</excerpt>

A recent video showcasing Gurgaon police officers, including senior officials, engaging in a ‘Harinam Kirtan’ session has gone viral, eliciting a range of reactions from the online community. The footage captures police personnel clapping and chanting along with members of ISKCON Gurugram inside the office of the Gurgaon Commissioner. This event was part of a stress management program organized by ISKCON Gurugram on Police Day, aimed at equipping officers with effective coping mechanisms for their demanding roles.

Led by Aradhya Gaura Prabhu, the kirtan session was designed to provide a calming and spiritually enriching experience for the officers. According to an ISKCON statement, the initiative received positive feedback from senior officials, including the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police, both of whom expressed appreciation for the program’s goals.

Mixed Reactions from Social Media

The video has ignited a lively discussion online, with some users praising the initiative for its innovative approach to addressing police stress. One supporter commented, “I see nothing wrong with this; they’re performing Harinam Kirtan, which is truly soothing to hear. ISKCON contributes immensely to society by spreading the wisdom of ancient scriptures and uplifting us through Harinam.”

However, not everyone shared this enthusiasm. Critics expressed concerns over the practicality of such activities in a law enforcement context. One user questioned, “What if you dial 100 for an emergency and the police are busy with Harinam Kirtan? Will it be soothing to hear?” This sentiment was echoed by others who sarcastically remarked, “Way to go,” and “What a fall,” indicating skepticism about the appropriateness of kirtan in a police environment.

A Call for Balance

While the initiative aims to foster inner peace among officers amid the pressures of their work, the responses highlight a crucial conversation about balancing spiritual practices with the immediate responsibilities of law enforcement.
Mob Storms Police Station

According to the Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM), Utsav was taken into custody by police after allegations of blasphemy surfaced. Despite no forensic evidence supporting the claim, he was detained under police and military watch. A mob later stormed the station, violently attacking and killing the boy in a shocking display of public violence.

The HRCBM condemned the police and military for failing to prevent the attack, stating that their negligence made them complicit in the crime. “This act of mob lynching violates basic human rights,” the organization said in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).

Lack of Accountability

The HRCBM expressed outrage over the absence of justice, as the perpetrators of the crime remain unpunished. They also criticized segments of the Bangladeshi media for downplaying the incident, with some claiming the lynching never happened. The organization voiced concern for the safety of Utsav’s family, fearing they could face intimidation or forced disappearance.

Human Rights Concerns in Bangladesh

The incident has raised serious questions about justice and human rights in Bangladesh. The HRCBM asked, “Will there be justice in Bangladesh? Will people stand up against such dark forces? Will the international community continue to be silent?”

The organization also highlighted the ongoing violence against minority communities in Bangladesh, calling for global attention and action to address these human rights violations.

Political vs. Communal Violence

Muhammad Yunus, the interim government’s chief adviser, downplayed concerns of communal violence, arguing that the attacks on Hindus are exaggerated and more political than religious. He suggested that many Hindus were perceived as supporters of the recently ousted Awami League government, led by Sheikh Hasina, and that the violence was a political fallout rather than religious persecution. This stance has sparked debate over the true nature of the attacks.

India’s Concern for Minority Safety

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern about the safety of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. In his Independence Day speech, Modi acknowledged the troubling situation and called for improvements. This was the second time in a week that Modi addressed the issue, as tensions rise following the establishment of the interim government in Bangladesh.

“As a neighboring country, we share the concerns over what is happening in Bangladesh. I hope the situation improves soon,” Modi stated.

Advocacy groups like the HRCBM are urging the global community to intervene as violence against minorities in Bangladesh continues. The future remains uncertain, but the demand for justice and protection of vulnerable communities is growing stronger.

Delhi Police have launched extensive awareness sessions across more than 100 police stations in the national capital to educate the public about three new criminal laws that came into effect recently. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) have replaced the colonial-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act, respectively.

Residents like Kamlesh Kumar from Nangloi in the Outer district expressed appreciation for the initiative, stating that he attended an awareness session at Mundka police station to understand the new laws.

Similar sessions were held at various other stations including Nangloi, Ranhola, Nihal Vihar, Paschim Vihar East, Paschim Vihar West, Sultan Puri, Raj Park, Mangol Puri, and Rani Bagh. Senior police officials confirmed the organization of these sessions aimed at informing citizens about the changes.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Jimmy Chiram emphasized the importance of public awareness, highlighting that understanding rights and procedures under the new laws will enhance people’s ability to navigate the justice system effectively.

Delhi Police, well-prepared with a mobile app and comprehensive training, reported smooth operations on the first day of implementing the new laws. Senior officers confirmed that no challenges were faced in registering FIRs under the provisions of the BNS across North district.

Officers from various districts attested to the readiness of their personnel, noting that extensive training had been provided to handle the new laws seamlessly. They also mentioned the proactive role of police officials in guiding citizens visiting stations to file complaints, ensuring clarity on the new legal framework.

In preparation for the transition, a committee led by Special Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma and including DCP Joy Tirkey and Additional DCP Uma Shankar was formed earlier this year. This committee focused on studying the new laws and preparing educational materials for police personnel.

Moving forward, investigative officers will utilize mobile phone cameras to capture crime scenes and upload them via the e-Praman application, streamlining the evidence collection process under the new legislative framework.

She used to work as an event planner for weddings. In the morning, I got a call from the police and was informed about the accident. I was taken to the police station and was made to wait.”

“When my brother arrived at Police Station, he was told about the death of my daughter. My brother told me about it,” said the mother of the deceased.

“My daughter was the only earning member in our family. She was wearing so many clothes but not a single piece of cloth was there on her dead body, what kind of accident was it,” the deceased mother stated.

Moreover, Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal also took cognizance of the incident and a notice has been issued to the Delhi police.

This matter is very dangerous, I am issuing an appearance summons to Delhi Police. The whole truth should come out,” Maliwal said.

Swati Maliwal further stated that all the five men in the car were drunk and said, “A very disturbing incident has come out. A girl was hit by a car and then dragged on the road. The car was driven by five badly drunk people. I have summoned Delhi Police to ask how will justice be provided to the girl. Secondly, I want to ask, despite the girl being dragged for kilometers, no check post was able to catch anything. No one stopped those drunk people. This is a very scary and shocking incident.”

However, at the SGM hospital, Mangolpuri the girl’s body was sent and at the mortuary of the hospital, the body has been kept.

During the intervening overnight of Friday and Saturday, some unidentified miscreants used a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) to attack the Sarhali police station in Punjab’s Tarn Taran.

The police station situated on the Amritsar-Bathinda national highway came under attack at around 1am on Saturday, said police.

According to the sources, a rocket struck the police station’s iron gate and struck a wall inside, lightly damaging it. Fortunately, no one was harmed. A few police officers were on duty at the time.

Top Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh Chauhan and other senior police officers arrived at the scene after the occurrence, along with a forensic squad, and an investigation into the matter has been started. From the police station, the rocket was found.

This is the second time in the past seven months that a rocket attack on a police station has occurred in Punjab. On May 9, an RPG was fired at the intelligence centre of the Punjab police in Mohali.

An infamous Canadian thug named Lakhbir Singh alias Landa, who is still absconding, was allegedly the mastermind of the Mohali RPG attack. Landa comes from the village of Harike in Tarn Taran, 12 kilometres away from Sarhali, and she is currently involved in more than 30 criminal cases.

Harwinder Singh Rinda, a notable mobster and terrorist affiliated with the Khalistani movement, is also a native of Sarhali.

A mob of about 200 people stormed a police station in the tribally predominate Gajapati region of Odisha on Tuesday morning and beat five police officers in protest at a man’s detention in a cannabis smuggling case, according to police.

According to district officials in Gajapati, protesters from 6 grampanchayats assembled outside Adava police station in Mohana block to voice their opposition to the arrest of Biswanath Bhuyan, who was taken into custody by authorities from Jharanpur village on Monday night.

Police frequently arrest people on cannabis cultivation-related crimes in Gajapati district, which is known as a hub for the activity.

Locals were outraged by the police action and first gathered outside the police station before breaking in and attacking the officers, claiming it was a fake case.

“They were unrelenting and went after us. They tore up case records, smashed laptop, desktop computer and furniture. We had to run for our lives,” said a police official, requesting anonymity.

The mob then moved onto the police station staff’s apartments inside the building with the intention of attacking the officers’ families. However, others convinced them to change their minds.

Later, officers from the neighbouring R Udaygiri and Mohana police stations showed up as reinforcement. The locals persisted in holding a dharna in front of the police station though to make their concerns heard.

In Malkangiri district, another hub of cannabis cultivation, an armed mob with connections to cannabis traffickers vandalised the Chitrakonda police station in June.
