World’s Heaviest Cat, Crumbs, Passes Away Just Weeks After Starting Weight-Loss Journey

October 29, 2024, 6:30 pm

Sadly, the world’s fattest cat, Crumbs, died just a week after starting her weight loss program. The Russian feline went viral online when she was put on a diet after being rescued from a basement of a hospital in Russia.

At just four years of age, Crumbs, alias his Russian Kroshik, accumulated a staggering weight of 17 kilograms through leftovers, soup, whiskey, and biscuits alone. After starting the diet program, Crumb began seriously losing weight, shedding 7 pounds.

He became very ill in a matter of days and died last Saturday. His veterinarians find the tumors on some of his inner organs to be cancerous, unknown to everybody since the large layers of fats that hid them.

She believed the tumors likely led to organ failure. “Cats always hold on to the last; they do not show this disease. Kroshik had no shortness of breath, no digestive problems,” she said speaking with NewsX.

Appeared healthy

“We could not do the ultrasound, but we would monitor his health day to day because we know the excess weight does not appear overnight,” she said during an interview, emphasizing how in the weeks before its death, the cat has shown no signs of any illness.

“It hurts that we did not know earlier and could not help. This is great loss for us since Kroshik was a hope for all, and it was only that we needed to have good news, and this is very hard to speak about it.”.

He became an internet celebrity because of pictures of his massive body that shocked the pet owners around the globe. His weight was extreme, making walking a challenge.

Weight loss for Crumbs

Crumbs was put on an intensive diet and exercise program, including walking on an underwater treadmill, to help him lose weight. However, according to his caretakers, “sometimes miracles do not happen.”

“Sometimes even the most powerful cats cannot bear to. Sometimes even the brightest doctors, rehabilitation centers, and support from people all over the world is insufficient. Thanks to every single one of you who had stayed by Kroshik’s side till the end. For being the cause by which Kroshik became a believer in good people,” is what they have written in that warm-hearted message.

The incident occurred during his match against Japan’s Kazuma Kawano on June 30, with the score tied at 11-11 in the opening game. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, Zhang was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Badminton Asia and the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) said in a joint statement on Monday, “China’s Zhang Zhijie, a singles player, collapsed on the court during a match in the evening. He was sent to the hospital where he passed away at 23:20 local time yesterday. He was attended to by the tournament doctor and medical team. Recently, videos of the incident have circulated widely on the internet, depicting a 40-second delay before emergency personnel attended to Zhang Zhijie. This has sparked strong criticism towards officials, with many questioning whether quicker medical intervention could have potentially saved his life. The footage shows a man initially rushing to aid the badminton player after his collapse, but he pauses midway, apparently awaiting further instructions.

The young player, originally from Jiaxing in China’s Zhejiang province, joined the national junior squad in 2023 and achieved success in various championships. He notably secured team and men’s titles in Group B of the China Badminton Junior Championships in both 2023 and 2024.

Roger Corman, the Oscar winning ‘King of the Bs’ and acclaimed for producing low-budget gems like ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and ‘Attack of the Crab Monsters’, has died at the age of 98. He passed away on May 9 at his residence in Santa Monica, California, surrounded by loved ones, according to reports from Variety.

In a statement, his family expressed grief saying, “His films were revolutionary and iconoclastic, and captured the spirit of an age. When asked how he would like to be remembered, he said, ‘I was a filmmaker, just that.'”

Corman’s entertainment empire, operating under various banners like New World Pictures and Concorde/New Horizons, rivaled major studios in activity and, as he proudly stated, consistently turned a profit. Focusing on rapid, low-budget genre films spanning horror, action, science fiction, and even family-oriented content, his company served as a fertile training ground for numerous major talents. In 2005, Concorde inked a 12-year agreement with Buena Vista Home Entertainment, granting the latter distribution rights to over 400 Corman-produced films. However, in 2010, Corman struck a deal with Shout Factory, providing the latter with exclusive North American home video rights to 50 of his produced films.

PCB released a statement to announce the demise of Shaharyar Khan which read, “The Pakistan Cricket Board, through its Chairman, the Board of Governors and employees, expresses deep sadness and sorrow over the passing away of former Chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan earlier this morning, in Lahore. He was 89.”

According to sources close to the family, Shaharyar Khan had been unwell for an extended period and will be laid to rest in Karachi, as reported by Geo News Urdu. Prominent journalist Nauman Niaz extended condolences on the passing of former PCB chairman.

Extremely literate, from Bhopal, affable,… pic.twitter.com/bEa3m8vMTp

— Dr. Nauman Niaz (@DrNaumanNiaz) March 23, 2024

In December 2003, Shaharyar succeeded Gen Tauqir Zia as PCB chairman during a period marked by the board’s tarnished reputation due to financial mismanagement and accusations of nepotism. Following his appointment, the board underwent a significant transformation, emerging as a more robustly managed entity. His leadership played a pivotal role in reshaping Pakistan’s cricket landscape.

In 2004, he named former English cricketer Bob Woolmer as the coach of the national team, a move that quickly yielded positive results as the team exhibited greater stability.

He encountered challenges on the international front amid the rapid rise of India’s influence in the cricketing world. In October 2006, his tenure concluded prematurely, two months before his contract was set to end. He faced accusations of inadequately managing players during the Darrell Hair-Oval crisis. In 2006, umpires Darrell Hair and Billy Doctrove alleged that the Pakistan team engaged in ball tampering during the fourth day of the fourth Test against England.

He assumed the role of PCB chairman after a distinguished political career. From 1957 to 1994, he held various positions including Pakistan’s foreign secretary, ambassador, and high commissioner. He served as a Third Secretary in London, Second Secretary in Tunis, and was appointed Pakistan’s Ambassador to Jordan in 1976, later posted to London in 1987. Additionally, Shaharyar served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to France from 1999 to 2001.

He also served as the team manager of the Pakistan national men’s team during the 1999 tour of India and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003.

His second term as the PCB chairman commenced in 2014 amidst a period of turmoil within Pakistan cricket. The chairman position witnessed several changes between Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf. Shaharyar was ultimately reinstated as the chairman after being unanimously voted in by the PCB’s board of governors.

The PCB extended condolences to the family of Shaharyar Khan.

“On behalf of the PCB, I express my deep condolences and grief over the passing of former Chairman Shaharyar Khan. He was a fine administrator and served Pakistan Cricket with utmost dedication,” said Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi as quoted from a statement by Pakistan Cricket.

“Pakistan Cricket will stay indebted to the late Shaharyar Khan for his commendable role as head of the board and for his services in the growth and development of the game in the country,” he added.
