prompted an internal investigation. We aim to build a solid case.”

Vishal Agarwal, the accused’s father, and five others have been remanded to judicial custody until June 7 by a local court. Despite the prosecution’s request for further police custody to continue the investigation, the court opted for judicial custody. This includes Agarwal and individuals associated with two liquor-serving establishments where the teenager purportedly consumed alcohol before the fatal accident.
