</excerpt>

New Delhi is gearing up to give a warm reception to South Asian leaders gathering for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on Sunday. Modi is set to embark on his third term, with numerous heads of state, including Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, slated to attend.

Relations between India and the Maldives have soured since Muizzu took office in November last year. Throughout his election campaign, he frequently voiced criticisms against India and called for the complete withdrawal of Indian military personnel.

Since then, all Indian armed forces have exited the Maldives, with civilian personnel now taking their place.

But India extended an olive branch inviting him to the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi. President Muizzu expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for the invitation, adding that he would be honoured to attend this historic event.

“He also stated that he looks forward to working with the Prime Minister to further strengthen the close relations with India, noting that Maldives-India relations are heading in the positive direction, as would be demonstrated by this visit,” the official release said.

This visit will mark the pro-China president’s inaugural official trip to India since assuming office on November 17 last year. In contrast to his predecessors, who typically made New Delhi their first destination after taking office, Muizzu’s initial state visits were to Turkey and China in January.

Ahead of his arrival in Delhi, a large banner featuring both PM Modi and Muizzu has been erected outside the Foreign Ministry. Posters showcasing PM Modi alongside other Asian leaders attending the event have also been displayed throughout Delhi.

The swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to host leaders from neighbouring nations, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius, and Seychelles, along with the Maldives, in line with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

</excerpt>

As the NDA government led by Narendra Modi, is set to form the government, here are the available details regarding the swearing-in ceremony.

Date & Time

The ceremonial formation of the new government will start with swearing-in-ceremony, which will start on Sunday, June 9 at 7:15 PM.

Where To Watch

The ceremony will be aired live by News channels. In addition, it will also be live streamed on YouTube and other social media sites.

Who Are the Guests

Around 8,000 dignitaries including foreign leaders, are expected to attend the ceremony.

However, NDA leader Narendra Modi has specially invited leaders of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and Mauritius through phone call.

These guests list reflect India’s principle of ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ and ‘SAGAR’ vision.

Security Measures In Force

Meanwhile, the multi-layered security will be implemented at Rashtrapati Bhawan, which will include deployment of five companies of paramilitary personnel, NSG commandos, drones, and snipers.

In addition, no-fly zone has been declared over national capital Delhi. Thus, banning the use of different aerial platforms to deter potential threats from criminal or terrorist activities during the event.

This restriction will be enforced from June 9 to June 10, and violators will be subjected to penalties as per Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.

Moreover, due to ceremony, Rashtrapati Bhavan will be closed for visitors from June 5 to June 9.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to embark on his inaugural international trip to Italy shortly after his swearing-in ceremony on June 9. Following his victory in the Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi has accepted an invitation from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to attend the G7 Summit, scheduled from June 13 to 15 in Borgo Egnazia, Apulia.

In a conversation with Italian PM Meloni on Thursday, Modi expressed gratitude for the invitation to the G7 Summit Outreach Sessions in Italy’s Puglia, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs.

Italy’s G7 Presidency

This year, Italy holds the rotating presidency of the G7. The summit will address crucial topics such as the global economic landscape, international trade, climate change, and the impacts of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and conflicts between Israel and Hamas.

The G7 nations comprise Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US, with the EU participating as a guest. During his visit, PM Modi is expected to meet with the US President and other G7 leaders.

Hectic Schedule Ahead

Following the swearing-in ceremony, India will embark on a busy diplomatic schedule. Ahead of the G7 Summit, the External Affairs Minister will attend the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in Russia on June 11, in preparation for the BRICS summit in October. Later in June, PM Modi is expected to host Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, followed by participation in the SCO summit in Kazakhstan in July, where he may meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping post-elections.

Ukraine’s Invitation to Peace Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his election victory, urged India to participate in the upcoming peace summit. Zelenskyy emphasized India’s crucial role in global affairs and the importance of collective efforts for lasting peace.

PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to advocating for global peace but did not specify whether he would attend the Ukraine peace summit. In March, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba visited New Delhi and met with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, reiterating the request for India’s participation in the peace summit. However, Jaishankar did not publicly comment on Kuleba’s appeal, maintaining an ambiguous stance on India’s position.

India’s diplomatic approach reflects its careful balancing act amid the Ukraine conflict, managing relationships with both Western nations and Russia. The decision on India’s participation in the peace summit continues to be a point of interest and speculation in international diplomatic circles.

</excerpt>

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu is said to have accepted an invitation to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming swearing-in ceremony in New Delhi on Sunday, according to a report from local media. The news portal Edition.mv cited its Dhivehi sister publication, Mihaaru News, confirming his attendance, along with several other senior government officials. However, there has been no official confirmation yet from the Maldives President’s Office regarding Muizzu’s first official visit to India.

Prime Minister Modi is set for a third consecutive term as Prime Minister of India, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerging victorious in the parliamentary elections. Wishes from global leaders poured in swiftly following PM Modi’s win.

In an earlier statement on Wednesday, President Muizzu congratulated PM Modi and expressed his willingness to collaborate to enhance bilateral ties. He stated, “Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP and BJP-led NDA, on the success in the 2024 Indian General Election, for the third consecutive term. I look forward to working together to advance our shared interests in pursuit of shared prosperity and stability for our two countries.”

In response to the post, Prime Minister Modi thanked Maldives President and expressed anticipation for closer cooperation to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations. “Thank you President @MMuizzu. Maldives is our valued partner and neighbour in the Indian Ocean Region. I too look forward to closer cooperation for further strengthening our bilateral ties,” PM Modi stated.

This would mark President Muizzu’s inaugural official visit to India since assuming office on November 17 last year. Notably, Muizzu, known for his pro-China stance, diverged from his predecessors’ protocol by choosing to visit Turkey first and subsequently China for his first state visit in January.

Shortly after he was sworn in, President Muizzu stirred bilateral tensions by demanding the removal of approximately 88 Indian military personnel from the Maldives. These personnel were repatriated from three aviation platforms and replaced by Indian civilians by the May 10 deadline set by President Muizzu.

The counting of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was held on Tuesday. According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats, and with its allies has 292 seats in the Parliament. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong growth winning 99 seats.

Other leaders also congratulated PM Modi and the BJP-led NDA government on their third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha polls.

The swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to host leaders from neighbouring countries, such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, and Mauritius, in addition to the Maldives, aligning with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

</excerpt>

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in for a third consecutive term, the newly elected MPs of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are set to meet today to finalize the list of cabinet ministers.

PM Modi and his new cabinet members will take their oaths tomorrow evening at a grand ceremony. Modi will become the first three-term Prime Minister since Congress stalwart Jawaharlal Nehru.

The BJP secured 240 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, falling 32 seats short of the majority mark. The four allies crucial for the BJP to reach the majority are N Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP, which won 16 seats, Nitish Kumar’s JDU (12), Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena (7), and Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas (5).

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and JDU’s Nitish Kumar publicly accepted the proposal to elect Mr. Modi as the alliance’s prime ministerial candidate yesterday. They have also provided written support to PM Modi amid speculations that opposition leaders could approach them to stake a claim.

Negotiations are now focused on the BJP and its key allies – TDP and JD(U) – both of which are vying for significant positions in the central government. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction and Chirag Paswan’s LJP are also seeking key portfolios in the new cabinet led by Prime Minister Modi.

The INDIA bloc, on the other hand, mounted a strong challenge to the BJP in a national election for the first time since the ‘Modi wave’ of 2014. The opposition alliance finished with 232 seats, 40 short of the 272-majority mark. The Congress, which led the INDIA opposition bloc, secured 99 wins from the 328 seats it contested.

The TDP won 16 MP seats in Andhra Pradesh, while the NDA alliance of TDP, BJP, and Janasena collectively secured 21 out of 25 seats.

The TDP, which has emerged as a significant player in the NDA government formation with 16 MPs, is expected to join the Union cabinet, according to a party spokesperson.

The TDP will also seek special status for revenue-starved Andhra Pradesh, which lost Hyderabad to Telangana during the state’s bifurcation in 2014.

This is not the first time the TDP has been part of an NDA government at the center. Late TDP leader GMC Balayogi served as Speaker of the Lok Sabha when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was Prime Minister, although he died in a helicopter crash in Andhra Pradesh in 2002.

According to Shiv Sena sources, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde prefers that other senior MPs, rather than his son and three-term MP Shrikant Shinde, be considered for ministerial roles.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who will meet his party’s 12 parliamentarians in Delhi on Friday morning, is likely to demand four ministerial positions and special status for Bihar, where the NDA won 30 out of the 40 Lok Sabha seats available.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, senior JD(U) leader and Bihar minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary stated, “The JD(U) is part of the NDA and will remain with it. But there are certain demands related to the financial condition and economy of Bihar that must be fulfilled by the Centre. Our demand for special category status for Bihar is fully justified and needs to be fulfilled. We stick to our demand for SCS for Bihar.”

Preparing for his third consecutive term as head of a coalition government, Modi chaired a meeting on June 5 with members of the ruling alliance, who unanimously elected him as their leader.

Additionally, there’s a chance that the ceremony might be held at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Sunday morning if several dignitaries need to depart by Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, the swearing-in ceremony of Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, initially slated for June 9, is likely to be postponed to June 12. This shift is due to Naidu’s obligation to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony first. TDP spokesperson K Pattabhi Ram explained that Naidu prefers to avoid rushing back to Amaravati after attending Modi’s event in New Delhi. Furthermore, Naidu has extended invitations to several BJP leaders for the ceremony in the state capital.

Modi is set to make history by assuming office for a third consecutive term after his Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 293 seats in the recent elections. He becomes only the second leader to achieve this feat after founding Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

</excerpt>

The stock market kicked off positively on Thursday, propelled by the NDA’s announcement of PM Narendra Modi’s third term, set to begin with his oath-taking ceremony on Saturday. The Sensex surged by 378.59 points, starting at 74,804.68, while the Nifty climbed by 105.65 points, commencing the day at 22,726.00. Notable gainers among the Nifty companies included NTPC, SBI, ONGC, Coal India, and Power Grid, whereas Britannia, Hindustan Unilever, Cipla, Hindalco, and Nestle India were among the top losers.

Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities, analyzed the market’s technical performance, observing an initial sell-off followed by a robust rebound. He remarked, “After an early sell-off, Nifty and Sensex found support near 21,700/21,800 levels and bounced back strongly, signaling positivity. The market rallied 880/2600 points from its lowest point of the day, reclaiming the 22,500/74,000 levels or the 50-day SMA (Simple Moving Average), which is also encouraging.”

Chouhan elaborated that the market is currently in an extended pullback phase after Tuesday’s steep decline, suggesting a potential extension up to levels between 22,800 and 22,950. He advised reducing long positions within this range, with a possibility of short covering if the Nifty remains above 23,000. Support levels at 22,400 and 22,300 were highlighted, with a close below 22,300 potentially extending consolidation to 22,000 or 21,800.

Regarding the Bank-Nifty index, Chouhan noted its extended pullback phase, possibly pushing it to levels between 49,500 and 49,800. He identified support at 48,500, suggesting that a close below this level might lead to a retreat to 48,000. Overall, the market’s strong opening reflects investor confidence following the BJP’s electoral victory, with technical indicators indicating potential for further gains and highlighting crucial support and resistance levels for traders to monitor.

</excerpt>

Manipur Chief Minister and BJP leader N Biren Singh expressed confidence in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) following the victory in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Singh emphasized the commitment of allies within the NDA, stating, “NDA received the majority. BJP won 240 seats, it is the single largest party. By the Constitution, the single largest party has to be invited (to form the government). There is no doubt. Allies are committed.”

The sentiments echoed by Singh were reinforced by Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, who highlighted Shiv Sena’s steadfast support for PM Modi’s leadership, asserting that Narendra Modi will assume office as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term.

Shinde underscored the backing for Modi within the alliance, stating, “Everyone has supported Modi ji, and more than the majority are with the NDA.”

The positive outlook on the NDA’s future was further reiterated by TDP MP Ram Mohan Naidu, who emphasized the enthusiasm among NDA leaders following their recent meeting.

Naidu confirmed the formation of a robust government under Narendra Modi’s leadership, heralding a promising trajectory for the nation in the next five years.

“I was not there in the meeting, but our leader Chandrababu Naidu was in the meeting. It was important to give this message to the people of the country that a strong govt is going to be formed. All the NDA leaders were happy. On 7th June, there will be a meeting of NDA MPs and then on 9th June, PM Modi will take oath as the Prime Minister. The next five years are going to be great for our country,” Naidu said.

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president and Assam Minister Atul Bora also reaffirmed the unity and satisfaction among NDA partners, emphasizing the mandate received from the people for the third consecutive term.

“We are in NDA and we came to attend the NDA meeting. The major parties like TDP, JD(U) and others joined the meeting. All the NDA partners are happy. The people of the country have cast their votes for NDA for the third consecutive time. PM Modi was leading from the front,” Bora said.

Narendra Modi along with top brass of the Bharatiya Janata Party met leaders from the National Democratic Alliance on Wednesday in the first meeting after the alliance secured a majority in the Lok Sabha elections.

The NDA leaders have reposed faith in Modi and chose him as the leader of the alliance, paving the way for him to become the PM for the third straight time.

After taking part in the National Democratic Alliance meeting in the national capital on Wednesday to discuss the formation of the new government, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu affirmed that the TDP is with NDA.

The meeting was attended by BJP president JP Nadda, BJP leaders Amit Shah, and Rajnath Singh, BJP’s allies including Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde, Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy, Janasena Party chief Pawan Kalyan, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan and Nationalist Congress Party leader Praful Patel among others.

The participation of Naidu and Nitish Kumar in the NDA meeting is a significant step as the support of their parties is crucial for the BJP to form the government. This time, the BJP fell 32 seats short of the majority mark of 272 and will need to rely on its allies to form a government.

As per the results announced by the Election Commission of India on Tuesday, the BJP won 240 seats and the Congress 99 seats. BJP had won 303 seats in the 2019 general elections and 282 seats in the 2014 general elections.

Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu dissolved the 17th Lok Sabha on Wednesday after the recommendation of the Union Cabinet.

“The President accepted the advice of the Cabinet on June 5, 2024, and signed the Order dissolving the 17th Lok Sabha in the exercise of the powers conferred upon her by Sub-Clause (2) of Article 85 of the Constitution,” a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

</excerpt>

The formation of the NDA government and the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to take place on June 8.

Despite the Lok Sabha election outcome, which did not give the BJP a clear majority, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained undeterred in his speech on Tuesday evening at the party headquarters.
