‘I love to do challenging roles now’: Darsheel Safary on Gamerlog

Aamir Khan’s movie ‘Taare Zameen Par’ fame child actor Darsheel Safary, now 28, is all set to begin a new journey in the world of acting with more ‘challenging roles’ to shine not only at the silver screen but also on the OTT.

“I have been also into the theaters for around 8-9 years where I had learned all the nitty-gritty of the acting,” Darsheel said in conversation with The Daily Guardian newspaper, adding that “I learned the craft to that level that I can easily now crawl into the skin of any role like I did in the Gamerlog’s protagonist Raghu. At this juncture, I love to do challenging roles. ”

He did not overrule the possibility of opting the ‘method acting’ if role demands.

On how being typecast in the industry for his image on the ‘Taare Zameen Par’ movie, he said “I want to blur out that image of mine. Being typecast is not good for any actor.”

Talking on the choosing a different genre than his previous work for Gamerlog, producer Abhinay said, “I never believed in playing safe and typecast my work. I love to experiment and try different storylines.”

He said that he respects the audience and their intelligence. “We should not underestimate the intellect of our audience.”

With time, the audience taste has also evolved. It will outrightly deny any work when it is not upto the mark or provide any food for thought, Abhinay said.

“To make the audience love the craft, I have to leave my comfort zone and challenge myself with new genre all the time,” he said.

Women can also excel in movie production: Neeta Shah

Responding to the question that why women producers are less in comparison to men producers in the Indian film industry, Neeta Shah, one of the producers of the Gamerlog and several Hindi movies, said “women have to work harder and carve the niche to achieve success in the movie production”.

Asking whether there is season 2 of the Gamerlog series in the offing, she said that it has been ended on the cliffhanger so the possibility of the season 2 cannot be ruled out.

India Bans Pakistani Content on OTT Platforms Amid Operation Sindoor Fallout

In a sweeping order made in the face of rising tensions with Pakistan, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting directed all OTT platforms working in India to immediately stop airing Pakistani content. The notification, tweeted by news agency ANI, read, In the pursuit of national security, all OTT platforms, media streaming platforms, and intermediaries present in India are requested to halt the web-series, movies, songs, podcasts, and other streaming media content, whether available on a subscription model or otherwise, originating from Pakistan with immediate effect.

This historic move follows India’s strong military reaction to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, predominantly tourists. Indian armed forces carried out targeted attacks on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under Operation Sindoor between 1.04 am and 1.30 am on Wednesday.

Financial and Cultural Reverberations

As tensions escalate, the ripple effects have spilled over to financial markets and also to the entertainment sector. Markets have proven volatile, with non-deliverable forwards for the Indian rupee capturing expected economic instability. In the meantime, Pakistan reacted to India’s strikes by sealing its airspace, according to Pakistan International Airlines Corp.

Supreme Court Issues Notices to Netflix, Amazon Prime, & Others Over “Obscene” Content

The Supreme Court of India on Monday sent notices to top streaming websites such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and others following a public interest litigation (PIL) which alleges that these websites are distributing “obscene” material. The Supreme Court has consented to hear the petition and requested the Centre to file its response to the current and proposed norms for digital media.

Government Admits Regulatory Oversight Needed

During the hearing, the government’s representative Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that there are already some regulations in place for OTT platforms. At the same time, he said the government is considering new regulations to deal with the issues at hand. The Solicitor General highlighted the need to balance freedom of speech with regulation while expressing concerns regarding the nature of content on streaming platforms.

The Centre’s report provided serious issues regarding some of the content carried on OTT platforms. The government labeled such content not only as obscene but also “perverse,” highlighting that although it could be for adults, controlling access to such content is a challenge. The government highlighted that ensuring that such material does not end up in unintended audiences’ hands is a challenge.

Severe Remarks on Obscene Content Availability

The Solicitor General underscored the seriousness of the situation by stating, “Two men sitting together will not be able to watch” some of the material that is already available on OTT platforms. This statement refers to the extent of the material in question, and this adds to the concerns regarding its potential effect on viewers.

The Supreme Court’s notice and the Centre’s approach indicate an increasing realization of the necessity to better regulate OTT platforms. With streaming services becoming a part of everyday entertainment, the necessity for clearer guidelines to strike a balance between freedom of expression and content moderation is becoming ever more essential.

Speaking to ANI on Sunday, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi assured that the government is already examining the issue of inappropriate content on OTT platforms. “We completely agree with that. This is a worldwide problem. The government will always think about that, and the concerned ministry will take action,” Joshi stated. He added that the authorities are working on the matter based on feedback received from various quarters.

RSS Chief Raises Alarm Over OTT Impact on Youth

In his annual Vijayadashami speech on Saturday in Nagpur, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat voiced apprehension over the negative influence that certain content on OTT platforms is having on children and youth. Bhagwat pointed out that mobile phones have become widely accessible to children, and there is little control over what they watch. He warned that the propagation of poor values through these platforms is damaging the minds of Bharat’s younger generation.

‘Ranneeti Balakot and Beyond’, which premiered on OTT on Thursday (April 25), has created a fair deal of buzz among fans with its intense trailer and inherently intriguing narrative. The nine-episode series centres on the events following the Pulwama attacks as India gears up to settle scores with Pakistan.

According to IMDb, the synopsis reads

“Post the deadly Pulwama attacks, Kashyap and his team strike back with a fitting reply. In the age of hybrid warfare, they must race against time to bring back their captured pilot while also battling Pakistan’s lies in global media.”

Ranneeti Balakot and Beyond is the brainchild of five writers namely Ramiz Ilham Khan, Maitrey Bajpai, Sanjay Chopra, Sudeep Nigam, and Aniruddha Guha. All episodes are directed by Santosh Singh.

‘Mirzapur’ Returns with More “Masala” in Season 3, Says Ali Fazal

‘Mirzapur Season 2’ ended with several unresolved questions, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the fate of their favorite characters. Among the mysteries was why Sharad (Anjum Sharma) saved Kaleen Bhaiyya (Pankaj Tripathi) and what lies ahead for him. Ali Fazal, confirming the return of the beloved series with more “masala,” hinted at answers to these questions.

During the Prime Video event in Mumbai, the cast, including Shweta Tripathi, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Rasika Dugal, and Vijay Varma, came together to express their excitement for the upcoming third season. Fazal remarked, “Finally we are back and there’s more masala in it.”

Anil Kapoor to star in action drama ‘Subedaar’

Anil Kapoor continues his streak with another exciting project after ‘Animal’ and ‘Fighter,’ as he gears up to headline the action-packed drama ‘Subedaar.’ The official announcement came during Prime Video’s event in Mumbai, where Kapoor’s intense look in a shirt-and-trouser ensemble, holding a rifle, was unveiled in the poster.

Directed by Suresh Triveni, known for helming T-Series’ comedy-drama ‘Tumhari Sulu’ (2017) and ‘Jalsa,’ both featuring Vidya Balan, ‘Subedaar’ sees Kapoor take on the role of Arjun Singh, grappling with the challenges of civilian life, including a strained relationship with his daughter and societal issues. The film is produced by Vikram Malhotra, Suresh Triveni, and Anil Kapoor.

“In an adrenaline – fueled action drama, Subedaar Arjun Singh grapples with civilian life, navigating a strained relationship with his daughter, and societal dysfunction. The man who once fought for the nation must now fight enemies within to protect his home and family,” read the official synopsis of the project.

Meanwhile, Kapoor is enjoying the success of Siddharth Anand’s aerial action thriller ‘Fighter,’ where he stars alongside Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Karan Singh Grover, and Akshay Oberoi. In ‘Fighter,’ Kapoor portrays Group Captain Rakesh Jai Singh, fighting alongside Roshan’s Squadron Leader Shamsher Pathania and Padukone’s Squadron Leader Minal Rathore. The film, marking the first collaboration between Roshan and Padukone, hit theaters on January 25.

‘Kota Factory’: Teaser of 3rd season released

The third season teaser for the popular television show ‘Kota Factory’ was released by its creators on Thursday.

Taking to Instagram, OTT platform Netflix dropped the teaser that they captioned, “Sharpen your pencils, aur saare formulae yaad karlo- Jeetu Bhaiya and his students are getting ready for their BIGGEST challenge yet!!”

Actors Jitendra Kumar, Mayur More, Ahsaas Channa, Alam Khan, and Ranjan Raj have major parts in the next season.

The third season will be streaming on the OTT platform Netflix. However, the show’s official release date is still awaited.

The season’s tagline states that students are getting ready for the crucial IIT JEE exam after overcoming the challenging beginning preparation and the constant academic pressure.

In this high-stakes drama of the highly anticipated third season, the students’ unknown fate is in jeopardy as their steadfast mentor and inspiration, Jeetu Bhaiya, embarks on his emotional quest to find his calling, according to a press release from the PR team.
