They facilitated risky journeys through multiple countries and handled hawala transfers to Latin America. Investigation in the case continues.
</excerpt>

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended two main individuals suspected of being involved in human trafficking to the United States through the notorious ‘dunki’ route, officials reported on Saturday.

According to them, these arrests followed raids at separate locations in Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.

Identified as Sunny alias Sunny Donker from Dharamshala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, and Shubham Sandhal alias Deep Hundi from Ropar, Punjab who had been living in Peeragarhi, Outer Delhi, the two were arrested on Friday, the NIA said in its release.

The investigating agency characterized both of them as close friends of Gagandeep Singh alias Goldy, who had been arrested in March.

Gagandeep’s arrest came after a victim, who was smuggled into the US via the dunki route and later deported back to India in February, filed a complaint.

The word ‘dunki’, thought to be derived from ‘donkey’, refers to illegal and treacherous paths that migrants use to enter nations such as the United States without proper papers.

The agency reported that this hazardous and tiresome journey is usually organized by human trafficking rings. “Their victims were physically and mentally harassed during the journey by the donkers and agents intent on making extra money,” it added.

The NIA described Shubham Sandhal as an important hawala courier, who assisted in routing money to donkers in Latin America.

The agency further stated that Gagandeep depended on him to remit shares of the money taken from the victims to these donkers deployed in Latin American nations.

Taking over the investigation from Punjab Police on March 13, 2025, the NIA is still investigating the case, the statement further said.

Earlier, the NIA had charged a chargesheet against Gagandeep Singh, a Tilak Nagar resident in Delhi, on June 27.

Their investigation found that Gagandeep took around Rs. 45 lakh from every visitor, promising to send them to the US on valid visas.

Instead, he sent them on a harrowing journey through multiple countries, including Spain, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico, the agency said.

Gagandeep had illegally sent more than 100 people to the US before being arrested, the NIA said.

Sunny, who was the main associate or ‘donker’ of Gagandeep’s operation, was heavily involved in arranging these illegal voyages, the agency added.

</excerpt>

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday publicly invited all visitors, tourists, and locals who may have any information, photographs, or videos related to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack to come forward and report them.

Officials added that the agency has already collected a large number of images and videos pertaining to the attack and is now processing them for leads. The NIA, which is investigating the attack, wants to scrutinize each piece of content for possible clues regarding the terrorists and their mode of operation.

Public Might Hold Key Evidence, Says NIA

The NIA feels that most individuals—consciously or unconsciously—might have recorded or observed something significant. “Tourists and others may have, advertently or inadvertently, seen, heard or clicked some relevant detail that may help NIA unravel the conspiracy behind the unprecedented attack on tourists in Kashmir,” officials said.

In a statement, the agency declared, “It has now decided to scale up its efforts even more intensely to ensure that no useful information or evidence is missed out in its investigation into the horrendous crime against humanity.”

Helpline Numbers Released

To ease the process, the NIA has asked citizens to dial 96-54-958-816 or 011-24368800. A senior agency official will then help the caller in sending any related content or leads.

Social Media Videos Under Scanner

Following the terror attack at Baisaran in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir, a number of images started floating on social media websites. The attack resulted in 26 tourist deaths and injured a host of others.

NIA Continues Ground-Level Inquiry

NIA teams have been deployed in Pahalgam, where they continue to investigate the crime scene and interrogate eyewitnesses. The agency is determined to leave no stone unturned in pursuing the entire magnitude of the attack and bringing the perpetrators to book.

</excerpt>

In its preliminary findings, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has uncovered strong evidence indicating the involvement of Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and operatives from the Pakistan Army in orchestrating the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Times Now, one of the suspects, Hashim Musa, also known as Suleman or Suleiman, is believed to be a former para commando of the Pakistan Army’s elite special forces. The NIA has identified him as a key player in the execution of the deadly assault.

Initial TRF Claim Withdrawn Under Pressure

The Resistance Front (TRF), widely considered a proxy of LeT, initially took responsibility for the attack. However, the group soon retracted its claim amid growing global scrutiny and stated that its earlier announcement was a “breach.” In a controversial move, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar revealed that Islamabad had successfully used its influence at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to remove TRF’s name from statements referencing the attack.

Terrorists Coordinated from PoK

Investigations have revealed that the terrorists, numbering between five to seven, maintained frequent contact with their handlers located across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These handlers are believed to have played an instrumental role in directing and executing the operation remotely.

Sources stated that overground workers provided vital logistical support and local intelligence. Prior to the assault, the attackers reportedly stashed their weapons in Betaab Valley, a popular tourist destination, to avoid early detection.

Hunt Continues in South Kashmir Forests

On April 22, terrorists opened fire on civilians in the Baisaran Valley area of Pahalgam, killing 26 people, most of whom were tourists. The NIA officially took over the case on April 27 and continues to pursue leads suggesting that some of the attackers may still be hiding in the dense forests of South Kashmir.

India Responds with Strong Diplomatic and Strategic Actions

The Indian government has vowed to deliver severe punishment to those behind the brutal attack and has undertaken several punitive actions against Pakistan. These include:

Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty

Shutting down the Attari land transit route

Cancellation of visas for Pakistani nationals

Closure of Indian airspace to Pakistani aircraft

These measures reflect India’s firm stance on cross-border terrorism and signal its intention to escalate diplomatic pressure on Islamabad over its continued support for terror networks.

</excerpt>

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday returned to Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam to conduct a detailed 3D mapping of the site where 26 tourists were killed in a recent terror attack. Officials said the reconstruction effort is based on witness testimonies and technical inputs to pinpoint the movement and location of all involved.

According to sources familiar with the probe, the anti-terror agency relied on the statements of victims’ families, pony operators, local vendors, and workers who were present at the meadow on April 22. The team also used satellite imagery, surveillance footage, and videos taken by investigators at the site to build an accurate visual representation of the incident.

“A NIA team, armed with the testimonies of the family members of those killed present at Baisaran on April 22, the pony operators, vendors and other workers there, as well as technical data like satellite imagery, video footage of the meadow shot by the investigation team, visited the site on Wednesday for 3D mapping,” said an officer who requested anonymity.

He added, “The 3D mapping will provide accurate, graphic-rich visualization of the attack site, which can be used while questioning hundreds of people without bringing them to the site and understand the exact location of everyone who was present that day, entry and exit points of the terrorists, and the radius in which the killings took place.”

The mapping exercise, supported by forensic experts, mirrors techniques previously employed by the NIA in high-profile cases such as the 2019 Pulwama terror attack and the RG Kar hospital rape case. During the Pulwama investigation, officials mapped the route of suicide bomber Adil Ahmad Dar and traced where explosives like RDX and gelatin sticks were procured.

Sharing more on this, another officer said, “The route taken by Maulana Masood Azhar’s nephew Umar Farooq, suicide bomber Adil Ahmad Dar, and places from where the terrorists collected gelatin sticks, ammonium nitrate, ammonium powder and RDX were mapped.”

Currently, an Inspector General-rank officer is leading the on-ground probe in Pahalgam. Investigators have questioned several individuals, including overground workers of terror groups, local pony guides, vendors, photographers, and adventure sport staff to gather leads.

So far, authorities believe four to five terrorists carried out the brutal ambush. Sketches of three have been released—Ali Bhai alias Talha Bhai and Hashim Musa alias Suleiman, both believed to be Pakistani nationals, and a local operative, Adil Hussain Thoker. All are currently being pursued by Indian security forces.

The NIA officially took over the case on Sunday. The attack has been attributed to the Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), operating through its proxy outfit The Resistance Front (TRF).

The NIA confirmed receiving custody of Rana, who now faces trial on 10 terror-related charges.
</excerpt>

The United States has made public the first official photo of Tahawwur Rana’s extradition to India for trial in the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people. The photo, released late Thursday, captures US Marshals transferring Rana into Indian officials’ custody before he flew out on a special aircraft to New Delhi.

In the picture, the 64-year-old is shackled waist and feet and accompanied by gun-carrying officers. NIA confirmed Rana’s arrival on Thursday morning and described the extradition as a “crucial step” for the longstanding case.

“Rana’s Extradition Is Critical for Justice”

In a press statement, the US Department of Justice said, “The United States on Wednesday extradited convicted terrorist Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Canadian citizen and native of Pakistan, to stand trial in India on 10 criminal charges stemming from his alleged role in the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.”

“Rana’s extradition is a critical step toward seeking justice for the six Americans and scores of other victims who were killed in the heinous attacks,” the statement continued.

NIA Gets Custody After Years-Long Court Battle

The NIA, in its release, stated that it had “successfully secured” the extradition of Rana after “sustained and concerted efforts.” Rana had opposed the move through a series of legal appeals in the US. His extradition was cleared by a court in May 2023, but he approached the Ninth Circuit and the US Supreme Court—both of which were later dismissed.

NIA Formally Arrests 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack Conspirator Tahawwur Rana on Arrival at IGI, New Delhi pic.twitter.com/CEdO1QwURi

— NIA India (@NIA_India) April 10, 2025

His last legal argument was denied on April 4, 2025. On April 9, the US Marshals Service “executed the Secretary’s surrender warrant by surrendering Rana to Indian authorities for transportation to India,” the DOJ reported.

Charged with Aiding LeT Operative David Headley

Tahawwur Rana is charged with assisting his boyhood friend, David Coleman Headley—a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative who spied out sites of attack in Mumbai. The US release stated, “On two separate occasions, Rana allegedly assisted Headley in preparing and filing visa applications with Indian authorities that included information Rana knew to be false.”

He is also charged with giving cover of business from his immigration business for Headley to travel and establish an office in Mumbai. Rana has been said to have told Headley the victims “deserved it” following the attack and complimenting the attackers that they “should be given Nishan-e-Haider.”

26/11 Attacks and International Impact

The 2008 Mumbai attacks, carried out by 10 LeT terrorists, hit iconic landmarks such as the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, the CST station, Leopold Café, and Chabad House. Six US citizens were among the 166 dead. The attack also resulted in more than $1.5 billion worth of damages.

With Rana now in Indian custody, the NIA will likely step up its efforts to bring the other conspirators to book.

</excerpt>

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended a key accused in a conspiracy case involving the CPI (Maoist) in Jharkhand.

According to an official press release, Bachha Singh, also known as Bachha Babu Singh, a resident of Govindpur(B) in Bokaro district, Jharkhand, was arrested on Friday. Singh had been named as an accused in the FIR registered against him.

The case, initially handled by the Anandpur police, was transferred to the NIA in August 2023. It involves charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act) and the Criminal Law Amendment (CLA) Act.

Investigations revealed that Singh, who served as Secretary of the Majdoor Sanghatan Samiti (MSS)—a group banned by the Jharkhand government under the CLA Act—was actively involved with the proscribed CPI (Maoist) organization. Singh played a pivotal role in raising funds to support the outfit’s activities and propagate its ideology across Jharkhand and other regions.

The case originated in July 2022 with the arrest of three CPI (Maoist) cadres in the Chaibasa district of Jharkhand. The arrested individuals were reportedly en route to meet Misir Besra, a Polit Bureau member of the CPI (Maoist), carrying letters written by Maoist leaders Lajim Ansari and Saurabh. The investigation is ongoing.

Separately, in a significant development in the Bijoy Bhunia abduction and murder case in West Bengal, the NIA arrested an absconding accused in Pune, Maharashtra.

Mohan Mondal was apprehended on Thursday in connection with the May 2023 abduction and murder of Bijoy Krishna Bhunia in Goramahal village, Moyna, in Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal. Mondal had been evading arrest and had non-bailable warrants issued against him.

He is the third individual arrested in the case, following the earlier apprehension of Naba Kumar Mondal and Suvendu Bhowmick. The NIA took over the investigation from Moyna police on the orders of the Calcutta High Court on April 5, 2024. Investigations in the case are also ongoing.

</excerpt>

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has assumed responsibility for three key cases linked to the recent outbreak of violence in Manipur. The incidents, which occurred during the first two weeks of November 2024, resulted in the loss of lives and extensive disruption of public order, prompting a transfer of cases from the Manipur Police to the NIA. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed this transition, citing the seriousness of the violence and its impact on the hilly state.

Details of the Three Cases

The first case was initially registered on November 8, 2024, at Jiribam Police Station. It involves the murder of a woman in the Jiribam area by armed militants. The second case, registered on November 11 at Borobekra Police Station, pertains to an armed attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) post (A-company, 20th Battalion) at Jakuradhor Karong in Jiribam. The third case, also registered on November 11 at Borobekra, involves the burning of houses and the killing of civilians in the Borobekra area.

These cases were formally handed over to the NIA on November 13, following the MHA’s directive to transfer the investigations due to the escalating violence and its severe repercussions on peace and stability in Manipur.

In an official statement issued on November 16, the MHA emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation by the NIA to address the root causes of the violence. “Important cases have been handed over to the NIA for effective investigation,” the statement noted. The transfer follows a period of heightened instability, with clashes between armed groups from both the Kuki-Zo-Hmar and Meitei communities resulting in fatalities and public disorder.

To address the deteriorating security situation, the MHA has directed all security forces to take necessary actions to restore order. It warned of strict measures against those engaging in violent activities and appealed to the public to maintain calm, refrain from spreading rumors, and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure peace.

Deployment of Additional Forces

In light of the recent violence, the MHA has sanctioned the deployment of an additional 2,000 personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). More reinforcements may be dispatched if the situation demands, according to sources familiar with the security plans.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, taking note of the escalating violence, held a high-level meeting with senior officials on Sunday in New Delhi to assess the security scenario. He is expected to chair another meeting today to discuss further measures to stabilize the region.

Following the recent spate of killings, including a gun battle in Jiribam between CRPF personnel and Kuki militants that resulted in the deaths of at least 10 militants, the Manipur Police imposed a curfew in Imphal West and Imphal East districts. The administration has also suspended internet services across seven districts to curb the spread of misinformation.

In addition, heightened security measures have been implemented across Imphal, with significant deployment of forces outside Chief Minister Biren Singh’s residence and the Raj Bhavan. The streets of Imphal saw minimal vehicle movement, indicating the tense atmosphere prevailing in the city.

In a related development, the NIA has also taken over a separate case involving the abduction of six individuals in Jiribam. The bodies of the victims were discovered shortly after the incident, adding to the mounting violence and unrest in the state.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with ongoing efforts to restore peace and order, as Manipur grapples with renewed tensions and instability.

The raids are part of an investigation into a conspiracy involving Bangladeshi nationals associated with Al-Qaeda, aimed at destabilizing India.

Raids Across Six States in Anti-Terror Operation

Early on Monday, NIA teams carried out searches at nine locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Tripura, and Assam. The premises searched are reportedly linked to individuals suspected of supporting and funding Al-Qaeda’s activities in India. The agency’s search operations yielded crucial evidence, including banking transaction documents, digital devices such as mobile phones, and other materials related to terror funding activities.

According to NIA sources, “The suspects whose premises were raided are sympathizers of a Bangladesh-based Al-Qaeda network.” The searches were part of an ongoing investigation into a case registered in 2023, which focuses on a conspiracy led by Bangladesh-based Al-Qaeda operatives in collaboration with individuals already under arrest.

Conspiracy to Radicalize Youth in India

The NIA revealed that the suspects were involved in promoting Al-Qaeda’s violent ideology and radicalizing vulnerable Muslim youth in India. They were also engaged in raising funds and transferring them to Al-Qaeda to facilitate its activities. The agency noted that the arrested individuals had used forged documents to carry out their operations covertly.

In November of the previous year, the NIA filed charges against five individuals in connection with this case. Four of the accused are Bangladeshi nationals: Mohd. Sojibmiyan, Munna Khalid Ansari (alias Munna Khan), Azarul Islam (alias Jahangir or Aakash Khan), and Abdul Latif (alias Mominul Ansari). The fifth accused, Farid, is an Indian national.

The agency’s findings show that these accused were involved in spreading Al-Qaeda’s ideology and recruiting Indian youth. “They were actively engaged in radicalizing, motivating, and recruiting vulnerable youths, while also collecting and transferring funds to support Al-Qaeda’s objectives,” stated the NIA.

The NIA’s latest actions underline its focus on dismantling terror networks within India and countering the influence of external extremist organizations. The ongoing investigation aims to prevent further radicalization efforts and secure national security by disrupting potential terrorist activities.

Using Emerging Technologies: Discussing how new technologies can aid in counter-terrorism and the challenges they may bring.

Boosting International Cooperation: Enhancing global partnerships to dismantle terror networks within and beyond India.

The MHA highlighted that the conference will create synergies among agencies, promoting a “whole of the government” response to terrorism.

</excerpt>

The NIA Special Court in Bengaluru has sentenced an individual to six years of simple imprisonment in connection with a 2018 fake currency seizure case, according to a statement by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The convicted, Sariful Islam, also known as Sarifulla or Sharifuddin, hailing from West Bengal, has been fined Rs. 5,000. He is the seventh person to be convicted in the case identified as RC-12/2018/NIA/DLI, also known as the Chikodi FICN Case.

NIA investigations uncovered that Sariful Islam conspired with six others to traffic 41 Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs) with a face value of Rs. 82,000 from the Bangladesh border to various parts of India. He fraudulently obtained a SIM card to coordinate with his co-conspirators for procuring the counterfeit notes from West Bengal and distributing them across the country.

Further investigations revealed that Islam had previously delivered FICNs worth Rs. 10.30 lakh to the main convict, Dalim Mia, in West Bengal. The conspiracy aimed to destabilize India’s monetary system and economic security.

The NIA continues its investigation into the involvement of two Bangladeshi nationals who supplied the FICNs to the accused. So far, the agency has filed three chargesheets in this case.

In a separate operation, the NIA recently conducted search operations at seven locations in Bihar’s Kaimur and Rohtas districts as part of a crackdown on CPI (Maoist) activities. The raids, which targeted associates of key CPI (Maoist) leaders Vijay Kumar Arya and Umesh Chaudhary, resulted in the seizure of incriminating digital devices, documents, and live ammunition. These leaders were apprehended by the NIA in April 2022.

The attached property, a residential house belonging to Nasir Rashid Bhat in Tengpora village, Shopian, was seized under Section 33(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, as per orders from the NIA Special Judge in Jammu.

Bhat, an operative of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen, was involved in the killing of the Sarpanch on March 11, 2022. The murder was part of a broader conspiracy by the terror outfit to instill fear and disrupt peace in the region. NIA investigations revealed that the killing aimed to undermine India’s sovereignty and security through targeted attacks.

According to the NIA, Bhat played a critical role in the conspiracy by providing his car for reconnaissance of the Sarpanch’s residence and transporting the attackers to the site on the day of the incident.

The NIA has already filed a chargesheet against six individuals in the case, and the trial is ongoing.

This circular, issued in April 2024, affects inmates covered under Rule 631 of the Delhi Prison Rules, including those involved in serious offenses like terrorism.

The plea, filed by Masasasong AO, contends that the circular violates fundamental rights under Article 21 of the Constitution, as it limits communication with family and legal counsel. The petitioner argues that these communication facilities are crucial for maintaining personal connections and addressing family concerns. The court has issued a notice and requested responses from the relevant authorities.

</excerpt>

New Delhi/ Jammu, August 08: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against four individuals, including a Pakistan-based militant, in connection with the killing of two non-local civilians by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its affiliate, The Resistance Front (TRF), in Kashmir earlier this year.

According to an official statement, the accused—Adil Manzoor Langoo, Ahran Rasool Dar alias Tota, Dawood, and their Pakistan-based handler, Jahangeer alias Peer Sahab—have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The NIA special court in Jammu has already issued an open-ended non-bailable warrant against the absconding handler, Jahangeer.

The NIA spokesperson disclosed that the four were involved in the cold-blooded killing of two civilians on the evening of February 7, 2024, at Karfali Mohalla, Shala Kadal in Srinagar. The case, initially investigated by local authorities, was handed over to the NIA in June and re-registered as RC-01/2024/NIA/JMU.

The investigation revealed that Adil Manzoor Langoo, who joined LeT in 2023, was radicalized by Pakistani handlers to enhance the group’s activities in Srinagar. Langoo had previously participated in other terror activities in the Kashmir Valley. Along with his close associates, Ahran Rasool Dar and Dawood, he operated under Jahangeer’s direction, who had urged them to wage jihad in the Srinagar area, targeting non-locals to incite fear and terror with the intent of waging war against the Government of India.

The group allegedly conspired to kill the civilians at Shala Kadal on Jahangeer’s orders. Adil and Ahran had received the arms and ammunition from their handler, which were later used in the crime. Dawood is accused of assisting Adil in destroying evidence related to the incident.

The NIA has been intensifying its crackdown on terrorist organizations in Kashmir. LeT, the region’s largest terror group, has continued to operate through various offshoots despite being banned by the Indian government. The group, along with TRF, has been exploiting social media platforms to recruit unemployed youth into their ranks, spreading their violent agenda, the NIA spokesperson added.

The investigation into the case is ongoing.

During the investigation, a search was conducted at the premises of Shankar Yadav in February 2024, in which Rs 1.30 crore in cash was seized,” as per the statement.

The arrests were made following extensive searches conducted jointly by the NIA and state police forces across multiple locations in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh.

NIA investigations have disclosed that the accused were part of an organized trafficking syndicate that enticed and trafficked Indian youth to foreign countries under false promises of legal employment.

An official statement from the NIA stated, “The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted searches at multiple locations across six states and union territories in joint operations with local police in a case of human trafficking involving forced cyber crimes which led to the arrest of five accused persons.”

The arrested individuals were identified as Manish Hingu from Vadodara, Prahlad Singh from Gopalganj, Nabialam Ray from southwest Delhi, Balwant Kataria from Gurugram, and Sartaj Singh from Chandigarh.

During the searches, several incriminating materials such as documents, digital devices, handwritten registers, multiple passports, and bogus overseas employment letters were seized.

Additionally, eight fresh FIRs have been registered by various state and union territories’ police forces.

The youth were allegedly coerced into working in fake call centers in Laos, Golden Triangle SEZ, and Cambodia, among other locations, as part of the racket, which was primarily controlled and operated by foreign nationals.

“They were coerced into undertaking illegal activities online, such as credit card fraud, investments in Cryptocurrency using fake applications, honey trapping, etc,” the release stated.

Investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were collaborating with traffickers operating from across the international border to facilitate the illegal border-crossing of Indian youth from Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam to Laos SEZ. They were working under the direction of foreign-based agents belonging to well-organized syndicates that were active in several districts of Maharashtra, UP, Bihar, Gujarat, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, etc.

“These syndicates were further connected to operatives based in other parts of India, as well as foreign countries like UAE, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos SEZ, etc,” it added.

The NIA took over the case from the Mumbai police on 13th May 2024. It was discovered that the human trafficking syndicate was not confined to Mumbai but had connections with other facilitators and traffickers in various parts of the country and across the border.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.

</excerpt>

Three days following a widespread crackdown spanning four states in the Rameshwaram Cafe Blast Case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) made another significant arrest on Friday. The latest detainee, identified as Shoaib Ahmed Mirza @ Chhotu, is an ex-convict in a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror conspiracy case.

Shoaib Ahmed Mirza, aged 35 and hailing from Hubbali City, Karnataka, becomes the fifth individual apprehended in connection with the case (RC-01/2024/NIA/BLR). NIA’s investigations revealed that Mirza, previously convicted in an LeT conspiracy case in Bengaluru, became involved in the recent conspiracy upon his release from prison. In 2018, he purportedly facilitated the introduction of accused Abdul Matheen Taha to an online handler suspected to be located abroad. Mirza also allegedly provided an encrypted email ID for communication between the handler and Abdul Matheen Taha, who was apprehended on April 12 from Kolkata (West Bengal) along with co-accused Mussavir Hussain Shazib.

Since the Rameshwaram Café Blast on March 1, 2024, which resulted in injuries and extensive property damage, NIA has conducted thorough searches at 29 locations across India as part of its investigation. The agency continues to delve into the role of the handler and the broader conspiracy behind the blast.

The arrest of Shoaib Ahmed Mirza signifies a significant development in the ongoing probe, shedding light on potential links to previous terror activities and bringing investigators closer to unraveling the complexities of the Rameshwaram Cafe Blast case.

</excerpt>

Cracking down on Khalistani-Gangster Nexus, NIA Chargesheets Designated Terrorist Arsh Dala along with Three Aides in Pro-Khalistani terror-gangster Nexus Case on Monday.

Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dala, alongside his Indian counterparts Harjeet Singh alias Harry Maur, Ravinder Singh alias Rajvinder Singh alias Harry Rajpura, and Rajeev Kumar alias Sheela have been indicted before the NIA Special Court in New Delhi.

Thus, signifying a significant breakthrough in the NIA’s relentless pursuit to dismantle sleeper cells operated by Dala, which were aimed at orchestrating terrorist activities in various regions of Punjab and Delhi.

According to NIA, these three were instrumental in orchestrating a major terror gangster syndicate in India under the directives of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) terrorist Dala. With Rajeev Kumar’s support, Sleeper cells such as Harry Maur and Harry Rajpura, devising plans to carry out a series of terror attacks as per Dala’s instructions and with the financial backing received from him.

While Maur and Rajpura were designated as the gang’s gunmen tasked with executing targeted killings,

But Rajeev Kumar, alias Sheela on the other hand, was responsible for facilitating funding from Arsh Dala to harbor Maur and Rajpura. Moreover, NIA investigations have also revealed, that Rajeev Kumar also provided logistical support and procured weapons for the other two individuals at the behest of Arsh Dala.

Earlier, Harry Maur and Harry Rajpura were apprehended by NIA on November 23, 2023, subsequently followed by the arrest of Rajeev Kumar on January 12, 2024.

So, in this manner, NIA continues to reiterate its commitment in uprooting the entire terrorist gangster syndicate.

</excerpt>

Delhi High Court while granting bail to an alleged IS supporter under anti-terror UAPA law, said being fascinated with the terror organization, doesn’t amount to being associated with it.

As further noted by a bench of Justices Suresh Kait and Manoj Jain, they declared that accessing of hardliner muslin preacher isn’t enough to brand him as a member of such terrorist organization.

Later, the court also emphasized, that the accused Ammar Abdul Rahiman was just a radicalized person. Who was the believer of IS ideology and was storing alleged objectionable contents on his phone. But it doesn’t indicate that he tried to further disseminate this content.

As observed by the court, any curious mind nowadays can download and access such content from the internet. Which by itself isn’t a crime.

“Such type of incriminating material, in today’s electronic era, was freely available on World Wide Web (www) and mere accessing the same and even downloading the same would not be sufficient to hold that he had associated himself with IS, – Delhi Court while approving Rahman’s bail plea.

Later while granting the bail, court opined that merely downloading pro-IS material and accessing the sermons of Muslim hard-liners isn’t enough to attract Section 38 (offence relating to membership of a terrorist organization) and 39 (Offence relating to support given to a terrorist organisation) of UAPA.

What Was the Case?

Recently, The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had alleged that Rehman conspired with IS members for undertaking ‘Hijrah’ to Jammu and Kashmir and carry out the activities of IS in India.

</excerpt>

Arvind Kejriwal NIA Probe Row: In response to the proposal for an NIA probe into Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj accused LG VK Saxena of being a BJP agent, claiming his actions were part of a larger conspiracy against Kejriwal.

Bharadwaj stated, “LG is merely a pawn for the BJP. This is another plot against CM Kejriwal orchestrated by them, even before the Punjab Assembly elections.”

The principal secretary to LG VK Saxena wrote to the Ministry of Home Affairs, alleging Kejriwal’s acceptance of political funding from the pro-Khalistan group ‘Sikhs for Justice’ in exchange for the release of 1993 Delhi blast convict Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar.

The letter claimed possession of a video where terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun alleged that the AAP received $16 million between 2014 and 2022. It further alleged Kejriwal’s meeting with pro-Khalistan Sikh leaders in New York, promising Bhullar’s release.

This adds to Kejriwal’s challenges, already facing imprisonment since March over a liquor policy scandal. The Enforcement Directorate accused Kejriwal and other AAP members of accepting kickbacks as donations, prompting the AAP-led Delhi government to revoke the policy following LG VK Saxena’s recommendation for a CBI inquiry.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Manish Sisodia has been in custody since February last year on similar charges, and Sanjay Singh recently obtained bail after over five months in jail.

</excerpt>

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made another arrest in the Attari drugs seizure case, bringing the total number of arrests to eight, the agency announced on Wednesday.

The arrested individual, Athar Saeed alias Chacha, is accused of handling the proceeds of the drugs under the instructions of the main perpetrator, Shahid Ahmed.

Athar Saeed was apprehended on Tuesday following NIA raids at his residence in Delhi’s Darya Ganj area, during which incriminating documents were seized. These documents are currently being examined by the anti-terror agency to uncover the entire conspiracy behind the extensive drugs racket, the NIA stated.

NIA investigations have revealed that Athar played a significant role in establishing and maintaining a network of hawala operators and others for transferring the money earned from drug sales in India to Afghanistan and the UAE. He facilitated the transfer of drug proceeds to the main accused individuals located abroad and aided the prime accused in fleeing the country.

The case involves the recovery and seizure of 102.784 kgs of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 700 crores, by the Indian Customs in two separate incidents in April 2022. The drugs were imported from Afghanistan through ICP Attari, Amritsar, and were concealed in a consignment of Licorice roots (Mulethi).

</excerpt>

In a significant development regarding the Jammu and Kashmir terror conspiracy case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently conducted extensive searches across Kashmir. The operation targeted individuals linked to hybrid terrorists and Overground Workers (OGWs) associated with newly-formed offshoots and affiliates of several banned terrorist organizations. Notable among these are Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), Al-Badr, and Al-Qaeda.

During the raids conducted at nine locations, the NIA seized several digital devices containing substantial volumes of incriminating data and documents. These materials are crucial for unraveling the complete conspiracy and dismantling the terror networks operating in the region. The agency’s focus extends to scrutinizing the recovered digital devices and other data meticulously.

The NIA emphasized that the searches were part of its ongoing investigation under case number RC-05/2022/NIA/JMU, which it registered suo moto on June 21, 2022. This case pertains to a terror conspiracy involving plans by the aforementioned banned terrorist outfits and their newly formed offshoots to carry out violent activities in Jammu and Kashmir. The methods include using sticky bombs, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and small arms.

The agency also pointed out that the outfits targeted in the operation include the Resistance Front (TRF), United Liberation Front Jammu & Kashmir (ULFJ&K), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), Kashmir Tigers, PAAF, and others. These outfits are considered frontal organizations affiliated with the banned terrorist organizations and are accused of radicalizing local youth and mobilizing overground workers to disturb peace and communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir.

The NIA underscored that these activities are part of a larger nefarious agenda orchestrated by the main militant groups with support from their handlers based in Pakistan. The crackdown reflects the ongoing efforts by Indian security agencies to curb terrorism and maintain stability in the region.

</excerpt>

Bengaluru; In a significant breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has uncovered compelling evidence linking the Bellary module of ISIS to the Rameswaram cafe blast case in Kundalahalli, Bengaluru. Sources suggest that the prime suspect may be hiding either in Bellary or Pune, prompting extensive searches in these locations by NIA officials.

On December 14, 2023, NIA conducted raids across various places, including Bellary in Karnataka, leading to the arrest of eight individuals who are currently held in different jails across the country. Subsequently, body warrants were obtained for four suspects, and they were interrogated, yielding crucial information about the ISIS Bellary module’s involvement in the attack.

CCTV footage recorded the suspected terrorist boarding a bus to Pune at the Bellary bus stand on the day of the Rameswaram cafe explosion. Investigations are underway to trace his journey from Bellary. Meanwhile, suspicion surrounds Meenaz alias Sulaiman, a detainee from the Bellary on December 14, 2023. NIA officials intensified their interrogation of Sulaiman after obtaining a body warrant, leading to the detention of three suspected terrorists in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi. Meenaz alias Sulaiman, who was the head of the ISIS Bellary module, Syed Samir of Bellary in Bangalore jail, Anas Iqbal Shaikh in Mumbai jail and Shan Rehman alias Hussain in Delhi jail have been interrogated by the NIA officials.

Meenaz alias Sulaiman, identified as the head of the ISIS Bellary module, played a pivotal role in recruiting and radicalizing poor Muslim youth. Formerly associated with the PFI organization, Meenaz shifted allegiance to ISIS after the ban on PFI in India. The ISIS Bellary module president targeted vulnerable youth, particularly those associated with the PFI, brainwashing them in the name of freedom.

The investigation has unveiled Meenaz’s influence in forming a terrorist organization and his alleged involvement in the escape of one or two individuals who attacked Bellary on December 14, 2023. It is suspected that these escapees may have carried out the Rameswaram Cafe blast under Meenaz’s instructions while he was in jail.

Meenaz alias Sulaiman’s family background reveals his father running a clothing shop in Bellary, with both parents actively engaged in the business. His brother, previously working in Goa, returned after an accident, assisting their father in the shop. Sulaiman’s sister is reportedly pursuing MBBS in Tumkur.

The NIA’s continued efforts aim to dismantle the ISIS Bellary module and bring those responsible for the Rameswaram cafe blast to justice. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to apprehend the prime suspect and ensure the safety of the public.
