</excerpt>

Police in Karachi found the decomposed body of Pakistani actor and reality show contestant Humaira Asghar Ali, 32, inside her rented apartment after breaking the lock on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities were acting on a court order to vacate the premises due to unpaid rent.

Decomposed Body Found in Locked Apartment

The incident took place in the Defence Housing Authority’s Ittehad Commercial area. Police arrived around 3:15 pm, and after repeated knocks went unanswered, they forced their way into the apartment. According to Dawn, they found Humaira’s body in an advanced stage of decomposition.

“It appeared that the body was several days old,” said area police chief Syed Asad Raza.

Police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed stated that the death likely occurred at least two weeks ago. The body has been sent to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem analysis to determine the cause of death.

No Signs of Foul Play, Say Police

Authorities said there were no visible signs of foul play. The apartment’s iron gate, wooden door, and balcony were locked from the inside, ruling out immediate suspicion of forced entry or assault.

Humaira lived alone in the apartment. Police are currently trying to reach out to her family.

Known for Reality Show Appearance and Film Role

Humaira Asghar had gained attention after appearing on ARY Digital’s reality show Tamasha Ghar. She also acted in the 2015 Pakistani film Jalaibee.

The court had earlier issued eviction orders after her landlord reported that she had not paid rent since 2024. Police were executing the court directive when they discovered her body.

</excerpt>

The unexpected closure of a well-known restaurant in Pakistan has left its employees devastated, with some collapsing and others tearing up after receiving termination letters from management.

Local reports indicate that on June 11, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered the shutdown of Monal, a popular restaurant located in Islamabad. This closure was part of a broader ruling that mandated the shutdown of all eateries within Islamabad’s Margalla Hills National Park.

Following the court’s decision, Monal announced it would cease operations by September 11, 2024. In a Facebook post, the restaurant expressed its gratitude for the years of service, stating, “Since 2006, it was an absolute pleasure for the Monal family to serve and showcase a positive image of Pakistan and its beautiful people. This journey was full of success stories and emotions for the team affiliated with us, but now it’s time to say goodbye.”

The closure is expected to leave over 700 employees without jobs. A viral video shows the emotional reaction of the staff, including one employee who fainted upon receiving the termination news, while others were seen wiping away tears as they held their dismissal letters.

He wrote, “I wish I could provide jobs for everyone overnight, but given the current financial crisis, the group can’t reassign you to other projects. Please accept this as a decision made by divine will and begin searching for alternative employment.”

The plight of the laid-off employees has resonated deeply with social media users. One commenter on the viral video noted, “He fainted because he is thinking about his responsibilities towards his family.” Another user expressed sympathy, saying, “I pray they find better jobs to sustain themselves.”

Police identified the father as Tayyab, who confessed to the grievous crime. According to authorities, Tayyab admitted he could not afford medical treatment for his newborn daughter and thus decided to bury her alive. He reportedly placed the infant in a sack before carrying out the tragic act.

A formal case has been lodged against Tayyab, who has admitted his guilt. Authorities have indicated that the child’s grave will be opened for forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation, following a court directive.

Incident in Lahore: Domestic Worker Abused

In a separate incident in Lahore’s Defence B area, a husband and wife are accused of severely abusing a 13-year-old domestic worker. The young girl, Tehreem, was reportedly subjected to physical torture and stripping over suspicions of theft.

The abuse came to light after Tehreem’s mother filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused, Hassam. While Hassam has been detained, efforts are ongoing to apprehend his wife. According to the FIR, Tehreem sustained fractures to her hand and nose during the ordeal.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) Cantt has assured that those responsible for the reprehensible acts against Tehreem will be brought to justice swiftly, as reported by ARY News.

These distressing incidents highlight the urgent need for stronger protections for vulnerable individuals in Pakistan. The cases of Tayyab and Tehreem have sparked widespread outrage and underscored the necessity of addressing the systemic issues contributing to such tragedies.

As investigations continue, authorities are under immense pressure to ensure justice for the victims and prevent such incidents from recurring. The Pakistani public and international observers will be closely watching how these cases unfold and the measures taken to safeguard vulnerable lives in the future.

</excerpt>

Scores of former government employees and pensioners in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir recently staged a sit-in protest, demanding an increase in their pensions from the Pakistan government. The demonstrators expressed that managing household expenses has become increasingly difficult due to soaring inflation, yet Islamabad has shown little concern for their struggles. Despite numerous protests over the past year, no official has addressed their grievances.

One protester, Raja Muhammad Mumtaz, stated, “It is a fact that the Prime Minister of PoJK cannot make any announcements on his own. This has to be done by the government of Pakistan and for this the budget is fixed. I would urge the pensioners’ association members to approach the ministers and demand the release of the pension funds.”

The protesters also called for the implementation of a law ensuring that in the event of a pensioner’s death, their pension should be transferred to their widow or daughter, if she is a widow. They criticized bureaucratic delays for hindering the resolution of their demands.

Another protester lamented, “When we ask the officials to address our concerns, they turn their faces away, that nobody should come to them and that they won’t say anything. This is our condition that we are forced to sit on roads. We are old. People passing by are watching us. But our rulers are not concerned to even hear us out. If our concerns are not fair, they should be resolved. If not, then we should be told what is fair.”

The protesters accused the government of using resources from the region under its control to compensate for Pakistan’s economic losses due to policy failures, instead of providing aid to the people in the backward region.

</excerpt>

Pakistan child rights body has urgently called for the repatriation of four children belonging to Seema Haider, who had travelled to India via Nepal with her children to marry her lover, ARY News reported.

In a letter addressed to the Foreign Office of Pakistan, the National Commission for Rights of Children (NCRC) in Pakistan appealed for the safe return of Haider’s children.
Haider’s husband Ghulam Haider is still in Pakistan, according to ARY News.

Seema, a Pakistani national, entered India with her four children to marry Indian national Sachin Meena, whom she had befriended through online gaming platform PUBG Mobile.
The 27-year-old woman crossed over into India illegally to move in together with Sachin Meena in May last year via Nepal.

The couple started living together in Greater Noida. Haider, however, got arrested on July 4, 2023 for entering India without a visa, while Sachin was put behind bars for sheltering the illegal immigrants, but released later.

Indian Ministry of External Affairs had earlier said the matter was ‘under investigation’, adding that Seema was presented before the court and was granted bail.

</excerpt>

Three men are said to have lured a college student to a riverbank in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area with the goal of sexually abusing him. Instead, as Dawn reported, they managed to film the child in his undies and used the clip as a kind of blackmail.

The Pakistan Penal Code’s sections 377 (unnatural offence), 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable by imprisonment), and 506/34 (criminal intimidation) were invoked in the initial complaint filed at the Dandai police station in Bisham Tehsil.

According to the FIR, the victim, who had just completed his intermediate examination, was approached by the suspects, whom he knew. They purportedly persuaded him to accompany them to a riverbank, where they made unwanted sexual advances. Despite the victim’s resistance, they recorded him unclothed and threatened to expose the footage and harm him if he reported the incident, as per Dawn.

Muhammad Arif Khan, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Dandai, revealed that the three suspects mentioned in the FIR were apprehended, with further interrogation underway.

The FIR also stated that the victim was referred to the tehsil headquarters hospital in Bisham for a medical examination on the day of the incident, Dawn reported.

Data compiled by Sahil, an NGO dedicated to addressing child sexual abuse, highlights a troubling pattern: the majority of perpetrators are individuals known to the victims, including acquaintances, neighbors, or even family members. Alarmingly, religious instructors and clerics are identified as the primary offenders within institutional settings, surpassing police officers, school teachers, or nuclear family members in the number of complaints lodged against them, according to Dawn.

While primary data is limited and organizations rely on media reports and police complaints, the trend over the past two decades indicates that the gender divide of abused girls in religious schools slightly exceeds that of boys (“Cruel Numbers”).

</excerpt>

The executive board of the International Monetary Fund approved $1.1 billion in cash for Pakistan, according to a press statement, but talks for a fresh loan are still ongoing.

A $3 billion standby agreement with the IMF was secured by Islamabad last summer in order to avert a sovereign default. This funding is the second and last part of that agreement.

After meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the fringes of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave his consent.

The existing standby deal between Pakistan and the IMF expires this month, thus Pakistan is pursuing a new, larger, longer-term accord known as the Extended Fund Facility (EFF). Islamabad might come to a staff-level consensus on the new program by the beginning of July, according to Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb’s comments.

The aim of Islamabad’s efforts is to secure a loan spanning at least three years to achieve macroeconomic stability and implement long-overdue and challenging structural reforms.

While Aurangzeb has refrained from disclosing the exact amount being sought, discussions between the Fund and the government are already underway, although a formal request from Islamabad is yet to be made.

If successful, this would mark Pakistan’s 24th IMF bailout.

The $350 billion economy is grappling with a persistent balance of payments crisis, facing nearly $24 billion in debt and interest repayments in the upcoming fiscal year—three times the amount of its central bank’s foreign currency reserves.

The rate of inflation in South Asia has reached its highest point in recent months, with a spike to 38 percent. In instance, the price of food has soared to 48%, the highest level since 2016. </excerpt>

Pakistan is dealing with its highest inflation rate in almost 50 years, according to Dawn. The rate of inflation in South Asia has reached its highest point in recent months, with a spike to 38 percent. In instance, the price of food has soared to 48%, the highest level since 2016.

The government’s decision to eliminate subsidies and weaken the currency by more than 50% in less than a year as part of the most recent installment of the International Monetary Fund bailout package has made the country’s cost of living situation worse.

In a nation where financial obstacles often cast a shadow over the lives of its people, the idea of fair salaries appears to be a ray of hope. Like many developing countries, Pakistan must overcome the difficult task of addressing the socioeconomic inequalities, poverty, and inequality brought on by the previously mentioned inflation.

The question of how much labourers are paid for it is at the heart of these difficulties. Discussions about the significance of living wages and fair wages, and the reasons Pakistan should give priority to this important aspect of economic justice, should be held by private sector organisations.

Beyond simply being a number on a cheque, a fair wage represents the worth and dignity of human labour. It guarantees that people have access to basic essentials for themselves and their family, including food, housing, healthcare, and education. In Pakistan, where a large segment of the population faces financial hardship, equitable pay can make a huge difference.

Giving fair salaries is required by law in addition to being morally right. The Pakistani Constitution protects the right to equitable compensation for equivalent effort. Many people still struggle to obtain this entitlement, nevertheless, particularly those who work in the unorganised sector or as daily wage workers. Ensuring the enforcement and preservation of this fundamental right in all economic sectors is a crucial responsibility for both the government and enterprises.

The CPPA recommends a levy of PKR 2,000 per kilowatt for residential and business customers installing 12 kW or more, according to sources.

Originally referred to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) for approval, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has finally received this proposal for final approval. Customers who want to purchase 12-kilowatt solar panels will be subject to a PKR 24,000 tax if the prime minister approves the proposal. Meanwhile, the federal government is looking into ways to bring down the cost of solar panels and is examining their existing pricing.

In a related development, Sindh Minister for Jails Ali Hasan Zardari announced plans to transition prisons across the province to solar energy. The initiative involves installing 200 to 600KV solar kits in jails to replace traditional fans with solar technology. Implementation has commenced in Karachi Central Jail, Women’s Jail, and Landhi Jail, with plans to extend the transition to other jails in the province subsequently.

However, on Friday, government employees from major institutions staged protests at Karachi Port, leading to a backlog in import and export traffic as containers remained uncleared. The strike, conducted by Pakistan Standard and Quality Control officers and employees, was triggered by the alleged withholding of bonuses and incentives. A former vice president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) highlighted the employees’ grievances regarding the delayed payouts.

</excerpt>

According to Geo News, a special court established under the Official Secrets Act on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and party vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cipher case until September 26.

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has been imprisoned after his conviction in the Toshakhana case on August 5. Despite the fact that the Islamabad High Court rejected the lower court’s decision to imprison him for three years and punish him 100,000 Pakistani rupees (PKR), according to a Geo News report. However, Imran Khan remains imprisoned as a result of his detention in the cipher case.

According to Geo News, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested Imran Khan in a cipher case in August after arresting him under the Official Secrets Act.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed disappointment last week over the tricks being used to delay the hearing of Imran Khan’s cipher case, alleging that it was an attempt to deprive him of the right to a fair trial and prolong his detention in Attock jail, according to Pakistan-based Dawn.

The PTI Committee stated at its meeting that the reluctance to hear the bail application of their party’s Chief is a source of considerable concern since the judge handling the cipher case went on a week-long leave.

“Imran Khan’s cases are the worst examples of discriminatory justice, as first he was awarded punishment in the false case of Toshakhana in an extraordinary haste by flouting the law and justice and now efforts are being made to deprive him of justice by making various tricks to delay the hearing of the cypher case,” it stated, according to Dawn.

According to Dawn, the core committee stated that the case of PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi was also put on hold due to the departure of the special judge. According to Dawn, the judge handling the case had gone on leave till the end of the week.

According to Pakistan-based Geo TV, over 45 women have been sexually abused by the principal, Irfan Ghafoor Memon, who utilized CCTV evidence to blackmail them.

In addition, the authorities found approximately 25 short video clips from Irfan’s phone. The authorities confiscated the CCTV cameras’ digital video recorder (DVR) as well as Memon’s cell phone for further investigation.

A video of Memon and a female teacher went viral, exposing the scandal. Soon after, the principal’s office was shut, and he was placed on physical remand for seven days. According to the authorities, Memon alleged that he rented the school for PKR 100,000 per month and that it had roughly 10 female teachers, five male teachers, and 250 students.

Memon has been charged with sexual harassment, threatening, and blackmailing, according to a first information report (FIR).

The investigating officer told Geo TV that Memon would sexually abuse female teachers on the pretext of providing a job. “The accused used to blackmail the women by filming videos,” the IO said.

According to the alert, the number of dengue virus cases skyrockets during the monsoon season, necessitating a strong attentive system to keep the numbers under control.

The authorities and the general public have been instructed to guarantee that mosquitos do not have access to egg-laying habitats through environmental management and modification. Domestic water storage containers should be covered and cleaned on a weekly basis to prevent the spread of dengue larva.
