</excerpt>

New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh announced on Friday he intends to introduce a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government when Canada’s House of Commons reconvenes January 27. The move could end Trudeau’s nine-year tenure and spark an early election.

Singh outlined his plans in an open letter, asserting, “We will put forward a clear motion of non-confidence in the next sitting of the House of Commons.” If all opposition parties unite in the vote, the minority Liberal government would fall, necessitating an election.

Trudeau, who is facing pressure after the sudden decision of his finance minister on Monday, will reshuffle his cabinet. His office has refused to comment on the announcement that Singh made today.

Polls taken over the last 18 months have shown a drop in popularity for the Liberals, voter fatigue and dissatisfaction that can suggest an even more serious loss in the next election. Officially, the vote is due by October 2025, but Singh’s promise has hinted at the possibility of the contest sooner.

Singh attacked Trudeau by not doing anything about pressing the issues, saying, “The Liberals don’t deserve another chance. That’s why the NDP will vote to bring this government down.”

For the NDP, sharing exactly the same progressive voter base with that of the Liberals, it has been accused that Trudeau has preferred corporate interests over citizenry needs. And though he keeps the Liberals in power so long, Singh’s declaration is a much-needed change in the plan of opposition.

A source close to Trudeau suggested that the prime minister plans to use the holiday break to consider his next steps but is unlikely to announce any decisions before January.

</excerpt>

The opposition is reportedly considering submitting a notice for a resolution to remove Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar from office, following escalating tensions between the Rajya Sabha chairman and the opposition’s INDIA bloc. According to sources cited by media, opposition parties had previously gathered the necessary signatures for the notice in August but chose to hold off, hoping to give Dhankhar “another chance.” However, his conduct in the House on Monday prompted them to take action.

Congress Leads the Charge with Support from Allies

The Congress party is spearheading the move, receiving backing from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Samajwadi Party, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and other members of the INDIA bloc. The proposed resolution invokes Article 67(b) of the Constitution, which outlines the procedure for removing the vice president. For the resolution to pass, it requires a majority vote in the Rajya Sabha, followed by agreement from the Lok Sabha, and must be preceded by at least 14 days’ notice.

Parliament Adjourned Amid Disruptions

Meanwhile, both houses of Parliament, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, have been adjourned until Tuesday following disruptions in proceedings. The adjournments came after tensions flared during zero hour, particularly over allegations made by Leader of the House JP Nadda regarding Congress leaders’ connections to the Forum of Democratic Leaders in the Asia-Pacific (FDL-AP). Nadda claimed that the FDL-AP received financial backing from the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and viewed Jammu and Kashmir as a “separate entity,” further alleging ties to billionaire philanthropist George Soros.

The allegations sparked sharp reactions from opposition members, who accused the BJP of using the issue as a diversion tactic. As BJP members pressed for a discussion on these allegations, Chairman Dhankhar sought an explanation for the protests from opposition members. Several BJP and NDA MPs argued that the matter was tied to national security and demanded immediate deliberation. However, opposition leaders challenged Dhankhar’s handling of the situation, questioning how he could allow BJP members to raise an issue he had previously dismissed by rejecting their notices under Rule 267.

“This is most unfair,” said Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. “You have rejected the notices. Yet, an issue that you disallowed is now being raised. It appears to be part of a larger game plan to stall the House.” Ramesh further accused the BJP of attempting to shift focus from ongoing allegations surrounding the Adani Group, a sentiment echoed by several Congress members.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lashed out at the Congress and its allies on Thursday, saying they trusted Pakistan more after a terrorist incident but never considered the feelings of the country’s population. PM Modi

In response to a debate on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Modi stated that the Congress and its allies have a history of not trusting India and its armed forces, but they have reached out to separatists in Kashmir.

During his speech PM was heard saying that “Whom did they believe? Pakistan used to attack our borders, they used to send across terrorists and then Pakistan would shrug off its responsibility, it never took any responsibility. They had such love for Pakistan that they used to believe Pakistan immediately.”

He further added “Pakistan used to say terror attacks will take place and talks will also take place. They even went to the extent to believe that if Pakistan is saying, it must be true.”

Prime Minister even went on to say that Kashmir was on fire due to terrorism, but the Congress leadership did not believe the common man.

He said “They used to trust the Hurriyat, they used to trust the separatists, they used to believe those who carried the Pakistani flag.”

The prime minister stated that when India conducted out surgical strikes and air strikes against terrorists, the Congress and its allies did not accept the armed forces and instead believed the enemy’s allegations.

Modi claimed that the opposition have an incredible magnetic potential to absorb and amplify every word made against India.

</excerpt>

In response to the Opposition’s no-confidence move against the NDA administration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet faced a no-confidence vote for the second time in nine years.

The no-confidence motion was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday and defeated on Thursday following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response.

On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who returned to Parliament after nearly four months away, took part in the debate. Since the start of the Monsoon Session on July 20, the Parliament has been stalled on a variety of matters, including the violence in Manipur.

During the debate, the Congress leader mentioned his journey to Manipur and talks with victims of violence in the state, saying that ‘Bharat’ is the voice of the people of the country, and that “voice was killed in Manipur.”

After the no-confidence motion, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi revealed while conversing with the media that, “The Opposition didn’t have trust in their no-confidence motion.

“Their statements were non-reliable and the nation didn’t believe them. Most importantly, these people have betrayed the nation…The House which has a majority of 272 and 303 MPs sitting there belong to one party and they are bringing a no-confidence motion against that party.”

Meanwhile, after the Opposition walked out of the House as PM Modi was replying on no-confidence motion, Congress MP K Suresh heard saying to the media that, “He (PM Modi) has given a political speech. He attacked the Congress.”

In addition Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav stated that “The reason behind the no-confidence motion was Manipur where several women were raped, children were killed and several other incidents but PM didn’t say anything about Manipur and didn’t stand with the people of Manipur & that’s why the opposition staged a walkout.”

RJD MP Manoj Jha was heard saying that, “We thought that PM Modi will speak on Manipur…But what did we see? Comments, jokes and Whatsapp talks… This was not expected from PM Modi…”

“I want to say this with absolute seriousness that the Congress is the mother of all issues of Northeast. People of Northeast are not responsible for it, it is their (Congress’) politics,” says PM Modi during no-confidence motion debate in Lok Sabha.
