</excerpt>

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is an independent organization created by the Government of India to administer admission and eligibility examinations for higher education institutions. The main goal is to provide equitable, transparent, and uniform testing procedures nationwide. Since its establishment, the NTA has been tasked with overseeing a range of important examinations, such as the NET and NEET (UG), CUET, GPAT, CMAT that have significant impacts on academic and professional sphere in India. Establishment of this agency was aimed to ensure the integrity and dependability of these tests by establishing strong security measures, employing cutting-edge technology, and adhering to stringent standards. Nevertheless, recent disputes, such as the purported leakage of the NEET paper and the abrupt termination of the NET exam, have prompted doubts regarding its effectiveness and highlighted the necessity for ongoing enhancements and increased responsibility to fulfil the expectations of candidates and stakeholders.
The National Eligibility Test (NET) in India is a vital test for those seeking to pursue careers in academia and research. It is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NET test acts as a means for applicants to qualify for the position of Assistant Professor and get Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) at Indian institutions and colleges. The exam is conducted biannually and evaluates applicants’ expertise in many fields and their ability to do research.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)- UG is the primary entrance test for candidates who wish to enter undergraduate medical and dentistry degrees (MBBS/BDS) in India. Administered on a yearly basis by the NTA, NEET guarantees a standardized and competence-driven procedure for accepting students into medical institutions throughout the nation.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET-UG (medical entrance examination) was administered by the NTA on May 5 and the results were announced on June 4. The exam, which is currently making headlines due to allegations of question paper leakage and irregularities, attracted approximately 24 lakh students. Unprecedented in the history of NTA, a total of 67 candidates achieved All-India Rank 1. Reports of paper breaches and the distribution of grace marks have raised concerns about the integrity of the exam since that time.
The NTA also conducted University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) exam on June 18 but it was cancelled by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, on June 19, one day after it was administered, in order to guarantee the utmost transparency and integrity of the examination process. The report which came the very next day from a preliminary investigation said that the question paper was leaked 48 hours prior to the exam. The paper was sold for Rs 6 lakh on the dark web and encrypted social media platforms, according to the report. The National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs provided the University Grants Commission (UGC) with specific inputs regarding the examination on June 19, 2024. Prima facie, these inputs suggest that the integrity of the aforementioned examination may have been compromised. The protest that happened after the notice by NTA to cancel the exam was out, was attended by a significant number of students, including members of political organizations such as the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), All India Students Association (AISA), Democratic Students’ Front (DSF), Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), and Congress-affiliated NSUI. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which is affiliated with the RSS, also organized protests on the north campus of Delhi University and the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Thousands of applicants are in shock at the unexpected cancellation of the NET test, which has left candidates who spent months, preparing rigorously feeling severely emotionally and psychologically damaged. The sudden cancelation of the exam, together with the build-up to it, have left me feeling quite frustrated and let down. Furthermore, a large number of applicants had to bear a heavy financial load by paying for lodging, transportation, and other associated fees just to have their efforts in vain. Outside of the financial ramifications, the time and energy spent getting ready for the test are priceless. Many times, juggling other obligations, candidates carefully plan only to have their dreams dashed. The widespread anguish highlights how deeply these administrative mistakes affect the lives of conscientious professionals and students. Students now expect a similar response for the NEET test due to the precedent the cancellation of the NET exam has set. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accepted full responsibility for it. He also announced the creation of a high-level committee to improve the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) operations, examination procedures, transparency, and data security measures. In February, President Droupadi Murmu signed the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill into law. The bill was adopted by the Centre with the goal of preventing leaks, malpractices, and organized cheating in recruitment exams such as UPSC and SSC, as well as admission tests such as NEET, JEE, CUET, and NET.

The Punishments under Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 proposes that unfair means be punishable by imprisonment for three to five years with a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh.
In case a person, group or persons commits an organised crime of this nature which includes the examination authority, service providers or any other institutions, they will be punished with imprisonment of five to 10 years with a minimum fine of Rs 1 crore.
The law empowers agencies to attach and forfeit the properties of institutions involved in committing organised crime for the proportionate recovery of the cost of examination.

The law also states that an officer of the rank of deputy superintendent of police or assistant commissioner of police will be responsible for investigating any complaints under the Act. Despite the fact that the recently enforced Act cannot be applied retrospectively to the accused of NET & NEET-UG paper leak, this law is a hope to establish a more effective approach to address similar instances in future. It emphasizes how important it is to preserve test fairness and integrity. It is crucial to provide top priority to secure and transparent testing procedures in order to guarantee an impartial evaluation process for every applicant.

A Journey Filled with Struggles

Sarfaraz’s aspirations initially leaned toward joining the National Defence Academy (NDA). However, after clearing the first phase in 2022, a devastating accident before the interview derailed his plans. The Covid-19 pandemic became a turning point, shifting his focus to NEET preparation. Armed with sheer determination and inspired by YouTube lessons from Physics Wallah founder Alakh Pandey, Sarfaraz embarked on his medical journey.

</excerpt>

In a society where age often dictates career paths, one man’s journey challenges this notion, demonstrating that it’s never too late to chase your true passions. In India, many think returning to education after beginning a career is nearly impossible, yet inspiring individuals are rising to defy these beliefs. One such person is Jay Kishore Pradhan, a retired State Bank of India (SBI) employee, who cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) in 2020 at the age of 64.

A Fresh Start in Odisha

Originally from Odisha, Jay Kishore Pradhan retired as a deputy manager at SBI. Instead of winding down, Pradhan decided to pursue his long-standing dream of entering the medical profession. With determination and renewed purpose, he set out on a path to achieve his ambitions, balancing his educational goals with family responsibilities.

To prepare for the NEET, Pradhan adopted a methodical approach by enrolling in an online coaching program that offered structured support through the complex syllabus. His dedication and resilience were evident as he faced the challenges that came with his preparation.

Surmounting Obstacles

Despite the hurdles, including family pressures and the demands of preparing for a highly competitive exam, Pradhan remained steadfast. His relentless focus on passing the medical entrance exam kept him driven. Pradhan’s journey epitomizes the idea that age is merely a number and that dreams are always worth pursuing, regardless of one’s stage in life.

In 2020, his efforts bore fruit when he successfully passed the NEET exam, securing a much-coveted seat at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), marking a significant achievement in his journey.

No Age Limit

According to Section 14 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, there is no upper age limit for candidates taking the NEET (UG). This regulation encourages aspiring medical students of all ages to pursue their ambitions, reinforcing the belief that education and career goals can thrive at any stage of life.

</excerpt>

The Muktsar district of Punjab is mourning the sudden death of Dr. Navdeep Singh, a prominent medical student and NEET topper. Dr. Singh, 25, was a second-year MD student at Delhi’s Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC). His body was discovered on Sunday morning and handed over to his family by the evening. The cremation is scheduled for Monday afternoon in Muktsar.

According to a Delhi Police officer, “When he wasn’t picking up calls, his father sent a friend to check on him. The friend found that the door of his hostel room was locked from inside. It was prima facie found that the deceased died by suicide. Inquest proceedings are ongoing. No suicide note has been found.”

Dr. Singh gained national recognition in June 2017 when he topped the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). He had chosen Maulana Azad Medical College for its fee structure and expressed satisfaction with his 88 percent score in his Class 12 board exams.

Gopal Singh, Dr. Singh’s father and principal of a government senior secondary school in Sarainaga village, explained, “I am a Physics teacher, perhaps this was the reason that my son developed an interest in science and aspired to be a doctor.”

Kapil Sharma, Principal of Government Senior Secondary School in Tamkot village and a family friend, stated, “When he had topped the exam, people came to know about Muktsar. Many youngsters were inspired by him, and many functions were organized in the district to honor him. We are indeed in shock to hear this news.” Sharma added, “Gopal had spoken with Navdeep on Saturday evening and he was perfectly normal. He had not indicated any stress. We are surprised by this extreme step.”

Dr. Singh’s younger brother is also pursuing medical studies in Chandigarh.

In a video shared by Alakh Pandey, the humble setting of Sunny’s room was revealed, with its walls covered in study notes, a testament to his tireless effort and focus. Pandey expressed his admiration for Sunny’s achievement, highlighting the young man’s perseverance in the face of adversity.

A Passion for Medicine

Sunny’s interest in the medical field was sparked by his curiosity about how medicines work and how people are cured. “Seeing medicines sparked my interest. I wanted to understand how people get better, so I chose Biology,” he explained. His passion for medicine drove him to prepare for the NEET exam, despite the long hours spent working at his stall.

Sunny’s story is a powerful reminder that one’s current circumstances do not define their future. “Selling samosas won’t define my future,” Sunny asserted, emphasizing his determination to achieve his dreams.

Support from Physics Wallah

Sunny has been a student at Physics Wallah since the 11th grade, and his hard work did not go unnoticed. Moved by Sunny’s struggles and success, Alakh Pandey offered him a scholarship worth ₹6 lakh and promised to cover his medical college tuition fees. This support will undoubtedly help Sunny focus on his studies as he moves forward in his journey to becoming a doctor.

Sunny Kumar’s story is a beacon of hope and motivation for countless students facing similar challenges, proving that with determination, hard work, and a little support, anything is possible.

</excerpt>

As the 2024 NEET paper controversy continues to impact students’ lives and jeopardise the future of more than 24 lakh students, it triggered discussions on how technology could potentially mitigate some of the security challenges in these high-stakes exams. However, the fact that the paper was leaked on the dark web, which is the hidden part of the internet that is not indexed by regular search engines and circulated on telegrams, also highlights the failure of the present digital system. Many exams worldwide have started using digital systems to mitigate such security incidents, allowing for greater reliability, fairness and inclusion in high-stakes exams. Still, the existing digital divide and its unique challenges are also to be considered while discussing any potential shift in policy.

Even though the proposed Digital India Act, 2023 was placed for consultation on 9th March 2023 by then Minister of State for the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), Mr Rajeev Chandrasekhar, to replace the Information Technology Act of 2000 (IT Act), the concerns continue to exist. The Act is crucial to ensuring India’s secure, accountable and innovative digital future. However, issues like the NEET and UGC NET paper leaks raise questions regarding the safety of India’s digital architecture and the kind of controls that the government can exercise in such situations. In the past, on the occurrence of any such situations, the steps taken by the government include blocking or throttling of mobile communications, websites, social media and messaging applications that have affected the promotion and protection of the exercise of rights over the internet and have been condemned by international organisations like the UN.

In this context, the Digital India Act, 2023 aims to ensure online safety, trust and accountability, open internet, and regulations of new age technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies. The act will accompany the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, Digital India Act Rules, National Data Governance Policy, and IPC amendments for Cyber Crimes that have taken shape through the new criminal law acts since 1st July this year. This act seeks to ensure the openness, safety, trust, and accountability of the Internet, which is of paramount significance given the background of the paper leaks and violation of the rights of the students to have fair and transparent examinations.

One of the essential aspects the proposed Digital India Act will have to overcome is the Digital Divide. This phenomenon refers to the gap between the haves and the have-nots, that is, the absence of internet accessibility with the larger populace that affects the free flow of information, especially for the students who prepare for such exams. One such category of students is the socially and educationally disadvantaged students who come within the category of the have-nots. Such students have gained access to education in private schools with advanced digital technologies through the quota for them under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. Section 12(1) of the Act directs private schools to reserve 25% of seats for children from economically weaker sections. Children in this quota are admitted at the entry level, and the government bears the cost of the next eight years of their education.

However, implementing the same has been a concern, especially since the pandemic. The reason is high dropouts, especially for children from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, since the parents of these children lost their employment, which forced the children to contribute towards the sustenance of the family. Furthermore, the National Education Policy, 2020 has also ignored factors such as caste, religion, region or ethnicity for children from weaker sections of society and assumed a level playing field.

While India’s has the world’s second fastest-growing mobile market, it is lagging behind when it comes to internet connectivity. Oxfam’s India Inequality Report, 2022 stated that only 31 per cent of the rural population uses the internet compared to 67 per cent of the urban population and access to the internet through any device; urban children fared better in urban India at 44 per cent than in rural areas at 17 per cent, with only 4 per cent of students from SC and ST communities having access to a computer and the internet. The exorbitant costs of EdTech products also contributed to the digital divide.

The aspect of governmental control and reasons like national security and public order often have been cited to control internet access, which has also been recognised internationally by bodies like the International Telecommunication Union under its Constitution through Articles 34 and 35. The fact ignored while implementing such measures is its disproportionate impact on students needing internet access. This is more so in a country like India, which has regional disparities, lower internet penetration, less experienced digital regulatory institutions, unequal per capita income and varying digital skills.

Regarding the frequency of internet shutdowns, India holds the record for one of the highest number of shutdowns in the world. These shutdowns are executed through the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules 2017, under which the competent authorities have direct and express power to direct internet shutdowns. Additionally, the government can impose a shutdown under section 5(2) of the Telegraph Act, which authorises the government to detain telegraphs during a public emergency or in the interest of public safety.

Instead, there is a need for sustained and transformed digital empowerment based on principles of access, adoption and inclusivity that enhance citizen trust, especially for the students who constitute a more significant proportion of the users and make the system user-friendly. From a comparative aspect, the practice followed in the European Union may act as a guiding light. In Europe, the focus has been on content regulation, i.e. the material being displayed to the users over the internet, protection of free speech and the right to privacy. Moreover, Europe has taken a proactive approach regarding concerns related to privacy, such as the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which shifts the responsibility for privacy and security to the service providers.

In the future, the need of the hour is for a holistic and inclusive approach to develop an ecosystem of digital literacy awareness, education and training involving enhanced cooperation and mutual sectoral collaboration with students, teachers, and the larger community to address the challenges of the digital divide due to lack of access and digital illiteracy.

</excerpt>

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court decided not to intervene in the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) choice to forgo the NEET-Super Speciality Exam (NEET-SS) 2024 this year.

The bench, consisting of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, reviewed data provided by the NMC, which showed that approximately 40% of NEET-SS candidates are from the most recent graduating cohort. The court acknowledged that postponing the exam to next year would not unduly harm the petitioners, who had previously attempted the NEET-SS, but would instead benefit students from the 2021 post-graduate batch. These students are expected to complete their courses only by January 2025, and postponing the exam would provide them with the opportunity to participate.

The court found the NMC’s decision to be “fairly equitable” and not “arbitrary,” given the circumstances. However, it also accepted the petitioners’ request for the NMC to promptly establish a schedule for the NEET-SS 2024 exam. The bench instructed that this schedule be announced within 30 days, considering the number of students finishing their PG courses in January 2025, and that the exam be conducted within three months of January 2025.

The case was brought before the Supreme Court by thirteen doctors challenging the NMC’s decision to delay the NEET-SS 2024. The NMC justified the postponement due to delays in admissions for MD, MS, and DMB courses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to course completions being pushed to January 2025.

Advocate Rashmi Nandkumar, representing the petitioners, contended that only 40% of the Super Speciality course students are from the latest PG batch. She argued that cancelling the NEET-SS this year was arbitrary, as it would deprive the remaining 60% of students of their chance to appear.

In response, senior advocate Gaurav Sharma, representing the NMC, argued that holding the NEET-SS this year would disadvantage students from the 2021 PG batch by denying them the opportunity to sit for the exam.

While recognizing the inconvenience faced by the petitioners, the bench underscored the necessity of balancing this hardship with the broader concerns raised by the NMC.

</excerpt>

The Supreme Court will hear a petition tomorrow seeking to postpone the NEET-PG 2024 exam due to issues with the allocation of “highly inconvenient” exam centers and concerns about the normalization of marks. Advocate Anas Tanwir, representing the petitioners, presented the plea before Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, who assured that the matter would be listed for hearing.

The petitioners are requesting the rescheduling of the NEET-PG 2024 exam, which is set for August 11. They argue that many candidates have been assigned to cities that are difficult to reach, and they seek clarity on the normalization process for the four sets of question papers to prevent any arbitrariness.

The petitioners pointed out that the test city allocations were made on July 31, with specific centers to be announced on August 8. Although they understand that these measures aim to prevent malpractice, the short notice makes travel arrangements challenging for students. Over 200,000 students are expected to take the exam, which will be held in 185 cities, leading to issues with train ticket availability and increased airfares.

The petition also highlights that the exam will be conducted in two batches, causing concerns about the fairness of the normalization process since one batch might face a more difficult question paper than the other. The petitioners request that the normalization formula be disclosed before the exam to ensure transparency.

Anas Tanwir, an Advocate on Record, filed the petition, and various students, including Vishal Soren, have urged the court to hold the exam in a single batch for fairness. The petitioners are also calling for more equitable and transparent allocation of test centers to nearby locations.

</excerpt>

As the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) PG 2024 approaches, a social media post has generated significant concern among candidates and netizens. With just four days left before the examination, a post dated August 7 on X (formerly Twitter) by user Dr. Dhruv Chauhan has raised alarms over a potential question paper leak.

The post highlights claims from various Telegram pages reportedly offering to sell NEET PG question papers. Dr. Chauhan’s post stated, “Hundreds of Telegram pages claiming to sell NEET PG papers should be on the radar of cybercrime and intelligence agencies, as these might or might not have the papers which need investigation.” He included screenshots of conversations from group chats and individuals allegedly discussing prices to ‘book slots’ for leaked materials.

Hundreds of Telegram pages claiming to sale NEET PG papers , these frauds should be on Radar of Cyber crime and intelligence bureau because they might or might not have the papers which needs to be investigated.

One screenshot revealed a group named ‘NEET-PG LEAKED MATERIALS’ with over 20,600 subscribers, discussing prices for the leaked material. According to the messages, the cost for accessing the leaked material was ₹75,000, with a ₹35,000 advance required. The messages also claimed that the materials would be provided one day before the exam.

The post has sparked widespread concern and debate among netizens. Some expressed skepticism, questioning the authenticity of the claims and fearing that the whole scenario might be a scam to exploit candidates. Dr. Raj K. Bhagat argued, “It’s unlikely that the paper can be prepared just 2 hours before the exam. The claim that the exam materials are prepared just before the exam is baseless.” Others, like Dr. Yash Oza, warned that the alleged leak might be a fraud intended to deceive students.

Adding to the tension, the All FMGs Association (AFA) recently reported the potential leak of a confidential letter from the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), which oversees the NEET PG. This letter reportedly included sensitive details about the exam’s schedule, mode, and centers, raising further concerns about the integrity of the examination process.

As the examination date approaches, the lack of an official response from NBEMS has left many anxious. The situation underscores the urgent need for robust measures to ensure the security and fairness of the NEET PG 2024 exam. Will authorities take swift action to address these concerns before the exam day? Only time will tell.

</excerpt>

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court for refusing to cancel the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (UG) held on May 5, affirming that there was no systemic breach in the exam. In a post on X, Pradhan stated that the findings and verdict “outrightly reject the propaganda being peddled.” He emphasized that the Supreme Court’s observation of no systemic breach in the NEET-UG exam vindicates the government’s stance.

“The government stands committed to a ‘Tamper-free, Transparent & Zero-error examination system.’ To ensure this, we shall implement the recommendations of the high-level committee of experts as soon as they are submitted,” Pradhan added. He thanked the Supreme Court for delivering justice and protecting the interests of hardworking students, pledging to implement the Court’s judgment in letter and spirit.

However, Congress MP Karti P. Chidambaram disagreed with the Supreme Court’s decision, arguing that the integrity of the NEET test is compromised and that basing admissions on its results is unfair to students due to numerous anomalies. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also called for a reassessment of the examination system, citing several complaints and irregularities, including a Gujarat topper who failed her school exams but excelled in NEET and the misallocation of exam centers for Kerala students.

On July 23, the Supreme Court refused to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 examination held on May 5, citing the absence of evidence indicating a systemic breach. The bench, comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, stated that the data on record does not suggest a systemic leak of the NEET-UG question paper. While acknowledging isolated leaks in Hazaribagh and Patna, the Court noted that these incidents did not disrupt the overall sanctity of the exam.

The order came in response to multiple pleas seeking to recall NEET-UG 2024 results and conduct a fresh examination due to alleged paper leaks and malpractices. Aspirants had approached the Supreme Court, raising issues of question paper leakage, compensatory marks, and anomalies in the test. The NEET-UG 2024 was held across 4,750 centers on May 5, with around 24 lakh candidates appearing.

</excerpt>

In her response to the Rajya Sabha debate on the Union Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman defended the government’s Agniveer scheme, stating it is designed to keep the armed forces young and agile. She argued that similar practices are used in countries like the U.S. and UK, where soldiers serve shorter terms to maintain a fit and dynamic force. Sitharaman emphasised that the scheme, which recruits individuals aged 17-21, was introduced with commitment and should not be politicised.

On the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), Sitharaman claimed that it broadens opportunities rather than disadvantaging anyone. She highlighted that Tamil Nadu has seen a significant increase in medical seats and that NEET has improved access and affordability for medical education. She criticised opposition claims about NEET being detrimental, arguing that it has led to more equitable opportunities across the board.

Sitharaman also addressed criticisms of inflation management, citing the BJP-led NDA government’s record in maintaining lower average inflation rates compared to the Congress-led UPA government. She noted that the current government’s fiscal management has been praised by global observers and emphasised substantial increases in capital expenditure.

Furthermore, she defended the allocation of funds to various states, pointing out that past budgets under the UPA government also did not name all states. Sitharaman also highlighted improvements in Jammu and Kashmir’s fiscal situation and the success of reforms in the banking sector.

In her budget speech, Sitharaman announced projects for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, rebutting claims of state favouritism and stressing that tax revenues have grown significantly. She also noted a reduction in import duties on certain edible oils to support job creation and ensure supply stability.

</excerpt>

Chairman Media and Publicity Department All India Congress Committee Pawan Khera expressed a contrasting critique on the the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections as he said that although Congress has accepted the mandate but the prime minister Narendra Modi has not been able to accept the mandate.

He said, “We have won even after losing and the BJP have lost even after winning. The country’s political face (the one who can lead the country) has changed altogether, now the face has become Rahul Gandhi, this has to be accepted and If Modi accepts it then only can he spend couple of years or some months in the government.”
When asked that the acongress’ marketing has been good which has obstructed the BJP’s absolute win, yet the mandate has been good enough for the ruling party to run the country, Khera responded, “When the BJP had 2 seats in 1980’s in the parliament, did they directly achieve the 200 seats in the subsequent elections? No they slowly went on to win more and more seats in the following elections, now you think, we can go from 50 to 400, that can only happen in Modi’s imaginations. We have worked hard, we have started to work harder, we have walked thousands of miles, let us not put Modi ji there but can Amit Shah do it, can he walk even a few miles?”

Asked why the Prime Minister Modi is being obstructed in the parliament, Khera responded by saying that since 10 years he has been speaking and all of us have been listening, but now there is a kind of monotony in his speeches, he is saying all the same again and again. Khera added, “He is saying Nehru did this, Nehru did not do this. Even if you ask BJP’s own people they are also tired of hearing these speeches, even Sangh parivar is tired of listening to these things. And by doing this we are helping Sangh parivar. We are just trying to tell them to answer on Agniveer, on NEET, on Hathras, we tell them to put down their work in front of the people.

</excerpt>

Ex -Union Minister P Chidambaram in a press conference said that the Economy, employment and Education sector were facing biggest challenge in the country. Moreover stating that in the Budget, on some important matters, there was no response at all.

Chidambaram said, “Unemployment is the biggest challenge facing the country. For a few dozen vacancies or a few thousand posts, millions of candidates apply and write an examination or appear for an Interview. According to CMIE, the all India unemployment rate is 9.2 per cent. The response of the government is too little and will have only little impact on the grave unemployment situation. The claim that the schemes announced by the FM will benefit 290 lakh persons is highly exaggerated.”

He added that the Inflation is the other major challenge. Mentioning the data he said, “WPI inflation is 3.4 per cent, CPI inflation is 5.1 per cent, and food inflation is 9.4 per cent.”

The Economic Survey (ES), Chidambaram said, has stated that the deflator for manufacturing has been assumed as 1.7 per cent. The deflator(s) assumed by the government have been severely criticized by several knowledgeable economists. Unless the puzzle of the ‘deflator’ is resolved, it is not possible to unquestionably accept the claimed GDP growth rate of 8.2 per cent in 2023-24. Besides, the GDP growth rate is no answer to the huge challenge of inflation.

Chidambaram stated, “The Economic Survey dismissed the issue of inflation in a few short sentences. The FM dismissed it in ten words in para 3 of her speech. We deplore the casual attitude of the government. And nothing in the Budget Speech gives us the confidence that the government will seriously tackle the issue of inflation.”

Chidambaram also talked about the depleting status of Education in the country stating that Education is widespread but of poor quality. He said, “Nearly one-half of the children are unable to read or write a simple text in any language and are numerically challenged. They are not fit for any skilled job. The central government must drive — and help — the states address these fundamental problems.”

He added, “The other issue concerning education is NEET and the scandal-ridden National Testing Agency. Several states have demanded that NEET should be scrapped and the states should be free to adopt their own methods of selecting candidates to various courses in medical education. No response. I did not hear the finance minister refer to school education. Yet, the government is stubbornly clinging to NEET which, you will recall, is an examination at the end of school education. Interestingly, against BE of Rs 1,16,417 crore on Education, the government spent only Rs 1,08,878.”

</excerpt>

Newly appointed Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday trained his guns at the BJP-led NDA government at the centre over the issue of NEET and paper peaks saying that there is a “serious issue” with the examination system in the country.

During a heated debate with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Congress leader cornered the government over the issue of NEET.

He said, “It’s obvious to the whole country that there is a very serious problem with our examination system. This is not just the question of the NEET but major examinations.”

Slamming Pradhan, Rahul Gandhi, who is also a Lok Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli said, “Now, the minister has blamed everybody except himself. I don’t think he understands the fundamentals of what’s going on here.”

He said that the issue is that there are millions of students in this country who are extremely concerned about what is going on and who are convinced that the “Indian examination system is a fraud”.

“Millions of people believe that if you are rich, you can buy the Indian examination system, and this is the same feeling we as the Opposition have. This is why we are asking some very simple questions to the Minister,” he said.

“As this is a systemic issue, what exactly are you doing to fix the issue at a systemic level?” the LoP said.

The Opposition staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour after Pradhan denied the charges saying there was “no evidence” of paper leak in the last seven years.

Meanwhile, Speaker Om Birla suggested members should discuss developing a better examination system in the country.

The hearing on the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-UG paper leak case is underway in the Supreme Court, with Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud leading the bench.

“It is unfortunate that the BJP-led NDA government is not taking proper action or even listening to the voices of children. Today, the Opposition is raising its voice for the future concerns of children’s lives,” Maran said while speaking to ANI in the Parliament complex on Monday.

The DMK leader raised concerns about the accessibility of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) question papers overseas, asking, “Why is it that NEET, which is already controversial, allows the question paper to be accessed abroad? Students living abroad, like in Japan, receive the question paper 24 hours ahead?”

Maran highlighted the recent suicides of NEET aspirants and questioned the government’s indifference towards the students who have died in Kota, even if not in Tamil Nadu.

“Moreover, I would like to ask about the number of suicides that have taken place – forget Tamil Nadu. In Tamil Nadu, more than 20 people have committed suicide. That is so painful for us. You want to forget Tamil Nadu, but what about Kota in Rajasthan, where the Honourable Speaker comes from? You are not worried about that,” the DMK MP said.

Maran accused the government of concealing the NEET paper leak issue and criticized the ruling party, questioning why children should endure hardship because of their “arrogance.”

“You defend by saying that everything is okay. Everything is not okay. You want to cover it up with an investigation. Why should the children suffer because of your arrogance and inefficiency?” the DMK leader said.

Maran also proposed that the central government should permit states to choose not to use NEET for medical entrance examinations.

“Leave it to the states. Whichever state wants it, let them do it. Whichever does not want NEET, let them opt-out,” he said.

The government has come under fire for the “paper leak” issue during the NEET-UG examination. Congress MP Manickam Tagore demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET ‘paper leak’ and criticized the government for being unwilling to discuss the matter.

“We also want our people’s issues to be raised in Parliament. He (PM Modi) wants to divert from the real issues. We all want the Parliament to function, but the ruling party is not ready to have a discussion. NEET is an important issue on which we wanted to have a discussion. Till now, they are not ready to have a discussion. The education minister is a failed education minister. If he has any integrity or morality, he should have resigned,” Tagore said.

A tragic incident has shaken Rajasthan’s coaching hub of Kota, where a 16-year-old student from Bihar’s Nalanda, preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (NEET) for engineering courses, was found dead in his paying guest accommodation. According to local police officer Mahendra Maroo, the student was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan after friends, concerned by his lack of response, alerted authorities and his younger brother, also preparing for NEET in Kota but residing separately.

The deceased had been studying at a Kota coaching center for about a year. Police broke open his door when attempts to contact him went unanswered. No suicide note was found, and the body was sent for autopsy while parents were notified. Police intend to inquire about any recent behavioral changes from family members.

This incident adds to a concerning trend in Kota, known as India’s test-preparation capital with a lucrative ₹10,000 crore industry annually. The city draws students from across the country post-Class X for intensive coaching and school education, primarily for certification.

Suicides among students in Kota have been a recurring issue, with 12 reported this year alone, including three in the past month. Last year, 27 students took their lives, and in previous years, numbers ranged similarly high. The COVID-19 pandemic-related closures in 2020 and 2021 saw no suicides as coaching moved online or ceased.

In response to the alarming suicide rates, authorities mandated safety measures such as spring-loaded fans in hostels and increased mental health support for students. Last September, the Rajasthan government introduced additional initiatives aimed at preventing student suicides amidst the pressure-cooker environment of exam preparation.

This tragedy underscores ongoing concerns about the mental well-being of students in high-pressure academic settings and raises calls for sustained efforts to support their emotional health alongside academic pursuits.

Modi’s speech will be in response to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. </excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the Lok Sabha on Today, following Rahul Gandhi’s powerful maiden speech as the Leader of Opposition. Modi’s speech will be in response to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. Before speaking in Parliament, Modi will address the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) parliamentary party meeting at 9:30 a.m., marking his first address to ruling bloc MPs since securing his third term in office.

This development is significant as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has, for the first time since 2014, lost its majority in the Lok Sabha. In the recent polls, the BJP secured 240 seats, while its allies won 53, allowing the NDA to comfortably exceed the halfway mark in the 543-member House.

The Motion of Thanks debate, initially slated for Friday, was delayed due to opposition MPs protesting irregularities in the NEET examination, demanding discussions on the issue.

Modi’s reply will follow a day after Rahul Gandhi’s scathing critique of the BJP. In his speech, Gandhi attacked the BJP over its election remarks, NEET paper leak allegations, and the Agnipath scheme. He criticized the Agnipath scheme, highlighting the treatment of Agniveers, saying, “One Agniveer lost his life in a landmine blast but he is not called a ‘martyr’… ‘Agniveer’ is a use and throw labourer.”

Gandhi also presented the Hindu symbol ‘Abhayamudra’ as a symbol of the Congress party, emphasizing non-violence and safety. “Abhayamudra is the symbol of the Congress… The Abhayamudra is the gesture of fearlessness, reassurance, and safety, which dispels fear and accords divine protection and bliss in Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism, and other Indian religions… All our great men have spoken about non-violence and finishing fear… But, those who call themselves Hindu only talk about violence, hatred, untruth… Aap Hindu ho hi nahi,” Gandhi stated.

Gandhi’s remarks sparked a backlash from NDA leaders, who accused him of associating violence with Hinduism and demanded a public apology.

As the political landscape shifts with the BJP’s reliance on allies, Modi’s upcoming address will be closely watched for its response to Gandhi’s criticisms and its implications for the government’s future actions.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday demanded for a discussion on NEET exam results rigging in Parliament.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha on Monday while speaking in the House demanded for a discussion on NEET.

He pointed out that the opposition wants a discussion on NEET for a day in the House and it is an important issue.

The Congress leader said, “About 70 paper leaks took place in last seven years across the country.

Rahul Gandhi said, “A message is disseminated to the country, from Parliament. We want to give a message to students that NEET issue is important for the Parliament. So, to send this message we want the Parliament to discuss this for a day.”

Even Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, who was replying to Motion of Thanks to President’s address raised the issue of NEET and demanded for a Supreme Court monitored probe.

“Not just NEET or the National Testing Agency, the entire education system must be reviewed under Supreme Court,” Kharge said.

He then said that the “BJP leaders’ names were mentioned in paper leaks, first, the Education Minister denied any leak and gave a clean chit to the NTA. When the opposition raised this issue, FIRs were filed and only after that did the Education Minister accept the paper leak”.

However, Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that every institution must do its own job first.

Kharge taking a pot shot at the RSS said, “The organisation has taken over posts of vice-chancellors and professors at universities as well as at NCERT and other educational organisations.”

Chairman Dhankhar then interrupted and said that the comment will be expunged. “Is it a crime to be a member of any organisation?” Dhankhar asked Kharge.

Following the remarks of Kharge, several members of the ruling party registered their protest. “RSS is an organisation that works for the country and is internationally renowned,” Dhankhar said.

“The organisation’s ideology is dangerous for the country,” Kharge remarked again.
He also alleged that the ideology of the sangh instigated Nathuram Godse to assassinate Mahatma Gandhi.

To this Leader of House JP Nadda responded and said that Kharge’s comments are “irresponsible” and should be expunged. Dhankhar agreed to Nadda’s remarks.

Nadda also intervened earlier and accused the LoP of “casting serious aspersions” on the Chairperson.

“If the LoP is saying that the Chair should support the truth for the next 3.5 years, it automatically means he is making aspersions that he hasn’t done so in the last 1.5 years,” Nadda said. Kharge then responded to President’s joint address and said the President’s address was only filled with praise for the government, ignoring the foundational issues such as the lack of provision for the weakest sections of the society.

He said, “The President is the most important part of the Parliament, we respect the President. This year the President’s first address was in January and second in June. The first address was for elections and the second was a copy of it. There was nothing for Dalits, minority sections and the backward classes in her address. There was neither vision nor direction in the President’s address. Like the last time, it was just about full of words of appreciation for the government.” Kharge also demanded that ‘Agniveer’ scheme should be scrapped

Kharge said, “The morale of the youth has been shattered by bringing an unplanned and ‘tughlaqi’ scheme like Agniveer…I demand that Agniveer scheme should be scrapped.”

Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi Kharge said, “Opposition parties talk about the common man while PM Modi does only his ‘Mann Ki Baat’. PM Modi is an expert only in giving slogans. Manipur has been burning for the last year but the PM did not visit the state.”

Amidst the ongoing Parliament session, Congress on Friday accused the ruling BJP-led NDA government of silencing opposition leaders by allegedly turning off their microphones. This allegation was made as Rae Bareli MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi accused Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla of trying to suppress his voice as he opened discussions on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) issue. Congress also alleged that the microphone of its chief, Mallikarjun Kharge, was turned off in the Rajya Sabha when he raised concerns about students suffering from exam paper leaks in the country.

He criticized the BJP-led central government over the NEET-UG exam controversy, questioning why no re-examination has been scheduled after the exams were canceled.

Yadav began his oath with “Bihar zindabad” and ended with slogans demanding a NEET-UG re-examination and special category status for Bihar. When BJP’s Kiren Rijiju objected to his slogans, Yadav, a six-time MP from Purnia, retorted that he fights alone and doesn’t need lessons from those who won with others’ mercy.

</excerpt>

The Bihar government has communicated to the Centre that a probe by its Economic Offences Unit (EOU) “clearly suggests a paper leak” in the NEET-UG exam. This assertion is based on the EOU’s findings that 68 questions from the purported photocopy of the question paper, retrieved from burnt paper remains, match the original NEET-UG paper provided by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This information has been confirmed by The Indian Express.

The EOU’s report, which was received by the Education Ministry on Saturday, also indicates that the unique exam centre code found on the scraps of the burnt paper corresponds to Oasis School, a CBSE-affiliated private school in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. This school was designated as an exam centre by the NTA. The EOU used forensic analysis to confirm the match between the burnt scraps and the original question paper.

The Education Ministry, acting on the EOU’s report, decided to hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The EOU has already arrested five more suspects on Sunday, bringing the total number of arrests in connection with the paper leak to 18. Reinforcing the claim of a paper leak, the EOU noted that the 68 questions not only matched the original questions but also had identical serial numbers.

The burnt papers were initially found on the day of the exam, May 5, when the suspected candidates were arrested. However, a delay occurred in matching them with the NEET-UG paper due to the NTA’s initial reluctance to share the question paper with the state government. This hurdle was overcome a week ago when the NTA began cooperating with Bihar’s EOU.

The current focus of the Bihar EOU is to determine the time and location of the paper leak. The NTA has recently provided the chain of custody for the question paper, aiding the EOU in tracing the paper’s journey from the NTA to the Oasis School to identify where the leak occurred. A significant clue emerged when the EOU seized items from Oasis School, discovering that one tamper-proof envelope containing the question papers had been cut open improperly.

Ehsanhul Haque, the principal of Oasis School, suggested that the paper might have been leaked before the packets arrived at the school. He clarified that CCTV footage showed the packets were received on the morning of May 5 by the Centre Superintendent and the NTA Observer, and the packets were opened in front of the students as per protocol. Haque stated that despite the school’s strict procedures, the EOU found evidence suggesting sophisticated tampering with the sealed packets.

The EOU has sent the digital devices and phones of the arrested individuals to a forensics laboratory to retrieve further clues, as the accused had recently formatted their devices. The arrested candidates testified that they had memorized answers from the leaked question paper a day before the exam while staying at a location in Rajbanshi Nagar. Their scores ranged from 185 to 581 out of 720. The EOU suspects that another 30 candidates may have benefited from the leak, based on the statements of the accused.

The investigation gained momentum after the Jharkhand Police alerted the Bihar Police about a potential paper leak on May 4. On the exam day, May 5, the Patna police, acting on specific leads, raided a house in Rajbanshi Nagar and found the burnt question paper. Subsequent arrests included a key suspect, Yadavendu, a junior engineer, and others involved in the conspiracy.

The Bihar government transferred the investigation to the EOU on May 11, which then led to the identification and arrest of additional suspects. The CBI will now take over the investigation to further unravel the details of the NEET-UG paper leak.

The Ministry of Education has tasked the CBI with conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged irregularities, cheating, impersonation, and other malpractices reported during the NEET (UG) Examination 2024.

The government announced, “For transparency on the conduct of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India, after a review, has decided to entrust the matter to the CBI for comprehensive investigation.”

The Central Government has enacted the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. This law aims to prevent unfair practices in public examinations and address related issues.

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining the sanctity of examinations and protecting the interests of students. It warned that strict action would be taken against any individuals or organizations found guilty of malpractices.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the NEET-UG exams, is facing severe criticism over the alleged irregularities. The controversy has sparked protests across the country, with demonstrators and political parties calling for the disbandment of the NTA. Concerns were heightened when an unprecedented 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 marks.

On June 13, the NTA informed the Supreme Court that the scorecards of 1,563 candidates who received “grace marks” would be canceled. These candidates were given the opportunity to retake the examination on June 23, with results expected before June 30.

The Ministry of Education has constituted a high-level committee of experts to recommend reforms in the examination process, enhance data security protocols, and improve the functioning of the NTA.

The seven-member committee, led by former ISRO chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, will submit its report to the ministry within the next two months. The ministry stated, “In order to ensure transparent, smooth, and fair conduct of examinations through the NTA, the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education constituted a High-Level Committee of Experts.”

In response to the criticism, the Centre removed Subodh Singh, Director General of the NTA, from his position on Saturday. Pradeep Singh Kharola, currently Chairman and Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), has been given additional responsibility as the head of the NTA until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Bihar Police detained six more individuals from Jharkhand’s Deoghar district on Friday in connection with the alleged leak of the NEET paper. Previously, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) had apprehended 13 individuals, including the main suspect, Sikandar Yadavendu. The EOU is also considering conducting narco analysis and brain mapping tests on the accused.

This change in leadership comes as the government faces allegations of paper leaks in the NEET-UG exams, prompting the cancellation of the UGC-NET and the postponement of the CSIR-UGC NET.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had earlier indicated that the top leadership of the NTA was under scrutiny due to these alleged irregularities. Although he denied any paper leaks in the CSIR-UGC NET, the postponement of the exam has added to the growing concerns about the integrity of the examination process.

The National Testing Agency, established in November 2017 under the Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860, is an autonomous body responsible for conducting various entrance examinations for admissions to higher educational institutions. These exams include NEET, JEE, CTET, GATE, GPAT, GMAT, CAT, UGC-NET, and CSIR-UGC NET. The NTA is chaired by Pradeep Kumar Joshi, a former chairman of the UPSC.

Pradeep Singh Kharola, a 1985 batch IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre, has a distinguished career, including his tenure as the head of Air India starting in November 2017, during which the government attempted but failed to privatize the airline. He later became the civil aviation secretary in 2019 and has been serving as the chairman of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) since 2022. Kharola has now been given additional charge of the NTA until a regular appointment is made.

</excerpt>

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has recently found itself in the spotlight after the UGC-NET was cancelled due to alleged irregularities, and the NEET faced controversy. The UGC-NET is crucial for those aiming to teach in higher education, while NEET is essential for medical aspirants. Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of the unfolding situation:

Centre Selection Process: The NTA begins by identifying test centres from a pre-existing list, which includes government schools previously used by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the NTA itself. The performance history of these schools as exam centres is carefully reviewed.

Institutional Options: The NTA can also select institutions and colleges recognized by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Permission and Background Checks: Once a final list of potential centres is decided, the NTA seeks permission from the selected schools. New centres undergo a thorough background check.

Third-Party Involvement: The NTA enlists a third-party organization to conduct background checks on the exam centres and their management.

Infrastructure Assessment: This third-party evaluates the infrastructure, seating capacity, and overall condition to ensure the school can securely host exams.

Conflict of Interest: The third-party also ensures there is no conflict of interest between the exam centre management and other stakeholders.

Exclusion of Coaching Institutes: Exam centres operated by coaching institutes are strictly prohibited. The infrastructure assessment includes ensuring the centre is accessible and friendly to differently-abled individuals.

Blacklist Criteria: Any exam centre with a tainted record is blacklisted by the NTA. A virtual tour of the facility is conducted to evaluate security measures, including personnel at key entry and exit points.

NTA’s Establishment and Mandate: Established in 2017, the NTA operates as an autonomous, self-sustaining organization tasked with conducting 15 highly competitive entrance exams for admissions in higher educational institutions. It aims to conduct these exams efficiently and transparently, adhering to global standards, and also provides training for school board personnel.

Current Controversies: Despite its structured approach, the NTA is currently grappling with issues that have raised questions about its processes and the integrity of its exams.

The NTA’s systematic approach to selecting and verifying exam centres is designed to uphold the integrity and security of its exams. However, the recent controversies surrounding the UGC-NET and NEET highlight the challenges and scrutiny the agency faces in maintaining these standards.

This retest exclusively applies to individuals who were granted grace marks by the NTA due to time loss during the exam. Admittance to the June 23 examination can be obtained through the official NTA website – neet.ntaonline.in.

In accordance with the NTA’s directive, candidates benefiting from grace marks in NEET UG must either participate in the re-examination or acknowledge their original marks, excluding the grace score. Notifications regarding this were dispatched to candidates via their registered email addresses by the NTA.

This year, a total of 1563 candidates were awarded grace marks to offset the time lost during the NEET exam held on May 5. The NEET UG 2024 results were announced on June 4, grabbing headlines with the declaration of 67 students achieving AIR 1. Additionally, this year saw participation from 17 transgender candidates in NEET UG. The exam saw 13,31,321 female candidates and 9,96,393 male candidates in total.

On Tuesday, the Allahabad High Court dismissed a petition by a NEET-UG aspirant who alleged that the National Testing Agency (NTA) failed to declare her result and that her OMR answer sheet was torn. The court determined that the petitioner, Ayushi Patel from Lucknow, had submitted forged documents.

“NTA can take legal action in the matter,” stated Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan in his order. The NTA informed the court that it had already decided to pursue legal action against Patel.

The court’s decision came after the NTA, following the court’s directive, presented the student’s original OMR answer sheet, which was found to be intact.

BJP Criticizes Priyanka for Backing Aspirant’s Claim Ayushi’s dramatic allegation intensified calls for the cancellation of the NEET-UG exam and was supported by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, who used the claim to criticize the Modi government. With the High Court ruling Ayushi’s claim to be false, the BJP criticized Priyanka and demanded an apology. “You remember this tweet by Priyanka Vadra, here is how Congress peddles fakery,” said party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, labeling Congress as “jhooth ki dukaan.”

In her petition filed earlier this month, Ayushi claimed that the NTA had communicated that her result would not be declared because her OMR sheet was torn. She demanded manual evaluation of her OMR sheet, a halt to admissions counseling while her petition was pending, and an inquiry into the NTA. Ayushi also claimed she should have scored 715 marks out of 720, while her actual score was 335.

Presenting the OMR sheet, scorecard, and attendance sheet, the NTA stated that the petitioner’s application number was 240411340741, which was signed by Ayushi herself. However, she had been sending emails using the application number 240411840741, altering one digit.

After examining the documents, the court concluded that Ayushi’s petition was based on forged documents. It called the situation “regrettable” and stated that the NTA was free to pursue legal action.

Before approaching the High Court, Ayushi had released a video with her claims, which gained political attention after Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi shared it and criticized the NTA. However, on June 12, the NTA clarified that Ayushi’s paper was intact and accused her of forgery, noting her actual score was lower than claimed.

“No torn OMR answer sheet was sent from any official NTA email, and the actual OMR is available and not torn. Moreover, all results are available online,” an official stated.

</excerpt>

The Ministry of Education’s decision to cancel the UGC-NET exam has sparked widespread criticism and accusations from opposition leaders. The cancellation, announced amidst allegations of compromised integrity, has drawn sharp reactions from prominent figures including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Kharge lambasted the government, labeling it as a “paper leak government” following the cancellation, and questioned when Prime Minister Narendra Modi would address concerns over the NEET exam. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra echoed similar sentiments, demanding accountability and accusing the BJP-led government of jeopardizing the future of youth through its alleged negligence.

The controversy intensified with the Ministry ordering a CBI investigation into the matter, amid growing calls for stringent action against those responsible. Opposition leaders, including Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, condemned the recurring failures in conducting fair examinations, stressing the urgent need for accountability from the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Meanwhile, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has called for immediate measures against the NTA, highlighting systemic flaws in examination processes and advocating for student protection.

The cancellation of the UGC-NET exam has not only triggered a political storm but also raised serious concerns about the credibility and security of national-level examinations under the current administration. As the controversy unfolds, demands for transparency and rectification measures are likely to intensify in the days ahead.
